Reviews for Achnagairn Estate

Review 1:The room was incredibly big, there was great cooking space and the living room was confortable, a great place for me to use as a base to visit my parents, will def be back again!!!

Review 2:Was not informed we would be sharing kitchen this was awkward and made us feel uncomfortable also requested a bath and git a shower room you will receive an email from me in couple days with issues we had

Review 3:The bed was comfortable venue clean

Review 4:A minor quibble is that, when booking online, it's not entirely clear that you may be sharing a lodge with other guests. There were 5 bedrooms in our lodge but we were only using 2 of them. Not a problem this time as we had the whole lodge to ourselves, but it may not suit everyone to share a kitchen, TV lounge etc with other guests that you don't know.

Review 5:The lodge that we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable. Achnagairn is a great base to spend time exploring the amazing landscape of the Highlands.

Review 6:The fact that it was self catering. We had hoped for bed and breakfast true Scottish style, sadly it was find the goods and make your own. No telephone. No easy way of contacting reception and no info in the lodge. Sound proofing not good. We could hear our fellow patrons very easily. More suited to large family groups.

Review 7:Very clean and fresh.good quality furniture and furnishings. Very pleasant castle grounds and plenty of seclusion. Looks good for a wedding venue.

Review 8:There is no clear instructions and guidelines on using the dishes and other utensils such as how to use the dish washer to clean them, There was not enough paper tower in kitchen.

Review 9:The kitchen is big.

Review 10:We had a couple of bad points which really brought down my opinion of the place. 1. We stayed for 2 nights, meaning we had 2 mornings that we would be showering. Both mornings there was no hot water - none. Having a freezing cold shower is not how I like to start my mornings, especially on my birthday weekend. 2. When we arrived, there was a mix up with the keys to our rooms and we were told they would be sent to the lodge straight away, we had to wait an hour for this meaning we lost time for our plans that we had. We had £80 deducted from our overall cost, which makes up a small amount for the experience.

Review 11:It was an absolutely beautiful place, the buildings were fantastic, the interior was impressive and the views were something else. The rooms were nice and the living areas were welcoming.

Review 12:It wasn't mentioned that we had to make breakfast on our own. But that was okay. But the breakfast was disappointing. No bacon or ham or sth like that. There were dirty plates and glasses, the coffe machine didn't work.

Review 13:It was a nice and comfortable room, the room was clean. The staff in the castle was very friendly.

Review 14:Breakfast not topped up day 3 from other visitors. For the price a bit poor. A bit pricy for the type and continental breakfast. Down stairs room noisy from upstairs clients. B&M Australia

Review 15:Accommodation was good but out of the way.

Review 16:We didn't like that no one explained to us that we had to cook our own breakfast and when we tried there were no pots and pans ,and there were a few minor repairs that needed doing ,but when we mentioned it we were given a discount which we didn't expect ,so that was very nice of them .

Review 17:over all we loved the place ,really nice lodges ,plenty of parking, beautiful country side views, very relaxing.

Review 18:Everything. It was simply perfect! The facilities were amazing. The attention to detail was something worth experiencing! We had dinner at the Achnagairn House. Absolutely perfect experience. So we'll mannered, polite staff. Delicious food! An amazing time!

Review 19:Not a thing

Review 20:Loved staying here what could have been a very stressful time personally was made to be very relaxing as it is so quiet and peaceful and you are able to live in a well appointed luxury lodge which is clean and well decorated with simple lines and something a bit different in decor. Plenty parking spaces as you have your own drive and seating area out front weather permitting . Husband loved the pool table in the hall which we made good use of . Plenty of choice for you to have for breakfast

Review 21:nothing

Review 22:Friendly welcome when you get your key at the stunning castle. Beautiful surroundings and garden. Very clean and spacious bedroom, bathroom, furniture. Enough toilettries, bathrobes and good hair dryer. Everything looks new and hardly used. Beautifully decorated. You could prepare your own breakfast in the kitchen. Parking directly in front of your lodge.

Review 23:There wasn't anything I didn't like. If I had to say something, it'd be that it was a little too quiet outside at night.

Review 24:I loved the facilities and the freedom involved with having self-catering facilities, i.e. having breakfast at whatever time etc.

Review 25:No negatives. Would have been pricey, but for last minute discounts.

Review 26:The staff was fantastic, albeit short on personnel. The grounds were beautiful. The rooms were very clean, comfortable and luxurious.

Review 27:No mention of shared kitchen at booking. Kitchen was messy from other occupants and some dodgy cheese in the fridge had my partner gagging. That said, we were offered breakfast in the main castle which was nice of management so overall can't whinge too much.

Review 28:Super comfy bed, pleasant staff, room was immaculate, location (surrounding scenery) was lovely. Very little light pollution in the surrounding area and property gave a good view of the night sky. Would stay there again.

Review 29:Hotel is not on GPS and hard to find. We called hotel numerous times and immediately went to voice mail. They did not have our reservation when we arrived and took quite a while to find it. The actual rooms are not on the site of the check in - and they gave us keys to go to the site. They gave us wrong keys and told us the wrong "estate house" to go to. We tried to call but again phone went to voice mail. We drove back to get the right keys and apology was given but hardly profuse. We were two adults and two children and had booked two rooms- were not on the same floor of the house. The room my daughter and I shared was on first floor and next to car park, where we heard gravel all night as cars drove in and out. We shared "estate" with two other groups and house is not soundproofed/insulated so we heard stomping all night. In the morning, "breakfast" is just a fully-stocked refrigerator where everyone is on their own to make breakfast. The Italian couple was very gracious as we bumped into each other making toast and coffee but the British woman was very put out in having to share a kitchen with an American family. This would be perfect lodging for a family reunion or those who know each other well but very awkward when we were not expecting to have this communal meal experience. There is no restaurant on the property - although in our many returns to the "Castle" it appeared there was a restaurant but it was either fully booked or they did not want to accommodate a family. They sent us to a small town a few miles away where the restaurant they recommended was crowded, loud and mediocre food but did have, what the "Estates" lacked, in terms of warm and accommodating staff.

Review 30:The "Estates" are new, beautifully furnished and very clean . They have some charm and whimsy to the decor. This lodging would be perfect for a family reunion, a large family or a group of friends traveling together.

Review 31:The house was noisy, there was no soundproofing on the staircase. You ended up sharing the house with other families on holiday. Breakfast was self service and just continental style. Price was ridiculous for amenities offered.

Review 32:Was unaware when booking that we would be sharing a lodge with strangers Bad smell from drains

Review 33:Staff very helpful and friendly Beautiful setting, accommodation excellent, clean and well equipped Amazing food at castle Excellent place to share lodge with group of friends/family

Review 34:The shower was broken for half of our 2 night stay. we got a shower in another room but, for the price, that should have been picked up prior to our arrival.

Review 35:The room was nice and location in respect to the Castle was convenient.

Review 36:We paid £50 per person per night, for the cheapest room, bed and breakfast, which to me is top end. Usually B&B means that you get a full cooked breakfast made for you. Whilst the facilities were top notch, we had to make our own breakfast, which was continental, cereal, cheese, yoghurt, eggs and fruit. For the price and considering it was self catering I would of expected some meat, at least some bacon and sausages!!! In fact on Sunday morning after our lodge had filled up with probably 10-12 guests on the Saturday night, there was just 6 eggs left from the 12 that were in the fridge on our arrival, not really enough!!! It was great when we arrived and there was just 4 occupants but as the lodge filled up room was tight and it felt slightly like a posh hostel sharing the dinning room and kitchen with 8-10 other people cooking became difficult. Our room was quite small and there was no Tv or seating so if you wanted space you were on the bed!!!

Review 37:The location was excellent, not far to Inverness or the Glens. Accommodation was clean and modern. The estate grounds were lovely.

Review 38:Nothing

Review 39:Beautiful rooms, very clean, we had huge bedroom with jacuzzi :) access to the kitchen with lovely very bright dinning room. I wish to go again. My son is 7 years old and first sentence in the bedroom- amazing ;)

Review 40:Gravel everywhere for wedding venue (heeled shoes) not good idea, shower in bedroom not in en suit did not like that, fire door out side my room woke us up late into night and then again from5.30 am so did not get much sleep

Review 41:It was lovely grounds ,the living area was very spacious and clean

Review 42:The pathway to the main house could have been better lit at night time.

Review 43:We stayed in one of the lodges at Achnagairn and we couldn't have been happier, they are newly finished and well equipped. We loved having the lounge area to relax in. The staff were very friendly when they popped in to see if we were ok/needed anything.

Review 44:The wi-fi wasn't functional, there were no tv or coffee making facilities in the room and you had to make your own breakfast which was weird for 5* B&B, the only cooked option was eggs, no bacon. For that price you want to be waited on.

Review 45:the water was hot, the rooms were spacious and clean and the bed was very comfortable. it was a stones throw from the castle where the wedding we were at took place. They put up a carry cot for our wee one.

Review 46:TV didn't have any signal in the room. Should have had a bar and sitting area on the site

Review 47:The kitchen and sitting room are very well furnished and have everything for a short or longer stay. I only stayed for two nights but would happily have stayed longer as it was so peaceful.

Review 48:Not 5 star Sharing facilities with numerous others Noise Total lack of staff and customer service

Review 49:Some rooms quite nice when you had them to enjoy to yourself

Review 50:Lack of television in room and workspace to set up laptop. Also no bath or facilities to make tea/ coffee in the room.

Review 51:Comfortable bed and spacious

Review 52:no heaters,no hot water from sink, shower good tho.probably teething troubles, looked like new, almost finished build....

Review 53:nice,basic,clean,friendly staff.beatiful location,secluded.awoke refreshed.would recommend thank you.

Review 54:Communal doors heavy and very loud when closing, this is not good when one set of guests are in and out at 2.00.am. and then one of them leaves at 4.00 am!! No television in room only in communal lounge.

Review 55:Lovely setting. Very clean. A little taken aback by breakfast arrangements - food provided in superb shared kitchen, guests then prepare their own food. Actually turned out to be ideal.

Review 56:Too small a dishwasher. Shower in bedroom area seemed slightly strange. Hope some more landscaping is still to happen to break up 'housing estate' look and provide some privacy it would have felt 'too public' to eat a full meal outdoors. Price quite high for having to share kitchen facilites+ a mystery £6 addition to my Booking .com bill.

Review 57:Everything is new, good quality and exceptionally clean. The staff are really excellent -friendly and always pleased to help. We only stayed 2 nights and did not expect a room clean but that happened which was lovely. Ample amount of food and fruit left for breakfasts.Very handy for Inverness; quiet, safe areas for children to play. It was good to have outdoor seating and table, lovely grounds to walk through. We will definitely keep this as 'to stay again' venue and would recommend it to friends.

Review 58:No staff to greet us or show us around the house. Didn't know the kitchen was shared with other guests

Review 59:The location was lovely, houses very modern and clean

Review 60:Couldn't find the site on GPS and couldn't get anyone on the phone to get directions.

Review 61:Lovely room, nice view, comfortable beds, clean bathroom, loved the kitchen and kitchen utilities.

Review 62:Kirkhill offers no services. I f you don't want to cook and dine out, the nearest restaurant is the Priory Hotel in Beauly (20 mins by car) there is no service so you can't call anybody to book a table either. We booked a deluxe room because we wanted more space and ended up with a bedroom that fits only the superking size bed on the ground floor next to the kitchen, which was really far from the pictures displayed as deluxe rooms on this website (very large and with sitting area). Moreover 3 out of 6 bedrooms were already in use. I didn't like the fact the best before label of an expired bread was removed and the expire loaf left there anyway.

Review 63:The position if fantastic to reach highlands. They have really good reply service if you have special needs (we wanted to be sure to have a superking size bed cause our baby cosleeps with us). The lady at reception was really kind in offering (instead of the deluxe room) a superior room in a lodge with no other guests. The lodge and the bedroom were pristine, really clean. The Tit willow offers a super king size bed, a separate dressing area and a shower over bath. You have to cook your breakfast. Eggs, yogurts, milk, cereals, cheese, ham, selection of bread is available in the kitchen and replaced every day. It would be really nice book the entire lodge with friends and certainly will do that in future.

Review 64:Being a couple within a lodge. Other guests were very noisy late into the evening. Doors are self closing and this meant they were also very noisy. No doubt if your group had the whole lodge this would not be an issue. Location is ok when self catering but a restaurant on site would be a bonus. Thought bit overpriced given that you make own breakfast. Paid £140 for one night in superior room but not sure if got correct room? Was relatively small.

Review 65:The lodge is beautiful. The decor and quirkiness was great. I loved the kitchen area and the living areas. Breakfast was more than adequate for us.

Review 66:The doors to the individual rooms don't actually lock properly and are just on a latch which opens the door enough for anyone to see in, this happened one morning when a member of staff entered our room without knocking and the door caught on the latch but not before we were rudely awoken with the bang.

Review 67:The lodge was beautifully decorated, clean and very homely. I loved the theme throughout the lodge and when we visited there was only one other lodger in our particular lodge. The staff that I met were very friendly and helpful when needed. The location is perfect for a getaway from the big city, the walks are lovely and peaceful. There are also a few restaurants nearby by car and the lodges are in a good location to get to these.

Review 68:The nearest shopping centre is quite a distance. You have to do your shopping before arriving.

Review 69:The lodges are exceptionallly well decorated and have all the thinkable facilities.

Review 70:Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely rooms each one different. Lodges were lovely and quiet. Gorgeous bathrooms with loads of hot water. Kitchens were well designed and stocked thanks for my gluten free bread!

Review 71:As a business traveller there were a few things that were anoying 1 I had specifically booked into the hotel not the lodges on the booking.com web site. This gave me a cooked breakfast and somewhere I could get a cooked evening meal without having to look for a place in Inverness. The hotel changed the stay to the lodges and sent a email to me at 9.03am on the day of arrival; I had already left so missed to email. 2 On arrival after 7.00pm the hotel was closed the main doors were locked and no one answer the two door bells. 3 A telephone call pointed me to the lodges; where a Lady in the lodge reception was waiting for two guests to arrive. Unfrotunaley I was not one of them. 4 I had a ten minute wait for another receptionist to come to site; who explained it was Booking.Com web site fault that I had been booked into the hotel and not the lodges; and that the room I was booked into had been given to another guest. 5 The receptionist upgraded the room for me which was nice. 6 The lodges have a lovely shared kitchen and you make your own breakfast. (which i did not like) 7 I left a day earlier and left the keys with a man in the laundry room as the reception was not manned when I left at around 8.00am. I did not get a VAT bill or receipt for the stay. 8 When I got home I found that I had been charged an extra £8.00p on my credit card. Booking.com price £320.00p the actual bill was £328.00p. It may be a samll administration charge and % on the total bill but I find this unexceptable. The lodges were nice; the accomadation was 5 star but the service was 1star.

Review 72:The lodges were lovely. would have been nice to stay there as a couple looking for a quite place to stay

Review 73:When booking the room it was not made clear that the room was located in a lodge to be shared with other guests (strangers) had we known this we would have made other plans. The walk back from the main house was also pitch black, difficult at 1am after an all day wedding in heels. There was also no electricity when we arrived so couldnt have a shower etc before attending wedding.

Review 74:The location was ideal for attending a wedding at the main house. Our room was clean and the facilities were excellent.

Review 75:Shared lodge, described on the booking as staying in the main house, not one of the lodges, sharing with other guests. Did not say on the booking that breakfast was continental and help yourself. Meat looked dodgy, bread was a day out of date. Bathroom had a door that led to outside, with no blind on it, had to bath in the dark.... Very noisy at night when other people staying in the lodge came in as the bedroom that i was located was next to the entrance. The one member of staff that I did meet was very nervous.

Review 76:Size of the bedroom & bathroom

Review 77:There is nothing to mention here.

Review 78:We liked the lovely location, the friendly and helpful people and the unique setting we were in. It is a gorgeous place. Also ideal for small groups and families. One should have been there!

Review 79:Wish there was a land-phone in the house.

Review 80:The room was perfect with a kitchennette, the bed very comfortable and the AC working beautifully. The staff were very helpful. My friend really liked the modern design of the lodge, really amazing. Beyond what we expected. Since we had our own kitchen so it was great chance to cook our own fav meal while on holiday, fantastic. Great value for money. We really enjoyed our stay there.

Review 82:Just a tip for future travellers - make sure to save a contact number if you arrive after hours as there isn't a dedicated reception.

Review 83:The lodge was decorated beautifully, each room having its own theme. They'd really thought about the finishing touches with matching furniture, cushions and bedding. The kitchen was kitted out with everything we needed, included fresh ingredients to make breakfast. Quality toiletries and towels included. Plenty of (free) parking. Good location for exploring Loch Ness or into Inverness, you will need a car though!

Review 84:Very warm

Review 85:High quality finishing

Review 86:unforgetable memories

Review 87:Altogether the place was a little 'strange' - we had the Arabian Night theme.

Review 88:It was clean.

Review 89:Just amazing! Beautiful location. The lodge was stunning and it was great to meet other guests over breakfast.

Review 90:It was difficult to find the reception

Review 91:An excellent bed and breakfast, superb location, an ideal getaway!

Review 92:Poor attention from the staff, no explanation. Room very basic, Sheared kitchen facility awkward.

Review 93:Nothing.

Review 94:Nice deluxe room in '1001 Arabian nights' style. Amazing Jacuzzi in the bathroom.

Review 95:Food left in the fridge for breakfast could be more variable (include bacon for ex., etc)

Review 96:Big room and very comfortable bed.

Review 97:Booked a second night, but not told we'd be sharing

Review 98:Run of the house, relaxing and comfortable. Excellent breakfast ingredients left for us.

Review 99:Nothing again brilliant place to stay

Review 100:The people and the location are excellent. Very well presented and cleaned to a very high standard.

Review 101:Freedom of choice, standard of finish, space, decor, setting. In fact everything!!!

Review 102:bathroom, kitchen, spaciousness, bedroom.......everything. Next stay booked already.

Review 103:Breakfast horrible Lack of service and personal

Review 104:Nice place

Review 105:not meeting any staff, which is a bit odd.

Review 106:Very comfortable rooms and very good beds

Review 107:Each room has its own theme. Beautiful views. Excellent breakfast.
