Reviews for Stirling Youth Hostel
Review 1:I have been there so often I know what to expect. the staff are friendly and have come to recognise me. The location is very convenient for most things and also as a base for central Scotland.
Review 2:The location is a bit hard to find and had to go up a long steep road, not entirely pleasant if you have a big heavy backpack with you. Staff was friendly but often absent at the reception desk.
Review 3:Very near to the Stirling Castle and the old town. Nice kitchen and even had some free food in the fridge. The room was basic and alright for the value.
Review 4:Could not control heat. Was a liitle chilly. Shoulx have asked for help.
Review 5:Staff friendly and eager to help. Washer and dryer next to my room and working properly. Good, filling breakfast.
Review 6:- there was sometimes a strange humm present, sounded like really massive air conditioning, I didn´t mind much, but it might be disturbing for some people - The price for dorm was not as low as hostels usually are
Review 7:- Good facilities and nice location next to the castle - lockers for padlock in rooms
Review 8:The wifi was very borderline, even in public areas coverage poor & non existent in rooms.
Review 9:Location of hostel, old historical building. Communal kitchen very handy.
Review 10:Absolutely brilliant location in the heart of Stirling, just a short walk from the castle and historic buildings. Also has parking which was a bonus for us
Review 11:heating only came on in the nighttime and only on the days it was very cold.
Review 12:Very friendly knowledgable staff. Room 101 huge windows with lovely rooftop view over Stirling. Really powerful shower lots of hot water.
Review 13:Excellent location with excellent views staff friendly and talkative staff always striving to make your stay as Pleasant as possible can't wait to get back and stay once again
Review 14:Beds were terribly uncomfortable and squeaky. The shower had no heat setting and was scolding hot. There are no shared bathrooms so we were stuck with this shower in our room. The radiator could not be adjusted and was set to max heat.
Review 15:Friendly staff and good location. Good kitchen.
Review 16:The plumbing was not good (the sink took a long time to empty and the loo flush was temperamental) and very smelly. There were only 9 or 10 parking places in the hostel car park and we had to leave our car out of sight in the city centre both nights we stayed, which was a worry.
Review 17:The hostel was very well placed for walking to the town centre.
Review 18:The beds were not super comfy.
Review 19:Very good location, free Wi-Fi, free parking. We were allowed to leave the car in the car park while we explored the area after check out.
Review 20:Hard to find when arriving at night. Water in room sink was not potable. Shower water scalding hot and not adjustable. Wifi only in ground floor dining room.
Review 21:good location.
Review 22:The location is great if you're goal is to be near the top of the great hill near the castle. The downside is that you are on top of the hill near the castle.
Review 23:I found the rooms acceptable for a youth hostel, but 146 British pounds on a Saturday night for 3 people was still a bit steep even for the middle of July. Friendly staff, good location.
Review 24:High price in comparison to hotels and B&Bs that offer breakfasts for the same price, no internet in the rooms
Review 25:Location, big double room, two pillows for every bed
Review 26:Advertise parking but only 8 spots and a couple are used by the staff (who won't move for you). Wifi didn't get up to the rooms on the first floor.
Review 27:Great location and price. Great kitchen facilities as well. Gorgeous facade on the building.
Review 28:you do have to pay for the Wifi its not free
Review 29:we had a very nice stay we booked for the en-suite room (3 people) the bed were ready for us and the towels were included, nice building and really near the castle ! staff are nice
Review 30:Room wasn't very clean, the sink had hair in it and looked pretty scummy. Wifi was available in common area but did not reach our room.
Review 31:Location was great, staff was fantastic, amazing price and beautiful building. Parking available if you arrive early.
Review 32:The wifi was non existent, lights in the rooms were so dim that at night I had to move to the top bunk to read as it was too dark trying to read on the bottom bunk. Breakfast is not the best value around.
Review 33:Location was excellent. Very close to castle, holy rude, prison and town centre. Staff were very helpful and polite
Review 34:- one of the beds had grey hairs, meaning it wasn't changed - bed lights don't work - there is no wood between the bed net and the mattress which contributes to being uncomfortable - the wifi does not work in the rooms so shouldn't be advertised as being available everywhere - room windows should be open before guests arrival (smelled bad) - should include in hotel description that you have to take the linen downstairs at the end of your stay
Review 35:- the staff in general, in particular the kitchen staff - new furniture, decent lockers - good shower
Review 36:Small room, bunk beds, and very frustrating water-saving shower which requires a restart about every minute. No free Wi-fi, which should be included given the price of the room.
Review 37:This hostel is about a block from Stirling Castle. Friendly, very helpful staff.
Review 38:a very loud noise from the pub next door. It was difficult to find parking space, have to wait till around 11.00pm to get one.
Review 39:The staffs were friendly
Review 40:Poor maintance of signiture monument in front of SYHA, Lack of drinking water in private rooms , could not brush teeth No sun deck or outside seating.
Review 41:Location and staff
Review 42:I drove my car as did a lot of people and not enough parking on the grounds but you can park on the street which is safe but will be charged from 9 o'clock in the morning.
Review 43:Everything is on your doorstep. It was quiet and very clean and friendly. A good stop over if you are in stifling.
Review 44:The WiFi is very expensive at 1 pound per 20 min. However I really needed it so I had to pay for this. But it turned out the WiFi couldn't work at all. Although I was refunded the amount, I was now without access to internet. Recept wasn't really helpful or friendly, just shrugged off. First greeting no map given, no introduction, no showing the facilities. I had to ask. The chef John is much more friendly and warm, he should be the Recept instead. Shower room has nowhere to hang towel or clothes.
Review 45:Dorm room with ensuite bathroom. Wash basin inside room
Review 46:Bedding was not even ironed or overly fresh what made me feel someone has alredy used the linen before us. No coffee or tea in the room ( for the price)
Review 47:Good location. Generally clean hostel. Friendly and nice staff.
Review 48:fantastic low price for such a splendid location right up near castle and Holy Rude Church (check out amazing old church-yard!). Accommodation is clean and comfortable, staff are really friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was a good start to the day. Really recommend this as place to stay.
Review 49:We felt it was expensive having to pay for the four beds in the dorm when there were two adults with a seven year old child. We could have stayed in a hotel cheaper! Had to park out on the street. Some difficulty finding a parking space. Didn't like the creaking floor in the dorm. They were very noisy.
Review 50:Not very clean. You have to pay for the WIFI (1£ for 20 minutes it is pretty expensive ...)
Review 51:Very good location (close from the castle and direct in the city center)
Review 52:There was no free wifi available and the paid wifi was very expensive and didn't work anyway
Review 53:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful The bedroom was warm and comfortable and the kitchen was great and had everything we needed And the location could not be beaten being so central to everything
Review 54:Very nice accommodation. I visited the castle to view the Scottish tapestry. Very impressed - will be back in the summer, when more places are open. Elsie Belfast
Review 55:Inadequate communication from staff. Not told that on arrival that breakfast needed to be pre-booked & treated as though we were a bit 'odd' when we asked about it in the morning. Didn't like the lethal shelves on the bed heads - several ouches! Was very hot in the night - perhaps could save money by turning down heat overnight. Booking.com said bedding was available for a small charge - so we took sleeping bags & pillows unnecessarily. Perhaps needs updating to bedding but not towels included - it was good that bedding was included - but as we were trying to save car space, would have liked to know.
Review 56:Cheap, adequate.
Review 57:Shower room has no place to hang your clothes and there was merely a curtain and no doors.
Review 58:Location is great (just have to walk up the hill), near the castle, museum and just minutes away from the city centre.
Review 59:the one way system of roads.
Review 60:was easy enough to find in town near the castle. good for self catering. We ate in Wetherspoons nice n cheap. Really old building in old town but modern inside.
Review 61:Shower had no door but only a very transparent shower curtain. We were with our adult daughter so privacy in shower not possible. Had to put towel over curtain railing. Shower temperature cannot be controlled. All the doors squeaked. Old church building so no lift. Renovation going on n they started very early in morning. check out time 9.30am. Breakfast not included.
Review 62:Very convenient, 5 minutes to town. Free parking. kitchen was big n well stocked with utensils. Friendly staff.
Review 63:Alas, as in almost all urban hostels - very steep stairs, on which it is necessary to lug a suitcase. With Wi-Fi, too, something did not work, even for money ...However, it really is the little things.
Review 64:The location is perfect, a beautiful old building, at the same time very modern equipment, the inside is clean and cozy. Got a room with a magnificent view - just super! Very functional and comfortable shower. Free parking is also happy. In general, I can recommend not only for austerity, but also sufficient for comfort and even pleasure.
Review 65:A lot of stair to arrive to flats. No lift available.
Review 66:Good views form rooms in 2nd flat, large rooms, two independent beds. Dinning room for quality breakfast. You can cook tour own meal if you like.
Review 67:Somewhat overpriced. Had only hot water in sink faucet(no cold), and were advised Not to drink faucet water. The night we arrived there was a large group of 13-14 year olds who were very noisy; but that could happen anywhere.
Review 68:Great location & we were able to book a room for 3 people.
Review 69:they could have done a better job at cleaning the toilet before check-in
Review 70:a short walk from the castle, very friendly staff. The wifi was not working well and she was very honest about it so we did not have to waste money paying for it. Plenty of parking.
Review 71:the staff is so nice
Review 72:Perfect location for everything. The two male members of staff at reception couldn't have been more helpful.
Review 73:Well equipped kitchen and attractive dining area. Location - right in town. Warm - easy to dry out wet clothes. Friendly staff.

Review 100:Being awakened at 3am by a drunk kicking my bed saying I was in his bed. It turns out the staff had double booked the bed.
Review 101:Not much.
Review 102:The mattress on the bed was hard and a bit lumpy. A mattress cover would have helped.
