Reviews for Broomhall Castle
Review 1:The location is ideal if you wish to explore the surroundings and history of this given area. Broomhall castle itself is a very well maintained property with all the character you would expect. The staff are very welcoming and detailed within their approach to ensure your stay is made very special. I have now stayed here on business and social time and would, without doubt stay again.... The food is at a very good standard, throughout the evening and within breakfast.
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:Broomhall Castle is an imposing building set on a hillside, thus permitting good views over the lowlands to the south. It is conveniently situated for travellers being close to Stirling and the motorway. The staff are friendly and helpful, the dining room has good large tables and the food is of a high standard.
Review 4:Beautiful castle , great location , very large bedrooms lovely and warm rooms , staff very friendly , lovely full English breakfast ... would recommend
Review 5:Poor finish to room, very dusty wood surfaces two pubes and a large black hair in bath and one on windowsill plus one on wooden shelf along back of toilet. Somewhat bare walls in dining area needed some touches to make it more comfortable.
Review 6:Comfy bed good breakfast and fish nice at dinner, easy parking, big bath with lots of warm water. Friendly staff
Review 7:it could do with some cash put in to the rooms ie carpets and curtains but great value for money as the rooms are so big and the beds are great
Review 8:its a beautiful building has alot of potential
Review 9:No bungee jumping from the turrets, no escalators.
Review 10:It's a castle! Great staff, very personable and entertaining. Huge room, but the wifi is hit or miss there. However great reception in the common areas (as advertised ). Lower number of rooms lends to a wonderful, quite stay.
Review 11:Whow what a fantastic Castle overlooking the town in its own grounds, the room had real whow factor with a 4 Poster Bed, two settees and lovely views from the window, with a massive bathroom with shower and a separate bath. Fantastic Food - amazing, and staff pleasant and helpful
Review 12:Overall, the hotel was sub-standard and we found many faults during our stay there, we were hugely disappointed and will not be returning
Review 13:Broomhall Castle was in a beautiful location
Review 14:We arrived early evening but it was dark and not obvious where reception was. But we were given full attention once we found the door.
Review 15:The room was well presented, clean and comfortable.First time ever for me that the room could be considered as too warm (in a Scottish windy winter). This is not a bad experience for me! Evening meal : Good choice, well presented and meal was excellent.
Review 16:Standards of cleaning left a lot to be desired. The general wear and tear of carpets and paintwork. Which is a shame as the castle itself is amazing
Review 17:The breakfast was second to none. Excellent local produce
Review 18:There is no dedicated reception staff so it can take a bit of time to find someone and get checked in. The friendly atmosphere of the place definitely makes up for this little inconvenience!
Review 19:The food was fantastic. Best sticky toffee pudding, ever! Super friendly staff!
Review 20:Disappointed there was no fire on in the lounge as it was very cold.
Review 21:Excellent comfortable rooms, pictures of highland cows, suits of armour and squeaky floorboards - just as it should be! Excellent food with good quality produce.
Review 22:The driveway was appalling, full of potholes and a menace to navigate especially in the dark. The food was ok, pricey for what you got and nothing to shout about. The squeaky floorboards and lack of sound proofing was troublesome, from the room above we heard every step during the night, every pee and every flush. there is a bar to retire to but with one girl taking food orders, serving it up, attending to new arrivals and serving at the bar, you would be hard pushed to drink much in a night. A fair breakfast was served up but attention to detail was lacking, we were offered one cup of coffee once during our stay and had to help ourselves if we were to have any more. Maybe I'm doing the place a disservice but I expected more for the price we paid.
Review 23:It was something that had to be experienced and the grandeur of the building when lit up at night as you arrive was very nice.
Review 24:The outside looks like a castle. The inside looks like a cheap residence hall! Peeling paint, sparse decorations, disgusting old furniture, mold and mildew in the bathroom, elevator broken, no wifi in the rooms ... I could go on. Our worst night of our vacation! I can't figure out why some people give it such high marks. It was disgusting!
Review 25:The staff were very gracious and welcoming.
Review 26:Lift was out of order Room decor not as impressive as the exterior Food quiet expensive compared to the room price
Review 27:Awesome building with vast veiws Turret room amazing Felt like somewhere special Bargain room price for such a special place
Review 28:I just felt you could make a proper reception area as when we got there we had to go wondering through the rooms to find a member of staff.
Review 29:The food was fantastic and the staff were excellent.
Review 30:Nothing . Everything was top notch
Review 31:Amazing place wonderful staff would stay again .. good food really great and special experience! My first ever stay in a castle !
Review 32:Nothing really bad to say.
Review 33:Large room. Great view. Bath AND shower. Great location for visits to historic Stirling or commuting to Galsgow/Edinburgh. Set right in the Ochil Hills with lots of walks (short or long). Breakfast (and dinner) was excellent. Most of all though was a really comfortable bed.
Review 34:Poor signage. Elevator "didn't work," but was used for luggage. Not handicapped friendly. Toilet did not flush properly. Room cold at arrival. Breakfast below average. Fit and finish not good. Cracks in plaster. TV reception was very poor. WiFi not in rooms. Very inadequate lighting.
Review 35:The lifts did not work the staff were friendly enough but took a bit time to serve you.
Review 36:The room was lovely nice decor wardrobe was a bit mouldy inside could Not hang clothes up.
Review 37:struggling to think of anything so that means no dislikes
Review 38:quietness, four-poster bed, in general amazing . staff very helpful food was fantastic will visit again (when weather is better ) although weather did not spoil our break
Review 39:WE DID HAVE A SMALL PROBLEM WITH THE CENTRAL HEATING AS IT WAS ON ALL NIGHT IN ONE OF THE ROOMS WE HAD BOOKED - A BIT TOO WARM TO SLEEP
Review 40:SITUATED IN EASY ASSESSABLE PART OF THE VILLAGE.
Review 41:In need of a refurb. In the bedroom carpet threadbare in parts. Bath not very clean. Green scrambled egg inedible!! Plain decor needs a character injection. Needs a reception desk or bell.
Review 42:Liked location, friendly and helpful staff when you could find them. The building was lovely. Bed in room lovely. A cracking hotel in the making.
Review 43:Fantastic location and friendly staff made thus 2 night stay an absolute pleasure. Quirky castle hotel with relaxed informal ambience us great for a couple getaway. Highly rated hotel.
Review 44:No a bad expeience but the Bar closed a little too early for our late arrival. We all understood the young lady seving us in the evening would be also serving breakfast. A small change in staffing may alliviate this
Review 45:The location, the view and being an old spacious building. Although we arrived very late the staff were very helpful, accomodating and congenial. The late night "univited" guest that kept opening the lounge doors was an added attraction !! Lovely filling breakfast to send us on our way.
Review 46:Not important but decor a bit old fashioned and uninspired
Review 47:Very attractive building, warm, big soft towels, very friendly hard working staff, Very Good breakfast and quite good dinner
Review 48:The radio in the restaurant area was annoying. Just needed proper set up with some music more appropriate to the setting
Review 49:Impressive building. Helpful staff. Food was excellent. Room very comfortable and well provisioned. Went for business but would be a great romantic retreat. Great value for money
Review 50:We paid a budget price and got a very budget room in the top of the hotel. The bedroom door wouldn't stay shut unless it was locked. I did have an issue with the bathroom but as soon as I had pointed out the problem it was corrected. The lift wasn't working.
Review 51:The staff were very helpful, nice breakfast, huge bed and was amazingly comfortable.
Review 52:Staff were excellent & really helpful. Breakfast looked great, but was to hungover to eat it. So couldn't appreciate it !! Going to take my wife soon. The castle was beautiful. Definitely a great place to stay, if you're going to Alloa or Stirling. Both 10 minutes away in a taxi. At £55. Well worth it !!
Review 53:I didn't like the lack of staff in places. Nobody was at reception and I witnessed other guests' frustration upon checking out. I was frustrated that there was no-one at the bar. I had to go and find someone to serve us. In the room we had I also didn't like the mattress. It was very lumpy. Lighting within the room was very dim. This made reading almost impossible. The driveway leading to the hotel had no outside lights, which was inadequate given the holes in the driveway. We had no car and were walking. My girlfriend almost went over her ankle. Although the food was excellent, there seemed inaccuracies with regard to the menu. Things we expected were not presented and we had to ask for them. The staff were very friendly but attention to detail should be foremost.
Review 54:The staff were very friendly and helpful, if a bit sparse. The food was wonderful - breakfast and dinner. The medieval atmosphere created by the interior décor was great and the surrounding woodlands was an added attraction to the location.
Review 55:Only average quality furniture and fittings. What is going on with the doors to the rooms? They are definitely not inviting, looks more like a hostel!
Review 56:Outside view very charming and inviting
Review 57:Not very much. It is a quirky place with some interesting history but more than does the job.
Review 58:Clean and comfortable. Arranged a late supper. Did all we needed.
Review 59:I can't understand paying £22 for 6 chicken nuggets and one chicken fillet and some mash potatoes and the ckicken nuggets were proscesed chicken which was terribke .
Review 60:The views were great. Staff were really nice and happy to help. The room was really big and bed was comfy. It was the best sleep iv had.
Review 61:You could feel the bed slats through the mattress, the floorboards creak loudly through multiple rooms and the walls between rooms are so thin you can hear the toilets flush, showers run and even the light switches flick in the other guests rooms. The WiFi only works in the main entrance hall but even then it's patchy and slow and you can only receive two TV channels at best due to the thick walls and individual TV aerials in each room. Also the carpeting was threadbare.
Review 62:The staff we're friendly and very helpful. The castle was very clean, externally visually authentic.
Review 63:Lift not working and I had to carry a heavy bag up 4 flights of stairs.Nowhere to put things down in the bathroom and no hook for hand towel. Had to ask for a hairdryer.
Review 64:Great location.Good restaurant.
Review 65:Menu was too expensive, would've preferred a simpler bar menu as an alternative.
Review 66:Excellent room, huge with great view. Beautiful building, easy to find.
Review 67:Not a thing.
Review 68:Not much to like. Old run down castle hotel. Staff did it's best, but the castle was in poor shape. room was awful. cast iron tube leaked (alot), toilet also leaked. Dirty dark room. Restaurant facilities was not very clean, by that I mean the silverware and glassware was not clean.
Review 69:Lack of staff and services in this vast property. Lift did not work and we had room in attic with only roof windows.
Review 70:Building itself impressive, if you want to stay in a castle at reasonable cost. Comfortable bed. Good parking.
Review 71:No reception and no sign what to do, when you enter. There should be sign that you must call someone or so, to check in. The castle from inside is bit austere, would appreciate more "victorian" suspicion, and newer carpets.
Review 72:Very nice castle, mainly from outside, free wifi, very good breakfast, cozy clean room, nice view.
Review 73:No WiFi in rooms, no desk or chair in room to be able to use laptop, food expensive and a bit pretentious, breakfast didn't start until 8am when many business people have early starts. No real reception desk, just a big cupboard.
Review 74:Good signposts
Review 75:The bar was shut by 9pm on a weekend? Also the place needs a little tlc to bring it up to standard, all the floors are very squeaky throughout so every movement at night is really noisey ! Don't expect a good sleep.
Review 76:The rooms had plenty of space and the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was pretty good in the morning.
Review 77:Nothing really..the hallways are a bit shabby,.its just a bit old and creaky, but it is a castle after all ...
Review 78:Loved staying in a Castle, the room was huge, the bed amazing, the atmosphere great
Review 79:Elevator broken and room was 'way up'. Rugs stained. Walls dirty, chipped, splattered. Not imbued with the grace of running a B&B
Review 80:Friendly staff
Review 81:The bar had no real ales just pressurised keg......totally undrinkable. So had an orange juice instead.
Review 82:The staff, especially Danielle who went the extra mile to see that we got quickly settled in. The fantastically comfortable king sized bed.
Review 83:I expected more of a castle 'feeling' inside. So sparse of decor. No view from my room. Felt it didn't live up to the $$.
Review 84:The staff were so friendly and courteous. Enjoyed the outer castle structure. Food was good/plentiful
Review 85:The bed was huge and very comfortable, the room was also huge and well equipped with nice decor. The building itself was very nice, with great views. We only stayed one night before travelling on to Skye, so the hearty breakfast was appreciated. Staff were very helpful too
Review 86:Front entrance could be improved by making the step cement level and keeping the area swept clean, especially from cigarette butts.
Review 87:The general appearance of Broomhall is so beautiful, day or night. The night lighting makes the place look magical! The main front bedroom was lovely and the modern bathroom is very convenient. Nice wedding reception and guest parlor area for relaxing. Helpful staff.
Review 88:We enjoyed the very comfortable room and bed, clawfoot bathtub (with good shower too), good diinner, interesting building. Location is convenient for visiting Stirling and Doune castles. Outstanding sticky toffee pudding!!!
Review 89:During a heavy storm, water began leaking into our room over a window and over a door leading into the bathroom, leaving quite a lot of water on the floor. We think it was coming from blocked guttering. The manager (?) with an Italian (?) accent came and dried it all up but it happened again and all he could say was that it would stop as soon as it stopped raining!
Review 90:Very interesting place to stay with views over Stirling and surrounding countryside. Very good breakfast and excellent dinner in the restaurant. Young staff worked very hard to ensure comfort of visitors. Nice room and lovely to have an actual bath in the bathroom! Good to have a lift provided even though it was a bit slow.
Review 91:No phone in room to contact reception etc..there was a power cut one night & we couldn't contact front of house.
Review 92:Staff were very friendly and helpfull. Exellent location & great value for money.
Review 93:The rooms are fine but the inside of the hotel isn't as dramatic as the outside. Not very convenient to town.
Review 94:Nice enough place to stay, the outside of the building is dramatic with a great view of the surrounding area. Included breakfast and option for dinner was convenient and adequate.
Review 95:The present owners have done a wonderful job restoring the castle given its history, however parts of the room I was in seemed a bit tatty or unfinished, like there was no care in the craftsmanship of the door frames with nail holes left unputtied and parts not painted, door handle holes in the walls from having no door stoppers etc.
Review 96:A unique experience. Very comfortable luxurious bed. Lovely claw foot bathtub. Terrific food. The scallops/asparagus entree was superb.
Review 97:Breakfast time and check out time was a bit early, the room and great bed begged for a late start
Review 98:Great authentic castle with really nice staff that make you feel at home, the ghost tour was an unexpected treat!! And the four poster bedroom was enormous (although haunted!!)
Review 99:only comment was the scrambled eggs at breakfast tasted like powdered eggs
Review 100:The staff were so welcoming, felt like we were staying in a home. Loved the ambiance of a castle design, dinner was fab, staff could answer questions re local landmarks or roads and it has a beautiful lounge/bar area
Review 101:We visited for our 25th wedding anniversary and the staff couldn't have made it more special. The room was lovely and the food amazing would definitely recommend it.
Review 102:We specifically booked the red room because it looked so nice going by the picture we saw on booking.com. What a shock we got when entering the room as it was filthy ie burn mark on the carpet left by an iron, hole in the ceiling, chairs by the window were heavy soiled and broken. shower seal was full of hopefully just mould. Was woken up by noise above us at around 6 am, by what sounded like walking around which I assume was the staff. When we went down for our breakfast, the radio in the dining room was really loud. not nice to listen to first thing in the morning. We asked the full English breakfast which was another disappointment . food was under cooked and swimming in grease. so much so we could eat it .At that point we thought enough is enough and backed our bags and left. This is a beautiful castle from the outside but on the inside it a horror . We both are Scottish and we both felt this is an embarrassment to our Scottish tourism .The owners should be ashamed .
Review 103:The outside of the castle
Review 104:Arrangement of furniture made the room awkward to enjoy. The room was large enough to be a junior suite with but a few changes. A shame as furniture and fittings are of a high standard.
Review 105:This is a very special property with great potential. It needs some finishing touches to make it an excellent hotel.
Review 106:Nothing! It was all wonderful!
Review 107:Beautiful old castle, lovely high ceilings in the bedroom, excellent lounge facilities. Great breakfast. The hosts were welcoming and friendly - we had a really enjoyable stay. This location was perfect for accessing Stirling Castle.
Review 108:The private road to the hotel is in very poor condition.
Review 109:The size of our room, it was fantastic, as was the comfort of our four poster bed. Great views and very peaceful. The staff were first class and very kind.
Review 110:Our room seemed a bit of a spare room. Small details like poor carpet were noticeable.
Review 111:Friendly staff. Young and enthusiastic. Great dining hall. Excellent restoration effort. Good food.
Review 112:Not enough staff. There were 2 young, very nice members of staff that were over seeing everything, from checking in to bar tending to waitressing. Therefore we were waiting for quite a while. Same at breakfast. We were sat for about 20 minutes with no one coming to us (it wasn't busy) and in the end I had to call a waitress over to order - took another 20 minutes just to get some toast !
Review 113:The room was beautiful and very spacious.
Review 114:Seems to be a work in progress- great function hotel- still more to do on guest side. Little basics missing eg towel rail in bathroom
Review 115:Location and ambience
Review 116:The iron was left out on the interior window sill. No doubt resting after its unfortunate encounter with the carpet. The paintwork was chipped and grubby and the room had been indifferently dusted and hoovered. But all this paled into insignificance when confronted with a gaping crack in the ceiling. Now no doubt the management will respond by saying they wished the guest had raised these points at the time. Unfortunately he or she were notable by their absence. Not a bad place to stay really but they could do better.
Review 117:Friendly staff.
Review 118:Bar and restaurant lacking a bit of finishing touches and atmosphere. Room doors need updating. A bell on the reception desk would be helpful.
Review 119:Great location, friendly staff, beautiful room and comfortable bed, breakfast excellent, good value for money
Review 120:The building and setting is fantastic. Rooms are nice and the service good. Perfect way to start a holiday in Scotland and not much more expensive than a B&B.
Review 121:Our room felt a little empty and out of character as we were staying in a "castle" although it was large and clean a few extra pieces of furniture, especially in the sitting room area would have made it feel more homely, I had to sit on the floor in front of the mirror to dry my hair as there was no chair in the room to sit on.
Review 122:The exterior of the hotel is beautiful, and a good location for visiting the Wallace monument and Stirling attractions. Bar in hotel as you have to drive to center.
Review 123:This accommodation has so much potential but needs a little TLC. Check in was a little bazaar with no real reception area or any way of contacting anyone other than walking through the dinning hall! Our room was tired and had a wet bathroom floor. There was an iron burn on the carpet and dirty cups! One bath towel each and nothing else. Dinner was OK but we were led to believe that dining was nearly when we reserved this was not true and might have indicated the disappointing variety and quality.
Review 124:The staff made a lot of effort to cover over obvious cracks.
Review 125:Good breakfast, and lovely little turret in the room for a quiet read. It was accessible to many of the tourist attractions nearby and had a lovely feel about the place.
Review 126:The decor in the rooms is a bit in need of updating. Given the beautiful grand exterior of the castle it would be nice if the bedrooms were painted in softer colours.
Review 127:Lovely friendly staff, clean, beautiful setting.
Review 128:Its a castle, whats not to like. The meals were great, with a great location just outside Stirling. There were some minor cosmetic problems with the room, but overall great stay.
Review 129:Foremost, the restaurant: it being the best one 'in town' does not make it the one I would recommend - at best average quality food, bit overpriced. There is really little to do at walking distance from the castle. However, if you have a car, the location is quite good
Review 130:The outside of broomhall is pretty, it looks like a real castle. Our room was very basic, but well cared for -and I believe they do have prettier rooms.
Review 131:Just had a bit of difficulty finding it but it's location was very good for what we wanted!
Review 132:Loved the fact that it was a real castle ... and I had the key to it! Staff were brilliant, lovely authentic feel to it and delicious breakfast!
Review 133:Friendly young people that not seams to have lots of experience of working in a restaurant. As a guest, you will survive but you don´t feel spoiled. I would not go here for a good dinner. We even had to serve the wine our self.. But that made us laugh and we thought that was the manners in Scotland.
Review 134:Friendly young people that not seams to have lots of experience of working. But any way friendly..
Review 135:Design is very poor and not cosy at all, broken lamps are not being changed, spiderwebs and dust everywhere and dirty outside with cigarettes buds. With the right approach could be a great place to stay.
Review 136:They have their own restaurant and a nice breakfast.
Review 137:Needs a bit of t l c .little touches such as a couple of comfortable chairs in rooms. A mirror near a plug for the ladies hair and makeup and floorboards need to be repaired.
Review 138:Helpfulness/friendliness of staff
The Fine Print
