Reviews for Hillview Cottage
Review 1:The host and his daughter were wonderful in their caring, helpfulness and genuine warmth. The location was in a beautiful and peaceful area. Jon is a great conversationalist and a very good cook to boot. I would recommend anyone to stay here. Fantastic value and really looking forward to returning in the future.
Review 2:The room looked as though it was tired. In need of renovation in comparison with other BnB's we stayed in
Review 3:John was really friendly and helpful in a difficult situation
Review 4:The only downside might be for people expecting to be in Stirling. This is a rural property some 6 miles from the city.
Review 5:Jon is a good host, hot breakfast is generous. Very quiet place to sleep. Jon's suggestion of the Lion & Unicorn in nearby Thornhill was just what we needed for a fine meal and a few pints.
Review 6:Parking and access from roadway a little restrictive (to someone accustomed to driving on the "other" side of the road)!
Review 7:Took a little while to check-in due to owner being delayed by an emergency .. however "Susan" stepped in and did a great job sorting out the keys! Dined at an excellent little pub in Doune. Lodgings comfortable .. large bathroom with steaming hot water .. and really excellent breakfast!
Review 8:We got a very warm welcome from the host. Rooms were clean and the view from our room very picturesque. Breakfast was delicious and we would definitely stay again.
Review 9:No hot water in my room in the morning so I had to boil a kettle so I could shave. Outside of property is tatty and needs a good tidy up.
Review 10:Amazing views and handy location for Stirling. Traditional feel without being chocolate box. Good cooked breakfast
Review 11:Nearby road a bit noisy with an open window, fortunately got much quieter at night, so no problem with sleep at all.
Review 12:Great location for visiting Stirling/Falkirk. Very nice and friendly owners. The family room and the lounge cosy and tastefully decorated. Poor WiFi and almost no mobile covrage - an advantage for us, but teenagers weren't that happy.
Review 13:Sitting on the same table with the other guests is not for everyone.
Review 14:The look on the hills from our rooms was very nice. Hillview Cottage is a really fitting name.
Review 15:It is lying a bit outside of everything.... but it was the only one that we found in the area of Stirling (just booked from one day to the other in the high season...), no pub and no restaurant in walking distance - you definitely need a car here (next restaurant about 5 miles away)!
Review 16:Our room, bath and the lounge area was very nice, good breakfast, free parking on private ground, close to Stirling and Falkirk and its attractions
Review 17:mix-up over booking, owner settled account ...room not to our liking....wall clock had a loud tick-tock---breakfast room was very dusty, other guests didnt like us all sitting together
Review 18:good breakfast
Review 19:The place was exactly what we needed, a short drive from Stirling in a lovely rural setting. Our host was very friendly, the room comfortable and and the cooked breakfast delicious.
Review 20:(1)Eating at 'communal' table, (2)Cups in bedroom crazed inside, and looked dirty.(3)No mirror in room, so not able to use hairdryer properly,(4) Very untidy entrance.
Review 21:Peace and quiet, friendly host
Review 22:The owner and his family are very warm and helpful, they gave us a lot information on things to do nearby and when my son got up late, they helped us pack breakfast with no complaints, really nice people!
Review 23:Se encuentra a unas 5 millas del centro de Stirling, por lo q dependes del coche, pero es un lugar muy tranquilo.
Review 24:John fue muy agradable durante nuestra corta estancia. El desayuno muy completo.
Review 25:Clean and spacious bedroom. Comfortable and quirky shared lounge/breakfast room. Excellent and helpful host with an attentive but non-intrusive style.
Review 26:The room was not very good it appeared that someone had burnt something on the storage heater which had left it and the wall above it blackened .
Review 27:The owner was very friendly and the breakfast was very good.It was a pleasant B&B
Review 28:None
Review 29:Jon was extremely helpful to facilitate my unavoidable late check-in and courteous throughout my stay. The room was all you could ask for and the breakfast was excellent. The free use of Wi-Fi was of great benefit to my trip and overall I would highly recommend this well run and attractive Guesthouse
Review 30:Cottage is out of town a little, so a car is a must. Parking is very tight with 4 cars.
Review 31:Comfortable, nice breakfast, accommodating, interesting chap that owns the place.
Review 32:We stayed in a good sized family room that accommodated 5 and we all felt very much at home. The place is ideally located and makes a number of sites easily accessible.
Review 33:Ticking clock outside my room was annoying.
Review 34:Great rural location with nice views. Good size room with modern bathroom. Complete breakfast was included. Free parking, with easy access to Stirling, Doune, and Bridge of Allan. Owner helped me ship my golf clubs back to the U.S., and even used his own printer to print shipping label and customs forms.
Review 35:Location, manager went away out with the keys to our room, not enough seating for breakfast, it advertises WiFi and none available
Review 36:The cooked breakfast

Review 42:You need to have your own transport if you stay at this B&B as there are no eating places within walking distance.
Review 43:John was friendly and seems to run Hillview cottage single handedly. He does a great job juggling everyones needs. The room was clean with a lovely view across fields and the ensuite modern.

Review 47:Everything needed was provided for. Host was friendly & catered for your every need. Lion & Unicorn Pub just up the road had a great evening menu.
Review 48:Hillview's address is stated as Stirling. It is actually 6 miles outside of the city. Bus drivers don't know Kirk Lane which does not have a road sign name. Ask to be dropped off at Blair Drummond Community Hall. I wish I had known this in advance.

Review 102:Leaving.
Review 103:There was everything needed to make ones stay enjoyable. Jon is into high-tech equipment in the rooms which was entertaining at times. Personally I liked the one table breakfast arrangement as it promoted conversation between the guests. This was great whilst enjoying a well cooked and presented breakfast. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble for Jon who always found time to help put the world right. I would recommend this accommodation as really good value for money.
Review 104:Be aware that you need car to go anywhere. There is nothing in the walking distance from this place.
Review 105:Very nice place to stay, quiet, in the countryside, with all the facilities and new equipment. Tasty breakfast is served in a small dining room.
Review 106:Coffee at breakfast was from a machine, but not too bad.
Review 107:Good location in the country with cows outside our window. Basic but clean room, good breakfast and very friendly staff. Excellent wifi signal strength.
Review 108:The bedroom could have done with a mirror being situated in the room. Would have preferred table and chairs in the breakfast room .Rather than one long bench, especially if you have mobility issues.
Review 109:The Beds were very comfortable, good breakfast, Jon was very helpful.
Review 110:Nothing really
Review 111:Beautiful B&B. Nice room, clean, big...in the middle of scotland's countryside and 10 minutes from Stirling. I would stay again
Review 112:John, the owner, is very friendly and made us feel at home. He gave good recommendations for dinners out and sights to see, like Lake Katrine in the Trossachs.
Review 113:The room is small, however, given that it is located in a historical cottage, this is to be expected.
Review 114:If you want a real homestay experience then this is it. This family have literally opened their own home to strangers. The owners are gracious and have an amazing amount of local knowledge.
Review 115:The only thing not to like was our length of stay - if only we'd have booked for a longer stay
Review 116:The owner was welcoming, the neighbours were welcoming, the local pub was welcoming. We stayed with 3 very young children and were welcomed in by the owner who wanted to cater for our every need. We had a room with 1 double bed, 1 single bed and 2 large bunk beds with an en-suite bathroom. It was very spacious, child friendly (proof) and had everything we needed. The owner was very knowledgable on a lot of things and made good conversation. We will be booking to stay here again for sure
