Reviews for Hall Garth Hotel, Golf & Spa.

Review 1:Noise from plumbing in other rooms very disturbing during night As weather was cold, room heating when I checked in was off, so very cold for 1st night

Review 2:Staff, location, facilities very good

Review 3:Breakfast was not a good experience, Staff were slow. I had to ask for fork, milk and nearly everything else. Took ages to receive coffee, I had to ask where I got it from. The bathroom has seen better days, with mould on ceiling, The bathroom door was dirty with lots of dust.

Review 4:The stay was excellent.I wasn't sure what expect for the evening meal we had booked as it was only an extra £30.00 to go half board .It was fantastic the food was fabulous. The evening staff were so friendly nothing was too much trouble .I feel this was great value for money.

Review 5:Appalling service at breakfast, left to find my own chair and waited half an hour for breakfast - understaffed and a poor system. My husband's scrambled egg would have bounced if dropped! Afternoon tea was expensive and large slabs of cake instead of small appetising amounts. Cleaners' trolley parked outside our door all morning so we had to step over it to get in our rooms. On site pub not serving food in early evening when we arrived so had to take 3 year old into restaurant that wasn't really a welcoming family environment. No staff at leisure reception when I arrived to use gym. Will try and get in somewhere else before I pick this again - saving grace is the lovely pool...

Review 6:Grounds and leisure facilities

Review 7:We travel from Northern Ireland and have stayed here a few times. We are always made to feel very welcome. The staff are lovely, rooms are great with very comfortable beds. The breakfast is always lovely. I always make use of the swimming pool. We will definitely be back in the future and would recommend it to anyone who wants a nice relaxing break.

Review 8:Nothing at all!.

Review 9:Everything about this hotel was excellent. it had a lovely warm atmosphere. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was spacious and comfortable. The food was very good along with the facilities. Would definatley stay again and recommend this hotel.

Review 10:Excellent location, food was very good. very nice comfortable room with the added touch of wine and chocolates in our room rate. a very pleasant relaxing stay.

Review 11:Lack of real ales in hotel. Do have a pub in grounds but not very appealing and beer was poor.

Review 12:Quirky hotel created from an old house and extended so quite unique. Very friendly and able staff & very clean. Breakfast was very good.

Review 13:We could hear the evening function in our bedroom and had to stay up until it finished.

Review 14:Ideal as a stop over close to the motorway, great quiet setting.

Review 15:The stables was not as friendly the food was terrible but my friend enjoyed what she had

Review 16:The staff are very friendly in the hotel reception and restaurant.the breakfast was amazing and our late night snack was the most deliciouse sticky toffee pudding iv ever tasted and I'm a critic.

Review 17:The room I had was right above the stable bar and the sound proofing was non existent. I felt like my bed was actually in the bar as I could hear every word clearly. Fine once the bar closed though.

Review 18:Nice location and facilities. Staff were good too.

Review 19:The mattress on the bed needed replacing as every time I moved the springs in the bed would ping. Also the iron attached to the trouser press wasn't working and the wires to the iron were exposed which could have been dangerous if touched by a child

Review 20:Great Location . Plenty of on site parking .Spacious room . staff were helpful

Review 21:Very friendly and helpful staff, especially the receptionist. We were upgraded to a suite - a very quirky and comfortable room. Loved the pool and spa.

Review 22:One of the cups in room was a bit dirty. Too much chlorine in jacuzzi and pool. Some of the the drinks were a little over priced.

Review 23:Nice room with very comfy large bed (Superior room). Main course in restaurant was very good. Well kept grounds. Liked the sauna & steam room.

Review 24:The beds are small, but this is a really minor point.

Review 25:The staff were all great, they did everything they could to make our stay comfortable. The food at breakfast and our evening meal was excellent.

Review 26:For the price I paid I've stayed in better rooms, though I believe this was one which hadn't experienced any ongoing reservation. Only had two pillows on the double bed and both of these were hard and uncomfortable. It's a minor fault in the grand scheme of things, though a more luxurious bed would have gone a long way to making the stay perfect.

Review 27:The situation of the resort itself could not have been more picturesque, quaint or idyllic. The spa/pool was also a great bonus, granted there are better, though it suited the charm of the place. Also, the staff were great, including the barman Asa who I personally think deserves a promotion - he was very helpful, friendly and hospitable and definitely helped to make our stay enjoyable.

Review 28:receptionist was under pressure when we arrived at 2pm on a Saturday to book in(as stated on booking confirmation), she told us we couldn't until 3pm at w/ends. she was very unhelpful. PLS CHANGE THE INFO GIVEN TO GUESTS other receptionist were superb!

Review 29:character, great swimming pool, wonderful breakfast.

Review 30:Radiator bit loose, hanging off wall.wall lamps not working.

Review 31:Room was lovely.Room service from Oswald was outstanding, had sticky toffee pudding, delicious and presentation excellent. The hotel grounds were nice to walk around.

Review 32:The slanting floorboards. Also the no shower curtain and assumption that those who aren't disabled use baths over showers

Review 33:The spa and closeness to destination

Review 34:Breakfast service was very slow, considering it was quiet & the spread was fantastic but let down by the cooked breakfast.

Review 35:Staff were very helpful & polite. Restaurant food was to a very good standard, I had rack of lamb, but the dining room lacked atmosphere. Small wine list but reasonable wines. Nice layout for breakfast, I sat in conservatory, but the cooked breakfast was disappointing. Overall it is very good value for money & the staff were lovely. I would stay again.

Review 36:Only issue we had was that we tried to book some actual spa treatments in, only to be told it was fully booked. Slightly defeated the objective of the weekend

Review 37:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was very nice and spotless.

Review 38:This is the 3rd time we have stayed here. The rooms are normally clean. But this time our room was filthy. Dust everywhere, massive spiders in the room. With webs. So been there a while. Dinner was completely overpriced. Quality was not the best. Quantity also very tight.

Review 39:Love the tranquillity around the whole resort. Very peaceful and feel like in the middle of wilderness.

Review 40:Meals were not of the best quality - to have to pay extra for a bread roll when spending £70 for a three course dinner was almost an insult. Breakfast quality and presentation was poor - smoked haddock and poached egg were just that on a dinner plate - so watery and bland. For £119 per night per room (excl meals) it was not value for money.

Review 41:Great Location and Spa

Review 42:Some mould issues in the bathroom but it is only 3*

Review 43:Loved the fact our room was in the converted stables and seperate to the hotel itself. The grounds were also beautiful!

Review 44:Once again thanks to booking with Booking.com I did NOT get the room I had booked. Fantastic pictures of nice rooms and then given a completly different room when I turned up!

Review 45:Restaurant and bar meals very expensive. Mould on shower head in bathroom.

Review 46:Excellent spa facilities and great breakfast. Staff pleasant and helpful. Plenty of free parking.

Review 47:Receptionist on checking in and the member of staff on Sunday morning in the pool were average

Review 48:The girl on duty at the Spa/gym on my first visit and the receptionist when checking out were superb. Bar and ancillary staff all lovely and friendly

Review 49:The rooms over the Stables bar were far too hot. We don't like the springy wooden floor of the restaurant which made us a little uncomfortable.

Review 50:A reasonable price for the facilities. Friendly staff

Review 51:False fire alarm caused very brief disruption of an otherwise lovely stay (quickly dealt with).

Review 52:Beautiful location and grounds. Peaceful and quiet. Spa facilities (and staff!) were lovely. Breakfast room has a fantastic outlook. Golfers will love this place!

Review 53:The double bed was very small. We only stayed one night otherwise I would have found it difficult.

Review 54:Clean hotel, beautiful surroundings, easy to find and close to motorway. Food in the pub was good and the staff nice and helpful.

Review 55:We hadn't realised breakfast finished at 0930 and we got there at 0934 but they wouldn't offer us a hot breakfast..! Too late! A little harsh for a lovely relaxed country house hotel I think! Disappointing end to our lovely stay. We were there for only 2 days and had not pre ordered breakfast on day 1 as we knew we had a very early training course to attend, but we had prepaid for our breakfast on day 2. Shame we didn't get it....as we'd spent a lovely evening in the Stables bar till midnight and my partner in particular with his lovely hangover was desperately in need of a hot cooked breakfast. Croissants just didn't float his boat. So...be on time and read the information in the room !

Review 56:Beautiful surrounding countryside and location just a minute off A1. Peaceful country location. Hotel was prettier than pictures suggest.

Review 57:Needed to be up early for a running competition and although breakfast was included, they refused to let us pre order for 8am as the chef did not start until then. Food average.

Review 58:Location was lovely

Review 59:Two big wedding going on kidds running around without being looked after. Noisy at times people's children playing games on the golf hole by the restaurant. Cars parked any where and lots more to do with us not having a quite break. We never had a peace full day.

Review 60:The setting and golf course and the area

Review 61:The fact that Room 10 had a bath but no shower. There is just a hand held mixer tap shower attachment that did not work. As soon as the cold water was added to the hot, the attachment stopped working so was of no use at all.

Review 62:The peace and quiet

Review 63:Had to keep the bedroom window close as large fans going all night, think they were in the kitchen/large fridge area

Review 64:Clean and warm room. Kind and friendly staff. location lovely

Review 65:Superior room had no desk to work at Moved to standrd room and the desk was adequate, but not ideal. Lighting was low energy bulbs that gave little light and the room was far too hot and the bed very uncomfortable.

Review 66:Had a quality feel about the hotel. Evening meal and breakfast were very good and staff willing to help and always smiling

Review 67:The food was poor over priced and lacked imagination. The pub along the road has just reopened and does better food to a higher quality and cheaper!

Review 68:The location

Review 69:Duvet could have been larger on a double bed. Kept wakening up because of it.

Review 70:Very friendly and helpful staff, especially Shirley and Chelsea. Excellent service and food.

Review 71:No downsides at all

Review 72:Location was lovely and quiet, so I slept really well. Staff were really nice and very helpful and I'd definitely stay there again.

Review 73:The rooms were comfortable and newly renovated and spacious. Meals in the restaurant were fresh and well made and the service was exceptional. The leisure club was very good too.

Review 74:We booked the room for two adults and one child, when we got there they told us that it was only a two person room!!!!!!????? there was three of us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! however the staff managed to cater for us.

Review 75:As one of our party was doing the Para10 charity run at Catterick and had to be there at 9 0clock, breakfast on a Sunday didn't start till 8 o'clock, we had to make do with the continental breakfast but was charged for the full English.

Review 76:It felt like we were a bit of an inconvenience at dinner. Bar noise (pool table) very loud through floor in Stables block.

Review 77:Pre-booking service, staff friendly.

Review 78:Room was fine apart from noises from outside, was very sound proof. Overall though loved it.

Review 79:Lovely receptionist, very warm and inviting. Great stay just very disappointed the steam room wasn't working, we should have been informed prior visit.

Review 80:N/A NOTHING WORTH MENTIONING

Review 81:WE ENJOYED EVERYTHING FROM THE MOMENT WE ARRIVED. THE YOUNG LADY ON RECEPTION GREETED US WITH A LOVELY SMILE AND LOTS OF INFO. THE ROOM WAS LOVELY AND CLEAN THE DECO WAS BEAUTIFUL. LEISURE FACILLITIES WER GREAT TOO. LOVED THE STABLES BAR AND CONSERVATORY AND SARAH ON THE BAR WAS VERY FRIENDLY, NOTHING TOO MUCH TROUBLE BLESS HER. EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS BUSY AND ON HER OWN. SO ALL IN ALL BRILLIANT STAY AND WOULD DEFINATLY GO BACK. THANK YOU

Review 82:Standard double room a bit on the small side. No lift but was asked if I would be OK taking heavy bag up the stairs. Could hear guests next door easily. Room got rather hot at night - a small fan would have been good.

Review 83:Staff very friendly, helpful and courteous. Room very clean and nicely decorated and bathroom chic and modern. Best Wifi I have had in a hotel in this area.

Review 84:dark bedroom room (33) on tree side, also loud extractor fan, lack of lighting in room, when comparing rooms opposite, we also requested a room with view.

Review 85:Liked the customer service from waitresses when serving breakfast dinner

Review 86:I think the value for money for the breakfast was poor. I opted for the full English and got 1 peice of every component and the sausage was bright red inside so I couldn't eat it. The shower in our room was also very poor, it had no pressure and so we were forced to have a bath instead.

Review 87:When we arrive the lady on reception told us our room had been upgraded to a four poster suite because of a wedding that was on so we were on the oppposite side of the hotel.

Review 88:The first room we were offered was small and no view, after a brief consultation we were moved to a superior room

Review 89:Convenient for what we required a central location to meet up with some friends

Review 90:Residents lounge has a huge open fire, evening was chilly and the fire wasn't lit. Cold. Food average, in retrospect, would have eaten elsewhere.

Review 91:Loved the welcome staff (Haley in particular) and the room, location and pool were great..

Review 92:Well if pushed the shower was a dribble and the drain plug was broken

Review 93:The quirky room, very comfortable bed wonderful chef who went the extra mile in the evening. This a lovely place for a rest &relaxation pity we had only one night. Happy staff.

Review 94:Meals were average and breakfast was just warm. The location of the double rooms is above the bar and is noisy until around midnight. Then our room was at the top of the stairs and everyone passed it to get to theirs so was a little disturbing. Toilets in the bar weren't nice, one was out of order and the other two filled up and took ages to flush. Our TV in the room didn't work properly and the wifi didn't either so I'm guessing our room location had a poor signal as it worked fine in the restaurant. It was a special offer of half board and wine and chocs in room but i wouldn't have paid that price for just bed and breakfast.

Review 95:Lovely settings, beautiful scenery. We went on a special offer of half board and wine and chocolates in the room.

Review 96:Bed a little small. We chose to eat in the Stables with having a 4 yr old. Basic good food but no pud was dissapointing.

Review 97:Lovely , staff great location. Great pool which with our 4yr old Grandaughter with us was fantastic

Review 98:Our friends above the Stable Restaurant were disappointed with their room

Review 99:The waitress , April, was happy to set up a table for 4 of us in the window when we asked for a change when two circular tables for two had been pushed together .

Review 100:No hot water on Sunday morning and a poor shower which leaked on to bathroom floor

Review 101:Room size and extras like the wine and chocolates and good choice on the evening menu

Review 102:There was a prom on here on the Friday night it was very loud as it was taking place underneath our room, I think we should have been informed when we booked.

Review 103:The location of the spa from the main building, the menu had very little choice, bathroom tiles & shower needs replacing.

Review 104:The location was excellent staff were helpful

Review 105:it was extremely noisy, we were told on reception that the venue in question would be finished at 11pm, this was not true it went on until midnight, why or why do hotels always put family rooms right beside where all the noise is, our friends who were also staying here were in a completely different building and heard nothing, they don't have a young child like us. food for thought, don't put families near the noise, but the guests that are there for the venue near the noise instead!!!

Review 106:lovely staff and breakfast was very nice, setting was also very good

Review 107:Facilities in the swimming pool changing area could do with an update.

Review 108:Staff were superb. Everyone was very friendly. There was a problem with our hot water which they notified us of before we discovered for ourselves. They gave us a complimentary bottle of wine with our dinner. My husband also really enjoyed the golf.

Review 109:Nothing

Review 110:Very friendly staff. Excellent service at reception in the restaurant and Stables bar. Room was comfortable and dinner and breakfast very good. Will definitely return.

Review 111:Taking into account I upgraded to a superior room the location was too near one of the staff areas so early morning noise. Shower should have been better for the upgrade

Review 112:Location Stables Pub Golf Course

Review 113:Not a vast selection for lunch in the stables bar

Review 114:Excellent hotel and value for money I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to fellow travelers, never disappoints

Review 115:Food at stables pub very poor. Did raise this with deputy manager who addressed this straight away

Review 116:The location lovely and had a nice room . Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 117:Members of the health club moaning about my children being in the pool.

Review 118:The staff were friendly, accommodating and great with the kids.. The food was delicious too..

Review 119:Breakfast was sparse. One small rasher of overcooked bacon and one very small hash brown is not good value when charging what you do for breakfast. A hearty breakfast this was not.

Review 120:The room was spacious and comfortable. In general I do not have any big complaints, but it is the small details and the little extras that make one hotel stand out from another. I stay in a lot of hotels, 2 to 3 a week and this hotel is very nice but lets itself down by NOT paying attention to the small details that would set it above other hotels of the same ratings.

Review 121:Wedding reception immediately below room 49. Very loud music etc. Finished at midnight. Check beforehand if good nights sleep is important.

Review 122:Staff very professional and friendly. Very helpful when needed to print out itinerary. Breakfast excellent.

Review 123:We enjoy nature and it was great to wake up with gentle sound of birds. Bed was comfortable, service was good, room was clean, comfortable and large enough to walk.

Review 124:The only downside to my stay was that I didn't get chance to play a round of golf. The course looked beautifully kept & when I visit again I'll be sure to play a round.

Review 125:The staff were all extremely friendly & made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. Luckily, we arrived in time for Sunday lunch which was delicious, & with 3 courses for £15 was very reasonable. Our room was lovely & very comfortable. We also used the leisure facilities for a short while, which was very relaxing.

Review 126:Everything first class, no complaints

Review 127:Nice quiet location and hotel very little noise in hotel had two really good nights sleep - staff very helpful at all times nothing too much trouble e.g asking for extra milk , coffee , tea etc .

Review 128:We boojed this hotel as it seemed quite stunning, as it was our wedding anniversary we wanted it to be special. So we also paid more to have a superior room. On our booking reference it states check in from 2pm, but when we arrived at 2pm we were told we couldn't check in until 3pm. So had to just sit and wait, at 3pm we got our key went to room and maid was still in our room were told by her she'd be another 15mins so had to sit and wait yet again. Room was unfortunately nothing special even though it was classes as superior. Bed moved all the time away from wall.

Review 129:Beautiful place with lovely surroundings.. great spa.

Review 130:Shower in room was rubbish, toilet flushed into the bath and when we entered the room for the first time the stench was awful.

Review 131:Gym and pool good, bar food was ok but limited menu

Review 132:We have stayed here several times before and this time was no different fantastic staff and facilities. Hallgarth gave us 2 bottles of prosecco and a happy birthday desert for free. Staff are second to none

Review 133:Not impressed with Stables bar the staff member, wasn't helpful, played same music over and over , only so much Oasis and happy Mondays one can take. we were there sat afternoon, went back after meal with family, same table weren't cleaned , same music and bar person...

Review 134:This is a friendly and only 20mins away from Darlington, which was great... food good...

Review 135:The overall stay was good and the location great if you are on holiday or weekend break. Just a bit out my way for my purposes of work. I would recommend to other people for relaxation.

Review 136:Who ever did the renovation of this property cut corners. There appears to be no soundprrofing in the partition walls . Thus every phone call , TV channel, or movement is clealry audible in the next room . Its the only thing I want in a hotel, an undisturbed nights sleep !!!

Review 137:Location and everything else was OK , however the reason you stay in a hotel is to have somewhere to sleep

Review 138:We booked a meal in the stables I had gammon, egg and chips which was beautiful but my partner ordered rump steak which was very fatty, we mentioned it to waitress and were brushed off, we paid over £16 for the steak which is expensive for rump but overall we really enjoyed our stay here

Review 139:Room was beautiful could not fault it, clean and comfortable
