Reviews for Langstone Cliff Hotel

Review 1:everything was great

Review 2:The spacious room, very friendly staff, good choice of breakfast, bar snacks were excellent, the hotel décor was very good and comfortable seating in bar and TV lounge, lovely views from our room over the sea, all in all an enjoyable stay.

Review 3:Only flaw was slow service for one evening meal, but to be fair, they were at full stretch dealing with a large, posh party in a separate room. They did apologize and gave us complimentary tea & coffee after the meal, so all is forgiven.

Review 4:Could see bay from room, short stroll to sea-front, indoor & outdoor swimming pools, tennis court, table tennis, snooker table, ladies' pamper facilities - something for all age groups. Good sized family room with balcony, plenty of towels/hospitality tray. Food good, bar meals or restaurant, decent breakfast. Pleasant, helpful staff - hard to fault it.

Review 5:Some rooms in the hotel are quite noisy at night , eg music and people being very loud , especially if you go to bed earlier , we always request a quiet part of the hotel but didn't get the choice this time .

Review 6:I always like every aspect of the hotel and the services provided .

Review 7:nothing to dislike

Review 8:the location the freindly helpfull staff the prices of food and drinks were not any more expensive than local pubs and resturants especially welcomeing dogs

Review 9:Nothing negative to report other than the main dining room was a bit sterile looking.

Review 10:Location was excellent for the nearby railway station, walks, and views.

Review 11:Unfortunately dinner in the restaurant was very disappointing. There was a function on elsewhere and we were very much the also-rans, almost alone in a vast empty room. We ordered four duck legs but only two were available - glad to say I opted for the fish instead as the duck was in a disgusting sauce, tasted like sweetened orange juice. Our starters were plonked on the table about 2 minutes after ordering them, before we'd been able to even order drinks. Staff were friendly but totally inept. And even when I mentioned it, we didn't get the promised free newspaper.

Review 12:The hotel was fine, convenient for a family group including 5 year-old twins and a 95 year-old. Taking the dog was a real bonus.

Review 13:Fantastic location. Excellent facilities. Excellent service. Staff here were brilliant. Very dog friendly. Every morning they had set us up a breakfast table in the lounge outside the restaurant. So that our dog Toby could stay with us. Room was perfect. Indoor pool superb. Swam every morning. To find a hotel that is so welcoming for dogs and has such a nice indoor pool is unusual. Looks a perfect place for families with children too. I could go on and on here so I will end by saying I was surprised only 3 star hotel. It has 4 /5 star facilities and service

Review 14:location was poor railway line between hotel and hotel buffet service means that even if you asked for table service the meals tend to be overcooked. most people in hotel were part of organised groups who seemed to pay considerably less

Review 15:clean room well located in hotel particularly with dog

Review 16:Nothing.

Review 17:As pet owners, it is not easy to find such excellent facilities, but having spent a week's holiday there previously we knew that we would enjoy.

Review 18:Charging for light to play snooker seemed unnecessary

Review 19:Friendly staff, good food, free newspaper, indoor swimming pool (towel provided). extensive grounds, very pleasant indoor areas (lounge, drawing room)

Review 20:Hotel was a bit dated. Could do with a bit of a refurb. Made a bit modern. But they may take away the charm of the hotel.

Review 21:LOCATION. STAFF. CLEAN. PLENTY TO DO. ALL GREAT.

Review 22:The slow toaster at breakfast time!!!

Review 23:Relaxed atmosphere, child friendly, friendly staff, good facilities, great entertainment for children, plenty of parking, clean comfortable room and bathroom.

Review 24:Food not great, lots of items on the menu not available and took too long to be delivered

Review 25:The view of the ocean, the grounds, evening child entertainment, facilities (we used the table tennis, tennis and swimming pools frequently), staff

Review 26:Bar meal service took over hour and half to get our food pool diss appointing indoor one was tired outdoor one was very cold

Review 27:Location breakfast quality of ingredients the gardens relaxing

Review 28:£3 for a pint glass of milk!! Need I say more!! Slow wifi.

Review 29:Very friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room and beautiful surroundings inside and out.

Review 30:Nothing

Review 31:We loved the location - the seaview was lovely, the hotel was very accommodating especially for families, loved the facilities, pool, parks, table tennis, soft play, tennis court. Our family room was fantastic- 2 rooms!

Review 32:Our room was very hot, air conditioning was noisy so we opened the window to find a noisy boiler outside our window, so a different room another time please.

Review 33:Very friendly, dealt with any problems fairly. Great indoor pool lots for the children to do, it felt like a safe happy environment for them so we could relax

Review 34:food was cold when brought out to the garden area. Menu choice for the bar food seemed to be limited and the food didn't taste that good

Review 35:Location and short walk to beach and train station

Review 36:Absolutely comfortable & relaxed hotel, already booked for next Easter, will recommend to friends & family. The facilities were excellent & food & all the staff could not do enough for you, really friendly. Thankyou for an amazing break X

Review 37:We cannot fault our experience here we had the best time thank you

Review 38:What a wonderful hotel, lots to do for children which is a godsend! Close to a beautiful beach perfect

Review 39:Poor facilities and old fashioned decoration. Our room was very dark, without view and a tiny window. Also the fire alarmm went off twice in the middle of the night. Isolated location without nice view and not oleasy approach to the sea.

Review 40:Disappointing evening meal and the tables were set out far too close together for comfort. Why, when there was enough space to give everyone a bit more room?

Review 41:Good location and really good facilities for families with small children. Good breakfast in a very pleasant part of the dining room

Review 42:Having to leave the bed behind

Review 43:the beds are so comfortable, room cleaned and towels changed everyday. Food is fab, entertainment for children every night. Great location. Highly recommended, would definitely return.

Review 44:Friendly helpful staff and good food. Short walk to beach. Away from the road. Looks a bit like a 60s holiday chalet park, but interior of hotel is nice and traditional and has a homely feel. Indoor pool smallish but facilities good.

Review 45:Not enough staff on, they worked hard but struggled to cope and forgot things as they were so busy. Ordered breakfast and had finished but they still had not brought any tea or coffee.

Review 46:Great location some very nice staff who were very helpful, good for kids too close to the beach.

Review 47:Have visited this hotel over the past 30 years and always receive good food, friendly staff and excellent facilities. We feel at home as soon as we pull up in the car park

Review 48:No phone signal & wifi was poor so you are really out of touch with the rest of the world

Review 49:The hotel is in a lovely setting with great views, breakfast was great

Review 50:We were slightly disappointed with the set evening meals which we had on two occasions and found the bar meals better value. We found a pub just a 5 minute walk from the hotel which served very good meals.

Review 51:Excellent breakfasts. Attentive staff. We stayed with our two daughters and families and the hotel facilities offered for children were very good. A short stroll to the attractions of Dawlish Warren with its beach, shops, pubs and fairground rides.

Review 52:Unfortunately the comfort of the room was poor as each time someone flushed the toilet there would be a terrible noise in the pipes and also the wooden floor tiles were squeaky and every time I would be woken up. The wifi signal not strong enough, I had to go outside the room to get a connection as inside the room my laptop and phone would not pick it up.

Review 53:took us a while to check in, long line at the desk but this is a minor issue.

Review 54:Comfy bed very clean room you can see the sea from the hotel breakfast was buffet style staff were helpful location was perfect for us

Review 55:Evening meal menu lacking so ate in the town which has a good choice of pubs and inns to eat at

Review 56:Location just a short scenic walk to the coast, and the town, most dog friendly hotel we have ever stayed at makes you feel comfortable having your pets there. Excellent food for breakfast lunch and snacks.

Review 57:Most mornings breakfast nearly eaten before tea and coffee orders taken sometimes having to find someone this is not a moan or complaint but it did take edge off lovely breakfast

Review 58:Location and comfort and relaxation

Review 59:We loved all the facilities available, children were never bored. The location is great for walking distance to the sea and funpark and good location as a driving base too. Staff friendly and welcoming.

Review 60:The food, breakfast was not that good, over grilled bacon, runny scrambled eggs. Evening meal veg brown to long under heated lamps.

Review 61:Lovely hotel location, great room and friendly staff

Review 62:Everything. Clean, Friendly, Super Food with friendly staff whose only aim was to please. A diamond hotel and one we will be visiting on a regular basis. Its disabled facilities lacked nothing.

Review 63:On 2/3 occasions the wait between courses was longer than we would have liked. Suggest more waiting staff at busy times.

Review 64:Comfortable room, friendly staff. good food. nice indoor pool and well kept outside area. .Easy access to coastal walks.

Review 65:I have no complaints ,the only improvement personally could have been a room with a sea view and nothing more ,

Review 66:The situation is excellent ,a very good hotel ,

Review 67:We thought all the staff was great at making us feel like we were staying at their own house rather than a hotel nothing was to much trouble for them the breakfast was a good choice we did not eat in the restaurant in the evening as we were visiting family but the lunch we had was lovely we both said on our way home that we would love to go back soon

Review 68:Some areas of the room could have been cleaned with more attention to detail (small bugs on the windowsill, dirty net curtains, smears on the windows etc).

Review 69:This hotel is in a beautiful location, being close to the beach and with a lovely sea view. The room was generally clean and the hotel itself has enough facilities to occupy children of all ages (indoor soft play, outdoor climbing frames, swimming pool etc) and their parents. We visited for our anniversary with our 21 month old in tow and really appreciated the extra effort shown by the staff in order to make things easier, such as ensuring a highchair and a plastic bowl, plate and cutlery were on the table in advance. There is also an opportunity for children to eat earlier than the usual restaurant times and from their own menu. Overall, this was the best family focused hotel we have visited and we will definitely come back for longer.

Review 70:The creepy wooden floor disturbing the other partners sleep 'room 6' The calculation of our bill was not correct on arrival, morning staff rectified it 1st night, No wine list or bread offerd at supper 'we had guests joining us' and insufficient menus given not quite the service expected 2nd nite service was slightly better

Review 71:Very hard bed, creaky floors. Slightly chaotic breakfast after a false fire alarm

Review 72:Lovely place, very friendly staff. Our granddaughter and family joined us for breakfast on her birthday and they had a beautiful card for her. Much appreciated

Review 73:A little downside, the room smelt a little of what we call an old persons room. It didn't put us off though.

Review 74:The food was really good, everyone was friendly, the location was perfect for us. Our room was spacious and very clean.

Review 75:Water containers in the restaurant gave the water a metallic taste. Wine corks and screw caps should be removed at the table not in the kitchen.

Review 76:Cream Tea and staff were excellent, dinner was good value..

Review 77:Outside decor & finish to the looks of the actual building!

Review 78:First look outside ?, thinks a bit drab?but inside very clean comforting areas , friendly staff, good amenities , good all round hotel !, great location !, best viewed at sunset across the sea outside ur windows!

Review 79:The smell of the room I was also on the ground floor and as a single female did not feel I could open the windows during the night to provide fresh air or help reduce the musty smell

Review 80:Hotel setting and faclities

Review 81:We ordered a meal late Sunday night which was awful, we would of preferred to have been told the chef had gone home, consequently did not eat there for the remainder of our stat

Review 82:Very laid back about our 2dogs. Staff cleaned the room daily! Essential with our 2. Train station was 5 mins away to access the coastal towns and a short walk to Dawlish! Great all around.

Review 83:The hotel had very squeaky floor boards, tried not to get up in the middle of night so didn`t disturb other half.

Review 84:The location, rooms and food were excellent. The staff were very helpful and the service was very good. All in all excellent value for money!

Review 85:When I checked out the receptionist took a phone call and carried on with this whilst just handing me my receipt. No smile, no eye contact, no goodbye. Only a tiny aspect but it would have been nice to have had a proper parting smile and it would have made a lovely stay a brilliant stay.

Review 86:Loved the amount of space available for guest use. Lovely large lounges and a small kids softplay! Lovely large room with lots of space for playing. Ideal location, short bike ride or scoot from huge beach. Amazing walks nearby and plenty of activities in local towns for kids if they get bored of sand. Friendly staff. Definately will go back.

Review 87:have stayed here a few times over a 8 year period to visit local friends, staff are always very friendly and helpful and the hotel always looks fresh and clean.

Review 88:The pool was a bit cold. Apart from that, nothing.

Review 89:Relaxed atmosphere. Very pet friendly. Lovely lounges to sit about in so you aren't trapped in your own room. Great walks, sea view. The New Year entertainment.

Review 90:Not a lot!

Review 91:As usual, the staff are friendly, helpful and unfailingly professional Food was good, room very good and the bed comfortable Bar meal was good, and the staff remembered my requests for a paper and a wake up call Excellent value and high standards

Review 92:On quieter weeks (we stayed in November) we would suggest that the breakfast is cooked to order as some of the food was not very hot. When we stayed previously in June this was not a problem

Review 93:The rooms are comfortable and the hotel atmosphere very relaxing. Enjoyed the swimming pool and the location is lovely.

Review 94:I only have one gripe and that is the pillows and quilts they are not comfortable. I do not know what could be done to rectify this.

Review 95:I love the Langston cliff. The staff are so friendly, helpful and cannot do enough to make your stay trouble free and enjoyable. Dawlish is very special to me and I am so happy that I have somewhere really comfortable to stay. I first visited The Langston Cliff in the seventies many times but not as a guest just socially and enjoyed it then.

Review 96:The wine waiter did not even ask if we required wine as was fussing over another patron. We were half-way through our meal before we managed to order anything. When the waitress took our first course dishes away she took our cutlery and did not replace it, so we had to use fish knife for main meal as waitress not readily in sight to request replacement and we were hungry.

Review 97:The food was good and great value for money. Room was good, shower great

Review 98:The bathroom, cramped and claustrophobic, on our first visit we had quite a large bathroom, (excessively so maybe), perhaps if the bath was removed and a shower cubicle put in it would feel less so - just an observation.

Review 99:Our recent visit was our second and we will certainly stay there again. Stunning location. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Excellent value for money.

Review 100:Room 27 is directly over the bar and if guests are having a good time late at night into the early morning - you don't. Was kept awake two nights running.

Review 101:The hotel is lovely and once I told Reception about the problem with my room they immediately moved me. A great place to stay as long as it's not room 27.

Review 102:I booked 'a small double room' and it certainly was small. Tables for breakfast were assigned in advance, even though the hotel did not seem busy, so I was a long way from the buffet.

Review 103:Dining room is a bit sterile Location of hotel is good but the coast line is not very attractive.

Review 104:Friendly staff Comfortable lounges Pleasant swimming pool Wifi available in all rooms

Review 105:Saturday Disco in dining room while trying to have a quiet dinner and bottle of wine at the start of our holiday. Not a good first impression.

Review 106:Room 61 near lift for disabled wife.

Review 107:hotel stated entertainment would be provided and it was the main reason for my booking - but there wasn't any at all!

Review 108:everything was lovely and luxurious, great setting, good service and food above average.

Review 109:Not a lively place by any means, quite old-fashioned in many ways, probably more suited to the 'older' person.

Review 110:Lovely view, wonderful pub round the corner, The Mount Pleasant, great food and atmosphere.

Review 111:Tv reception in bedroom was hit and miss. Pool was a bit small and crowded.

Review 112:The hotel is ideal for families with young children. Clean and comfortable. Great playroom. Staff were helpful and pleasant. Good breakfast. Nice grounds. Plenty of parking. We had a ground floor room, so no struggling with luggage on stairs.

Review 113:if had moan about anything? it just be the pool closing early. but can see why is.

Review 114:All of it was very relaxing Felt at home there. Great staff. Thanks for a pleasant stay and will visit again.

Review 115:Having to come home.

Review 116:We enjoyed a lovely relaxing Monday - Friday break. All the staff were smiley, friendly & helpful. Room was a excellent family room very clean and comfortable. Our 6 year old grandson loved the children's entertainment every night. There was plenty of comfy chairs to relax in the evening to either read or watch TV. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Our grandson loved being able to go for a swim In the indoor pool, when it was a bit chilly for the outdoor pool.

Review 117:Room was a little warm as no air con but a fan was provided that helped. Bed a little small compared to what we are used to.

Review 118:Very relaxing with brilliant views and friendly staff - nothing was too much trouble and always very clean. The gardens were beautiful.

Review 119:The bar is very limited and dinner in the restaurant was poor value for money especially given the options elsewhere in the Dawlish area.

Review 120:The room and general facilities were good and clean. Breakfast provided a wide selection of good quality options. The staff were pleasant too.

Review 121:Could do with a lick of paint , more so outside , a couple of areas need a little touch up . Don't let these things go !! Would be a great shame !

Review 122:Quiet , clean, good for kids and adults ,

Review 123:all good. I guess you might think that some of the food is rather flat.

Review 124:hotel staff were very nice, their attention to the needs of a couple with a young child were excellent; I was particularly impressed by the way in which they organised high-chairs for the little-uns so well. We felt so looked after, especially as they provided a baby monitor for our room which alerts reception when your baby wakes up, so you can otherwise enjoy a 'date' night.

Review 125:We booked a family suite against high additional charges. The suite was too hot and a constant noise of an air handling unit was not pleasant.

Review 126:Location. Indoor swimming pool.

Review 127:No dvd player in room as stated on booking.com

Review 128:Relaxed family atmosphere. Clean Friendly staff Meals are excellent value for money and lovely home cooked style.

Review 129:Family rooms noisy at night- most nights disturbed by other families screaming babies at some point. 2 of the bar staff were a bit grumpy- 1 young woman behind the bar was so unwelcoming and unfriendly it was almost painful just to order a simple drink from her

Review 130:A really friendly and relaxed family run hotel. Lovely grounds with views We met families who had been coming for their summer holiday there for up to 17 years running which says it all

Review 131:Room was cleaned very well but smelt musty throughout the stay. Front of hotel (lettering above front door) and the rooms probably need a bit of updating. Outdoor pool patio could use jet washing. Not offered any help with luggage when checked in, and they had me down as Mrs instead of Mr - but these are all really very minor gripes! It's a great place to stay....

Review 132:Location is just perfect, staff helpful and mostly very friendly, good variety of decent quality food and a nice indoor pool. Kids ents most nights (magic/disco). Would heartily recommend to others. A lovely place to have a relaxing holiday for folk of all ages.

Review 133:Alovely hotel with nice staff but rather a lot of children running wild after 9.00pm. It would be nice to be able to have a quiet drink in the garden later in the evening. Perhaps the hotel should consider a no ball games after 9.00pm policy, after all guests without children pay the same prices as those with.

Review 134:Rooms very hot, no air con n no fans available on first night! Had to make own toast at breakfast which we did not like as meant standing around waiting to cook instead of sitting enjoying breakfast! Quite expensive compared to other hotels with similar facilities.

Review 135:Staff very friendly, nice atmosphere and very relaxing,

Review 136:Our room was roasting and the air con was ineffective. If we had not brought along our own powerful fan it would have been unbearable at night in our room. I realise the weather we had during our stay was unprecedented and am sure this is not usually a problem!

Review 137:Loved the relaxed informal atmosphere and fantastic outdoor facilities for kids.
