Reviews for The Falcondale Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:The food both breakfast and dinner were first class. Loads of fruit at breakfast, then freshly cooked food. Extensive dinner menu. Very good wine list. a large selection of wines available by glass or carafe,if rather pricey.

Review 2:great place, very warm and welcoming. food high value but appropriately priced according to quality. bar girl excellent during our stay. best smoked haddock i have had and cooked to perfection!

Review 3:We were there to celebrate a special birthday, and wanted to be spoilt and have a good meal. Everything was good, friendly service and excellent food.

Review 4:No bad experience at all, maybe the main course at dinner could have been a little more generous. I was relieved my 6'4" son wasn't with us - he would have thought it was a starter! It was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was excellent, perhaps a little over-generous. We will stay there again.

Review 5:Comfortable and quiet room, brilliant setting. We liked the little "amuse bouche" tasters at dinner. We liked the generous bathroom lotions and potions and even purchased some.

Review 6:Seating area in lounge a bit haphazard and could do with a little more revamping - would expect it to be a little more cosy as a county hotel

Review 7:Food was excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. Dining room well placed. Staff helpful and my room very comfortable

Review 8:Ensuite toilet unusable. Complained but no discernable improvement. Carpet in room 9 ve ry grubby. Easy chairs in Room 8 very uncomfortable. Rooms very cold until extra heating was utilised.

Review 9:View, front terrace, food.

Review 10:The room was small, dated and the carpet was in need of a clean. The water pressure was such that the shower did not work if the shower head was turned upside down.

Review 11:The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff.

Review 12:We stayed as we were visiting family in the area and we will be going back again, lovely friendly place with good attentive staff and a great breakfast

Review 13:Nothing to report

Review 14:Location in the beautiful country, very tranquil,.friendly and helpful staff, especially James.Beautiful breakfast and a good selection of local produce.

Review 15:We found evening meals expensive in relation to choice and quality of food. In the one set meal we had there was too much similarity between the starter and the main course. A la carte appeared overpriced and we wonder if a quiet this is due to lack of local competition.

Review 16:Position of house is lovely and the grounds and views very impressive. Staff were cheerful and atmosphere pleasant,

Review 17:Wifi code had to be requested. Upgrade to a 4 poster bed was only a wooden frame round a devan base with no valance so base on show The frame was much wider than the base so you could get caught in it quite easy very poor and certainly no were near worth the charge. room very basic not good selection of beer or cider not enough staff.

Review 18:location

Review 19:first room overlooked hotel roof and extractor fans, changed due to constant flushing toilet , second room fine

Review 20:nice staff , great food , brilliant breakfast

Review 21:wifi is a bit hit and miss but no real problem as we were there to relax!

Review 22:A stunning view in a quiet and beautiful location. Large room with a good en-suite and a comfy bed. Staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you! Food was delicious!

Review 23:Wifi although the password was given did not work as there was no signal. Dinner was a pre starter -amuse boush type thing. The main menu didn't include any vegetarian meals, vegetarian meal was all food I couldn't eat. Pudding for my other half was not fresh or flavoursome. Which for the price we paid for it was a big let down.

Review 24:Very friendly staff who go out of their way to help, amazing breakfast - filled us up until lunch. Perfect cosy room!

Review 25:Only downside was wifi not available in rooms (lounge only).

Review 26:Roomy, comfortable rooms. Beautiful location. Helpful, friendly, knowledgable staff. Superb restaurant/bar, food was excellent.

Review 27:Not important but wifi is very sporadic in hotel and there is no mobile signal !

Review 28:Friendliness of the staff Location Comfort of bed and sleep quality Comfort of public areas Peace and quiet Wine list was excellent Breakfast

Review 29:Nothing except I had to leave

Review 30:The staff, the location, the food, the wine... Everything about this place is perfect. Even down to the log fire in the lounge. If you have a dog, they're welcome too.

Review 31:Nothing to not like! My only problem was that we couldnt stay longer at The Falcondale.

Review 32:After a mix up with our reservation with booking.com we were offered The Falcondale as a subsitute. And what a wonderful mix up it turned out to be!! Absolutely beautiful place to stay, the grounds are gorgeous, with totally breathtaking views. The breakfast was so lovely with attentive staff making us both feel welcomed and valued. We would definitely stay here again, it was worth the extra price too, as we left the next morning feeling like a million dollars! We will be back for another visit.

Review 33:Only two minor issues. Would have liked: WiFi in rooms. Fridge in the rooms.

Review 34:Staff. Welcoming, friendly, helpful & efficient. Food - excellent. Great service. Location - blissful. Room- delightful, comfortable. The whole experience was so lovely, and must be repeated.

Review 35:Bathroom tired, shower not great, nowhere to place your bathroom bags or hang clothing only the floor! Having a delicious afternoon tea in the downstairs sunlounge with the amazing views, couldn't help but notice the noisy plumbing pipes as other guests were using their bathrooms above - suggest boxing in with insulation to stop the distracting sounds! :) Bar/lounge area quite dark could do with update eventually.

Review 36:The dinner in the evening was sublime! Well worth eating in with a lovely atmosphere to go with it. Staff were great very helpful! Lovely place to stay would definitely recommend it.

Review 47:Very well stocked bar

Review 48:Duvet far too hot

Review 49:Dinner

Review 50:As a solo business traveller, I felt very much at home and enjoyed my short stay in lovely surroundings. Will be back if I am in the area.

Review 51:The wifi didn't work in my room.

Review 52:Lovely staff; very helpful. Great views. Nice big room; loads of space.

Review 53:Little ambience in restraunt and bar , the bar could have the fire lit .

Review 54:The service

Review 55:the gentle atmosphere, food and lovely house and gardens.

Review 56:The rooms are tired and needed a cleaning.

Review 57:The staff were great and very helpful

Review 58:Seclusion No phone signal Total relaxation Friendly welcoming and attentive staff Excellent food

Review 59:1. Not good value for money. 2. No hot breakfast until after 08:00am is very poor service for business travellers.

Review 60:The staff were very helpful and the setting is perfect.

Review 61:Nothing

Review 62:The staff were very good and so was the food

Review 63:Friendly and excellent room and breakfast

Review 64:Enthusiastic staff. Imaginative dinner menu with food nicely cooked.

Review 65:Dated

Review 66:Location

Review 67:No clock or radio in bedroom. Very inconvenient tea tray arrangement making it difficult to get to kettle due to shortage of flex.

Review 68:Large room countryside views ample terrace and lounge space. Charming small diningroom. Well kept gardens - intriguing dining room tea cup arrangements. Minor complaints speedily rectfied.. Very helpful waitress at breakfast for local knowledge (Sarah)

Review 69:The WiFi was patchy - but a trivial point

Review 70:Excellent staff, and wonderfull hotel layout. The lounges make it very easy to work or sit and talk and the garden is 1st class

Review 71:Room was slightly tatty, wallpaper ripped. Bathroom dated and shower was a joke. Shower kept turning hot, then cold, no pressure.

Review 72:Location was awesome. Staff were very friendly, breakfast was very good

Review 73:We got there at 740 after a long drive and were asked even before we had the room if we wanted dinner. "can we look at the menu?" followed but it was made clear that we had better make our minds up right away because it was "last orders" (at 745!!! in a £150- a-night hotel). "do you do bar food/snacks" "no!". (As it turns out the menu was very pricey indeed at £32 for two courses, but all the same). The lovely public areas/bar for residents had been closed down with all the lights turned off by the time we got back from having dinner at the curry house in Lampeter (930!) and there was no hot water in the shower either that night or the following morning. Finally for such a well appointed, well-located and beautiful building and location, two sachets of nescafe coffee in the rooms seemed a little stingy and low-rent

Review 74:The Falcondale is beautiful building, in equally beautiful, rural and tranquil surroundings with big, well equipped bedrooms, big comfortable beds and nice bed linen and spacious public areas, ample parking and a good breakfast. And the market town of Lampeter is not far away, as is some beautiful coastline. The drive to get to Lampeter is also very beautiful.

Review 75:Very minor grumble only. No lift in my part of hotel so bringing luggage up later would have been a better offer than receptionist's personal one of help which I felt obliged to decline.

Review 76:Outstanding steak, great wine list, cheese board one of the best in a very long time. Restaurant staff very helpful, not intrusive, good balance. Restaurant manager thoughtful & considerate and remembered my preferences from the previous evening - perfect attention to detail. Good public spaces to relax so you can choose to be sociable without being forced to. Not cheap for area but worth it.

Review 77:No hot water! No mobile reception or wifi available. I do understand the weather was particularly bad so might be the problem. Please please please vacumn the carpet in the back office at reception gives a really bad impression.

Review 78:Loved the room. Staff so nice. Loved the fire in the bar. All sooooo comfortable.

Review 79:Hard bed; Booking.com had said we'd get a garden view but we didn't get one initially. First room decoration and furniture was tired. But we were immediately offered an alternative upgraded room because our first night was distrubed.

Review 80:Great rural location; beautiful countryside; imposing period hotel with great original features; good landscaped gardens; excellent breakfast. Wonderful staff - the ladies, especially, were charming. Room on second night was perfect - great view over the gardens and Welsh countryside; comfy bed. Perfect.

Review 81:The one small thing that would have made me happy, would have been if the desserts on the restaurant menu had been marked if suitable for vegetarians. I didn't know which, if any, contained animal gelatine or fats, so that would have been helpful. However, for the main course I was given a choice of vegetarian meals, which is a big plus!

Review 82:I liked everything really. It was quiet, so I was able to sleep right through the night, which isn't always possible in hotels. The service was excellent, staff friendly, polite and helpful. Wonderful countryside, and convenient for Lampeter and the coastal village of Aberaeron. I will definitely return.

Review 83:the complete attention to detail over every aspect of the hotel's facilities. Nothing was left to chance. One was always being surprised by something unexpected - like canapes suddenly being presented out of nowhere before dinner. Nothing was to much for the very friendly staff who clearly enjoyed entertaining their guests.

Review 84:leaving!!

Review 85:beautiful views,& building.very attractive decoration and furnishings classical not modern.friendly staff, good food everything high standard.

Review 86:the initial look of the building and garden. the friendly reception. the elegant and well appointed bedroom. the charming staff and excellent food.

Review 87:The room was a bit "tired", considering it was a superiorroom. To be fair, the owner acknowledged that this was the case, andthat the hotel is a "work in progress" and they told us aboutsome of their plans for improvements. Nevertheless, possibly a bitpricey. This is only a minor point.

Review 88:The staff were very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in theirguests. The bed and pillows were possibly the most comfortable I haveever had in a hotel. The evening meal was superb. I recommend thatguests eat there once, although they should be warned that it isexpensive.

Review 89:A very comfortable hotel and the staff were very helpful. I had dinner in the restaurant and had a fantastic meal. I only stayed for one night but would certainly stay there again.

Review 90:The music in the public area almost drove us to distraction. Woud havepreferred silence! The fridge motor in the bar seemed excessivelyintrusive in the lounge. The lighting in the lounge was too dim to beable to read or knit and enjoy the fire. We were offered a clip onlight, but this was ineffective. The following points are to be seen as 'helpful hints rather than criticisms: The sommelier poured our first glass of wine, but did not return to top up our glasses. [ A relatively small point, but one we are used to elsewhere.] Likewise, we normally find that a waiter showing us to our seats would pick up the napery by one corner and spread it across the lap. This did not happen, but is the sort of extra touch that 'lifts' the quality of service, without imposing on the time of the waiter. As it was, when the waiter brought the first course, he found himself asking us to remove the serviette from the place mat, so that he could put down the meal. Out of force of habit, we had not unfolded it ourselves up to that point. We had anticipated a different menu on our second evening, but it was identical to day one. We know that a small range of choice is a good attribute, but, for example, my wife likes to choose fish. To have done so on day two would have meant replication of day one, as there was the same [single] fish choice.

Review 91:The additional courses E.G. the soup and the sorbet -though the sorbetappeared to be overlooked on the second evening, at our table, but notat others. The offer to bring our table wine to us as we sat by the fire before the meal. The generally attentive approach of each employee.

Review 92:WiFi sporadic.

Review 93:Excellent hotel, and the restaurant food was superb.

Review 94:Dinner in the restaurant was amazing. Location and hotel grounds stunning

Review 95:Beautiful location, great views

Review 96:Poor Shower in bathoom

Review 99:The staff friendliness and the food.

Review 100:The setting very quiet and peaceful. The food The room very spacious with everything we needed and more

Review 101:No mobile reception and the room decor was very tired.

Review 102:The staff were friendly and our bathroom was spotlessly clean. We could get wi-fi.

Review 103:Good Service and friendly staff. Comfortable room and surrounding gardens are beautiful - can recommend a quiet evening on the terrace.

Review 104:Friendly atmosphere. Quiet surroundings.

Review 105:Quiet, beautiful scenery, good food.

Review 106:nothing

Review 107:Best dog-friendly hotel in the UK
