Reviews for Best Western The Royal Chase Hotel

Review 1:Rather slow order taking at breakfast. Orders taken first from people coming in later was not good for my morale.

Review 2:Large room, large bed. Clean room and bathroom (decent towels), new décor. Happy, helpful staff.

Review 3:The room was very shabby, very dirty cobwebs on lights, cobwebs in lamp shade on bedside table, bathroom bin dirty, radiator thick with dust and back of door in bathroom very dirty. Overall cleanliness terrible for price paid

Review 4:Staff friendly & nice big comfy bed

Review 5:It is rather overpriced. The rooms are fractionally better than a Travel lodge but the price is significantly more. Breakfast was not included in our deal and the receptionist tried hard to sell us a very overpriced breakfast!

Review 6:Close to the main attractions in Shaftesbury. The bathroom was nice and clean and actually had a full size bath tub.

Review 7:We were told a party taking place and could be noisy which was no problem but after a long day out they never said could not get food as busy cooking for a christmas party. Think should not book guests if not cope.

Review 8:Rooms were great and swimming pool added bonus very clean and tidy

Review 9:The staff went out of their way to help us when we explained we would have to cut short our stay due to a bereavement. They arranged a packed lunch for our travel to the airport and checked our flight status as the airport was closed due to a security breach. Excellent customer service. Thank you so very much. They definitely went the extra mile.

Review 10:I only found out on arrival that they had no lift and I did not know till check out they had ground floor rooms.

Review 11:Good Sunday night price and swimming pool long hours. Good choice of food.

Review 12:Swimming pool area is having work done at one end. Steam room is being refurbished probably. The pool was a little on the cool side for our liking.

Review 13:Excellent Premier room with en-suite. Very comfortable, with fresh and modern decor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Superb evening meal and an excellent breakfast too.

Review 14:The room could do with another chair, otherwise one person has to sit on the bed.

Review 15:Bed & bedding very comfortable & v large! Bathroom good & wardrobe spacious. Room quiet.

Review 16:Dinner menu was in the room so we chose from that but when we got to the dining room the waitress said that it no longer applied and gave a typed menu of only 5 choices - not at all the same as we had wanted. What we had was OK but we were disappointed we couldn't have the choice we wanted.

Review 17:Breakfast was lovely.

Review 18:Bathroom could do with sprucing up a little.

Review 19:Friendly staff, great restaurant, nice swimming pool & a comfy room. All the usual complementary items well presented.

Review 20:We were disappointed that we were unable to get a taxi into town, but distance to walk was too far for my elderly mother.

Review 21:Pleasant stay with family members. We visited Bath and wandered around the town. We ate at a local public house within walking distance. Room was very comfortable, clean and quiet.

Review 22:Very minor but it would have been lovely to have a box of tissues either in the bathroom or bedroom.

Review 23:Everything, I can't fault my stay. From the first person I met, a very friendly receptionist, my stay was excellent. My room was clean and very comfortable, quiet with a window that opened and a radiator I could control. My evening meal and breakfast were delicious, and the waitresses friendly and helpful. I had planned to go for a swim, but didn't quite get there,as my room was so comfortable. Was brilliant to have a full free view tv, rather than just a select few channels. Will recommend to others.

Review 24:The rooms were a little tired as was the hotel generally. Evening meal of fish and chips disappointing fish measured about 4inchs cost £13 I commented on it and was given another piece of fish. Did not have evening meal there after that.

Review 25:Large double bedroom for single occupancy comfy bed. Good breakfast. Good parking. Staff friendly and helpful with information of the area. Good value for the money and short stay.

Review 26:Sat nav took us to housing estate behind hotel which was a little annoying maybe give directions or warn that satnav does not take you to correct place!!!

Review 27:Nice room , clean, plenty of space easy to park, restaurant on site.

Review 28:Piped music was a bit loud . Other than that its a great hotel.

Review 29:Very well priced hotel. Clean large rooms . Very friendly helpful staff. Nice pool. Good breakfast.

Review 30:rooms facing the gravel laid car park are effected by noise as there is no aircon in the rooms and if windows are left open the noise is intrusive. No late check out available No family rooms available meals are overpriced

Review 31:Rooms were clean and staff were friendly - nice pool and garden

Review 32:Broken Shower holder, very difficult to shower, no waffer with ice-cream and very greasy breakfast for my wife, smoked salmon poor quality and scramble eggs too dry. Food let the hotel down.

Review 33:Very helpful staff and quiet room

Review 34:The toilet cistern leaked, the toilet roll holder fell off, the bathroom door was filthy (on the inside of the bathroom), bathroom was grimy and dated, lamp above the bed fell down on me during the night - only whole milk with tea making tray....

Review 35:Your staff were so helpful and friendly

Review 36:Busy weekend. Had to wait for a table for breakfast. Should perhaps have been anticipated that there would be so many people needing breakfast. Maybe could have had over-spill breakfast room, in the circumstances.

Review 37:very helpful staff. Comfortable stay and good facilities

Review 38:Very hard/uncomfortable bed. Very poor water pressure for shower. Potholed drive.

Review 39:The cooked breakfast: the scrambled eggs were superb. The receptionists were charming.

Review 40:Interior looks tired- Rooms clean but fixtures and fittings all done on a budget. Food in hotel satisfactory but nothing special for the price.

Review 41:Convenient position- Staff pleasant - pool was nice but no steam room available throughout stay.

Review 42:No lift, did not like the dining room or bar. Room was dark only small window, car park small. Very expensive for 3 stars.

Review 43:Breakfast was very nice but expensive.

Review 44:Hotel seems to be going through a makeover but would say the hotel accommodation is tired and the makeover should also include the inside of the wardrobes

Review 45:Floor in room 4 is uneven.

Review 46:Convenient location, easy to find and fairly quiet bearing in mind proximity to A30. Staff efficient and helpful when arranging taxi.

Review 47:Breakfast staff were not attentive enough, had to keep asking continually for things

Review 48:Really loved the hotel and where it was based, first class all-round

Review 49:Food experience wasn't great - reheated and over cooked chips. 1 diner in our group kept waiting for theirs to be served. Scambled egg at breakfast with no taste what so ever !

Review 50:Cleanliness great

Review 51:The second floor was very hot ,despite a fan in the hall way and one in our room and having our windows open all night.

Review 52:Friendly welcoming staff. The large room which was clean and comfortable.

Review 53:Drastically overpriced hotel in need of modernisation. No air con or fridge in our room, shower was little more than a dribble & despite facility description, no bidet or slippers. Hairs on the carpet & bedding. The restaurant had zero atmosphere ( or wifi ) so we ate at the pub across the road. Staff were moderately helpful on arrival & dismissive on departure. Had it not been for the convenient location on route to Poole we would've asked for a refund & gone elsewhere. An average b&b pretending to be a nice hotel because it has a pool!

Review 54:The bed was comfortable & spacious.

Review 55:Air conditioning in the room would have made it a bit more comfortable on a warm night. As even with the window open there was not much air movement.

Review 56:Really easy to find, with excellent parking. The family room was ideal for us with young children. Bathroom had choice of a shower and a bath ( some hotels just have showers) so ideal for bathing the children after a busy day! Restaurant, great food and catered for children. We had a fantastic time!

Review 57:The shower in the room was difficult to turn on and the pressure was poor.

Review 58:Breakfast - the service and friendliness of the staff was exellent. Bed was very comfortable.

Review 59:Our room was over a wedding party and when we got back to our room after dinner, it was like being in a night club. Complained and informed music would stop at 11.30 which it did but not a pleasant experience. Also water pressure on shower was very weak.

Review 60:Location

Review 61:Initially given tiny room next to noisy refurbishment when there was larger quiet room available after complaining we were moved Complained at dinner about loud mindless music waitress said nothing could be done and no one else had complained we persisted and quiet was eventually restored enabling all us diners to actually eat in peace

Review 62:Quiet bedroom

Review 63:Food microwave cooked and very pricey. Shower was appalling and barely powerful enough to wash my hair. Room soundproofing poor which meant that when someone decided to have a bath at 1am I could hear everything including the blasted extraction fan!

Review 64:Location was near to where I was visiting.

Review 65:The food was poor apart from the fish we had cod and chips and cod loin first night and both excellent. Ordered haddock for breakfast and only one piece left The desert of treacle pudding with orange sauce was so over done that we sent id back, forgotten in the oven, treacle turned black. Girl said did I want another "No, it should never have left the kitchen but in a waste bucket." Creme brulee was solid and hard Sorry

Review 66:Nice room and very helpful and friendly staff

Review 67:Servaral things: we thought from the room description, that all rooms had a bath. Our room didn't, it was a tiny room and so I returned to reception asked if any rooms with bath were available, nope, all taken. Then we discovered the lights wouldn't work in our room, maintenance arrived, couldn't fix it, so he asked us to move into the room next door. A much larger room, and it had a bath ! Soaking and relaxing commenced, then the fire alarm goes off, just as we exit the building, it's declared false alarm. This happened a further 2 times during the night at 2 am and 4am. No appologies next morning, very poor handling of the situation.

Review 68:Comfortable hotel as with most of the best western chain.

Review 69:Did not have a bad experience but felt the bedroom was 'a little tired and dated'

Review 70:Liked the fact that there was a small lounge away from the bar and t.v. Where we could read and socialise with friends. The staff were polite and helpful!

Review 71:Shower difficult to turn on, and very long wait for hot water. Not good enough for the price of the room. Staff at breakfast requesting order before we'd had a chance for a proper look at the menu.

Review 72:Welcoming atmosphere with friendly and helpful staff on reception. Spacious bedroom with king size bed. Lovely swimming pool.

Review 73:The staff in whole were helpful, but we have to say Sarah Jane/Jayne? - Reception was excellent from the minute we walked through the door. This young lady could not do enough and above all she cared about how people felt.

Review 74:I work in the industry and was disappointed that the staff were not always available. I was left waiting at the reception, bar and breakfast room and on more than one occasion had to look for staff to help, it seems to me that the hotel was understaffed leaving positions empty is unacceptable, it does not give a good impression, however when I did manage to find someone they were helpful.

Review 75:The Hotel clean and tidy comfortable and a good location.

Review 76:Not having bathroom cleaned properly. Not replacing toiletries. Having to clear our own table for breakfast before we could sit down . Along with two other couples. In an empty dining room. Male staff said sit where you like then left.

Review 77:Good value. Swimming pool. Spacious room. Comfortable bed and pillows. Warm. Good female staff. Freshly cooked breakfast.nice meal in restaurant.

Review 78:The meal was dreadful however the price of the meal was refunded to us. We ordered a very simple meal, gammon with pineapple, I would have thought that would be easy to cook. Did taint our stay. The bed was only a standard double and rather small for my 6' 4" partner.

Review 79:Nothing bad but hot water system needs some attention as did the heating in the room.

Review 80:We were generally looked after very well and there were plenty of places to lounge.

Review 81:Breakfast and bar service really slow, you end up walking back n forth trying to find any staff to help. Continuously missing items from my breakfast and I only had a set full English, had to wait 35 minutes for my coffee. Bed was uncomfortable and the fire alarm went off twice during a four night stay. Unable to relax.

Review 82:Fairly central location with a nice pub opposite, the pub had better service and better food than the hotel.

Review 83:Loud football on the TV in the bar, not great when trying to talk and eat. Looked in the restaurant but very quiet, no background music or atmosphere. Grumpy staff at breakfast. Eggs and bacon was one egg and one piece of bacon, not very generous considering I could have had a full English. Crumbs and food on the carpet. Expected better for a Best Western.

Review 84:Perfect location for staying in Shaftesbury with ample parking. The hotel has an interesting history. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Lovely room (Room 3) with generous tea, coffee and biscuits. Free Wifi.

Review 85:Breakfast was rubbish not enough staff on duty and had to wait ages for a table which had not been relaid the young lad on duty did not have the experaince to cope

Review 86:A booking requests made and checked by telephone was ignored. The management was indifferent to a complaint.

Review 87:Room was good size and comfortable. The pool was warm. The receptionist helpful

Review 88:Room extremely cold due to ineffective radiators and hotel needs updating, particularly the bathrooms. Our shower was not the best giving out luke warm water at a slow trickle. Food was mediocre; some of it overcooked and at breakfast some main items ran out less than an hour into service. At £100 per night I would expect better.

Review 89:Majority of staff were very friendly and helpful, answered our questions and dealt with any issues quickly and politely. Some issues were outside of their control such as the ineffective heating but they did their best to ensure our comfort.

Review 90:Drinks purchased at the bar were a tad expensive

Review 91:The staff were very professional and the food (wedding breakfast, evening buffet & breakfast the following day) was excellent. Very large, comfy bed too.

Review 92:I arrived for Breakfast some 15 - 20 mins after official end time and although the breakfast room was still very active with some poeple only just served their cooked breakfast i was told I was too late and refused a full breakfast service. No attempt made to offer me any subset of the full breakfast and only got tea and toast The bed frame was so wide that it covered the switches on the wall for turning the lights on and off Very small TV for size of room

Review 93:Room was warm quiet and of good size

Review 94:The whole hotel is showing its age. My chair in the dining room was falling apart, paper coming off the wall in the bedroom and bathroom. Room heater had to be provided as heating system not working. Pump in swimming pool running all night, kept me awake. Apart from that all fine.

Review 95:£75 for a single night but it is normal

Review 96:setting - beauty of tall trees and lawn and easy access from main road but well soundproofed. Beauty of the period building. The Swimming pool! The spacious and well appointed dining area and bar. A place of gentle harmony and order which helps you to relax and feel at peace. All comforts are provided and if you need anything the staff are alert and keen to offer their help and service and genuinely nice and real people who seem to love the Hotel.

Review 97:Reception staff on arrival too busy to serve us as chatting on phone to friend .On check out at 10.30 we found an empty reception . One receptionist appeared and said she was off duty and that the on duty had gone to get breakfast. Training in customer service is advised,

Review 98:Excellent breakfast

Review 99:The bath shower was tricky and it wasn't possible to get the water as hot as I would have liked.

Review 100:The fact that there was no piped music or TVs. Lovely sitting room with books and wonderful photographs on the walls. Swimming pool. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Review 101:Excellent choice and quality of Breakfast. Arrived late and only stayed one night so review based on a limited experience, but at the price I paid was very satisfied.

Review 102:Bathroom and shower was old fashioned. Shower was not great and sink had the separated or and cold taps. No blind or prover you window in the bathroom. Breakfast was so so so slow and not even worth the wait. Know not pay for breakfast at the hotel go to one of the lovely places in the town, as we learned to do despite having prepaid for the breakfast for our whole stay. If I was needing to stay in the area again I wouldn't say here unless everywhere else was booked up.

Review 103:Bed was comfortable Free wi-fi.

Review 104:Not having a blind on the bathroom window, which had clear, not opaque, glass. Yes it had a net curtain, but I didn't feel I could turn the light on to have a shower or go to the loo at night ! Very strange,

Review 105:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food Lovely pool Good location and grounds

Review 106:Noise from the wedding on Saturday night but it did stop fairly early - our room was above the venue. No map from hotel into town centre and differing directions from staff but an easy stroll

Review 107:A pleasant hotel on the outskirts of Shaftesbury. Shaftesbury town @ Gold Hill

Review 108:Bathroom very small no room or shelves to put anything down. Shower pressure very poor, sink very small, taps have been fitted with water saving device that produces small jets of spray that squirt everywhere when you turn them on.

Review 109:Staff reasonably friendly. Breakfast quite good.

Review 110:A lift would be a help for some of your guests

Review 111:Your staff at The Royal Chase are excellent. On the Friday evening two young ladies did the reception, the bar and waited table, all with no delay and a cheerful manner, first class. Saturday with a wedding there were more people on and the service was again excellent

Review 112:At breakfast I was made to wait to go to a table even though there were SIX empty tables just because I was a solo traveller. Too few staff at breakfast and not very helpful or polite. If breakfast time is limited and everyone wants it there needs to be more staff. The room was very hot.

Review 113:The room was big and spacious. It was clean and fairly comfortable.

Review 114:There was an initial issue with our booking and the Hotel followed it up promptly and gave us feedback as soon as we arrived to the Hotel to check in.

Review 115:Lack of sun loungers in the pool area to allow guests to relax. We had chosen this hotel as we had sought a hotel with leisure facilities, where we could relax for much of the day. Unfortunately this was not possible here.

Review 116:Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very spacious.

Review 117:No fridges or microwaves in the rooms No face cloths for washing No lift for suitcases going upstairs, and there are lots of steps. Would love to see the bars of soap as opposed to the shampoo gel

Review 118:The beds were cozy The rooms were a great size Close to shops and things Swimming pool on location Great food Service was wonderful - very helpful staff.

Review 119:The room booked smelt strongly of cigarette smoke, the duvet cover was badly stained- amazed that house keeping even used this. Were moved to another room which was much smaller so we felt that this represented very poor value for money . Also was telephoned 2 days before stay to warn of a wedding reception and that it would be noisy, however how many people can change where to stay at this late stage if it had not been ok ?

Review 120:The room was straight out of the 1950's, the furniture consisted of some dilapidated 'stained' (and I mean stained) pine pieces that would not have looked out of place on a council tip. The bathroom was dreadful - I have seen better fittings and fixtures on the TV programme "Homes Under the Hammer". The very large bathroom window that looks out over the rear garden and onto a housing estate is covered with nothing more than a thin net curtain. When you stand in the shower, you must be visible to anyone in the back garden or from the housing estate. I inquired at reception if this curtain was adequate to prevent people looking in and was told that it was impossible for anyone to view inside the room from the garden or rooms to our right. However, I could clearly see a guest lying on his bed in rooms at right angles to ours so if we could see him from our bathroom window he could see inside the bathroom. As Rooms 7-13 are directly above the kitchens you are not only subject to smells & noise but in the morning you have the pleasure of listening to the breakfast chef's favorite morning radio programme which he (or she) like's to do at full volume. I gave this piece the title of "A Saxon hotel in a Saxon town" well, that is being unkind to Saxon's !! To end, we stayed at this hotel last year and it had notices saying it was being re-furbished and would guests please excuse the disruption - it is obvious that they are still waiting to start this planned refurbishment .

Review 121:The towels and bedding were clean !!

Review 122:This is a terrible place- I can't believe these sorts of 'hotel's' still exist. All tatty and worn around the edges - stuck in the 70's…we arrived late and our orignally booked room was located over 'ballroom' with party in full swing …the entire room was shaking - we asked for a different room - which we were given - it was still noisy but at least you could fall asleep - we gave breakfast a miss after one glance at the tinned fruit ….and that for £130,00 gee whizzz - no way!

Review 123:they moved us to another room and we received a discount upon check out! Other than that we did not like anything!

Review 124:Nothing

Review 125:Friendly staff. Good location and food

Review 126:The pillows were a bit too firm for me.

Review 127:I liked the spacious quiet room. I liked the tasty fresh breakfast and the friendly staff.

Review 128:V comfortable beds. Quiet. Close to town. Friendly but not obtrusive staff

Review 129:expensive meals

Review 130:refreshment tray & good tv in room lovely pool pleasant very helpful staff comfy but narrow single beds

Review 131:Staff

Review 132:The food

Review 133:The staff were rude and untrained in dealing with groups and shooting parties

Review 134:No all good

Review 135:Quiet polite staff rooms good

Review 136:Bathroom a little tired looking and could have done with a good clean - too much hair in places!!!!

Review 137:Helpful staff and nearness to the town

Review 138:In good state of repair but looking a little dated

Review 139:Very clean, good location
