Reviews for The Queens Hotel St Ives
Review 1:Room was supposed to be a superior room but was very basic and there was nothing superior about it. We even queried the room to be told yes it was a superior room. The top rooms with beams are very nice as I've been shown these before but they weren't available. Our room certainly wasn't superior! The public hallways and stairs are very dark, painted a very dark green and look quite tired and the public toilets off of the bar/restaurant area weren't nice at all. Such a shame as the first impressions of the bar and restaurant on entering the hotel were lovely. We wouldn't stay again based on the room we had.
Review 2:The bar/restaurant and food were lovely. I'd recommend a drink or meal here.
Review 3:Nothing bad but maybe an extractor fan in the en suite to combat the little condensation mould but understandable considering the age of the property.
Review 4:Lovely old building full of character close to the harbour of St.Ives. Staff friendly and very good value at £59
Review 5:Rooms were very noisy & made for disrupted sleep. Our bathroom had black mould on the walls above the shower - this can be a dangerous mould so thorough cleaning is a must. Light switch on bathroom mirror not working. Glass shelf not level - objects rolledoff. Layout of our room 3 resulted in impailed legs given narrow gap between main bed & wall. Duvet cover too small for bed. Extremely warm in room & centralised thermostat in hallway was a "fail". No alternative access other than stairs!
Review 6:Food quality was very good to excellent. Staff in bar / restaurant were very good & genuinely welcoming.
Review 7:Bed had a big dip in it & when I told a member of staff they said they would try & remember to turn the mattress. Not much good to me when I had slept on it for 2 nights & had to put in 2 days work.
Review 8:Comfortable room & lovely breakfast & friendly staff.
Review 9:The particular room we had was not like the photos. The decor felt like a backpacker hostel more than a hotel.
Review 10:Great location. Good shower. Fireside breakfast was very nice.
Review 11:>Not able to get a xmas dinner on christmas eve ,although booked dinner by email - disappointing >No food available or drink on christmas day evening/or lunchtime for residents >The hotel communal areas need updating and not well cared for
Review 12:>The staff were lovely >Food great >Ideal location
Review 13:No electric in the room in morning but unable to sort it. No offer of a reduction in rate. Also although we did turn up an hour early for check in was greeted by a unfriendly man who couldn't be bothered with us and said can't check inbefore 3pm. We were going to have lunch but after that just walked off and eat elsewhere. :( lacking in customer service
Review 14:The town
Review 15:Steep stairs to the top two rooms. Both rooms were fairly cold, especially room 7 although room 8 was provided with an extra electric heater. 8.30am breakfast was a little to late.
Review 16:Location was excellent. Great breakfast. Helpful staff.
Review 17:mattress had a big dip in it which made sleeping uncomfortable No parking & quite a distance to car park carrying cases in pouring rain
Review 18:good breakfast
Review 19:Superior room it was not. Shower blocked and they knew that before we arrived. Toilet rocked not fixed correctly. Had to exit bathroom quickly when window cleaner arrived.
Review 20:Location was great.
Review 21:Room was tiny! Struggled to move around the bed with out banging into the wall or the bed frame. Shower doors opened out against the wall so very awkward to get in and out of shower.
Review 22:The only great thing about this hotel is the location
Review 23:No parking Had to climb a few flights of steps to access room. Stairwell was dark and had a faint smell. Did not think it was 4 star calibre but was good value for money in November.
Review 24:Service with a smile Good size room Very close to the harbour/good location Well decorated Good breakfast
Review 25:Having to leave!
Review 26:Cosy, comfortable, welcoming. Central location 8 mins stroll from rail station and even closer to the harbour. Take the train, cars are a burden in St Ives! Had a front bedroom and a very good sleep. Kettle and very full tray of hot drinks in room plus tv. Hot shower before Full Cornish breakfast with top quality local food plus filter coffee, cereals, yoghurt and fruit available. Many good cafes in town but I chose to return to Queens Hotel for a very fresh and perfectly cooked fish & chips lunch. The bar area has a very special friendly atmosphere.
Review 27:The car park,, yet if I'd of known there was one nearer,, instead of up the hill, I'd of used it, plus I believe hotel users shouldn't have to pay parking on top of accommodation
Review 28:It was very clean , friendly & I'd go again with not a 2nd thought
Review 29:8:30 is too late to start breakfast.Even in November the waitress was rushed to serve all the quests and this led to slow service.Perhaps an earlier start time would avoid a rush.
Review 30:Very comfortable bedroom.Quiet despite location in the centre of St.Ives
Review 31:Only the radiator cover was broken which would not have taken long to fix. There was no car parking which was a pain. We had to pay £7.00 for 24hrs in the local car park at St Ives.
Review 32:Food for dinner was excellent. I had lamb which was cooked to perfection. My husband had beautiful fish in batter with lovely home made chips. The breakfast was really tasty with fresh fruit salad, fruit juice, cereals and the best part 'gluten free' cereals. Staff were friendly.
Review 33:The noise from the high street late at night giving us disturbed sleep, we had a room facing the front overlooking the high street and the late night drinkers were loud, the 2nd night we closed out window and used a fan as the room was very hot.
Review 34:Perfect location, walking distance to everything. Lovely hotel and the staff were great. Breakfast was lovely and relaxed atmosphere.
Review 35:N/a
Review 36:The staff were all really friendly amd made me feel very welcome amd comfortable. The hotel was well placed amd comfortable, excellent value for money.
Review 37:Not told absolutely nowhere to park near hotel, cost over £50 to leave car in train station car park for four nights. Nightmare. Also lost another £6.50 for putting wrong amount in machine. Room chilly, noisy, definitely not a 4 * star hotel.
Review 38:Food reasonable but very expensive
Review 39:The only negative was shouting late at night & loud music coming from staff quarters below our room. I did not complain because i didn't want to make a fuss.
Review 40:The location was fantastic as we came to St Ives for a family wedding in the town itself.
Review 41:room 6 overlooked the road hence it was quite noisy in the evening/nightime. the room itself was good so no other complaints
Review 42:location was good. also the breakfast was very good too. the staff were very helpful at all times.
Review 43:Mould on bathroom ceiling. Bed very near radiator and due to bed surround, very easy to knock legs. No views. Staff unfamiliar with gluten free foods at breakfast - request made on booking.
Review 44:Location. Evening meal good.
Review 45:Bed was a little uncomfortable and the pillows unsupportive, but that could just be our preference.
Review 46:Great location in the centre of St Ives, modern clean rooms, friendly staff, good breakfast.
Review 47:Brilliant staff. I asked them to put a puppy on the bed for my partner (as a joke) and they actually went out and got a toy puppy and put it on the bed before we checked in. Amazing. Their bacon and eggs are very nice too.
Review 48:There was a bit of damage to the radiator cover and some marks on the walls but once reported to the management we were assured these would be attended to. I have every faith that these would be attended to. It was perfectly adequate for one night. Maybe the other rooms were nicer from looking at other photos?? We had room 2.
Review 49:The location is perfect, right in the middle of St Ives. The pub is lovely and the breakfast was good. Room was quiet despite being on the main street. Park your car in the train station (and overnight) as you can't really stop outside the pub, but it is a short walk away so it didn't bother us. I would stay here again. Facilities were good.
Review 50:Staff very rude. Hotel pictures showed water view. Staff denied it till we showed them the picture on booking.com. Basically rooms over a bar. Rooms tiny, we asked to upgrade and were told no
Review 51:Location
Review 52:Without doubt ALL the staff were very professional & extremely friendly, from the moment we entered we were made to feel special, no matter what we asked the reply came with a smile. When we left we were very sad because it felt we were leaving our new friends behind. Hopefully we will see them all next year.
Review 53:That we had to leave.
Review 54:The staff were wonderful, the room was fantastic and really clean. The breakfast was better than any we have recently. The atmosphere at night was just wonderful. The whole experience was Pure perfection!!
Review 55:Rooms are a bit small and sparingly furnished. Don't expect quiet evenings on the weekends, live music plays from the restaurant downstairs and party-goers are out front until 2-3am.
Review 56:Location couldn't be more convenient to downtown St. Ives. Decent cooked breakfast.
Review 57:It's perfect being on the high street as you're close to everything, including a good night life! The breakfast in the morning was amazing - can't fault it, even have gluten free options! We stayed in a superior room and its well worth the little extra money. Would definitely come again!
Review 58:This hotel is not a luxury hotel as described. It is a normal B & B. It is expensive for what you get. The car parking it terrible - none on site so you have to park on the edge of town and walk in (if you can find a space). We were there for 3 nights and spent over £20 on parking.
Review 59:Great location
Review 60:Room was not clean - cobwebs on window and really dusty on top of shelf where put my bag which was dust covered when I brought it down. Really poor especially after paying top dollar .
Review 61:The facility was old, the room was small and dated and it was up a marathon of 3 flights of stairs. The cost was high.
Review 62:the location of the hotel was close to the water front and the had a good breakfast
Review 63:The only negative about our stay was when we were shown to our lovely room , the climb up the 3 flights of steep stairs - could have been a problem for some
Review 64:Breakfast and staff were excellent.Location excellent. Food available in the pub was excellent value and live music provided on the Saturday evening we were there.
Review 65:Check in time could be 2pm. 3 pm was far too late
Review 66:Liked everything about it. Linen was pure white, clean and hygienic. U will find all bathroom amenities.
Review 67:It was noisy outside at night. It would have been helpful if I had been told it was necessary to book the evening meal. As there was no availability I had to eat elsewhere.
Review 68:The location of the hotel
Review 69:Hmm well it was a bit noisy but thats to be expected in a central location but mainly lack of car parking space and negotiating the small roads and one way traffic system.
Review 70:The staff were very friendly and helpful, especially at meal times, as I require a gluten free diet, the hotel itself being in a very central location and in easy walking distance of the harbour.
Review 71:I think what you pay for is location. The rooms are ok but not worth the price, very basic and bed was not comfy. What bothered me most was the noise: our room faced the street and since this is a central location we got our share of loud drink people walking back at night. Also, there are cars. So if you look for a relaxing/quiet place, this is not it.
Review 72:Excellent location close to the harbour, really good breakfast.
Review 73:Breakfast was too early and only on for 1hr. Also had to check out at 10.30, which again is too early. Very noisy too, being in the centre.
Review 74:The room was excellent.
Review 75:Windows need to be double glazed because each morning woke up at 5:30am by loud seagulls and bottle bins being moved.
Review 76:Fab location, lovely decor and great food :)
Review 77:Our room was at the very top of the Hotel, it was really hard to sleep as the Sea Gulls were squealing, squawking and running across the roof all night, we couldn't really close the window has it was so hot, they had provided a fan, but this was noisy so defeated object, in the end closed window and sweated, also from around 6.00am not exactly sure of the time but it was now light, there was banging noises non stop, gave up on sleep, left feeling exhausted. Not really sure why it is called a Hotel more like an Inn.
Review 78:The girl who met us on arrival was very nice, also the lady who served breakfast.
Review 79:The breakfast was very good even for me who does not like hot English Breakfast. This place gave me the best breakfast experience of all the places we visited on our trip in Cornwall
Review 80:Difficult because of no parking facilities, but staff were helpful by offering to unload car before we found a car park.
Review 81:Very clean rooms and very friendly staff. Position of the hotel is great.
Review 82:We were on the top floor and the Wifi was sort of hit or miss.
Review 83:The staff were terrific as well as the pub located below the rooms. We ate an amazing roast dinner there one night as well.
Review 84:Tricky if you take a car! But then again most places in St Ives are. Mobile phone signal very iffy throughout St Ives!
Review 85:Located in the heart of St Ives. Good food. Good ales, wine and cider. Great staff.
Review 86:Needs air conditioning as rooms get very warm Too many steps for older people and people with walking difficulties
Review 87:Room was clean well stocked beds were very soft although a little low down for us with only 1 chair
Review 88:Bed was a little small and uncomfortable but that's just down to personal preference.
Review 89:Fabulous hotel, great location, staff brilliant and really welcoming. Breakfast was amazing and so much choice, served with a smile every morning.
Review 90:Lovey, friendly staff. Bedroom had a seaside feel ad was clean and bright. Breakfast was delicious. Restaurant served excellent food in the evening
Review 91:The room was very clean and comfortable. Tastefully decorated in a nautical theme. The breakfasts were outstanding and the evening meals were also very good. Everything was made easy especially as we had a 9 month old!
Review 92:Friendly helpful staff - both Kirsty and Tracey very accommodating with gluten free meal options. Restaurant menu lovely and food was great. Great location.
Review 93:The room needs updating and painting. They tried shabby chic but some furniture are more shabby than chic.
Review 94:The location was very central, staff was very friendly and the breakfast was very good.
Review 95:Maple syrup with the breakfast porridge would be nice Pop muzak at breakfast - chill out ambient music, low key jazz, or none, would be more relaxing. Was it staff taste rather than customers? I think so by the look of the customers!
Review 96:Great staff, friendly and went out of their way to help me with all I needed . Tasteful decor without being over the top. Comfy bed. Nice personal independent feel about the place.
Review 97:I was surprised that the bar was closed before 11 but I think that has more to do with Cornwall than anything else.
Review 98:The location was excellent as were the staff and it had a great feel to the place.
Review 99:Not applicable but cornish weather horrible which is our long term experience of visiting this county at many different times of the year over many years----35 to be precise.
Review 100:The staff in the hotel and St Ives is a lovely olde worlde seaside town
Review 101:This accommodation was not the standard of a superior double room it wasa cramped family room, in short we were royally ripped off. It is a pubwith rooms not an hotel. Please make sure you describe this as such infuture. It certainly did not represent good value for money. I am verydisappointed and will not use you service again.
Review 102:Good breakfast
Review 103:Highly recommend the Sunday roast beef lunch and breakfast! Staff friendly and efficient. Room lovely, quiet and clean. Great location for visiting the town. Parking - recommend parking at Park View car park and walking down into the town - about a 4 min walk. Other car parks closer were v busy.
Review 104:The only thing I would change is maybe the colour of the hallway leading to the rooms. Also the door in from the street to the allyway smelt a little of urine.
Review 105:Very attentive staff as my partner was dairy free the staff went above and beyond to bring dairy free butter and milk. The room was very calming and had lovely decore. The bed was amazingly comfortable!!! I also now want the mattress as my nights sleep was one of the best I have ever had outside the comfort of my own home.
Review 106:Gets a little loud on Saturday nights and a little warm in the rooms but they're fans avalable
Review 107:Great tea making facilities, nice big rooms, comfy beds and great location.
Review 108:Room & en suite very compact. Also were on top floor with many stairs with both of us having dodgy knees. Not the hotels fault though. Also nearest parking up a very long steep hill.
Review 109:Breakfast was superb.
Review 110:Location- right on the High St a mere 450 yards down the hill from the railway station. Being a pub too, great for drinks, lunch etc. Very friendly staff.
Review 111:We had to leave as our holiday was over.
Review 112:Lee behind the bar was brilliant. He took our case early and managed to get our room sorted early for us. Nothing was too much bother for him. Tracey the lady at breakfast had managed to source some dairy free products for me and I wasn't charged extra for them. Again nothing was too much bother. We will be back for sure.
Review 113:The staff at the Queens Hotel were always very helpful and welcoming; the food is excellent. The bedroom was really comfortable, although smaller than I had imagined, it was absolutely fine and everything was very clean!
Review 114:Had to park 10 minutes away as does not have own parking. You have to load/unload in high street which is very busy and narrow road
Review 115:Excellent location
Review 116:The room was a bit too hot for the first too nights, the thermostat for all rooms is downstairs so not sure if someone had been playing with it. A few seagulls liked the ledges outside the room early in the morning which was a bit annoying but not the hotels fault!
Review 117:We visited for a wedding at the bottom of the road so the location was perfect for that but also for making your way around the town. Breakfast was great, the host and other staff were great too. We had a superior room which was spotlessly clean and big enough for the both of us for 4 nights. Thoroughly enjoyable weekend.
Review 118:Love the pub room atmosphere, excellent location, food is great, breakfast is fabulous, helpful staff. Would definitely book there again. So happy I found this hotel. Only drawback is the touch and go WiFi in the rooms. Fine in the dining area.
Review 119:We didn't have bad experience but we were disappointed that evening meals weren't available.
Review 120:Excellent locality Easy walk of everything we wanted to do
Review 121:The Queens Hotel is central to the town and otherwise fitted all my needs. I would come back again. My regards to the very friendly staff. Clive Baker
Review 122:Problem for me getting up all those stairs should have bannister on both sides! Poor service at breakfast one person by herself and therefore customers (18) all at the same time were left waiting - not her fault! Food quality and portion wasn't very good and not very hot! No one to take payment until after 10 again not good!
Review 123:Initial greeting by very friendly lady! She was again by herself and took us up 3 flights of stairs while trying to look after the bar as well
Review 124:Just a bit tired and the rooms in general could do with a good clean. The main business is a pub/restaurant therefore the accommodation feels more akin to a B&B - just not at B&B prices!!!
Review 125:Location and friendliness of staff.
Review 126:A little bit "unpersonal". Nice enough staff, but clearly "only doing a job".
Review 127:Nice clean room - although completely without a view. Nice pub with very good food, both the sunday roast and the breakfast. Nice, central location in a very nice town (but don't expect a sea view).
Review 128:there wasn't anything we didn't like
Review 129:Lauren - the lovely lady who served us breakfast every morning was fantastic. She arranged for my daughter to have a birthday cake after hearing about it from my 4 year old son. Lauren was an absolute star!
Review 130:No hotel car park and parking for whole town limited and expensive. Must be a nightmare in school holidays.
Review 131:First trip to Cornwall and a lovely location to stay. Pretty town and harbour, which is an excellent base for touring peninsula.
Review 132:Loos in the bar need attention. Wife didn't work for me on top floor but fine in bar.
Review 133:Loved the shabby chic feel. Staff were lovely. Excellent location.
Review 134:Good breakfast! Room sound-proofed against seagulls! Clean. Lots of towels. Friendly staff. Looked after our bags after check out so we didn't have to carry them all day. Wish we tried the evening menu too as it looked scrumptious!
Review 135:Bathroom door handle/lock was hard to close - may need oiling!
Review 136:The room was clean, bed was really comfy. Perfect location for exploring at ives at a good price. Breakfast was nice with a good range, Sunday roast was lovely, very tasty beef with lots of veg. Helpful and friendly staff, would go again.
