Reviews for Britannia Hotel
Review 1:Loved the history to the building great chandeliers
Review 2:Fantastic staff. The receptionist and conceraige (mikel) think that's right. We're amazing. Had a lovely night. Very comfy beds.
Review 3:Very noisy location - above a nightclub - I couldn't sleep. Towels were dirty. Room was small and tiny double bed! I asked to change tooms but after 35 mins the porters who had been promised to help move my bags still hadn't come, so I gave up! Very basic breakfast
Review 4:Central location reasonable price Wifi was reasonable Beautiful stairway and chandeliers
Review 5:Carvery needs support from a good a laptop carte menu. Lift keeps being out of order.
Review 6:Location was perfect. Internal decoration is 'grand' in the sense of 1980s but needs a contemporary make over.
Review 7:The room I stayed in. The Floor boards creaked every time I moved. The bed was very uncomfortable and there was no plug near the kettle. Very disappointed with the room. I will not be staying in the hotel again.
Review 8:The staff were very helpful and polite. The breakfast was very nice but expensive for what I ate. The location of the hotel was in a good location as it was really close to where the conference was that I was attending.
Review 9:Old and dated, all round noisy hotel. My room was on the quiet side of the hotel, however the aged windows didn't block out any noise from outside
Review 10:Large spacious rooms, good central location
Review 11:Staff weren't great, very poorly run hotel, there's only 2 irons in the building and its on the 3rd floor in a room, shower leaked also.
Review 12:Location was handy
Review 13:I got charge for my room twice but the problem was immediately resolved by the extremely polite staff! No complaints :)
Review 14:The staff was very friendly and accomodating. Really excellent, helpful and respectful service!
Review 15:The hotel is a little dated but adds to its character. The curtains did not fully cover the windows in the room
Review 16:I liked the location of the hotel. Staff helpful & pleasent. The room was clean & comfortable
Review 17:The bed was really uncomfortable, and we were woken up at 3am by someone unable to use their key in the room next door, then there was really loud construction outside from 5:30am, neither the hotels fault to be fair.
Review 18:Great location, beautiful hotel (reception and staircase) lovely staff.
Review 19:The carpet in the bedroom had not been vacuumed. Two thirds of the double glazing panels in the bedroom window were missing. There was quite a draught! A broken leg on the bed.
Review 20:Wonderful Victorian ambience and grandeur. You really felt that you were in a proper hotel. Great value for money.
Review 21:Some parts of the room was a little cold at times (perhaps, because it was too big).
Review 22:Friendly and helpful Staff The STUNNING Architecture (The staircase was unbelievable) Better seen LIVE! Massive! Very Central and not too far from train station (Perfect Location for Manchester) NOt far from Old Trafford and Etihad Stadia, SERIOUSLY!!!
Review 23:Awful place, peeling wallpaper, cracked ceilings. No toiletries, phone and wifi didn't work. Can hear everything through the walls. Couldn't wait to leave.
Review 24:Leaving
Review 25:The curtains won't draw so the room was very light and didn't block out any of the noise from the roadworks below.
Review 26:Good value for money, the room was very comfortable. Excellent location.
Review 27:No plug sockets in useful places in the rooms! I had to put the kettle on the floor to plug it in!
Review 28:I like the restaurant and bar facilities, the hotel was warm, clean with helpful staff.
Review 29:Annoying housekeepers twice they knocked on when we paid for late check out. Broke window, no room service phone, lightfitting broke just not worth the price
Review 30:The bed
Review 31:Great location right in the middle of the city close to all public transport. Very nice, friendly and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast was really nice. The bed and pillows were very comfortable
Review 32:£116 for this room, I don't think it's worth £116 And I'm a bit disappointed about car parking, you had to walk 10 mins to get hotel when you have car park round the corner ? It's a bit ripped off Sort it out :-/ And it took me an hour to find the hotel because of the road works.
Review 33:The room is lovely, the shower is brilliant
Review 34:The wifi was pretty patchy and unreliable, and the shower wasn't consistent.
Review 35:Very good location right in the centre of manchester, a good price, comfy bed and clean, warm rooms.
Review 36:It was very cheap looking rooms and staff were rude, especially security.. I asked for room service and was told I'd have to go downstairs to pay and collect, what then is he point of room service?! Never again!
Review 37:The location was great.. and the building itself beautiful.. Rooms not so much
Review 38:No main light in the room, needs updating. Not value for money. Looked tired and drab in places. Rooms quite small. Can get much bigger rooms at differrent hotels for same price.
Review 39:Location.
Review 40:Some of the lights in the room did not work, the bed was uncomfortable and there was only one plug socket which was in an awkward place.
Review 41:The staff were very friendly
Review 42:Very small double bed, barely space for a cot, no fridge in room for baby food, very slow reception
Review 43:Very central location, low price, great helpful door staff
Review 44:Asked for quiet room ended up with generator outside the skylight, also only 2 plug sockets in the room heating didn't work got given electric heater but couldn't plug it in until we left to go out for the evening when there was a free socket to use!!!
Review 45:Was given 10% discount and free bottle of wine for inconvenience
Review 46:Wi-fi worked poorly. Had a strong signsl, but it was not possible to download anything, therefore it's hardly suitable for business purposes. If your room is in the wings be prepared to enjoy office in it's activity from 8 to 6 from your window. And those there will enjoy your activity at the hotel.
Review 47:The location is great. The room is spacey and comfortable.
Review 48:Bedrooms very cold and although it says toiletries provided these were very basic.
Review 49:The décor is in keeping with the age of the building - a bygone era.
Review 50:The hotel is located right in the city centre and have stayed many times for business and pleasure. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the rooms clean and comfortable.
Review 51:The room was old and in desperate need of refurbishment, the shower curtain had mold on it, as did some of the sealant around the bath tub. Neither of the sliding wardrobe doors closed properly, it looked as if the runners had broken. The TV was very small and badly placed, you couldn't see the screen from the bed. Only two plug sockets, both placed on the opposite side of the room, only one was working so you couldn't charge your phone and keep it next to you for your alarm. The bed was uncomfortable and squeaked every time you moved. The windows kept very little noise out overnight. The pizza restaurant was uninspiring, the food was under-cooked and the only waitress kept leaving to deliver room service pizzas. I don't know if this was due to staff shortage but there were only three tables in use and she was run off of her feet, I will add that she was very nice and was working extremely hard. That was the first ever inner city hotel I have stayed at with a cash bar and a charging cash machine in the foyer, again, the bar was in need of a re-furb, most of the armchairs were uncomfortable and lots had holes in the upholstery. Lastly the lifts were incredibly slow and one of the sets of doors didn't open properly. All in all, the building is stunning, it is a shame about the condition that it is kept in. With money spent in the right places, it has the potential to be a beautiful hotel.
Review 52:The location was good and easy to find on foot from the station. The reception area and staircase were impressive when you walk through the front door. The reception staff were polite, efficient and helpful.
Review 53:for us it was great... location spot on, the room was very clean and comfy, cracking shower, hot water and plenty of it, not noisy at all as some said!, this is a great value stay, whilst our room had no window which we new in advance it did not hinder us at all.
Review 54:Key card didn't work so had to walk far back to desk and then wait long time in line for help.
Review 55:Great value for money! Very quiet. Clean and well decorated
Review 56:The room was dingy poor decoration.wallpaper hanging of wall and cielling bathroom stunk vile paint splashes everywhere bath all chipped and bed was tiny and very uncomfy.
Review 57:Nothing. We stayed for 5 hours and couldnt stand anymore so checked out and stayed at another hotel!
Review 58:Limited choice of TV stations, and charges for Wikipedia. Room lighting not very generous.
Review 59:Very good central location, handy for bus, tram and train stations. Convenient also for nightlife.
Review 60:The room was awful, positioned next to a night club and music was playing well in to the early hours of the morning, didnt get much more than a couple of hours sleep.
Review 61:The staff were very pleasant and helpful
Review 62:Bar staff was over enthusiastic. Glasses were removed as if there was a shortage. !!!! Couch was not v comfortable.
Review 63:1st visit to Manchester. Location was excellent. Receptionist was amazing. She was super friendly and v informative.
Review 64:Warm, clean, comfortable room with en suite bathroom, I slept well with no disturbances. Superb breakfast every morning, pleasant and helpful staff, and in general a first rate city centre hotel. Highly recommended.
Review 65:Room was dirty, bed was broken walls were dirty, shower had hair and grime over it. It wasn't worth the money we paid room was very out dated will not be staying here again!
Review 66:First room given had holes in walls, damp on ceiling, no main light and a broken lamp with nails hanging out of the bed.after complaining we were given a second room still very dated with damp on ceiling but better than the first. However the very small TV did only receive 4 very fussy channels.
Review 67:The reception area of the hotel is lovely with an easy access location.
Review 68:Too noisy, windows were letting in a breeze making the curtains sway, bath tub/shower was cracked and repaired poorly, room door wouldn't lock, no big light in the room just a table lamp, check in queue was huge waited ages, the beds are not comfy at all didn't sleep due to this problem.
Review 69:Good location in city centre if you are just wanting a room if you're on a night out.
Review 70:Paid for late check out, was woken up by cleaners stating that it hasn't been paid. On departure spoke to reception and they said they forgot to put it in the book...
Review 71:Staff were friendly and willin to help help on arrival. Good location and room was ok
Review 72:We requested a smoking room which was great but it had no windows so was very hot and stuffy, uncomfartable to sleep although we did get a fan brought to our room
Review 73:The location was very central so was nice to be close to everything, and the staff were very polite
Review 74:No main lights in the room, only lamps, tiny "double" bed, outdated rooms, sticky bath, hardly any space, any plug sockets...for £200 it was shambolic.
Review 75:Staff were friendly
Review 76:The bar staff were slightly rude. No iron in our room. The fan in the room as quite lovelies through the night.
Review 77:Great location! Beautiful character to the hotel. Comfortable!
Review 78:The walls were very thin, and I could hear the TV very clearly from the room next door. Unfortunately, they watched lots of TV during my stay!
Review 79:Great location. Friendly and efficient staff. Very retro! It was my first time to Manchester, and the location was perfect for a one-day trip in the city.
Review 80:windows didn't open very wide so got very smokie and very warm Food was ok but maybe keep it abit warmer as when we got down for breakfast about half 9 was just warm not hot and when we went up for some more we had our table taken so we just walked out maybe have a sign for people to put on there table to let others know it's taken
Review 81:We got a smoking room and was on the front of hotel
Review 82:The inner rooms without windows are far too hot. We had one small fan given as the air con did not work. We had 2 rooms it was the same in both. The bed was tiny. Only recommended if you get a cheap deal. Would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price.
Review 83:The bar area and foyer are very nice. Good friendly service in the bar. Nice comfortable atmosphere.
Review 84:No mini bar in the room, nowhere for fresh water other than the bathroom tap, no complimentary shampoo or toothpaste, not enough sugar and milk. No facility to open a window in the smoking room which gets a bit too smokey. Wasn't an ironing board or hair dryer. Only one plug next to the kettle. The list is endless. I wouldn't ever stay here again.
Review 85:Option for smoking and non smoking
Review 86:Bed was like sleeping on concrete!! Breakfast far to expensive. Telly never worked properly could only watch BBC channels
Review 87:Hotel was fantastic! Beautiful to look at. Clean tidy and the staff were lovely!
Review 88:Wifi system could do with improving had great difficulty in using internet although was connected according to phones would not download from internet. Also an opening window was high up and had to stand on chair to close and open. Window catch was broken and window did not close properly. Water ran out of wash basin very slowly probably pipes blocked. Wall lights did not work bulbs missing
Review 89:Good breakfast with plenty of choice, comfortable beds , pleasant staff. Room was very warm on arrival but was controllable with thermostatic valves on radiators. Ample supply of hot water all day.
Review 90:They do not accept early check in.. So when your flight will arrive before 2pm do not book on this hotel . The wifi is also poor.
Review 91:The location is good.
Review 92:Shower broke whilst using it. Floor gets wet when you take a shower. Equipment in the room getting very old and would need to be refreshed.
Review 93:Very helpful staff and welcoming. Location is great. Breakfast is good, need some more nicer continental option though .
Review 94:Thought it was very reasonable price for Central Manchester. Staff friendly although didn't have much to do with them as I had room only.would stay again
Review 95:A room for 4 was booked but just a double bed in room despite reassurances from desk that additional beds would be supplied. Arrived back from theatre 9.30, still no beds. Younger children very tired and despite calls to desk no beds arrived until 10.30 (first arrival just towels and beddings...). Camp beds extremely uncomfortable and had to be layered with towels to enable the children to sleep. Finally got children to sleep at 2.30am. Not the relaxing break I was hoping for! Staff unconcerned, simply passing me email address of head office to make a complaint. We're booking across the road next tine!
Review 96:Good location, well placed for tram travel.
Review 97:The internet access code has changed but the old one is still posted in the room information
Review 98:The comfort and feel of the building along with the breakfast (extra but worth the £7 offer)
Review 99:Staff walked into the room without warning or recognition of who they were. Paid extra for executive room but was very poor, very dated, had creaky floorboards from one side of the room to the other, had a leaking shower which made the room below have to move. Have written a complaint to the company but have not heard anything back
Review 100:Nothing
Review 101:The bath was old and damaged so looked very unclean. The shower leaked out of the side on to the bathroom floor , the toilet wobbled when you sat on it. The heat in the room was unbearable and you couldn't leave the window open as the catch was broken so in the wind was swinging and banging. The staff didn't offer us the option to add breakfast on or advise on a check out time!
Review 102:Nothing it was a real disappointment!
Review 103:Being kept awake past 3am by people in an adjoining room playing their TV. Then being told by your reception staff the following morning 'There is nothing we can do about it'. An apology would be nice and reassurance that they try to put those guests likely to be up till late away from others.
Review 104:The waitress in the Pizza restaurant worked non stop with an ill tempered chef. She deserves credit for her hard work and calm manner, he needs to improve his manners.
Review 105:Arrived second time very disappointed for €220 to be sent to an attic room very poor and then next room was moved to had no windows , food in the Italian restaurant was very poor as well
Review 106:Liked the location was there before and loved hotel
Review 107:Queued to check in, rather tired feel, long wait in bar. Breakfast crowded, noisy and not relaxing.
Review 108:Wonderful Victorian building in city center location
Review 109:I booked a superior suite online; a four poster bedroom. I was given a room whose furnishings could best be described as tatty. There was no four poster bed and there was an overwhelming smell of cigarette smoke. Indeed as soon as we walked onto the corridor from the lift we could smell stale cigarette odour. I returned to reception and requested a different room which I was thankfully granted. The room was fair but I felt did not meet the billing of 'superior suite' especially not the 20 year Wedding Anniversary quality room I had hoped for.
Review 110:The Location.
Review 111:The hotel can do with an update. In the bathroom we found hairs/pubic/head in the bath, that put me off and ended up bleaching the bath. check out should be 12 rather than 11am.
Review 112:the hotel is great for a night out in the near bars and china town.
Review 113:Lady on receiption, I queued for over half an hour and checked in at 1pm, room was not ready. She bluntly told me to come back a hour later and queue again just to collect the key for the room. Really bad. Room very basic, good how the Britania shows the good parts of the hotel on the internet like the reception. 4 O'clock in the morning we could hear football fans singing at the top of their voices. This went on for over an hour, I don't think security at the Britania go higher than the ground floor. I will never stop at the hotel again.
Review 114:Amazing decor in the reception, the ceiling and the chandaliers gave tbe wow factor.
Review 115:Nothing.
Review 116:Handy for the shops, not to far from the train station. Hotel was fine for the price we paid. We didn't eat at the hotel so can't comment on the food.
Review 117:Very dated, check-in took forever due to a large queue and only two people on reception and the receptionist gave the impression she couldn't be bothered. Rooms very basic and tired.
Review 118:Great Location
Review 119:I booked a room from the 27th-28th Dec after arriving back back from the theatre around 2am. I was greeted by two security guards on the door who ask for my room number which I totally for got. I shown them my key an said let me ask at receiption and I will tell you. However even with proof for the key we still wasn't allowed in! I had to go to the hotel across the street an book a room (£143) an come back to your hotel at 7am to collect my bags. It wasn't been a good weekend.
Review 120:DONT STAY HERE
Review 121:Noisy on the front of the hotel facing Portland Street but this is Manchester! We're 24 hour party people!
Review 122:Great location, central. Very nice, friendly staff.
Review 123:The facility is dated, the room and hotel not well maintained. Wall paper stripped, wooden barrier/partition loose and left not fitted. The food was poor quality.
Review 124:Not much apart from the hotel being in the City Centre!
Review 125:The room was like a cupboard and the furniture appeared to be rejectsfrom a charity shop. The bed was supposed to be a double - it would beok for a couple of very friendly midgets. The whole hotel is about 30years passed its prime.
Review 126:It only lasted 90 minutes!
Review 127:Empty Condom wrappers, k.y. jelly and baby oil under matress and baby oil leaked under bed. Apart from that very clean.
Review 128:Loved waking up in Manchester City Centre. Lovely hotel.
Review 129:Even though we got a very cheap ( due to lack of demand ) deal the room we were given was supposed to be a double but was actually a 4' divan and the room was very tired. Surely if you want people to come back let them have the best you have not the least you can get away with ??
Review 130:Location and the building
Review 131:Noise levels, music until 3am, our room was on 1st floor, just by the central staircase, so whole wall vibrated with the base beat! At midnight I went to reception to enquirer when music would be ending, we were given an alternative room on the 4 th floor, somewhat better but as it was the same location just a few floor up the music could still be heard. The stay began badly with a 40min queue to book in on our arrival.
Review 132:Location walking distance to centre of Manchester.
Review 133:Layout of suite could have been better. Some of the decor a little tired.
Review 134:Fantastic city centre location and very convenient for train station. Hotel has Lots of character, staff were very helpful and friendly
Review 135:The fact the Happy Hour nature of the bar is not really 'Happy Hour' as such
Review 136:Location, staff friendliness, value for money, nice foyer area in christmas spirit
Review 137:Everything, I was very impressed with the appearance and the cleanliness of the hotel. I didn't review the hotel, so it was a very pleasant surprise when i actually arrived and will definitely stay there again as it was also value for money and will recommend to friends and family
Review 138:The building was very dated. The ques at check in were far to long. I've never stayed in a worse hotel. Shouting from rooms in the night. It was dreadful. I've been trying to get hold of an email address to contact the hotel. If you could please help me with this it would be much appreciated.
Review 139:There was nothing great about the hotel.
Review 140:Very overpriced for the room you get. Windows didn't keep noise out. Would have been useful to have known that there was a discount at the Town Car Park rather than finding out after parking elsewhere and seeing the sign behind the check in desk.
Review 141:The location is excellent, really close to town centre and bars. The NCP car park was just around the corner.
Review 142:Room was uncomfortably hot even with radiator off. Window could be opened but then you get a lot of street noise.
Review 143:Swanky hotel with stunning decor and a real sense of class. Good breakfast too. Room was large and nicely furnished
