Reviews for Gunwharf Quays Waterfront
Review 1:Telly on the small side and the bed was not the comfiest.
Review 2:Location is perfect. You couldn't be closer to everything at Gunwharf. Free wifi. Small welcome hamper of milk etc.
Review 3:No one showed us how to use the heating so we were quite cold overnight- the only complaint.
Review 4:Lovely apartment and friendly welcoming Rep on arrival. Perfect location and facilities.
Review 5:We had to be move to a "better" room due to over booking. We booked an apartment with as balcony for a reason, it was to late to book anywhere else, in my option the room was not better, i booked what i wanted and did not get it. to add insult we where asked not to use the whole apartment we were moved to because it was bigger, if we did use it we would be charged more!. The Hot water ran out after one half filled bath, the Wifi did not work. I would not book again. I have also noticed that if you mark the lowest score possible, its will sow as a rating of 2.5 and not 1 or 0, odd...
Review 6:The location was great, but we knew that when booking.
Review 7:Very expensive for what it was. The apartment we got looked on to the roof of the buildings below and other buildings. Nothing like the view show on the website.
Review 8:Location
Review 9:the handling agent. Did not call us as promised to let us know when the apartment was ready to check in. We had to call them. Forgot to send us as promised the code for wifi. Knocked on the door and said they'd forgotten to tell someone to clean our apartment. . Not much else they had to get right really. Also due to our Sat Nav malfunctioning we called for directions. We were already in Portsmouth and as it transpired only 3 mins from the property, but the person was not familiar with the main road we were on. Would have been useful if they had local knowledge
Review 10:The best location. The front desk staff at the property were very helpful
Review 11:There was nothing I didn't like absolutely amazing place
Review 12:The gentleman that escorted me to my room very friendly named Mathew , felt like I was living in my own house definitely staying there again
Review 13:expensive. Had to be out by 11am. a Lot of shops dont open till 10 but had to remove car from parking despite paying extra for the parking. Room way too hot with no obvious temperature control. Looks out onto noisy busy railway line.
Review 14:location very good
Review 15:The apartment is noisy ONLY if you sleep with window open (which we did!) - the trains are busy most of the time, and in particular early morning - shades of Thomas the Tank Engine - with lots of brake squeeling as the trains slow down into Portsmouth Harbour Stn. If you keep window shut - not a noise problem.
Review 16:Great location for Gunwharf Quays and central Portsmouth. Well equipped little apartment. Instructions would help if it said that front door opposite Tesco Express!
Review 17:Outside the window are bright security lights on all night and the apartment has rubbish blinds with huge gap at the top and bottom which means it is bright as daylight ALL NIGHT in both bedrooms. Bizarre system on arrival and checking in with lots of phone calls which does not feel like a hotel but as if you are in staying in some ones flat for a night.
Review 18:The location is really great. The apartment was good for a family
Review 19:The only things that let this apartment down was in the Kitchen area: please leave guests a tea towel to dry their dishes, if it is being let for 2 nights, then leave 2 dishwashing tablets. Cooking utensils are very limited, and staff must be aware of that leaky, noisy kitchen tap!
Review 20:Its location and views were amazing.
Review 21:The apartment was a little tired and in need of some maintainance. The cloth wrapped around the kitchen tap is not an ideal temporary fix. No sky TV although it was advertised as having it.
Review 22:Loved the location and the view. Nice and spacious and nice to be able to go out in the evening and not return to a small hotel room.
Review 23:Didn't like the fact we checked it late, also the apartment was very noisy..room was very cold
Review 24:Location was fantastic, right in the centre of gunwharf
Review 25:The apartment was not ready when we arrived at the check-in time of 3pm. The guy who was supposed to meet us wasn't there. The room was finally ready by 4pm and we were given a larger apartment as an apology.
Review 26:Lovely view from the apartment. The Concierge (Barry) was brilliant. So helpful getting us a taxi and recommending a great breakfast place. Also, he helped us get into the car park and the foyer, even though that wasn't his responsibility.
Review 27:cost/benefit is not good at all. Price is high for what they offer. Its not a hotel and there is no view on the sea either. It was a bad adversiting and we felt tricked.
Review 28:I dont think I apply to say what it is good or not good, because I was looking for a hotel what it was mentioned on the website and actually it is an appartement house.
Review 29:No curtain or blinds in the lounge where the sofa bed was located. Broken wash basin in the bathroom, which was supposed to have been repaired the following day and was not
Review 30:Location is great
Review 31:Hot water in the shower and bath ran out after 3 minutes. Heating was complicated and wasn't explained to us. When we asked the concierge, they didn't know how it worked.
Review 32:Friendly guy showed us to our apartment, beautiful apartment and amazing views.
Review 33:Although it was lovely and toasty in the apartment, the heating wasn't straight forward to control so it was a bit too hot as we slept. Having said this , the rep who welcomed us was so lovely and did show us how to control the temp, it just didn't 'do what it said on the tin' so to speak. Was probably me so this isn't a negative!
Review 34:Just perfect :) we loved the location, style, cleanliness, view and high standard of the apartment. My brother lives in the roundhouse nextdoor so location was perfect. The staff were excellent - so friendly and accommodating. The provisions/ services inside apartment were spot on and complimentary drinks made us feel very valued and cared for - a nice unexpected surprise/ gesture of going above an beyond. We loved how modern the space was and the more upmarket vibe. We will definitely be staying there again :)
Review 35:would suggest mattress needs replacing as very uncomfortable. Would suggest maintenance is required on sink in bathroom as it was coming away from the wall. I would also suggest that checkin process is looked at as had to sit outside parking building double parked as we struggled to make contact with staff to allow access to secure parking
Review 36:location and friendly staff
Review 37:We could hear the trains at night and there were quite a few! I did not do the research and did not realise it was only a double bed which we found small but this was our fault no one else's!
Review 38:Great location ideal for shopping and eating out at night providing you are happy to eat in chain restaurants Nicely appointed and nice lady who explained about the property to us and met us
Review 39:Three things: 1. It was cold. The heatiing wasn't on. (Notice that others have mentioned this) When someone came to fix it, nothing happened. We stayed under the duvet on the sofa all eve. For £150? 2. It was noisey. Revellers coming out of clubs midnight, 2 am, 4 am; you hear everything 3. If you come for the spectacular sea view, be aware that this apartment is at the back, not the front. You get a partial side view of the end of the estuary; certainly not the sea There is a premier inn at southsea with heat, quiet, sea view. Probably quite a lot cheaper
Review 40:Hard to check in. Phone number provided when asked to telephone to provide time of check in was for housekeeping and not reception. We found a number of silverfish in bathroom coming out of closet where boiler was kept.
Review 41:Close to shopping and restaurants. Really good location to explore Portsmouth and the naval ships.
Review 42:Little touches missing. 2 teabags, 2 sachets of coffee, 2 bottles water and 2 cans soft drink could be improved. Someone came in to make bed but did not clean anything else, ie bathroom, kitchen area.
Review 43:The situation and individuality of property was good, space sufficient for our needs.
Review 44:Total lack of attention to detail within the apartment.Furnished in a very basic way. For example no toilet roll holders or towel rails in bathrooms. No where to hang clothes in second bedroom, not even a hook on the back of the door. No mirrors except in bathrooms (where do you use the hairdryer?). No curtains in lounge and just simple blinds in bedrooms however curtain pole still there. No heating unless arranged with Manager to switch on. No satelitte TV. No sign of washing machine.
Review 45:Excellent location. Good secure parking. General high standard of building but only basic facilities within the apartment.
Review 46:The members of staff were very helpful, particularly both concierges. We can also recommend breakfast at The Old Customs House next to the Marina, a very short walk from the accommodation.
Review 47:No cleaning Service in the bathroom. Only beds were made
Review 48:Excellent Location good convenient Parking But expensive. Modern designed Apartment. Very friendly owner.
Review 49:The low quality link sprung mattress on the 4' 6" bed was inadequate. One of us slept on the sofa because both in the bed we could feel every movement of the other. We are average height and weight but this bed must be upgraded to support the price charged and enable a decent night sleep. Also the basin unit was wall mounted but coming away from the wall. It needs to be reattached securely. It was clean on the whole but some dusty corners such as skirting and bottom of shower screen. There is not space for the free standing mirror in the bedroom, it has to be stepped over to walk round the bed. A wall mirror would be more suitable to the space.
Review 50:Compact. Located near restaurants.
Review 51:Bad experience in getting into apartments. Sent instructions aboutarrival, by text, when we were on Brittany ferry. My phone crashed whenon boat so didn't get them. We were meant to phone Matthew.Concierge very obstructive with us and also a Japanese couple who hadleft their luggage earlier. Matthew arrived eventually and was veryapologetic. New night time concierge and not really the right type. Inspite of this,we would stay there again!
Review 52:Location was great with designer shops in the mall. Coffee shops andmany restaurants just nearby plus Tesco Express for s-catering Stationclose by. Will be back!
Review 53:--Be aware of Extra Charge , ----Cot 25,Parking 25 (was told tobe 18) ----No Seaview (i.e. at patio you can see top of ship) ----Can feel Spring under Mattress ----This is not a proper hotel but more like serviced apartment ----Limited communication (I called on the day to get the address) ----Don't feel duvet was properly cleaned, can smell perfume from other people.
Review 54:Nothing
Review 55:At night it was very noisy, we were placed next to or near the train station. The fan we had in the room didn't work. The sky didn't work, the bed was broken so the slightest movement and it would come away from the wall.
Review 56:The staff were very helpful, the apartment was very nice and spacious.
Review 57:The owner was tricking us into giving him money. We booked one night for three (one child). When we checked in, he said we only booked for two. Then, he did not let us know that he charged much much more without telling us. Even worse, we had a place to park the car. But he offered his parking place to us without telling us he would charge us for parking. All these ended up as an extra 100 pounds. We do feel this is like a robbery. Please avoid this guy.
Review 58:The flat was less than the advertised 30sq.m., the bathroom had no towel rails or a soap holder and toiletries were not replaced daily. Daily service was poor and by the end of the 5th day the flat was not as clean as it should be. Very limited closet space. The satelite TV was not working properly - only Freeview channels were available. Kitchen tap was broken and even though they said they would fix it, they did not.
Review 59:Excellent location, good views, easy access to bus and train, shops and restaurants all around, yet quiet.
Review 60:This is not a criticism but would be a "a nice to have". A little note giving the Wifi and code and also instructions on the use of the hot plate. I was trying to make breakfast very early and couldn't work it and didn't like to ring any one as it was before 7 a.m.
Review 61:Much better than staying in a hotel. Staff extremely friendly and helpful. I couldn't have asked for more.
Review 62:Location great, Private Parking good, Manager (very nice and helpful) met us at car park to give keys and show us to room, they text a new post code that takes you right to the door of the car park you then phone to tell them you have arrived and they send someone down. They made it very easy. Concierge was really nice and helpful.
Review 63:As with all city hotels, it was very noisy. Mainly due to the works being carried out on the railway line which our room looked out over. It was also quite pricey considering it was self catering.
Review 64:The welcome and service we received on arrival was excellent. The apartment was very nice and the hotel was in an excellent location
Review 65:The apartments were impeccably clean and in a great location. Matthew who was in charge of our booking was very corteous and was there to help if needed.
Review 66:It took us three hours to get into the property. No concierge and the telephone number left on the door was wrong. The apartment wasn't that clean with quite a bit of dust.
Review 67:Location was excellent.
Review 68:Sparse décor, very bijou compared to other Booking.com apartments we have stayed in - also expensive in comparison. Emails and texts to accommodation staff were not answered the day before. Checkin info finally arrived at 1000 on the day, but to be honest check-in arrangements really need to arrive the day before to put mind at rest. Very friendly check-in staff member when we did arrive.
Review 69:Location is brilliant. Car parking good.
Review 70:The location was excellent and right in the centre of the area with good views. The facilities were excellent and well maintained. We were very well looked after by our host who made us feel very welcome
Review 71:Where to start... When we arrived we couldn't access the building. There was no way for us to contact anyone. I waited 10 minutes before anyone finally came to let us in. We were shown to our room. It was clear this wasn't a hotel as residents of the building complained the owner does this all the time. After the owner left we realised there was no sort of welcome pack or guidance. The full sky package sold to us was simply channels one to five with the other channels saying insert viewing card. The free wifi was a rooter on the wall. The details on it were incorrect and we so we had no wifi. The tap in the kitchen leaked when you turned it on and sprayed all over the kitchen side. In one corner of the room there was damp or a leak from upstairs. Finally on the booking.com I requested late check out which was granted. However, the owner asked me to text him the day we were leaving to remind him we wanted a late check out. He also claimed to try to text me using the booking.com number which was my correct number although I never received any messages.
Review 72:It was a very modern apartment in good location.
Review 73:If I had to super picky I would say the lack of curtains in the lounge would be my only dislike.
Review 74:Both my partner and I stayed for initially one night but asked to make it two immediately as we arrived and saw the appartment. The room felt like a home from home and having all anenities available was great. The staff where outstanding and very helpful. We will be returning to Portsmouth and most defiantly staying in the hotel again. Fantastic
Review 75:No info in condo for internet access, it was to late to call for info from landlord. No air conditioning. Only had warm water late at night, not when I needed it before dinner and next morning. Very warm and fan made a noise when turned on but did not blow. Did not represent what I read and saw on line. Staff and manager were very nice.
Review 76:Location.
Review 77:Booked for two nights, but when we arrived the apartment we were allocated was on the second floor, without a nice view. Lots of lights outside made it difficult to sleep.
Review 78:After complaining we were moved to a better apt.on the ninth floor and some nice views.
Review 79:Outrageously over priced apartment with NO air conditioning and NO cross-ventilitation. Unbearably hot in June. Perhaps the worst placed I have ever stayed in the UK!
Review 80:Excellent location with very helpful concierge.
Review 81:Soundproofing good in studio apt with city view so would be ok if temp. not warm enough to want to open window. Fan provided but with window open railway track very noisy. Would try apt with sea view if we stayed again. Price & size of studio not good enough to make it a better alternative to the Holiday Inn for a one night stay.
Review 82:Secure car park: location both for Gunwharf Quays and ferry terminal: welcome from Matthew who explained how everything worked etc.
Review 83:Bed - very uncomfortable could feel springs in mattress. Toilet seat kept coming loose. Very noisey from trains as had to sleep with window open as very warm nights.
Review 84:View and central lpcation
Review 85:Nothing!
Review 86:Breakfast the following morning was fantastic. Everything about the studio flat was excellent! Was staying for one day on our wedding night and only regret was that we didn't book more nights! Staff was friendly too!
Review 87:Smelly corridors from the lift to the room, dirty bathroom with black mould! Dirty marked pillowcases. Dirty kitchen area and fridge not working, no code for the wi fi , expensive room that over promised and under delivered
Review 88:Only the location.
Review 89:Bed was a little too firm for me although my son liked it.
Review 90:Location is perfect, short walk from Portsmouth Harbour train station. Next large retail shopping centre. Friendly staff.
Review 91:The finish of the apartment we stayed in was not to a very high standard. Superficially it looks great when you first enter, but on closer inspection the quality is not great. The shower was a dribble, and every time you used hot water a loud pump kicked in that sounded like someone was using a tumble dryer in the apartment next door. This place is selling itself as a 5*+ facility. It is not. Never again.
Review 92:This apartment block has a great location. It is 5 minutes from the Maritime museum and close to shopping and restaurants.
Review 93:Thought this was a hotel but is in fact private apartments and when we arrived at 14.30 to check in we could not get in the building . Checked in at 15.00 as on the info from Booking .com and Concierge was there to let us in.
Review 94:Very central position for everything and Tesco Express opposite for all you food needs. Also free soft drinks supplied in fridge along with water. Fast Wi-Fi with code on router and Full Sky package fantastic.
Review 95:Couldn't open the windows because of the noise from the railway below.
Review 96:The fantastic views The facility's in the apartment and all so clean, complimentary tea, coffee even in the fridge fresh milk and a selection of soft drinks. Near the shops and restaurants.
Review 97:It was extremely hot in the Appartment! No air con or fan!
Review 98:Superb area, great shops, bars, restaurants. Ideal location for very getting around to see the sites,
Review 99:They took everything into consideration when designing the apartments which are ideal for families or couples. Clean, beautiful and superb finishing touches! Matthew and his team were amazing. Nothing was a problem, very friendly and happy. Great team of people in a great place
Review 100:The owner of the flat only communicates a couple of hours before you are due to arrive how to get to the flat, we tried to contact them the day before as did bookings.com but they would not give out an email address and the phone line was constantly engaged, this was very annoying. The railway line was very close to the apartment and was very noisy all day and early in the morning! as it was warm we had to keep the windows open.
Review 101:The location was wonderful and the views were good.
Review 102:Locating the way in to the building and car park. don't follow sat nav
Review 103:This was a great location, privately owned flat. easy distance to bars and the historic navel yards.
Review 104:about 3 times the cost of similar apartment anywhere else in the country. no wifi. no blinds on any windows so sleeping was a challenge and with large patio doors at street level no privacy in lounge area.
Review 105:location was good.
Review 106:After a stressful day being left without accommodation we made this booking very late arriving after midnight. The concierge could not have been kinder. Seeing two weary stressed ladies he went out of his way to ensure we were ok and desrves a medal. The facilities are lovely, the bed was lovely only downside was average wifi but otherwise no complaints
Review 107:Check-in time was stated as 3pm but the apartment wasn't ready until approximately an hour later. It didn't cause us a problem but nevertheless you would expect more at this price. Although we were able to get a wifi signal we couldn't connect the whole time we were in the apartment - it seemed to be a BT hot spot rather than private wifi. I think it was rather pushing it to say a 'sea view', yes you could just about see the sea if you went outside and looked to your right in the distance but the real view you had was the ferries coming in and out from the IOW. They created a lot of noise and it was even quite noisy through the night.
Review 108:This apartment is in a location that you couldn't beat beat. It is very nice and comfortable with two bedrooms, one with en-suite, a lounge/diner, kitchen and separate shower room.
Review 109:Maybe it started going wrong, when I arrived at the reception. The receptionist acted slightly annoyed, shrugged shoulders and said 'oh, another of these booking.com guests...' He had to call the owner of the apartment, who then would pick me up. The apartment was stylish but when opening cupboards and drawers, there was basically nothing with regards to how pricy it was. Couldn't make a cup of tea/coffee, but had to go to a local shop first. Half a roll of toilet paper in a drawer. Shower was impossible to figure out without instruction. Password to wireless net was not given. Will go for something else next time.
Review 110:Cleanliness of apartment. No curtain in lounge area. Fan and lights not working in main bathroom. No bulbs in lamps in the bedrooms. No sea view as advertised. Fan not working in the on-suite.
Review 111:The fact that the shops and restaurants are on your doorstep.
Review 112:Location was awesome, and clean.
Review 113:helpfull staff
Review 114:The trains are quite noisy.
Review 115:Great for Gun Wharf Quay and a view - although Gosport is not the most lovely of places.
Review 116:Bed uncomfortable and far to small.
Review 117:Location ok
Review 118:Don't order breakfast just get what you want from Tesco down below and cook it.
Review 119:The location and the up market nature of the place.
Review 120:Brilliant location near shops and restaurants Security guard at front desk very helpful
Review 121:We asked for a room on a high floor and because none were available we got a free upgrade to need our request
Review 122:lack of kitchen utensils , no wi fi as advertised
Review 123:nice and spacious
Review 124:Good location & staff very good
Review 125:Very Convenient for Central Portsmouth, and a Great View of the Dockyard.
Review 126:Great location, Matthew was very helpful and welcoming.
Review 127:Courteous staff to greet you on arrival
Review 128:Very central for shops and historic docks etc
Review 129:Matthew was very accommodating, excellent view. Would recommend :)
Review 130:The location was excellent and the apartment was lovely with a sea view. The Staff were very helpful.
Review 131:We would have liked a bigger bed
Review 132:Great location near The Historic Portsmouth Harbour and also shops and restaurants. Good facilities.
