Reviews for Akali Hotel

Review 1:We were given a 'quiet' room, facing away from the street, but a dog in a neighbouring property barked intermittently from dawn to dusk, and at the weekend muzak from the hotel's own speakers in the outdoor bar was intrusive if you sat on the balcony. The air con at night was noisy (room 102), and the furnishings are a bit old-fashioned.

Review 2:The breakfast is very good and the breakfast staff are very helpful.

Review 3:Booked a superior double, given a twin. Had to accept a standard to get a double. Air conditioning not very effective.

Review 4:Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good if you were punctual. Nice atmosphere generally. Old town very pretty. Good location for this end of Create. Short walk to town.

Review 5:It was odd to find that the housekeeping left a vaccuum and cleaning equipment for a whole afternoon and morning outside our room in the passage. The door of the bathroom by the restaurant got stuck with me in it. I was stuck in a small, basement-style, windowless toilet cubicle for over 30 minutes. Not a cool experience at all. Chania, overall, has a bit of a party vibe to it and I found Rethymno to be more family oriented.

Review 6:The best breakfast we had in Greece - a mix of traditional Greek, Chania dishes and international and European dishes. Very close proximity to the local, Chania beach which is organised with loungers for rent and restaurants. Short walking distance to Chania Old Town and it is located in the CBD. Affordable and quick laundry service. Good value for money.

Review 7:My only recommendation would be to provide conditioner in the bathrooms.

Review 8:Location was great as it only took about 10-15mins to walk into old town Chania and there were local buses outside the hotel. Great selection of food from the buffet breakfast. Staff were always helpful. We had an interconnecting room that was great as there were two bathrooms! The rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and the pool was a bonus. Wi-fi always worked. I would stay here again!

Review 9:Wifi is slow & TV has only Greek channels. Lack of TV does however help to unwind & switch off!

Review 10:Staff are so friendly & will help with anything they can. The receptionists, bar staff & restaurant all provide great service with a smile. Rooms are comfortable but not lavish. Great advice on sight seeing, medical care & car hire. Packed lunch provided free of charge for trip to the Samaria Gorge.

Review 11:it is a bit shame that such a nice hotel is located in not nice area though it is near the old town.

Review 12:the extremely nice atmosphere in the hotel. The staff every friendly and helpful in any department, breakfast, concierge, housekeeper!! great!! thank you

Review 13:Toilet bin was very very small (we had baby dipers). There is a security flaw. When u ask for a key they just give it to you. I don't think they remember everyone so an id check must take place.

Review 14:Breakfast with the accompanied staff.

Review 15:Didn't like the bed . Was too uncomfortable i just couldn't sleep in the night and the pictures of the bedroom had nothing to do with the pictures on the Internet

Review 16:The stuff was very polite and very welcome .. The position of the hotel is perfect specially for those who wish to walk to the port

Review 17:Neighbourhood a bit run down, footpaths in poor condition. I caught my foot in a hole on the path, fell and sprained my knee towards the end of the week, interfering with the last 2 days of my holiday and my journey home, and of course my time at home post-holiday. Not the hotel's fault, of course, and they were extremely helpful and concerned. Sorted me out with a local private clinic who took good care of me and staff spoke English.

Review 18:Staff were great, helpful and friendly. Liked the fact that the hotel had a pool while most other city hotels didn't - it was important to us. Within 10 minutes walking distance from Nea Chora Beach and old town centre.

Review 19:The hotel is 5-10 minutes away from the ktel long distance bus station. We took the 8:30am bus to Samaria Gorge. On the way back, the bus drovepast the hotel so we just hopped off in front of Akali. That's greatas we were really tired after a long day's hike. The staff at Akaliare very friendly and always ready to help. Everything is fine at thehotel. But it is the staff that makes the hotel stand out among allothers we stayed during our two weeks in Greece. Special thanks to Anitaand Nikolaos. Crete is a lovely place!

Review 20:There was only one thing I didn't like which was the pressure in the shower I do think there showers could do with a bit more pressure other I liked everything

Review 21:I liked that the rooms where spacious ,comfortable ,quite, beds of a high quality and over all great place

Review 22:My sister and I paid extra for the 'superior' room and apparently I had the best. The rooms were ok, but my plug would not stay in the sink. The engineer came to have a look at it but said it could not be fixed. Also when you turned the tap on, the water kept coming out over the top of the sink so I was always getting soaked!! I reported the problems but they were not fixed and I ended up having to buy a plug myself. We booked this hotel because it had a pool, however the photographs were very cleverly done so that everywhere outside looked better than it actually was. The wifi was intermittent. The air conditioning was not efficient.

Review 23:All the staff were excellent and deserve a rating of 10 out of 10!!! I will probably return to this hotel as it is the only one in Chania town with a pool.

Review 24:Rooms are in reality older than in the pictures. However, all is clean and the beds are comfortable.

Review 25:Extremely helpful staff - all three shifts. May be the most helpful and pleasant people we experienced ever. The rooms were older than what we expected from the pictures and it was the only negative thing about the hotel. However, when we complained at the reception, we were upgraded to a bigger and brighter room. Overall, I think it would be a general problem for Crete, as the hotels are mainly old in general. Location was good - 5 minutes from bus station and 7-8 minutes from the city center. Breakfasts are ok.

Review 26:The hotel is in a fairly indistinct area of small shops (non-touristy) and 5-10 minutes walk from the old town. Not a problem unless you are expecting some atmosphere. Bedrooms and furnishings are a bit old.

Review 27:Helpful staff at reception and breakfast. A number of parking spaces right outside. Only a few minutes walk from the waterfront.

Review 28:nothing at all...

Review 29:From small things like cup of tea with local herbs, gorgeouse breakfast (Cretan Dakos is the Best!) to very polite stuff, always with smile and ready for service...Thank you for upgrating our room to superior, it was very plesant surprise...and especialy thanks to Manager of Hotel Mrs.Xirouhaki to care that we had during of our stay, presents waiting us at the table in the room. Bravo !!! very good location in the midle of the town, warm room and clean sheets.WiFi working everywhere-anytime!

Review 30:We had a great stay.Location of the hotel was just perfect just few steps away from city center , old town and the beach .Very helpful and kind staff helped us and advice us where to go where to eat and what was interesting to do and visit in this beautiful town . Very clean and well decorated hotel with great breakfast buffet to start your day . 100% value for money & fully recommended .

Review 31:we had the room 320 and the aircondition made a lot of noice, not so clean bathroom..

Review 32:variety in breakfast, good location close to center and quiet, helpful staff

Review 33:Allocated room with connecting door so first had had cigarette smoke and noise and third night noise - room 202 so suggest you make sure you ask for one with no interconnecting door !

Review 34:Staff were excellent and location was ok convenient to beach and old town but not a great area and next to busy road

Review 35:We had high quality stay...a big congratulation to Akali hotel staff...very friendly and professional at the same time...We are definitely coming back..highly recommended

Review 36:Only a short walk into the old town/port area but onsite parking suited us and the staff were great. Very clean and comfy so would stay here again.

Review 37:Everything was quality about the hotel apart from its soundings but your only need to 7mins and your in Chania old town which is beautiful... The pool area is nice too

Review 38:Wifi doesn't really work at all up in the rooms. Noisy if the room is on the street side, you can hear everything also from the hallway. old building, wouldn't be 4 star in Helsinki but this is of course a whole different place.

Review 39:Great staff and service, convenient location, fast wifi in the lobby, nice breakfast with many options, good housekeeping and cleaning service.

Review 40:Again location is good but overall hotel is dated and a bit sad looking.

Review 41:Lovely staff who couldn't do enough for you however hotel is okay but looks a bit tired and dated. Location is good but overlooks some scruffy sights and buildings which I appreciate isn't the hotel's fault, but small improvements could easily be done.

Review 42:Had to wait 2 days before airco was fixed. Rooms are very noisy, swimming pool is very small, especially where the sunbeds are, you can not be next to each other, like a train ....

Review 43:Breakfast is very good

Review 44:Free wifi, but no access in the room - only limited access in the lobby.

Review 45:Nice hotel, quite close to city center and to bus station (both +/- 10min walk) . Rooms are comfortable and clean. Courtyard garden and pool are small, but are a lovely place to relax. Good breakfast.

Review 46:The car parking is not really big, but is was there on August 15th...!

Review 47:Very good position, the harbor is just 10 minutes walk. Very kind staff and clean rooms. Breakfast is great, with international food and local products.

Review 48:The hotel is about 10 minutes walk from Old Town if Chania. The staff is very very friendly, polite and helpful. The room was a nice size and always clean. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we have ever had, serving both continental as well as local Cretan traditional produce. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family without hesitation.

Review 49:Note that this hotel maybe was a 4 star hotel in the 80ties. I had the economy room which was the only availible and it desparatly needs renovation. The bathrooms are old and outdated, the bedt are not comfortable and the aircondition is old and noisy with no temperatur controll (just hot and cold). I have been to 3 star hotels in other parts of the world with better standard. Note that even if it is free wifi, this is unstable and is not suitable for other work than emails without attachements.

Review 50:I liked that the was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was ok compared with what I have experiences other places, but not anything more than that. Relativ good size of the room and balcony.

Review 51:Wi-Fi is ok but wish to be at a even better speed. The taxi between airport to hotel can be covered at 17 euro not 23 euro. I can recommend a very nice taxi driver to book, Geogebabakas, tel: 6973740085.

Review 52:The Staff at the hotel are the best! The location is also a plus as it is near to market, a relative good beach, and long distance buss station. We like the most is the nice service to the breakfast buffet, so friendly and polite.

Review 53:The location with it being on a very busy main road and the pool area was very small.

Review 54:All the staff especially reception staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.

Review 55:Room allocated was not found to be of the same standard (age, quality) as the one selected from the Booking.com site. In addition, the aircondition was not working on the first night. We had a booking for 5 nights and the room issue was resolved on day 3.

Review 56:Great location

Review 57:A real 4 star hotel. Everything was perfect starting from breakfast to the pool, to the staff. We want to thank in particular mr. Nikos that accomplished our request about a pool view room, (not so easy in very high season with hotel full of guests) he also gave us very useful hints for our better staying.

Review 58:-500m-walk from the hotel to the old town is not a pleasant one: heavy traffic, unattractive neighbourhood -view from the room on a ruin of a building -bathrooms and public areas needs refurbishment -wifi connection was not always reliable

Review 59:-friendly and helpful staff -rich breakfast buffet -renovated, spacious rooms -good sound isolation -quiet neibourhood, off the busy touristic center

Review 60:The breakfast is fantastic, try all the Greek and Cretan produce you can even make your own Greek coffee in a traditional way. The pool was lovely and the garden was a great place to spend some time after visiting the city. We really like the staff as well very friendly and kind. There are some paintings on each floor by Greek artists worth a look at as well.

Review 61:A little dated with some furniture pieces. Wifi slow in the bedroom

Review 62:Staff very helpful. Very clean. Breakfast good. Pool good. Location very good to bus terminal and to old port.

Review 63:This hotel is about a 10 minute walk from Old Town. The staff is very friendly, polite and helpful. The room was a nice size and very clean. The free breakfast buffet is one of the best we have ever had. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends and family without hesitation.

Review 100:Everything was perfect.

Review 101:wi-fi could be stronger

Review 102:Lovely & helpful reception. Very good breakfast.

Review 103:quality of sleep was terrible. free wifi but was extremely slow.

Review 104:breakfast location staff was extremely good

Review 105:Location was close to the Harbour. Breakfast was good, staff was exceptional

Review 106:The location. We wanted for a short stay to be in the city center and Alkali was perfect for that.

Review 107:Very old and in bad condition. Hotel needs renovation. Pool area not very fine and clean.

Review 108:Good location and friendly staff.

Review 109:Only a 10min walk to the main shopping strip. Location is good. Bus terminal about a 10min walk.

Review 110:Excellent Staff, Good Location

Review 111:The staff was excellent. Mr nikos and the other girls to reception was very helpfull

Review 112:Lovely staff, really good location and clean rooms :)

Review 113:My stay at the Akali Hotel is the first time that washcloths were not available for bathing.

Review 114:Walking distance to a beach - 5 to 10 minutes - was one of my main reasons for booking with the Akali. The front desk, cleaning and dining/bar staff were receptive to my requests and provided excellent recommendations for nearby dining and local attractions.

Review 115:Poor air conditioning in our room and on very noisy street making leaving window open at night impossible. We had problems with hot water also. Rooms required a closer maintenance review. Also, hotel had no gym facility.

Review 116:Great staff, great restaurant for breakfast, super location and nice room layout.

Review 117:The hotel definitely needs renovation. Hallway carpeting, wardrobes, safeboxes and bathrooms especially are dated. Bathrooms are not very clean looking due to age. Also doors going on to hall are paperthin, so everything that is being said outside of your room is heard.

Review 118:The buffet breakfast is very good. There is a wide selection of foods. Overall the staff were very friendly. Location is excellent. Just a short walk to the town centre and a short ride by car to the high way if you need to get out of Chania.

Review 119:Akali hotel was definitely a high-end hotel back in the 80s as it is obvious by the decoration and the quality of the materials used everywhere. However, it requires a generous re-fit as the rooms look old now(furniture, bathroom) although the furniture/floor/bathroom are built with high quality materials Another negative thing is noise. Although the walls have a good noise isolation this is not the case for the door. We could hear clearly people brushing their teeth from the opposite room and every single noise coming from the corridor. Another issue is the view from the rooms. The front rooms look at a busy main street and the back rooms although they have a view of the pool area, the rest of the view is some unfinished/derelict buildings. The hotel is at the city centre, not in the old part of the town but at a walking distance from it. In terms of value for money it is leaning towards to be a slightly expensive hotel(not much though)

Review 120:Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast including Cretan traditional breakfast, very clean rooms, good mattress/pillows, good central location(with some negatives due to this), decent room size, parking in front of the hotel(though it can easily become full)
