Reviews for Tregenna Castle Resort
Review 1:The ambience in the restaurant at evening and also the bar if honest felt uncomfortable as it was so quiet but I put this down to out of season.I did want to eat as it came recommend but I opted to go into town. The spa I'm only hoping is going through a refurbishment as again if honest very old worn and grubby for me not enjoyable but it wouldn't deter me from coming back.
Review 2:View's are amazing as well the grounds are beautifully maintained the room was of a high standard shower was lovely and the bed so comfortable we stayed in room 104. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.
Review 3:the leisure facilities were not nice and were dirty. bathroom in our room clean but could do with a update
Review 4:warm welcoming and great surroundings. room very spacious and warm. evening meal and breakfast was great and staff very attentive
Review 5:No bad experiences. You have to have lived in Cornwall to understand but Tregenna is very Cornish.
Review 6:St.Ives is one of the most fantastic coastal locations on this planet and Tregenna has an enviable position overlooking the whole of the town and harbour. It's not posh or particuarly well decorated but it's homely and has that lived in feeling. This is about our 20 eth visit so we know it well, worts and all.
Review 7:Room was too hot to sleep, evening meals were expensive, would have been nice if hotel could have done a menu deal
Review 8:Beautiful hotel and polite and helpful staff
Review 9:We didn't like that fact we had to eat in the main hall, didn't realise the brassier closed art 6pm, mentioned it to a staff member and we were told that lots of people have complained on trip advisor, not a good start to our day. Our room was also far too hot and due to the condensation on our windows in the morning a view of the sea was a waste of time.
Review 10:We liked the location.
Review 11:The room for 155pounds was not worth that value, the bed was uncomfortable, you could do with a more relaxing seating area in the bar rather than hard seats
Review 12:Restaurant
Review 13:Lounge bar tv showing sport all night, creating no ambience, very few guests using on a Saturday night maybe because of this. A real shame because its a nice bar with really friendly staff.
Review 14:We just love St Ives so this is perfect place to stay with outstanding views. Fab breakfast too.
Review 15:The door locks were a little low. And the elevator might need a service... its a bit jolty.
Review 16:The family room was very spacious and very comfortable. The staff were very welcoming and accomodating.
Review 17:This was our second stay at The Treggena Castle. Fabulous place, close to the beach and town. Staff were faultless right down to the chamber maids. We will be back.
Review 18:Nothing I didn't like
Review 19:Hotel was great. Staff were attentive nice & friendly .food was fabulous and a lovely comfortable big bed. Use of spar facilities were great and even had a massage which was excellent .thankyou treggena for taking care of us .
Review 20:The room was very dated and the pool wasn't pleasant as it felt dirty and was very dated...the hot tub was cold too
Review 21:The hotel reception area/bar look nice
Review 22:Our room was very disappointing, view of brick wall and pipes, bathroom tired looking and basic. We complained and were up-graded to a much better room with sea view. However, there was a connecting door to the next room which meant we could hear every sound they made. Shame but fortunately we didn't spend a lot of time in the room . Generally, hotel is in need of some loving care.
Review 23:House keeping were really good and hotel was spotless. Staff were friendly.
Review 24:We thought that the swimming pool was a great addition to the cost of the stay but thought that the changing rooms could have been much cleaner.
Review 25:Had a lovely few days despite the weather. Hotel was wonderful. Great location and close enough to the town to walk. Glorious grounds and plenty to do. Excellent food and service for Carvery on a Sunday and at breakfast. Great price, excellent room and facilities within the room and very good service. Well worth it.
Review 26:Booked double & twin room: but only 2x double available on arrival which could not be rectified: that's poor given children are boy & girl aged 12 & 9 so sleeping arrangements compromised. Rooms not together as requested either. Rooms very dated feel, & dingy/dark in contrast to other rooms. View: what view? a blank wall opposite & a dank tiny courtyard. Cobwebs in corners & décor rather 'tired.' No towel rail heater in either bathroom. Breakfast service non-existent although plenty of staff folding napkins. Croissants stale on both mornings-like eating dead sea scrolls. Astonishing 'get your own tea/coffee' from a machine of inferior quality (garage coffee better) & carpet in dining room not vacuumed-crumbs/detritus everywhere (AM 26/10/15). Very good marketing but the experience/facilities just didn't match up: management needs to review, clearly. No wifi in rooms but in main area only.
Review 27:Public spaces modern, airy, welcoming. Pool, gym facilities welcome bonus. Spacious grounds & good location. Cooked breakfast OK but let out too long for self service & gets cold quickly. Bed very comfy.
Review 28:The property has aged a little on the inside with minimal modernisation of our room and bathroom. There was little attention to detail such as sufficiently stocking the room with toiletries and how the bed was made.
Review 29:Good location and breakfast.
Review 30:Very dated Asked for a room with view as 2 special occasions, not even mentioned, room very dated, hole in sheets, paint peeling, wall for a view! Bought a bottle of wine at bar & asked for a cooler to be told NO as they busy with another function (wedding)!
Review 31:Location some staff very polite Facilities Breakfast nice but fried eggs swimming in grease
Review 32:The rooms are spacious but incredibly dated. The heating setting are all wrong....It was freezing at night and in the morning...For my 4 month old son and 4 year old son, it was not good!
Review 33:customer service and food was excellent
Review 34:Scruffy Bar Manager Noise outside our room in the middle of the night. Took two calls to reception to sort out.
Review 35:Beautiful room with super views over St Ives Lovely food in Brasserie
Review 36:If you are travelling alone and want to meet people this isn't really a place to do. Very nice staff and location but for me a little bit posh which is a plus point for some. Uh, and take a taxi to get there if you have heavy luggage.
Review 37:Everything was perfect.Had a room without a view but didn't mind at all as from the luonge terrace you could see everything. It is on top of a hill but the way up is magical with the tiny waterfall and threes, flowers.
Review 38:We found the breakfast menu rather dull and limited. Would have liked to see less tinned fruit, and the addition of croissants & chocolatines (not just bread) and also cereal toppers (nuts, dried fruit, seeds etc). Shower very ineffective.
Review 39:Sea view, comfortable large room with sofa and adequate bathroom. Good dinner menu.
Review 40:Rooms are "tired" but spotlessly clean
Review 41:Excellent location - best in the South West. Superb grounds, rooms a but dated, but it didn't matter as the hotels location is superb!
Review 42:Blooded sanitary bags in the room on arrival. Damaged bath and sink £139 per night for a disgusting damaged dirty room. Very disappointed and will NEVER stay again. No room service when stated in manual it was.
Review 43:The area of St ives is beautiful, shame about were we stayed.
Review 44:Lack of Wifi - while did not spoil the stay i would recommend the hotel plans to install in the bedrooms rather than you just sit in the reception area which is a bit old hat these days.
Review 45:Excellent location set in large grounds with stunning views over St. Ives. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Stayed Half Board. Great evening food with more than ample portions. Buffet breakfast was excellent. Paid extra to have a room overlooking the bay.
Review 46:slept bad both nights although the bed was comfortable but the room was stuffy and airless despite the window being kept open. The top window would not open as it appeared to be broken. Breakfast was not great, neither was the service for this.
Review 47:Loved the setting and the grounds. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 48:Bathroom could have been improved. Mould on tiles and surround of bath. Silicon around taps badly done. Shower hoze needed further cleaning, build up of mould.
Review 49:Beautiful grounds. Within walking distance to town.
Review 50:Some areas of the hotel are a little bit dated and could do with a bit of sprucing up, however this didn't impact my stay - just an observation.
Review 51:Reception staff extremely helpful - even gave recommendations, guidance and directions to a few good local restaurants.
Review 52:Not really bad but perhaps the hotel could put on a shuttle to and from town.
Review 53:Location great b- good views, absolutely lovely well cared for gardens. The golf course is only a par 3, but great fun with one hole the 11th I think one of the prettiest I have ever seen.
Review 54:The bed was surprisingly uncomfortable and rolled away at the edge. Had a poor night's sleep.
Review 55:Lovely location, very friendly and helpful staff Great meal in the brasserie service very good.
Review 56:The setting, the facilities and general ethos of the Hotel were all excellent and we could not find fault with anything during our recent stay. Well done Tregenna Castle Hotel
Review 57:Staff were not overly helpful or friendly, room advertised on websitewas clearly and upgraded newer version, the one we received was old, cramped and tired - very overpriced for what we received and verydisappointed
Review 58:Loved the gym and badminton available, alongside the pool greatfacilities
Review 59:Waiting for a long time for hot water! Hotel felt more like a conference centre. Needs a more comfortable bar and restaurant. No one on reception desk - had to call for attention.
Review 60:Great location. Nice grounds
Review 61:Restaurant! We were forgotten. Long wait for drinks (35 min +) and over 1 hour for main meal. Overheard other guests complaining later in public areas at later times.
Review 62:Excellent Location, friendly staff, beautiful grounds, swimming pool sauna and steam room, large clean bedroom, free wifi and parking and excellent breakfast.
Review 63:The size of the room was not relative to the amount charged.
Review 64:The location was extremely good with wonderful views. The staff were friendly and helpfull. The food was of a high quality.
Review 65:No hot water ! Very dated and small room ! Very noisy walkways and stairs right next to your room !
Review 66:Beautiful place and grounds ! Staff very friendly ! Breakfast lovely
Review 67:It is a long and steep walk back from the town. There seems to be no public transport to connect to the town.
Review 68:The traditional building and the gardens are lovely. The facilities are good
Review 69:The most uncomfortable bed we have ever slept in, bathroom needed ripping out and replacing a cracked and dingy.
Review 70:Beautiful grounds and view overlooking St Ives bay.
Review 71:The shower could have been better.
Review 72:We had a lovely big room, the food at breakfast was very tasty & the meals we had at The Brasserie were brilliant with a lot of choice. The grounds of the hotel were beautiful.
Review 73:Room damaged and outdated would not have a bath as it looked dirty.breakfast was cold as we were first down you would expect it to be hot esp as we paid 9.50 for the experience.
Review 74:The veiws were fantastic and the staff were very helpful.
Review 75:Need to up the wifi - not all rooms get it. A soap dish or shelf would be good in the shower.
Review 76:I was so surprised by the delicious dinner meals. Excellent!
Review 77:On the first floor the carpet was very thread bear. Very expensive.the swimming pool shut to early every evening.if you went out the back door to car smokers were standing right by door as you went out cigarette buts outside back door in a large ash tray. They need to spend some money on keeping items like the carpets updated especially as they over charge you in the summer months.
Review 78:The location and the grounds loved the swimming pool. The large chairs in the foyer, the breakfast.
Review 79:The swimming pool facilities were very poor. Changing rooms were small and showers were very dirty. The pool itself was in the conservatory area and the roof was leaking. Pool is also small with alot of cracked titles
Review 80:The location was good and staff were friendly
Review 81:WiFi poor, sometimes unavailable. It's essential requirement these days.
Review 82:Excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed. Good indoor pool and other leisure facilties.
Review 83:The only thing are room number 88 had a very small bathroom and no view out of windows. If we had been staying longer we would have asked to move.
Review 84:The staff were so helpful and friendly and the location of hotel was great. Such lovely views.
Review 85:room 93 the view was appalling which is important to an elderly couple who spend more time in rooms, we did know that it was not a sea view but this wall awful extremely disappointing
Review 86:the grounds, staff friendly and helpful location to town
Review 87:The view from the room, looking out onto the very dirty roof with the reception sky lights ( room 93 ) on all night, the black out roller blind did not stop the light coming into the room all night, no curtains.. An understanding member of staff gave us a different room . we realise we did not pay extra for a sea view but the view of a dirty roof was not expected Accessing the pool through the gym and being asked to pay 50 p for a small towel to use in the pool? I had to get changed in the toilet as no private changing cubicles.
Review 88:The location perfect for a walk into St Ives , the building , the views, the lovely service given to us by Andy who helped us change our room and the maitre 'd who rectified some poor service.
Review 89:We were ones in restaurant after 9 (on a Friday night) - no atmosphere and felt a bit rushed to leave
Review 90:Castle is amazing. Food at restaurants for evening meal and breakfast was probably some of best foods I've ever eaten!!
Review 91:My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel beautiful setting fantastic breakfast and we enjoyed using the leisure facilities. The room was a good size lovely hot shower and a comfy bed.
Review 92:The room was dated and needed updating to contemporary expectations. No iron in the room, furniture was in need of refurbishment or updating.
Review 93:We liked the look of hotel and location, ground floor facilities are good. View from top floor east wing rooms are brilliant.
Review 94:Room had dated decor. Shower wasn't very powerful. I understand it is an old building though.
Review 95:Good location, lovely building and grounds. Breakfast very nice. Bed very comfy.
Review 96:Zero customer orientation (especially from the management), no flexibility from staff. Poor service. Room not cleaned. For a hotel this expensive you expect good service - just received excuses when raised excuses and told it was my fault expectations weren't met because I booked online.
Review 97:view
Review 98:My room was positioned above the kitchen which made our room very hot Staff at reception were not helpful and did not tell us when and where breakfast would be served and we only found out information when we asked and even then it was like getting blood out of a stone I needed to clean the bath before my baby got in it as it was filthy
Review 99:Resteraunt for lunch and evening meal was lovely and the staff that worked in there were amazing Food was amazing Hotel gardens were beautiful and make a lovely evening walk
Review 100:Bed was well worn (soft) made uncomfortable sleeping.
Review 101:Good location, only short walk to town centre. Set in nice well kept grounds. Nice breakfast, friendly staff.
Review 102:The hotel is run down and bedrooms particularly are scruffy, bathroom in poor condition and unhygienic and beds uncomfortable and overall very rundown poor condition. I think that the hotel gets away with it because of its location. I wouldn't recommend to friends and family to stay here. Also when weddings take place, hotel residents are overlooked and forgotten
Review 103:Location is fabulous plus grounds are very spacious
Review 104:A little disappointed with our room, it was quite 'tired' looking. Although we did only pay for a standard double.
Review 105:Beautiful setting, excellent location. Wonderful staff. Will definitely return.
Review 106:The shower had a mind of it's own and the bath must've come from a medieval castle.
Review 107:A fabulous place, it can't be faulted for the price. The views are breathtaking, the grounds stunning, the location perfect, the staff super friendly and helpful, I can't gush about it enough.
Review 108:Had not realised what a huge resort it was and being summer holidays everything was very busy with lots of children. This was my own fault because I should have researched better. The double room was 2 beds pushed together which was a bit rubbish and the jacuzzi was cold. Also felt the pool wasn't very clean. All in all a disappointing stay
Review 109:The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for you
Review 110:Although the hotel provided a good range of facilities including badminton and tennis, we felt some facilities, particularly the indoor pool, sauna and steam room, looked very tired and weren't well maintained which was the only thing that let the place down.
Review 111:Absolutely stunning location, friendly staff, excellent menu for evening meals and very comfortable rooms.
Review 112:Wi-FI doesn't work good; bath tub pretty old (it wouldn't be a big problem itself, but it turns out to be once you pay your room a lot of money)
Review 113:Great staff and position.
Review 114:The hotel infrastructure was tired and badly needed modernisation. Decor was scruffy and worn and there was an unpleasant smell throughout all public areas unless they were sufficiently well ventilated. Rooms were extremely hot with no AC installed or fan provided. Gym and swimming facilities were small and therefore massively oversubscribed and had a feeling of being like a public baths. Wifi, whilst free, was patchy and not stable.
Review 115:Good location. 10 minute walk to St Ives town. Grounds were lovely, well tended and extensive.
Review 116:Internet access awful. No mobile access either. Wouldn't recommend to someone who needs to access email or trying to fit in some out of office work
Review 117:Location, food was good
Review 118:It is not the fault of the hotel, as they cannot be held responsible for the behaviour of guests, but please note if you like a quiet life this hotel is not for you. There seemed to be some sort of constant competition to see who could slam a bedroom door the loudest, at any time of the day or night. There is only one restaurant here and it is quite small so you must book, but again be prepared for lots of noise, as there are constantly babies and small children in it screaming and carrying on, even really late at night, so you never get any peace. Wi-fi is an absolute joke. It never worked and even though reception received constant complaints about it, it did not get better. When I was at reception on one particular occasion a man was checking out and questioned why he had been charged £7 for the restaurant when he had never set foot in the place. It was removed from his bill immediately, without any quibble. When I checked out I had been charged £7 for the restaurant twice, and when I questioned it both charges were removed straight away. Check your bill carefully!
Review 119:I knew when I booked that my room was non-sea view. After an 11 hour journey to reach Tregenna I had been allocated a huge room with a fantastic sea view. I could not believe my luck. The hotel was lovely and had excellent facilities available. Staff were outstanding and nothing was too much trouble for them. The grounds are stunningly beautiful. There is masses of on site parking. The hotel is very professionally run.
Review 120:The maintenance of the place let it down - in the bedroom, the chairs and bed frame were practically broken. In the spa the water fountain and ladies taps weren't working, the sauna wooden slats were breaking, and the pool was very cloudy.
Review 121:We absolutely loved the view, the space, and the staff were fantastic. It was great to have so many free facilities too. The bathroom looked brand new and the toiletries were very nice.
Review 122:Couldn't open hotel bedroom window - sill was pegged at limited opening, probably for child safety as well as to keep out wild birds (they ask you to close windows when out of room to stop bird entry) but room was stuffy on hot days (and no air con which we didn't mind at all - just wanted to be able to throw open the window).
Review 123:Fantastic seaview location, lovely grounds & plants, walkable to charming St Ives & excellent Tate gallery. Staff great - charming and helpful, Brasserie food delicious. Indoor pool lovely and warm.
Review 124:The hotel rooms and bathroom are dated, along with the leisure facilities. I expected these to be a bit better for the price.
Review 125:The location is ideal. The grounds are lovely and the view of St Ives is great. Just a short walk down to the beach and into town.
Review 126:Received a phone call that there was smoke coming from our bedroom. This was clearly no reason fro this accusation as we are both non-smokers. This call was unnecessary and a distraction. Generally maybe not the ideal place for young couples.
Review 127:The castle is very beautiful, the gardens gorgeous, and there are various facilities. As we only stayed one night we couldn't explore all and find out about additional costs.
Review 128:Some of the rooms are beginning to look tired and need refurbishing. It's not cheap to stay here so would expect this to be seen to.
Review 129:Lovely situation just outside of St Ives. Staff lovely. Facilities good. Grounds are stunning and breakfast very good and catered for me being a coeliac without any fuss.
Review 130:We asked for a double room however had two twin beds which were uncomfortable for me and my partner. There were not enough plug sockets in the rooms as the ones which were available were unavailable due to the wall skirting. Was disappointed that the eggs for both me and my partner were undercooked at breakfast.
Review 131:Amazing view. The hotel was beautiful and had stunnung gardens. We had a sea view room which had a spectacular view.
Review 132:We had no hot water and even when we told the front desk, the problem was not resolved. Internet connection was poor as well as poor cell service perhaps because of our room location.
Review 133:I liked the atmosphere. It was like going back in time.
Review 134:staff could have been more helpful. Seemed disinterested when I made a few enquiries. Two members of staff quite rude.
Review 135:Beautiful location, lovely room, excellent breakfast
Review 136:We were 'upgraded' to a sea view room which was nice but the room itself was in an old part of the building and didn't look like it had been renovated for quite some time, we could hear everything in the room next door and could even hear the occupants above us going to the toilet! The bath looked like it was dirty but I think that this was due to the fact that the enamel has worn off as it's so old. There was no fridge in the room. The unit which held the TV was in an odd position given that you couldnt see the screen from the bed not that we were interested in watching it while we were there. overall I was disappointed to find that the hotel seemed a bit dated even down to the music being played whilst we ate breakfast.
Review 137:The location was amazing. Staff were very good.
Review 138:General appearance of hotel was dated and rooms were small and rather grubby looking. This was more due to décor than lack of cleaning, but black mould on bathroom grouting is not acceptable.
Review 139:Beautiful grounds. Polite staff. Great food in the brasserie.
Review 140:The standard of decoration could be improved and the bed was probably due for replacing.
Review 141:The location is excellent, over looking St Ives amidst beautiful gardens. Use of tennis and badminton courts, spa, golf course
Review 142:Although the hotel is in Beautiful grounds, we felt that it is focusing more on the Lodges and holiday apartments, Hotel its self looking very tired, and dated, Lunch time menu was the same every day. Sadly lacked Atmosphere.
Review 143:Rooms were very dated and pushing scruffy. For the money we paid we expected a lot better quality. Noise on landings and other rooms very noticeable.
Review 144:Location and hotel surroundings really good! Great for children to play and swim. Breakfast and evening meal in restaraunt was excellent. Service was great.
Review 145:No hand soap at bathroom sink for hand washing.room not ready on arrival .bed 2 singles pushed together to form a double.
Review 146:Location , breakfast staff friendly.
