Reviews for The Golden Lion Inn
Review 1:No negative points.
Review 2:A very friendly and welcoming establishment. We stayed overnight and found the staff very friendly and accommodating and the breakfast excellent. The room was spacious and clean and all our needs were met. I would highly recommend a stay here.Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 3:Lovely break over new year. Good quality meals both dinner and breakfast were simple but excellent quality. Lovely room quiet despite a full and lively pub atmosphere downstairs.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Great place to stay and relax. The restaurant serves excellent food and offers a wide choice with a daily specials board as well. The breakfasts were brilliant. Would advise booking the restaurant before you go as it's very popular.
Review 6:we could not get the tap on the sink to stop dripping !!!!!!
Review 7:the welcome was so friendly and the breakfast and service in resteurant was first class so sorry we did not have evening meal with you. the room was so comfy and the shower was fantastic. Thank you for the bottled water and the shower gel and most esp the telephone call.
Review 8:Weren't told about the rear car park. Failed to book our table in the bar for dinner which we were promised as residents. Light bulbs not working in the bathroom and outside our door.
Review 9:Great location. Good facilities. Dog friendly.
Review 10:We have no complaints about the hotel, but would probably recommend not hiring anyone who doesn't speak fluent English to work behind the bar. We couldn't make conversation with this particular barman & when we asked for "more" milk in our room we got "warm" milk. It didnt spoil our stay though & at least we could laugh about it afterwards.
Review 11:Loved this place as it had all the charm of an olde worlde pub but with all the modern facilities you need too. The rooms were spotlessly clean with comfortable beds although our room was quite small. The restaurant was beautiful & food top class. We would definately book here again
Review 12:We loved the whole experience. The rooms were modern and very comfortable with all the things you might need for your stay. We ate in the pub on the eve of our arrival and in the restaurant on the following evening as well as having breakfast there. The meals were excellent. All the staff were friendly and helpful from behind the bar to the restaurant staff and management. Right in the centre of Newport itself with good parking. Will definately be back!
Review 13:Limited Wi-Fi.
Review 14:Friendly, helpful staff; no problem accommodating the addition of a dog at the last minute. Excellent, good value restaurant. Good beer!
Review 15:As this inn is very busy in the evenings the car parking atrocious.
Review 16:Very friendly staff, nothing was a problem. The location was great for touring what can only be described as a fantastic area. What is not to be liked about Pembrokeshire?
Review 17:I have stayed here before and thoroughly recommend it. We usually rent a cottage in Newport but when we want a quick Newport "fix", this is where we come. It's clean, comfortable, and a fabulous resteraunt.
Review 18:i was there on a bank holiday weekend so parking was a bit of a problem in the late evening, but it was always possible to get in somewhere. This is because the Golden Lion is so popular.
Review 19:The hotel uses as much locally produced produce and even furniture etc. as it possibly can. The breakfast was superb, with the widest range of choice. The staff were friendly and helpful in every respect. I didn't use the restaurant of this visit, but in the past the food has always been superb.
Review 20:The evening meal was difficult in terms of seating and feeling a valued guest. We did feel squashed in and there was a lack of attention at the bar.
Review 21:the cleanliness and the waitresses were fab!
Review 22:Friendly staff, immaculate, comfortable room, delicious food all set in a traditional pub. Amazing location, Newport Pembs is a wonderful place to stay.
Review 23:We were a little disappointed there was no live music on in the pub during the summer months. Surely this would be the best time for it?! Also, the air conditioning was so strong in the pub that it was almost too cold!
Review 24:Great location. Only 5 min walk from the b&b to the footpath that takes you on to the coastal path. The town of Newport is lovely too! The pub downstairs was really friendly and lively. Was great being able to eat dinner, have some drinks and then go straight upstairs to comfy bedroom!
Review 25:Friendly staff, modern bedrooms, nearly perfect if not perfect bathrooms, fine dinner in the pub, tasty breakfast in the morning, not very far from Fishguard (Ferry To Rosslare, Ireland)
Review 26:Room was small making it difficult to access wardrobe and nowhere to put suitcase. Wifi intermittent.
Review 27:The location is good, food great and staff very hospitable, overall a very pleasant stay.
Review 28:Everything was fantastic especially the food. The food isn't cheap but it is good value for money and worth every penny, outstanding! We've never had food so well presented and superbly cooked. The staff were all very helpful and pleasant and we will definitely be returning for future holidays
Review 29:I loved everything - the atmosphere of the hotel was friendly, and we had a very warm welcome. Dinner was absolutely delicious - I recommend the chicken pie.
Review 30:1st world issue, wifi drops out too often
Review 31:From the friendly welcome, to the excellent room, fantastic dinner, well worth the stay if you find yourself this far into Wales.
Review 32:Having to leave.
Review 33:The friendly staff, the immaculate decor and the food. I am travelling by bike and allowed me to leave it in a foyer outside my room. I purchased a bag over the handlebars as I didn't want to mark the freshly painted wall.
Review 34:All the staff were friendly and helpful and the food served in the restaurant for breakfast and evening meals was of excellent quality. The room was nicely presented and very comfortable.
Review 35:The family room was absolutely first class - everything we could have wished for and the perfect home from home. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the breakfast was second to none. Overall, a perfect stay. Thank you!
Review 36:I didn't have a bad experience but as a slightly disabled pensioner would have appreciated a lift.
Review 37:The comfort, the food and the staff who were always friendly and helpful.
Review 38:The pillows could have been a bit softer but this is a very minor quibble
Review 39:I loved the food in the restaurant, it was outstanding and I loved our room which was beautifully appointed but the en-suite was the real showstopper - absolutely gorgeous.
Review 40:Very impressed wth room-care taken over the smallest of detail (locally sourced furniture, soft furnishings, -they clearly take pride in the accommodation they offer). A tray for diety walking boots was even provided-good thinking! and the shower was AWESOME! Staff went above and beyond their call of duty-upon discovering we'd not parked in the hotel car park but in the village one, I was immediately offered a lift (from the inn owner) so as to go and fetch my car and bring it back to the inn car park. Such service!
Review 41:If you really want me to say anything negative it would just be the Pillows they were like bricks!
Review 42:I booked just a few days in advance. When my husband and I arrived we were was pleasantly surprised it was exactly as advertised and the service was second to none. Well done, love to stay again someday!
Review 43:Triple room was a bit cramped with 3 of us in it. Cooked breakfast looked a bit meagre on the large plate. Enough food for me but perhaps offer the choice of two sausages or one.
Review 44:Smartly decorated rooms Very quiet room (13) well back from the main inn. Lovely bathroom with bath and shower and nice toiletries. Seeded bread was so tasty we called in at the baker's in Cardigan to buy some.
Review 45:Everything- the warmth and friendliness and care was superb. the food was first class(we had 3 evening meals there and were most impressed at the quality. Regards the breakfast-well just go there and try it- it was very special and Breakfast Bob is a star. Nya (pronounced near) Martina and Magda made us so welcome and we will surely return .Thank you ,golden lion.
Review 46:Could have had a larger lounge area for the staying guests. But was, nt really a big deal.
Review 47:The staff, the food, the rooms were all very good. A really nice place for a break. I would highly recommend the golden lion at Newport, west wales
Review 48:none
Review 49:excellent modern room facilities cosy charm in the bar/restaurant excellent food friendly professional staff pet friendly in the centre of excellent walking areas
Review 50:Lovely setting. Snug pub with fantastic food and friendly pleasant staff. The village of Newport is extremely picturesque and very tranquil. We will definitely return.
Review 51:could have done with more seating in room. Only one chair (apart from dressing table stool) A DVD player would be good (maybe built in to TV not expensive these days)
Review 52:nice atmosphere. Spacious room and bathroom. Good breakfast. Nice bar great food.
Review 53:Bed and pillows like rock Shower could only be used at half pressure or it caused a flood If you open the window there is confidential humming from a giant fridge. Triple room was cramped for two a and had many little issues.
Review 54:Food is terrific Staff were very good Nice to have parking on site
Review 55:Drinks a bit expensive, other than that nothing.
Review 56:Have stayed at the Golden Lion before and we were really impressed at the levels of efficiency. We arrived and had a small issue with the allocated room, this was dealt with immediately and very professionally, although we had arrived 2 hrs before check in time, other Hotels could learn from this. The food, cleanliness and staff were exceptional, special thanks to Magda who dealt with the room issue very professionally and with a sense of humour. Big thanks to everyone at the Golden Lion for a very relaxed stay, we will be back.
Review 57:There were two points The tap and the shower were not easy to handle. The tap had a jerky operator and it was easy to regulate the flow and temperature. The shower is controlled by two rotary knobs. Neither was labeled as to function and regulation. This resulted in a very hot shower with quite a strong pressure. This seemed so uncharacteristic for the hotel where every thing else was first class.
Review 58:The atmosphere was relaxed but really efficient. The staff that we encountered knew just what we want to know and this came over in a cool and relaxed manner. The hotel is smart without being starchy, very clean but welcoming and relaxed.
Review 59:Ideal location close to coastal walks other pubs and resturants and public transport. Room was spotless and pub busy and friendly. We were exceptionally lucky with the weather, blue skies and high temperatures.
Review 60:Menu was very good for a pub. Quality of food, presentation of dishes, and level of service and locally sourced ingredients far exceeded expectations! Superior quality furniture
Review 61:Towels not changed regularly enough,no biscuits, toiletries not topped up daily.
Review 62:Very friendly staff ,excellent breakfast, superb food in restaurant, very efficient service
Review 63:The restaurant is very popular and had been booked up weeks in advance by those in the know. The only alternative for us was the bar. Normally, I would not find this a problem but here the experience was awful. The only table we could find was beside a pool table around which were congregated about a dozen, unsupervised, young children. A juke box was playing rhythmic, tuneless music loudly and adults were feeding money to children to keep it topped up. Because of the music, other customers in the bar had to raise their voices adding to the cacophony. No environment in which to enjoy food.
Review 64:Very convenient location on the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path. Modern, comfortable rooms and breakfast area in an extension to the old Inn.
Review 65:Very uncomfortable pillows.
Review 66:Staff extremely friendly, food was excellent and very good value for money, very cosy atmosphere in both bar and restaurant.
Review 67:It was perfect for a relaxing weekend, staff were really friendly. Food was fantastic. Will definitely be going back and will be recommending it to friends
Review 68:Didn't like the fact that big dogs were allowed in the bar where people were eating ,and getting underfoot. But that is the only critcism.
Review 69:From the very first ,we knew we had made a good choice of where to spend a week away in North Pembrokeshire. The staff were all very courteous and professional. Our room ,although near the kitchen ,was quiet ,very comfortable and well maintained. We ate either in the restaurant or bar every night ,and every night we were served with a delicious plate of food. Our breakfasts were well cooked with high quality produce. The staff were all very efficient and hardworking even though the evenings were busy. We stayed for a week and we thought it was excellent value .The area around is stunning with beautiful coastal walks.
Review 70:Leaving
Review 71:We stayed for one night and had breakfast there the next morning. The room was clean, modern, looked recently refurbished and very comfortable. En suite bathroom was pristine and new. The dining room had also been recently refurbished and was modern and clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again we eat in the restaurant in the evening and the food was delicious too. Nothing is to much trouble for the excellent staff, who always manage a smile, even though extremely busy. Highly recommended.
Review 72:The inn was completely remodeled inside and very modern and comfortable. It had a neat pub that was more traditional. Good location and right across from a launderette, which was very convenient.
Review 73:Because we had a dog, we had ground floor room next to kitchen. Noisy aircon and food smells meant window could not be opened! Will go back again, but not to that room!
Review 74:Very friendly and helpful people. Totally clean hotel area and dining room but bar was kept in old style, but again very clean. Enjoyed food.
Review 75:Nothing to dislike.
