Reviews for Bleak House Broadstairs

Review 1:Nothing much other than that the rate was a little high given that is is winter. Then again it is probably super expensive to maintain the building. Guess the hotel inspector would find bits here and there which could be improved upon. Small things such as very cheap cloth hangers on a rail in the entrance. Makes the lovely place look really cheap. Things like this but nothing big really.

Review 2:Location is fantastic! The place has a lot of charm and history! Breakfast was lovely. Bathroom was new and very clean. Staff were very nice.Great view!

Review 3:We received a friendly welcome from all of the staff at the hotel. The log fires and decorations made a perfect Christmas atmosphere. The rooms were comfortable, the views fantastic and the breakfast just what we ordered.

Review 4:Could not get any Wi-Fi reception, not everything that was advertised was in the room. The mini bar was a small fridge with 2 bottles of water in, no trouser press & no hairdryer or iron.

Review 5:Room was great & so was the view, bearing in mind we had booked the honeymoon suite as it was the last available room.

Review 6:Had a wonderful stay at Bleak House, Jake was super friendly , we had the 3 roomed suite on the top floor, great views, good hearty breakfast. Nicola the manager and her team did a wonderful job taking care of us. Very historic and Broadstairs is a lovely town to visit

Review 7:Very friendly and helpful staff. Just a few steps from the sandy beach. Great location and short walks to a large choice of restaurants. Lovely walks along the beach. Very clean and an interesting place to stay.

Review 8:The only thing the bathroom should have some ventilation.

Review 9:Everything. We had a lovely visit. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. They couldn't do enough for us. We rented the apartment which suited us perfectly.

Review 10:Jake worked exceptionally hard to make our stay enjoyable but there was a distinct lack of other staff around. The entrance hall was not very welcoming. Parking was difficult. The apartment consisting of three bedrooms had an oddment of furniture with a fridge and kettle in the shared small landing outside the bedrooms. Expensive considering one shared bathroom, no en suite and no lounge.

Review 11:Fantastic views over Broadstairs. Beds were very comfortable. Unique venue with Dickens study in tact. the breakfast was lovely as was the dining room.

Review 12:The friendliness of the staff when arriving was not what you would expect from such an expensive hotel. The carpark was very small and not suitable for our car. Although we had reserved parking there was no space available. Therefore, after trying to fit the car for a good few minutes, we went to the free on street parking, just a short walk away.

Review 13:Charming hotel with lots of character. Good breakfast, friendly morning staff.

Review 14:It feels like the hotel is cashing in on the location and the history. There could be a lot more attention to detail, for example the twinbedroom's wardrobe knob was missing in the apartment and the doordidn't fully open and banged against it. No hand towel in thetoilet. The windows didn't open in the bathroom so the room steamedup. As we had just stayed in the Ritz in Berlin for not much more thecomparison was stark.

Review 15:Location and the breakfast.

Review 16:Access after 5PM was via the kitchens! Also no internet other than in the bar which was adjacent to the kitchen and a moist TV spoiling the ambience.

Review 17:The day staff were excellent as were the kippers and breakfast.

Review 18:Not really a bad experience but the coffee at breakfast could have been hotter

Review 19:We didn't use the Wifi. We have known Bleak House as a museum for many years and was very glad to see that the historical feel of the house has been kept to a degree and that Charles Dickens' study and the Smugglers Story is still there. We also loved that we had a little caraf of sherry waiting for us when we arrived

Review 20:I had requested a quest bed but when I got there it hadnt been done.the porter had been told saying he was told it was for a child.having said that he got the guest bed ready straight away.

Review 21:Lovely room copperfield room view's great.plus bathroom excellent. If I could afford it I would go to bleakhouse everytime when visiting broadstairs.

Review 22:The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The children travelling with us are very fussy eaters and they went out of their way to provide whatever we needed! It's a fantastic location with beautiful views of the beach. There's a lovely garden, which was very nice to relax in.

Review 23:Just felt it was a little pricey at £155 for one night mid-week. This is the only thing that would put me off returning.

Review 24:Friendly and polite staff. Lovely building in a very central location. Comfortable well equipped room. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 25:Very difficult room locks. WiFi only downstairs & intermittent. Hot water problems. Parking also difficult. No trouser press or bidet although advertised.

Review 26:Bleak House wonderful & Broadstairs lovely.

Review 27:Personal, friendly service in a beautiful house. Loved the fact that there are not too many rooms, it felt like we were staying in our own private mansion.

Review 28:Nothing to not like

Review 29:We had a lovely stay staff friendly and helpful had a tour of the museum under the house and Dickens study it house is full of history was a lovely treat would recommend it

Review 30:No hot water. Very poor value at £155 for ordinary room. Sea view was over an uninspiring roof terrace. Ok but not at that price.

Review 31:Breakfast was very nice

Review 32:Friendly staff, great location, perfect breakfast. Great attention to detail as we loved having the option of fresh filter coffee in the room, with fresh milk in the fridge instead of instant coffee.

Review 33:No bad experience, all good thank you.

Review 34:Lovely feel to the hotel. Debbie and Nicola were very friendly and helpful when we arrived. We were upgraded to The Charles Dickins Suite which was marvelous. beautiful views over the beach and sea and the gardens. In the morning the young staff couldn't do enough for us and gave us a potted history of the place and a tour around the smugglers cellars, brilliant. The breakfast was first class.

Review 35:The location comfort of room , the staff dressed in traditional clothes really friendly, overall experience just wonderful. Staff where chatty and polite very refreshing , great breakfast menu covering a large range from cereal to full english to Kippers couldn't be better

Review 36:Nice to drink from cup and saucer, milk in matching jug in fridge, complimentary sherry and bottled water. Bathroom very clean, lots of toiletries. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast was wonderful, fresh and hot. Couldn't fault it at all. ... downside was the parking. Overall a very pleasant stay.

Review 37:They very kindly did us breakfast for 08.00. Would be nice to change the time to that.

Review 38:The friendliness of the staff was amazing. The room and bed was superb. Breakfast was excellent. Overall we loved our stay

Review 39:the pillows appeared soft but so soft they went down too flat, lack of support for neck.. I am fussy with pillows others may find them ok but my husband felt the same. The bed was a little firm for us...again our preference.

Review 40:i loved the building and the staff were polite and helpful, the breakfast was great and the rooms were spotless. great location for high street and sea front.

Review 41:Lack of hairdryer in room. Shower jets needed descaling. Tea cups too small for coffee filter inserts, making it a little precarious to use but enjoyed the coffee, thanks! Unit in bathroom restricted legroom. Fridge in room noisy at night-time.

Review 42:Warm welcome and good service from staff (special thanks to Jeff, Jake and Georgie). Comfy bed. Plentiful breakfast selection. Lovely views. Convenient location. Bedroom was clean and tidy. Decanter & glasses was a nice touch.

Review 43:the poor quality of the modernisation- cheap furniture etc ( excluding the glorious antiques) heating on all night, hot water rather temperamental .

Review 44:the history of the place, the friendly staff, the fabulous breakfast

Review 45:The loo and bath are outside your room. Its a slight inconvenience as you need to take the key with you- but you get used to it and it doesn't take away from the beauty of the place.

Review 46:Really enjoyed the stay- very friendly staff and gorgeous location/ view. Queen Victoria once slept in the same bed!

Review 47:One member of staff (when we checked in at 9pm) was really pretty rude. We'd called in earlier to drop off our car and had even left them our car key - this wasn't passed on, and we were met with a tirade - he had been trying to call me, they didn't know if we were coming, how dare I not answer my phone. Tiny car park badly organised, hotel were not able to arrange for our car to be got back out again (luckily the driver of the car blocking us overheard, and offered to move). Room belonged to Dickens - kind of cool but not made clear that it wasn't really en-suite, separate toilet and bathroom down hall. Hotel is also a museum - strange if you're not expecting it. Poor water pressure in bath, no shower.

Review 48:Other staff friendly, wonderful views, good location, nice breakfast.

Review 49:Paid £180 for a night to find we had to get fully dressed to go to the toilet and bathroom as they was down the main corridor where everyone walks through. No privacy at all. Got to hotel. Waited nearly an hour for the bath to fill even though I thought we had a shower. Had a bath then left hotel with no refund as I wasn't prepared or my girlfriend to keep getting up and getting dressed to go to the toilet. Waste of money and badly described. Probably worst place I have ever stayed. Ended up staying in a travel lodge at Ramsgate. Half the money but better value. Do not stay here if you are a regular visitor to the toilet. Really over priced

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Awkward set up. Having to access the hotel through the kitchen, through a side entrance. Arriving in the dark to a unlit, locked gates, and no clear sign of where to park, after sat nav sending us up a dark, narrow, stone walled pathway, because of post code advertised on booking and no information that most of Broadstairs is closed on a Monday.Only guests and only one member of staff present. Wanted us to pay for a upgrade!!.

Review 52:Perfect Location, very friendly accommodating staff.

Review 53:Parking is a problem. First come, first served, but then you wouldn't be able to get out without a lot of vehicle 'shuffling'.

Review 54:Felt very comfortable from the moment we arrived. Geoff made us very welcome, with tea and scrummy scones. The bed in the Fagin room was so comfortable it was hard to get out in the morning. We were there on business so didn't spend a lot of time in the hotel but before we left we did the 'tour' of the house - quaint, quirky with a lot of the original features. Very interesting and well worth a visit.

Review 55:Bleak House is full of history and character. We really liked our room (Little Dorrit). The staff were very attentive & went the extra mile to ensure we were having a nice time. While we were there we were already planning a return visit!

Review 56:Wifi access difficult but not really a problem however if you need this is patchy due to solid walls of old building

Review 57:Great location, lovely old building with original features & great access to town centre. Staff were extremely helpful & made the stay even better

Review 58:Service was amateurish and sloppy. Breakfast was slow, greasy and unappetising. The waiter was barely comprehensible. The WiFi did not work. With investment and above all training for the staff the place has potential, but on our visit Bleak House was an overpriced disappointment.

Review 59:Staff were friendly.

Review 60:Geoff the butler / maitre'd, receptionist, waiter etc etc was there wherever you looked but to a point it became spooky and weirdly funny. I ordered two gins and tonics and he poured the smallest amount of tonic into each and then charges me £1.50 more for a top up. He was trying to be super-efficient but instead came across as quite unfriendly and very odd.

Review 61:The location was amazing and the history of the house was fabulous including Dickens study and the underground smugglers museum.

Review 62:Staff were very friendly and helpful. House was decorated for xmas which they had obviously taken a great deal of time over and gave a real Dickensian feel to the House along with the open fire in the hallway. Enjoyed a cook breakfast on both mornings and it was fresh and well cooked. Tea / coffee making facilities in the room along with a fridge with complimentary water and fresh milk (no uht cartons). Location of Hotel is excellent. 5 min walk to the High St which has a wide range of restaurants and bars. The Palace Cinema is at the end of Fort Road. Nice sized room (Little Dorrit room) and larger-than-normal shower.

Review 63:Everything about Bleak House was exceptional. From the staff - Nina, Nicola, Anastasija and Jake, the wonderful accomodation and the fantastic food. Our stay was very friendly and informal and we would definitely stay there again.

Review 64:We were warmly welcomed, excellent cream tea, room was fine, we didn't try the wi-fi, very comfy bed and slept well. we would definitely stay again. Broadstairs still as lovely as ever.

Review 65:There is nothing not to like.

Review 66:We had a wonderful stay here last weekend, what can I say it was fantastic. Our room had a beautiful sea view and was very tastefully furnished and comfortable. Jake and everyone at Bleak House, were amazing, they just make you feel so welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. The food was brilliant, even catering for a vegan. I would recommend this lovely place to everyone. Thank you all for making it such a special Birthday. Can't wait to visit again.

Review 67:£130 for a small room with no bath was very poor value for money Nice to have a small fridge in the room, but it was so noisy we had to unplug it in order to get any sleep. Parking very limited. Main door locked most of the time which meant guests had to walk through the kitchen area.

Review 68:Wonderful cliff top position Good breakfast Lovely garden If you like Victoiana you will love this hotel

Review 69:we could seem to get the wi fi to work. Also we had a sea view room but the view was not that good.

Review 70:the lovely tough like china cups & saucers in room , plus the biscuits.

Review 71:shower was a bit temperamental too many cushions on the bed - that is an issue for me only - I know other people love them

Review 72:huge comfortable bed amazing breakfast staff made us feel like friends

Review 73:We were in the three bedroom apartment, which would have benefitted from a joiner's handy work to create some more bench space around the fridge to prepare drinks etc.

Review 74:Fantastic Victorian property steeped in history with a commanding view of the bay. Loved the high quality French toiletries in the bathroom and the free range organic breakfast. The staff were very accommodating and we felt very at home.

Review 75:The bedroom was not very big, the bathroom was very narrow but useable. Unfortunately the double bed was very soft. We also felt that the room was perhaps over priced at £135.00 per night B&B it should be less that £100.00.

Review 76:Sea and Town Views, food, cream tea, evening meal, breakfast all very good and well prepared. The house has a lot of character in many ways with it's major link to Charles Dickens.

Review 77:The hotel is looking a bit tired, with paint peeling off the ceiling in my room. It needs some redecorating and brightening up, whilst keeping the references to Dickens.

Review 78:The location and views are excellent. All the staff were really friendly and helpful. It was Folk week and very busy in town but the hotel was really quiet.

Review 79:Some maintenance issues but nothing that spoilt our stay, and yes the parking is a bit difficult but the staff went out of their way to be helpful allowing us to park in their small yard.

Review 80:Our second stay and yes it is a bit quirky and the building is more than 200 years old but that is all part of its charm. Had a lovely weekend stay waking up to one of the best views in the country. We think the top floor suit of 3 bedrooms at £300 is good value. Highly recommend a stay just for the views.

Review 81:sadly the hotel let itself down in 1 respect. It had a very tight and difficult carpark that required guests to block each other in. The hotel desk kept the keys so cars could be moved. This was not a problem but unfortunately the porter, knowing that another party needed their car released at a certain time, waited for my husbands hot breakfast to be served then demanded he immediately go and move the car. Since there were only 3 families being served at that time for breakfast it would not have been hard to either hold the breakfast or plan the car move a little earlier. As it was he came back to a plate of cold food. It was a real shame and spoiled our experience of an otherwise very nice hotel

Review 82:lovely hotel, lovely room with some nice touches

Review 83:Breakfast: but this was spoken about when manager phoned me at home to discuss my issues and was happy with her explanation

Review 84:Location, Accomodation, Facilities

Review 85:Can't think of anything!

Review 86:Loved the house, the rooms, all the little extra touches like milk for tea; sherry; bathroom goodies. Great and helpful staff, yummy breakfast

Review 87:The fact that the bedroom we stayed in did not have an on suite. When I ordered 2 drinks at the bar the barman did not know what the difference was between a Whisky or a Bourbon, I had the latter just to get a drink, I also felt that a Gin and tonic and Bourbon and coke costing just under £12 rather expensive.

Review 88:Loved the room and views and we would most definitely stay there again even though I have friends in Broadstairs, we thought the whole experience of staying in your hotel excellent. the location was just fantastic.

Review 89:Access and parking are difficult. There is however a public car park close by.

Review 90:A house which belonged to Charles Dickens and a favourite. The atmosphere is all there and the house is much the same as in his time. Great position and friendly and helpful staff.

Review 91:better extraction needed for the cooking area, cooking smells quite overpowering in our room

Review 92:Fantastic view from Charles Dicken suite. comfortable room and facilities. Amazing history of BLeak house. Lovely breakfast with fresh local produce

Review 93:The beach

Review 94:No evening meals

Review 95:Copper field suite was very comfortable and great views. Staff were very attentive.

Review 96:Fantastic position overlooking bay and sea and genuinely unique historic place to stay,

Review 97:Very friendly staff. Wonderful location.

Review 98:car parking could be a problem but the staff have it all under control

Review 99:Comfort of room and friendliness helpful staff

Review 100:The hotel was very atmospheric and had a good feel about the place. The garden was lovely, along with the stunning the house itself.

Review 101:Noisy mini fridge. Noisy snoring from room next door.

Review 102:Comfortable bed.

Review 103:The hotel was so comfortable the staff lovely would highly recommend it. It was like stepping back in time, wonderful

Review 104:Very poor WiFi!

Review 105:The view and the histrionic building! Jeff the night porter was a great character! Overall the staff were very friendly and helpful!

Review 106:The friendly, helpful staff, always there, but not intrusive.

Review 107:No bad experiences. Car parking slightly problematical but only to be expected.

Review 108:The old-fashioned Englishness of everything.

Review 109:It was an awesome stay. The estate was magnificent. Loved the little pub and the breakfast room. Our room was plenty big comfortable and clean.

Review 110:The hotel was poor value, rooms cluttered and dingy, bathroom not well appointed and staff surly.

Review 111:Garden

Review 112:The view from the room was amazing and the staff excellent, a credit to the hotel

Review 113:Wifi connection was poor.

Review 114:Excellent location and lovely staff. Breakfast was very good.

Review 115:Loved it

Review 116:One wine out of stock

Review 117:Quirkiness

Review 126:Absolutely nothing

Review 127:Location, friendliness of the staff and a great breakfast
