Reviews for The Garrack Hotel & Restaurant

Review 1:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and helped direct us to the hotel over the phone because our Sat Nav wasn't working. The view from the room was fabulous and the breakfast was superb- would definitely recommend as a great place to stay in St Ives.

Review 2:The central heating was turned off on our last day and there was no hot water. We boiled a kettle to have a wash each. We seemed to be the only people around as we were alone at meals.

Review 3:The room was a good size, The view from the room, which was great.

Review 4:Everything was extremely good, incredible seaview from our room (which was spotlessly clean and so comfortable) and the breakfast was fantastic. Thank you.

Review 5:Bit of a walk from the village, but it's a nice walk [hills come with the territory!!]

Review 6:Restaurant was good Bar was good Pool bar a bit odd!! Room was adequate BAthroom good

Review 7:Breakfast......had a full English and honestly when I had the bacon if there hadn't been other people sat around I would of spat it out, I normally love bacon but this had a really awfull taste, very unusual for me to leave food on a plate, would also prefer condiments left on a table as opposed to being asked if we would like any waiting 5 minutes for it and breakfast going cold !

Review 8:The staff were absolutely lovely and certainly made to feel more than welcome.

Review 9:Minor things only, but the bottom of our wardrobe obviously hadn't been cleaned for a while, the entrance lane is VERY narrow, and lastly the Maitre'd takes some getting used to!

Review 10:Wonderful view from our room. Excellent breakfast, with lots of choice. Bed was very comfortable. Had one evening meal in the restaurant, and that was very good value and beautifully cooked, Swimming pool was great.

Review 11:Ok if you have car walk from town is up and down very steep hill. Our room needed ventation had very bad condensation . Water was running down the walls and windows after running a bath.

Review 12:Views from room are lovely. Breakfast was great with a large variety .

Review 13:Room in need of some repair. No radiator/ towel rail in bathroom so cold & no where to hang towels. Light in bedroom had 3 missing bulbs. Room located outside of main building & approach was dark & slippery.

Review 14:Restaurant really lovely & food great. Beautiful location.

Review 15:The only thing I wasn't aware of when I booked was it was a 'small' double and although very quaint the bathroom was quite impractical with no shower curtain which was ok for me but not so great for my 6ft husband. Would pay extra for a larger double next time definitely.

Review 16:Receptionist on arrival was extremely welcoming and friendly. I left a few things and they phoned me straight away to let me know.

Review 17:Because we had such a great view we also had a wee trek down to town!

Review 18:The view was absolutely spectacular from our room over the whole of St Ives. Lovely room and the hotel has a great wee pool.

Review 19:We had only one radiator working in the room during our stay(ie the towel rail in the bathroom). We did report this to reception but nothing appeared to be done. Then on the morning of our check out9Monday 12th) the radiators came on. Fortunately there was a small electric heater in the wardrobe which seemed to pacify my wife.

Review 20:Everyone was vey helpful.

Review 21:Don't stay in the rooms overlooking the pool house (rooms 20-25). You are paying for a view but the people having drinks and dinner at the pool house are looking back at you. Especially bad if you are getting out of the shower and your wife forgets to tell you that she opened up the shades while you were showering!

Review 22:Liked the view from the top of the hill and the great breakfast. It also is a great place to start a hike to Timmer's Arms in Zennor.

Review 23:Long hill up to hotel from st ives harbour, Pool not always available was asked to pay £2.50 for the use of', towel given to use was not clean and stored above the bar , Room in cottage was good but window open to all passing by could have done with blinds, hotel bar had no staff after evening meal and had to go looking for someone to serve us , not enough choice of drinks.

Review 24:room was warm & comfy

Review 25:pretty expensive (but so are all big hotels in St Ives at St Ives festival week) need to get cans back from town, very hilly

Review 26:Nice rooms, lovely food in cafe bar, very comfy bed and lovely view in quiet location ,

Review 27:Not all of the staff were frendly. Dinner was spoilt with rain water dripping on us and the dining room was very cold. Girl serving dinner was very good but looked over worked. The steak was over cooked. I was expecting the hotel to be of a higher standard.

Review 28:Some of the staff were frendly and very nice to deal with. The fish and mussels were good. The views from our room was good.

Review 29:Only stayed one night - wish it was longer. Excellent in all aspects. Very clean, lovely room and attentive and helpful staff. Fabulous restaurant where we had an evening meal. Breakfast exceptional too.

Review 30:Lovely location overlooking Porthmeor beach and sea. Clean, comfortable. Friendly staff. Good restaurant offering variety at breakfast and dinner. The only slight downside was our room across from pool and terrace-bar, which thankfully close at 10 pm.

Review 31:A little lack of privacy in cottage with no blinds at window and people walking by. Girls at breakfast a little brisk and allowed a family to loudly have on kids video on iPad at table for all to hear.

Review 32:Stunning view. Room size. Little cottage. Art work around. Early am swim.

Review 33:Long walk from car to the room with luggage and no offer of help. Room was not hovered during our stay.

Review 34:Very pet friendly. Vegetarian breakfast was lovely. Big room with a great view. Lovely staff especially Ludo. Bottled water in room was a nice touch.

Review 35:Wifi down in the cottage not great... Did however mention this to the receptionist and was told that it will be looked into and sorted

Review 36:Room specious, clean and tidy, stunning sea views over the bay and beach... Breakfast brilliant and a wide selection.. Wifi reliable in the hotel and poor and bar area A all round good stay will definitely come back

Review 37:The shower in our room wasn't very good and the bed wasn't the comfiest. We decided to eat at hotel one night, wasn't the best meal we'd ever had.

Review 38:We found our room very comfortable, lovely views. The breakfast was excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. The bar/food by the pool was really good. The hotel is beautiful inside and out and there is plenty of parking. Only 10-15 minute walk to Porthmeor beach, plenty to eat and drink when you get there, killer walk back, hill is like you're walking up a wall!!! Great workout though :) Some lovely places to eat in town and harbour area for adults & children, try to book, some places didn't have tables available until 9.30-9.45pm. Lovely at night, still really busily and lively at 10.30-11.00pm. St Ives is a beautiful seaside town, we will definitely be going back again.

Review 39:Room whilst pretty was quite dated. Bathroom needed an update and a more powerful shower.

Review 40:Great views and we enjoyed being further back from the town. Breakfast was also very good for a 3 star hotel with cooked made to order.

Review 41:This is particularly difficult to find. Definitely research the address and/or ring ahead for directions and plan to find it in daylight hours. Once there it is an absolute treasure of place and well worth finding. the highlight of our touring holiday.

Review 42:We were fortunate to have an absolutely beautiful ensuite room with a breathtaking panoramic view. It was also very well designed to be more than comfortable in every way for our delightful 2 night stay. The accommodation obviously comes first but everything else was absolutely fine in everyway. This was the highlight for our 3 1/2 weeks of stays around the British Isles and we would loved to have stayed longer. Great decore, ideal for walking to town and cliffs, beautiful breakfast, cheery helpful staff, dinner on site is possible - includes a lounge, bar, library, everything we could wish for at least.

Review 43:No hot water in the evening so had to have a cold shower. Tried calling reception a few times no answer. I couldn't be bothered to walk to reception as we were not in the main building. This was resolved the next day.

Review 44:Breakfast and supper were great. Staff were lovely and very friendly. Great that dogs were allowed to stay. Loved the room we had as it was in the little cottage in the garden so it easier to take dog out to do her business.

Review 45:We were in a small separate cottage. Nice and secluded, the staff were friendly and helpfull. If we return to St Ives I would certainly book this hotel.

Review 46:Housekeeping needs improvement. Stayed for 5 nights. No towels one day, no toilet paper the next etc. one day beds were not made etc...a lovely place to stay but sort out the slack housekeeping . Was all fixed when asked.

Review 47:Great for kids. Playground and indoor pool. View from our room was fabulous. I would stay here again. Restaurants on site all good

Review 48:Room 24 overlooks the pool bar which is used extensively by the adjoining camp site and played loud music until midnight. The breakfast was tasteless and covered in black spots of burned fat. Didn't bother the second morning.

Review 49:Friendly staff

Review 50:Everything was excellent

Review 51:Very friendly staff, excellent bedroom (with sea view). The pool and pool bar was really good. The hotel restaurant was also very good. I asked the owner if the chef could do a chicken dish for the following evening and he did. It was really tasty, and shows that the hotel is genuinely interested in guests enjoyment

Review 52:Wi-Fi signal very poor in room, sea view obscured by newly errected swimming pool building, some facilities (pool, cafe) shared by neighbouring holiday park which I didn't expect

Review 53:Friendly staff, room was very clean and quiet, good communal facilities and tasty breakfast

Review 54:The marquee right outside our bedroom window meant that we had to keep the blinds down for most of our stay as people could see right into our room.

Review 55:Great breakfast and very friendly staff.

Review 56:This is probably the nicest, most friendly hotel that I have ever stayed in. The food was excellent and the staff friendly and helpful. Comfortable, well appointed room.

Review 57:We had a fantastic view of the sea and the room was very bright and airy. The evening meal was very good and we really enjoyed the fabulous breakfast.

Review 58:Comfortable and all the staff were very kind and helpful could not have done more. The coffee shop was lovely and menu very good.rather disappointed with evening menu

Review 59:Wifi did not work, until I dicovered in the morning that I had to turn on data roaming when connecting. It was required for loading the page where you accept the terms. Or maybe this was only a coincident?

Review 60:Nice staff, breakfast above expectations.

Review 61:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was spotless with a view of the sea. Both the dinner and breakfast were of a high quality and pleasantly served. The swimming pool, although rather small, had a jacuzzi and was in an excellent cafe with a veranda overlooking the beach.

Review 62:The toilet had a weird smell. Everything else was very nice.

Review 63:When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised with a free upgrade. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The location is perfect and breakfast awesome.

Review 64:The only thing i can think of to help others is there is a steep hill to walk up and down into the town but this didn't bother us.

Review 65:Lovely hotel and staff we are going back again in august. Nice breakfast choice and cooked especially for you. Rooms were large and very clean. location was perfect for us just far away from the crowded town but easily reachable 10 minutes on foot.

Review 66:Everything...the hotel is great, with beautiful views over the coast line. Breakfast was exceptionally well presented each morning...reception staff very friendly and helpful. overall a great hotel to stay in.

Review 67:Winter Tog rated quilts being used in summer - too hot. Toilet flooring and door handle badly in need of replacing/repair. Footpath joining coastal path needs more maintaining

Review 68:Views from the bedroom window. Good sized breakfast.

Review 69:If anything it would be the walk back from the town centre as quite steep at the beginning but then levels out..good walk.

Review 70:The location,15 minutes walk from St Ives town centre was fine, lovely views and an enjoyable walk, very quiet and good parking.

Review 71:Our friends room was very small and not really suitable and they were being charged exactly the same as we were for a far nicer room. I must add however this was resolved after first night and from then on they were able to enjoy a very nice room.

Review 72:Excellent manner in which staff dealt with a problem. All facilities very clean and the restaurant provided excellent service and food in a room with fantastic views.

Review 73:Breakfast was best. We were in a bungalow not hotel we didn't expect that would have been awkward if it had rained. Would like to have been told or ask thought we were in hotel.

Review 74:Havnt got a complaint

Review 75:Liked the position, overall look and feel, very comfortable room, good choice at breakfast, extremely comfortable bed, nice staff

Review 76:Not much not to like. The broadband could have been faster and not have to keep resigning in. But that's being pernickety.

Review 77:Comfortable hotel with good food overlooking town, quiet.

Review 78:The pool area is shared with a camp site, so couldn't really relax as had stag dues and small children messing around.

Review 79:Good size room, breakfast and dinner was really nice.

Review 80:Could not get wi Fi to connect in our room (room 24)

Review 81:Good sized room with gorgeous views across St.Ives. Excellent food. Late checkout to enable us to use pool, sauna &jacuzzi in the morning.

Review 82:WiFi ropey in Room 23, away from main house. Felt exposed as very close to outside deck/pool entrance and people walking past. Would like to be warned and music still playing sat night until 11pm

Review 83:Clean, comfortable stay with friendly staff.

Review 84:The piped music in the dining area which was turned on loud when the staff arrived in the morning was an unpleasant alarm every morning! Completely unnecessary. Also, would have enjoyed a swim, but the pool bar area always busy & loud with social events and drinking. Not the quiet pool/sauna experience the web site would leave you to believe it was at all.

Review 85:The location wa good

Review 86:The bed was not the best has it was two singles with a mattress on top which was not very comfortable because of a very large lump in the middle

Review 87:Location of site and facilities

Review 88:We were returning after having visited in 1985. Our room sat on a back terrace that was having a roof added to it. The room was furnished with very old and unattractive furniture. We were 10 minutes late for breakfast so we were sent to the pool house cafe which was unappetizing with the smell of chlorine permeating the air. It did not live up to our memories.

Review 89:The staff were helpful. One man stayed up to expect us as we were very late getting in.

Review 90:Although the food was good, the Garrack breakfast was plentiful but bland in taste. The dinner menu was limited more choice required.

Review 91:Asked for a room with a sea view and got it a lovely panoramic window the view was great. Food was good. Staff very friendly. Especially Dean.

Review 92:Need to improve evening meal and selection available..too many fancy dishes which did not deliver on taste or freshness... Recently taken over by Ayr Holiday Park and got impression staff not that happy?

Review 93:Great views from bedroom and restaurant

Review 94:The bedroom walls were too thin, we could hear other guests easily through them, we had rm 24, i would ask not to be in any of that line of rooms if we went again. Very disappointed that we weren't told that there was work going on on the pool decking. This is a very public room with the curtains drawn back anyway but there were workman there most of the day. Also unable to have food on that patio. It would only have been courteous to have informed us.

Review 95:The food was excellent, the pool, the room itself, the staff, the public rooms in the hotel.

Review 96:A little pricey, but there again this is the best location and view of St. Ives,

Review 97:The rooms were very nice and had obviously been refurbished since some of the photos we saw.

Review 98:Bed mattress quite soft. Could hear TV from room above. Quite far to walk up the hill from town.

Review 99:The room was fantastic, food great, view from hotel magnificent

Review 100:Swimming pool was a bit disappointing, small and usually busy. Didn't feel inclined to go in. Felt the buildings and garden could do with some work.

Review 101:The location is great especially with a dog. Lovely walks on your doorstep.

Review 102:Didn't like the restaurant food. Complained about a dish being too spicy and was not offered an alternative. Food too spicy for children. Pool area was not very clean and was run down and the pool itself was too dirty. Unhappy that my room had dogs staying in it prior to my visit and room smelt heavily of cleaning products. Should have been informed at the time I booked by phone. Especially if a person had allergies or wasn't keen on pets in rooms.

Review 103:Location was nice and main building was nice.

Review 104:a bit expensive. Tough walk back up the hill after a day or evening in town.

Review 105:Staff were wonderful and did best to help us in every way!! Great pool/clubhouse area--perfect for indoor swimming and relaxing by the bar, especially on cold rainy days. Wonderful breakfast.

Review 106:It has a wonderful view over one of the bays, and is a 10 minute walk from the town, however it is near the top of the town so there is a very steep return journey which we weren't warned about. The pool was full of children when we tried to use it.

Review 107:Lovely building, lovely rooms, helpful staff.

Review 108:Ity was sometimes difficult to get a signal for my tablet

Review 109:We had an splendid apartment in the cottage - wonderful views, good facilities - two armchairs!

Review 110:Amazing place, beautiful view, staff was lovely. Great modern clean room & delicious Breakfest, this hotel should have at least 4 stars as it is definitly worth it. We had a great time & thank you

Review 111:Would prefer showers rather than Baths, its not easy for older people to use a high walled bath/shower.

Review 112:Views friendly staff and brilliant breakfast. Free wifi is essential today and that was very good.

Review 113:Not having a functional bar and draught beers/ lagers/ ciders in the hotel itself.

Review 114:Friendly staff, cleanliness, location and the welcome for dogs.

Review 115:No bad experience, but we are used to a king size (as opposed to double) bed.

Review 116:Excellent breakfast. Good location. On bus route. Lovely room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 117:hairdryer wired to wall nowhere near a mirror!

Review 118:spacious room, fantastic view, huge bed. brilliant breakfast, evening meal in restaurant was superb and very good value

Review 119:It would be nice if there was adult only times for the pool. Also would have been great to have wifi in the room.

Review 120:The gentleman serving at breakfast was fabulous!! Nice place to stay, enjoyed the walks, and comfy bed.

Review 121:It would have been nice to have more than one soap for the 2 of us. It would also have been nice to have some vegetables with the dinner.

Review 122:I loved the eggs benedict for breakfast and the fresh toast and the selection of jams. The staff were very welcoming and the room was big and had a wonderful view.

Review 123:A very large and original bath but unfortunately no shower. However, we could have had access to a small shower room adjacent had we known.

Review 124:Nice and warm large room (No. 4) with lovely antique furniture and an excellent 4 poster bed. Our room had stunning sea views from three windows. Superb breakfasts. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 125:The bed was really soft! Not a bad thing, just not our ideal

Review 126:Really friendly staff, beautiful surroundings - even in the wind and rain. A short walk to St Ives harbour. Great food

Review 127:The hotel was ideally located overlooking Porthmeor Bay and St Ives. The coastal path at the rear of the hotel perfect for walking down to the bays. Great exercise for those who enjoy walking but be aware that everything is located at the top or bottom of some very steep hills. The staff were very helpful, breakfast plentiful, the restaurant in the evening was ideal for those travelling on their own.

Review 128:Location, easy to walk into St. Ives. Staff very friendly and food in the dining room saturday evening(shared tapas) was just what we wanted. Superb breakfast too.

Review 129:Very quiet location at 10 min walk to the centre of town: we didn't touch the car for three days. The pool was a bonus (great jets in the bath tub too) and the food was very good: varied breakfast and great restaurant on the premises. Lots of seating spaces to read and to work on the lap top, a warm and cosy atmosphere.

Review 130:Location was perfect for visit to St Ives - although you have to be aware of steep hill back to Hotel. Room was satisfactory, but as was in the annexe overlooking the sea, the room had no character. Great breakfast.

Review 131:Waiter first night not welcoming & sarcastic at breakfast times . Pool needed cleaning slim around edges .b

Review 132:Location& views . Wife's birthday during stay nice touches on day.

Review 133:The whole visit was excellent, with very attentive staff. Special mention for Ludo who seemed to be on hand to serve at all times. The view from our room was excellent. Who needs the hanging gardens of Babalone!
