Reviews for Britannia Airport Hotel South Manchester

Review 1:1. Elevators were out of order 2. Wifi though was free, could not reach all rooms and the hotel made no guarantee of accessibility in all rooms. 3. Staff were rude in the evenings. Don't know why.

Review 2:Nothing

Review 3:Housekeeping staff banging on doors at early hours to clean. On two occasions I was woken up by 8.30am. They rushed in and out. The toilet tank cover in room 302 we stayed in was wood and not so great. Hotel had many refugees and I felt unsafe especially in the lifts which take forever. I travelled with a young child so it was un settling. Front desk often unmanned. Wifi service needs serious improvement . Even in areas where it ought to work, it did not. 5 days stay, overall just okay. I appreciate that the facility is old but more can be done.

Review 4:The location was the best thing about the hotel. Proximity to the airport and down Palatine road, full of all necessities, banks, convenience stores, post office, restaurants, etc. Staff at the bar were friendly. Choice of food served also good.

Review 5:That the lights didn't work in one of the lifts - very scary as when the lift doors closed I was plunged into pitch darkness. I reported it to reception who said casually that they knew about it and someone was coming to fix it. So why did they not put a warning notice outside?? or have it 'out of order'?

Review 6:It was clean and had a useful bus to the airport.

Review 7:Hairs in bath. Tiny bathroom. Stains on carpet. Uncomfortable bed. Receptionists kept me waiting while they had a chat.

Review 8:It had stopped raining when I woke up.

Review 9:The state of the hotel upset me for the price of the room (£100)it looked like it was being used as a holding point for immigrants. The staff were unfriendly which started the experience of to a bad start. I would never recommend the hotel or stay there again which is a shame as its close to our offices.

Review 10:The wifi connection is verrrry poor in the rooms we couldn't use it at all. The bed was listed as double standard but the bed is so tinny more of queen size. we couldn't fit well and had so uncomfortable sleep through the night. One of the towels provided wasn't clean and had stain.

Review 11:Found it noisey with generator or something out side bedroom window and people on corridors shouting and banging doors didnt sleep all nught

Review 12:Food and service

Review 13:N/A

Review 14:Ronald's stay was very short notice and I booked it on line for him while he was travelling and your hotel site was excellent and so easy to make a booking. It was priced well and there was no limit on arrival timings and the staff were excellent.

Review 15:I will never stay here again due to all the syria refugees that were also staying here. I just wish i would of realised sooner so i could of got out of there. It was awful there were around 30 syria men all sat in the restaurant area they just sit and stared at me and my children. It was so uncomfortable,i would never advise this hotel! After realising who these men were i couldnt sleep and left first thing in the morning.

Review 16:The only english man i seen there that worked at the bar was very helpful with our room service we ordered.

Review 17:bath had previous occupiers hair, the waitresses during evening meal too busy talking to take notice of dinners, One waitress was sorting her hair out, then serving the food without washing her hands, the waiter during the breakfast service was still getting dressed, I wanted a continental breakfast before 7:00, and it was not ready, the waitress during checking seemed very very unhelpful, On previous visits to this hotel it was very good hence the return, but I shall not go back again

Review 18:LOCATION

Review 19:It would have been nice to have been told that the hotel is being used to house refugees and over stayers, I felt that I was eating in a refugee camp while eating breakfast. Also kept being begged for cigarettes. If I had been told they were there I would most definitely not booked and I am now in process of making complaint!! This weekend away was to celebrate birthday it was totally ruined!!

Review 20:Worst place ive ever been too. Carpets, old furnitures thrown away in the parking lot. Rooms are older than my grand parents, look very dirty and disgusting. Matress hasnt been changed for centuries, not sur why but me and my partnes couldnt sleep because of itching, maybe there are bed bugs in there.

Review 21:Nothing, absolutely horrible

Review 22:The staff English was not very fluent could not understand what there were saying when checking in and out, I asked them to point out my room floor there said down there which was very poor attitude.

Review 23:The mini bar.

Review 24:Poor wifi didn't work in the room at all Cold room no central heating working Poor food quality and standard Poor cleanliness Old decor and interior

Review 25:Location and price

Review 26:Not happy as cleaner came in my room while I was showering and before my allowed departure time. No knocking just opened the door with her key and walked in.

Review 27:very friendly staff room very clean and comfortable we had stayed here before ideal for staying and parking whiist flying have recommended you to several other holiday makers

Review 28:The reception and bedroom smelt of smoke and the no smoking signs on the doors clearly aren't working. Also we weren't impressed with the beggers outside the front door to the hotel

Review 29:Free parking and clean bedding

Review 30:Bar closed too early when we were arriving at 11.00pm due to a late flight and we were unable to get a drink. At breakfast the following morning the restaurant was full of what seemed to be asylum seekers eating massive amounts of food and we felt uncomfortable. For this reason we won't be visiting again. There are far better places to stay for the price charged.

Review 31:The room was ok for a short stay. The location was near to the airport and shops and restaurants were near to the hotel

Review 32:not had one hope i never will

Review 33:you don't get mithered in the morning from room service if your a little late! Staff are friendly and welcoming. If you have any queries you don't feel awkward asking.

Review 34:Snot on the walls, damp on the walls, someone knocked on our door at 1am with our children asleep and the cleaner let herself into our room at 8am in the morning!

Review 35:On entering the room I had no toilet paper, no shower curtain, no towels. The bed was very itchy. The bath was just about big enough to sit in.

Review 36:Location was fine

Review 37:Foreign people sitting in halls lying down in halls having to step over complained but nothing done about it that's why I've never bin back very intimidated my wife was scared

Review 38:Area

Review 39:At £102 per night without food I found it very expensive and the first room was absolutely freezing with no heating at all, eventually I was moved to a room with heating, and I cut short my stay and moved to a different hotel where they appreciate our custom and didn't hike the prices near Black Friday.

Review 40:Everything, your company will get a very bad reputation if you carry on recommending such an awful, tired, dirty place such as this location, it is not fit to class itself as a hotel

Review 41:Had to change rooms as the electric sockets didn't work. 2nd room dirty stuff under the bed and smaller not impressed at all staff on reception in the morning not really bothered.

Review 42:Service great

Review 43:The hotel seemed to have turned into part hostel ! Why can they not have proper curtains at the room windows instead of just blackout blinds? and talking of windows why can they not have basic double glazed units that keep the road noise out. It needs a big upgrade in facilities and basic accommodation issues. There is no chance of getting a wifi connection in your room as it only seems to work within the confines of the hotel reception area, as shown by the number of people hanging about with various devices trying to get a connection. As a bed for the night to sleep and somewhere to shower (I do not have the time to go into issues concerning the bathroom) it is ok.

Review 44:Nothing to say on this.I have stayed here often and you get what you pay for.

Review 45:Room wasn't very clean, dodgy stain on bed cover. Bed was lumpy and Shower was rubbish - I feel like booking.com guests perhaps get allocated worst rooms generally?

Review 46:Staff were helpful enough on check in.

Review 47:Everything. Thankfully we were only there for one night

Review 48:This hotel is a long way from the airport, and the transfer is not reliable. We waited an hour for the transfer, then the taxi never turned up. We ended up paying £12 to organise our own transfer. This is definitely not an airport hotel. The hotel is very run down and we would not stop here again. The only positive for the hotel is Margaret, the receptionist. She dealt with our concerns, professionally and is a credit to the hotel.

Review 49:Bed was absolutely tiny, a 3/4 bed (not even a double!) for 2 people and extremely uncomfortable. The road outside was extremely noisy, as there was inadequate soundproofing, and not as close to the airport as expected. It's called an airport hotel but don't be fooled, it is a 15 minute drive away.

Review 50:it was reasonably cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Review 51:Place needs a complete refurb. The rooms are worn, dated, unclean and the walls are paper thin which is rubbish as with it being an airport hotel their was a constant flow of people waking us up just by walking and talking and dragging cases down the hallway. Very grim.

Review 52:Ten minutes to the airport

Review 53:everything. Dirty carpet, broken towel rail. Dirty cups. Noise. Entrance was littered with cigarette butts. Overall very poor.

Review 54:Staff on reception were very polite and helpful

Review 55:Cleaning staff couldnt u sets tabs English. Very old paint carpets really dirty. Cigarette under bed. Very tiered and smelly.

Review 56:Reception staff could not be more helpful and polite. Near to Football ground. 5/6 miles.

Review 57:The room hadn't been cleaned properly - crumbs on the table next to the television, hair in the bath, the bin hadn't been emptied from the previous guests, had to get help to turn the tv on and then the sound went off after 30 seconds so couldn't watch, difficulty getting on the internet, surly unhelpful man (not Shaun) on reception and the food was largely inedible.

Review 58:Young man on reception called Shaun - and young Spanish man in the restaurant

Review 59:Dreadful atmosphere, we really didn't feel safe at this hotel, lots of strange characters in the lobby, very slow service, shouting and aggression late at night, we won't ever go back, I'm so glad we only stayed one night!

Review 60:Fairly near to the airport, although I'd never stay there again.

Review 61:No plug sockets next to bed not able to privide an extension ...am sure im not the only traveller that sleeps on an apnoea machine...?

Review 62:Staff member went the extra mile and thats the reasin this place scored higher

Review 63:Driving to the hotel it resembles a concert urinal. However, first appearances can be deceiving. We had dinner, which was a buffet, but we had to share with a coach load of OAPs. So it was a bit of a made rush to not only eat but find a table. Food was fair but a little too expensive for what it was. The coach trip paid a lot less!

Review 64:The rooms was clean and tidy. When I asked for more tea and milk that was no problem.

Review 65:Old, decrepit, smelly and in need of refurbishing or being knocked down and rebuilt Incredibly expensive for the facilities it had! Airport hotel? How? It isn't that close to the airport!

Review 66:Not much to like

Review 67:couldn't understand one of the receptionist very well. He had a very strong accent..

Review 68:close to airport in a car. great value for location. clean and tidy rooms. gated carpark.

Review 69:I didn't feel comfortable in this hotel. First impressions were really poor. It looked like a run down 70's apartment block. As a female traveller I would not stay here again. There were a lot of people hanging around the reception/bar area that made me feel uncomfortable.

Review 70:Room was warm!

Review 71:this hotel is in desperate need of a refurb - it is run down and presents an aura of not being clean. the tv is an old style box/ not flat screen. the door key system is very old and tired. the bathroom is a joke. the bed is a joke. in the days where Premier Inns have set a standard of cheap comfort there really is no excuse for hotels to be stuck in the dark ages like this hotel is

Review 72:location was good for the airport

Review 73:we checked in and asked for 2 rooms next to each other and we was a 2 rooms on different floors there was man watching you walk to room which made us feel unforcortable the rooms was nothing like they shown on the web site it was more like a hostel than a hotel in the end we complained an they moved us to there sister hotel which was much better I would advice no one to stay at this hotel because I just doesn't feel safe at all the doors didn't shut properly and the cctv cameras don't work and it was dirty and smelly and the same in the rooms

Review 74:nothing

Review 75:restaurant staff was unhappy when we ask if we could go into the restaurant. Lack of menu .

Review 76:rooms was tidy and clean, front of house taff very pleasant

Review 77:Pity the TV wasn't checked. I couldn't get it to work and because room phone wasn't working , had to go down to reception to get help. Someone had put the batteries in remote the wrong way round. Was surprised at both these faults in an otherwise good hotel.

Review 78:Very comfortable and quiet, because of a middle of the night flight , I went to bed at 7pm and was not disturbed.

Review 79:No mention of where asylum seekers are housed, I felt unsafe due to them congregating in stair wells, or lying in the middle of corridors. People were smoking inside the hotel. Wifi was unusable.

Review 80:Price, staff

Review 81:Shaver plug in bathroom did not work I had to spend £2.00 on an adaptor. Bed not too good as I could feel the springs in the mattress.

Review 82:Super clean bath. Cleanliness generally v good. Shower very weak and unsatisfactory.

Review 83:The place has a dirty smell the moment you enter. The hallways andcarpets are dirty and sticky. The reception counter is dirty and sticky. The rooms are so dated the furniture and tv look like they are from the1980'S. There was a hole in our bathroom door which had obviouslybeen punched. The beds are so old and uncomfortable. There are gangs ofdifferent nationalities hanging around the lift areas and corridors someof them have black bags of clothes. A woman in the bar told me they wereall asylum seekers. Felt very uncomfortable dining as they were staringover at us. Place was over run with them. The pictures of the rooms thatare on booking.com are not what the rooms look like at all. Theelevators smell repulsive.

Review 84:Closeness to airport

Review 85:Breakfast ok. ..it would help in food items where labeled and also juice and the tea and coffee pot .. No fried eggs and items cold .dissapointed

Review 86:Room clean and comfortable

Review 87:Badly needs a refit, bathroom fine but bedroom quite tired and the place really needs updating.

Review 88:Cheap and cheerful staff, food good (fish & chips). Happy hour!

Review 89:Very filthy place. Room was cold and carpets so filthy. Beds very uncomfortable and bed sheets smelly!! The entire place smells of smoking and alcohol. No sleep during the night due to humming motorway traffic! Staff extremely rude when I went to complaint about all the above. At 3:30 in the night after having travelled all day and so desperate for some sleep I was given another room...even worse than the first one. Spent a horrible sleepless night costing me £58!!! Asked to speak to the manager but he/she was not available. Never book this place ever again!

Review 90:Nothing!

Review 91:Poor to no lighting in the upper car park area such that I was glad I wasn't travelling alone. Having said that the car was fine when we returned but I wouldn't have fancied going to collect it on my own.

Review 92:Hotel is near to Manchester Airport with short transfer time. Plus I got a good deal for our overnight stay with 8 days parking included.

Review 93:Not cleaning rooms on daily basis unless a request is made for it to be cleaned- This is not right. All hotel rooms with guests in must be cleaned daily with bins emptied. Room cleaning requested on our way out in the morning and done before we came back in the evening. However, 1. New towels not supplied (no reason for that) 2. Bed sheets straightened and not changed. 3. TV available in room - no remote to operate. 4. Phone not working - for every call we have to go down to the reception. 5. Tablet soap not replenished as well. 6. Bad mannerism of staff- when told about all that ought to be done and not being done I.e towel and soap supply, remote, phone not working etc. -staff asked me to wait by the reception desk, brought clean towels from the laundry and gave them to me to take upstairs myself. This is shocking. Of course I refused to do that. He is the staff and is being paid to do the job and not to give things like that to guest to carry all through the lift and corridor. Where is their health and safety training? Reason given by staff for wanting to send me around with the towel is that they are short staffed!!. He brought the items later himself but if I had taken it from him he wouldn't have thought of the fact that what he did was wrong. - Bed not comfortable- my wife and child left the hotel with body ache from the other bed they slept on. -the whole environment +the care park look so untouched/unkempt (so dirty and all littered). Sorry for the criticism, I have been to hotels several times and never had that bad experience.

Review 94:DID NOT LIKE: Cleaning of rooms not done except the request is made- this is not right, all rooms currently used must be cleaned with bins emptied daily.

Review 95:I noticed right away that our room needed new carpet. The television needed updated. Very difficult to figure out how to turn it on.

Review 96:Location and staff.

Review 97:Parking was a bit confusing to start and I had tto wait in the car for 30 mins while a laundry delivery was blocking the entrance. The dining room staff were rude and we had to have a refund for our meal.

Review 98:The room was nice and clean. Reception staff were friendly. The bar staff were superb, extremely helpful and friendly

Review 99:Paid much more than had previously paid this time 84 pounds for smoking room with no wifi very disappointed have been customer many times and paid 40 pounds with wifi which I feel is a better price and more acceptable.

Review 100:Room good size. Plenty of towels and nice bar service staff. Location good.

Review 101:I paid for transfers from Manchester airport back to the hotel and was left waiting for an hour on my own late at night

Review 102:The room was clean and comfortable. Ok for a 1 night stay.

Review 103:Staff are always friendly and helpful and Rachel who booked us in was very helpful regarding our taxi transport to the hotel as the taxi driver wasn't the best and charged more than we thought but Rachel sorted this out for us.

Review 104:Twin bed pushed together with castor missing making bed uneven (luckily I was staying in the room on my own), keycard kept failing, bar closed at 11pm. Cost of morning toast and coffee was extortionate.Restricted parking.

Review 105:Reception was welcoming. Close to airport and in reach of other regional attractions.

Review 106:it was not was advertised. wifi was only in the lobby and intermittent - everyone (and there was lots of people) were complaining to no avail. we checked out after only 1/2 hr. rooms need updating, chairs were threadbare in places.

Review 107:that they refunded me straight away

Review 108:I booked by credit card but the staff did not understand pre-authorization when I arrived which caused a bit of a problem as I wanted to use up my English currency I was offered it in the end. When going to the hotel from the car park in the evening, the maintenance man was just locking the side door and when asked if he would open it for me, he refused and told me to walk around to the front door. He could see that I was having to use a walker for assistance but he had neither empathy or concern for the situation. I related this to the front desk as I walked in but they did not seem to want to get involved and the maintenance man, who was passing was very negative. No clock in the room and phone cut off and could not even reach the front desk.

Review 109:The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast menu was great and bar are was relaxing. Wake up call was spot on.

Review 110:Everything about the place was horrible. As soon as we pulled into the car park we knew we had made a mistake. Booked for two nights stayed one. Everything from the room, bed, food was awful. We had 1980's telly which did not work bedroom was so stuffy so opened window only to have to put up with hum of traffic all night. Changed to Premier Inn for second night stay was a palace compared to this dump.

Review 111:Nothing good about the place

Review 112:We were in a room that looked like a cupboard had been converted. It wasn't even numbered on the room directions. It was very small and pokey, the bedside lamp had no plug socket within reach, we had to put the lamp at the bottom of the bed. Cleaning staff were noises in the morning. We had late check out but they still made loads of noise outside our room.

Review 113:The reception staff were lovely and helpful.

Review 114:Bed frame broken, old and broken furnishings, no wifi in rooms.

Review 115:Ok so it's a dive and in desperate need of a revamp but it completely served its purpose. Close to the airport, cheap and it was a bed for the night and somewhere to park the car. I was under no illusions based on ither reviews that this place was a palace.

Review 116:Perfect location for the airport! Taxi service is fantastic. Staff were brilliant, Lovely pub down the road farmers arms! Price was brilliant! No gripes what so ever!

Review 117:Being awaken at 04:00 by a drunk trying to kick our bedroom door in and swearing at the top of his voice "open this Fu**ing door" then finding the phone for reception didn't work. The shower water was tepid to cold and the TV didn't work either.

Review 118:The room was average and the English guy on reception was very helpful

Review 119:I arrived very ill during the night. I had taken ill in Greece and just arrived by plane to Manchester Airport then taxi to this hotel. The receptionist didnt even know we had booked in and asked my sister to look down a list of names to see if she could spot ours which then they allocated a room knowing I felt so ill we needed to get to the room. They would not carry our cases to the room in the lift which was shocking to say we are both 60 years of age + We then had no tea or coffee making facilities in the room and the room was dirty. We rang down and they did bring a tray up but not even a biscuit for my sister or any teaspoons to be able to do the drinks. Sincerely the staff need a course in customer service.

Review 120:Very old hotel. The room seems to be dusty and not very well maintained. They gave us towels with big hole in it. Stained linen and very flat pillows..

Review 121:Location

Review 122:Old,tired and dated.Poor value for money.Needs a complete overhaul.Rotten woodwork painted over to try and tidy it up..Old furniture.Wallpaper hanging of the wall.Top of tap fell off when I turned it on..80's style tv with only 5 channels. Not worth £139 without breakfast nor the 3 star rating.Cheap B&B at best..

Review 123:to noisy, bed was not suitable for a person over 6ft, tv outdated, no plug for shaver in bathroom and no hot water

Review 124:bar area was the only good thing that looked decent

Review 125:WIFI was hopeless in the room. We had to use the lounge area to get a good signal and they even tell you that when u check in but when I booked it never mentioned that it was limited. Also no mention in advance that airport shuttle is round trip price even when using it one way which is more than a taxi one way. Needs to provide info on web site where to find shuttle at the airport when arriving.

Review 126:Location to Airport is good. Breakfast deal is excellent value if you book the night before it is only UKP5 instead of UKP9.95

Review 127:It's a misnomer to include the word "airport" in the name of the hotel when it's some distance from the aforementioned airport.

Review 128:A number of restaurants and pubs are in easy walking distance.

Review 129:The hotels water supply failed due to the amount of people having a shower at the same time, took 45mins to fill back up. The initial room I was given was already occupied when I went up. Had to come back down to a very confused receptionist

Review 130:Had its own car park

Review 131:On arrival was told had to move to airport inn hotel which was onopposite site of Manchester. It was over crowded -no seats in bar foreating at; very slow to check in; two flights of stairs to room - notinformed about this and took some finding!; Remote with no facilities inimmediate area therefore stuck with those in hotel or had to drive againafter a long drive from Scotland and the redirection; no pencil or padin an"executive room"A bad start to a holiday!!!

Review 132:We stayed with 8 days parking and the price was very good. Car was safe and secure when left at the hotel. Food and drink was very reasonable priced, relaxed atmosphere. Room was very clean and recently refurbished our stay was very nice.

Review 133:Not a negative as such would be great it the wifi was available to your room.

Review 134:Staff very helpful room clean and comfortable good value for money . Stayed in transit for an early flight .

Review 135:Menu is somewhat limited in the restaurant but the food is good.

Review 136:Location is close to airport and for a fee there is an airport shuttle or even taxi service for only 10 GBP (if booked through hotel). They have a good happy hour. I had a room that was not right on the street side so it was a little quieter
