Reviews for Botany Bay Hotel
Review 1:The hairdryer is not great, and the shower didn't have much pressure. Bath filled in less than five minutes however!
Review 2:Friendly staff, who upgraded us for free as it was our first wedding anniversary. Beautiful location, great food, lovely room.
Review 3:We were offered an upgrade before arrival to a superior room with a balcony but when we arrived the offer was rescinded without a good explanation. A little disappointing to an otherwise good break.
Review 4:Lovely bar and restaurant. The rooms were clean, spacious and modern.
Review 5:Nothing
Review 6:Everything.Outstanding value for money and location ..Everything you needed was provided.Food was good with large portions and good variety of food available for breakfast. The staff were superb .
Review 7:We have driven whole day from Scotland since 6 am when we arrived to the hotel it was quite late. There is a function on at the hotel that night. Our room was noisy. Not until 11:30pm when we able to get some sleep. The next morning about 5 am, we got woken up by some kind of electronical machine outside our room. If we are on holiday, noise is not too much of an issue. We just have to claim this as an unfortunate events
Review 8:Staff are good quick response. Beautiful location.
Review 9:Long way out of Broadstairs, need to take your car as the position of the hotel is a bit isolated although it has fantastic coastal views so do not let this put you off
Review 10:Good food, large car park and a comfortable room
Review 11:Early (7:30) breakfast was needed but earliest we could get was 7:45. This arrived 10 minutes late and we was therefore unable to eat it properly. .
Review 12:Location and good standard of comfort ....great early check in available.
Review 13:Service at breakfast could have been more prompt, had to wait quite some time for anyone to ask if we required tea /coffee and provide menus, but a minor quibble.
Review 14:Lovely spacious room with a great sea view, immaculate and had everything we needed.
Review 15:Did not sleep very well due to bathroom window being broken and unable to lock especially as it opened out onto a flat You home okay???? that was a fire escape. Someone did come up to look at it but nobody there to actually fix it ???
Review 16:staff very friendly and welcoming, room nice but dimly lit? breakfast amazing?
Review 17:Everything was fantastic. We had a lovely clean room with a beautiful view, great food- especially the extensive breakfast menu- and lovely staff. Location was brilliant for long walks. Second visit and will definitely be going soon. A real bonus is that we can take our dog too.
Review 18:Couldn't fault our stay at the hotel at all.
Review 19:Excellent location & very very friendly & helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff.
Review 20:Not enough plugs in room , shower not hot enough but passable without fuss
Review 21:Good all round hotel staff pleasant and location excellent Just far enough out of Margate to be quiet and peaceful
Review 22:No lounge to sit in ( quietly) . Not a hotel but a restaurant with rooms. Noisy rooms at night, sound proofing in rooms were terrible. Staff not user friendly
Review 23:The bedrooms were well presented
Review 24:Had to send a meal back as it was cold but was addressed immediately and staff could not have been more apologetic. Noise from a wedding reception being held downstairs.
Review 25:Location
Review 26:The breakfast was not nice. Full English , the meats and fruits were not of the best quality .
Review 27:Room was well maintained and size just what we wanted. Friendly staff and spacious restaurant with good dinners. Location by the coast but not close to towns.
Review 28:Only thing we didn't like was the pillows
Review 29:This is a beautiful hotel, with great views, although we don't have a dog, it was lovely to see all the dogs that are welcome into the hotel
Review 30:One night there was a lot of noise - sounded like tables were being dragged around or barrels. Gave us a poor night's sleep. We had to move rooms for our last night and if we had been in that room for our stay we would have found it too small and didn't like not having a bath , only a shower in that room. The other room was great and we had that room for the rest of the week.
Review 31:Having to leave
Review 32:The style of the Hotel is very smart all the staff we met were very welcoming and very cheerful a credit to the management. We had an excellent meal in the restaurant , and breakfast was first class, ( try the eggs bendick )
Review 33:Lovely room , comfy bed and pillows , pet friendly and lovely helpfull staff . Good food in the eve and excellent breakfast . Stayed here before and will stay again .
Review 34:Lov
Review 35:Being a solo traveler, I did not enjoy being placed across the restaurant from all the other diners, under a spotlight by the back door, the bin and the glasses cupboard. I didn't even get salt and pepper. I assumed that the place was booked up, hence the horrible table, but no. The food was OK - the goat's cheese croquettes were quite sweet. The paprika cod was lovely, but the winter greens were very watery. I didn't bother with dessert, and was very thankful I had my Kindle.
Review 36:The room was nice, and the bed very comfortable. The house red was lovely. The breakfast was very good.
Review 37:Poached eggs at breakfast were over cooked and hard Staff not very happy and looking under pressure!
Review 38:location, location, location Staff friendly and helpful
Review 39:Lighting in bedroom poor. Shower curtain rather than screen a bit tacky. The restaurant area lacked atmosphere. I chose skate from the food menu which was poor although my partner chose chicken which was good.
Review 40:Good position close to sea. Attractive bar and seating area. Easy parking.
Review 41:price we were charged for a tiny single room with an extra camp bed for a second night - this was unplanned and the hotel squeezed us in - but the price was still unreasonable also our double room overlooked the carpark and area where staff took their breaks
Review 42:amazing location, good atmosphere in bar/restaurant
Review 43:Main criticism is that the front door is locked at 11pm with no night porter. Although bar is advertised until 11pm on Sunday everyone, regardless of being resident or not, was refused service after 10.30pm. Irritating if you return at 10.35 for a nightcap.
Review 44:Location is excellent with good sea views. Rooms have been refurbished and are very clean.
Review 45:The shower pressure was a bit feeble. Some herbal teas would have been nice.
Review 46:When I booked in I asked if it was possible to have a twin or king sized bed room with a sea view, as I had booked a double room with sea view because I had expected to be on my own. My daughter then decided to join me. The manager put us in a family suite at no extra cost. The food was also above average for the vegetarian dishes. All in all a very positive experience.
Review 47:Our room 201 was too small for 2 people. I banged my head several times on the sloping roof near window. eventually remembered to stoop. Old bed, metal springs quite noisy at times. I left a note listing a few comments on the room
Review 48:Location of Hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast but we had to have 2 eggs although we only asked for 1. wide choice for evening meal. Hotel generally quiet.
Review 49:Other guests bit noisy in early morning drunken return. Not hotels fault tho
Review 50:Lovely clean interesting building refurbished v v well. Great welcome from reception and staff really good throughout.
Review 51:Dining room a bit dated, lighting could be upgraded, food ok. Windows by the balcony would not open as they had not been fitted properly. Residential only area, no other facilties. ,
Review 52:Comfortable clean rooms, friendly staff, views of the sea.
Review 53:No bad experience
Review 54:Very friendly and helpful staff. Our fish choices for dinner were delicious and room, although small, very comfortable. The sea views were fantastic and a wonderful beach below the hotel added to our overall enjoyment of our stay
Review 55:It suited us because it was in a peaceful position and Booking.com got us a good offer. The staff were very friendly and the room we had, 501 was comfortable and had a balcony which was very nice. There were walks from the hotel along the coast which was a great thing to do early morning before breakfast.
Review 56:The position so close to the beach was just what I wanted. Vegetarian breakfast was very good. Staff were very friendly and helpful, particularly the receptionist.
Review 57:The hangers in the cupboard. Some rings faced forward, some back. It needed glasses to hang anything up
Review 58:This was the cleanest, and most well managed hotel I have been in for many years. The staff were very friendly. Everything worked and the decor was incredibly tasteful. I would recommend it to anyone.
Review 59:I didnt like their breakfast but staff were lovely. The showers was cold waters and room was cold. I got ill and no staff asked if im well. Had no breakfast on my last day which was upsetting. The room surrounding was too noisy and no bridal suit was given. They refused to extend my check out
Review 60:The scencery was lovely and they was nice to let me have midnight check- in
Review 61:Went into the main restaurant for dinner, taken to the Orange room because the restaurant had been set up for breakfast, this was at 9pm....last orders was 9.30pm.....
Review 62:Nice location, able to chill out & left alone
Review 63:Splendid location overlooking sea with nice seating area outside. Good sized comfortable room, plenty of hot water, good service and lovely breakfast.
Review 64:Very big spacious family room. We were on the top floor. Very comfortable stay. Bathroom very clean. Will definitely go back next time. Excellent location for the beach!
Review 65:Our room was at the back had a view of the staff on breaks , wasn't the prettiest and was woken by sea gulls , and light coming through curtains
Review 66:The locations is very nice over looking the beach
Review 67:Loved it. Room 505 was wonderful; spacious with fantastic double aspect views of the sea. Could not have asked for a better peaceful location. Can't wait to return.
Review 68:Breakfast was generous and tasty but only warm overall when it could easily have been piping hot as some items on the plate were; Bed not especially comfortable - mattress could do with either turning or replacing .... Maybe works better for 2 people sharing but not comfortable solo - room very nice even so and I would stay again The Free wifi relied on my already being online to set up Cloud a/c but I had no personal internet access on my phone hence needing the local wifi so I couldn't log in - I forgot to ask when I arrived - I am sure they would have helped me set up an account, but as I was last for that night the reception was closed before I remembered and it did me good not to log on at night!!
Review 69:Nice welcome from staff and also as it was through booking.com hotel phoned to make sure I was coming and to let me know time frame + gave helpful directions, breakfast and checkout staff also very friendly Great location - minutes from wonderful beaches and clifftop walk .Easily reached from Broadstairs. I looked out at night and was spellbound by the stars as well (lucky chance, but adds to ambience!) Great value for money - I had a bargain off the site and this was brilliant. Generous breakfast in airy breakfast room with great views. Generosity is a characteristic with free mineral water in glass bottles as well as tea, hairdryer, lots of bathroom goodies and crisp bedlinen ,,, Lovely
Review 70:Overpriced for the quality of the room, no guest parking and had to park on the street about 500m away and trail all my suitcases there as the bar was full of people having lunch, no offer to help with baggage for a family of four,
Review 71:Was disappointed they couldn't find room for us in the Sunday carvery, but understandable on a bank holiday weekend. The rooms starting with a 4 can be very noisy due to a hugely loud, squeaky door to that part of the hotel, combined with thin walls that seem to resonate door bangs morning noon and night.
Review 72:Great wifi, easy to get to by car, beautiful spot next to the sea with some fantastic walks up and down the coast straight out of the front door. Decent menu and reasonably attentive and polite staff on the front desk and in the bar/restaurant.
Review 73:The room which was a delux for £420 was very small and could manage a few days but would not like to stay longer as a bit clostrafobic.
Review 74:Loved the location as we have been coming to Broadstairs for years. Loved the little balcony with table and chairs but the view was restricted by the dome on the dining room which was a shame!!! but it was still lovely to take the air and still a good view while standing.
Review 75:Very uncomfortable bed, feet higher than head when on mattress Cleanliness (make up left on sides in bathroom) Badly designed shower, especially for a sea location Staff very slow at breakfast Venue also used for weddings so noisy Value for money not good
Review 76:Excellent reception staff, good position by the sea
Review 77:No where near to park the car
Review 78:I'm was very impressed with the staff throughout the hotel who were happy to help everyone on one of the busiest Saturday ever
Review 79:table waiting staff made my wife feel rushed ie: cooked breakfast arriving before cereal/fruit had been eaten. everything seemed to be done at high speed we were there to relax
Review 80:room clean and tidy staff in general areas very polite and helpful
Review 81:The breakfast was cheap rubbish, not what you would expect from a £100 a night hotel. Small cramped room with a dreadful view. The bed had seen better days. Shame but easily could be put right
Review 82:The location is amazing but in the years of going to beautiful hotels B and B etc I have never been to a more un organised establishment , there are so many staff none of them have a clue what they are doing to the point of embarrassment , there is no management skills in place at all . Food was of very poor Brakes standard and I was left utterly gutted with my trip .
Review 83:I would have liked a shower cubicle instead of having the shower in the bath.
Review 84:The location was excellent. The Hotel was well kept and we had a lovely room - superior double with sea view which was clean and fresh. The staff were welcoming, friendly and efficient. Food good.
Review 85:Were given keys before they had even started cleaning out rooms? Breakdown in communication between housekeeping and reception.
Review 86:Fantastic location. Friendly helpful staff. Access to beautiful beach. Choice of bar or restaurant to eat. Felt spacious and relaxed
Review 87:Two guests were very un accepting of children or young families and made very rude comments about my 1 and 5 yr old being loud, they are kids at the seaside, go to an adults only hotel if you are a children should be seen not heard kind
Review 88:How accommodating the staff are and friendly, the young lady on the reception desk on arrival was fantastic and so bubbly and obliging, knowledgeable of her role, a credit to botany bay
Review 89:The room overlooks the main road but there was no blind or netting on the window (404)- a blind would improve privacy. The bathroom lacked any ventilation so an extractor would also be useful. There was no lift - I had two bulky bags and although I was shown to my room I had to ask the Receptionist to help me with my bags
Review 90:Location is amazing. Friendly helpful front of house and Restaurant staff. Good food, delicious breakfasts!
Review 91:Room at back of hotel over kitchen with fan going most of the time Also quite small Very hot although there was a fan in the room Did realise this as it said on booking site Big window did not open Menu a bit limited for other meals
Review 92:Location Easy to park Great bathroom Very friendly staff Good breakfast Bar and restaurant
Review 93:Breakfast was disappointing - burnt toast and poached eggs with hard yolks.
Review 94:The location is fabulous. The decor of the hotel is nice - neutral colours reflecting the seaside location.
Review 95:The cleanliness of the rooms and very pleasant helpful staff. Ideal place for my daughter and myself to take memory lane trip as we used to live in Kingsgate.
Review 96:Being asked to pay upfront as if it were a guest house in the 50s and making the assumption I was going to do a runner - unacceptable and insulting
Review 97:Great location, very clean and comfortable modern room and bathroom, absolutely lovely young staff
Review 98:on arrival I unloaded my case from the car and tripped over a bush gashing my leg badly. The floorboards in the room were so loose that every step one made was creaking. The hand basin taps were not secured and the cold tap constantly leaking, wasting valuable resources of course, finally arriving back from a function I went to the bar which was closed at eleven fifteen, the room info suggested the bar was open until midnight.
Review 99:friendly staff
Review 100:Asked to be moved 1st night as people in next room had tv on allnight... So loud you couldn't sleep. At 2.30am had had enough andcalled Management to report problem. Guests turned it down then upagain, just not so loud !!! 2nd night ... No problems had a lovely sleepall night. 3Rd night people in next room had their tv on very loud....At 11.30pm we knocked on their door and asked them to turn it down.Maybe, it might be an idea for hotel to provide ear phones for TV'S.
Review 101:Everything great value however.....
Review 102:The staff was a bit indifferent occasionally and the wifi was slow.
Review 103:The hotel is located on the cliffs, overlooking the sea. The restaurant is very nice and the room was spacious and comfortable. The vicinity of the phenomenal beach was the jewel in the crown though.
Review 104:The single room our son got was really too small for a 6-day-stay. The worst Impression however, we received from the Hotel and restaurant staff which was in most cases inefficient and not friendly at all.
Review 105:The Hotel is situated directly at the coast and we enjoyed the marvellous view from our room.
Review 106:The room looked over the back of the hotel, it was very noisey due to the extractor fans and air conditioning units outside, so much so the windows needed to be kept shut. The weather was very hot and the room became unbareable even with two fans, because the room was in full sun most of the day, this with the added heat from the kitchen extractor fans and aircon units adding to the heat. The rear of the hotel attracted with local population of seagulls due to the aroma of food from the extractor fans. Parking was at a premimun as the restaurant was popular and the seaside location meant day trippers took up a lots of the spaces during the day.
Review 107:The view from the restaurant and bar was lovely. The staff very very good and caring.
Review 108:Evening meal very average. Cheese sandwiches at length were an absolute joke.
Review 109:Molly the receptionist and rest of waiting staff were excellent. Comfortable room. Lovely ambience.
Review 110:Please don't put children in a room above a couple. Jumping up and down on the floor at 8am Sunday morning was not appreciated after getting in at 1.30am!!
Review 111:I had room 408 that was awful fir 2 people boilers out side window overlooking roof window couldn't open ... Generator noise all night ... I paid for 3 rooms for my sons 21 his was lovely mine was awful the manager gave me £30 off
Review 112:The test of hotel was great
Review 113:From the first minute we arrived to our last minute, the staff, the location, the whole hotel expereince was above our expectations, and we had a fantastic stay. We would stay here again, certainly.
Review 114:Room 408 is a very small double that looks out onto ventilation ductsand aircon units that run all night. If you open the window, burger andchip fumes enter along with noise.
Review 115:Being moved out of room 408, but only after asking for the CEO'sname and address.
Review 116:The food lets the Hotel down. The menu is simple and therefore quality should be high. Soggy vegetables in the evening and a cooked breakfast that had been cooked a longtime before. This hotel just needs a good chef.
Review 117:Enthusiastic young team that do everything with a big smile. Need a touch more finesse.
Review 118:We were welcomed by friendly staff who went out of their way to make us feel at home and always had time for a quick chat about the local sites to visit and places to eat.
Review 119:staff were helpful and friendly Room was lovely didn't like the stairs was hard for one with knee problems one with breathing but loved our night with u
Review 120:Wish there had maybe been an area for children. 7 year old became bored! But it was raining and you can't help that
Review 121:The rooms were lovely and the hotel very comfortable
Review 122:Was not able to have a wind down drink in the bar at midnight on Saturday night ! Never had this on previous visits or in any other hotel I've ever been resident in. On Sunday we had a drink at 10.30 and were told it was last orders at 10.40! So amother early end to our evening.
Review 123:Location and room facilities
Review 124:Very disappointed with breakfast. I chose the smoked haddock. It was not smoked fish, my plate was full of water with slimy spinach not presented at all. Really unhappy. My partner had the full English which he liked but the fried bread was done in the fryer.
Review 125:The room was great, very comfy bed and lovely big bathroom. Staff were very friendly and happy to help. Great location unfortunately we can when the weather was really bad do stayed in the warm cosy bar.
Review 126:The bed was past its best the edges collapsing in .
Review 127:Everything in this hotel is carefully thought out, the staff are friendly and very helpful. The decor is pleasing and the food reasonably good ( thr breakfast is excellent.
Review 128:Only one bedside light on twin room.lack of electric points. Over kitchen so constant air con noise.
Review 129:Staff really helpful and friendly. Lovely food and very clean
Review 130:Room had thin walls, was kept awake by the TV from next door room, loud voices and doors being banged.
Review 131:Room was lovely, bathroom was a good size. Staff were excellent.
Review 132:The food in the restaurant was average. This could be so much better. The restaurant staff appeared to lack supervision and direction which meant they were slow and appeared disinterested. However, this was not the case of the breakfast / reception staff.
Review 133:Nice views, outside seating for eating and drinking. Nice size room. Fresh and modern
Review 134:The sloping roof in the bedroom. Hit head when getting out at night
Review 135:the breakfast on offer was amazing. All the staff were extremely polite and helpful. The views from dining room were super.
