Reviews for The Royal Hotel
Review 1:Wasn't even allowed entrance into the hotel! In fact it's not even an hotel just a grubby pub! Drunken men outside that wouldn't let us past. For them to then spit on the floor in front of us! The "hotel" I have reported to booking.com for false advertisement.
Review 2:Although they advise that there may be free parking on the promenade it's only after 6pm and before 8am so you need to park in the pay carpark across the road.
Review 3:Staff were friendly and helpful, excellent value for money and good location. The bathroom had been newly renovated which was an added bonus.
Review 4:Some noise from downstairs bar late at night. Bit of a struggle getting case up the stairs to third floor as there is no lift (although member of staff did offer to help). Walls in room very thin so you can clearly hear what is being said / going on in adjoining room. No breakfast option.
Review 5:staff were friendly and helpful good sized room location on the seafront excellent downstairs bar close to shopping and other bars
Review 6:Charged £60 instead of £40 as agreed on the web site due to having a six yr old in the room with us ... despite letting them know in advance and the room being agreed for occupancy of three. Manager immovable and no refund of difference or apology despite their failure to manage the website or notify us Charlie was not included in advance. Room was also freezing ... No heating in November??
Review 7:The view
Review 8:If you're staying on the top floor don't expect to use the in house wifi. Signal was poor at best. They use a booster and even with this on it was still very hit and miss. We had what I'm told was their best room. All I can say is that it was average at best and nothing special. B & B standard is how I would rate it. It was our wedding anniversary on the day of check in and I had called the week before to arrange for flowers and champagne to be left in the room for when we arrived. Suffice to say when we arrived this had been forgotten about. The owner of the hotel tried his best to rectify this with flowers and sparkling wine left in the room on our last day however as you will appreciate the moment had past. All in all we were happy with the service and the hotel. However if you want that little bit better than average I'd look to stay elsewhere. I'd stay here again only if I had to, I'll be looking at other options for our next trip.
Review 9:Staff were always happy to help and bent over backwards to sort any requests. Excellent bar and restaurant facilities.
Review 10:Booked annex through booking.com for £45 for one night. When we arrived we were told our room was in the pub(The Royal) and that the annex is now run by The Crown and charge £75 per night. Staff at The Royal were fabulous and took us to The Crown where they organised our room in the annex for the original quoted price. It appears that Booking.com have not updated these changes for the annex.
Review 11:Fabulous room in the annex -so quiet and lovely sea views.
Review 12:Didn't realise there would be a private function on and room was directly above bar so noisy until about midnight but after that slept well as bed comfy and room climate was spot on
Review 13:Location was lovely and facilities excellent value for money with large bedroom and en suite. Really nice staff and would go again but would want room further away from bar
Review 14:Nothing
Review 15:I stayed here with my maids the night before my wedding and then again for 2 nights after. The staff were amazing and helped wherever they could. The free breakfast and champagne was a beautiful touch thank you
Review 16:view from our room looking onto fire escape. no double glazing hence very noisy.
Review 17:location was good, they do not do breakfasts but plenty of choices close by.
Review 18:Everything the fact that we couldn't sleep due to the really bad live band on till after twelve at night also the vile lanquage from the owner in the morning as he was complaining about people running tabs up his language was awful.
Review 19:Couldn't access wifi from top floor. Room only, no breakfast available but there are nearby cafes which we didn't try.
Review 20:View from room, friendly staff and locals. Comfortable and clean, though decor a bit dated. Excellent shower.
Review 21:Not the hotels fault but people will just let doors bang shut at any time
Review 22:The Royal pub itself was good! Accommodation was ok even at just £45. I didn't expect the Ritz. It was clean and the shower was spot on. Windows given location were a bit off putting thanks to the seagulls droppings
Review 23:Only One Thing To Say - Our Stay Was To Short And Would Have Loved To Stay Longer
Review 24:Everything The Hotel Had To Offer - Great Friendly Staff - First Time We Have Been To Morecambe & Loved Our Stay
Review 25:Used this hotel a few times as we run diving courses st Capernwray and rather than keep driving back and forth to Manchester stay here. Rooms are basic but clean and has everthing you need has a lovely restuarant with excellent food and entertainment on t weekends so i dont need to leave the hotel if i dont want itshot everythin
Review 26:Top floor 3 fights of stairs, no lifts. Not a major problem, just might not suit some people. "some" noise from the pub on a Sat night but nothing that disturbed us too much. Our room didn't have double glazing and backed onto one of the main streets. Loud drunks at 3 am and then street cleaners at 6.30 woke us a few nights. *#i
Review 27:Visited many hotels being in a band and this one had the comfiest bed and pillows. Good hot shower & a very clean room. Nice food served in their restaurant and reasonably priced. Nice staff.
Review 28:Decor looks tired and grubby, poor wifi signal, bed was against the wall on one side so had to climb over each other to get out
Review 29:Staff very friendly, comfortable bed, LOVE the large shower
Review 30:The only down side is that my parents could stay not suitable accommodation for disabled person but the pub itself is .
Review 31:Made very welcome lovely room , excellent food , and a fantastic pub atmosphere enjoyed our stay would definitely recommend the royal hotel
Review 32:Would have liked more tea and coffe but that's just a personal preference and there was no breakfast facilities but there are plenty of place to go in the area anyway
Review 33:Location is fab for what we wanted , clean , tidy and even though a busy public house downstairs it was pretty quiet
Review 34:the room. the bed was uncomfortable with an old mattress that dipped in the middle. There was a fire outside the window which was full of pigeons and bird muck.
Review 35:the location
Review 36:the view from room 7 was brilliant over the whole of the bay. central location . staff and management were very helpful, we ate in the restaurant saturday. excellent food and service. lively pub with live music although didnt notice any undue noise. all in all would recommend for a great venue
Review 37:Only down side was that bathroom had frosted window that looked out onto the stair well..... At night time when light was on it was possible to see into bathroom... A blind at the window would have solved this problem.
Review 38:We were there for New Years Eve. Top floor double room with sea view. A little old fashioned but comfortable. Excellent value will certainly stay there again.
Review 39:Once in as front door was locked..booking in was fine but 3 Flight of stairs to climb!!! emergency exit door was in our room with a small window..both door window an side window was frosted so couldn't see out..damp on this wall so wallpaper was hanging off parking was awful as so had to park the opposite end of where we was staying
Review 40:The bar is beautiful with an amazing listed wall of 1900 tiles Easy to find staff let us book in 90 minutes earlier which was lovely considering it was so cold
Review 41:Sheets weren't changed we stayed for 4 nights. Room was cold, had to walk through busy bar with suitcases there was no alternative hotel door or reception.
Review 42:Lovely view, large room and central to everywhere in morecambe
Review 43:Check in was in a different hotel which was in full party mode, then someone called another hotel and then we went there to then be shown to another place! Very odd setup
Review 44:Location, manager (Andy)
Review 45:I travel in business a lot so I got used to higher standard and comfort. Live music in the bar downstairs was rubbish.
Review 46:It was a big room, lovely view, all in the 70s decor.
Review 47:The staff very helpful , great place , we stayed in the annex , just away from the main building , it was excellent value . lots of space . will be going back in the summer .
Review 48:We were in the annexe which was a nice attic room which was separate from the main hotel. Suited us though as we were coming back very late so was good we could come an go as we pleased. Very good location on the front, we even had a view of the sea. The shower and bathroom was lovely and the attic room was very comfortable. Would stay again.
Review 49:Walls paper thin. all you hear is drunk arguing couples staggering in at 4-5am. doors constantly bang shut. Avoid if you are with your family.
Review 50:Room was spacious and clean
Review 51:Booking. Com said it was 19 miles from Blackpool but it was about 50.They work it out as the crow flies but I don't go on holiday on a crow
Review 52:We stayed in the annex which was away from the main hotel, this suited us because we have 2 children and it was quiet there was 3 double bedrooms a big living room and we had a wonderful sea view, the room was value for money and have no complaints
Review 53:Room could do with a make-over - but it's totally superficial - nothing actually wrong with the room, just aged a bit. Be aware that the rooms are upstairs without lifts but the staff would help with luggage I'm sure.
Review 54:Room was clean and airy. Staff were great, location perfect for our adventure. The staff gave us recommendations of places to eat which were spot on. Loved the music in the bar at the end of the night (we'd been to a gig) and what I assume were locals were welcoming - grabbing hold of us to come and dance with them. Good fun, great memories made, will re book.
Review 55:Wifi code supplied did not work, the very nice looking sash windows let in a lot of noise from revellers.
Review 56:Beds very comfortable, very clean with all necessities. Good sea views with a good location right on the sea front.
Review 57:Back room number 3. Very dated with view onto fire escape. Noise shouting and screaming from street nearby most of the night, with loading trolleys from lorries delivering to shops 5 am.
Review 58:Made welcome on arrival. courteous staff. Food average. Bar drinks good price / selection Shower good.
Review 59:Shower wouldn't turn off, no one answered the phone when I called for help down with my bags in the morning, and I had a terrible time finding the hotel in the first place. Also, the people of Morecambe were quite rude to me. In short, the hotel was great, but Morecambe was not.
Review 60:Room was huge and comfy, staff friendly.
Review 61:Sorry didn't like anything at all about the accomation big disappointment worse ever
Review 62:Everything apart from what we went there for, which was to celebrate our wedding anniversy I know I could never recommend this place to anyone except maybe workmen I'm sorry but was very disappointed and would never stop there again the pictures and what you get are millions of miles apart sorry
Review 63:The room was a bit simple but I guess you can expect that for a great price. Also the neighborhood is a bit poor.
Review 64:We have spent the night at the Royal Hotel Annex which is located about 150m down the road from the actual Royal Hotel. The Royal Hotel Annex is basically a refurbished apartment building located almost right on the promenade. Public parking (free over night) is available in the surrounding streets. Lot of restaurants nearby.
Review 65:The lack of inclusive car parking facilities. The Morecombe resort is one of the worst in Britain for the cost of parking and lack of 24hour parking.
Review 66:The Staff were very helpful and provided useful local information. There was an added advantage, of a beer festival being held at the Royal during our stay.
Review 67:The noise from the bar and from outside. Did not get great sleep and for that reason would not come here again
Review 68:The size and comfort of room. Friendly staff. Location
Review 69:Booked a family room and were told there was extra bedding for the pull out sofa bed for my child. Arrived back late after a wedding and there was no bedding available. No one around on site to contact. We all had to sleep in a double bed with insufficient bedding. Very uncomfortable
Review 70:The en suite bathroom was nice and spacious.
Review 71:Being woken by staff member to say we had to be out by 10am when it stated 11am on the booking confirmation email. Apparently this had changed a few weeks earlier but we werent advised on check in. Small dated room
Review 72:Location is excellent, friendly bar, food ok, comfy bed
Review 73:Initially entrance to apartment was up a very grimy flight of narrow stairs shared with another (I assume non-hotels owned apartment) but once inside it was very clean and we all thought it was excellent. If you can't make stairs, certainly not for you! Check in was in very loud and packed bar so couldn't hear a word staff member was saying. Very happy we were staying a little walk away from the actual hotel. On street parking from 6pm to 10am - after that you have to move car around to get another 1 - 2 hours free parking (or park in car park opposite apartment)
Review 74:Very clean, modern and well laid out. View from living room lovely - over bay. Very close to local attractions. Pleased not to be over the actual pub itself - that would have been hell I think!
Review 75:Didn't like the staff, there was no reception, you just stand at thebar and hope some one notices you, room was small, old fashioned, smelt ofpigeon droppings,in the end we didn't tay we came home.
Review 76:Didn't serve breakfast but a Wetherspoons 100 yards away did so not a problem.
Review 77:Fantastic view over Morcambe Bay. Tasty pizza with a good meal deal that including glass of wine or pint of beer.
Review 78:Nothing. It was excellent for purpose.
Review 79:The space of the apartment. We only had one night so did not really make use of it. But would definitely recommend to stay there.
Review 80:Filthy exterior at the back access pigeon droppings everywhere peeling paint basically yuk! (used if you leave early in the morning. Very, very noisy at night from Friday to Sunday. Cheap yes but comfy no.
Review 81:Good value clean bathroom and bedding
Review 82:This place seems like the best pub in town, good food too at reasonable prices. Room was basic but clean, but for the price you can't complain, would stay again
Review 83:Not an issue for us but the Royal is a pub renting out rooms rather than a hotel so facilities are limited Single glazed period windows so the seagulls will wake light sleepers up at around 6am.
Review 84:Clean well equiped appartment with modern interior Good sized kitchen diner/lounge with panoramic views of the bay Good option for 2 couples who don't mind sharing a bathroom Friendly staff Lovely traditional pub with excellent value real ales
Review 85:Be prepared for some night-time noise, especially if live music is playing! It is above a pub, so is to be expected, but don't plan on an early night unless you have earplugs!
Review 86:Friendly reception by staff, the room was exactly what we needed for a quick and comfortable stay. Clean and tidy with good facilities.
Review 87:Great room, spacious, it had sofa and chairs to relax on instead of using the bed. I like the fact that the accommodation was away from the main build as it would have been abit noisy with the bar and bands. But all good the staff were lovely and the bar was very nice.
Review 88:the annex rooms are horrible facilities were poor in room. no mattress protector on bed. the annex is on a dirty side street in town. old mattress outside of room in hall way.
Review 89:the royal hotel bar is nice. the staff friendly.
Review 90:Promise of extra tea/coffee etc was not fulfilled Nose from other rooms prevented any sleep Rooms overlooked so blinds had to be closed at all times
Review 91:first impression was a rowdy, noisy pub not a hotel really. Barman checked us in there was no reception. Although we were unimpressed at first this was all outweighed by our comments about the good things.
Review 92:size of bedroom and washroom bar downstairs - really good as we didn't need to leave hotel back door lead to main street with banks, post office, shops and a Wetherspoons for meals and drinks.
Review 93:It's a loud pub, not a hotel. No double glazing and is on main busy road. Bathroom floor was wet. Bed sheets looked used. No room service to clean room after staying the night.
Review 94:The food is fantastic
Review 95:Lack of breakfast, no information in rooms on things to see and do in town Insufficient tea and coffee sachets in room two tea bags in room for two people is not enough
Review 96:Good room, clean and spacious with great evening meals in the bar.
Review 97:Bit cold. No information on local area, facilities. WIFI not working unable to get help. Room away from main building so not ideal had to ring!!! Wouldn't stay for more than a night
Review 98:The room was big enough, facilities ok. Bit cold. No info provided, had to pay extra to use single bed. It was only overnight wouldn't stayed longer. WIFI not working and difficult to get hold of anyone to sort. Room away from pub which had not picked up on. We had paricularly noisy occupants upstairs.
Review 99:I was surprised that the accommodation was not at the hotel but at an annex 5mins down the road. I paid for a sea front room and ours was more of a side view. The bed had no mattress protector just a flat sheet onto a bare mattress.
Review 100:Our room was was furnished and decorated to a high standard and was spotlessly clean.Brilliant value for money, central location. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 101:First weekend- small room and shower, NOISE from the band downstairs, stuffy/hot room with no air conditioning or fan 50 steps to my room No housekeeping other than clean towels when you asked.
Review 102:After the 1st weekend, the staff moved me to a delightful room in the annex which was lovely, cool, and spacious. Lovely view of the bay Staff was very helpful when contacted.
Review 103:Nothing at all.
Review 104:The flat was everything a family needed. The people of the area were very friendly and helpfull. All in all an excellent place and hotel.
Review 105:nothing couldnt fault the hotel.
Review 106:atmosphere was great live bands and good bands too, prices for food and drink fantastic just what people need when going to a resort when they have saved their hard earned money, staff were great and made you feel very welcome , will be coming again asap.
Review 107:The bed was pretty poor and quite uncomfortable which was not good for sleeping in. The view overlooking the fire escape was not great but to be fair not a massive issue
Review 108:location was great as it was exactly where we wanted to stay. overall it was very clean and tidy and it had a great atmosphere.
Review 109:Loved it all. Seagulls a bit noisey but there's nothing that can be done about that.
Review 110:It was exactly what we were looking for. We stayed in the 2 bed annex and it was huge. Beautiful sea views, right near the shops and beach.
Review 111:The promised sea view was out of the small side window in the bay... The room was not in the actual Royal. The staff member, very friendly, took me out tge back of the pub and up an alley. As a lone traveller a prior explanation would be useful! Top light didn't work. No matress protector. Up two floors despite notifying I was asthmatic and requesting lower room.
Review 112:The room was large and airy, en suite, modern and comfortable. It was opposite the statue. Staff were absolutely lovely. Good quality towels and bedding. Hot drink facility in room, bed was very comfy. I slept like a log. Near to Winter gardens/market
Review 113:Our room was in the annexe which is not far from the main building we had to climb 52 stairs to get to the room but ot was well worth it the room was stunning as was the sea view. The hotel had no parking but you can park right behind the annex in the council car park for only £ 3.20 a day
Review 114:Not enough bed/cots or bedding for number of occupants. Could have been cleaner, dust apparent in many places, didn't take dirty nappies next to bin. Wardrobe smelt funny. Too many stairs for little children (Family room on 3rd floor)
Review 115:Location/View from the windows Pleased to be located in Annexe, quieter than main pub building
Review 116:When we arrived at the hotel after a 9 hour drive from Wales we were taken to the 3 bedroom annex which was down the road but as we were just settling in we were asked to move to the other annex further up the road. We really could have done with out this after the travelling. Also we didn't find the staff very sociable but we don't know if it was because we stayed at the Annex and not at the actual hotel.
Review 117:The views from the Annex was fab especially when the sun was setting in the evenings.
Review 118:Parking was a big issue, had to keep moving car around till the evening. View wasn't good and those bloody dam seagulls kept you awake most of the night
Review 119:Room was clean and staff friendly
Review 120:Very difficult to sleep past daylight with noise of seagulls and traffic. Bed also was uncomfortable. Darker curtains needed and some secondary glazing to limit noise if possible. Bedroom walls were stained and need repainting.
Review 121:Nice sea view from room. Friendly staff. Good large bathroom.
Review 122:first night we got there had to go out as our room was right above where they had someone singing!!! Just wanted a bit of peace and quiet
Review 123:staff were polite and place itself was nice
Review 124:apartment is on 2nd floor and access is via cramped staircase. Difficult to carry luggage.
Review 125:Stayed in 3 bed apartment. It was well furnished and suitable for 6 adults.
Review 126:A bit cold
Review 127:Friendly staff. Location, good beer
Review 128:Getting woke up at 10 for room cleaned !milk off that i put in my coffee .
Review 129:Its was clean .reassable quite evey friendly
Review 130:Excellent friendly hotel manager great food
Review 131:Good location in center of promenade & live entertainment on bar on evening good value for money
Review 132:Small towels
Review 133:Location
Review 134:Good location
Review 135:Cold room.hard bed.not many bars.
Review 136:Not much really very little to do and the town centre is like a ghost town.
