Reviews for The Commercial
Review 1:Extremely foul language used by locals in the bar (F and C words) was not managed by the staff. We had to complain to the customers involved to little effect. It spoilt what could have been a very enjoyable evening. We stayed for three nights and choose to spend our evenings elsewhere as a direct result of the bad language.
Review 2:The room was clean and comfortable and the bed was fantastic. Breakfast was lovely and the restaurant menu and food was excellent.
Review 3:If someone went for a pee in the middle of the night you knew about it! General lack of sound insulation
Review 4:Relaxed atmosphere efficient staff nice surroundings in the hotel
Review 5:Everyone was extremely friendly and the food was first class. After the 'full Cornwall breakfast,' I was full for the day! Rooms were very comfortable and warm.
Review 6:Very friendly and very happy to make the stay enjoyable, the food and services were excellent , could not have had a better stay in St Just they where very helpful in telling us of the best places to visit.
Review 7:Limited time for breakfast and 10am checkout (though apparently they are flexible about that off season) ensures you get up and get going in the morning.
Review 8:Attractive, simply decorated old hotel with a friendly welcome, a lively bar, and a huge conservatory for a quiet drink on the sofa in the evening and a light, cheery spot for a good breakfast in the morning. Warm and inviting protection from the gales! Great value off season. (In season, I hear rumour they have a nice garden!)
Review 9:The only thing I would say is breakfast could have done with being laid on until 10am over the weekend.
Review 10:The warm and friendly welcome and the fact it was a small family run hotel, made for a very comfortable stay. Would definitely go back again. A lovely quiet weekend, just what we needed.
Review 11:Breakfast was good, but could have more stuff to choose from.
Review 12:Booked a room to stay over the weekend, and I eanted something cheap, so we went with it. To be really honest, I was't expecting a good hotel for the priced I payed, but I was wrong! Staff very friendly, the rooms are confortable, free parking and the best part, everything was very clean!
Review 13:n/a
Review 14:The owner and the Staff like what they do and it shows. Thoroughly decent and hardworking people doing a great job running a well-priced hotel. The Star right opposite the hotel is one of the best pubs anywhere.
Review 15:nothing really if i had to mention one thing it would be the tv is on the small side
Review 16:nice rooms , very clean and warm ,great food, fantastic staff, nice evening meals and nice breakfast
Review 17:Main drawback is the lack of dedicated parking. Out of season it was no problem as there is a very good public free car park quite close. Usual bouncy foam pillows and some tired carpeting on the stairs - all relatively minor issues for me.
Review 18:Clean, friendly, efficient, warm and room nicely decorated, with excellent shower unit and a choice of toiletries. Good breakfast with wholemeal bread (rarity). Evening meal was a side-splitter ! Inexpensive, too, so very good value for money. Definitely a 'well done'. Very good position for coastal walking.
Review 19:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff and owners, more than happy to help and give you ideas for days out. Food was excellent, well presented and in a lovely environment. They were fully booked as it was last night of the Proms and the Minack, but they still kept the first class service throughout
Review 20:cannot score breakfast as i was up to early to enjoy, but the breakfast room looked very welcoming. Manager very accomodating and a real family feel to the place. Rooms nice and clean and modern.
Review 21:TV didn't work.
Review 22:Position,breakfast room and breakfast good, provides evening meal at reasonable cost. Help with taking bags to second floor. Big bathroom
Review 23:Girls serving breakfast were a little bit stern - it does not cost a thing to smile :)
Review 24:Excellent location - beautiful little town & lovely, comfortable rooms - Breakfast was very nice. Highly enjoyed our stay and would recommend to other people.
Review 25:Room was too hot (and the heating wasn't even on yet!) Breakfast was the worst we had in 5 different hotels over the week - not the best quality and disappointingly small of some items.
Review 26:Good location in centre of village. Room had plenty of space and good shower. Food very good in the evening.
Review 27:Extremely steep stairs to the upper floors. Very limited breakfast times & absurdly early check-out time (10am, even on the weekend!). Very loud noise from nearby pubs late at night on weekends.
Review 28:Clean & characterful room, very well ventilated. The coffee on the house while we were waiting for our bus to Penzance for an hour after check-out on a chilly, wet morning was excellent customer service.
Review 29:Very small shower with difficult access even for a small(ish) person. Bed too soft for my taste. Very weak coffee at breakfast.
Review 30:The central location couldn't be better. Great view of the central square from my window. Small room but very cosy. Very quiet at night. Fast wifi. Excellent breakfast, with wide range of cereal, fruit, etc. and veggie full Cornish option. Very friendly manager, who's a mine (sorry, corny Cornish joke) of information on the town and surroundings.
Review 31:I was cold at night and the bathroom had a masher unit for the toilet which smelt. The bar area felt very workmanlike (darts match and pool in progress). Parking was a 5 minute walk down the road.
Review 32:Breakfast was very good, room comfortable. The location was perfect.
Review 33:My husband was starting a cycle from Land's End to John O'Groats the next day so had his bike. The staff ensured it was locked away safe for the night & started breakfast early for us the next morning so he could get away in time. Nothing was too much trouble.
Review 34:Room was last available & described as small double (room 3). The ensuite was very small & would have been difficult for someone of restricted mobility. Staff just laughed when issue raised saying it was advertised as small.
Review 35:Location
Review 36:Conveniently located in St Just main square with shops, cafes, restaurants/take aways close by. Friendly, helpful owner and staff and good food including children's meals.
Review 37:Fabulous food. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal in the conservatory, great wine too. Great choices for breakfast. Would definitely recommend to others.
Review 38:All the staff was so friendly, and helpful the son even draw a map off the best way to get a few place which we had want to see. Great food comfortable rooms plus it had a lovely garden to sit in if you wished. Great Area to visit many local sights.
Review 39:Comfortable room, friendly/helpful staff, well-located hotel in centre of St Just, very generous breakfasts with plenty of choice and good quality ingredients, good place also for evening meal with fantastic fresh seafood.
Review 40:Just needed some block out curtains at the windows as was still quite light at night and in the mornings when the sun rose.
Review 41:The location was good. Staff very friendly and accommodating on arrival. Good pub atmosphere. Lovely big room and bathroom.
Review 42:We were in room 11 - if you want a room with a view, this isn't the one for you! However, we did get a reasonable nights sleep...unlike our friends on the other side of the building who were kept awake by local youths into the wee hours (birthday celebrations apparently; I'm sure it doesn't happen every day...and we were all young once!)
Review 43:The staff were extremely friendly...we had a special weekend planned and they helped us with booking transport (for a group of 8 friends) and chilling our prosecco for an outing to the local Minack Theatre. The breakfasts were amazing, particularly the 'Full Cornish' - lovely sausages and bacon.
Review 44:Better sound proofing to floor above, sounded like a herd of elephants waking us up 2 nights running
Review 45:Staff, dinner was fantastic-exceeded our expectations
Review 46:we liked it all !!!!!
Review 47:we were made very welcome, shown round the hotel. Our bags were carried to our room which was spotless ,had a great ensuite with shower and our breakfast was yummy
Review 48:My room was right at the top of the building and I had a bad knee, so negotiating the stairs was very difficult as they were very steep and there is no lift, this made the pain worse of course.
Review 49:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. Great location for exploring the town. Newly renovated room with a nice shower.
Review 50:Everything was really good. Owner & staff really friendly. The restaurant looked good, we will try it next time. Our room was lovely. Breakfast was excellent and served in a lovely atrium room.
Review 51:Everything!! The staff, the hotel, the rooms, the food!! Everything was excellent!! We’re going to recommend the Commercial to everyone we know!! :D The full Cornish breakfast was amazing!! Couldn't have started off the day any better!! :D And a big plus for all the hot chocolate lovers out there, they have hot chocolate in the rooms!! :D Everything was exactly like the pictures on Booking.com, we were extremely impressed!! Thank you very much for all the laughs, Paul & Michelle and all the tourist information you told us!! We hope to come again soon!! :D Jennifer, Leroy & family! :)
Review 52:The location was perfect as we were flying to St. Mary's and the airport was only a few minutes drive away. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. Lovely room and very comfortable bed.
Review 53:I can't fill in this section as there was nothing to complain about.
Review 54:This is A family run establishment. They are very helpful and so are their staff. There is an excellent Bar and snooker table etc. Breakfast could not be faulted. So it's a YES from us.
Review 55:Friendliness and efficiency of staff good location for what we wanted to do Good breakfast choice and cleanliness of breakfast area Tea and coffee in room menu choice
Review 56:After a long working day it was really nice to get to the Hotel. The room was cozy and clean. The mattress was surprisingly comfortable. I received a pleasant treatment from all the staff during my stay. I would recommend the Commercial without a doubt whatsoever.
Review 57:Lovely staff, good value hotel and the food was great. Room very clean, comfy bed, crisp white bed linen, we slept very well, nice toiletries and good power shower, A little gem of a hotel ideal when walking south west coast path.
Review 58:Very cramped bedroom, probably the worst we have ever stopped in. It was like being in a caravan, and was on the second floor of a building with 4 steep flights of stairs.
Review 59:The bar meals and the breakfast. The conservatory area downstairs.
Review 60:Nothing to say, all good.
Review 61:Extremely friendly and helpful staff, location great for walking coastal paths, good choice for breakfast, we also ate dinner which again was excellent. Our room was spacious and extremely clean as was the ensuite. Would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.
Review 62:We only stayed the one night and wished we could have stayed more.
Review 63:This hotel is very conveniently placed for the airfield at St Just(Lands End). We have stayed here for a single night in each of the last three years, prior to flying to the Isles of Scilly. Serves very good pub-style food.
Review 64:The stairs (but we could have had a lower floor room if we wanted but top floor was too good to pass up) Early breakfast. Early closing of bar.
Review 65:Friendly staff, good breakfast, good evening meal. Big room and bathroom. Beautiful garden for relaxing with a drink after a hard day's sightseeing! Location.
Review 66:Because of the nature of the Hotel, our bedroom was a bit small and didn't have a table and chair in it. There seemed to be a shortage of staff on duty on the night we ate in the restaurant.
Review 67:The Hotel's central location and general ambience - The Commercial Hotel has a good "feel" to it. The staff are very friendly and helpful and our room and bathroom were very clean and tidy. We would certainly choose to stay here again.
Review 68:Didn't like being asked to move at breakfast as 'those tables are not set up for breakfast'! Steep stairs up to the 3rd floor room!
Review 69:Friendly Landlord/manager, nothing was to much trouble. Large airy room with good views over the village., Large ensuite.
Review 70:Minor - Unfortunate to have big stair climb but would expect this in building type.
Review 71:Most everything particularly the very cheerful and helpful reception / restaurant staff
Review 72:The noise during the night on the street (our window was pointing directly to the street)
Review 73:The cosiness of the rooms The full english breakfast The cider in the evening The comfort of the room
Review 74:Rooms could do with some updating. Bathroom was fine.
Review 75:Small hotel linked to pub etc.. Accommodation is fairly basic but fine. Good food. We had both breakfast and dinner. Good center for touring North Coast of Cornwall in the South West. Staff were friendly.
Review 76:I didn't find the bed comfy which was a shame.
Review 77:On arrival we were greeted by a lovely young lady and I think the manager/owner both were friendly. We were taken to the room and shown around. The room was a small double and it was small but had everything you would need. Bathroom was very small and shower was tiny but we managed. The room had a fantastic information folder, we were very impressed with it. I think the room could do with a little facelift but it was ok and it was clean. We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant both nights I must say the food was excellent and again all the staff we came across were so friendly.
Review 78:We received a warm welcome on arrival. The room was nice and comfortable. The evening meal served in the conservatory was very good and we both enjoyed it. Rooms were clean and tidy, the ensuite was also very good.A very good hotel to stay in.
Review 79:rude person behind the bar, bed gave me a bad back, lunch was appreciated but to have a doorstop as a sandwich was a bit much to take
Review 80:very friendly and accommodating on the phone, nice to be given a tour to show us what was where, room was very clean
Review 81:We stayed in and had an evening meal which was superb and very special for the both if us. Top quality local sea food cooked perfectly and washed down with a very snazzy bottle of prosecco! Top notch
Review 82:We really had no complaints whatsoever.
Review 83:The Commercial was easy to find and in an excellent spot for exploring the southern coast of Cornwall. The town of St. Just is small but has everything you need very conveniently located. There is a spacious carpark with free parking about a half a block from the hotel. Be sure to visit the old church on the town square. The Commercial had friendly staff, excellent food, and the room was comfortable and quiet.
Review 84:Nothing
Review 85:Perfect location for everything, you can leave the car in free car park and get buses to Penzance, Lands End, Sennen and St Ives. Great pub nights in the Star with friendly locals and Paul the owner of the Commercial couldn't have been more helpful. Varied breakfast and evening menu was very good value. Thanks for a great stay. Steve
Review 86:REALLY soft beds
Review 87:Paul, the owner was incredebly nice, he gave us a lot of good advice on what to do in st just on a rainy day. Nice pub. Good breakfast.
Review 88:Being woken by the traffic. We were overlooking the junction were the buses had to rev up when pulling out followed by the coop delivery and the bin trucks. All arriving between 6.30 and 7.30
Review 89:The staff were friendly and the rooms were clean. We ate in the resturants in the evening which was very good. The breakfast was well above average for a b&b and plenty of it.
Review 90:Comfy bed, great shower, friendly staff, lovely breakfast. St Just and area are beautiful, close to the amazing Cape Cornwall, great beaches and more.
Review 91:I have already recommended The Commercial to some friends as it is a great B&B and in an ideal location. It is 20 mins drive from Minnack Theatre, Porthcurno and Sennan Cove and only 10 minutes from Cape Cornwall. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the room, which was the smallest as we booked late, was lovely and clean. The Commercial has a beautiful courtyard and garden at the back. The breakfast was delicious. I highly recommend The Commercial to anyone visiting the area.
Review 92:Nothing of importance comes to mind.
Review 93:Hotel central and easy to find. Parking close by. Pleasant, helpful staff. Bedroom and en-suite on the small size but adequate. Towels, bed linen clean and fresh. Extensive menu. We had evening meal in conservatory. The food was OUTSTANDING, Keep it up Commercial!
Review 94:The welcome we got from both staff and locals made us feel right at home, THANK YOU! The young waiting on staff are a credit to The Commercial and St Just. What a lovely place.
Review 95:Room with poor window nxt to conservatory glass roof. Very noisy due to either air conditioning or kitchen extractor
Review 96:Close to Minack and Carnyorth which is what we needed. Very pleasant eve meal. Nice restaurant and breakast areas Pleasant staff Room and shower room had all we required
Review 97:Just a pointer,,, the young girls were very helpful but a bit more talking with the residents would work better.
Review 98:Most things. Room fab. Staff friendly. Food good. Veggie breakfast was the best.
Review 99:The small double bedroom was truly small but in fairness the details did suggest this !
Review 100:Delightful Cornish village with plenty of facilities. Hotel very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Excellent conservatory breakfast room.
Review 101:the noise of the saniflow toilets - the on-suite was small but adequate as we were only there for two nights
Review 102:Only down for the weekend for a family wedding My husband and I both thought the owner was very friendly very welcoming and knowledgable about the local area. The room was clean. Other Staff were very nice. We didn't eat in the hotel in the evening but the Breakfasts were great.
Review 103:Apart from the lady that checked me in, not the most welcoming of staff, not the worst, but not the best either.
Review 104:Lady that checked me in very friendly. Good breakfast.
Review 105:The room was quite small and the bathroom even smaller. A soiled towel from the previous guest were left in the bathroom.
Review 106:The hotel is conveniently located for sightseeing in Cornwall. It is a lovely Inn and the town of St. Just is very pretty. Dinner was well prepared and nicely presented.
Review 107:Decor a little jaded in our room but it was a good sized room and very comfortable larve double bed
Review 108:Very clean, friendly staff, lovely food, fairly pri ed accomodation.
