Reviews for Cook's of Stirling
Review 1:Location sandwiched between the busy roundabout and the Waitrose Car Park was rather deceivingly hidden in the photos. Heating had been turned off for some time on one of the colder nights of the year and the sash windows whisted in the wind
Review 2:Friendly staff, clean rooms, comfortable bed
Review 3:Sorry but the mattress was to hard for our liking,
Review 4:Staff where wonderful and bent over backwards to make our stay wonderful, read complaints about the single pain sash Windows but it's a listed building and adds to the character of the room
Review 5:Waitress for breakfast was a very quiet young girl, head down, no conversation but worse they charged £9 for breakfast but used powdered egg for my scrambled eggs, no this is a real pet hate of mine, is it really to hard to crack a few eggs, they where not that busy.
Review 6:Evening bar lady and waitress both so welcoming and friendly, lovely people. Evening did I had (fish and chips, homemade tartare sauce) was excellent as was the homemade desert, had an awesome craft beer on tap but it was a little pricey, almost £5 a pint.
Review 7:Room was quite cool because of the poor condition of the window frame. The heater was placed at the window, thus the loss of heat to the outside. Shower system wasn't ideal for us pensioners, having to climb in and out of the bath.
Review 8:Location was good. Good size room with good facilities. Lovely dining room and bar. on site parking.
Review 9:Bit difficult to find the entrance to the hotel carpark.
Review 10:The location was good for the centre of Stirling and the interior of the hotel was very good. Very comfortable bed and great shower.
Review 11:Only had one key per room so if couple going off to do different activities would need to remember to leave key in hotel. Reception was just part of restaurant.
Review 12:We ate one evening in restaurant, food was excellent. Handy for walking into town centre.
Review 13:It was a little tricky to approach because it's right off a roundabout so had to go round a few times to figure out. Rather dated decor in room but still very clean.
Review 14:The room was quite spacious, clean and well planned. Nice restaurant on main floor. Very close walking distance to old Stirling, just cross the street and walk 5 minutes. Large supermarket off parking lot so great to pick up snacks. Lovely, looking building from outside.
Review 15:the entrance to the car park comes up a bit quick after the roundabout
Review 16:from the time that we arrived the staff made you feel very welcome , Information directions were all first class
Review 17:The reception desk was in a strange location, to find. Found a staff member who was very helpful. The mattress had to be the hardest I have ever slept on, no padding.
Review 18:Great location and great value for the money.
Review 19:Careful when you put postcode into sat nav comes up at the OTHER side of the main road. Public areas smelt of food
Review 20:Hotel chosen for location and free parking. Room very comfortable.
Review 21:Hotel is good and rooms great but it is located right on a roundabout which is misleading from the photographs.
Review 22:Spacious comfortable rooms. Good location for the centre of town but also for access to surrounding areas
Review 23:It was just perfect We stayed 6 Days in 6 different hotel around Scotland and Frankly - Cook's of Stirling Was really great The restaurant was great And everything about the hotel was perfect
Review 24:Tried to put the TV on for some background noise but the reception was poor, however it made no bearing on our stay as we weren't there to watch television!
Review 25:Staff were friendly and the facilities were clean and comfortable. Very ideal location and central for shopping or going out during the evening. I also lost my watch which was found at the hotel and kindly returned to me by post.
Review 26:We actually tried to stay another night, but as this hotel seems to fill up quickly, always book ahead.
Review 27:We found the location ideal for walking to castle, shops. The room was quite spacious with views and windows that open, yet still had a cozy feel. Maybe it was the comfy bed.
Review 28:My wife was vomiting all night with food poisoning which was definitely from the hotel dinner as until then we had eaten the same things all day. Reported this to the only staff member on duty the next morning and asked her to tell kitchen staff and manager. The manager has made no response whatsoever to what is a serious incident. Is this because he just doesn't care and thinks "these things happen"? Clearly this attitude is unlikely to lead to him taking action to find the cause and prevent a recurrence. As a minor point, I also resented having to pay for a meal which led to my wife vomiting and both of us having little sleep.
Review 29:The staff were good and friendly and the hotel was easy to find. The room was quite large.
Review 30:The mattress was VERY firm and the wifi didn't work too well. The place really shuts down overnight which made it difficult for us to leave at 6:30.
Review 31:The food was absolutely excellent. Some of the best we had our whole trip. Great and walkable location as well.
Review 32:No WiFi. Located on a busy road so some traffic noise. Room view was of Waitrose car park.
Review 33:Location ideal for exploring Stirling. Modern and clean hotel. Good parking.
Review 34:The bed first of all, the mattress was like a brick. It was really hard and so are the pillows, no comfort. The windows don't bother me but if your a light sleeper and wake easy it could be a problem as it's clear there's no double glazing.
Review 35:The rooms are a perfect size! Really modern looking aswell and the bathroom is a decent size. The room had a television and tea or coffee for the mornings. Plenty of hot water too for the showers. We also went for a meal downstairs in the restaurant. Food was fantastic. Black out curtains were great! Overall it was a brilliant place to stay overnight. Thankyou.
Review 36:Layout is confusing - it took us a while to find reception which is located in the restaurant. We ate in the restaurant and although the food was good, it was empty and lacked atmosphere.
Review 37:Great central location for Stirling shops and castle. Lots of free parking and we were able to leave the car in the car park after checking out.
Review 38:The lighting was very poor. You couldn't see to put your key in the door. It was very noisy there seemed to be an electric motor that cut in all through the night. The bathroom needed another mirror rather than just the shaving mirror.
Review 39:The room was spacious.
Review 40:Room 1 had two strange waredrobes in which some engines were making noise time to time. It wqs a pity because the room was nice and beautiful
Review 41:Location.
Review 42:No well defined reception area. It is within the restaurant. Focus seems to be on the restaurant with the hotel secondary to the restaurant business.
Review 43:The room was large & comfortable. The bathroom was also large & well equipped. Location was good for walking around city center.
Review 44:Bed a bit hard for me. Had to log in to wi-fi one for upstairs and one for downstairs
Review 45:Location, cleanliness, very helpful staff they could not do enough for you, excellent food.
Review 46:Nothing, some might feel it is a bit noisy but there is not much traffic in Stirling, so not a problem for us at all.
Review 47:Good location close to town centre and supermarket and easy walk to the castle (uphill but OK), free parking, good newly renovated rooms with large bathroom and a lift too.
Review 48:The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Great fresh feel to the hotel, bar and restaurant. Will definately return as only stayed for one night due to travel.
Review 49:The only single negative comment is the mattress, which was far to firm for me, which I mentioned when checking out & was told they were looking into this.
Review 50:Excellent location, nice spacious bedroom & bathroom, very clean. Tasty shortbread a nice touch with tea & coffee facilities in bedroom. Good breakfast, pleasant staff.
Review 51:Hotel located next to a huge crossroad. You wouldn't expect that when you look at the picture. A bit noisy in the evening (music from the piano bar).
Review 52:Large rooms, very well equipped and clean. 5 minutes walk from the city center. Parking places available. Standard breakfast. Very good restaurant.
Review 53:Very hard mattress. Cleaning and maintenance level is not the highest level
Review 54:Very good restaurant for dinner and breakfast. A modern hotel with a good location and wide rooms good parking place
Review 55:The bed was too hard to sleep on for the 4 of us. Too much noise from outside. The curtains to keep the light out.
Review 56:The interior of the room nr 4, nr 5 was less. Dinner, nice and friendly. The pancakes.
Review 57:The most uncomfortable bed and pillows and the traffic noise from the street made for a poor night's sleep. The Room was very dark. The bathroom had cracked floor tiles and the shower had black mould in the corners.
Review 58:Friendly Staff Large Room On-Site Parking
Review 59:There was free WiFi, but it tended to go off in our room so we had to keep stepping our in the hall to reconnect.
Review 60:The contemporary rooms and dining room were very attractive and the food good and breakfast plentiful: buffet of cereals, fruit and juices, then an additional menu to order main courses from.
Review 61:My booking promised breakfast, but breakfast wasn't included. Also, the wifi didn't work in our room.
Review 62:The room was lovely and the restaurant food was excellent.
Review 63:Although tasteful, the decor un the bedroom was very dark with poor lighting. Due to this, we didn't want to spend time in the room.
Review 64:It was in the city centre. A minutes walk to the shops and castle. Bar and dinning area were very tasteful in style. Staff were pleasant. Breakfast was very nice too.
Review 65:The night porter seemed unhappy at havin to let us in at 12:30, it felt as if it was a problem for him.
Review 66:The location of the hotel was very central. The food was good.It was a clean modern hotel.
Review 67:the bed was so hard you would have been as well sleeping on the floor! no shower gel or conditioner. When you pay £135 for a night you expect the room to be top quality
Review 68:the food. dinner was wonderful and so was breakfast
Review 69:Although I like a firm bed, the mattress was too hard, old windows with no fixings, hence they rattled with the wind. A loud pump or generator of some sort which must have been below our room and came off and on most of the time.
Review 70:Dining area, room facilities.
Review 71:We came in around 10:30 at night from diner and the doors were all locked with a a note in a window telling us to call a phone number to get in. Being travelers from abroad, we did I not have a phone to call from. We stood in the rain for a while before figuring out how to call.
Review 72:Modern hotel and rooms. Great location and value.
Review 73:Bed was possibly a bit on the hard side but it wouldn't put me off booking again.
Review 74:Everything as good as you'd hope but the shower was truly outstanding. Also, double room was larger than usual.
Review 75:My husbands eggs (at breakfast) both days (poached & fried) had hard yolks. He did not say anything ,at time , because it embarrasses me.Also think two slices of bacon would have been more acceptable than one . Position of property not very pretty being next to major roundabout & shopping precinct .
Review 76:Room was really modern with very good quality furniture & fitments. Both bedroom & bathroom were spotlessly clean. Staff were lovely. Evening meal in restaurant was delicious & staff were again, lovely.
Review 77:Nothing
Review 78:Everything from the staff reception to the bar and room were fantastic. Great huge room spotlessly clean with all facilities. Amazing bathroom too. Would reccomend highly this placeis great.
Review 79:Great room, very large and comfy bed, lovely bright bathroom with full size bath and separate shower. Staff very friendly and helpful and food in restaurant excellent. Lovely surroundings and handy for shops, castle, town centre etc. 15/20 minute walk through the centre/shops to reach castle from the hotel.
Review 80:Bed was a bit stiff, pillows flat, music from downstairs carried up into the rooms above (had to call twice to get them to turn it down to a level where we could sleep; was told there was poor insulation in the ceiling where the speakers were located, which allowed the sound to be heard in the rooms).
Review 81:Nice staff, room was very clean, and food was well-prepared and exceptionally good.
Review 82:staff need attention to detail. lack of communication, and slow breakfast really let the hotel down. Breakfast was disappointing.
Review 83:I enjoyed that there was only 8 rooms, and they were lovely and big.
Review 84:Did not like the beds in hotel, matresses are very hard. Could constantly hear music beats from the restaurant and bar underneath rooms. Booked a meal in hotel restaurant for dinner and it was not good. The prices in retaurant were not cheap either. Hotel was not worth the money paid.
Review 85:I liked the location. We were near the centre which was nice. Hotel was placed pretty central to everything.
Review 86:The room was very cold when we arrived, the bed was the hardest Ive ever tried to sleep in and even though the hotel was very quiet (we were the only guests) the music from below in the bar could still be heard. Oh and dont say you want breakfast the night before and then decide you dont want breakfast in the morning because you will be charged for it anyway.
Review 87:The restaurant food was good and the waiter was nice. Thats it though.
Review 88:The only fault I had was the mattress was so hard I woke next morning I felt like I had surgery on my two hips but my wife was ok with this but the level of service we encountered made up for this and I look forward to visiting this hotel again in the future
Review 89:myself and my wife stayed at this hotel for the one night the menu was great and the food itself even better all in all we had a great time
Review 90:There weren't any major highlights that I can think of, other than this hotel is extremely overpriced. Plus there was some really gross gunk on the shower head.
Review 91:The location is the only pro.
Review 92:I have no complaints about my stay
Review 93:This hotel is close to the city centre of Stirling. The rooms are large and modern. The bathroom had a seperate bathtub which was lovely for a soak after a long days shopping. There is wifi in the rooms and in the bar which is useful for guests. The bed was large and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is amazing. We travelled as a group of friends for my husbands birthday and our every request was accomodated. This hotel and its staff are oustanding and we will be staying again in the future. Thankyou for making our weekend very memorable
Review 94:Lovely spacious rooms and a great restaurant with excellent food. Well stocked bar good cocktails and the bar staff could knock up a decent martini. All in all we really enjoyed our stay and will be back. Excellent breakfast also.
Review 95:Noise from traffic was extremely intrusive especially early in the morning. Double glazing would reduce this noise to a tolerable level. Even listed buildings can have double glazing fitted.
Review 96:Some hairs in the bath plug hole but it wouldn't put me of staying there again
Review 97:Easy to drive to Free parking Good location 5 min walk from the Albert Hall Night porter because we returned back to the hotel after 1:30am
Review 98:We stayed Monday 3rd November for two nights. The hotel is in a brilliant location in the centre of Stirling. Literally a 5 minute walk to the shopping centre, and a 5 minute drive to Stirling Castle. The hotel is a beautiful building with large rooms. Everything you needed in the rooms. We had breakfast included which was lovely. The staff were all polite and helpful. Would recommend staying here to friends and family. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Review 99:The mattress was a bit hard for our liking but appreciate others would find it ok. Could do with improving the signage from the car parking to reception.
Review 100:Staff were good. Food was very nice. Room was a good size.
Review 101:Food in restaurant nice, tho I did find hair in my starter! I told waitress but she wasn't that apologetic. Portion size not massive but enjoyed what we had.
Review 102:Nice stay, I got good deal by booking so far in advance.
Review 103:Friday night could hear the music from the bar till 12.00 and location is on a roundabout. Perfect for business/weekend traveller but maybe not an exhausted traveller just wanting sleep
Review 104:Excellent large and confortable room
Review 105:there was no check in process, or even a reception. Someone form behind the bar found me a key and told us to go to the room?? we had to ask for toast with the breakfast which I found strange, also other guests we spoke to also found this a bit odd. other little things were missing from the experience that would have been easy and cheap to solve, with just a little thought. overall a very nice hotel well thought out and planned, but it appeared the customer service element was missing, and just a little training for the staff would make the whole thing that much better.
Review 106:The rooms were very big and comfortable and well presented and clean. there was very little to fault and the whole building was in the same standing. the bathroom was excellent and the fittigns and furniture were of a high quality.
Review 107:Breakfast buffet could have been better
Review 108:Staff were nice and friendly and extremely helpful. There was a problem with the heating in our room and when we asked for a heater the manager actually went home and took a heater from her house for us. Fantastic service
Review 109:Reception was very strange set up. when we arrived we could not find it, it was really the restaurant reception.. Lights at bedside were faulty and although a very nice lady tried to fix, they remained faulty our whole stay.. also the overall feeling was a bit cold and not welcoming
Review 110:The location was good for access to shopping.. The room was warm, the bed and pillows very comfortable.
Review 111:Restaurant music came up through floor Photo has been taken creatively showing hotel as possible rural
Review 112:Restaurant on site Small hotel Big room great wifi Refurbished
Review 113:Hard bed, poor wi-fi in the room in the evening - it worked in the morning though. Noise from traffic during the night. Secondary glazing would help reduce that.
Review 114:Lovely room, large bathroom, helpful staff, very good breakfast. The room was ready when we arrived at 10.45 so we were allowed to check in early, which was a great help. There was no TV remote in the room but the staff sorted that out in the evening. they also tried to help with the wi-fi.
Review 115:The staffing levels in the restaurant were inadequate and, in my opinion, detract from what was a great stay. The hotel needs to put this right to maintain good reviews.
Review 116:Food was excellent. Location and parking facilities also very good.
Review 117:The Hotel is not a Hotel, it is a restaurant with some rooms upstairs. Loud music from the restaurant until 22:30. Breakfast 7-9. Bathroom (shower) was not clean.
Review 118:The Hotel is located 2 min walk from the city center. free parking right beside the Hotel.
Review 119:Beds were very hard. I was staying with 5 other people and this was the only complaint
Review 120:Loved the location, restaurant was excellent, breakfast very nice.
Review 121:Location was excellent almost in the town centre (5 Min walk). Parking facilities were also excellent. Room was well equipped and comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly.
Review 122:Probably not ideal for a prolonged stay as it is more a bar/restaurant without a comfortable quiet residents lounge - other than that, we were very happy to stay there.
Review 123:Very large rooms on top floor. Large bathroom with bath & good shower. Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast menu. Good location and fairly quiet on edge of town next to Waitrose retail park and Thistle shopping Centre. Great for a short stopover in the very vibrant and interesting town of Stirling,
Review 124:Noisy location. Busy roads surrounding whole building. Finding the reception.....good luck with that! No information about breakfast times and that it's advisable to book your evening meal as the public dine in high numbers there. Every plug hole in the bathroom was poorly draining. Was showering with water lapping up towards my ankles.
Review 125:Modern facade. Rooms large and spacious. Very central location. Only a few mins walk to the city centre, train station and bus station.
Review 126:Bed was very hard though in saying that I realise this is a personal preference So unfortunately didn't sleep much. Lift sounded like it was about to break down.
Review 127:Staff very helpful meals were great and very reasonable. Everything was spotless
Review 128:tried to charge us again for room that had been paid for, bit embarrassing when people around us
Review 129:good staff, good food although a little pricey, lovely and clean
Review 130:The fittings in the bedroom were loose and the shower had dirty grouting and mould in the corners. Also I sat in the bar for 2.5 hours and the same dirty glasses were on the bar.
Review 131:The size of the room The food and service.
Review 132:Grant was extremely helpful - he found me a dentist for an emergency dental problem. Everything was great - the breakfast was very good and our room was huge.
Review 133:very noisy lift. Breakfast service a bit disorganised and could be improved upon.
Review 134:Exceptionally large room with huge en suite. Very comfortable and clean and hotel very centrally located. Staff very friendly. food very good and good value for money. Would definitely stay again.
Review 135:Noise, noise, noise. Located on a busy roundabout, with only singleglazing and above a bar & restaurant that constantly plays music ifyou want a good quality hotel where you might get some quiet don'tstay here!Photograph of hotel is very misleading and the hotel is very ordinary. Breakfast - to save time rather than ordering from the menu simply ask what is still available from the menu. Whilst there some guests checked out and went to the neighbouring superstore supermarket for breakfast rather than stay in the hotel for the breakfast already paid.
Review 136:Room not clean, Toilet seat broken off, reported, but not fixed by second day. Changed our room. Breakfast was very poor, no toast. Dinner was tasty but waited 40 minutes. Not clued up on tourist information. Loud music from restuarant below.
Review 137:Our only concern was the broken hair dryer, but that was replaced as soon as we asked for a new one.
Review 138:The space available in our room was a refreshing change from most hotels in the UK. And everything was in excellent condition.
Review 139:Stayed during Commonwealth Games great room and breckfast friendly and very helpful staff. Would have liked a small fridge in room to keep things cool( was hottest time in Scotland for years) Would recomend to everyone.
