Reviews for Heworth Court Hotel

Review 1:Bed was a little uncomfortable and was 2 singles pushed together pillows a bit Garda for my liking.. Also room was a little cold

Review 2:Location was good.. Breakfast was really nice.. Overall service from staff friendly and welcoming

Review 3:The room was OK but badly let down by the bathroom, The shower head holder was broken so it held to be held, there was no shower curtain so the bathroom flooded and there was no heating.

Review 4:Nothing

Review 5:Great welcome, lovely clean room. Safe on site parking. Fantastic breakfast serviced by friendly staff. Good location, will definitely stay again, and will try the restaurant as the menu looked great. Would recommend.

Review 6:A little pricey for what it is, the paper over the toilet seat and condiments in the room where a nice touch, but the toilet flush didn't work and the toilet roll holder was broken, not massive issues, just not what you expect for over £100 a night, breakfast was ok, but would have been nice to have fresh mushrooms over tinned. On the whole pleasant to stay in but just felt it wasn't worth what we paid.

Review 7:Problems with shower in the bath. Prices in the bar/restaurant, a bit expensive. Missing itens for the snacks, not many options.

Review 8:cosy, near the historical centre, staff is pleasant and helpful

Review 9:Car park, as advertised, can be a bit of a squeeze for larger vehicles but adequate.

Review 10:Breakfast very good. We have had dinner in the past which was also very good. Left the car in the car park for all of our stay and walked into the city.

Review 11:From the moment I arrived to the moment I left all the staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable. I enjoyed the restaurant on the first night, and decided to eat there on two other nights - I was not disappointed. And the whisky bar with its huge selection of malt whiskies was a lovely bonus! It made my first visit to York so enjoyable, I will return and will definitely recommend the place to others.

Review 12:The hotel can be a bit noisy at night, due to the age of the building you hear many noises! The room and bedding is very hot. The kitchen door makes continuous noise as it swings back and forth

Review 13:The hotel is an tractive property sotuated near to the Minster. the staff are friendly and the breakfast room is well presented and food is good.

Review 14:only the mildew in the bathroom shower

Review 15:We have stayed here for a second time and we intend to come again next year Splendid staff, breakfast and food rooms are satisfactory Room 14

Review 16:Very good location, only about 15 minutes walk from city centre. Good facilities, comfortable, clean and with friendly staff. Definitely value for money accommodation.

Review 17:Car parking a bit tight, Wifi turned off at night! No meals on Sunday nights! Limited choice at breakfast....no prunes, or fresh fruit!! Etc....

Review 18:All the different Whiskies to try! Food in restaurant very good but limited although there was daily specials too!

Review 19:Rooms could be be cleaner. Wifi was poor and only in public areas. Breakfast was adequate but service was slow at times.

Review 20:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was on a good bus route to the city centre.

Review 21:Spacious well appointed room and shower room. Good breakfast included. The rear car park is a most useful feature and a good bus service passes the hotel every 10 minutes approx.

Review 22:Breakfast was a bit hit and miss on the first day. Both the orange juice a toast were overlooked.

Review 23:Great location. Liked the fact we could park the car and leave it and walk everywhere.

Review 24:I and other guests had to wait around 30 minutes from ordering breakfast to receiving it and then much of it was luke warm. Service wasn't the best i.e I had to ask for my toast and then when it was brought a few minutes later it was put on another table.

Review 25:It is not far from the City centre i.e. within walking distance.

Review 26:This is not so much didn't like but I think showers rather than baths and I personally found the menu for food & drink a bit pricey although I could be wrong.

Review 27:Excellent Hotel, location brilliant easy 10 minute walk to city centre. The rooms were well maintained beautiful grounds fabulous breakfasts for choice and the staff were very friendly and polite all in all well worth the stay :-).

Review 28:Bathroom as described previously. Didn't feel right leaving the toilet to have to then go into bathroom to wash your hands.

Review 29:Quiet peaceful residential location. Parked up car and didn't move it again.

Review 30:Room was shabby and very dated. The furniture was old and chipped. The blinds were broken. The carpet was dirty. The whole room needed refreshing and modernising. Lots of rules about only eating their own food all around the hotel.

Review 31:The location was excellent. Within walking distance to the centre of York. Also it had its own car park

Review 32:No food allowed in room. Very expensive hotel bar. Spiders on wall art Tad pricey

Review 33:Friendly staff Comfortable bed Lovely decor Good location Clean Good shower

Review 34:i was travelling with my sister - when booking it said the last room was an extra large twin room (my husband double checked my booking to make sure i was getting what i wanted) when i arrived i was in a small cramped double room that smelt of dirty drains! it is a bed and breakfast! i thought i was booking a hotel. to get what i thought i had already booked i would have had to pay a lot more I was not at all happy.

Review 35:breakfast staff were excellent

Review 36:Stayed in R14. Difficult to sleep as the paper thin walls felt we were sleeping with other quests, sorry but microwaved scrabbled eggs are unacceptable, old mismatched décor needs a massive makeover

Review 37:The location of the hotel to the city is ideal..

Review 38:Wifi was abysmal. Need another router in rear building. Felt it was a bit overpriced based on other accomodation in popular tourist locations. Taking funds off credit card two weeks before we arrived is totally unjustified.

Review 39:Easy walk to city. Nice outlook. Good car park.

Review 40:There was nothing not to like everything was spot on

Review 41:Very friendly welcoming, beautiful hote, very clean and tidy breakfast was great and the young waitress was very bubbly. Big thanks to Tom and his Sister for looking after us

Review 42:the room was very shabby & the bathroom was very dated & had a musty smell. room was very hot even with window open. got woken up by people in room above & the boiler was very noisy.my son & wife were in the courtyard area, there bathroom was very modern compared to ours. when they took the throw off the bed they realized that the quilt was far to big for the cover, leaving the bottom part unfastened with the quilt protruding?

Review 43:great breakfast

Review 44:There was no comfortable place to have a cigarette, the designated smoking area was out in the car park, which had no seating or cover from the wind and rain.

Review 45:The room was very clean and comfortable, plenty tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 46:We were woken up numerous times in the night by the sound of the occupants in the room next door going to the bathroom throughout the night with the noisy fan in their bathroom. we were in room 43 in the annex.

Review 47:lovely large room nicely dressed and laid out. Very clean, no complaints except the noise from next door.

Review 48:could of done with just a lamp and not the bed lights as I kept knocking them every time I rolled over

Review 49:The entire place was just what we asked for.. Imagine walking into your nans caravan and being greeted by nans musk.. It was beautiful just the sort of place me and my partner really enjoy, the staff are great and even put a birthday card in our room as it was my girlfriends birthday.

Review 50:Room was dated, needed refurbishment. Bath badly scraped and all the sealants needed replaced. Taps were hard to turn off and on, because the design, when hot they could not be turned, needed a towel to grip.

Review 51:The best thing of our stay were the staff, very friendly and good at their job.

Review 52:Room decor old fashioned and not to my taste. Cleanliness was an issue in the room, bathroom and toilet walls and door frames splashed, bed sheets had washed in stains.

Review 53:Staff friendly and attentive

Review 54:Room was cold on arrival but soon warmed up when we located the radiator control. There was a lot of traffic noise from outside as we were in a room located at the front of Guest house Annexe .It looked in need of some refurbishing.

Review 55:Good Breakfast. Plenty of Hot water Good size Bedroom

Review 56:Haphazzard service at breakfast, some orders took a long time to the point of had they been forgotten? Lots of busy staff but not a well oiled machine.

Review 57:Friendly and personable staff, good quality food.

Review 58:Front rooms (next to main road) very noisy, needs some modernisation furniture and decor stuck in the 70's.q

Review 59:Clean and tidy, staff very friendly and very helpful. Good breakfast.

Review 60:Only shower really. A bit hard to shower owing to position of soap and shampoo cadgets

Review 61:The breakfast was delicious and 2 young girls really lovely and couldn't do enough for us. I would hold on to them

Review 62:Bed was a little rickety and bedside tables were very low quality but the room was nice overall.

Review 63:Staff went out of their way to accept my very late arrival. Parking was secure and easy. Breakfast was perfect - thank you!

Review 64:There is no wifi outside public areas, we were happy about this as we were looking to get away from all that. But important to some people

Review 65:Great place, great room and lovely staff. If that's what you are looking get a room in main building. We absolutely loved our stay, staff were so friendly and helpful. Short walk to town, not a big deal right very straightforward route

Review 66:The only downsides about the stay were minor issues. The check in and check out times were a bit awkward and slightly impacted our stay. The timings for breakfast were also quite awkward, lasting only an hour and a half from 8am - 9:30am and being quite early if you like a lie in while on holiday! In terms of the room, it was comfortable but slightly dated. The only really big downside for us was the shower, which kept dropping in and out of scolding hot and freezing cold which was a bit of a pain!

Review 67:Heworth court was lovely - the building itself is really nice and although it looks onto a main road, it was very quiet after about 7pm so we had no problems with noise. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfast they served was good, especially for being included in the price of the room. The hotel itself is really central, and was only 10 minutes walk from the city centre which made getting back at night really easy. The hotel itself is quaint and very typical of York, although perhaps could do with a bit of brightening up. Overall, it was a great stay!

Review 68:our bedroom very outdated , inside window black with mold ,beds like sleeping on the floor , shower cubicle no good if you are a large person ( i,m only 10 stone ,5f,7inch ) ps no wifi service from bedroom

Review 69:staff very good , breakfast great , dinning area comfy ,walking distance to york town

Review 70:If I was going to be really picky I would say I prefer semi skimmed milk in the complimentary tea and coffee tray but that's all I can think of, and I'm sure if I'd asked for some they would have brought me some but we were too keen to head off exploring.

Review 71:Very good breakfast, we were able to park, the hotel is very clean and all of the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Overall a good experience for the price. You could stay a bit nearer the town if you're happy to pay for it, but the walk didn't bother us.

Review 72:Bed was broken on one side of bed and got my foot grazed on a piece of metal

Review 73:Good decent size clean room with working iron. Not far from centre of town.

Review 74:Check out was at 10 am which is quite early in comparison to most places

Review 75:Lovely place, 15 min walk to the city centre, quiet and nice bar. Staff very friendly.

Review 76:Location is not terrible but still a long walk from the town centre. Our room was in the separate building next to the entrance door, which was quite noisy. The room was freezing in the morning (for a problem with the central heating) and the maximum they could do was saying "sorry for that". Overall not worth the £100/night we paid!

Review 77:Car parking - 2 spaces were available but by inconsiderate parking by some guests was deprived of parking place. Problem solved though by receiving permit to park on street.

Review 78:People were friendly. Food was good.

Review 79:Checking out i was not ask if i enjoyed my stay.! Getting ready for the day, the shower area had mold around the base, shower head was useless i had to try and trap it between the soap and conditioner containers so it would shower me. Cleaning required, cobwebs over the head of the bed (ceiling) same in the bathroom. Told reception, reply ow sorry.!

Review 80:Location good. Breakfast good. Parking good. Staff where helpful.

Review 81:Decor in room a little tired, shower head could have been cleaner, stern notices about eating food in room.

Review 82:Staff very warm, welcoming and helpful, great breakfast, good location for town centre, 10 minute walk

Review 83:It would have been easier to have been allowed into the room at 12.00 instead of 14.00. Would also have been nice to have stayed a little longer than 10.00 on the day of departure. Lights in room are very bright.

Review 84:It was a great location as it only took 10 minutes to walk to York. The breakfast was excellant and very filling. Room was lovely and warm, quite cosy.

Review 85:the bathroom fans are linked to the lights, but run on for ten minutes after the lights off. A bit annoying in the night.

Review 86:we came up for York Panto - this place is ideal with only a 10min walk to the City Centre. Warm and friendly Hotel staff and setting, room was really comfy. Very clean!!! Breakfast is excellent - we enjoyed a full English - served in a nice traditional setting and service is quick and efficient.

Review 87:Poor electric shower .no shaving mirror above wash basin my husband had to turn round and walk to another wall to see himself shaving. Duvet only just fitted the bed which was two beds put together.hotel has not changed since we were there 15 years ago it needs updating.

Review 88:Friendly staff made us very welcome. Breakfast lovely on very hot plates.room was spacious.

Review 89:Quite a long walk from York centre, however, good bus service short distance away. Day room a little bland and not very inviting.

Review 90:Breakfast Room layout. Quality of service at breakfast. Bedroom clean & well set out. Friendly staff and atmosphere.

Review 91:Nothing really.

Review 92:Very friendly hotel, with lovely staff and owners. Excellent bar, easy walking distance of town centre, clean spacious room and an overall pleasant stay. Good parking too!

Review 93:Put in the annexe which is actually a house next door but one to the hotel. Room very dated and tired. Nothing matched. Noisy due to being on main road had to wear earplugs. Breakfast was adequate on first day but on second day we did not have breakfast as we had waited over 30 minutes for scrambled egg on toast and poached egg on toast. Think they forgot we were even there.

Review 94:Only 10 minutes walk from the centre of York.

Review 95:I would have preferred the Wi-Fi facility to be available in the annexe - not just the public rooms.

Review 96:The bedroom facilities were excellent, the staff could not have been more helpful and the bar and restaurant were very acceptable.

Review 97:I expected a hotel room but got got a very basic bedroom in a property next door but one. Dissapointed

Review 98:Very good and polite staff, good food, good location.

Review 99:Overall condition of the facility is fair. Bed was not very comfortable.

Review 100:Evening meal was quite good. Breakfast was very good. The staff was helpful.

Review 101:Nothing!

Review 102:The staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was lovely and I finished every bit of the meal on each of my 3 night stay. Good selection of whiskeys.

Review 103:Hotels style is a bit dated for us but recently we have tended to stay in more modern and boutique hotels. Compared to this the room was basic even though we went for the most expensive room. For the price though so central to York I doubt you'd find better.

Review 104:Location was good, about 20 mins walk in heels to the centre. Breakfast was gorgeous, really couldn't fault it. Room was very very warm and perfectly clean. Staff we very friendly especially the waiting staff at breakfast.

Review 105:The stay was not long enough.

Review 106:Arrival was good and friendly. Although we had an annexe room it was v/good.The breakfast was awesome. The stay was only one night and thankfully we chose this one.

Review 107:Room was adequate but would have preferred slightly more room.

Review 108:Food was delicious. Staff were very accommodating. Hotel convenient for york city centre.

Review 109:Stayed in room 2 toilet in a cupboard no washbasin had to go to the shower room in the other corner to wash ur hands. The bed was terrible sagged lumpy springs . Memory foam mattress wouldn't go amiss . There is a fire escape in the room states break glass nothing there to break the glass with.Regarding the breakfast it's all waitress served no buffet style pre cooked breakfast .

Review 110:Nice staff Nice bar The breakfast was nice well cooked.

Review 111:The internet was very spotty and poor. Felt it was a very strict place to stay. Would charge 10 pounds if you were late at checkout. The ambience was poor

Review 112:Location was great!

Review 113:hotel was good breakfast very nice and the staff we're pleasant only down side no lift if your not good with stairs and we we're leaving very early for Edinburgh and we're locked in car park for 45minutes till a member of staff came to work!UN manned reception and no way of communicating with them after 11pm if you leave early ask for the code as nobody available till 7am

Review 114:- Tired rooms and common areas desperately in need of refurbishment - Exceptionally small bedrooms with cheap fittings. A request not to bring food into the bedrooms because the smell might penetrate the curtains is farcical given that there are no curtains; merely cheap 1970s style vertical blinds - Weak shower flow with thermostat that oscillates between scalding and tepid - Hall carpet with traces of vomit that someone has tried, but failed, to clean - Inadequate parking with no on-street alternative

Review 115:I felt a little isolated being in the Annex 2 doors away.Lack of security as hotels ive stayed in have a night porter.I have lived in York for over 20 years ,my late husband worked at 3 hotels and he was a night porter.

Review 116:Staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was lovely well set out plenty to eat. Room service clean towel daily e.t.c.

Review 117:Didn't like the bedroom Very dated and old faded bed linen not a nice touch. Pillows terrible and quilt no life left in it. Only fit for the rubbish bin.

Review 118:Location. Staff pleasant. Nice breakfast.cleanliness good.

Review 119:Nothing Everything was great.

Review 120:Nice comfy beds. Great breakfast. Lovely patio area. Place was welcoming. I complained about being woken at 6.45 every morning by a guest switching on tv which was too loud. This occurred on two mornings. I told the lovely lady on reception who said she had spoken to the guest who said they were sorry but it still happenwd tge third morning so I told the receptionist who kindly offered to move us free of charge to a superior room which we agreed to. The staff moved our luggage to a nice room where we were not awoken abruptly with the tv. So hats off to the staff for dealing promptly with my complaint.

Review 121:Proximity of big road when sleeping in front room(s)

Review 122:Staff: helpful & friendly Comfortable nice english breakfast close to city center, rather close to university (30min walk)

Review 123:Evening meal quite expensive so ate out. Couldn't get a coffee in the evening unless they put a full pot on just for me as restaurant closed Mondays.

Review 124:Within walking distance of the city centre. Bus going into the city centre every 10 mins, and in opposite direction to a large shopping centre. Staff friendly and helpful Waitress service at breakfast

Review 125:Bathroom - rather tired! And the towels provided were too small and a bit worn.Time to replace them, we thought. The shower was really good though!

Review 126:The outside patio area - flowery and private - perfect for a quiet drink. The bar - cosy! The staff - very helpful and pleasant.

Review 127:The rooms (we used 4 & 5) had something lacking - maybe its the small toilet disguised as a cupboard, the separate shower & wash basin in another cupboard. Our rooms were very warm! But opening windows in room 4 at the front brought traffic noise and room 5 at the back had kitchen smells. The breakfast was all served to you - no buffet style for cereals, juice, fruit etc. very quaint & old fashioned.

Review 128:Car Park in York Friendly staff

Review 129:The fact that I missed dinner at the Restaurant

Review 130:Came to the hotel for a quick trip to York, although the decor is dated and the facilities basic, they keep the place clean and comfortable and the staff and the owners are really lovely and helpful.Very pleasant experience and lovely location, will return and recommend without hesitation

Review 131:In room number 2 the WC was in a cupboard no room in it at all, your face was almost against the wall sitting down. No window and the floor crunched at every step. Very annoying at night .

Review 132:The court yard. Breakfast/ dinner Size of room and furniture, plenty of storage space. Free car parking. helpful staff.

Review 133:I can't really complain about anything in the hotel - it suited our needs perfectly.

Review 134:The hotel is approximately a 10-15 minute walk to the town centre which was perfect for us. Having arrived we found the hotel to be well maintained and clean. Our room was in the courtyard (again well maintained and decorated) and was clean, spacious and very comfortable. The staff were courteous and responded to our needs.

Review 135:The warm, friendly staff and and nice atmosphere throughout the hotel. The standard of food at breakfast and dinner was very good. I would have no hestitation in returning to the Heworth Court.

Review 136:Lot of stairs (we were top floor). We were in the annex building whichmeant going next door for breakfast. Annex a wee bit tired looking, butstill perfectly clean and good for the price.

Review 137:Friendly people. Close to York (easy 15min walk to the centre). Freeparking. Good value for money. Decent enough pub next door for pub grub.

Review 138:Annex top floor . Bed hard and uncom for table .room needed updating . Electric shower not great . Very noisy from 6 am with continual banging doors and loud t v .

Review 139:Lovely bar area ,dining room ,lounge area and courtyard . Great location .staff extremely helpful

Review 140:Put in a separate building from main building Decor was shabby and mismatched Furniture was ramshackle - could not open chest of drawers Bed was awful

Review 141:Excellent helpful service from staff Only 10 min walk from centre
