Reviews for The Castle Inn
Review 1:Slow, late breakfast service, most of menu on the expensive side, minimal sea view (think Fawlty Towers Mrs Richards sketch), no shower, dingy bar, rundown feeling overall
Review 2:Good real ale & curry, comfortable bed
Review 3:Read above sorry got boxes mixed up but have put in staff very friendly
Review 4:The staff were friendly and breakfast was good the accommodation was clean but the bed let the b and b down duvet as flat as a pancake the mattress uncomfortable needed at least a memory foam topper on it pillows uncomfortable this b and b needs to invest in its beds would not recommend to friends due to the above unfortunate because the staff were very welcoming
Review 5:The Inn is on the main street of the town so don't expect to sleep in if your room is in the front of the Inn due to the sound of morning traffic. Just ask for a room at the back.
Review 6:Huge room yet super cozy, heater that you could really crank up, high quality coffee and tea in room, and a tub! Staff was lovely. I had to leave early in the morning so they set out a special breakfast for me a full hour before they normslly do breakfast. It was simply granola, cereal, milk, fresh made toast and jams, as well as coffee and tea, but it was absolutly lovely. They even tried to send me away with some food to go as i was hiking a trail with no places to stop for food that day. Very kind.
Review 7:The only things were a bit of trouble with the spray shower in our room and wifi access was limited to the restaurant.
Review 8:The staff were incredible even brought our son a birthday brownie the morning of his 14th birthday and put on birthday music! They advised us where to go and everything was awesome! We loved the history of the Castle Inn and the area! It was fun having drinks in the pub at night after our wonderful days!
Review 9:Due to a mix-up over whether we would have dogs with us or not (which could have been better resolved if someone from the hotel had bothered to call us), we were allocated Room 2 which is directly above the bar. What no-one told us is that there is a very loud jukebox in the bar which is immediately below this room (so loud that I was convinced there was a disco going on), which started playing at 11pm and went on until 12.30am at maximum volume (with enthusiastic singing from the revellers to accompany it) at which time it reduced in volume. We finally got to sleep at 2.30am after everyone had stopped partying in and around the hotel. I sincerely recommend not staying in Room 2 on a Saturday night - I don't know what other nights and other rooms would be like, but our night was very unpleasant. We were given a £10 reduction in the room rate when I complained, and the excuse for not giving more than that was that Booking.com in some way prevents them from giving more reduction than that. Not very good compensation in my view for losing around 33% of our sleep...
Review 10:Staff were generally friendly, and room was clean and tidy.
Review 11:Restaurant for evenings. Most of fresh fish choices not available
Review 12:Great location and easy park. Large spacious attic room meant for three but only charged as a double. Brilliant local information folders with lots of individual suggestions for local visits. Well thought out and put together
Review 13:The shower in our room was situated half way up the wall meaning you either had to shower kneeling down or hold the shower head in one hand. Definite drawback.
Review 14:Friendly helpful staff.
Review 15:none real nice place
Review 16:we stayed for the weekend at the castle inn lovely rooms real nice food the owners where great hosts great place to stay will be going back
Review 17:Rooms are clean, comfortable (possibility of tea / coffee, wardrobes, tv), good shower (high pressure), even the small liquid soaps provided smell very good. Breakfast (included with the room) was excellent as well, very well cooked, you can have the quantity you like, and large choice (kellogs cereals to eggs benedict). (I recommend as well to test dinner or lunch in the pub). Finally everything for a very good price. Free car park. Newport is pretty as well (coast path).
Review 18:for the same reasons, not so great for those not aware and who want to rest and sleep after dinner...
Review 19:Traditional rooms above the pub with a great bluesy/rock band; Great to get a nice evening.
Review 20:The room could benefit from double glazing to counter the noise of the traffic, but it wasn't overly busy so not too sleep-impacting.
Review 21:Good, clean, basic rooms and a breakfast that was worth waking up for; very friendly staff and great central location. Will probably be back in the not-too-distant future...
Review 22:Actually there was nothing to dislike. Bear in mind this is a pub and hotel in the town, so if you are looking for a quiet early night this may not be the place for you to choose.
Review 23:Location Free parking Friendliness of the staff - first class
Review 24:Shower head attached at knee height (!), booked a twin room but got a double initially but was rectified, very noisy road and only single glazing. Clean room, dirty corridoor
Review 25:Great dinner, drink and breakfast, comfortable bed
Review 26:no shower in the bathroom, dog not allowed in room
Review 27:excellent food, helpful staff, great beer and cider, good decor, clean, comfortable, good price, excellent location, near the coast, great scenery nearby, good shops in the town, dog allowed in bar, quiet overnight
Review 28:The bar area was a bit tired and could do with some redecoration.
Review 29:The surroundings were lovely, and the room we had was very comfortable. We chose The Castle Inn as an overnight stop on the way to cross from Pembroke to Rosslare. As such it was a very pleasant stay with an excellent breakfast. We would stay there again.
Review 30:Sleep was impossible, Music from the bar is so loud. We stayed on a Saturday, we were not warned that they have bands playing until at least 00.30. Service is perfunctory at best, on check in and in the bar.
Review 31:Rooms are Immaculate. Food Menu and Beer selection in the bar is good. Wifi was good.
Review 32:A little noisy in the morning with doors slamming as guests were vacating.
Review 33:Location ideal and within a few mins walk to the beach. Can follow the path to walk to Dinas Head and onto Fishguard. Bar and restaurant had good selection of food and drink. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 34:The Castle Inn is located on the narrow, main road through Newport which can be busy in the daytime but quiet at night. Our room was directly above the bar with juke box. However, all was quiet from 11.30pm.
Review 35:Location in Newport and accessible to a number of places. Good quality meals in the restaurant, both breakfast and evening meal. Pleasant and helpful staff. Car parking at the side of the Inn. Spacious, comfortable room.
Review 36:Bus stops in front of Inn (easy access for travelers). The local bus runs frequent scheduled buses connecting the Inn to the train and ferry services in Fishguard. Meals were the best we had in Wales. Rooms are comfortable and clean. They have prepared am extensive book of maps and sightseeing sites for both hikers and those looking to explore the area.
