Reviews for The Glen Hotel
Review 1:The Glen Hotel was warm, comfortable, clean. The meals were very good in quality & portion size, also variety of menu. The rooms were well furnished and comfortable.
Review 2:A small discomfort was the double bed which tended to dip in the middle.
Review 3:Really good staff - it was a pleasure dealing with all of them. Lovely, cosy bar and breakfast restaurant Very good food. Notably great breakfast
Review 4:Staff were friendly and helpful. Looks like the rooms had just been renovated. Bathroom was was amazing. Nice pub with great food and selection of drinks
Review 5:A comfortable and friendly hotel. Food was good at all times with a good variety. Additionally, arriving extremely late due to weather conditions staff waited up for us.
Review 6:Noise. Doors and was very thin and could hear people like they were in the room. Also could hear noise from the bar
Review 7:Friendly staff, good location not far from Aviemore and the A9
Review 8:I would struggle to find anything negative. My room was above the front door so the only short term negative was hearing folk leave at various points. Not a big deal overall.
Review 9:A nice building, located conveniently for either staying in the area or travelling north or west easily. I had a lovely room with nice en suite bathroom. The breakfast was really good - an excellent selection of foods & freshly cooked hot dishes. It has a good reputation & this is deserved.
Review 10:A tiled bathroom was cold to the feet. Hot water seemed to go off early in the evening.
Review 11:A clean and tidy place with good food and comfortable bed. Good value for the money.
Review 12:Had to wait quite a long time to be served for breakfast but they were busy trying to do several things at once so didn't mind. I was just hungry!!
Review 13:Fantastic room - clean, modern, bathroom was spotless. Bar meal was delicious. Good selection of local ales
Review 14:Great location. Very friendly staff. Room (4) was clean & comfortable. Bathroom was clean, good powerful shower with plenty hot water. Great breakfast!!!
Review 15:Nothing!
Review 16:Everything: location, staff, room, bathroom, pillows, massive bed that I got lost in. The ales on tap were also superb, as was the veggie haggis, neeps and tatties. Definitely on the list to return to when we come back to take in more of the highlands. P.s. you should also take in the Highland Museum, but allow a good few hours for it.
Review 17:There is not much to do in the little village. Most shops were closed
Review 18:Everything was just brilliant - the staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were immaculate and modern. The food in the pub was excellent. As busy as they were in the pub on the Friday evening they managed to maintain a good standard of service and was just excellent
Review 19:Overall, there weren't that many dining options in Newtonmore, although the couple of places we did try were good. Parking situation wasn't great, as there appeared to be a single parking lot serving the guest rooms and the pub below the rooms, which got pretty busy at night.
Review 20:Rooms were clean and reasonably priced.
Review 21:Very nice hotel, especially considering the low price, and had a great meal, nice location in the town. Atmosphere is great, you just can not invent something like this.
Review 22:Staff were fantastic so friendly and welcoming - the hotel was beautiful, very traditional inside with its décor and was immaculate lots of character unlike modern hotels. Spotlessly clean
Review 23:Can't think of anything.
Review 24:We loved this hotel. Our room had a comfortable king sized bed and a huge nice modern bathroom with a tub and shower. It was quiet and relaxing with lots of storage and seating and even nice views out the window. The Pub and Restaurant downstairs were cozy and quite popular with the locals. Excellent breakfast! Oh, the staff were great and we loved the little village of Newtonmore. So picturesque and fun to explore.
Review 25:The room was quite spacious and bathroom had been totally renovated to modern, luxurious standards including heated towel rack. Bedroom still little dated but very nice amenities, hair dryer, tea/coffee, etc. Good location in town, nice friendly pub. Excellent breakfast in main dining room.
Review 26:Nice atmosphere in hotel and food very good and reasonably priced, also room well decorated and extremely clean, have been here before and would recommend to anyone.
Review 27:Beds a little too soft, but that's being picky.
Review 28:Exactly what you want from a good value town hotel. Polite and helpful staff, clean, warm and spacious room.
Review 29:Nice location. Very nice and very good accomodation. Great comfort. Nice place. Fantastic experience to have dinner in the pub with the natives. Just brilliant!
Review 30:Nice clean room. Breakfast was ok. Good value for a decent price. The location itself worth the visit. The area is beautiful and Newtonmore is a great location to discover this area.
Review 31:Tiny thing - the car park is a little dodgy on two wheels!
Review 32:Friendly staff, knowledgeable and helpful. Excellent facilities, pleasant decor, clean and comfortable. The food was excellent and wines well chosen. All round excellent.
Review 33:The bar/restaurant serves delicious beer + food. Don't miss the malt of the month. We stayed for one night and had nothing to complain about. Personal was very friendly. No problem to pay with credit card.
Review 34:The breakfast was confusing as the menu had prices attached despite having paid for a bed and breakfast upfront. Breakfast itself was poor - no milk available for cereal (just small milk jug on table for drinks), bacon rolls were sesame seed burger buns and the bacon had no flavour, the tea and coffee did not taste of much either.
Review 35:The staff, the bar and the evening meal were really excellent.
Review 36:We have 2 small kids, 8 and 4. We could only find the option for 2 adults plus 1 child on the booking.com page but assumed with 2 small kids it would not be a problem for the wee one to share the big bed with parents. However we were told that in fact they did not allow 2 children in one room but in our case they would make an exception. However they would charge us additionally for anything that was eaten by our 4 year old at breakfast. We felt this was counter-productive as it made us feel very uncomfortable and certainly not very welcome. I would urge the management to reconsider this policy as 2 child families are very common and instead of making people feel unwelcome why not have a more friendly way to deal with such situations.
Review 37:Great restaurant with good food, lots of beer varieties and clearly popular with locals as well as tourists
Review 38:We were travelling with our baby and had a pleasant stay. The room was lovely, quiet and clean, a cot was already built up for us and the food portions in the restaurant were large and tasty. We only stayed one night but enjoyed it and might come back again.
Review 39:The older couple who were staying at the same time and winging about everything...lol
Review 40:The owner guy was so helpful and fantastic and welcoming. Fabulous food at the restaurant. Room was nice clean and cosy.
Review 41:Really nothing to complain about.
Review 42:Comfortable beds in a smallish room, but with a spacious, well appointed bathroom. Clean and well kept. Great location with nearby hiking trails and an authentic Highland Museum in the village.
Review 43:Breakfast outstanding loads to eat Room good size Restaurant busy outstanding best lamb shank i ever had well done.
Review 44:Wifi poor but the same all over area
Review 45:The wifi bandwidth and, occasionally, the connection was limited, so not a great deal was possible. However, that might well have to do with limited provision in that village and - to be fair - if you're there far better things await than time spent online.
Review 46:The superb evening meal (not included in the price of the room but well worth it).
Review 47:There was nothing I didn't like.
Review 48:The location of the hotel is very convenient and the staff was pleasant. When we arrived we were asked if wanted to have dinner at the hotel, in case they needed to book us in. They were very busy, but the service was fast and the food was good.
Review 49:A very warm welcome, staff very pleasant, food good. Great selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate on hospitality tray, face cloths in bathroom and box of tissues on vanity table, it's the little touches that add up. Good sized bath towels.
Review 50:Our room looked on to the street and although there was not a great deal of traffic, we were surprised how ineffective the double pane windows were at preventing the noise.
Review 51:Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Enjoyed the opportunity to taste some local beer at the bar.
Review 52:Whilst our room had a private bathroom we had to leave the room to access it (just opposite our room, across the hallway). Wifi was a bit patchy even with the different access points (and good signal).
Review 53:Good location (if weather permits exploring the local area). Friendly staff. Very clean. Good restaurant - value for money and taste.
Review 54:All good except kitchen extractor next to our bedroom window not much of a problem
Review 55:Large room great bathroom big bed, selections of beers and gins, overall very comfortable. Staff helpful
Review 56:This was our 2nd stay at this hotel. The staff are very friendly, the hotel rooms are spotless and have very comfortable beds & the food tastes great. Really couldn't fault our stay..
Review 57:Been here before, we do like this one, they go out of their way to make things comfortable for guests. Nice rooms, good wifi in rooms, unusual that in the highlands. adecent pricing, good check in check out and breakfast times, good place recommend it
Review 58:Bit over zealous with the cleaning.... There didnt seem to be a do not disturb sign and the cleaners were at the door 9am sunday morning, and kept coming back even though we said we wanted a lie in... same on the monday morning they were hoovering away very early, not everyone wants to be up and away early so they might want to look at this. Maybe it was just because our room was early on their rota. That was the only thing I didnt like.
Review 59:We arrived early morning off the overnight sleeper train. The hotel served us breakfast allowed us to leave our luggage for the day. That evening we were late off the mountains. Much too late to order a meal. The bar staff willingly provided soup and sandwiches.
Review 60:Nothing.
Review 61:We've eaten here a few times before and the food has always been excellent. First time we've stayed, room was great, everything was clean and shower was fab after a day on hills.
Review 62:The beautiful refurbished en-suite bathroom had a musty smell as there was no bathroom fan and the door had been closed after cleaning. Great pity as the bathroom was lovely. Breakfast was plentiful but neither myself or my travelling companion enjoyed it. The scrambled egg looked grey!
Review 63:The room was extremely comfortable and clean.
Review 64:Nice room, Very large and nice en-suite bathroom, Breakfast was very good, Nice staff, Good location to explore Scotland's beautiful Cairngorms area
Review 65:Friendly welcome, good bar serving local ales, good food. Room had comfortable beds, lovely fluffy towels, decent bathroom. Overall very good value for money
Review 66:Only one distillery that closes at 5pm.
Review 67:Excellant after a day touring in the car to come back to the room and enjoy a nice meal in the bar downstairs. No need to go out and find a restaurant at night [there is no other].
Review 68:We were given a room facing the street with a king sized bed. The room is large and comfortable. The private bathroom is across the hall but we were provided with comfy bathrobes which was a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. We had to leave early and they went out of their way to provided us with an excellent bagged breakfast. It was much appreciated.
Review 69:Made very welcome. Two armchairs in room. Excellent shower. Comfy bed. Altogether a very enjoyable two night stay in a charming small town with easy access to the Cairngorms. Would stay there again.
Review 70:Room overlooking the main road made for a restless night as. Not much to do in Newtonmore. Travelled 20 mins up to Aviemore.
Review 71:"The Great outdoors walking challenge" was on when we stayed and the Glen was one of the stops..It was full yet still room for everyone. The hosts made everyone welcome. Great choice of hot meals available. Choice of local ales - Cairngorm was a particular good option. Good price, ring hotel for a better rate. Ample parking. Would stay again.
Review 72:nothing
Review 73:fantastic localisation, very comfy, sunny and clean room with huge bed :) stuff was very friendly and helpful; downstairs great bar with a restaurant; there wasn't any problem with booking a table for evening
Review 74:Nothing, room seemed a bit cold but it was unusually cold for the time of year!
Review 75:A well organized hotel with helpful staff. Very good bar food and a nice atmosphere.
Review 76:A group of revellers returned to the hotel after a night out and proceeded to talk loudly in the corridor at half past one in the morning. It wasn't for long and this was no fault of the hotel.
Review 77:The room was clean and tidy, a bit on the small side but for a one night stay it made no difference. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was very modern and clean.
Review 78:We enjoyed a very comfortable 2 night stay, with friendly efficient staff and excellent food and service in the restaurant. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed very comfortable, and a good shower. We would stay at this hotel again.
Review 79:waiter not very cheery, only took dessert order for 1 of our party which I felt was quite rude
Review 80:Very comfortable rooms, good location, excellent breakfast, barman extremely helpful on check-in.
Review 81:We did not have any bad things happen while we where stopping at the glen
Review 82:The room was excellent, we eat dinner in the hotel food of a high standard and good value, staff friendly and helpful. The location and the views where outstanding wished we could of stopped longer.
Review 83:I can't really think of anything negative other than the room was warm all night and we had to open the window. Not that this bothered us at all.
Review 84:The food was fantastic, we weren't expecting much for the price we paid for the room and food but we were pleasantly surprised. The room was very big and we had a huge comfy bed. Our private toilet /shower room was across the corridor. Perfectly clean and comfortable. We ate dinner in the bar and had a large list of meals to choose from as well as the specials board. I had a special belie pork with vegetables and my partner had sausage and mustard mash with gravy and vegetables. The meals were beautifully tasteful and portions were just right. The desserts were just as tasty. the staff were very helpful and did a great job at making our short stay a lovely experience. The breakfast wasn't large but just enough and cooked very well with a choice of haggis or black pudding. It's not the hilton but for the price it's one of the best small hotels we've stayed in. We've paid a lot more for a lot less.
Review 85:The room was very noisy and walls very thin allowing next door occupants to be heard distinctly when talking and particularly when showering and bathing
Review 86:Everyone was so friendly, the place was spotless clean, food was fantastic, service sublime and my Husband was astounded at the vast array of beers!
Review 87:The pillows and the mattres were too soft to my liking but my partner did not complain. Wifi was accessible throughout the building but it was quite slow.
Review 88:The staff were very friendly and the pub food was good and well cooked. The room was spacious and I liked having a bathroom in front of the room but separated.
Review 89:The car park was full when I got there but there was plenty of free on-street parking and actually after guests had finished their dinners and left, I was able to park in the car park.
Review 90:The staff were very friendly and welcoming and they had a good selection of real ales, both in the bottle and on tap. There was a good choice on the menu and the food was good also.
Review 91:Great time had at the glen hotel so no complaints
Review 92:Very friendly staff ... Ate in the hotel restraunt food excellent and good value ... Breakfast very nice with good choices of cereals ,fruit juices ,yogurts and fried breakfast was great
Review 93:Excellent accomodation and value for money. Had a problem with one of the main meals and it was sorted without fuss. Staff all friendly and room was comfortable and clean. Great car park and free wifi with strong signal. All good. Will re-visit
Review 94:Not much happening in Newtonmore but this pub seems to be the entire of it all.
Review 95:Absolutely spotless. Really friendly staff. Food - good selection well cooked. A great selection of beers.
Review 96:room one . there was a constant humming from fans as I think it was above the kitchen had to use earplugs to fall asleep other than that stay was fine I would return there again
Review 97:liked the quietness of the location and its surroundings. really good staff . the food was splendid too.
Review 98:Nothing major just thought it would have been better if private bathroom was attached or in room instead of accross the corridor apart from that stay was brilliant
Review 99:Food was great
Review 100:Everything about the hotel and staff was great. Don't normally review but excellent service and stay. Thoroughly enjoyed. Food was also really good

Review 103:Friendly warm welcome, very comfortable ensuite room and good food. We had to leave very early next morning and so would miss breakfast but the proprietor arranged for us to pick up packed lunches which were very good and plentiful. Would stay again.
Review 104:Great location for all needs on destination and persuits . Very family friendly with excellent communication from staff . Excellent food a variety of drink in bar . Highly recommend a stay at this hotel . Look forward to staying again .
Review 105:Creaky floorboards on landing outside room 1 woke me up really early- back of 6am. Obviously someone had to leave at that time. A joiner could fix this relatively easily.
Review 106:Staff friendliness and efficiency
Review 107:Wifi was a bit hit or miss. Would have preferred it if the hotel had a lounge with comfortable chairs.
Review 108:Room was excellent with a super king size double bed. Good breakfast and good food in bar at reasonable prices. Hotel spotless, would definitely stay again in future
Review 109:Taxis half an hour away, so need to factor that in. Limited staff meant checking in and out, and seeking assistance took longer than I had expected.
Review 110:Loved the room; tidy, clean, and had everything I needed.
Review 111:Nothing at all ......maybe a log fire would have been nice on a winters evening...
Review 112:It was so warm and cosy and the staff were friendly and helpful. Really roomy bedroom which was lovely and clean .The bar food was good with a great choice. The breakfast was just what was needed on a winters day! Great value for money.
Review 113:a view of air con units etc from our bedroom window.
Review 114:Clean, newly decorated throughout rooms and public spaces. Excellent value for money at winter rates.
Review 115:The single room is tiny, but I was warned in advance and offered an upgrade. Breakfast is £14 so make sure it's included. Overboiled porridge.
Review 116:Friendly welcome for a late arrival. General helpfulness. Centre village location.
Review 117:Nothing to dislike from me
Review 118:A very well presented and ideally located Hotel. It has the charm and tranquility expected from such a beautiful area, excellent food and a great selection of local brews. Every thing about the hotel from evening meals to the breakfast is faultless. Food is plentiful, tasty and hot, and comes from a great choice. The hotel has a large car park and we will definitely return.
Review 119:Radiator not working in room. Quite cold room on entering, good job it was a thick duvet. Road 9, by main road, was quite loud due to vent in wall even with windows closed.
Review 120:Nice wee place. Good food served very quickly despite it being busy, all credit to kitchen staff.
Review 121:Only things missing which would be nice is a comfy lounge/sitting area to relax in
Review 122:Lovely quiet room with a huge comfy bed, spotlessly clean shower room. Busy bar/restaurant with very friendly helpful staff, excellent choice of well cooked meals. Good location for local visitor attractions.
Review 123:Nothing to fault at all
Review 124:Although quite plain from outside, this hotel puts all it's efforts into the service for it's customers. Friendly welcome, lovely staff, excellent home made food with fresh veg. Lovely atmosphere in the bar where we decided to eat our evening mea, even though there was a smart restaurant on site, and enjoyed the pub quiz. We were made welcome by the locals. Our room was very nice, being clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. One of the best night's sleep we had on our trip. Breakfast was just as good with a nice choice of local food. A great stay. This place should be the model for all small hotels.
