Reviews for The St Ives Bay Hotel

Review 1:Noisy room, infested with flies. Abrupt staff. Overall a run down shabby hotel charging boutique prices and there was certainly nothing boutique like about this place. Had to pay extra for parking. Certainly will not be staying again.

Review 2:Location is fabulous and breakfast was average!

Review 3:Unfortunately room was bland. Shower didn't work properly and bathroom dirty. The whole hotel needs a paint and refurbish. A bit fawlty towers tbh. Bar staff were rude and desperate to close by 10.30pm.Breakfast was more of a childs portion. We were only here one night but wont stay again.

Review 4:The location was good.

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:We have just come back from our three-night stay at St lves Bay Hotel. We booked two double rooms on this occasion. My 90 years old mother-in-law stayed at this hotel for her honeymoon 67 years ago and insisted she must book for it when she re-visit St Ives after so many years. We were all very pleased with our stay. Although the hotel at the moment does not have disabled facilities and one needs to walk 10 steps to access to the entrance, they do have a lift to access to upper floors. What impressed us most was the cleanliness of the hotel and the outstanding service we received during our stay. Particularly on the night my mother-in-law did not feel well the on duty night guard was most helpful to us. The waitress Eva from Hungary was very sensitive and supportive to the needs of my elderly mother-in-law. The manager was a very kind gentleman. Not only was he very informative to my enquiries, he always made time chatting to his clients. Both breakfast and dinner were very good with plenty of choices. We had a lovely stay and thanks again for the charming service.

Review 7:Guest info says bar is open until 1130 but when we arrived back at 1055 we were told we couldn't get a drink so missed out on our night cap. Parking is limited.

Review 8:Amazing location, very helpful staff and a comfortable bed. Sea view is definitely worth it.

Review 9:The bedroom walls and carpet were very dusty. The Wife had an asthma attack during the night. The window was cracked and judging by the signs of the dirt in the crack it had been cracked for some considerable time. The bathroom was showing signs of age, the paint on the walls was flaking off, the mastic sealant around the bath was hanging off in strips. We didn't get much sleep as every floorboard in the hotel creaked. When the person in the adjacent room walked about the floorboards in our room also creaked. We had such a bad night in a dusty dismal room that we checked out early before breakfast!!

Review 10:The location of the hotel.

Review 11:We wanted to eat in the hotel. Restaurant only catered for elderly coach parties. No a-la-carte food available just a bland, basic set menu like school dinners. It was really complicated just to get something to eat, and the food we did get was really uninspiring. Our room was really basic too, cold and clinical.

Review 12:Good location. Lovely bar lounge area with sea view

Review 13:Had to hand in key each time you left the hotel and one morning I had to wait almost 15 minutes before a member of staff returned to the Reception Desk.

Review 14:Beautiful location overlooking Carbis Bay. Friendly staff, very helpful and happy to answer questions about directions, things to see, etc.

Review 15:the bedroom was two flights up (no lifts on this side of the hotel) Several flights of stairs needed to be negotiated. The door to the bedroom could be opened when the fire door to the staircase was closed!.The en-suite shower room was little larger than a cupboard.

Review 16:the staff were friendly and almost apologetic for the poor service available

Review 17:Breakfast appeared to be preplated and held under a hotlamp.catering for large coach parties rather than individual travellers. Half the bed was extremley soft.

Review 18:Location was excellent. The staff are friendly and room was clean.

Review 19:Rooms very poor. Very small little room to move terribale ventilation felt like in a sauna most of night extreamly uncomfortable. Spoilt our week away on last night staying there. Plus had to pay to park which not srated when booking very dissapointed.

Review 20:Very little

Review 21:costs £7.5 /day to park in railway station leave car early ok late no spaces Poky dingy room option to upgrade £20+ each rip off Full of old people on Shearings coach tours (they own hotel chain)

Review 22:2mins from Porthminster beach

Review 23:No lift for our section. Had to carry 50kg bags up 2 flights of stairs. Also the Paeking I had booked before travel and was told secure turned out not to be the case. From discussing with the receptionist, the records of who had vacated their packing spaces hadn't been updated for 2 days so there was no way of telling if my space was free or not!

Review 24:Overlooked the sea but then my room didnt. Rather was overlooked by other hotel windows

Review 25:Breakfast was very sad and poorly presented. The quality of the food was almost inedible. Female front desk manager was rude, impersonal, unwilling to assist us.

Review 26:Konrad - the young man from Poland -at the front desk was very helpful. Young man from Poland was gracious, informative and very helpful.

Review 27:The room we were first given was shockingly awful. Not dirty, but terrible condition, very uncomfortable bed, horrid bathroom (clean, but very poor state of repair). Very thin curtains with a street light immediately outside on the street. We asked that night to be moved to a refurbished room, but the staff, although pleasant, were slightly inept and unhelpful on that first night. I was appalled at having to pay up front on arrival, and then being charged the same amount for such a horrid room as people were for a refurbished room. We did get to move for the second and third night of our stay, and were put into a twin room, which was far nicer, newly refurbished. The bathroom still needed updating, but at least the room was better. Although the mattress on one of the beds wasn't great - sloped to one side and needed propping. The hotel is in need of some help.

Review 28:The location is excellent, short walk to the centre of St. Ives, easy car park (we weren't able to get into the hotel car park - you have to book this far in advance!! But we were able to get into the local car park which is not pricey). Also close to the train station, so St. Erst/Penzance is not too far.

Review 29:Whilst our room was clean, we were put in a small back room overlooking a back yard when I suspect nicer rooms may have been available. Gets an award for the smallest fried breakfast ever. We felt we got the coach party menu, yet were not on their package and sat separately.

Review 30:Central location, friendly staff, with parking nearby at a charge of £5. Not sure if there would be space high season as located in a garage which is for sale.

Review 31:we were not allowed to sit by the window for breakfast even though there were free tables everywhere- it doesn't make sense to customers to be restricted that way- a bit treated like children!! the room was clean enough to stay in but the bird poo marks on the windows and the badly maintain windows did not impress. It was difficult to connect to wifi. The phones between rooms DID not work and as vodafone has little to 0 reception in the hotel we could not speak to our friends at the ohter side of the hotel

Review 32:The garage parking the car - had to get 3 car washes to clean my car after leaving it in there 1 night! being screamed to by a rude holiday-maker, no help with luggage wifi was horrific - non existent so couldn't do ANY work whilst i was there and resorted to changing hotel with also paying for the 2nd night without me being there! rude and ignorant staff who made me feel like i was a problem to be there.

Review 33:We loved St Ives, the location, but will NEVER stay in this hotel again.

Review 34:The banging of the fire doors throughout the night & first thing in the morning!!!!! Breakfast looked as if it had been cooked hours before we ate it & we were down by 9am.

Review 35:The sea view from our room.

Review 36:So disappointed with our stay in this hotel. It badly needs A LOT of TLC. Everything in our room was tired and worn out. Lumpy bed, cheap furnishings, basic, dull facilities. Every area of the floor creaked loudly (as did the floor in the room above - grrrr!).

Review 37:The receptionist was the only positive thing that I have to report about our stay.

Review 38:didnt like the small one hour breakfast window caused congestion in dining area and inability of staff to keep buffet table topped up with fruit and juices etc

Review 39:location,cleanliness,staff,comfort.

Review 40:Lack of entertainment on Friday night. Car parking. Price paid by us when compared with other residents. Lack of room with sea view although it's call bay view hotel.

Review 41:Hotel location, breakfast and service at the bar. Staff very helpful and pleasant.

Review 42:poor tv signal, no signal for wifi, poor choice and size of breakfast, paying £7.50 per day to park car in train station car park., having to ask to have your bed linen changed this should be done automatically

Review 43:location of st ives

Review 44:There are no comments available for this review

Review 45:No parking Needs some TLC Dated and could be cleaner

Review 46:Location was OK

Review 47:The rest of the hotel which was stuck in the 1940s! Our room didn't even have a shower.

Review 48:The lounge area which had been refurbished

Review 49:Room is a bit small and breakfast portion is small.

Review 50:The location and the view is excellent!!

Review 51:The bed was small and uncomfortable and room was very warm with very little ventilation

Review 52:Location, staff and overall service was excellent

Review 53:Everything else!

Review 54:The view.

Review 55:I believed the hotel was not full at the time. We reserved 3 rooms but none of us had the sea view, very disappointed,

Review 56:Right in the heart of St Ives.

Review 57:Noisy room ,no wi fi ,un helpful staff, torn and worn towels ,breakfast very ordinary .

Review 58:Location. ,view from outside hotel frontage amazing .

Review 59:No up grade

Review 60:view from lounge and near train sta

Review 61:There were no late check-out policy. The staff was rude when being asked about it.

Review 62:Great location

Review 63:The floors didn't half creak

Review 64:The view, the cleanliness, the feel of the hotel was lovely

Review 65:No bad experience, just a shame there was no hair dryer in the room.
