Reviews for Clow Beck House
Review 1:David & Heather were very welcoming, and sitting in their beautiful lounge with the fire burning was just what we needed on a cold wet evening. The bedroom was very relaxing, partly due to its large size which accommodated a sofa, and was individually decorated & very well appointed. The breakfast, which sadly was all we had time for, was scrumptious, and there was an enormous Christmas tree, exquisitely decorated, in the dining room. All of the buildings and garden were immaculately maintained. I would have to go a long way to find as wonderful accommodation elsewhere.
Review 2:Welcoming hosts who want your stay to be as relaxing and comfortable as they can make it. Top notch food from local providers, cooked to perfection. Excellent facilities and accommodation.
Review 3:Noisy fridge in the room but it can be switched off !
Review 4:This is just the most comfortable experience in a delightful location. The food is superb and the hosts know their role to perfection. Enjoy !

Review 8:nothing!

Review 10:Having to leave
Review 11:Absolutely everything!! My boyfriend and I travel a lot and this is quite possibly one of the best hotels we've stayed in. Our room was super comfy and cosy with lots of added extras (fresh coffee, homemade biscuits, lots of lovely toiletries, truffles and a well stocked complimentary mini fridge) we were served g&t in the lounge with complimentary nibbles, dinner was stunning (possibly the best cooked fillet steak we've ever tasted) and nothing is too much for the couple who own this beautiful property. Breakfast was as wonderful as the rest of our stay and we both can't wait to return!
Review 12:A very pleasant and well run country hotel with quaint little touches in the décor and a happy, competent and generous atmosphere. The rooms are provided with virtually everything you could conceivable need for your comfort. Hosts are really charming, friendly and very professional. Food is home cooked farm-style and is served in huge potions. Wine list is good and reasonably priced.
Review 13:Absolutely outstanding in every respect. Beautiful property and location, attention to detail was out of this world, service and welcome beyond first class, cuisine magnificent and comfort and cleanliness outstanding.
Review 14:Attention to detail was outstanding. Stunning grounds. Room had everything you could possibly need - fridge, iron, homemade shortbread which was delicious. Amazingly helpful efficient and kind staff who looked after me.
Review 15:Not a real grumble but I could only get hot water from the cold tap. The hosts tried to sort this.
Review 16:Very friendly hosts and excellent food. Dinner was fresh and of a high quality. Good choice of wine. Very comfortable room. Lovely site in the country yet near to main routes.
Review 17:I stay in a lot of hotels and this is by far the best I have stayed in a long time. Wonderful service, lovely location and rooms have everything you would want. Great attention to detail.
Review 18:The whole experience was excellent: clean comfortable accommodation with all necessary facilities provided. The setting was very pleasant, the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was one of the best I've ever had in a hotel in the UK.
Review 19:Having to leave the next morning.
Review 20:Davis and Heather couldn't do enough for us. What a lovely welcome after a long hard day's cycling across the moors. Dinner was delicious and really special. We were treated with such generosity from the moment we arrived.

Review 23:Tremendous hospitality; tea on arrival, long "tutorial" on Robert "Mouseman" Thompson furniture, tour of garden and offers of cuttings! Very comfortable and stylish bedrooms. Wonderful dinner and very generous portions. Faultless! Very, very friendly!
Review 24:I liked everything - warm welcome, gorgeous location and view, quirky comfortable little apartment of my own, fantastic, locally-sourced breakfast. I'd come again in a flash.
Review 25:If only all hotels put as much effort into making guests comfortable as this one. Very nice rooms with impressive attention to details. Great restaurant with a mouth-watering menu and warm-welcoming staff that should be rightly proud of their fabulous little hotel. Top marks !
Review 26:I had to leave ;)
Review 27:David and heather armstrong and family have got this just right, rooms, food, friendliness, it's everything anymore you would expect from a family run country house hotel :)
Review 28:this place is just beautiful! The owners were very helpful indeed, even offering to drive us to the wedding we were attending because we were late! The breakfast was ridiculously good - best black pudding ever! Without a doubt the best bed and breakfast I've been to in years.
Review 29:Tucked out of the way, but near enough to main roads. Owners couldn't be more hospitable. Food superb (if a little pricey) but great quality and portions.
Review 30:I booked this hotel through recommendation and was not disappointed. I arrived quite late but found the owner to be very accomodating and helpful the rooms were immaculate and very pleasant and the owners and food in the morning were first class big thumbs up !!!
Review 31:Nothing
Review 32:exemplary in all ways. lovely owners, great attention to detail. we wanted for nothing. we have already re-booked. You can't get a better advert than that!
Review 33:The place was just perfection, cannot rate it too highly. It came well recommended by other guests, and we can just see why. We stayed in many delightful places on our 14-night trip and this one will live on as being in a class of its own for us.
Review 34:Not enough hanging storage or drawer space in room, little shelf space bathroom. But rooms were of excellent size.
Review 35:Food, breakfast, staff and location. Quiet and relaxing.
Review 36:Wifi singal was a litlle weak in the room i stayed in.
Review 37:The location of this hotel is very tranquil. The rooms have everything you need for a perfect stay. The food and menu is superb. The host David and Heather where fantastic in every way.
Review 38:A really warm and inviting atmosphere, large rooms with everything you need and very accommodating staff. Out two year old loved it. Very impressed and highly recommend to anyone.
Review 39:Have stayed many times and it never disappoints. Excellent hospitality from David and Heather (proprietors). They know how to look after their guests. Very quiet location, comfy bed, nice toiletries and super food and service. Cannot fault anything.
Review 40:Only small thing that needs addressing is an obvious entrance sign... which isn't much of a problem !
Review 41:Small complex of outside chalets around really nice gardens Rooms really nicely decortaed The proprietors were excellent hosts Food was first class - but very large portions Everything in room you would need when staying away I will definitely return
Review 42:Nothing really. We arrived in the dark and we weren't really sure which door was the entrance but, it turned out, you could use any door. So maybe some 'Entrance' signs? However, this certainly was not a problem. We really enjoyed our visit.
Review 43:I brought my mother here for a birthday treat whilst we explored the Durham and Ripon. We had a super experience at this hotel. When we arrived we were greeted by David who offered us the chance to sit in the living room and enjoy fresh ground coffee and home-made cookies (delicious!) Next we were each shown to our lovely, spacious rooms which both included large bathrooms as well as dressing rooms. The rooms opened directly to the outdoors so there was no noisy corridor to endure, ensuring our stay was exceptionally quiet and peaceful. Everything was very clean and comfortable. Good wifi too. We enjoyed a lovely evening meal here and a great breakfast. Being vegetarian myself, I was particularly impressed with an imaginative vegetarian menu for the evening meal. Furthermore, I was even given a vegetarian breakfast menu - great! (Being a vegetarian, I'm unaccustomed to 'choice'!) Mum was also impressed with her meatier menu. David and Heather (proprietors) clearly have extremely high standards and are experts in hospitality. I'd recommend this place to anyone who is visiting the area - for business or leisure.
Review 44:We were made welcome from the moment we got there. The hosts could not do enough for us. The room was well situated and was immaculate. The breakfast choice was unbelievable. I would deffinitly recommend to others.
Review 45:Everything from greeting on arrival to our final day our weekend was lovely. Nothing is too much trouble we felt really relaxed and the food was amazing no one leaves hungry! A beautiful location really peaceful and comfortable. Looking forward to our net visit.

Review 47:Warm, friendly welcome, lovely rooms with every possible comfort, delightful building in a super location, good food - a superbly relaxing stay and I slept like a top! Would definitely come back if in the area again. Thank you.
Review 48:Everything. Décor, comfort, beds, food - excellent vegetarian menu, staff were very helpful, countryside next to fields and river, garden attractively designed, layout of external rooms in relation to main building, equipment in room for every eventuality.
Review 49:Individually designed rooms, chocolates and home baked shortbread made a lovely welcome. Beautiful gardens and lovely views. Delicious breakfasts. Would recommend highly.
Review 50:Nothing at all!!!
Review 51:We were given the option to cook what we like so that we would feel at home, though the food served was excellent and that made us feel all the more special. Truly an amazing atmosphere to stay and friendly staff too. Definitely recommend to all!! Not to forget, special care and concern taken for my spouse fell sick and nothing to complain at all. Love u guys, David and Heather.
Review 52:Nothing to dislike
Review 53:Loved everything about the hotel but unfortunately only spent a short time there, would have loved to have been there longer. But will try and stay again soon.
Review 54:Cant think of a single negative about this hotel!
Review 55:Every effort was made to make sure we had everything we needed on arrival. The ensuite room had everything and more than we needed. Breakfast was served in comfortable surroundings overlooking their beautiful gardens. The choice at breakfast was astounding, and very tasty. We will definately return for a second visit and next time we wil have dinner there too as the meals we saw being served just as we were leaving for our night out looked fantastic. Cant fault Clow Beck House at all!
Review 56:Very nice little hotel. Good clean rooms and a nice garden location. Excellent breakfast and very friendly, helpful staff. Easy car parking close to the room.
Review 57:Fantastic personal welcome. The attitude throughout our stay was that they would bend over backwards to accomodate our needs. Breakfast was awesome. Gardens were a work of art.
Review 58:There was nothing I didnt like
Review 59:Everything - The location is stunning, the rooms are immaculate and beautifully decorated. The home cooked food is tasty and David and Heather are polite and welcoming.
Review 60:The greeting and friendliness of the 2 owners is outstanding. The room was fully equipped with all that you would need for your stay and more. We had an evening meal too which was plentiful and tasty. All home made with homemade different breads. The sticky toffee pudding was so light I would highly recommend this. Just wished we stayed for longer. We will definitely come back again when travelling north.
Review 61:My friend and I came for a wedding to Darlington and decided to stay at Claw Beck House and Absolutely loved it! From arrival to departure it was perfect! It's an amazing, cosy, comfy, wonderful and delicious place!!! Would come back every time I'm in the area. There is love and passion for details (warm water bottle, candle in the bathroom, etc.) food is home made and many products organic and from local farms. Beautiful gardens to wander around or sit in the sun and read on one of them tables outside. The owners are outgoing, welcoming and funny hosts that care about their guests! Greetings from Aberdeen :o)
Review 62:Having to leave!
Review 63:The warm welcome received from both David and Heather. Delicious food in a delightful restaurant. Superior rooms with every detail thought of. Fabulous breakfast. Peace and quiet in a beautiful location.
Review 64:Absolutely beautiful accommodation in a tranquil setting, with lots of little extras to make it special. Nothing was too much trouble for Heather and David. I was given a pot of tea and delicious home made shortbread in the lounge on arrival. And I even got a lift from David to Croft circuit! The breakfast was the best I've had anywhere, with a vast menu. I would definitely recommend Clow Beck.
Review 65:That dogs are not allowed unless you were willing to put them in a cage in the laundry room at night as not allowed in rooms which I can understand because of pet allergies but it is such a shame as it would be an ideal place to go walking with your dog.
Review 66:I have travelled to quite a few places in this country and abroad but what an absolutely fantastic place. So peaceful and charming, felt 100% relaxed, only went for a couple of days but just wished we could have stayed longer. Cannot wait to go back again, I would not hesitate to recommend Clow Beck House to anyone. The rooms were elegantly decorated, the setting was amazing and the gardens - well, everywhere you looked there was something that caught your eye - it was all very well done and the owners were so friendly and welcoming. Cannot wait to book again, this is something different from everywhere else!
Review 67:What is there not to like?
Review 68:Beautiful setting yet only minutes from the A1 at Scotch Corner. Very comfortable beds and well furnished rooms. Excellent food, worth the price. David and his family are wonderful hosts, a cheery smile from the minute you arrive.
Review 69:Our room was furnished to a high standard with extra items like a cooler for water and toiletries in addition to what one would expect (hairspray and nail varnish remover). The garden is immaculate and the dining room airy and not overcrowded. We both breakfasted and dined there and the food was of an excellent standard and varied to suit our needs. Anything we wanted was provided including an early weekend breakfast and skimmed milk for our room. We look forward to staying here again.

Review 74:All of it - warm welcome (with tea and biscuits!), excellent room spotlessly clean and comfortable. Delicious meals especially David's breakfast porridge. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Review 75:I understand that Booking.com only rate hotels up to a score of 10/10. This hotel demands a score of 11/10!
