Reviews for Monachyle Mhor Hotel

Review 1:Zero complaints

Review 2:There was nothing that we did not like! Room was perfect, especially loved the huge bath and steam room! The food was to die for!! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone

Review 3:Website had no directions/location map nor any gallery of the hotel We booked dinner for 8 and just as we were about to leave the room to come down a member of staff knocked at the door - when we answered they were walking back down the corridor - I could have understood if it was well past the booking time but our booking was for 8 and it was only 4 minutes past eight! This really irritated me but no explanation was given. At breakfast I asked for semi-skimmed milk to drink - they didn't have any so the next day I brought a pint and got sneered at when I asked for a glass to pour it into. A good hotel would have got some in for me for the following breakfasts... The toast was then burnt so I asked for it to be done again but lighter - and got given warm bread with a bad attitude. I also asked for white bread and was told that their own baked bread was the only option - nice but not everyone's cup of tea and possibly not suitable for children. The wait staff tried to be posh but weren't and didn't pull it off - all ok unless you had a question or issue at which point the customer wasn't king! The room had a lino floor which was disappointing and the en-suite was small with no bath and just a rainshower so difficult for girls if you don't want to get your hair wet (a small point I know). When I asked for advice as to the best route to get back to the airport there was no one who drove or had any local knowledge so we had to go with our own reckoning.

Review 4:Location, views Hot scones for breakfast

Review 5:I didn't really find fault with anything.

Review 6:The atmosphere was comfortable, welcoming and homely. The staff were excellent, extremely attentive, but personable and not intrusive. The food was extremely good, well presented and high quality - lots of it locally sourced too.

Review 7:We felt that the wine although excellent was overpriced

Review 8:We loved the food x We loved the staff who gave Fantastic customer service x We loved our room which was superb x

Review 9:Our room was comfortable and stylish, the hotel is in a great location with beautiful views, staff were friendly and the food is some of the best we've ever had. We even took the 2 farm dogs for a walk alongside Loch Voil.

Review 10:That we could only stay one night". Wifi can be hit and miss but probably a good thing if ine wants to get away from it all.

Review 11:Pittoresque and tranquil setting; very welcoming and helpful staff; lovely bedroom with very large bed and a 'window' to the bathroom. Food outstanding with inventive menu and locally sourced products - simply perfect

Review 12:That you had to dine in the Hotel as it is 6/7 miles up a narrow road. Driving there was not to good as you had to back up to a passing place if cars or Vans came the other way.

Review 13:the road to the hotel almost 7 km is very difficult to drive ,very narrow ,if a car comes from the other side it was impossible to pass, one has to wait or drive backwards to give way to the other car.

Review 14:very compfortable, the sorrounding beautiful, silent, very relaxing, staff very helpfull and smiling dinner was excellent.

Review 15:It was a a hidden treasure. Beautiful room, fantastic food, wonderful staff, awesome scenery. The 6 mile single lane through Balquidder to the Monachyle MHOR was tortuous the first time. Having arrived safely and settled in, the lane then seemed the perfect deterrent to keep out the hoards and protect the serenity and peacefulness of the place for ourselves! Adjectives don't suffice to describe the little hotel snuggled in the glen but we wished we could stay for MHOR!

Review 16:The staff were very friendly throughout. The food was excellent, while the view from the hotel is beautiful. The hotel location is off the beaten track but still within a reasonable distance from the cities.

Review 17:This is our favourite hotel to visit and we've been several times, so any review is seriously biased. It's pricey but always feels like value for money. Never disappoints: a special, wonderful place.

Review 18:First visit the road there was a little daunting but will definitely be back and on leaving the road was a doddle and only 1 1/2 hr from Glasgow or Edinburgh

Review 19:Amazing location friendly attentive polite staff. Room opulent indulgence but comfortable and modern. Fantastic food and drink menus. Breakfast was a dream totally perfect break

Review 20:The hospitality, the atmosphere, the scenery, the room with the view and most of all....the exceptional food. Did I mention the delicious, mouthwatering cuisine?

Review 21:Nothing to say here I loved the place and will definitely stay again.

Review 22:Amazingly good food with different menus on Fri/Sat evenings. Shabby/Chic accommodation. Relaxed surroundings with happy friendly staff. Fantastic scenery all around the hotel.

Review 23:Don't give up when you are on the 7 miles gravel road next to the lake and think you must have missed the place! You will be rewarded with nicely designed rooms, excellent food and wine! The breakfast was fantastic too and after tis you are invited to inhale the facinating nature around the place. Several hiking routes will guide you.

Review 24:Just one complaint. It was my birthday so my partner did not like to complain about her main course.Monkfish in a strong sauce which overwhelmed the delicate flavour.Almost inedible.

Review 25:the friendliness, the warmth and comfort of our room, the service and the lovely weather which you had arranged!

Review 26:Dinner was too expensive. No WiFi included or available. The audio equipment in the room doesn't work.

Review 27:Fantastic scenery, very comfortable hotel with relaxed atmosphere. Very pleasant and attentive staff. Very good food. Stylish well equipped rooms.

Review 28:The fact that other people now know how good this hotel is!! Dinner is perhaps on the expensive side, good though it was. £55 per head excluding alcohol.

Review 29:The quirkiness and individuality of the bedrooms. Tranquil setting and views Good food and friendly well trained staff

Review 30:No milk in the bedroom for a cup of tea. Lounge area and bar area were cosy but not so comfortable.

Review 31:Staff were friendly. The bedroom was over priced for the quality. The meal was excellent and good value.

Review 32:overly complex food, trying to be very upmarket with their menu's which is great for fine dining. When on holiday trying to relax you want relaxed food. Dinner was set price 55 pounds, 3 courses, too much when you just want a light bite. As it is quite a remote spot there aren't a lot of eating options nearby so you are a bit stuck unless you take your own food. Owners dogs roam the property and barked a lot at night.

Review 33:Modern facilities, well appointed rooms. Stunning setting and scenery with beautiful walks in every direction. Fiendly staff always helpful.

Review 34:We have stayed for two nights. During the second night at 1 am two dogs started to bark in the courtyard so loud I woke up. I tried to call reception but nobody have answered the phone. After few calls a land line went silent as if someboby have cut it off. No receiption for mobile phones in the area. Internet connection was lost. A perfect place to shoot a horror film. After an hour dogs apparently got tired to bark and shut up. I could not fall asleep till 4 am. Had to wake up early to get to the airport. Bad day, bad service.......

Review 35:Quirky room, beautiful country, probably the best meal we have ever had.

Review 36:Food was excellent and put together with great care. The overall experience was very relaxing

Review 37:Not at all but keep it quiet as we can't wait to go back

Review 46:Food portions minimal but sufficient enough.

Review 48:Poor rooms

Review 63:Fantastic place! No complaints. The food was superb, the atmosphere charming, the staff friendly and the views gorgeous.

Review 64:Nothing to comment

Review 65:Absolutely stunning location, great facilities and decoration, food was great and the staff friendly & professional.

Review 66:Staff, Accommodation Excellent, Food Superb.

Review 67:Unstable in-room wifi

Review 68:Location

Review 69:We had a great stay. Food was wonderful. Hotel and staff friendly and welcomming. Fabulous location and nature experience!

Review 70:The bath/shower could do with a grab rail of two for us older guests.

Review 71:From the booking experience to the welcome and onwards all was excellently hospitable. It was great to be back with the next generation of the family.

Review 72:The access road from the A84 could benefit from resurfacing in parts.

Review 73:The staff were highly efficient and friendly and appeared to enjoy their work. The food was excellent with lots of little taste surprises. The accommodation was very pleasant and comfortable.

Review 74:There was nothing we disliked We stayed under the name of Mr & Mrs J Hall

Review 75:We loved everything about the Hotel, food was fantastic, very friendly staff, amenities were good. Nothing was too much trouble. Only wish we could have stayed longer.

Review 76:Leaving!!

Review 77:The location was excellent very relaxing. The food was fantastic, and the staff were very welcoming and friendly. A fantastic getaway, will return very soon.

Review 78:The food at dinner and breakfast wew excellent. The feature room we stayed in was lovely. A really minor point but I would have expected some hair conditioner in the room. No complaints though.

Review 79:Everything. Very comfortable and stylish hotel in a stunning location, friendly and capable staff and outstanding food. Highly recommended for relaxing, get-away-from-it-all breaks.

Review 80:The very obnoxious young dark haired bar man.

Review 81:Just a very beautiful place, amazing food, rooms and scenery gorgeous. and very lovely staff with one exception.

Review 82:The bar is very small and dark. Ok for after dinner but not pre- dinner drinks. No fridge in our bedroom to cool water or wine. Three non-residents kept being served beer on the terrace immediately in front of the dining room. Not a good look and management should have stopped serving them long before they got so intoxicated.

Review 83:Beautiful location - wonderfully remote and quiet. Outstanding cuisine - a culinary heaven. Perhaps offer a high tea service to children to allow adults to enjoy their romantic dinners in peace?

Review 84:Poor WiFi. Only meal available was GBP55 per person dinner menu - much too expensive for location - there is no alternative place to go for dinner so they have you captured.

Review 85:Nice people and good service. Peaceful location

Review 86:We liked it all, fantastic! Not a single fault. The only downside is we had to leave.

Review 87:Monachyle Mhor is a little slice of heaven, nestled neatly on the side of Loch Voil. A single track road hugs the Loch side, with signs teasing you how far you still have to go, building the excitement. Then you round the final bend to find the hotel, sitting in a breath taking location. Your are greeted by friendly and attentive staff and then the room was something else!!! The decor was perfect and the facilities unbelievable. It felt like we had never actually eaten real food until we taste the offerings of the restaurant, simply amazing, i think my tongue is still tingling!! Drinks were served by a knowledgeable and attentive bar tender, with a fine selection available. Its such a beautiful and relaxed place despite every little detail being managed perfectly. Loved every second we were there!! We have already talked about when we can next go back!! Thank you Tom and the Team!!

Review 88:I enjoyed my visit but the hotel is cosy rather than spacious (which lends to its charm) and seating was limited in the lounge and bar.

Review 89:Relaxed and comfortable, not too formal. Tranquil setting with lovely views. Ideal location for hill walking. Good food.

Review 90:not staying for 2 nights and because we could not afford to stay on

Review 91:The room was amazing and could have happily spent 3 days in bed. Absolutely fantastic food and wine and will definitely be back. Beautiful scenery particuarily on the pillow next to me! Big love to the Balquhiddar Massive. Peace out.

Review 92:The bar was a trifle snug so you had to be quick. But the thing which wedisliked most was......Leaving!

Review 93:We were back home in Scotland from Australia and managed to pack thekids off with their aunt for a couple of days leaving us to explore aluxury hotel in Scotland (but just for one night) and we choseMonachyle Mhor which came recommended as were others. We were notdissappointed. The room was fantastic and the bed very comfortable. Weeven had his and hers baths in the bathroom. The staff were excellentattentive friendly and not too stuffy which we have experience atsimilar hotels. The food was the highlight though; just fantastic. Topclass keep up the good work.
