The Barn Lodge

The Barn Lodge descritpion
The Barn Lodge rooms are converted barns consisting of 2 double rooms, 1 twin room and 4 family rooms which can either sleep 3 or 4 people, providing guests with comfortable centrally heated rooms with en-suite facilities. As our rooms are out with the house we are room only, no breakfast. There is a restaurant at the end of our driveway serving lunches and dinner.
The Barn Lodge has off street parking available for all guests. For your comfort, the premises are strictly Non-Smoking. The Barn Lodge is situated minutes from the Stirling motorway service station.
Ideally situated in central Scotland, Stirling gives easy access to the motorway links to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth and is an ideal starting position for visiting the Trossachs and the Highlands.
Given that the Barn Lodge accommodation only offers a room only facility, we are always asked where guests can get something to eat. Firstly, at the end of the driveway, just a few minutes walk away is the Pirnhall restaurant located next to the Travelodge, where breakfast is served every morning. They also serve nice lunches and dinner. All Barn Lodge guests are welcome to use the facilities.

The Pirnhall Restaurant, Bannockburn Road - at the entrance to the Barn Lodge.

Reviews for The Barn Lodge
Review 1:- Reasonably priced - Instant Hot Water - Central Heating - Hospitality Tray - Clean Bed Linen/Room - Hairdryer - Private En-Suite Room - not intrusive and very homely - We will stay here again
Review 2:A bit of a smell from the farm, but nothing extreme, and not noticeable in the rooms themselves.
Review 3:Run by really nice people, who didn't complain at all when we arrived after check-in. It's very well located for anyone wanting to visit Stirling, as it is on a farm just on the edge of town, so only a short drive to the center of Stirling. The rooms themselves are comfortable and roomy. Not luxurious, but a good place to stay.
Review 4:Everything seem ok, could do with better Internet access but liked it very much and will stay again
Review 5:Excellent location, pity about the weather, could do with couple of comfy chairs but apart form that very good value.
Review 6:we barn lodge as an over night stop before we carried on our journey to the top of Scotland, met by a nice man who showed us to our rooms, fantastic rooms, very clean with tea and coffee, shower and comfy beds! and so cheap!!!!
Review 7:Nothing. Please can you make available additional pillows - albeit we didn't ask for any. Perhaps you could put in a casual chair to sit on too which would be most useful.
Review 8:The room was large and spacious, well heated and clean. We were met on arrival and shown to it and informed of the requirements for departure which was good. Even my attempt at breaking the central heating settings was taken in good humour!
Review 9:Nice people very welcoming nice sized room great TV only thing I would improve is the duvet was a little too thin but that's all. Great location for stirling.
Review 10:Shower with no hot water. Bed is awful - if you run your hand over the mattress you can feel the springs protruding out. Mattress needed replacing a long time ago! Unless you like cold water and sleeping with springs digging into you...spend a few pounds more and stay at the Premier!! I am flabbergasted how this hotel gets the 8.2 rating - I travel at least twice a month, and have never stayed in a hotel where I think the Booking.com rating is drastically out - this is the first!
Review 11:Location is easy for access to highway
Review 12:The lodge is situated in the fields but is easily accessible by car, parking is free..The rooms were on the ground floor, en suite, comfortable if pretty simple. The host let us stay another night in a triple room for the price of a double when he heard of our problems with the car tyre.
Review 13:Very noisy within the building itself with other people shutting their doors, and chatting(we could hear other people's conversations). I'm sure others would have heard when one of my children woke most of the night site growing pains.Sorry! After reading previous reviews I packed extra pillows(these did come in handy). Main door is left open during the night. No main reception as such, chapped the main house of owners. No receipt given when I paid.
Review 14:Shown around property. We could all sleep in the one room. The room has a small fridge, which was good to store milk/yogurts for the children's breakfast the next day. Just off the main road, nose from outside minimal. Wi-Fi and good size tv.
Review 15:No chair or table.
Review 16:We had the twin room. Big room. Big closet, Lots of drawer space. Modern bath. Neighborhood laundry about 1 mile away. Good inexpensive restaurant in walking distance. We visited Sterling Castle but could also have visited Edinburgh from here.
Review 17:The pillows were very thin.
Review 18:The room was really big and clean, with a fridge and coffe&tea facilities. We also got a very friendly welcome. The surroundings are beautiful and the area is quiet, but close to the city by car. There is a bar on the other side of the street where you can have breakfast, dinner and drinks.
Review 19:The bathroom door was broken, the shower door didn't close all the way, the shower itself was broken but upon complaint we were told how to overcome the broken piece...very basic accommodations.
Review 20:Quiet lication
Review 21:Bed was a little uncomfortable.
Review 22:Friendly staff, basic room but tea/coffee making facilities were good. Location was quiet and handy for Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Review 23:Could do with extra pillows and somewhere to sit other than the bed. (Would love a bigger duvet too)
Review 24:Great location, particularly when dropping off/picking up at tea University. Comfortable and very reasonably priced. Jennifer, the owner is great.
Review 25:Our night at the Barn Lodge was undoubtably the worst of anywhere we've stayed. We were given a room in a shared house/block, not like the individual buildings shown in the pictures. The walls were paper thin and when some of the other guests returned at just after 1am in the morning, that was it for sleeping. The ensuing party, which included lots of very drunk people running up and down the stairs, shouting, screaming and slamming the front door every 5-10 minutes ("going for a fag!") carried on until well after 5am. We had hoped to see the owners in the morning (noting they don't live in the same building) to explain the issue and ask for a refund - all we payed for was a bed to sleep in - however we had to leave early and they were still asleep (just before 8am). We emailed later that day and were offered 20% back which in my opinion is an insult, as the owners should have known better than to put a crowd of young people in the same block as an older couple. Terrible night and poor excuses from the owners (and there were a lot of them) for not giving an appropriate refund for such an awful night.
Review 26:Nice warm welcome.
Review 27:We booked 3 rooms in all as we were 7 adults, a teenager and a 4year old - we had a quadruple room, a triple room and a double room. The rooms were spacious and clean, there was free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea facilities and a mini fridge. The owners were also very friendly and helpful. highly recommend.
Review 28:Nothing all facilities were with in the room and although there were no chairs inside the room we borrowed the garden chairs. Fine for our needs an no complaints.
Review 29:The freedom to do our own thing. Met by David a very nice young man who made us very welcome. The Barn was not including food. We were within walking distance of the town but as it was trying to rain we drove. A Premier Inn is at the end of the longish drive.
Review 30:However the hot water was not hot enough.
Review 31:The room was very clean and spacious. The towels were warm and the room heated.we also had very tasty chocolate biscuits.
Review 32:We visited with our 12yr old granddaughter and 7yr old great niece for a one night stay. We wished we had booked more nights. It was ideal as a base for many activities. The lodge could not have been better and we all just loved it. Will definitely be back for more visits.
Review 33:Electricity sockets for hairdryer etc too far away to be able to see in the mirror that was fixed to the wall
Review 34:Location - perfect for easy access to motorway
Review 35:Was very easy to find and got warmly welcomed on arrival then shown to a comfy twin share room. Very clean and fresh smelling sheets and towels. Great value.
Review 36:No hot water at 7am Tuesday morning. We were unable to shower.
Review 37:Staff were very friendly and helpful, called to amend my booking and everything was sorted.
Review 38:A little dissappointed that there was no hot water this morning, so I couldn't get a shower. Bed was a little lumpy.
Review 39:Friendly staff, very helpful, even when I had to change my booking.
Review 40:Would have loved a small table and an armchair in the room, but everyting was just fine as it was actually!
Review 41:Loved everything about our stay! The location of the Barn Lodge made it easy for us to access Stirling by buses X39 and 24, and the room was superfine! Loved that we could bring our own food to store in the refrigerator, and the room was clean. Enjoyed a great walk in the nearby area in stunning environment. We had a great dinner at the Pirnhall Inn, just a few meters from the Barn Lodge. Good wi-fi for free! Will definately come back!
Review 42:Nothing really, just a couple of little touches e.g. new toilet seat, brighter light bulbs etc
Review 43:Excellent basic accommodation. I does exactly what it says on the tin.
Review 44:Unfortunately the beds were not comfortable for us, I struggled to sleep on it and my husband suffered from a bad back the next day.
Review 45:Lovely large clean room with nice furniture and good location. Really like the place but unfortunately won't be staying again due to the bed issue. (might just be us!)
Review 46:No problems at all.
Review 47:A very friendly welcome with no problems accepting our dog into the room. Extremely clean and quiet in a close proximity to main roads.
Review 48:No breakfast. Nearby restaurant was shut down.
Review 49:Fantastic country setting and view. Rooms were little cute accommodations. View just outside the door was a field with flowers, cows and horses.
Review 50:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 51:Basic, but comfortable accommodation; welcoming and helpful hosts; a good location for sightseeing through southern Scotland
Review 52:Comfortable bed. Clean room. Nearby Brewer's Fayre restaurant. Very good value. A bit 'tired' in terms of decor. Fine for an overnight stay.
Review 53:We didn't have a bad experience really, the roller blind could be a bit better fit on the window as the outside light ( which stayed on all night) lit the room up. The extractor fan in the bathroom was a little noisy.
Review 54:It was easy to find. Lovely clean bed linen. Very friendly and helpful owner. Loved the very powerful hot shower. Extremely good value for money.
Review 55:The only negative was that the tray in our shower filled up quickly so that we had to turn off the water and let it drain in the middle of the shower. I'm sure it can be resolved though so not really a negative.
Review 56:We had a family room with a cot which was comfortable and roomy. The owner was lovely. Easy to get to off the main road with a pub chain across the street and a petrol station just down the road. Lovely stay.
Review 57:The rooms were nice and each had private thermostat for temperature control. Wifi was strong and quick. There was a nice horse in the field, we named him Jim. He likes carrots and cauliflower, but not broccoli.
Review 58:On a farm on the outskirts of town so very quiet and peaceful. Large carpeted sunny room with spacious bathroom. We had a ground floor room with kingsize bed plus a single (family room) - the bed was very comfortable with nice linen. Jennifer is friendly person and eager to please. She directed us to a local restaurant and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We enjoyed it so much have booked a return visit.
Review 59:Host is very friendly. Rooms are nice and clean. It was good to have facilities to make coffee and tea and even a small fridge, witch was very useful. The memorial of bannockburn battle is in walking distance.
Review 60:Nothing
Review 61:Easy to reach motorways and the surrounding area, also not far from Edinburgh and other attractions. Our room was well kitted out for a disabled person too.
Review 62:The farm itself is cute with a horse and cattle but there isn't much right around the road other than other motels, car dealership, etc. If you have a car, this is no problem because it's only 5-10 minutes drive to Waitrose for groceries or 10-15 min to city center where there are plenty of restaurants. If you are on foot or taking public transit, this would not be as good of location as with your own car.
Review 63:The price was very reasonable. The room was clean and spacious for three adults. There was a mini fridge in the closet, kettle and supplies for tea or instant coffee. The farm is very close to the M9 (although we couldn't hear any motorway noise) so it is so fast to get to different tourist sites. It is also just 15 minutes north on the same road to get to Stirling downtown area and the castle. One could easily stay here and travel by car to Edinburgh, Glasgow and most of southern Scotland. We saw Stirling and Doune castles and went on a boat ride on Loch Katrine (along with the 3 Loch Forrest Drive).
Review 64:Very helpful and friendly. Quiet clean room. Allowing pets helped us as we were leaving for a weeks self catering holiday immediately after our stay here
Review 65:We were expecting a self-catering unit with a kitchenette however there was only a fridge and kettle.
Review 66:It was very easily accessible and fairly quiet considering the number of units. The owners and staff were very friendly and the kids loved the farm animals.
Review 67:No such bad experience
Review 68:Beautiful location and the staff is very friendly. The room is very cosy even though its not super luxury and for sure is good value for money
Review 69:The pillows were very flat and the bed creaked when you moved. Also the bed side drawers were very dirty inside
Review 70:The Lady who ran the place was lovely. The facilities in the room were very good indeed and clean.
Review 71:Not really a major problem, but could have done with a small chair or two in the room. Just so you had somewhere to sit when relaxing, instead of on the bed. also, having 2 pillows would have been nice too.
Review 72:Second time we've stayed here as our son is at the University and it won't be the last. the owner, Jennifer, is so helpful and friendly. This time we had our dog with us and she recommend places to eat with him.
Review 73:The room was a good size with 2 single and 1 double bed,a fridge and tea making facilities, flatscreen TV and free Wifi. Our shower was a good size and had plenty of hot water. Brewers Fayre across the road.
Review 74:Limited facilities but at £40 per night that's fair enough.
Review 75:Literally half a mile of the motorway (next to Stirling Services). We used this as a stop off to somewhere further north - it was ideal. The owner was absolutely lovely. So helpful & friendly. We also brought our dog & they were completely accommodating.
Review 76:Unfortunately we had very noisy people staying upstairs who had no thoughts of other people apart from themselves. And thought it was okay to bang doors and arrive back at 3.40 am to wake us all up banging doors and falling upstairs. This is no fault of the owners as they have clearly put signs up asking people to respect others but some people just don't know the meaning.
Review 77:The lady who we met was very nice and very helpful. The room very really nice and very clean.
Review 78:The double bed needs changing it was old and loose and add 2 more pillows 1 is not enough. The parking lines are fading.
Review 79:The location, Room was clean and warm. The own is friendly and is a nice person. You feel welcome and wanted, which is good.
Review 80:Our stay was in winter and it took a long while for the rooms to warm up, but I guess that is to be expected in December.
Review 81:The owner was very friendly, and the rooms were clean and comfortable. A restaurant was right across the road, which was very convenient.
Review 82:Parking a bit restricted when full, We were downstairs and could hear upstairs if they weren't careful. Still didn't detract from our stay.
Review 83:Right by the motorway, short distance to field of Bannockburn. Quick trip into Stifling Town. Kettle & drinks supplied, really good shower.largish room. Excellent value for money, met by friendly owner on arrival.
Review 84:Nice little farm accommodation with helpful husband /wife team. Close to local food outlet and excellent access to local roads & scenic parts of Stirling.
Review 85:Wi-fi practically did not work the whole time. The room was a bit noisy, we could hear the noises made by other guests as they got up early in the morning.
Review 86:The host was lovely, kind and ready to help. No breakfast included but possibility to order it from a nearby bar. Very spacious room
Review 87:Weak wifi signal
Review 88:Far enough off the main thoroughfare for peace and quiet but still close to restaurants. Spacious rooms, comfortable beds, excellent service. No frills but that's one of the reasons we chose it.
Review 89:The building has poor sound insulation -- I was woken abruptly at 4 am when someone upstairs dropped a heavy object on the floor above!
Review 90:Owners are making a genuine effort. They have even arranged for breakfast to be delivered to your bedroom door by some local entrepreneur.
Review 91:internet connection not great- when one person was using it the signal wasn't strong enough for anther user. No chairs in the room so we had to sit on the bed.
Review 92:Good location to A9 for travelling decent sized room
Review 93:Bed frame was broken and noisey, the pillows and mattresses need replacement. The same comment I give all B&B...no place to store suitcases, not enough towel racks or places to hang coats, towels, clothing.
Review 94:Location
Review 95:The beds could do with a mattress topper to soften the feeling of the springs. The wooden slats on the beds needed attention as every time anyone turned over the beds made an awful squeak which woke the whole family throughout the night (& possibly the people in the room below?). Did point this out to the owner in the morning who said he would fix it.
Review 96:The room was spacious and had everything we needed.
Review 97:The car parking area could possibly be improved and more clearly defined
Review 98:Good location...nice horse...a good nights sleep...ideal for our one night stay
Review 99:cons- if you stay in the downstairs rooms you might be experience lot of noise from the upstair room.
Review 100:Notice.They dont provide breakfast although they can ordered for you and deliver it to your room. pros- very friendly staff, they have late check in (8 pm), the location is between a farm (so quiet), can pay by card.
Review 101:Hard to find. Parking difficult with workmen all the time. Isolated location and nothing like the sales pitch as room not in croft as sold to us.
Review 102:Not a lot
Review 103:I did not complain at the time because I had 3g connectivity but the wi fi in the room was not working. I have no doubt it would have been fixed if it had been an issue for us and I had bought it to the attention of the owner.
Review 104:The reception and help we received in making sure our trip for the Ryder Cup went smoothly was simply down to the owner. Her help was above and beyond what we would have expected.
Review 105:No Chairs I need to put my legs up because of poor circulation! so at least one chair would have made a lot of difference! The carpet was not cleaned where the Builders had made a mess the whole time we were there!
Review 106:Comfortable Bed
Review 107:It was quite noisy, but mainly because the other guests did not seem to know how to hold a door when you close it. When you don't have a car with you, it is too far from the city centre.
Review 108:Room was nice enough, clean and spacious enough. Enough parking space outside. Good shower and bathroom facilities.
Review 109:No clear signs for a reception. Greeted by a guy who didn't know what he was doing and screaming kids. Front door doesn't get locked so felt unsafe. Bed covers out of date. Badly run. Had confirmed a late checkout with booking.com but owner didn't know about this.
Review 110:Location was good for where we needed it to be.
Review 111:Very noisy, doors make too much noise, you can hear the upstairs guests walking and talking. Needs to work on soundproof rooms.
Review 112:Facilities are very good and comfortable.
Review 113:Minor thing - our room door rattled when the outer door was opened/closed.
Review 114:We stayed at Barn Lodge when taking our son to University. The room was clean and spacious. Towels changed and welcome tray replenished every day. Owner was lovely - offering me wine and time out space when I was upset after my son went off. (I didn't need them, but the offer was lovely). Walking distance of a good pub/restaurant & a great base for touring the area. We WILL be back!!
Review 115:I had a great visit at the barn lodge and the room was very nice. The owners were also extremely nice and helpful and made my stay in Stirling very nice. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone.
Review 116:nothing to report on this ...............................................................................................................
Review 117:Provided all that we needed clean comfortable helpful staff available on site . ........................................................................................
Review 118:Very poor sound insulation between the ground and first floor, so we could almost hear everything the people above us said, and hear every movement they made. The Wi-Fi worked for 10 minutes and then cut out for the rest of the evening, although it was working fine the next morning.
Review 119:Good value for money if all you want is a room for the night. Clean room, good size shower room.
Review 120:Stayed in room 1 on ground floor and when people came in through the main door the door shook and sounded if someone was coming in also people upstairs woke us up just by walking around. Wouldnt put me off staying again though.
Review 121:Great location just a few miles outside Stirling Centre. Right opposite Premier Inn where you can get a brill breakfast and Meals plus a play park for kids. Public transport by bus outside the Barn Lodge. Easy links to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Kids can play outside safely. Nice to wake up with fields and horses outside your window. Defo stay again. Owners very helpfull and friendly.
Review 122:Totally a personal preference but a wee extra pillow would have been ideal
Review 123:It was the perfect base for day trips out with the wee one. Having a fridge was excellent for the picnic stuff and milk for the wee one.
Review 124:No breakfast option.
Review 125:Very personable & welcoming owner. Great value for money. Quiet, having easy access to major roads nearby. Close to Stirling.
Review 126:Shower switch hidden behind T.V.
Review 127:Well located for Stirling attractions & Falkirk Wheel. Value for money. All you really need was available in room.
Review 128:The Wi-Fi did not work.
Review 129:The room was very comfortable and clean. No stairs to climb and space to park directli infront of the the room, which was very helpful, since I am disabled.
Review 130:Not a dislike per se but would suggest availability of pre-packed continental style breakfast option would be attractive to travellers en route
Review 131:The helpful and friendly family run accommodation offering privacy in a rural setting
Review 132:No one in when arrived had to phone for someone to let us in...this costing us more on taxi's...on departure had to go looking for someone again to hand in keys...a game of hide and seek thought they days were long gone.
Review 133:not alot
Review 134:A towel rail or hook or shelf in bathroom would have been good. Also better lighting would have helped.
Review 135:It was cheap and comfortable for a night stop over on way to Edinburgh. We were returning our car to Edinburgh airport the following morning so very convenient.
