Reviews for Llys Meddyg

Review 1:The cooked breakfast was a bit greasy and was essentially just meat and eggs.

Review 2:We stayed in one of the loft rooms at the top of the hotel and it was beautiful. Huge, comfy bed, as well as a lovely bathroom with a big double-ended bathtub. Lovely decor inside too.

Review 3:No phone signal all weekend. Overcharged by 1 night but rectified as soon as we spotted it, with a full apology.

Review 4:A beautiful and spacious with plenty of hot water and heating. Close to the stunning coast line. The food was excellent. Staff were very attentive.

Review 5:The breakfast did not match our expectations. A very limited and uninspiring selection.

Review 6:Excellent meal in the evening - one of the best I have ever had

Review 7:Carpet in our room, very rough underfoot.

Review 8:Atmosphere at hotel, loved the cellar bar. Food was very good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Coffee was fabulous.

Review 9:Everyone really friendly and room very comfortable. Stayed in ground floor annexe, so had small seating area outside too! Breakfast and evening meal very good quality and presented beautifully

Review 10:Food was of a very high quality, but being of a nouvelle cuisine style, the size of the portions, particularly starters, was small, verging on tiny.

Review 11:Comfortable room, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, great location.

Review 12:We arrived to the smiles of the reception staff. We had booked a double standard room. But they upgraded us on arrival, a nice surprise. The food was just a taste sensation and the tastebuds thought they were in heaven. The room was outstanding and the double bath was fantastic. We will be back.

Review 13:We were in the rafters so the ceiling sloped, particularly in the bathroom, and there was danger of hitting your head when visiting the loo! The only other small problem was the pub next door (the golden lion) had a band on the Saturday night and the noise carried even as far up as our room on the top floor.

Review 14:Our room was fairly spacious with a huge double bed and a small sofa. I particularly liked the special touches such as the welsh wool throws on the bed and the luxury teas, coffees and hot chocolates. There was also a mini bar and a small jug of fresh milk. The bathroom was also very well done, with roll-top bath and a big walk-in shower. The toiletries were high quality and smelt of warm ginger. We were able to park in a small private car park adjacent to the property, and enjoyed a fabulous breakfast before leaving. We'd have loved to stay another night and enjoy the restaurant and cellar bar - unfortunately we hadn't booked ahead for a table, so couldn't get in on the Saturday night; however we found the Castle Inn just along the road where the food was delicious.

Review 15:Nothing!

Review 16:The welcoming staff were friendly and helpful: the hotel was warm, hospitable, and nicely furnished. The Chief was on leave whilst we were there in January, but there was a great pub next door - so food wasn't a problem. It really felt like a treat to stay there.

Review 17:Excellent breakfast, not just a good choice, but good quality products and well presented. We had a really warm and helpful welcome (we arrived at around 7pm on a Saturday and hadn't booked food anywhere, but they were straight on the phone for us to get a table sorted). This theme continued the next day with good suggestions of where we'd find suitable walking. The room was great also, with plenty of space and very comfortable.

Review 18:The hotel is on a busy road which can be a little noisy at night - we are quite heavy sleepers so not a massive issue but I can imagine it might annoy some people.

Review 19:The food here is amazing... Well worth a trip for that alone, however the location was perfect for exploring the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. We stayed with our 4 month old baby - the baby monitor worked in the restaurant and most of the cellar bar so evenings were easy and it felt secure and small enough to relax with our baby upstairs.

Review 20:On arrival, hospitality not as welcoming as on our previous visits. It's a busier hotel now and the bar was noisier at night. No tables available for dinner (Garden Restaurant) - option not given when booking. Also - no BBC 1 on TV - and I wanted to see Swansea City demolishing Manchester United!!

Review 21:Lovely room and ideally located. Excellent breakfast - served by a friendly member of staff.

Review 22:Loved the friendliness of the owner and the continuous courteous treatment from all the staff. Would stay there agin in the future

Review 40:The lighting in the bedroom had a dimmer switch but remained very low

Review 41:great food,good service

Review 42:The position, quirky character, nice breakfast, cellar bar...

Review 43:Nothing

Review 44:The room and the food were excellent. If you like to hike the location is perfect.

Review 45:Poor wi fi

Review 46:The good food and the friendly staff

Review 47:The whole experience was a delight. Well trained and friendly staff, owners available to tell us about local visits and lovely surroundings. Very relaxed atmosphere but clearly well organised. The food was superb and very creative, each plate a delicious work of art. We can't wait to go again so thanks to Ed, Louise and everyone who made our stay so memorable.

Review 48:Service for dinner a bit slow-didn't bother us but other customers were perplexed by delay. Cocktail person not available

Review 49:Rooms-decor and comfort. Service with a smile. Food was brilliant.

Review 50:Shabby run down appearance on entry and in most areas. Carrying heavy luggage up three flights of stairs. Unpleasant smell on entry and in stair well (Probably from carpets) Restaurant only opened a couple of nights per week. Didn't notice the bar open at all. 'Free' Wi-Fi not available at any stage.

Review 51:Breakfast quality good with efficient service. Room clean and comfortable. Shower/ hot water etc very good.

Review 52:We stayed in the garden room, it was large and very comfy. We had an excellent stay, newport is beautiful with lots of coastal walks. The food was also excellent. Ed the owner and the staff were friendly and very relaxed. We had a great time.

Review 53:Not the hotels fault but O2 network disappeared as I arrived.

Review 54:Beautiful comfortable room, friendly welcoming staff and owner. Ed is a joy. Excellent food and a reasonably priced bar.

Review 55:I love everything about Llys Meddyg. The food is superb and the decor and atmosphere is fantastic. The staff are friendly, welcoming and can't do enough for you. Newport is one of my favourite places and I love the fact that the hotel uses local products from the fillet steak to the Melin Tregwynt cushions!

Review 56:The food was absolutely outstanding - we had a gourmet dinner - and the service was friendly and efficient. We were in the annexe but it was fine.

Review 57:Bar prices are a bit steep.

Review 58:Amazingly friendly hotel staff and town. Beautifully decorated, warm & welcoming. Food was just as beautifully presented and didn't disappoint.

Review 59:Room was very small had to climb over my husband to get to bed. Only one chair to sit on so had to sit on the bed. Carpets need changing throughout the hotel very old and worn!!!

Review 60:Lovely bathroom with big and good quality towels and robes. Comfy bed and pillows

Review 61:1st room in Stable Block. Our bathroom was infested with ants and one wall had blotches of black mold. We were moved to a room in the main house. 2nd room had black mold around outer rim of shower, unable to operate bath plug, requested assistance, none provided. Coffee in Garden bar poor. Property sited on a noisy, busy main road. Housekeeping should inspect carefully and pay more attention to specific areas.

Review 62:The village setting was attractive in spite of the main road, easy access to excellent restaurants and public houses nearby.Unable to eat in restaurant, it is closed on Mondays. Hotel breakfasts good, Real coffee from bar very good. I have tried to be fair in my comments, but this was not an enjoyable experience. If asked, I would recommend this hotel to others, but only with reservation and suggest they ask for rooms in the main house, also inquire if restaurant is open to guests throughout their stay.

Review 63:The awful carpet/matting stuff - yuk, looks skanky and hurts your feet. They need to put in secondary double glazing - road noise was bad!

Review 64:The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly.

Review 65:As with so many UK hotels, no air conditioning to keep cool during a heat wave.

Review 66:Comfortable rooms, excellent food, friendly staff. Loved the bar in the old cellar.

Review 67:The rooms are not designed for business travellers as there is no deskin the room which was inconvenient as I needed to do work on my laptop. The food was lovely but very over priced and the bottle of wine cost£28!! There was no salt & pepper on the table with either breakfastor dinner and I was not offered it either so I guess you have to ask forit if required.

Review 68:This was a lovely place to stay after a long business trip. The room wasvery comfortable and clean with little touches such as fresh milk in thefridge and soft fluffy towels. The staff were very friendly and politeand I didnt feel awkward eating on my own in the bar as I do in largerhotels when on business. Overall a very pleasent stay in a lovely partof Wales and I would definately stay here again.
