Reviews for Millgate House Hotel
Review 1:Human feces in a blocked toilet on our arrival that assistant manager thought had been cleaned! Squeeky Spring bed stead. Room 315 you heard card car park and everyone going to and fro the bar to their rooms. Heard toilets of rooms above and next to us. Was deluxe room but I'd of said it was standard. Flat screen TVs were small. Our shower head wasn't flush to the wall like other room we git moved to. Black mould on grout on bath. No toilet roll in the dispensers. Oh one of the female night staff was sleeping on lounge sofa at 5.15am when i went to walk dog. I haven't put up poo photos.
Review 2:Had breakfast in bar with dog Location Good for dogs Food was nice Manager Sharon Had extended check out due to the human excitement found in my room on arrival
Review 3:WiFi wouldn't reach to my room, bit of a problem as I'm not from the UK so didn't have mobile data. Rooms are dated.
Review 4:Clean rooms, good breakfast, good location for Newark (walking distance to everything in town), lots of car parking and friendly staff.
Review 5:Reception (Steve Pearson) rude and a "smart Alec" on arrival and unhelpful on departure, though did try a bit harder on one occasion. Bathroom tired and old fashioned in a tatty sort of way.
Review 6:Location good and hotel comfortable enough, plus most staff friendly. Cooked breakfast was good.
Review 7:A little tricky to find entrance to car park because of traffic one way system
Review 8:Excellent staff;large room;good restaurant;good location for reaching town centre on foot
Review 9:The staff couldn't do another for us meals was great management Steven welcome us and was there to talk to very nice gentleman keep up the good work if we need anything we only asked and was sorted well stay again and will recommend top hotel
Review 10:Room could have done with a face-lift tea and coffee making facilities poor only one towel in a double room, rusty waste bin in bathroom, one wall light not working
Review 11:Bar and restaurant good breakfast
Review 12:Very poor internet access, dismissive attitude of reception staff, questionable quality of draft beer, and a night-watchmen who said "You are a bit early mate" when I had the temerity to arrive for breakfast 4 minutes early.
Review 13:Reasonably comfortable room, good breakfast
Review 14:Bathroom very "tired" with terribly noisy plumbing. Switch on bedside light was so far down the cable I couldn't reach it without getting out of bed.
Review 15:Friendly reception staff with local knowledge. Very good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Review 16:Nice rooms and rite in town centre bar open when we came back from party nice brekky good service lovely owner who sorted a taxi back to train station
Review 17:Being woken @ 2.30am & being asked if we had left a tap running. Shower, although hot water came out the pressure was so poor it was hardly worth trying to use.
Review 18:Free car park & waitress served breakfast
Review 19:Rooms were very warm and unable (unwilling!) to open window at night as on ground floor!
Review 20:Comfortable and clean room, located to main high street and if you travel by train; not far from the station either
Review 21:Not enough staff, found the staff that were working had to multi task ,working the bar also servicing tables ,plus working the reception.
Review 22:The service from the staff , which was excellent with the volume of work they do.
Review 23:The room we had was rather tired, especially the bathroom, but the restaurant etc. is rather pleasant.
Review 24:Great location to see Newark - we walked to the town centre - and staff very friendly!
Review 25:rooms very sad and in need of attention, beds and linen in urgent need of updating, bathroom, toilet moved when being used, no overflow in sink and tap leaked, shower impossible to use just a trickle.
Review 26:lot of money spent in the restaurant and bar area, and food was excellent, plenty of parking although location a little difficult to find.
Review 27:Everything. Friendly efficient staff, good sized room, comfy bed, most enjoyable meal in the restaurant, delicious breakfast. Large car park, close to town centre.
Review 28:Great breakfast! We weren't going to stay for breakfast but on checking out were persuaded by staff and other guests to stay for it. Was a really good decision.
Review 29:The rooms are very dated! Not comfortable and the coffee and tea facilities in the room are disgusting, the water also tasted really strange from the tap! I actually threw up after drinking a small bit of it!
Review 30:The bat area was nice
Review 31:one of the waiters was a bit grumpy to one of my friends when she asked for a starter to be served as a main course. But it didn't spoil anything.
Review 32:Location, value, standard of rooms.
Review 33:Some of the staff where abrupt and didn't seem to have good customer service. Toilet in our room had not been cleaned, waste still in water on our arrival. Carpet in room had several holes from cigarettes and what looked like straighteners. Rooms could do with an update to match the quality of downstairs areas.
Review 34:The outside of the hotel and downstairs area was very nice and looked very modern. Bar prices where fair for city centre establishment. Breakfast was great.
Review 35:There needs to be more staff during the day I waited 10 mins to get booked in also the same person was running the bar., The bar was closed by the time we got back from the reuion. The showers were very slow and the rooms are very dark there needs to be more light
Review 36:The staff in the morning for breakfast were very happy and helpful.
Review 37:Stayed here for a wedding. Room was dirty and had a used towel from a previous guest inside. Didn't have time to call reception so I put it out in the corridor, where it remained for the duration of my stay. Breakfast was very poor, made from very cheap ingredients and served with some of the worst coffee I have ever tasted. Rude staff on both check-in and check-out. One to avoid unless you are very desperate for a room in Newark.
Review 38:Leaving was the best part.
Review 39:An executive room didn't feel like that, it was very dated, worn carpets, mismatched furniture in room and bathroom. Needs updating.
Review 40:Excellent Breakfast
Review 41:The rooms needs to be updated, new Mattress are needed and the shower was just a trickle.
Review 42:The location was very good for our needs & the staff were great.
Review 43:The bathroom really needed updating the shower was poor. We booked a double executive room but it was very plain decor, could have done with some nice cushions and pictures.
Review 44:The location was good just a short walk into the market square ,and the bar in the hotel was nice ,
Review 45:Excellent off road parking. Excellent room booking service. Good food menu and drinks service. Spacious rooms and overall good value for the money.
Review 46:The room we had was an executive. It was spacious, but tired and worn. It most definitely needed a new mattress, and the shower needs updating, we had to run around to get wet. The door stuck, and only my husband could open it. Breakfast was as expected, but my plate was dirty, left over from the last guest, and the glasses has lipstick on them. With just a bit more attention to detail and a bit of a room spruce to match the new bar, and this could be the place to go.
Review 47:Overall it was in a good location, the staff were friendly and the price was about right.
Review 48:The first room I had was supposed to be 'Executive' - it was over the car park with a single glazed window, I could hear every car arriving, the traffic noise from the street and the full detailed conversations of guests arriving in the car park. The decor of the room was straight from the 80's, complete with Bamboo bed heads, pale oak furniture and that 80's pink. The settee was such low quality with no table by it that threre is no way its presence added to the room or made it Executive. The bathroom was equally dated and the shower heads need a good descale. I found hairs on the floor and in the bath. The carpet had massive burn holes in it. I was very disappointed and we asked to be moved. The second room was better decorated and cleaner but still a little disappointing.
Review 49:The restaurant and bar area are lovely and the food was absolutely fantastic - it made up for the decor and cleanliness of the rooms. The resaurant staff were very friendly and efficient
Review 50:Shower was abysmal if you need to wash hair!
Review 51:When in Newark, always stay as great for walking into town and local facilities, with good eateries nearby. Breakfast keeps you going all day.
Review 52:The decor is seriously dated. The bathroom was the worst hotel bathroom I have encountered. It was around 30 years old with worn and damaged fixtures and fittings. I feel for the cleaning staff - it must be impossible to clean properly. It was clear they were trying their best but the owners of this hotel need to make some serious investment.
Review 53:The staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 54:There was thick dust under bed and round edges of room and back of sofa, toilet seat was wood and damaged on underside, carpets had stains and burns in them, overall quite dated in bedrooms though downstairs was lovely!
Review 55:It was quiet and friendly
Review 56:The bed was very uncomfortable. Also, each time you leave the hotel you have to turn in your key & pick it up when you get back. This isn't a problem, but the desk was rarely staffed, so we ended up standing & waiting until someone came so we could go out or come back.
Review 57:We stayed one night to go to a nearby wedding the next day, and it was a very enjoyable stay. Close to a cute downtown with great food & castle ruins.
Review 58:Short staffed on arrival. Very easy to miss the hotel. Situated in a rather odd location and main entrance is well hidden. Could do with some quality singage on the main road.
Review 59:Very friendly staff. Clean rooms but a little too hot. Good breakfast and service in the morning. Very handy location for the centre of Newark.
Review 60:A wee bit tired decor, but clean. Water pressure in wash hand basin poor, but shower was fine.
Review 61:Car park, pet friendly, friendliness, gluten free options
Review 62:Room under stairs so foot traffic rather noisy. Thin walls, could hear normal conversation from next room and toilet use.
Review 63:Central location but quiet area. Good sized rooms.
Review 64:The room was freezing. The rest of the hotel was fine but as soon as we stepped foot in the room, we were cold. The bed was very uncomfortable. There was only one bath towel and one hand towel supplied for a four person room.
Review 65:Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was great.
Review 66:The shower was connected up wrong, you had to turn dial to blue for hot and vice versa. Decor in rooms was bit dated but clean and comfortable.
Review 67:Staff were very accommodating with our 6 week old baby, allowing us to store milk in their kitchens and help ourselves to access it which was great throughout the night.
Review 68:The Bedroom / Bathroom was a little dated and tired. Very noisy from adjacent guests, walls very thin.
Review 69:The evening meal / breakfast was excellent. Well prepared and the service was good.
Review 70:Not very modern room and you could tell facilities/furniture were quite old. My boyfriend also tried to get a pint on saturday around 2pm but was sent away because they were cashing up and he went back down to see if he could charge it to the room but was refused again which wasn't very professional. The fact you had to hand your key in before leaving the premises at any time was strange although we understood the reason, we had not experienced that before and no information on the parking code, or wifi etc. was provided when we checked in.
Review 71:Nice breakfast and spacious bedroom and the bar and food area was pleasant, and there was plenty of parking.
Review 72:Tired decor. Toilet didn't flush without assistance. Some light bulbs out. Room overlooking car park on ground floor. No free wi-fi in room.
Review 73:Friendly staff and comfortable bed.
Review 74:The bedroom was a good size but unfortunately very dated, especially the bathroom. The shower wasn't very good. I didn't feel £80 for the night was good value for money I'm afraid.
Review 75:As a lone traveller it was lovely to receive a warm welcome and to be shown to my room and have my bag carried for me! This put me at my ease.
Review 76:Room was a triple which we have always booked in other hotels and it has been a double and a single. This was three singles which was weird. Decor very dated, loads of cobwebs and spider in the room around the ceiling which was horrible. Shower head flew off when turned on. We mentioned this when leaving. Would not stay again
Review 77:The location was good for us as it was near the relatives we were seeing. Breakfast was ok.
Review 78:The man who greeted us on our first night was less than welcoming. Bsthrooms need upgraded with the decor needing to be tidied up overall.
Review 79:The hotel was in a good location with some very pleasant staff. Young staff at bfast very helpful and the barman on Friday night very pleasant. Found room to be clean but basic. Fresh towels everyday and room tidied. No complaints.
Review 80:The bed was so uncomfortable I kept tossing and turning and it gave me backache after one night. I could feel the springs in the mattress! I also feel like the curtains could do with a wash. The amount of dust that collected on it wasn't good for me as I have a dust allergy!
Review 81:Staff members were all very friendly and made us feel at home.
Review 82:The bathroom was really shabby and the washbasin had a huge crack in it. The shower was poor although they have good water pressure, it had lots of limescale on the shower head and therefore didn't function well. We were on the ground floor and the car park was directly outside our window, there were no net curtains or privacy blinds. Since people were parked right up against the window it meant you had no privacy unless you shut the curtains which left you in the dark.
Review 83:It was close to town. It was quiet.
Review 84:A great stay with very helpful staff. Only stayed for one night as we were at a wedding in the area so didn't use all of the hotel facilities but what we saw, we liked. Breakfast was varied, plentiful and delicious!
Review 85:Breakfast staff in particular were not very welcoming or helpful. The rest of the hotel staff were wonderful, so this very much let the hotel down.
Review 86:Comfortable and large rooms, very hot shower.
Review 87:room (30) really dated, basic and the flattest pillows I have ever seen, I have thrown better away.....paid £85 and was advertised as executive!!!!!!
Review 88:bar area and breakfast room lovely
Review 89:The shower, a better shower head for more spray/water. And a mug in the bathroom for rinsing after cleaning teeth.
Review 90:The staff made us sandwiches and provided us with coffee for lunch as it was pouring with rain and as we hadn't seen each other for a year it enabled us to catch up in the comfort of the dining room without being in our room all the time.
Review 91:Staff not very welcoming apart from young lady who served at breakfast always happy and very helpful
Review 92:Room and bathroom was dirty a had to ask for it to be cleaned this was sort of done to very poor standard and no appligie was offered would not and will not stay here again
Review 93:Cant get in room till 3pm the day as gone the guy on reception to busy to get you refreshments no one else working the bar ..
Review 94:The location and the hotel
Review 95:Bedrooms and bathrooms looking in need of some updating but I believe refurbishment is being considered. Bedroom overlooked the car park therefore need some kind of blind or lace curtains to give more privacy as felt 'on show' when in the room. Did not like to have to draw the curtains during daylight.
Review 96:Room was comfortable, clean and spacious. Breakfast really good. Staff friendly. Very dog friendly which will be useful in the future as we have just bought a puppy.
Review 97:Room was very outdated & bathroom mouldy bed broken part lent up at side of wardrobe! whole place needs lots of repairs all looks very tired.
Review 98:Receptionist was very friendly
Review 99:Very uncomfortable bed Booked an executive room -didn,t get one shower would be better described as a trickle
Review 100:Nice friendly staff . Good freshly cooked breakfast
Review 101:Bathroom - throwback to the 80s in terms of floral fittings; also smelt musty, and dank because of poor ventilation. Bedroom stuffy and in need of updating only two teabags and two instant coffee sachets provided, kettle old. Bed squeaked with the slightest movement.Carpet outside the bedroom had numerous stains. Unfortunately, owing to supply & demand in the Newark area, prices seemed far too high for the quality of this accommodation.
Review 102:Friendly staff; range of breakfast choices; free, efficient wi-fi.
Review 103:1) In my room the suitcase stand swayed and creaked worryingly when I put my lightweight cabin bag on it.2) The free wifi was unusable for most of my two-day stay. Apparently there are only two routers and they are managed remotely by the owner who lives in Africa. 3) My first morning, the wall-mounted shower head fell off and I got hit in the face by a jet of water. During the day the head was 'bodged' back on with silicone sealant which looked messy and was not waterproof so small jets of of water squirted in different directions.
Review 104:Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 105:The Reception desk, which is the guests first impression of the Hotel, is absolutely disgusting. It was like a dark, unwelcoming, cramped hole. It should be re-designed and renovated to meet with the standard of the conservatory area, to give a better welcome to your paying guests.
Review 106:Friendly Staff. Lovely conservatory/Bar area. Excellent Shower.
Review 107:Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the car park. Not a problem usually, but there were no net curtains! This meant that when we started to get ready for our evening out we had to close our curtains on the bright sunshine outside.
Review 108:Excellent location, really good value for money, lovely big room with a proper sized bath!
Review 109:Had Executive room 318, ground floor, no stairs as requested, no noise so very peacful and room had a comfy sofa to relax and the bed was comfy as well
Review 110:Far too expensive. Rooms dated, dirty and too hot. Bar/restaurant in a conservatory type structure meaning they get hot too quickly. Breakfast horrible and cheap ingredients. Better value for money at travelodge.
Review 111:Difficult to find - entrance is on a side road and not obvious. Drove round the block several times to find it.
Review 112:Lovely hotel, friendly staff, fabulous breakfast. clean and comfortable.
Review 113:Bed a little hard for me but that's the same in most hotels. Porcelain fittings through gave a very old-fashioned feel. No way to block out light from sky-lights and curtains didn't block out light so I was awake as soon as the sun came up
Review 114:Staff - excellent. Brilliant vegetarian breakfast. Large room
Review 115:No hot water on first morning. Very poor water pressure and old bathroom suit. Wifi didn't work and staff were unwilling to help. Reception did not pass on message to other staff that my partner was arriving whilst I was out and then reacted angrily to his arrival. Could be cleaner.
Review 116:Breakfast, comfy bed, spacious room, location.
Review 117:Concerned it might be noisy due to location of road and public areas but it wasn't. Large, Comfortable clean room. Suggestion - box of tissues in room/bathroom would be helpful. Staff pleasant and helpful.
Review 118:The bed was so hard, probably the most uncomfortable sleep I've had in years
Review 119:The staff were very nice and friendly, the secure parking is a really big plus for this hotel also.
Review 120:The double executive room, did not have any windows which could be opened. Also, because bathroom, again no windows, there was a bit of a "fusty" smell. But was all very clean.
Review 121:Staff were very helpful, especially when I phoned them directly.
Review 122:The room I was in was not very clean and the bathroom was tired , shower was not much more than a dribble and sink badly repaired . Walls skirting boards and carpet were gruby
Review 123:The staff were friendly helpful and efficient
Review 124:Unfortunately the wi-fi was not working in our room (or several others apparently!)
Review 125:Quiet and comfortable hotel with car parking, convenient to walk into the town centre.
Review 126:mattress on one of the beds should be thrown away - you can feel every spring and button, way past its used by date! Water pressure poor. Toilet would not flush properly.
Review 127:Small tea cups in the rooms. Mugs please. Daft choice of continental or full english breakfast. Most guests assumed you could help yourself to fruit/croissant/cereal in addition to a cooked breakfast because of the layout.
Review 128:All the staff were delightful.
Review 129:The rooms are a very good size with everything you need from a hotel room. The orangey bar is very nice to relax in a after a long day at a wedding and to have breakfast in.
Review 130:The bed was very uncomfortable, the room needed cleaning, dust in the uplighters, orange peal under the bed screws pertruding from the sideboard.
Review 131:Friendly staff.Nice restaurant.
Review 132:Car park entrance difficult to find as not actually on Millgate.
Review 133:Good evening meal and breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. Bathroom rather dated but clean enough.
Review 134:Only thing was the bed very small for two big adults and mattress felt as if it needed replaced not very comfortable at all
Review 135:Quaint hotel friendly staff convenient to everything
Review 136:Good location, staff are friendly and food was exceptionally good. The triple room was small and the beds are not very comfortable, but for just a one night stay was ok. Would stay again but maybe not in that sort of room.
Review 137:We waited for quite some time on arrival to check in as the reception attendant was away dealing with a water leak in the kitchen. The bathroom fittings although spotlessly clean were a bit tired looking.
Review 138:Our room was very spacious and clean, with a very comfortable bed and plenty of wardrobe/drawer space. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere.
