Reviews for The Terraces

Review 1:(1). No hot water to bathroom sink. I mentioned it to the receptionist when we first arrived Thursday (17th) at about 15:30 and the water to the sink remaind cold throughout our stay. We left on the morning of the 19th. Oddly the water to the shower was hot. Showerhead was broken and therefore could not be adjusted for height, which was difficult for one short and one tall person. Shower room silicone sealant was mouldy. (2). All the edges of the carpet in the room were dirty. (3). Several light bulbs in the room were broken. We asked for the bulbs to be replaced and some but not all were replaced. (3). One of the breakfast staff was impolite. She did not say a word just plonked the breakfast in front of us. Our first breakfast of poached eggs was fine but on the second day the poached eggs were not fresh. I suspect they had been pre-prepared, frozen, thawed and warmed up, rendering them indedible.

Review 2:Location

Review 3:while receptionist was pleasant the reception area was messy, dull and lacked any character. There was no hot water in kids' rooms and one of the rooms smelt terribly of damp with large damp patch in ceiling. In fairness to hotel, kids were moved to another room after we complained.

Review 4:No running hot water from sink. Shower was great (electric)

Review 5:Cosy warm and clean, great location and plenty parking. Breakfast was fine full breakfast, cereals and toast, fresh juice, selection of teas and fresh coffee plenty to set you up for the day

Review 6:Breakfast was burnt and terrible when booked up was under hotel was bad B & B no hot was as boiler broken just nothing good

Review 7:Very little stayed there many years ago was good terrible now

Review 8:The boiler failed so no hot water. Only moved to a room with electric shower when we asked for reduced price. Second room tv did not work and no internet reception. No hairdryer in rooms. No fruit/yoghurt at breakfast.

Review 9:Cooked breakfast good.

Review 10:Breakfast was pitiful. Sausages burnt, both mornings. Breakfast consisted of, 2 sausages, 2 rashers bacon, beans, 1 egg & 1 piece of black pudding. Poor quality & quantity. Hotel very dated & in much need of TLC!!

Review 11:Professional, friendly & helpful gentleman who appeared to be the only chap working here!! He was attentive & assisted with issues straight away. Clean room, bedding, bathroom.

Review 12:There was nothing bad, but I would describe the accommodation as adequate. A little "tired", the mattress had seen better days, no hairdryer and no water glasses in room. Have stayed at similarly priced accommodation locally with better facilities and bigger choice of cooked breakfast. On the whole, nothing to complain about but could be better value for money. Would stay again if the price was right.

Review 13:The welcome was friendly. There was always a parking space available. The room was clean and warm and the shower was good.

Review 14:We got a family room we didn't need so put the single bed next to the double to make a nice big bed. Shower had a mind of its own whether it was going to scald you or not and there was no hand soap next to the sink which was a bit annoying

Review 15:We were away for a touristy weekend and all we really needed was a breakfast and somewhere to sleep it was a last minute booking and we got a nice hot breakfast and a quiet and warm place to sleep

Review 16:The hotel is a little tired. There was no bedside lamp in the room, no lounge area and not an awful lot of choice for breakfast. This hotel used to have a very good restaurant and bar in years gone by but is more B & B than hotel now.

Review 17:The staff were very pleasant and helpful especially the young man who helped me with the television!

Review 18:The hotel needs a complete overhaul and update. Bucket in the corridor from a leaking ceiling. Decor is tired and dated with wallpaper coming off and the carpets are a bit thread bare.

Review 19:The hosts were lovely

Review 20:This venue needs a good refurbishment. Electric plug socket having out of the wall. Water buckets in hall from leaking roof.. No access to food/drink after 6. Breakfast room clean, good selection of cereals/ cooked breakfast. This used to be a lovely hotel but is now a guest house in desperate need of upgrading .

Review 21:The location is great for town access. Station close by.

Review 22:Difficult to find so make sure you do your homework before you leave.

Review 23:Great place to stay, excellent price and location. Just stayed one night to break up a long journey and will definitely stay again. Super fast free wifi as well as a bonus.

Review 24:There were nowhere to sit and talk or wait for each other getting ready, like a lounge, or comfy area and the breakfast room was only open for breakfast. Very old carpets through out was very disappointing, felt like curtains and bed covers and cushions had not been washed for a long time.

Review 25:comfy beds large breakfast central location WC and showers excellent

Review 26:Shower was poor, bathroom needed some tiles fixed and shower held together with tape.

Review 27:In the city but on a quiet street. Lovely quality sheets and cool room, window opened. I had a great nights sleep.

Review 28:The mattress was so uncomfortable, you could feel every spring poking into your back. The walls so thin, kept awake by next door snoring! Clean bedding & towels just thrown on floor outside your room ready for staff to change bedding, so contaminated before even reaching the bed.Same with towels. Loose teabags in room not covered, who knows how many people handled them first. Breakfast tasteless even though everything was fried!

Review 29:The location was central, close to all amenities, shops restaurants, bars.

Review 30:There was nothing I did not like just a few things I think could be better.

Review 31:The location was just outside the center and was advised to go to a pub called the city walls. This place is amazing and the food was fantastic.

Review 32:No explanation as to what to do at breakfast. We had to work out ourselves, no welcome, very little interaction with staff.

Review 33:Location is ideal for walks into Stirling and it's attractions

Review 34:Looking at the pictures on the site you would think the hotel was the castle on the pictures but it's not. Also breakfast was just ok....

Review 35:Good value for money

Review 36:The room layout was unconventional and we didn't feel relaxed due to a partition which meant we felt the bed was in the centre of the room with our heads towards the door. We couldn't make a hot drink because we couldn't find a kettle...we found the cups OK though.

Review 37:Breakfast

Review 38:The guest house was very tatty... the web site pictures were very out of date !!! I would not have picked this guest house had I known How dirty and worn it was ! Not worth 3 stars.

Review 39:The location, very near the castle and center of town .

Review 40:All of it .... What an awful awful experience .. Terrible staff andhospitality ... Awful room and no hot water .... When enquires about itgot " never had a complain about it ". ..... Well you just hadbut hey !!' Breakfast awful / late / no choice /severely awful .... It's been a while since I had to experience suchbad service ... No care no attention ... Feels like we making them afavour for using their hotel .... This should be shot down asap do notuse as their are so many good b&b around stirling. Awful !!!!

Review 41:Awful ... Nothing to like about it

Review 42:The hotel is in the process of renovation of some areas so carpet on stairs not up to scratch yet.

Review 43:Excellent location Quiet room Breakfast was very good

Review 44:No lift and awkward door to negotiate at top of stairs.no toilet roll holder and several lights bulbs not working throughout property.

Review 45:Tasty cooked breakfast.

Review 46:We missed breakfast by 2 minutes and were told that we could only have a cold breakfast - of course this is our fault, but I've been places where they would make an exception, especially for two minutes. The shower wasn't particularly good in terms of pressure. The temperature was perfect, but could do with a little more 'oomph'

Review 47:The room was a nice size (Room 1), comfortable bed and nice view out onto the churchyard behind the hotel.

Review 48:Breakfast I am a coeliac and was disappointed in the fact I was not really catered for .Gluten Free Bread but had to use the ordinary toaster .which is contaminated with Gluten but was also told that the beans were not Gluten Free .which was news to me

Review 49:The rooms were clean and tidy

Review 50:Room dirty. Not enough staff. No phone in room. Water would not drain from sink. Breakfast poor. Over-priced for what you got.

Review 51:The shower. The location.

Review 52:Limited options for vegetarians at breakfast if you want something cooked. Heating can be a bit iffy sometimes.

Review 53:I like it here. I find the staff really accommodating and helpful. The room was clean when I went in it and they kept it topped up with tea and milk. The location is also great. Just outside the city centre so you dont get a lot of noise, but it's easy to get anywhere in Stirling. I've already recommended it to visiting family.

Review 54:Didn't have a cleaner or anyone to check on us, the room had damp on wallpaper, the bathroom was much nicer and more updated than original room, and a pillow case had stains on it. Also no hairdryer or shampoo just shower gel.

Review 55:The location was good. Room was decent size.

Review 56:When we sat on the bed it creaked, trying to sleep in it was a nightmare, we lay in the one spot as it was too noisy to turn around. The sausages at breakfast weren't to our liking, maybe its a personal choice but possibly offering plain pork or beef sausages is an idea.

Review 57:location of hotel was spot on and the lady on the desk and served breakfast was very pleasant.

Review 58:We were promised a simple breakfast of toast and cereal as we were leaving early. It didn't happen so we didn't get B and B despite several promises we would!!! This is a contractors' guest house not a tourist B and B !! They need to make that explicit.

Review 59:Location very good

Review 60:a carton of milk in fridge help yourself not good , jars of coffee make your own not good, several loaves of bread in wrappers not good, poached eggs overdone not good ,sausages not good, bacon quite nice.It was like a small canteen

Review 61:nothing although we were told upgrading is getting done next year

Review 62:Disappointed that it was no longer a hotel. Shower was terrible, water flow very slow. no heating on during our 2 night stay Water dripping through ceilings when it was heavy rain

Review 63:Lady on reception on arrival very helpful. Breakfast was good.

Review 64:Nothing disliked... honestly.

Review 65:Best thing was to benefit of be placed in the suites on the ground floor. Both are excellent choices (I would recommend suite #2 rather than #1).

Review 66:Smallest room ever experienced and breakfast is an experience that struggles to handle above 1/2 dozen people at once.

Review 67:The price is very competitive for the area considering B/fast is included.

Review 68:Didn't like the way it has been downgraded in terms of service - used to be nice reception and breakfast service - now part self service breakfast and more like an ordinary travelodge than a homely hotel. Disappointed as used to be a regular visitor.

Review 69:I stayed here the night before my wedding. The staff were friendly and helpful. All facilities were perfect for what I needed. Only issue I had was a leaking radiator in the bathroom, I notfied the staff and they were on it right away.

Review 70:Not the fault of hotel staff - Previous occupant left radiator on high setting so woke up at 3am very warm. Loud snoring from room next door woke me again about an hour later. Stairs carpet getting a bit frayed.

Review 71:Great central location, friendly staff and filling breakfast.

Review 72:we found the building tired and shabby and in need of attention our room had peeling wallpaper the grouting around bath required cleaning.when ever someone ran water the pipes made groaning noises as for breakfast we gave it a miss due to the state of the property

Review 73:the location to the city

Review 74:Poorly equipped bedroom (no toiletries, no biscuits, poor lighting). No atmosphere and more like a hostel than a guesthouse (milk in plastic container, no honey, no yoghurt, no fruit). No Scottish welcome. Didn't like the fact that payment taken on credit card prior to our stay.

Review 75:tired decor, did not appreciate being told the breakfast menu was on the board when I could not see it with glasses.

Review 76:Quite location, easy for town centre. Most staff very helpful

Review 77:Lost signal on TV, but with the free Wifi this didn't really affect us. They said they were getting someone out to look in to this.

Review 78:Very friendly staff, excellent location for the centre of Stirling. And not far to Knockhill for the car racing.

Review 79:Although the hotel was basic and the rooms in need of an update, they were clean and comfortable. The location was excellent as it was a short walk to the centre with lots of great bars and restaurants.

Review 80:Of the four bathroom lights, two didn't work. The desk clerk was able to replace only one of the bulbs. The bathroom fan didn't work. Both made it hard to shave. Although basically clean, the bedroom walls were marred and the wallpaper torn.

Review 81:Convenient location, pleasant & helpful staff, comfortable bed, tub/shower

Review 82:Mould round the bath was disgusting Bathroom (including toilet) was not cleaned throughout our stay Extractor did not work and there was no window so bathroom was not ventilated at all - had to purchase air freshener to make it tolerable Bed was not made daily - never experienced that in any other hotel as its usually part of the service paid for No toilet roll holder Rusty leaking pipe from radiator in bathroom which was not turned on to air towels Shower was so weak had to remove shower head and hold by hand to be able to get enough water coverage No safety mat in bath which was particularly dangerous Cups were not washed or replaced - again never experienced this in any other hotel Not much storage for clothes etc

Review 83:On arrival room smelt clean - it didn't last long though Bed was clean and comfortable Breakfast was good Convenient location

Review 84:Bathroom had only one light working, two bulbs did not work and there was no replacement available. We were moved into another room.

Review 85:Location was excellent. Mark was very helpful and kind.

Review 86:Shower was broken and the bedsheets were stained and old. Bed and pillows were uncomfortable.

Review 87:Excellent central location yet still in a quiet part of town so no noise disturbance even though it was Saturday night. Free wifi and good, generous complimentary breakfast.

Review 88:One young man doing far too much...couldnt be more helpful but being taken a loan of ( red head). Both him and other man on reception wearing jeans and informal..not a great first impression. Fab carpet and almost fab room .overall tired in places and although this was the case the young lad who served brkfst and did reception and cleaned the rooms !! More attention to detail is deffo required. Smarten up their appearance...plaster your front entrance and you would have a fab hotel with literally just off the main street location but quiet.all in all the owner could invest a bit of money and effort into staff and building.Would return and recommend as location fab..very clean...good but basic breakfast and red heads efficiency. (Sorry forgot his name )

Review 89:My room had one or two 'issues': light shade was missing on one uplighter; light above the shower was intermittent, on and off; at breakfast time, the staff were not very smiley at all and I cancelled my order for a cooked breakfast as I had been waiting at least 10mins and I wanted to continue my journey and no newspapers/magazines to read.

Review 90:Welcoming young man was helpful; had a good night's sleep; window opened!

Review 91:Decoration/furnishings a bit tired but apparently hotel is in transition so I assume this may improve. 8.30am start for breakfast a bit late for me.

Review 92:Good location for access to town and good on site parking. Generally comfortable and pleasant room view. Good shower! Pleasant staff

Review 93:Very disappointing service at breakfast. Help yourself to cereals ok but milk still in plastic bottle, bread in plastic bag and poly roll to be used as serviette. Cooked food basic but hot and tasty. Only saw one member of staff during stay who was having to cover reception and serving breakfast. Initial impression of hotel marred by litter in front car park and weeds around building. In need of some tlc which we hope it gets as location good and building had character

Review 94:Location to walk into town easily and hotel was clean

Review 95:We have stayed here before but did not realise that it had changed hands and was no longer a hotel. So we expected a lounge etc. it was all very run down, poor reception, bedroom in need of redecoration. We did not know it had changed hands until after booking. Pictures on website included lounge.

Review 96:Bed was comfortable. Room was clean. Breakfast, albeit limited choice, was cooked to order.

Review 97:we were only asked "name" as greeting the room was very basic old furnature dusty carpet some light shades missing walls scuffed and grubby en suite ok but no water after breakfast.Frontage and outside area covered in weeds front steps crumbling and littered with cigarette ends receptacle for ash overflowing.Must add no public rooms no bar no extra facillities

Review 98:the location was central and we had parking the bed linen was clean and we were pleased we were only staying one night

Review 99:Shower didnt drain: so no washing facilities in our room & in the morning toilet didnt flush as and no cold water from the tap one nite was enough for us.

Review 100:Location is excellent; staff friendly; breakfast was served hot & fresh: rooms clean & quiet.

Review 101:There wasn't anything special about the place. The room was fine, a bit dusty. The bathroom was not nice and the shower was terrible.

Review 102:It was close to the town centre.

Review 103:We could feel the springs in the bed very lumpy and they hurt, so neither slept well.

Review 104:We loved how close the accommodation was to the castle and town. Breakfast was tasty

Review 105:Generally a tired hotel/ B and B. Room had no view at all, it was clean but didn't feel like it as everything was in need of replacement.

Review 106:Not much, location is handy for town and plenty of parking

Review 107:Description said "luxury bathrooms" and they were nice but had the lowest water pressure I have ever experienced. TV was also very small.

Review 108:Easiest check in and check out ever. Room was big, quiet and clean. Good value, lots of parking and close to castle and Tesco.

Review 109:Would have preferred a few more choices at breakfast such as fruit, yoghurt etc. but cooked breakfast was good.

Review 110:The room and bed were very comfortable. Quiet location but walking distance of city centre. Friendly staff and satisfying overall experience.

Review 111:poor room, very squashed, damaged furniture and barest minimum in terms of tea, toiletries etc.

Review 112:quiet but central location and the manager had veggie sausages for breakfast

Review 113:No check in after 2100. No staff on the premises from 2100 until 0630. No hot water in the shower. Room not cleaned during two night stay. Restaurant or bar were closed. It is not really a hotel any more...

Review 114:The location, reasonably comfortable rooms

Review 115:No water in room on second afternoon told us getting he came and said 15minutes 90minutes later no water got moved to another room still no water so that the break especially since we 're celebrating a birthday

Review 116:The breakfast and location

Review 117:Description of property and facilities not accurate at all - rooms were not as in photos ! Needs to be clearer that this is no longer a hotel just a b & b - and a basic one at that ! Girl on reception very helpful however .

Review 118:Location and parking

Review 119:Does not give a good impression from the outside, which looks neglected with cigarette ends around the door and neglected flower pots etc etc. The hallways were not all that clean, but the bedroom was. There was a minimum of staff employed on reception and breakfast duties. The "boy" who was on was very very good and had an awful lot to do. Obviously minimum staff keep the price down which is good. I think it would have looked much more professional if he had been provided with smarter clothes.

Review 120:The location, the room, the breakfast

Review 121:Minor things like worn carpets,no milk jug poor shower etc it's impossible to contact any of your hotels after nine to dsy we will be late

Review 122:Staff stayed up until our very late arrival

Review 123:The front entrance steps and gardens are a disgrace. Cigarette butts and packets in and around the entry is not a good impression. Could someone re plaster the front porch floor ? Here again, broken paving is not a good look as you get to the front door.

Review 124:The three staff in reception barely acknowledged our presence. There was no map of the town available. There were many written warnings about what not to do. The entrance was marred by cigarette ends and discarded packets.

Review 125:Excellently situated for town.

Review 126:Room was comfortable but had some plumbing issues that made it difficult to use the sink. Patio seating gone as was the guest lounge. Breakfast still good.

Review 127:Beautiful location near downtown Stirling

Review 128:Our room had bare light bulbs, some pillowcases missing, and tears in the wallpaper. There are no longer any public spaces (no lounge, bar, or patio). Extremely basic breakfast with no fruit option.

Review 129:No lift and stair bannister very rickety. Not safe. Room too hot and no adjustment available. Also unable to open a window, either nailed shut or stuck with paint. Health and safety risk.

Review 130:Staff and breakfast ok.

Review 131:We stayed when Terraces Hotel was being re-branded as Lost B&B therefore I am reviewing it as a B&B even though we booked on the basis it was a hotel with hotel facilities. Location perfect for exploring Stirling / shopping. On site parking a plus. Facilities in the room were perfectly adequate as a B&B, bathroom looked new and spacious. Having a bath / shower was good, towels changed on request. Despite location and despite the fact it is an old building and fully booked it was so quiet! Based on what we paid (£168 for 3 nights) we feel we got what we paid for, thank you. However just be mindful the decor in room was in need of change, I imagine this would be addressed as part of the rebranding. The bed was comfy which is the main thing in the room. I would have liked a choice of breakfast but staff facilitated this when asked. We would stay again.

Review 132:Very. small room. Shower was a dribble of warm water. No restaurant. Reception closed at 9.00 p.m. The word Hotel was missing from the front of building. I assume they are changing it to a B&B

Review 133:Not much.

Review 134:breakfast room and breakfast very basic, more like hostel type accommodation than B&B. Different staff every day we were there. It didn't appear that there was anyone in-charge i.e. owner/manager.

Review 135:large bedroom, comfortable bed

Review 136:This was a return stay ,disappointed it's no longer a hotel ,so no bar. Poor shower, only three of the four lights worked .very poor breakfast , in much need of renovation ,glad we had only booked one night.

Review 137:Large car park

Review 138:We stayed on two different nights. The room on the first night (12) was ok and reasonable value for money on the second night we were in room 16. Again the bed was ok but the en-suite was terrible. The grouting was filthy and the shower produced barely a trickle of water.

Review 139:Good location. Room ok, bed comfortable

Review 140:unhelpful staff. unable to check in on time, after travelling for 4.5 hours, not offered any hospitality or drinks. Made to wait an extra hour. not informed of the bar closing last November. Not enough facilities at breakfast, running out of supplies. Not enough staff to serve the customers

Review 141:Good location comfortable bed and clean room
