Reviews for St Christopher's Edinburgh

Review 1:1) The toilets can be cleaner and more comfortable. 2) Mouse are common in UK but no one wants to find it on corridors.

Review 2:1) Right opposite to the Edinburgh railway station, Old Town exit. 2) Very easy to access even with an escalator inside. 3) Different room type to choose from budget 22-bed room to double room. 4) Also a chilling-out zone is available for travellers who don’t want to disturb others.

Review 3:Wifi free only on the first floor and in the 2 bars. I was in the second floor. I had to get off downstairs to use the connection. No wardrobe or something to hang coats Breakfast not special. There isn't hot milk and coffee!!!

Review 4:Amazing position and sight. After one day of rain in Glasgow with clothes completely wet, it finds dry machines was a miracle. Available and kind staff.

Review 5:food was overpriced for the quality, a

Review 6:ideal to get to after arriving at train station, very handy to have choice of 2 restaurants below. Nice evening view from bedroom, access to DVD's and books useful

Review 7:The bathroom in the 14-Bed Mixed Dormitory is horrible, it wasn`t working well, the water was too hot and the shower drain was clogged. Also, there is no wifi in the rooms, only in the public areas.

Review 8:The staff is very friendly, the room is very warm and the chill out room is a very good place to chill out before go to sleep. Also, the breakfast is excellent.

Review 9:(As stated) only wifi downstairs in bars and at reception (and wasn't very reliable). Not enough room in breakfast room/pub. Noise can travel up from pubs - won't chance staying on 2nd floor if light sleeper.

Review 10:Great location. One minute from train station. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom clean. Helpful staff. Cheap!

Review 11:Very comfy bed, dark room, a great bar and excellent staff! Only stayed for half a night as I had to catch a coach and I must admit that I was sad to go. I would definitely stay again! Oh and they even offered a discount on drinks and food.

Review 12:one toilet per 8 bed dorms might be not enough for 8 people

Review 13:the location is super close to the train station. Staffs are friendly and breakfast is included.

Review 14:The wifi was a bit slow.

Review 15:The stay was very comfortable and relaxing. The money we spent for the nights was totally worth it. I go there definitely agin

Review 16:The showers were a little dirty and didn't have much access to hot water, but that's to be expected at a hostel.

Review 17:The staff were lovely and the communal rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 18:The shower is not so good as it possible to be

Review 19:Location is awesome, staff is friendly, the room looks beautiful (and the view from the window is amazing too), good breakfast

Review 20:wifi only available at level 1 and the chill out room,it was very inconvenience ...Difficult to get hot water to drink, have to go down the bar and ask the staff boil for me. Ventilation not good. Had to pay for the luggage if before the timing for check in,small locker was 1.5 pounds and the big one was 2.5 pounds...Lol...

Review 21:Good location---just opposite the train station Breakfast is good include ham, cheese, bread and jam...orange and apple juice...hot coffee...lots choices can choose... All staffs were quite nice and friendly and helpful... Safety environment...

Review 22:Poor Internet access and bad common area. Very little chill out room there - you almost feel like in jail there, in a big hostel. So not fellowshipping - friendly. No possibility to make your own tea or make simple food as I am used to is hostels. Sad because other things where very good :-)

Review 23:Good location, good room, good people at 24/7 reception

Review 24:It's unacceptable that there was no wi-fi in the rooms. You had to go to the chill out room or one of the bars in the hostel. Also the breakfast was very disappointing. They didn't even have fresh filter coffee only cheap instant.Last but not least, there was no hairdryer available which in a cold city like Edinburgh constitutes major health risk.

Review 25:The location was absolutely perfect, everything was 5 minutes away on foot. The staff was also remarkably helpful and kind.

Review 26:the room was small dirty uncomfortable generally unpleasant for the money charged never again would we stay in such a pig sty it was horrible ,disgusting place

Review 27:the last night so we could get out of filthy place

Review 28:very dirty bedding - hairs and stains. I was really happyI had my sleeping bag breakfast is included in the price but no packed breakfast for early check out.

Review 29:location - close to train station + amazing view surprisingly comfortable bed staff were accommodating when I asked for a bottom bunk bed due to ankle injury. Actually I asked for it in the booking but wasn't taken into account but when mentioned it, they changed my bed.

Review 30:It is pretty messed up at the ground floor. The lady at the bar is hardly friendly and the luggage locker is not user-friendly.

Review 31:It is really close to the train station and the bus station to airport.

Review 32:No wifi available in the rooms. Hang out room very dated and in need of some renovating. Same with the dorm rooms.

Review 33:The location is excellent. Right off of the royal mile.

Review 34:no wifi in room... but i'm ok with it... i have data sim card through out my uk travel

Review 35:FREE LAUNDRY including washing powder... free ear plug... free breakfast... close to center... staff give good suggestion to activities to do... availability of lift...

Review 36:The only thing that was a bit bothersome was the fact that the hostel is very open to the public; people who weren't even staying in the hostel were in the common spaces late in the evening.

Review 37:The location was right in between Prince's Street and the Royal Mile, which made everything conveniently close; the staff were very friendly and helpful; and the room itself was much cleaner than I was expecting. And all at a great price!

Review 38:the bed have no curtain for privacy, I like the one in Paris more where the bed have USB charger, a light and a curtain.

Review 39:The location is just soooooooo right its very near to everything just a walk to most sights and major train and buses and airport bus

Review 40:I had two days reservation and I had to change the room after the first day so that was a bit of inconvenient but apart from that everything was great.

Review 41:Foam mattress sagged and uncomfortable.main security doors outside bedrooms would slam heavy shut all times of day/night

Review 42:Location and the people I'd meet there . Great bar

Review 43:Maybe a bit too cold in the room.

Review 44:Very nice and friendly staff. Appreciated the developed system of lockers! Enjoyed the free city tour. The location absolutely perfect.

Review 45:Great central location with easy access to all touristy locations. Good value meals, drinks and entertainment at both pubs. Stayed in a 4 bed dorm which was spacious comfortable and clean.

Review 46:Wifi can only be accessed on ground floor and not in the bedroom. Male staff suddenly entered the room to clean dust bin without notice.

Review 47:The location was great, easy access to Waverley train station and lots of shops. The staff were really friendly and helpful, will answer all your questions with patience. The breakfast was tasty.

Review 48:everything! The room in the roof for two people is so old and small. They said there is a window in the room, oh please there only a glass on the roof! The washing room is very small too and the hand wash basin one side is hot water the otherside side is cold water and they can't come out together! oh is so ridiculous! We stayed two nights and the room service only change one floor towel for us! After all, the expencive charge is very unvaluable( we stay £150 for one night, the charge should be like 4star hotel!)! And the last thing, the breakfast, you can't imagine how poor it is!!

Review 49:nothing

Review 50:The dorms are tiny and it's really hot in there. Also, it would be great to have wifi in rooms. I was a bit bothered by bumping my head in bed every time i get up.

Review 51:Great location, nice mood around, bar just downstairs with concerts, friendly staff. I'd choose the same if i ever travel back to Edinburgh.

Review 52:I stayed in 2 different rooms. 1 room had only 1 shower/WC for 10 people. In the other dorm there were 2 showers, but very mouldy. There wasn't sufficient ventilation. The bathrooms were a bit shabby. No reading or smaller lights in the bedrooms, which is a bit annoying if you have to leave really early and don't want to wake up the other people in the room. Lack of a kitchen.

Review 53:Great breakfast room, really helpful staff and a great location, although a bit noisy during the weekend.

Review 54:It would be better if there were more sockets in rooms...

Review 55:Location is excellent - it's just next to the railway station and close to all city sights. Comfortable beds and nice breakfast.

Review 56:If u want to extend, make sure the price is right! The price for the room changes when u book it again at the table and they won't inform u of it! Besides, no Wifi in the room.

Review 57:Overall Clean and free locker

Review 58:Rm 46 dirty filthy problem with plumbing foul awful smell very unhealthy. Just 1night last minute booking...... Next time i do more research.. In to accommodation . But I learned from the experience.! Ill have to stake out - stalk the next property! If a plumbing problem is within a room, it must be closed for health & safety reasons.. Health code! I did rest for 2 hours did not feel safe check out early!

Review 59:Great location, disappointed at the lack of car park and had to pay 24hour+ at local car park totalling extra £25 for my stay! Rooms are what they are me and my daughter had a attic room with amazing view, no tv in the room, not to bad as there's so much to outside

Review 60:no wifi in the rooms, only in the leisure rooms and the bar

Review 61:Spent only one night there, but the live music was so great that I Ieft the hostel only after 1 am, although the festival was raging all around the city

Review 62:Although having wifi in the chill out room and in the bar restaurant only is a great idea to meet people, it will be helpful to have it in the rooms as well.

Review 63:The staff was friendly and helpful. The location of the hostel is perfect, just in front of the Edinburgh's train station and few meters from the bus that travels from and to the airport. Great location to visit the Royal Mile and other amazing Edinburgh's land marks by foot.

Review 64:they didnt change my bed and blanket sheet after previous guest. It was the busy time during my stay so things were just a bit mess up.

Review 65:the location. friendly staff. it was fun to make friend with other people in the dorm

Review 66:Some roommates were careless of sleeping people

Review 67:Chill-out room Free lockers Beds were surprisingly comfortable Free breakfast Free printing Friendly staff

Review 68:We were in a private room with a double-bed. The room was very small, around the bed was only about half a meter space to walk around. No space to put the baggage somewhere. No clothes-hook or clothes-hanger in the entire room, so you can imagine the disorder we had in our room. Shower as tight as the rest of the room, temperature of the water difficult to choose and sometimes it got hotter or colder spontaneously! Considering the expensive price I cannot recommend a private room in this hostel. There are much better alternatives in Edinburgh (I found a hotel that was cheaper but much more comfortable than this hostel).

Review 69:The staff was friendly and helpful, the location is good. Breakfast not superb, but ok for a hostel. The water-pressure of the shower was good.

Review 70:No wifi in the room; chill out room was dark and not really a place I wanted to be or hang out or wait for others; no kitchen at all, only small microwave and (full) minifridge.

Review 71:Location, and view from room, was great

Review 72:Very friendly staff!easy location to transportation! Only a couple minutes walk to the royal mile for the majority of the main tourist attractions!

Review 73:The reception area is very small and there is a lot of traffic in the hostel. Also I was in a six person room with a shared bathroom but my bathroom didn't work for the entire time I was there. They tried fixing it but it was still leaking so that was a definite inconvenience. Also, the free wifi I believe was only in the common areas and the breakfast ended really early.

Review 74:The location of the hostel was great. It was directly across from the train station and very close to all of the major tourist points. The staff was cool and it was cool to have two bars in the building.

Review 75:On the day I check in, although the bed is tidy and seems to be clean. There are some some crumble under the bed liners which I quite unacceptable.

Review 76:The bed is really comfortable for the whole group. The location is great, 1 min from the train station. The staff is very friendly. Very clean toilet.

Review 77:The locker is quite dangerous. My head was hit by the cover of thelocker when I was packing. My roommate also had the same problem. Youshould pay more attention when packing.

Review 78:The location is really good. I only spent 3 minutes to the trainstation.

Review 79:The fifth floor hadc creaky floorboards and were unstabilly bouncy. Also there wasn't really a place to change; I used the shower to change.

Review 80:The location was central to everything you would want to go to. The showers were ice and the bed was great! I would suggest getting a hot breakfast made by the kitchen at least once.

Review 81:The luggage room where full so we had to leave our luggage in the train station and the 5th floor has no direct elevator access which makes it complicated with a heavy luggage

Review 82:The private room has a nice view

Review 83:Stayed one night and the switched to another hostel. There was throw up in the bathroom and generally not clean. Also one of the roommates didn't understand hostel culture and played music all night and snored heavily.

Review 84:close to train station and easy to find upon exit! Bar had good live music.

Review 85:There is an ensuite bathroom for 10 in the dorm, which was clean enough and had toilet paper and soap but the vent, the shower, the toilet, the electric toothbrush - you hear everything and there is bound to be someone who needs a late night pee.

Review 86:The hostel is in a great location, next to Waverly. I only stayed for one night so it was important to be near transport and to get a good sleep, as much as possible in a dorm. I appreciated to be placed in a room that was at the end of the corridor and nobody was passing by it (e.g. not near the chillout zone). The breakfast is simple but you have everything you need.

Review 87:Wifi on the first floor only My bed (not linen) was a bit dirty

Review 88:It is not close to the city center, because it IS in the center! The view from my window was so spectacular! The hostel is in 3 minutes walk from the airport bus stop. These 3 minutes you would enjoy a magnificent view of the old city. Really nice staff! The shower and toilet were in the room and were really clean and comfortable.

Review 89:The lockers were always full. I couldn't put my luggage there after I checked out.

Review 90:Clean and tidy room. Free breakfast. Ensuite toilet. Free upgrade.

Review 91:Charged twice and afterwards make it difficult for customer to get the refund back. It makes me spend my precious time in the bank afterwards.

Review 92:Clean room and bathroom.

Review 93:The common areas were sometimes to small for the amount of people that wanted to use them.

Review 94:The location is perfect, the wifi is really good, and the staff was really friendly.

Review 95:No self-serving kitchen. In the first 24 h after arriving I had to go back down to the reception three times to get my keycard re-programmed because I couldn't open the door to my room.

Review 96:Good location; I arrived to the bus station and it is just a short walk (train station just next to the hostel). Friendly staff. I booked a bed in a room for 14 people but ended up in a room for 4. Breakfast is included, nothing special but gives a good start to the day.

Review 97:The free wifi was no accessible from my room. To use it I had to go to the pub or the common room.

Review 98:The hostel was just steps away from Edinburgh's most amazing sights, and equally close to the train station and airport shuttle bus.

Review 99:The staff seemed a bit frazzled and overworked but were friendly and helpful.

Review 100:You cannot get a better location for the money. The hostel was clean and pleasant. The rooms are basic clean and airy with lots of natural light. I could see New Town right from my bunk bed. The hostel is right around the corner from the AirTram shuttle to the airport. I made it to the airport with time to spare. Nice and clean lodgings with a great location.

Review 101:The neighbours were noisy and walls thin. Our bed was not comfortable, it was a creaking one. Space in the room on the top floor was limited, we could not stand up straight.

Review 102:Good location.

Review 103:Two of four sockets didn't work, no WIFI in the rooms, the locks were sold out, needed to put all stuff in the public locks, very annoying (if you put stuff in there, don't pay for it, it will close autimatically, just enter a pin)

Review 104:Perfect location, good breakfast for a hostel

Review 105:The common room ( where one could access wifi) was dark and crowded with inadequate seating.

Review 106:The breakfast was one of the best I have experienced at a hostel.

Review 107:The location is unbeatable, spot on in the city centre. The staff was very friendly and helped and advised me on how to organise my day. The hostel is cramped as it's in a city with reduced spaced availability, but is big in itself, with many beds. The premises are simple but good. There is an elevator for the ones not wanting to take the stairs to the fourth floor, the bed was already made and comfy. Showers basic, clean.

Review 108:No plates in the lounge to use with microwave.

Review 109:the staff was very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great. The bathroom was clean. The room was spacious with a city view. You can find everything around the hostel. The breakfast was good.

Review 110:The room was not ready (although we came around 9 pm) and the stuff was apperantly not oware of that- we received the key card and discovered inhabitated room, which just occured not to be cleaned after previous guests.

Review 111:Location was more than convinient, price was also very good, considering breakfast included. Although wifi is only available in one bar (there are 2 on ground floor of the biulding, but they were'nt very noisy) and in common area on the 1st floor (my room was on 3rd floor)

Review 112:they should put some wifi routers at upper floors.

Review 113:staff was so helpful. location cannot be better. my room was so fancy and big. bed was comfy. wifi was strong but only on ground and 1st floor.

Review 114:The shower was a bit smelly. The WiFi only only worked in the lounge which was a bit of an annoyance.

Review 115:The bed was clean and the staff helpful. The bed next to me was occupied by couple who were having sex, but it was an attractive couple so I didn't mind. The location couldn't be better.

Review 116:Free luggage storage is only available in the room when you bring your own padlock. Otherwise there´s only lockers available for which you have to pay. The shower jet was pretty weak and there was only very hot water (14 bed mixed dorm). Also, there were only two showers for 14 people, which was sufficient because the dorm was only half full, but it might turn a problem during high season. During rush hour, there was too little room in the breakfast area. It would be a good idea to have two separate queues for the toaster and the rest of the buffet, so people don´t have to wait for ever for the toast being ready.

Review 117:The staff is very friendly and helpful! The location is perfect! Just opposite the train station... For a hostel there´s a really nice breakfast, with cheese and bacon, yoghourt and four different kinds of cereal. Our 14 beds dorm was really clean and beautiful and the beds were very comfortable. Showers and bathrooms are attached to the room. There's a really recommendable free tour. There's a nice bar/pub attached to the hostel, with cheap meals and special discounts for hostel members.

Review 118:The showers/light were too noisy, the ceiling light is very dim and there were no individual lamps available.

Review 119:Location couldn't be better, close to the train and bus station in the city centre where it is walking distance to most attractions.

Review 120:The toilet was not separated for women and men so It was quite embrassing when I met men in there.

Review 121:Closed to city center ; between the old town and new town Kind staffs ; there were so kind and always smiled Nice breakfast ; it was free so I didnt expect anything but that was alright Discounts on the food and drinks at next bar _I stayed in 6 dormitory room but there was only a guy more so it was very comfortable to stay and sleep. The showeroom near my room have only 3~4 room and narrow but each booth have a space for changing the clothes so was impressive to me (Usually cheap hostel doesnt have that).

Review 122:Just that I had a request for help refused by one member of staff, which turned out to cost me 17 pounds because of her not helping me.

Review 123:in Market Street, near The Castle and The Royal Mile, not very far from Arthur's seat ... Location is SUPERB!

Review 124:It would be perfect if had a kitchen.

Review 125:The staff is the greatest. The location is awesome. The breakfast is excellent for a budget hostel. The rooms have nice environment.

Review 126:the shower room is not very clean. Wifi doesn't work in my room.

Review 127:the stuff were friendly and kind. When I was in trouble with my locker, they were so helpful.

Review 128:Not enough seat and space in the bar for the breakfast. No wifi in the room so a lot of people sit in the common room and there is not enough seat too. The heating in the room is not enough and the room is quite cold.

Review 129:The refill of breakfast is quite fast. The room with beautiful view.

Review 130:The shower inside the bedroom was not working, so we had to go to the shared showers. The wifi worked only in the ground floor.

Review 131:Very well located and the bedroom was also very good.

Review 132:The bathroom may renew. It may not be comfortable and suitable for longer stays.

Review 133:location was perfect and the price was quite good for the place, location and facilities.

Review 134:I didn't like the change in weekend rates being around double the price for a mid-week night. I'd stay t another hostel for the weekend because the price will be the same but I'd imagine the quality and comfort would be higher. The location is good but after staying a couple days it is not any better than many other hostels.

Review 135:I liked how friendly the staff are and how inexpensive the rates are during the week. I liked the location. It is right next to the train station with a very visible sign so if you are in Edinburgh for the first time it will be an easy pace to find and practically on the royal mile. Included breakfast is a big plus and 25% off food ordered in the bar was a really nice perk! I got a full rack of ribs and was able to share a huge meal with 3 other travelers for around 8 pounds. I prefer hostels since it attracts unique travelers that are open to meet new people. I was able to meet nice people, mutrally complain about St Christophers with them and tour Edinburgh with new friends. Had a gat time!

Review 136:It was really busy so I understand that the showers weren't always the cleanest, the cleaning staff was awesome but it would've been hard to keep up with that many people without cleaning 24/7. No hot water wasn't awesome, but staff were great about giving you passes to the showers that did work. Wifi sucked sometimes but overall, hey it happens. Would've liked a kitchen but the staff was also great about giving you plates and such from the restaurant. For 6 pounds plus free breakfast;I can't complain, despite it being a bit rough around the edges.

Review 137:The staff was wonderful; breakfast ample, beds comfy and I met a ton of great people...it was close to everything in Edinburgh, made it really easy to get around

Review 138:Stayed for 2 nights (not consecutive) and both beds weren't comfortable and showers were cold.

Review 139:Very close to train station and good bar downstairs. Great location!

Review 140:The wi-fi was not working on the high floors and doesn't have a Kitchen for the guests.

Review 141:The rooms and booking value was good and good cleanning hostel.

Review 142:I liked the beds. Linen changed regularly. Not too cramped. Stayed on the 1st floor which has wifi in room and I had en suite bathroom. Baskets under beds that can be locked with your own padlock for luggage but also lockers in chillout room for rent. Good breakfast for free. A great stay.
