Reviews for Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa
Review 1:Lovely setting within walking distance of Newmarket High Street. Spacious, comfortable bedrooms. Excellent quality restaurant and staff extremely helpful. Well worth a visit to the Spa facilities adjacent.
Review 2:The safe on room didn't work and we advised staff but no feedback was given back. Dinner overpriced for average food. A staff member almost arguing with us regarding a request for coffee.
Review 3:The leisure centre and the hotel facilities and grounds were lovely. We even saw horses training from our room.
Review 4:Loud noise from gym dance studio, at 06:30am, two days running. This looks to be an insoluble problem, given the hotel layout. It all depends whether this is too early for you, or not.
Review 5:Room comfortable & very clean; tasty food; staff helpful - concierge Martin is a star. Convenient car parking; well-equipped gym/spa facilities. Racehorses pass by in the mornings.
Review 6:Nothing really to say except would have liked evening turn down service which we received last time we stayed,(where our room was tidied, massage oil on the pillow) but if we hadnt stayed before wouldnt have been expecting this.
Review 7:This is the loveliest hotel we've stayed in - would recommend the suites as they are in the original building and are so quiet. Plus there is a fruut basket on arrival, chocolates and a molton brown beauty gift. Staff are perfect balance - helpful but not too intrusive :)
Review 8:Attention to detail, friendliness and efficiency of staff (especially the receptionist and Martin the concierge for whom nothing was to much trouble). Beautiful hotel, excellent presentation, service and food.
Review 9:Visited the bar for an evening drink and was disappointed to find quite loud pop music playing which spoilt what we were hoping was going to be a relaxing hour unwinding with a quiet drink. The music at breakfast was also annoying, Michael Jackson!!, with a little more thought for the music and the whole experience would have been just perfect.
Review 10:view from bedroom window of racing stables and the fantastic leisure centre. Very luxurious hotel with fabulous staff who responded immediately to requests and were very helpful.
Review 11:My teenage daughter and I used the pool and gym - both very good . Pool was clean and not too small . I enjoyed jacuzzi and sauna too. State of the art gym equipment . Great to have Molton brown in the showers . We only ate breakfast but one of the best breakfasts ive had in a hotel
Review 12:Struggling but the bathroom could be to a higher spec
Review 13:Hotel is beautiful and in a great location, There is good parking when you arrive, the staff are friendly and helpful, Facilities are great, gym, pool, bar etc. Nice size room with a lovely view over the stables and a comfy bed.
Review 14:Loud bass heavy music at 0630, gym I assume. Child running around bar early evening and staff did nothing. Food is OK but nothing special. Dull restaurant.
Review 15:Location is good although nothing really to recommend Newmarket. Staff ok but no more. Bar is small but ok. Good beers Fullers and Adnams. Good parking and rooms. Breakfast is good.
Review 16:An absolute gem, staff were friendly and helpful as well as professional, the room was beautiful, whole place was very clean and decor was very smart, the three course festive menu at the restaurant was fab, lovely breakfast there too, found time for a quick dip in the pool which was also great. I really can't find fault with this place. 100% will stay here again!
Review 17:The breakfast could have had more sausages and the egges and bacon could of been better.
Review 18:I liked the health club, bedroom were lovely. All the staff was friendly.
Review 19:Room wasn't that big for price. Products and fruit weren't restocked in room after day 1 (even though the stay on day 2 was £50 more)
Review 20:Spa was nice, molton brown products were a nice touch.
Review 21:The food is a bit 'ornate' Please get rid of the lavender flavoured biscuits in the room - they are vile!
Review 22:I stay here regularly, all the staff are well trained and professional in their approach The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable The service in the bar and at breakfast is quick and efficient Breakfast is varied and hot
Review 23:Only dislike, the bed was a little to hard for our liking.
Review 24:The room was excellent, and the staff were really friendly and helpful. I have a food allergy but this was no problem at all, the food was superb.
Review 25:Having to leave !
Review 26:Fantastic staff total attention to detail best service and staff we have ever seen , the most comfortable bed and room we have ever stayed in very very impressed.
Review 27:Not applicable.
Review 28:Staff were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Room warm and spacious and nice touches were moulton brown toiletries and comp water. Breakfast was excellent.
Review 29:Spa was already booked out two weeks prior to arrival, although obviously not their fault they are so popular
Review 30:Staff were all excellent, so friendly and very helpful. Room was lovely, comfortable bed and Molton Brown products in bathroom were great.
Review 31:We found the room very warm however this was simply rectified by opening the window. It certainly didn't affect our stay.
Review 32:Warm and friendly welcome. I made several requests which were actioned immediately. Fabulous atmosphere in the bar. Truly delicious breakfast, where the staff were very attentive and cheerful and provided outstanding customer service.
Review 33:The bed was too soft. The meals were inconsistent. Mine was fine, my wife's was tiny and poor. I have complained. The staff are not sharp enough with their eyes. We had no butter but no one saw. At breakfast, some fruit was dropped on the cloth. No one passing saw. We left 15 minutes latter.
Review 34:The room was good
Review 35:This was a great place to stay. We stayed for a family wedding. We were all looked after brilliantly, the food was fantastic as were the surroundings. Would definitely return.
Review 36:When showering in bath, plug stayed in and had to be lifted manually. Black mould between rim of bath and tiles.
Review 37:Comfortable beds. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 38:My single bed in room 10 seems to have lost its firmness on one side and so I rolled to that side on occasion! Other than that it was comfortable but you may want o avoid a complaint by checking this mattress. The waitresses were friendly but not very relaxed. One in particular appeared very intense and must have used the word "lovely" at least 10 times at each meal - a bit unnatural and a tad irritating but perhaps I am being unfair!! It may irritate others though too.....!
Review 39:The level of cleanliness and comfort was very good throughout the hotel. I was particularly lucky that my visit to the SPA was on the first day of the new jacuzzi. I thoroughly enjoyed my soak following a swim in the pool, which was also clean and a pleasant way to start the day. Changing rooms and showers were also good quality and clean which to me is important in this type of facility. Staff were very welcoming and helpful (at SPA and reception) and clientele at SPA were very friendly. The overall atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. The food was generally good, the venison was delicious! You could do with serving homemade wholemeal brown bread at breakfast-we missed not having that!
Review 40:Shame pool opened so late on Sunday would have loved to have a swim before Christmas.
Review 41:Staff were lovely, food was excellent. Having a small boy running around didn't seem to bother anyone in the slightest. Nice view from our window.
Review 42:The room was dirty with stains on the carpet , The restaurant sevice wasterrible, I had a steak half was fat I got told by the Sheff it was myfault for ordering that meal ... Nice
Review 43:nothing, should have stayed longer.
Review 44:Fabulous setting on the edge of Newmarket. Very friendly staff. We will definitely find a reason to return to the Bedford and lovely Newmarket. Free parking, good food.
Review 45:Bar is somewhat down at heel. Needs a good clean.
Review 46:Great place to stay. Good location, easy parking, clean air conditioned rooms a short walk away. Excellent service. For example, room service phoned 5 minutes before to confirm the order for breakfast and to check that it was convenient to bring to the room.
Review 47:One tiny observation was the steps to the lift. We managed with the pushchair but wondered how you would get on with a wheelchair?
Review 48:Everything about our stay was so good it's hard to single out one thing but if I had to it would be the superb staff right from reception, to housekeeping and waitresses.
Review 49:Having to check-out is always sad!
Review 50:We always have a great experience when we stay at Bedford Lodge. The staff are great, the rooms are lovely and the facilities are good too.
Review 51:Always enjoy staying at this hotel. Quiet location and comfortable rooms. Food is of a high standard and service excellent. We stay at their busiest times when we attend Newmarket races and we are always very satisfied.
Review 52:Ambience of restaurant was lacking. Not clear that spa is at an additional cost. No ketchup with breakfast in room.
Review 53:Peaceful location. Spa was relaxing. Clean and comfortable.
Review 54:The bathroom sink was not properly cleaned.
Review 55:The staff went out of their way to make our stay an enjoyable experience. Service in the restaurant at breakfast was excellent, as was the food. Our (superior) room was very spacious and there was a generous supply of towels.
Review 56:Sorry to complain but when we booked to stay at this Spa Hotel, we booked according to the facilities advertised and booked the no refund option, only after we booked were we informed the Steam Room,Jacuzzi and Sauna were being refurbished and not available. There was no apology either on arrival and no signs on site. We used the gym and pool but again no apology or sign at the worksite and no apology for the hammering and drilling which was extremely disturbing. Sorry but this was a real blot on a otherwise lovely break.
Review 57:We loved the building and location
Review 58:The pool area needs attention having to walk on boards along the side of the pool that looked like they needed a good clean and hosing down isnt a good look
Review 59:The cleanliness was very good staff very polite and accomodating also plenty of parking
Review 60:Last time we stayed my feedback said each room needs iron and board and decent hairdryer as is standard now in all good hotels. Clearly fell on deaf ears.!!!
Review 61:Have stayed before, is best Hotel in area, good food, nice décor, efficient staff.
Review 62:The spa was closed for refurbishment during our stay & we were told that we would have to pay to use the spa next door. We wanted to use the jaccuzi, so were at a little disappointed.
Review 63:The hotel was lovely & clean & the staff very friendly.
Review 64:On arrival it was raining and a member of staff came out to greet us with an umbrella. The receptionist was friendly and very helpful. The room very good and we had an excellent evening meal.
Review 65:Were not late for breakfast but staff insisted on hovering round us and clearing tables ready for lunch. Unsmiling staff. Also asked for twin bed was given double. Told someone would change this in 15 minutes but did not and had to make a2nd request. Housekeeper when she arrived was efficient. The change took well over an hour.
Review 66:Receptionist very friendly.
Review 67:Some attention needed to dust under changing room benches and bathroom areas.
Review 68:Tranquil setting, grounds beautiful and well maintained. We ate in the lounge bar two evenings, excellent food and service. Highly recommended all round.
Review 69:Sauna and jaccuzi closed for refurbishment, not advised of this before arrival so disappointed. Service and attention to detail at dinner lacking, no flower arrangement or salt and pepper on table, champagne not waiting as seated. Breakfast chaotic, after a 10 min wait seated at table with clean tablecloth only, watched as staff rushed around to set table in front of us, buffet table empty or low of most items and staff not really aware despite there being plenty of time before end of breakfast service time, given menu and then asked almost immediately if ready to order hot food, arrived very quickly, felt rushed throughout.
Review 70:Location
Review 71:Expected a separate shower as there was so much room instead had to step in over the bath I have problem with knee at moment so a bit awkward . There were also some really bad stains on the carpet and TV in bedroom had no signal sounds like I'm moaning but it was a very expensive room
Review 72:Had a lovely suite well equipped and very good sleep as bed so comfortable
Review 73:I have to think hard of something I didn't like. The only thing I could think of was that the sauna and steam room were out of action when we were there, although they did call us to let us know
Review 74:The staff are delightful, the food is excellent, the gym is good, the pool is nice. Really, the staff make it.
Review 75:Staff were exceptional - everyone was friendly and they couldn't have been more helpful. Special mention to Gemma - thank you for the tools and moral support!
Review 76:The weather! It rained all weekend which meant we were unable to take advantage of the outside facilities
Review 77:The bed was so comfy and the bathroom in our suite was amazing, very relaxing
Review 78:Service at the tables outside was extremely slow, more staff required. Access to the spa far too expensive at £50 a person so we just used the swimming pool which is free.
Review 79:Great facilities for a leisure stay, we used the swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Would also recommend dinner in the restaurant on site, food was delicious and service very good. Rooms spacious and very comfortable and wifi worked well, which I find is hit and miss in hotels these days.
Review 80:Poor customer service, room wasn't ready, despite asking for early check in. Room was half an hour later than advertised check in time. In the morning breakfast constantly had to ask for things like milk to go with tea, a menu, spoon for cereal
Review 81:Lovely hotel, lovely rooms and food
Review 82:Waiting for taxi. Maybe a shuttle to the racecourse ??
Review 83:Attention to detail. Great tea and coffe in the room with proper milk. Staff were lovely and breakfast was great.
Review 84:I was extremely dissapointed that the leisure facilities were closed for maintenance. This was not communicated to us, we booked this accommodation for the facilities and therefore it spoilt part of our stay.
Review 85:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 86:The bed was so comfortable, it was soft and seemed to wrap itself around you. The breakfast was extremely good, full of flavour with poached eggs nice and soft as they should be. The staff were all cheerful and very helpful.
Review 87:No changing facilities for babies in swimming pool, was a real struggle to go swimming with our 6 month old daughter.
Review 88:Wonderful staff really friendly and a lovely hotel in a great area.
Review 89:It was my mum's birthday. So I sent her and my dad to see Tom Jones at Newmarket and stayed in the Bedford lodge and spa. They both had a great day.
Review 90:Found bar staff unapproachable at times and standoffish. Never came over to see if you wanted anything when we sat down, had to go to them & felt unwelcome.
Review 91:The receptionists on main desk are lovely and exceptionally efficient. Made you feel very welcome as a large group. Well trained. Hotel beautiful
Review 92:Even though I informed the hotel in advance that my daughter is a vegan, the restaurant was unprepared. She had to make do with a very expensive, boring risotto which was quite tasteless.
Review 93:The rooms were clean and comfortable. We enjoyed using the pool, but unfortunately the jacuzzi was out of order.
Review 94:Would have liked some decaffeinated tea but just being picky. Fruit and herbal teas were available.
Review 95:Good location. Plenty of parking. Excellent facilities. Lovely comfortable room and excellent breakfast. Attentive staff.
Review 96:Never had a bad experience. However the last time we used the pool facilities it looked like it was having an update.
Review 97:My boyfriend and I have stay in the Bedford Lodge 3 times now. Its so beautiful and never dissapoints. We love everything about it. The staff are attentive and couldn't do more to help. The atmosphere is wonderful and the food is amazing!
Review 98:far to expensive for what we used for a one night sleep over and breakfast! We gave stayed in London hotels that have cost at least £100 less or more with more atmosphere.
Review 99:Staff quite polite
Review 100:Would like to see a shaving mirror in the bathroom
Review 101:Very comfortable bed, gym and pool were great and good menu choice on the evening meal. Liked the fresh milk and water in the fridge. Staff are very accommodating.
Review 102:Room had multiple scuff marks on walls and floors, could've been easily removed; Wanted to leave a night early to send some time in London before my return flight, had to pay for the last night anyway. Wifi barely worked in my room, had to sit next to my door or lobby if I was working in the hotel. Paid almost $300 for a naked room, more like a budget room than luxury lodge and spa.
Review 103:Room staff was very friendly; Free water in your room every day; Beautiful grounds; Great town if you like equestrian sports
Review 104:A bit of a slow check out the following morning, there were a lot of people queuing to pay, so make sure you get to Reception before the 11am checkout rushhour! Great reception staff though !
Review 105:Great staff, great breakfast and lovely waitress who couldn't do enough for us. We even managed to eat on the terrace under one of the large umbrellas despite the pouring rain! A very busy weekend with the carnival and a wedding but all staff seems to manage fantastically well and with smiles on their faces
Review 106:Nothing
Review 107:Every thing lovely hotel we have stayed 7 times now and every time is perfect , great food friendly staff and the most important thing very nice rooms
Review 108:Absolutely nothing!
Review 109:5* experience from the moment we entered the car park. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were all welcoming and cheerful. Our room was an absolute delight, so quiet and relaxed, with a dual aspect looking out over the Godolphin yard. It's a place that's in my book to visit again.
Review 110:I cant actually fault the stay. Will be returning.
Review 111:First class customer service and attention to details. Nice airy room, clean, well presented. Moulton Brown and bathrobes! 24hr room service. Food nom nom...*Master chef*
Review 112:I was surprised to find the WiFi did not reach into our hotel room, worked fine in the bar but this isn't always ideal for working
Review 113:Staff were very friendly and helpful and always plenty of people around willing to help
Review 114:The squires restaurant was expensive and was a little on the fussy side for me. I had the sea bass, but there were about five mouthfuls of fish and a few vegs dotted around. The hotel itself is not cheap, so despite the high quality, be prepared to pay up. Newmarket is very run down, so despite the area surround hotel being very green, the town is something to be avoided.
Review 115:Easy location from London, with great facilities in attractive grounds staff were friendly and rooms were to a high standard as you would expect. Breakfast was first rate.
Review 116:Nothing major but one of our meals in the bar Sunday night was not hot enough ( both in taste - chilli too bland and in temp!)
Review 117:The horses The spa The friendly ,helpful and efficient staff The bedroom and bar areas
Review 118:The only thing we didn't like was that there were far too many disturbances by members of the house keeping staff that weren't required. If anything, they were a bit too keen....which isn't always a bad thing, but was slightly irritating on this occassion!!
Review 119:didn't like food ordered mix up and no one answering at reception at 3.30 whIch I consider a prime time
Review 120:I liked the cleanliness I wasn't overly fond of my ordered going wrong for room service. Over priced
Review 121:Leaving
Review 122:The staff were so nice and thoughtful and genuinely cared! The food was amazing! The room was fantastic! Couldn't find one fault with the place 10 out of 10
Review 123:Couldn't identify any faults
Review 124:Very competitive rate for the suite we occupied. Beautifully kept grounds, excellent food and relaxing atmosphere, we will be staying here again!
Review 125:Breakfast was a bit mediocre; not very hot and obviously pre-cooked. Nice enough though.
Review 126:Room was spotless and very comfortable. Staff were all first class. Evening dinner was expensive but worth the money.
Review 127:It was not explained that the spa is a completely separate thing. Please be aware that whilst the hotel website advertising this amazing spa - it's a completely separate & charged at £45 per person!
Review 128:The hotel & grounds are beautiful.
Review 129:Location and facilities. Shame there were no spa treatments available but it didn't spoil the 2 nights we were there. Food was excellent too.
Review 130:The restaurant offers a pub menu with top end restaurant prices but food is just average, although we use hotel a couple of times a year I will not be using the restaurant again
Review 131:Location friendliness of staff
Review 132:The hotel was ok but nothing to shout about. Lovely grounds and there is a good gym. The breakfast is brilliant but the evening food is average. The bar menu is overpriced. The staff are delightful. The rooms are fine but the bathroom we had was outdated and a little on the shabby side.
Review 133:The spa is fantastic but it is not part of the hotel. Booking.com featured a photo of the spa as part of its collection of photos of the hotel. We cannot rate the spa highly enough. It is well worth booking in for a treatment and spending the day there but you can do this and stay somewhere else.
Review 134:Jacuzzi was broken but the steam and sauna made up for it.
Review 135:Very warm welcome on arrival Monday 27th April. Upgrade to a superior room was a lovely surprise. Wandered into Newmarket for Brunch and came back to use fantastic Gym and pool. Gym was most impressive. Brekkie next day was lovely. We didnt wanna leave. One regret was missing out on Mojito by Chris in the bar.
Review 136:The queue to check out was horrendous, and the when my partner asked one of the staff members whether there was any way to check out quicker, as she was worried about being late for work, the response "the queue is the queue" was not at all expected and frankly very rude
Review 137:For the money we paid the room was rather standard however it was clean with a lovely view. The facilities are excellent and the location is superb.
The Fine Print
Guests are requested to book a table prior to arrival if they wish to dine within the restaurant. This can be done within the Special Request box when making a booking.Use of the spa is not included in the room rate.
