Reviews for The Harrowgate Hill Lodge
Review 1:Hotel was perfect for what we needed, local to the centre Clean, comfortable, staff were very friendly. Food was lovely. Overall great value for money
Review 2:In need of updating. Was very noisy at pub kick out time and then someone carried on a party in there room.
Review 3:Easy to get to. Good parking. Good price.
Review 4:Staff couldn't do more for you, polite and happy smiling faces. Central location for the purpose of my trip which was house hunting. Great facilities next door to eat and cheap!
Review 5:Large clean room with very comfortable bed. Very friendly and helpful staff who cheerfully checked us in after midnight and helped with booking taxis in the morning.
Review 6:Ideal for what we needed, next door to a pub which did meals. The price of the room was very good value. The staff were helpful courteous and friendly and we will definitely stay again
Review 7:The nights receptionist did not smile while greeting me. This made me feel a little bit tense engaging in a conversation with them. I also think the lift floor would do with a revamp.
Review 8:To be honest, I can not complain. I had a good sleep. I think the morning receptionist was excellent in her service to get me a taxi and made me feel relaxed as I was feeling anxious about how long it would take to arrive. Very friendly, warm and tender smile. Just what I needed to start a hectic day. Thank you, and please keep it up.
Review 9:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 10:It wasn't too far from where we needed to be, staff were helpful and cheap pub next door for drinks and food.
Review 11:No in house restaurant, they had a pub next door, but I would've liked to have had breakfast in the hotel
Review 12:The beds where comfy, and the ensuite had the option of both bath and shower
Review 13:The lights didn't work in the first room - and there was no water from the hot water sink tap. We got a room change - a triple with one towel - we asked for more. Mildew in the shower. Both rooms urgently need renovating.
Review 14:Breakfast was good next door in the pub.
Review 15:Unfortunately there was a strange, unpleasent smell in a bathroom. Also old windows with damp on frames.
Review 16:Very friendly and helpful staff. There was a pub White Horse just next to the hotel with delicious and cheap food. I really recommend it!
Review 17:I was see that is drink, tea drink and accessories on a table in bedroom there is not clean enough some just only spoon is dirty. When I inside building hotel I can feel nose trough to wall outside smoking. I'm dislike it. I'm unhappy.
Review 18:It's a hotel that attracts contractors very very noisey arguing fighting banning on doors from 1-3 then at 7 when they tried to get up for work.
Review 19:Very helpful reception staff after we had a few problems with the card for payment. He went out of his way to help me put
Review 20:In bathroom, the fan on the wall was very dirty - a shame because everything else was very clean! 2 hand towels for 2 people would be nice and decaf tea/coffee.
Review 21:Basic but clean room, comfortable beds, 2 pillows, bath and shower, coffee/tea. Staff very pleasant and friendly.
Review 22:The layout of the room was poor, one bed was pushed against the window. The television was too small and there was no restaurant, we had to use the pub next door.
Review 23:Price and location
Review 24:shower was pooly positioned over the bath, sideways on so in the shower curtain
Review 25:free parking, public house on the site serving excellent food at good prices. very easy to find and get to. bed was very comfortable and the shower fantastic
Review 26:Horrendous noise from the fan in the bathroom when the light was switched on really needs sorting but other than that all ok
Review 27:The room was basic but spotlessly clean & the beds were extremely comfortable, really good nights sleep. Really good value for money
Review 28:Bit dated and noisy being next to a busy main road..Even though it had double glazing
Review 29:Friendly hotel fine for the price great pub next door with lovely food and fair prices for drinks
Review 30:Noisy, banging doors late at night and early in morning also alarm went off about 0730,no explanation to why until we asked not a very good stay not like the first time
Review 31:Location
Review 32:The staff were fabby, very friendly, nothing was a bother. The accommodation was fairly basic but perfectly functional. Great pub next door with good affordable food.
Review 33:On previous visit, 1 week before, we reported electrical faults and a dripping tap in our room. When we returned 1 week later, these were not resolved. Kevin proceeded to assist us as best he could, considering the hotel was full booked. Net curtains and window frames were dirty and needed a good clean.
Review 34:Kevin was an excellent staff member, always willing to help and sorted a major problem for us very quickly.
Review 35:although the hotel was old and dated there is no excuse for lack of cleaning cobwebs in the room dirty appliances toilet disgusting dirty carpet
Review 36:the staff were friendly
Review 37:mold in bathroom the room didn't feel or smell clean stains on all nets curtains / kettle / walk sect,,,
Review 38:Staff were very friendly and very helpful
Review 39:The hotel was a bit noisy with doors banging until late at night - couldn't get to sleep. Bed was too hard for me but that's down to personal taste anyway and the room was a bit too warm, better than being too cold though!
Review 40:Rooms were very clean and smart and had nice bathrooms with great showers.
Review 41:Beds not very comfortable. Could all do with upgrading, especially the kettle.
Review 42:Stayed for one night for a wedding in nearby Sadberge so very convenient. Had everything we needed and could accommodate 10 of us at a great price.
Review 43:Woken at 6:20am by loud noises (recycling bins?) Needs a bit of TLC and attention to detail - no light switches for main lights in the bedroom - just small pull cords no where near the bed. Price should be a little less for what you get
Review 44:The bed was so comfortable. Staff friendly and helpful. Ample free car parking
Review 45:Not the best night's sleep. Personal hatred of waterproof mattress covers. Really hot to sleep on. There really must be better alternatives available!
Review 46:Basic but low cost so ticked the boxes in that respect.
Review 47:Little bit dated, bath could do with new silicone to spruce it up a bit as it was discoloured, but for the price it was excellent value for money.
Review 48:I enjoyed how easy it was, so easy to find, comfortable sized room, was able to take a dog, slept well, no noise, price was great, pub next door did an excellent breakfast at great price. Did the job for a budget hotel.
Review 49:Some room fittings, especially bathroom, a little "tired"..... Pity no breakfast option.
Review 50:Friendly staff. Price fair. Lift was a pleasant surprise.
Review 51:Rather tired with hair dryer missing, drawers that can't be opened/closed and bathroom in need of updating. However it was as clean as it could be and bed was ok but again this was rather old so we didn't look too closely.
Review 52:Good location. This hotel allows dogs and although we didn't have ours with us, plenty of others did. Cheap and very basic breakfast next door [ you need to order and pay for the jam as it is an extra] which is ok and tasty.
Review 53:could have done with firmer pillows but that is a personnel thing
Review 54:Locality to Motorway, Pet friendly great value and great food at a good price next door
Review 55:The top floor is very hot - and my window didn't open. Unfortunately (for me) the lodge was full - I have no doubt that I would have been relocated immediately otherwise (to the credit of the staff). I was given a fan, however, which did make a difference.
Review 56:Clean, comfortable and friendly. For the price this is a little gem. I will be staying there again.
Review 57:After a bad start for our hollidy by Hertz not letting us have our car, and getting another one our gps got us lost. The manager stayed open untill we arrived at midnight, what more can I say .
Review 58:Advertised a hairdryers and breakfast - had to ask for hairdryer (by theway pat testing was out of date) and it is misleading as breakfast isnot on the premises. The decor is dated. The toilet didn't flushproperly. I reported this n told by staff they weren't going to getsomeone in until Weds this was Monday. Bathroom was far from clean.
Review 59:Not a lot. It was near to where I was working
Review 60:The bedding was clean but the room itself was not found a crisp packet at the back of a table, the sink in bathroom large crack, in need of a bit of tlc.
Review 61:The location was ideal for what we were doing great sizzler next door. The staff were helpful
Review 62:Although no hot food is available on site great Pub grub and breakfast at adjoining White Hart Hotel. Although some of the bedroom furniture was showing its age Do Not Be Put Off by this. Standards and costs offer good value for money and if you do not have your own transport there are good transport links to the town and the surrounding area.
Review 63:WiFi was a bit hard to connect to - cloud server - gave up in the end. Ditto 'free' o2 wifi in pub - maybe it was my tablet :(
Review 64:Much better than I expected - was clean and tidy, though a bit dated . Staff was a very friendly chap. Everything you'd expect from a travelodge type place in a budget hotel. Pub next door did reasonable food in evening and breakfast - though was acceptably busy on saturday night.
Review 65:comfortable spacious room and bathroom gf right opposite our car in large car park very friendly helpful concierge .Great breakfast in pub next door.Decoration tired and bathroom could do with updating but overall fantastic value and will stay here again.
Review 66:Staff very friendly and helpful. Always someone available to help. Were expecting us and room allocated fitted the criteria we requested. Room was clean and quiet and well supplied with everything needed.
Review 67:If I were to be really nitpicky, the toilet was a very slow flusher, so had to push the handle several times to get it going!!! thats it.
Review 68:Would definitely stay here again, good value for money, very friendly helpful staff, they couldn't do enough for you, clean tidy and very spacious rooms, immaculately clean bedding/pillows, plenty of hot water, safe parking, cctv, and very close to the centre. What more can I say.
Review 69:The bed was very soft for my liking but that's just a personal preference. We encountered a couple of men who liked to stand by their vehicle at night drinking and blaring out their awful music to the early hours, I believe the staff of the hotel had words but definitely not soon enough to get a decent nights sleep. Theses may have been guests and I cannot blame the hotel.
Review 70:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was great for us visiting our family. The rooms were clean although the bathroom was on the small side the shower was great with plenty of hot water. Tea and coffee facilities were available and the tea surprisingly good. I had trouble with the Wifi but I'm not an expert when it comes to technology so could have been me. Breakfast and food is catered for in the attached pub which was average. A good base to travel, clean and cheerful.
Review 71:People smoking just outside the door so the reception area and hall smelt of smoke, stained carpets, grimey and dirty, in desperate need of an update, would have felt uncomfortable if I was travelling alone. Would not recommend to others.
Review 72:It served its purpose as a bed for the night after a long drive.
Review 73:The technical aspect of room maintenance (fittings, etc) appears to be subject to a tight budget.
Review 74:Ample parking, Lift, 24hr reception, Cleanliness, Large rooms, and it shares a wall with a really good pub (The White Horse - same owner) which has excellent value meals, including breakfast.
Review 75:The Harrowgate Hill Lodge was Excellent. Highly Recommended to anyone visiting Darlington. Very enjoyable stay. White Horse Pub right next door for food/drink/entertainment. Good Location. Bus stop to and from town close to the Lodge as well for easy travel.
Review 76:the smell on entering the building and extremily dusty and no food facilities as stated in the brochure we were told to go to the pub next door. in desperate need of updating bathroom was filthy
Review 77:the beds are very comfortable
Review 78:In some rooms, some of the lights don't work but not really a problem. Also have noticed some rooms have showers where water takes a long time to heat up.
Review 79:Am a regular here and it is good value for money. Wifi works well . Rooms spacious and beds comfortable. Nice to be able to open the window unlike in many other hotels! Staff very accommodating.
Review 80:but alas let down slightly by having porn blocked on the WiFi.
Review 81:For business in the town center this is a cool place. Pub right next door with ok pub food for fair price. Rooms are big, shower works, big bed is comfortable.
Review 82:Attentive staff; nothing too much trouble - very friendly. Bath / shower clean; loads of hot water and fresh towels.. Extra coffee / milk on request.
Review 83:The beds in our room weren't the most comfortable I've slept in however we were assured that new beds had been ordered and were likely to be installed in 2 or 3 weeks time.
Review 84:Very friendly & helpful staff - basic accommodation but adequate for purposes - value for money (reasonably priced rooms) - no food available but pub, literally adjoining, had a varied and very reasonably priced offering of good food.
Review 85:The derelict building at the entrance of the hotel is off putting with it's boarded up windows etc.also workmen were throwing debris into a skip in the early hours of the morning for a prolonged period.
Review 86:Plenty of car parking space and free Wifi is a bonus.
Review 87:we were attending a funeral nearby, so it was the perfect location. The room had everything you needed and was very comfortable, will defo stay here again.
Review 88:the downside would be no air conditioning, our stay in August with the warm weather made it a little un-comfortable, with the bedroom window open traffic noise in the front was noisy, my friend described it as sleeping on a roundabout.
Review 89:Good car park and with the night porter checking in the evening while having a smoke, excellent, and no problem getting a very good value breakfast next door, also the same for a evening meal menu .
Review 90:Loads of loud noise in the hallway going on threw the night for about half an hour. Nobody taking care of this. It's like the night guy wasn't even there
Review 91:Room wasn't that expensive that's about it really
Review 92:Could do with a splash of paint to brighten place up. No bar on premises but a very good pub literally next door.
Review 93:Staff were more than helpful and very pleasant. Bed very comfotable. Tea/Coffee facilities. Central to A1M/A19 if you're travelling North. Ample car parking facilities.
Review 94:The whole hotel was very hot but the window did not open. The room was dusted and the linen was clean but the windows were moldy. The staff in the pub were quite miserable in the evening.
Review 95:The staff were very friendly and helpful in the hotel. The food was good in the pub next door. The room was very cheap.
Review 96:Bathroom needs a upgrade. Toilet bowl damaged and overall finish poor. Smelt of dogs in corridor.
Review 97:Staff are fantastic. So friendly and helpful. Beds comfy.Shower powerful and hot.Breakfast next door in pub was so cheap and plenty of it. Staff were great.
Review 98:Just needs a bit of TLC and a deep clean. Need to sort out the fire alarms - went off 3 times whilst there (apparently the steam from the shower sets off the alarm? Sensor right outside the bathroom door?)
Review 99:It was good to have the pub/restaurant next door. It served reasonably priced, nicely cooked pub grub. The rooms were very generous in size.
Review 100:The loo was very poor to flush. Lorries and workers outside from quite early on were loud. The heating was very warm and uncomfy.
Review 101:Staff were lovely. Beds were amazingly comfy and clean. Pub next door sells cheap decent food. Sweets and drinks available to buy at reception. Safe carpark. Decent, affordable place . Its not the ritz, its not the pits either. I'd deffo stay again.
Review 102:Bed had a bit of water damage at the bottom of base should have been cleaned
Review 103:Convenient for our stay would stay again visiting family and friends great staff
Review 104:The room was hot and stuffy. We had to open the window as wide as possible to get some air in and then that let traffic noise in.
Review 105:The pet friendliness, the polite and helpful staff, that it was clean and comfortable and excellent value for money. They don't serve breakfast any more but the adjacent pub does and that was also great value.
Review 106:Staff outside smoking as you walked in entrance. Laundry bags left at top of stairs trip risk. Dogs batking all evening as owners left them unattended
Review 107:Large room comfy beds
Review 108:Decor is dated but clean
Review 109:Great location for Newton Aycliffe lesiure centre where my Daughter was competing in a Skating competition. The fact there is a microwave and toaster for guests to use was a life saver. We will be back next year x
Review 110:Our first night on the Sunday was on the main busy road side of the hotel, which kept us awake most of the night from the passing trucks, cars and performance engine cars. We had the window closed and this didn't help reduce the noise level, a new double glazed unit might help this room on this side of the hotel.
Review 111:Friendly, helpfully staff especially the night porter on Sunday and Monday night who gave us advise on the town of Darlington. The day time staff who changed our room from the noisy side to the quiet side of the hotel. The second night we had no problems sleeping.
Review 112:The location is good and the price excellent. Food is at the pub next door and was good value for money. What the hotel advertised was what they gave us - no frills but all you need from a hotel.
Review 113:On arrival the man on Reception who was meant to be greeting me told me that there had been a murder in my room the night before and said other tasteless jokes about the murder and referred to hooks on the ceilings. Obviously I knew he was trying to make a joke but I am an extremely nervous person and was left very upset and unsettled. Shocking welcome and I had no choice but to stay there as I needed to get to a wedding. I would not of stayed there otherwise. Also couldn't stay connected to the wifi
Review 114:I was going to a wedding at 2pm and a few days before my stay I called to ask if I could get into the room at 12 noon. As when I was booking it said arrival time was 2pm. They allowed me to have my room at 12 which I was very happy about and the beds were very comfortable.
Review 115:Nothing
Review 116:Close to A1(M) so handy for a long journey trip-break; excellent value breakfast/meals at WQhite Horse next door; ample parking; everything needed for an overnight relax; blue badge parking space reserved after simple e-mail request - 10 out of 120 for attention.
Review 117:The door did or lock properly. Someone entered our room at 1am and the beds were terrible.
Review 118:The pub next door did excellent food and the staff were great.
Review 119:Cracked toilet that didn't flush very well. As it was hot in the room, had to open window through the night so there was road noise that kept our daughter awake.Smoke alarm went off twice through the night. Couldn't get breakfast till after 8am as no gas to cook with.
Review 120:Comfortable beds with clean linen and clean towels.Shower good. Kettle and sachets to make a cuppa.Television.
Review 121:Weren't able to supply us with a hair-dryer.
Review 122:Customer service was simply excellent, greeted by a very friendly gentleman on arrival who swiftly checked us in. The hotel room was perfectly good for the money- what you would expect- clean and comfortable with the bonus of plenty of tea and coffee. Location is in an excellent spot for a serves-the-purpose stop-over on your way up to Scotland. A day after we had checked out of the hotel (and were many miles away), we realised that one of us had left our fancy new electric toothbrush behind. I immediately phoned the hotel who were able to confirm within a day that they had indeed found it and that they would send it out as soon as possible. To my great surprise, it came through to my home address the next day. Impressive customer service- thank you very much,
Review 123:The furniture and rooms were dated and the shower is over the bath but no big deal £35 for a sat bargain
Review 124:Price and location easy to find free parking friendly staff and next door to decient pub would definitely stop here again
Review 125:Everything was very dusty, shower and taps were poor and no hairdryer. Also thought there was breakfast and wifi included but no mention of either.
Review 126:Easy to find, location wise, and cheap for a one night stopover.
Review 127:Bathroom dated and could have done with a new shower curtain, but water was nice and warm.
Review 128:Very basic but room ok for what we needed, and what we had paid, guy on reception very helpful. Pub next door ideal for food and do breakfast from 7 for an early start.
Review 129:The only thing that could be improved is the bedding bring it up to date. :-)
Review 130:The staff were incredibly warming and friendly, it really made is smile as they asked us about our day and chatted with us. The breakfast was amazing and really cheap too! Overall I was pleasantly surprised.
Review 131:Nothing bad at all to report
Review 132:From the moment we arrived the staff very very friendly and helpful the room was roomy and the bed comfortable will definitely stay again. The breakfast was also very good value for money £2.50 for a full english breakfast
Review 133:Clean room and bathroom. Quiet. Great brekky in pub next door. Staff were very polite, informative and friendly. Will stay again as it is cheaply priced.
Review 134:The staff were very friendly and welcoming - they even offered to let us leave our car in the car park while we travelled up to Newcastle for the rugby. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable.
