Reviews for Bell Hotel
Review 1:Careless waitress at breakfast service (gave bacon and sausage when I had asked for a vegetarian breakfast.) Noisy radiator gurgling and swooshing kept me awake all night ... not possible to control room temperature ... i felt cold.
Review 2:Friendly staff (apart from the breakfast service), Good location for Tewksbury
Review 3:The room was dirty bathroom was dirty with flaking paint and rotten window frame. A 3ft length of wire was stuffed behind radiator.and in room above bed cobwebs.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:Rooms were newly decorated, but in very drab colours. Rooms were very noisy, not road noise, but heating, plumbing, just old building creaking that kept me awake for hours.
Review 6:Central location, good looking hotel.
Review 7:Dirty towel left in on floor in corridor all day. Windows in need of refurbishment, cardboard taped over hole
Review 8:Perfect location and breakfast super if a little large! Staff extremely helpful and friendly.
Review 9:Duvet was paper thin. No washing supplies for the shower. Supplies for tea/coffee making were mean. Bar/breakfast staff below par.
Review 10:Location is great, next to the Abbey. Car park very good. Management very friendly and communicative.
Review 11:Our cooked breakfast was brought to us by the European waitress and wehad only just started to eat our cereal. It was just left on the sideof the table and by the time we had finished our cereal it was coldand we had to leave most of it which was a great shame. We saidnothing as not to cause the young waitress any problem. Other problemswere lack of friendliness from the European house keepers. Must be alanguage problem?
Review 12:Location
Review 13:Inappropriate sundae spoon. Some maintenance not thoroughly done.
Review 14:Location adjacent to the Abbey is excellent. The room was basic but provided all necessary comfort. Restaurant and bar offered value food.
Review 15:Sunday morning breakfast was quite bad. Dried bacon/sausage (yes - only one) and the fried egg was swimming in some sort of oil. The mushrooms looked like they had been under the grill for more than the recommended time. I've had better !! I also had to remind the staff on checkout that I was entitled to a 10% discount on my dinner the previous evening.
Review 16:The food in the bar was good but the Chef who prepared Breakfast could have got out of bed earlier to make sure what he presented to the guests was of a better standard.
Review 17:Restaurant staff/service was very poor. Room No 1 facilities, shower, bed very poor
Review 18:General Manager, Emma and on duty evening manager, Holly were very pleasant and friendly
Review 19:We were not expecting not to have a decent shower. What we got was an attachment in the bath which was impossible to use as a shower as it was very low and there was no curtain. We would not want to stay in room 5 again because of this. Also the bathroom was cold as there didn't seem to be any heating in there. We didn't complain at the time because we were located near room 4 where our travel companion stayed (her room was very good).
Review 20:The hotel is well placed in Tewkesbury with free car parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. The bedroom and bed were comfortable. Breakfasts were excellent.
Review 21:Insecure and unlockable windows with broken catches are a major concern regarding room security and urgently need total replacement. Some waiting staff not keeping items topped up at breakfast. A mess of a fried egg served on our first morning. The cook should've binned it and done another, if he/she had any pride in their work. Our review score would've been lower had we stayed for only one night but subsequent breakfasts were better presented.
Review 22:The beautiful main building dating from the Tudor period. The choice of Eggs Benedict and Eggs Royale for breakfast. Location, handy for the town centre and buses. Free parking!
Review 23:Had a full english breakfast...was ok, but the sausage wasn't very nice & toast was barely cooked p.s. also it needed service with a smile! :)
Review 24:Great location with the views of the abbey & close to the town. Clean & comfortable rooms, with a nice hot shower!!
Review 25:Mould in the bathroom due to a lack of window. Ill fitting curtains and scuffs on the walls. Dinner wasn't great - presumably owing to 2 large parties.A couple of waiters had no sense of urgency despite the restauarnt being very busy.
Review 26:Good welcome at reception.Nice dining area and good breakfast choice.
Review 27:Could hear next bedroom Tv and talking, breakfast waitresses could be a bit more cheerful, hot water was really very hot ( there was a warning )
Review 28:Convenient to town, breakfast good, bar good
Review 29:Unfortunately they were not very accomodating with a late check out (as I was working night shift), but this was partly down to me probably as I had not mentioned it on the booking. The other thing that was not to pleasant was the breakfast waiting time, I sat down and was asked if I wanted tea or coffee, which was fine, then after a whole 20 minutes I was asked if I wanted some breakfast, I would have appreciated if the order would have been taken a bit quicker considering I had to get to bed to get some sleep and then I had to wait another 15 minutes for toast, while others that came after me got their toast almost straight away within a couple minutes.
Review 30:The location was superb, the room was very clean, with great facilities and very quiet. WIFI worked great and breakfast was above average. The evening food is lovely too, I can recommend the fillet steak!
Review 31:We have stayed twice at The Bell. The first visit was in the main building in a lovely room full of character. This prompted our return. This visit we were in the adjoining block of rooms and whilst the room was perfectly adequate and clean it lacked the history and ambience of the main pub.
Review 32:The Bell is beautifully situated opposite the cathedral. The main building is lovely with a lot of its character intact. The menu is varied and very reasonably priced. The staff are always friendly, courteous and efficient.
Review 33:Parking is an issues no guest parking, struggled on first night. Some staff sadly let down the hard work of others, and breakfast is poor, which is a shame as lunch and dinner menu is very very good.
Review 34:Location is great, hotel is nice, some of the staff are exceptional
Review 35:The room (20) wasn't what we expected having stayed there before in a much nicer room we thought all rooms would be the same standard
Review 36:Location Meals
Review 37:The kitchen fan runs between 7am and 11pm and needs to be fixed. I had a loud buzzing sound in room 8 that could only be tolerated by closing all windows and curtains. It really needs to be fixed asap
Review 38:I had room 7, there's a fan from the kitchen which run up the wall next to our window which was made a lot of noise ! But Charley assured us it went off at 10pm then onagain at 8pm and that was what happen. Also a double mattress on a king size base !! Why !!!
Review 39:A very easy book in, I had only booked it 2 hours earlier on the booking.com web sit but all went great, ( Charley was great, booked us in, work in the bar then met us for breakfast !!!)
Review 40:At breakfast, I was offered a cup of coffee when I got there, which the waiter poured. After a period of time, (about 20 minutes), I thought I would be offered a second cup. I waited and waited and waited. In the end, had to ask him for a second cup and for some toast (which was not offered at all) by wandering into the kitchen (to find him talking to other staff). I was the only one at breakfast at the time as well, so it wasn't as if he was busy!
Review 41:Lovely setting by an old mill. Quiet room.
Review 42:The Saturday breakfast service was unsatisfactory in as much as not enough staff, food was luke warm and toast was just warm brown bread. Sunday was very good, staff better organised.
Review 43:Friendly and helpful staff.
Review 44:The location was excellent with good parking for car.Although a pub there was no noise in the evening although they were busy.we ate here on 2 occasions in the evening ,good value and the breakfasts were veryood
Review 45:Just very small things. Bedroom had some noise, possibly from cooling system in inner courtyard, which turned on & off all night. Decor modern but a bit dark. Needed instructions for shower, which I couldn't fathom out. Nice heavy china cups at breakfast needed warming - coffee was tepid.
Review 46:People very pleasant & helpful. Position good, & surprisingly little road noise. Bed comfy, stylish modern bathroom. Breakfast mostly good.
Review 47:nothing not to like.
Review 48:Its a quaint and very old style country Inn- but leaves nothing to be desired The room was nice and quiet, all very clean and very comfortable; the dinner menus were great as was the wine list - have been here 3 years on the trot - and always been highly satisfied - and will be back next year/ Thanks to Emma and Team - a Highly Recommended from me ; 10/10
Review 49:all bedrooms face a courtyard which backs on to the kitchen. Enormous extractor starts up at 07:30 which acts as an alarm clock no chance of any sleep when it gets going.
Review 50:nothing
Review 51:Breakfast staff could have been more switched on. State of tiling around bath in room 6 is a disgrace, done by a first day apprentice I suspect.
Review 52:The only criticism is that it was rather noisy since it is situated on a main road and there was no double-glazing......possibly because it is very old and may be a protected building.
Review 53:Excellent location close to the town centre with good free parking. The room was comfortable and clean.
Review 54:Room through night entrance hall needs redecorating and Smelt stale.Breakfast luke warm. Staff did apologise but didn't offer to rectify problem.
Review 55:Staff very friendly. Bedroom through night entrance needs redecorating. Room comfortable, breakfast not up to usual standard. Good value and location. Have stayed twice before.
Review 56:Upon arrival we couldn't find a parking space and the receptionist wasn't very helpful. Directions to our rooms were scanty so we spent ages establishing where our rooms were. We were in an annexe which was pleasant. Our son's single room was in the main hotel which is definitely in need of some serious updating. Our son's room was poky and dark. The service in the restaurant was unsmiling and brusque, apart from Joe who was very willing, smiley and helpful. Breakfast service was much better than the evening.
Review 57:Our room was fine, if a little dated, but comfortable. Our evening meal was good as was breakfast.
Review 58:Shower was falling off the wall and so slightly hazardous. Bizarre as the room was beautifully done and then the bathroom was more like a Uni halls together with breaking fixtures. On check out I did report it and they said they would get it looked at but without much conviction and didnt note it down.
Review 59:Very comfy bed and lovely staff
Review 60:Our bedroom was in the oldest part of the Inn and had an uneven floor, which is why it couldn't have an excellent score. Secondary glazing helped with the traffic noise, which was expected as the building was in the centre of town. Old extractor fan for kitchen was near our bedroom, noisy. We were told it was due to be replaced soon.
Review 61:Central position. Interesting historic building, which is why it couldn't be excellent - we were in the old part. Large bedroom with an uneven floor which added to the experience. We had an enjoyable visit. Very good breakfast. Loads of choice if you didn't want the full English.
Review 62:not a lot not to like
Review 63:courtesy and helpfulness of the staff, excellent breakfast, coffee & cake, good choice of food ranging from very reasonable to more upmarket.
Review 64:Very basic (double bed too small for nowadays) & we're not fat. En suite very dated & run down. Badly in need of refurbishment.
Review 65:Staff friendly & helpful. Power shower good. Ambience. No argument over refusing to pay for tough steak.
Review 66:The Bell is an excellent place to stay for the standard of its decor and food. The late breakfast and checkout was very welcome as we had travelled a long way to get there. The sound of Tewkesbury Abbey clock chiming just added to the atmosphere.
Review 67:Brilliant location opposite the abbey and within a few minutes of the lovely town and other attractions. Excellent car park, pleasant staff, tasty food reasonably priced - overall a very good experience and would stay again.
Review 68:We were given Room 7 which has the kitchen extractor fan directly outside the window, this was extremely noisy and the smell was unpleasant. The majority of staff were freindly and accomodating but there were one or two who were rude and unprofessional. The hotel appears tired and in need of a revamp, plumbing in particular!
Review 69:The location of this hotel is very good. We complained about the room we were originally given and a new room was allocated swiftly. The food was very good!
Review 70:Poor food that was just cooked and took ages to be served by terrible wait staff who forget when you asked for drinks. Poor bedroom in need of updating, the walls were dirty!! miserable looking staff seeming unprepared to do anything for you almost begrudgingly bringing your meals. uncomfortable bed , uncomfortable pillows would not be staying again!
Review 71:Easy check in and out procedure & free parking.
Review 72:1 tiny sausage, 1 rasher of bacon, 2 button mushrooms,1/2 small tomato,1 fried egg, 1 tablespoon of beans, doesn't qualify as a Full English in my opinion.
Review 73:Great location, Traditional Hotel.
Review 74:Needs refurbishing, hence looking not clean. Breakfast staff and service shoddy
Review 75:Asked for room with bath and was promptly moved, no problems. Also requested fan, again no problems.
Review 76:Inexperience of bar and breakfast staff.
Review 77:We stayed in room 1 so we overlooked the abbey which was lovely. We enjoyed the meal we had in the evening-we chose to have our meal in the bar area because it was more relaxed.
Review 78:2 issues, 1st car parking. Had to park in public car park(couple of hundred yards down the road) until late in evening when a space at the Hotel car park became free(Car park should be for Hotel guests only). 2nd Room was adjacent to Beer Coolers(which are quite noisy) & with the window open you don't get a good nights sleep.
Review 79:Food in the Pub/Restaurant is of a very high quality, with a good selection.
Review 80:Cold, pappy toast in the morning. Think the bread was only 'shown' the toaster and then left in a pile till someone wanted it. Vegetarian sausage was microwaved and microwaved again as it was tough as old boots. This didn't ruin our holiday though.
Review 81:Good value for money hotel. Snugness of various public areas. Staff extremely friendly, chamber maids friendly and polite. Our room and bathroom were always spotless. We had room 22 overlooking the car park and a paved table area.. Food choices and pricing very reasonable. Weren't looking for haute cuisine. We would certainly use this hotel again and are considering a longer stay with this hotel group.
Review 82:Nothing, the very slight thing was the sound of an outside fan making anoise, but not really a problem
Review 83:The hotel is really lovely, and quaint! Parking a brilliant bonus, breakfast was yummy!!! Service throughout was excellent, would definitely recommend!
Review 84:Rooms were basic but for a cost of fifty nine pounds which included breakfast it was fine.
Review 85:Lovely view overlooking Abbey Rooms were clean and adequate, reflected in the price. Breakfast was gorgeous, wonderful sausages.
Review 86:Most of the staff were fine but some of the staff at breakfast did not seem to listen to what was ordered and thus breakfasts became a 'hit and miss' affair, some of us getting what we ordered, some getting half of what was ordered, and on one occasion a breakfast was actually forgotten and when it was mentioned to the staff on duty they did bring the breakfast eventually but there was no apology or smile.
Review 87:Rooms comfortable and clean and the reception and bar staff were very friendly.
Review 88:when we entered the dining room it we empty I ordered porridge it arrived my wife ordered scramble egg not a complicated option you would have thought it took thirty five minuets to arrive I drank a small pot of tea as we were waiting so long we are back home now and the tea still has not arrived I'm glad we did not use the dining in the evening if this is the quality of their service I think the staff were just passing time there and had no go about them or interest in their work I will not be returning
Review 89:the receptionists appeared to know what their job entailed
Review 90:I stayed in the hotel overnight. The room was clean and quiet and provided all the necessary items for an hotel room. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was good. Someone had clearly given thought to what a visitor was likely to need in such a room. It was an enjoyable stay, and excellent value for money.
Review 91:Smallish room. Ironing board but couldn't see an iron.
Review 92:Nice clean bathroom. Liquid soap and moisturiser at the sink. Good breakfast and reasonable evening menu.
Review 93:With heavy suitcases we could maybe have been better off with a room on a lower level, but didn't ask as it wasn't really a problem.
Review 94:Its location and age as we were wanting an old hotel.
Review 95:Mostly there wasn't anyone on reception. The light over the bed didn't work making the room dark. The vegetarian breakfast, on both days, didn't have vegetarian sausages.
Review 96:The hotel was quiet. The shower over the bath was excellent.
Review 97:The dirty bathroom! The whole bathroom needed a thorough deep clean. I did not use the shower, it was so mouldy and uninviting. The toilet needed cleaning and the washbasin was not much better. The whole bedroom was very 'tired', but the bed was clean and comfortable.
Review 98:The staff were lovely, very helpful and obliging. They really did make us feel welcome
Review 99:90mins to have cooked breakfast which arrived cool and not well cooked or presented. Problem in getting Cloud WiFi. Shower almost off wall, did report. Dirty carpet & needed a lick of paint, felt unkept and uncared for. Such a shame as in lovely postion.
Review 100:Evening meal Size of Wardrobe, that had plenty of room also good sized drawers.
Review 101:Facilities are a bit old, but that goes without saying (for the entire town). I had a view of a wall out my window which is always unpleasant.
Review 102:Very nice hotel, across the road from Tewkebury Abbey, good parking, friendly staff.
Review 103:rather bland atmoshere at meal times clean and tidy but due for a refurb shower and basin don't drain well and water temp very inconsistent
Review 104:Good location nice staff value for money Good parking. Historic and great views of Abbey.
Review 105:The staff are not well trained, mostly inexperienced and not hugely friendly. Dont be fooled by the main building. Your room witll most likely be in the 70s annex at the rear. It's not a 4* hotel. Way off that, probably a respectable 2* at best
Review 106:It's very unusual. The original building has character and the setting is lovely right next to the cathedral
Review 107:noise from the kitchen fans in the morning, some parts looking a bit tired, the bar top was sticky before opening !
Review 108:nice location, decent pub food and the staff were freindly, sat out drinking in beer garden opposite abbey is great...
Review 109:unable to get a drink at the bar after 11 p.m. even if resident, Young staff it;s not what they say it's the way they say it .
Review 110:The food was lovely, our room was better than others all in all a comfortable place to stayThe cleaners were polite and freindly nothing too much trouble.
Review 111:No soap dish in shower Soap dispenser didn't work properly
Review 112:View of abbey from window Walk in gardens near hotel Convenient location Very helpful staff Comfortable bed
Review 113:shower dangerous got scalded this needs sorting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. The view out of window of a noisy extraction pipe. The window lock fell off. the room was like an oven. Dark dingy.
Review 114:Breakfast was good
Review 115:Dis-interested and unprofessional staff. Had to complain about the cleanliness and noise level of the room. Had to be reallocated a new room. Which was not much better. Dog barking in room below most of the night. Expected quaint pretty and clean room instead it was an unclean, out dated and gloomy room.
Review 116:The location close to the town and Abbey.
Review 117:The room was a bit bare and basic but it was comfortable and functional.
Review 118:The hotel was in a beautiful area. The abbey is right across the street! I don't enjoy when staff are very intrusive and I didn't get that at the Bell Hotel. They were very helpful and friendly but weren't constantly asking me if I needed anything. I knew they were available if I did. Overall quite a nice place to spend a few nights. Make sure you take a walk behind the hotel next to the water around sunset, it's absolutely beautiful.
Review 119:Breakfast was disappointing - but that wouldn't stop me staying again !
Review 120:stayed due to a family wedding at the Abbey so location was superb! Room was quiet (as requested) clean and comfy.
Review 121:Noisy extractor fan from kitchen outside the bedroom window but it was switched off at 10pm.
Review 122:Great building in an excellent location for touring the Cotswolds.helpful friendly staff.
Review 123:We were disturbed by some singing which finished at 11:30pm. It was a Friday night after all!
Review 124:It was comfortable and in an ideal situation for exploring Tewkesbury.
Review 125:Lack of staff. Waiting 45min to be served at dinner. Poor food at breakfast if one was down late.
Review 126:The lady in charge of the dinning room and bar who was charming even in adversity.
Review 127:I was in a single room which would certainly benefit from some tlc. Furniture (apart from bed which was very comfortable) rather tired and shower almost impossible to turn on.
Review 128:Staff very helpful - supplied me with gluten-free bread (even tho' they had to go and buy it!). Chambermaid kept me supplied with milk etc and room clean and tidy
Review 129:loved location which was opposite abbey and couple of minutes from river.walking distance for shops, plus ground floor accommodation, food was gorgeous, really enjoyed 2 days we spent there,
Review 130:Although advertised as early century inn, we were in the extension. En suite was extremely narrow, large person would not have made it past the sink to the toilet. Where plumbing so tight under floorboards, pipes were ticking all night from expanding and contracting, consequently I did not sleep well. Also bedroom furniture was a little shabby.
Review 131:Nice bar, restaurant. Staff were excellent throughout the whole of our stay.
Review 132:The toilet kept getting blocked and wouldn't flush away. The plug didn't let the water out without fiddling with it. The noise of the people walking about upstairs was very loud
Review 133:The room was a good size and so was the bathroom
Review 134:Room size smallish (expected) and bed was average in comfort.
Review 135:Staff was outstanding. Breakfast was traditional English and very tasty. Location across from Abbey, which is a must see and walking distance to local shops.
Review 136:Noise, paintwork, slug slime in restaurant, dangerous step up/down to bathroom/bedroom.
Review 137:Clean, breakfast good, car park, tea making facilities.
Review 138:Bill wasn't correct on checking out. Toast was served immediately we sat down not when our cooked breakfast was ready so it was cold when we come to eat it. A member of staff was vacuuming in the bar area and the flex of the vacuum was stretched at knee height directly across the route out of the breakfast area.
Review 139:Slightly hit and miss with the food; lots of it but not well cooked or presented. But edible (mainly!)
Review 140:Sensible facilities for a business traveller, iron and ironing board, decent single bed, desk/table and reliable wifi. Ample parking.
Review 141:The double bed was 2 fish fingers pushed together and not particularly comfortable, although we both slept. (Probably as we were so exhausted as Tewkesbury has a lot to see for a 1st visit). Otherwise no other comments in this section.
Review 142:The overall experience was perfectly satisfactory. The menu choices were good. The room was well away from noise even though it was not one of the ones furthest away.
