Reviews for St George Hotel
Review 1:The staff were lovely. Friendly, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel itself is a little tired and would benefit from some redecoration. However, the price is very good and for an overnight stay it's spot on.
Review 2:If anything the evening menu left a little to be desired.
Review 3:The warm friendly management and staff, good location for the tees area, good value for money . The breakfast was very good
Review 4:The Hotel although clean does seem a little dated in some areas, the bathroom in the double room could do with a make-over as could the communal ladies toilets.
Review 5:We stayed for three nights between Christmas and New Year to use as a base to visit family and friends. We know the area so the Hotel, although sign-posted, was easy to find. Check in was efficient and friendly. Most of the staff we spoke to were friendly and polite. Both rooms were a decent size (we had a single and a double). Breakfast was the only meal we had at the Hotel, two days it was made on request due to there being not many guests and the other day was buffet style, decent choice and good quality on all three occasions. The Hotel's free unlimited wi-fi (via a code) was easy to connect to and fast enough to stream Netflix.
Review 6:Nothing. Everything was fine.
Review 7:I like the fact that a single room is available. No surplus charge! Also the use of a bath! Its not everybody who wants to shower everyday. Its nice to have a relaxing bath after a day at work.
Review 8:When I arrived it took about 15 minutes for the receptionist to get to her desk. Not very welcoming staffor in the morning. Could do with some customer relationship training
Review 9:Excellent customer service. Had a problem with my room. Was no hesitation about moving us to another room. Fantastic staff thank you so much once again.
Review 10:Make sure you get a price or the private hire company recommended by the hotel actually turn on their clocks as if not you are in for a nasty surprise when you reach your destination.
Review 11:Friendly & helpful staff. Made me feel welcome from first entering the hotel to the moment I left. I wouldn't hesitate in stayi at the St George again and would recommend highly.
Review 12:If being hyper critical furniture a little dated but perfectly adequate.
Review 13:Friendly and informative receptionist. Location. Value for money. Free WiFi. Cleanliness. Ample free parking.
Review 14:The hotel and rooms were very out-dated. The bar and restaurant area had a very unpleasant smell and the food wasn't good. My room was extremely cold!
Review 15:price - good value for money
Review 16:The staff were friendly and accommodating and couldn't do enough for you. They all went that little bit more to make sure my needs were catered for.
Review 17:Found overcharged to the credit card at the time of check out. A managerdid not explain and even apology but just said "OK". Verydisappointed.
Review 18:None
Review 19:Comfortable,well positioned for a restful sleep even though the hotel is next to the airport. Very pleasant friendly and helpful staff. We have stayed here's before, and we will do so again.
Review 20:The first room we were given had a wasp nest outside the window which was open and could not be fully closed. However, on returning to reception we were given an alternative room which was fine.
Review 21:Friendly staff and room was clean. Towels and bed linen were of a good standard.
Review 22:Unfortunately that night there was a power outage which meant dim lights, no power in the shower and the fire alarm going off at 5am! No apology or discount for the room offered. No free wifi either unless you are a light user - you have to pay after 30 mins.
Review 23:Stayed with my son for a university visit. Arrived late but staff helpfully still got us a pizza. There was a power outage (see below) which didn't help but the staff still managed to get a brilliant breakfast sorted in the morning. I forgot my phone charger and they kindly found it and sent it on to me.
Review 24:No shower attachment or any sort of use of bathroom toilet. No "shower" curtain in bathroom. Not far to the top floor but with a huge suitcase not the best as no lift. Good exercise though!
Review 25:Staff at reception super..
Review 26:Did not like the food much. There was a limited selection of bar food. The meal I had did not appear to be freshly cooked. Disappointed by the size and quality of the meal
Review 27:The hotel is clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Close to the airport but no noise.
Review 28:The general decoration and bathrooms are quite tired and could do with at least a makeover or, better, a refurbishment or general modernisation.
Review 29:Very well priced, functional hotel if you need to stay in the area. A good alternative to Travelodge. Twin rooms available. Peaceful, semi-rural location. Adjacent to airport, but there were very few aircraft taking off or landing, and none during hours of darkness. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable beds.
Review 30:rooms need refurbishment, paint peeling in bathroom.woken up by fire alarm at 05.10am. electric problems light and power kept going off and on.
Review 31:location was fine .like the history associated with r a f gives it character.bed was comfortable .room was quite roomy.
Review 32:I have used this hotel on several occasions while attending my offshore survival course at Falke-Nutec, Billingham. The staff have always being friendly and most helpful. It is also nice to know that the building of a former air force base has been put to such good and sensible use retaining the history associated with it.
Review 33:There was hair in the bath, no staff to serve at the bar (had to get someone from reception). The price of food was reasonable but the quality was poor. The décor was dull and out-dated and the double bed was too small (more like a three-quarter). Also we were never given a time to check out, so we had to guess.
Review 34:Staff were really friendly and welcoming, nice chandelier in the entrance, nice big bar and wide-range of choice on the menu.
Review 35:No hot water on arrival, and not water pressure. Changed rooms no towels. Asked for invoice on day of payment was told it would be a waiting on checkout this was not given to us when we handed back keys and left so no invoice to recover costs. Had to wait 5 min before help with obtaining towel when we went to get them. Coffee supplied in room was very minimal
Review 36:We travel a lot doing trade festivals, when we artived
Review 37:The rooms really need a makeover And the bathrooms have no shower and are very dated
Review 38:The staff were brilliant The bed was comfy The breakfast was good
Review 39:We had to call up for a few supplies and room service wasn't great. Wasn't enough towels and no shampoo
Review 40:The way it was styled snd it was a referbished raf base.
Review 41:Room was VERY basic and not that clean. I paid £35 for one night which is obviously relatively cheap but in despite travelling alone, i expected a double bed, or at least 3/4 size. The single bed I had was pushed up against the wall and too small. Especially bearing in mind today's general standards. If you are using the airport, it's situated in a great location, but I wasn't therefore had to get a taxi ride into Darlington/Yarm to see some life. The hotel is very much out in the middle of nowhere.
Review 42:Staff were very polite and helpful and the meal I had in the bar was absolutely fine.
Review 43:My wife & I had to return to the Stockton area for 2 days and were looking for a nice hotel. We ended up staying at the St George Hotel after we read the many very good reviews and it is also pet friendly, accommodating our 2 year old dog who was very well ‘fussed’ by the reception staff when we arrived. We got a double en-suite room in the West Wing, very good sized room and bathroom. Everything in the room was solid and well fitted and the bed was extremely comfortable. The reception staff were excellent as were the cleaning staff. The room was amongst the cleanest we have ever stayed in to be honest. There was plenty of parking space which is always good and our dog enjoyed a good run around the hotel on the open grassed areas bordered by fences to the airport, while he chased the rabbits (which he obviously never had a chance of catching). Breakfast offered a good choice and decent quality. The room price was also very good and we would definitely stay again. As we are writing this review, we feel that we must mention once again the genuine friendliness of all the staff we encountered, as for us this was one of the most important features when we use hotels, something we find is a rarity in a lot of hotels. Kind regards, Nick, Wendy & Tesla the dog
Review 44:No lift. Nothing around the hotel area. Service staff came in to reset the Cct. breaker step on the room chair with shoe on. Several lighting, Ceiling spot light, table lamp spoilt.
Review 45:Near the airport.
Review 46:The room was basic but was clean and tidy. The decor looked tired and dated and in need of a refresh ,although I did notice that some rooms were being done already
Review 47:Good location. friendly staff.nice breakfast .Overall good value for money.
Review 48:Having to wait for over 20 mins to get served at the bar, even during the evening the service was very poor, the bar meals were very expensive for poor quality food. The bar area is very tired looking, and does not do justice to its so called colonial feel.
Review 49:Bedroom was very clean, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel was good value for money, with a fair breakfast included.
Review 50:The bathroom had hairs in the bath and could have done with a good bleach.. and the beds pushed together resulted in a poor sleep both nights
Review 51:The view and area was lovely the staff couldn't be nicer. breakfast was lovely too..
Review 52:Noise from the airport Room way too hot at night (in winter!) Can't turn off heated towel rail Hardly any water pressure in shower Dirty carpets Sloppy breakfast food, not hot Poor wi-fi connection
Review 53:Easy location
Review 54:A little bit dated, but really nothing bad to say.
Review 55:Clean and tidy place, very quiet considering on airport, very friendly staff, good bar, good pub for food and drink in walking distance. Only £40 for a twin room!
Review 56:The rooms are old and need to be updated. The heating played a merry tune throughout the night.
Review 57:Considering it was an Officers Mess during the War it was an historic building turned into a hotel. You must view the statue outside and read the description.
Review 58:Restaurant for breakfast too hot and stuffy, staff did open windows when mentioned.
Review 59:Great price room and breakfast, well cared for hotel, room - excellent quality fittings
Review 60:Very uncomfortable bed (could really feel the springs) Hardly tepid shower and insufficient flow. dirty sealings of the bathtube.
Review 61:Bery helpful and friendly staff (reception, bar and breakfast)
Review 62:Furniture & bathroom / shower facilities are shabby & outdated. There is an "AA 3 star hotel" sign on the building as you enter - but this is definitely NOT a 3 star hotel. I suspect this award has been out of date for many years! Restaurant not open during our two night stay. (only open for breakfast) Had first evening meal in the rather shabby & uninviting bar area. Did not eat in there the second night. Glad we didn't have a dinner, bed & breakfast deal.
Review 63:Good room Size, parking, location, Wi fi. But NOT worth £86 per night.
Review 64:You get what you pay for, this is cheap. It needs a make over, but with little airport use it must be hard to make any profit. Shame as it would have potential if the airport was busy.
Review 65:The food offering was very limited - bar food only. No salads, mainly burger and chip type meals. I did not have breakfast so cannot comment on this.
Review 66:My room (1) was really nice and spacious and light. Very comfy bed and all lovely and clean. Decor is a bit old fashioned. Hotel has lovely character and history and although it is right by the airport, it is very quiet. I would stay here again.
Review 67:Although happy with over all stay for one night, we arrived at 2.45pm and was given a key to a room that was dirty and had not been made up from the last guest. Complained to the reception and was told we had to wait half an hour before we could have a room this is the last thing you need to hear when you have been traveling for nearly 5 hours. We was given a new room after 10 minutes waiting.
Review 68:Although happy with over all stay for one night, room was clean and quiet.
Review 69:Bathroom and toilet need a good clean and refurbishment to include a shower. On checking in and at breakfast very little communication from staff infact almost unfriendly.
Review 70:Basic rooms, but at £40... Shower was all but ineffective. My party (6 rooms) all reported the same.
Review 71:Good value for money. Friendly staff at reception at our late check-in, and the bar was opened at 11.20pm without hesitation.
Review 72:Couldn't get wifi in our room. Couldn't turn off the towel rail with made the room a little too warm
Review 73:Much quieter than expected, and the hotel has lots of character
Review 74:very noisy when other people returned from there night out. lack of towels .only one small and one bath towel between 2 people lack of signs pointing to location of hotel
Review 75:Poor breakfast experience. Tables not cleared. Did not like getting tea from dispenser, preferred a pot. No fruit salad option. Staff appeared uninterested when I complained. No soap in dispensers on arrival Scratch marks on walls. Needs painting.
Review 76:Good sized rooms Quiet despite being near airport Reasonable value for money.
Review 77:I didnt like the fact that the gardener started cutting the grass at 8:15 in the morning, we had done a late night at work and were just chilling in the morning to be woken by a loud sit on lawn mower. The breakfast was awful, a good vet would have been able to bring the bacon back to life, we could have played rounders with the sausages they were so over done. the scrambled eggs were swimming in water and the hash browns were like cardboard. Staff at reception refunded my £17 i paid for breakfasts and we went to toby carvery.
Review 78:The Bedroom and ensuite were good, good size television
Review 79:The bathroom needed a refurbishment, and the water from the bath tap was un-clean. I had to run the bath a second time. I thought the bar could be open later than 21:30.
Review 80:I liked the staff. They were very welcoming. Nice big TV. Comfortable bed.
Review 81:Sauna temperature of room, due to towel rail on FULL. Staff stated they were unable to turn them off? Low shower pressure, toilet cistern slow to refill. (all reported on checkout)
Review 82:Friendly,attentive staff, ambience. History of this former RAF base. The most comfortable bed for many a hotel stay. Uncannily quiet for an airport hotel!
Review 83:The steak was nice but the soggy chips were horrid .
Review 84:I liked reading about the history of the ww2 and the pictures on the walls, very interesting . Nice breakfast ,and polite staff.
Review 85:Only one bath towel
Review 86:The beds were very comfy
Review 87:It was convenient for us as we were visiting our granddaughter and her partner in Bishopton.
Review 88:Very Good value for money.
Review 89:Other guests were very noisy and kept us up most of the night
Review 90:The price and the fact they allowed dogs
