Reviews for Hotel Sofia

Review 1:the neighbourhood could of been quieter

Review 2:the roof top terrace was a big plus, been able to see all the attractions of the beach, sea and that mighty headland with the caves whilst sitting drinking a coozou (coke and ouzo) was great. the room was big and large double bed.

Review 3:The price was breakfast seems very expensive for us (7e per person) so we decided to buy it in the bakery - it costs 8e for 2 people (incl. drinks). No kettle for preparing coffee or tea in the room.

Review 4:Free car parking, really in the downtown, many taverns around, nice beach, good area to stay even just for one night. Rooms vere fully booked, the price was good.

Review 5:Bed was very very firm and the town is very touristic and shampoo sun lotion etc is insanely expensive

Review 6:Perfect location, helpful and very relaxed staff, excellent rooms for a beach holiday. Would definitely go back.

Review 7:The hotel Sofia is located in Matala center just a minute away from Matala beach and its caves, a supermarket, many souvenir shops, cafes and excellent taverns. Bus station and car hire are just around the corner. The beautiful red beach can be reached within 20-25 minutes hiking trail over the mountain directly starting from Hotel Sofia. The family operated hotel is a small stone house hotel with a beautifully designed terrace and fountain. Children and animals are welcome at Hotel Sofia. Cats are strolling around and you wake up to the sounds of cricket and canary birds. The hosts welcome you on the terrace for your breakfast where you can choose between a variety of different breakfasts: normal, English… And don´t you miss the outstanding fresh orange juice that undoubtedly must be the best in whole Matala. Our room on the second floor had a large balcony overlooking a spot of the sea and the iluminated Matala caves that are fascinating at night. The room had WiFe-access and was well- equipped with air conditioner and fridge, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom adequate. If you have a car, the hotel offers free roofed parking. The hosts are very sweet, friendly, especially discrete and helpful in any way. You can also taste and buy the family´s delicious olive oil. The maid ensured our room was immaculate on a daily basis, the rooms are VERY clean and new towels are given frequently. We felt directly at home at Hotel Sofia and we will definitely return since we enjoyed a very relaxing holiday. Sarah & Marc from Germany (Aug./Sept. 2015)

Review 8:The room was quite small and dark. Furniture was dated (or vintage with a bad taste, if you prefer) and the bed was really hard! Shower curtains were short and as result you'll flood the bathroom when taking a shower... Be aware that the hotel does not accept any credit/debit card - only cash!

Review 9:The hotel (as many others) is located in Matala and is good for exploring the village and the nearby beaches... It was overall clean and is a fair choice if you want to spend the night IN Matala rather than in a nearby place. However looking at other possible choices around we felt it was a bit overpriced for what it offers...

Review 10:There are only a few sun loungers by the pool but there's not much room for more. Lots of planes overhead but not too early or late. The price you pay for being close to the airport.

Review 11:Fantastic staff, nice pool. Easy to get to centre and airport on local buses (10 minutes)

Review 12:The location and accommodation of the hotel are amazing. Positioned in a quiet road (where secure parking is arranged by the hotel), a terrace provides shelter for the sun during breakfast/lunch/ or while having a drink. Rooms are very clean and practical. Management and staff are very friendly and most helpful in their advice on things to do and arranging practicalities for any further vacation plans.

Review 13:We felt as if we were disturbing the family running this business. The pics on internet do not reflect the reality. No generosity from the owners, they even charged us for a second cup of coffee although we had already paid 7E for a poor breakfast

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:Very old, not like in photos, no tv, lady didn't speak English, couldn't work computer in morning so we could pay, so had to wake up son who was so hungover couldn't work computer either, so had to go and find atm to get cash. Other than cash only way can pay is by transferring money over on computer! Worst hotel ever.

Review 16:The look of other hotels nearby!

Review 17:I would only change the amount I paid for breakfast. It was a bit simple for the price I paid.

Review 18:The owners were very hospitable and made huge effort to relate across the language barrier. They also stayed up extra late to ensure I was able to check in.

Review 19:The owner was very friendly and helpful. Awesome location, just over the hill from Red Beach and in the centre of Matala. Would definitely recommend to friends.

Review 20:Absolutely nothing, I highly recommend this listing to everyone!!!!

Review 21:The Location, the hammocks in the dinning area, how it was the halfway point to Red Beach and Town, the atmosphere, the kindness, and most of all... the feeling that I was home whenever I ran into one of the staff members!!!! The Price, value, and sights. Best food in Matalya, absolutely best breakfast, hands down!!!

Review 22:Hard bed. Tiny shower.

Review 23:Location, cleanliness.

Review 24:Near the beach and the main street, feel the spirit of hip :)

Review 25:Beautiful little garden

Review 26:The private patio off the room, with a hammock, was a nice touch. SUCH a charming village.

Review 27:They should renovate it. The rooms look old.

Review 28:Location was the best

Review 29:the bed was very very hard

Review 30:It was a convenient location and the patron was very sweet! It was quiet and I had my own lovely balcony!

Review 31:Hard beds

Review 32:Location and parking

Review 33:There's a fridge, air conditioner. Cleaning lady comes every day. You can buy excellent breakfast but it's for 7 euro.

Review 34:Very kind owners

Review 35:Perfect location. Clean and spacious bedroom. Very helpful and nice staff. Free covered parking.

Review 36:The smell of sewer coming from the drain.

Review 37:The location was good.

Review 38:Very bad bed - no comfortable room - bad or no decoration - dont look like the pictures they advertise at all

Review 39:Placement in the city

Review 40:Excellent staff, nice location! We really enjoyed the stay and definitely would like to come back here next time!

Review 41:Everything!

Review 42:There was nothing to not like about staying here!!!

Review 43:Wonderful family run Hotel.

Review 44:A bit expensive comparing to other places.

Review 45:The two ladies, who run the place are wonderful! Perfect location!

Review 46:shower was a little small

Review 47:Very friendly staff, in the middle of the city, close to the beach, nice place to hang out

Review 48:Old style Greek "no problem" establishment - when the taxi couldn't make it to the airport to meet us, the proprietor came himsrlf!

Review 49:Very poor breakfast. The rooms are very old, not renovated, in awful condition. The staff isn't friendly. Mattrasses were as bad as it only possible. The worst hotel I stayed at in my entire life!!!

Review 50:Nothing good can be said about it, it was really awful!!!

Review 51:Breakfast not a great value Matala is much too touristy. Staying inKamilari or Pitsidia preferable if you have a car.

Review 52:Comfortable bed, great private terrace, friendly woman in charge, free parking.

Review 53:The bedroom wasn't so clean! When I put the second bedline I've found a biscuit between the matresse and the bed which wasn't so pleasant!

Review 54:L'hotel is central located, just few minutes from beaches and restaurants. Staff was quite friendly

Review 55:Very basic amenities, had to ask for toilet roll, bath mat, and only onetowel each. Shower curtain is 6 inches outside the shower, and waterruns away from the drain, so the room floods easily. Breakfast, which wepaid for in advance, was bread, butter and jam, tea/coffee - not asshown on internet. When we complained, we were offered an egg and orangejuice in addition. On leaving we were told they did not accept cards, though it said the did on Booking.com. We did not have enough cash withus or in bank - eventually and reluctantly payment by card was madeavailable. Wonder how they have scored 8.1 on Booking.com!

Review 56:Location, very close to beach, town centre and excellent position forthe music festival, just a few minutes stroll. Shady and very prettygarden, lovely to relax in after a late night.

Review 57:The Hotel Sofia is the perfect incarnation of old style Greek hospitality. Nothing is any problem and everything is extremely laid back and friendly - yet works with a seamless efficiency that old style Greece never quite mastered. It is only a small hotel, but is all the better for that - you really do feel like a guest not a customer. We are already planning our next stay.

Review 58:Great little family run hotel, very polite hosts, nice breakfast.

Review 59:Nothing in particular

Review 60:Perfect position, 2 minutes walking to the beach and to the Village free parking very nice location

Review 61:Friendly and very close to beach, bars and restaurants. Nice little village.

Review 62:Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Excellent location.

Review 63:small room with very small bathroom.

Review 64:Staff was very friendly and the location is great.

Review 65:Slow wi-fi connection.

Review 66:The hotel is well located and clean.
