Reviews for St Ives Harbour Hotel & Spa
Review 1:The Staff were friendly and helpful. The parking was free. The location was great. I left an item behind when I checked out, and this was posted for me the next day.
Review 2:Quality of food in the restaurant could be improved to be befitting of the quality of the rest of the hotel and its staff.
Review 3:Location, service, spa treatments and decor of bedrooms
Review 4:the last couple of times we have come we have felt the service as slipped and his more robotic we had a couple if small complaints i pre ordered some drink as a surprise as ut was my husband bday it wasnt in room and i had to remind the 3 times i eventually got it kate at night as we were going to bed then the lightbulb in our room exploding over bed whilst we were getting dressed we reported it straight away and a maintaince guy came to look replaced bulb but they didntt clear up any glass and so we had to continue to pack and get ready with glass everywhere I know its a busy hotel but I feel they should get the personal charm back.
Review 5:we love this hotel we gave been here about 11 times and we got married here so avlot of special memories is why we return
Review 6:My only criticism would be the lack of mirrors in the bedroom. There was only one small mirror in the bedroom and it was a mirror that distorts, so the only way to get ready was in the bathroom making it difficult if using a hairdryer or straighteners. No full length mirror at all.
Review 7:The staff were excellent. We ate in the restaurants on both of our nights in St Ives. The location was amazing. I can only imagine that in the summer it would be a great place to stay.
Review 8:Slow service at breakfast time on 1st day. 2nd day waitress got order wrong.
Review 9:Great location and views. Friendly reception and bar staff. Lovely pool and hot tub.
Review 10:The room was quite small for the price we paid and it lacked some of the touches that hotels of this category usually offer, such as a safe, a pad of paper and a pen, robes and slippers and a little fridge/minibar. The bed's duvet was duck feathers: noisy and too hot for the mild weather we had during our stay. The bathroom fan was in need of a good clean.
Review 11:Location is ideal as the property sits on top of the hill overlooking st.Ives and one can easily walk down to the beach and town centre The staff is friendly and helpful. Garage Is included. The spa is well designed (albeit quite small) and relaxing although if You are planino to have a treatment there you should book way ahead of your visit as they don't seem to offer priority booking to hotel residents. The restaurant has a lovely view of the beach and the food and service were good. There is a lovely bar and sitting room area we found very relaxing and ideal for reading.
Review 12:Drinks rather over priced. Local pub £3.50 for double disarano and Coke. Hotel £8.50. Nothing more was bad
Review 13:They let us check in early. Staff friendly. Stunning hotel with great views
Review 14:Restaurant food was average at best. Breakfast has all the essentials but ingredients not best quality and dinner was rushed except the wine which took ages to come. That said view was immense from the restaurant especially during breakfast when sun came up and staff were friendly.
Review 15:Great view from the room, comfortable bed and swimming pool suitable for babies during family times which was great.
Review 16:It didnt effect us but the lift didnt work, i saw one lady struggling on the stairs. The road out front is a bit busy and intimidating when unloading luggage.
Review 17:We had a lovely room overlooking the sea, it was perfect. The staff were so pleasent, cheerful and helpful and the food and bar were excellent. We'd read some poor reviews which we find hard to believe as we had a fabulous stay here, better than several other more expensive hotels.
Review 18:Room very small, no full length mirror in hotel that we could find, heater coming off wall and damp patches on ceiling. Wobbly toilet seat.
Review 19:Bar and restaurant very good
Review 20:The piped music was awful. If music is required to create an atmosphere, it should be calming in areas such as the sitting rooms and restaurant.
Review 21:Location, Terrace restaurant Spa facilities Breakfast
Review 22:Bedrooms on all our visits have been poor. Shabby decoration, very poor lighting levels, last visit very noises through the night due to kitchen location adjacent to bedroom window, bed very uncomfortable.
Review 23:Staff, food, leisure facilities
Review 24:Perfect hotel in a perfect location Superb bed, even looked at the make too purchase one myself, lovely decorated rooms and lounge areas, attentive staff, would recommend and will look forward to the next stay
Review 25:First room cold, lots of traffic noise, pedestrians could see into room, cramped bathroom that was freezing. Spa area was good but treatment not up to what I expected, left feeling disappointed afterwards. Lift was an experience.
Review 26:Second room offered 100% better than first. Great staff, great menu, very flexible to keep you happy . Hotel clean and well kept. Spa was also clean and well run.
Review 27:We had mentioned it was our 20th anniversary on booking. It would have been nice for someone to wish us happy anniversary. The bed was uncomfortable. Shower far too small. It was dusty in the room. It would have been nice for reception staff to tell us about what was going on in St Ives.
Review 28:The facial I had was great and good value. The spa was quiet, nice pool. The view at breakfast was stunning. Loved hearing the sea in our room.
Review 29:Initially given a room that the passing public could look into and see everything in daylight. No net curtains (room 112) Given a room upgrade/ change that they wanted £10 extra a night for. I refused.(To Room 103) very loose toilet seat reported. Still wasn't fixed after 24 hours (room 103) Tiny quadrant shower cubicle with protruding temp' regulator. Easily knocked and be scalded (room 103) Bathroom extractor fan not working leading to running condensation on bedroom window which could not be opened. (room 103). This was reported on leaving. Two separate instances in the restaurant where parts of my meal order were forgotten.........and it was nowhere busy, so no excuses.(3 night stay) No reading lamps in either lounge. Lighting was for lovers. Had to return to my room to read.
Review 30:Superb location, great views over town and bay. Only 7 min walk into town Very clean Well trained and obliging staff (on the whole) Excellent car valet parking service
Review 31:The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The swimming pool and health facilities are excellent . The food was out of this world.
Review 32:Perhaps a little noisy.
Review 33:What a lovely stay. We got upgraded to a room overlooking the sea. The bed was super comfy and the room was clean and in good conditions. The spa is fantastic as well, not to mention the perfectly served breakfast. The staff also deserve a mention - super helpful and nice.
Review 34:Hotel was beautiful only down side was ,I didn't think bedrooms were 4 star ,but don't let that put you off ,I would go again loved it .
Review 35:Staff couldn't do enough for you ,even went out their way to talk to us ,welldone to the staff,it also felt very comfortable in the lounge ,restaurant was facing the sea so beautiful views while having breakfast .
Review 36:I had a drink at the bar and asked for a copy of the menu for that evening. It was 5.45 and it was not available. I was still waiting 15 mins later and was not brought the menu. I then decided to eat out. The young lady in the restaurant was very unfriendly when i asked if the bacon was grilled?? no warm welcome there, a little off putting when i am the only person in the restaurant on my own. Not even asked once if all was ok with the breakfast any more tea etc.... I would definately return, but goes to show how one person can change your views on a good hotel.
Review 37:I liked the warm welcome at reception, the help of the concierge with parking of my car.
Review 38:The room was very small and dark, the bed wasn't that comfy, a bit lumpy. For £185 I expected a bit more for my money.....
Review 39:Great location, nice hotel
Review 40:Bedding just didn't meet American expectations but we understand being in a foreign country has limitations. Advise management to make investment in bedding to match their efforts in restoring old beachfront hotel.
Review 41:View & access to harbor town.
Review 42:Lovely welcome, perfect position, wonderful view from the super room.we really enjoyed our stay.meals a bit expensive, but snacks really good.pool and steam room amazing .
Review 43:Nothing
Review 44:lovely hotel and facilities. The pool was open late until 9pm which allowed you to be out all day and have a swim, sauna etc before evening meal. Staff wer very friendly and helpful.
Review 45:We loved this hotel, the location is perfect, just about five minutes walk into the main town. The restaurant served delicious food and the breakfasts were terrific. Our room was so comfy and seaview terrific.
Review 46:Appallingly loud music until 1am from the venue room in the hotel. Wewere three floors away from it but it was terrible. We left the hotel at11.40pm and returned home as the noise was that bad.Do not stay here ifthere is a wedding or function on, the noise will ruin your stay.
Review 47:Location.
Review 48:The bedside lights were inadequate for reading in bed On one of the washbasins the plug was faulty. One of the hinges on the wardrobe had become detached.
Review 49:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was excellent. The room was spacious, warm and comfortable.
Review 50:Bedroom - booked a twin, specified for my granddaughter and I. Given a king size bed with linen of 1sheet and 1 duvet, not good. Window blind had broken cord to raise and lower, no curtains so very inconvenient. Room overlooked the busy road.
Review 51:Food & restaurant, view stunning Staff polite and friendly.
Review 52:Issue with staff noise outside of bedroom window, partly due to proximity to kitchens I wouldn't expect this to be a regular occurence, nonetheless the hotel took trouble to recompence us for the trouble
Review 53:The courteous and professional way in which my issue was handled
Review 54:Parking was a little hazardous, had to go down a very steep road, which was a bit precarious in a large 4x4, especially if something was coming in the opposite direction !!
Review 55:Location, sea views, good facilities.
Review 56:Minor faults in the bathroom. Bath/shower system very confusing and lavatory flush system kept flowing until we tapped the flush again. Another soap i.e. one for bath and one for basin would have been nice. Bath robes would have been a nice touch but were provided after we asked.
Review 57:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Good breakfasts in dining room with a good sea view. Would certainly book again.
Review 58:Noisy room, builders outside the window one morning! Some of the cooking was below standard. No security , anyone off the street could access the corridors. No safe.
Review 59:Excellent position for a break. Very good pool and sauna. Good bed.
Review 60:Parking was an issue, the room itself was not value for money. Dated. No view. Prices should be a lot cheaper for rooms not sea facing.
Review 61:The facilities in the room were great, bed, shower etc all great. Location great.
Review 62:Wifi worse than my countryside internet at home. Only possible on windowsill in room and only worked on phone there. Hard if you need to work etc
Review 63:Beautiful location, room had sea view. Spa was wonderful. Grateful for valet parking
Review 64:From start to finish all the staff we came into contact with were really friendly and could not have done more to help us. The room was fantastic with an amazing view and the beds were so comfy. The facilities were A✨ and the Spa area was pure luxury. What a fantastic find in this lovely part of the country. I can't wait to visit again. Thank you for a truely memorable stay, I can't thank everyone enough for helping me give my mum a real treat.
Review 65:Restaurant food not very inspiring, and poorly presented! There was not allways a member of staff behind the Terrace Bar to serve guests. Our room was on third floor, and a couple of nights, we were kept awake by loud drum and base music from the staff quarters above us, on the second occassion we called the night porter, and the music soon stopped!
Review 66:Good position, just above the the beach, 10/15 minutes walk into the centre of St Ives.
Review 67:Although the room was a good size, very clean, the beds were wobbly and the windows very old they rattled a lot. The one wall light was not working but was fixed as soon as I reported it, there was no "Fluffy" Bathrobe or flannel provided.
Review 68:The location was great, the amenities were good although I did not use. the hotel was very clean and staff very pleasant.
Review 69:Been to this hotel many times and love it but each time we go breakfast gets smaller and smaller with my family and had to complain about smoked haddock size was laughable really disappointing !! Need to start improving hotel quite expensive no longer value for money, becoming greedy I think
Review 70:Position, staff surroundings
Review 71:Restaurant wasn't very clean. Hotel needs painting. Breakfast was ok. I would have expected more for the price of £175 for the room and breakfast.
Review 72:Spa facilities and pool and view from restaurant.
Review 73:Wasn't told on booking that there was a wedding and parts of the hotel out of bounds , so couldn't sit outside and enjoy the view, the room was very bland , and not worth £280 , we have stayed in better premier inn rooms
Review 74:The view , parking , and breakfast were all very good
Review 75:Lights kept fusing in one of the rooms so had to ask for compensation. Although £75 discount was agreed this should have been offered automatically.
Review 76:Excellent facilities with great views. Although our room was quite dark with quite a bit of road noise.
Review 77:Beautiful views of St Ives bay. Excellent breakfast and choices. Leisure facilities Gymn, bars ,etc close proximity to St Ives and friendliness of the staff.
Review 78:The staff at Breakfast.. The main waiter Kris? Looked very miserable and so did most of the other staff. The dining area for breakfast was really loud, acoustics of the room awful. Asked for more toast, didn't get it. Stay not worth what we paid. Would not stay there again.
Review 79:First room offered was a "beige" and bland space. Not the interior designed look shown on the web site. Staff were brilliant though and offered us an alternative room that was perfect!
Review 80:Excellent location, great décor in common parts, wonderful views from the restaurant. Would stay again.
Review 81:although I asked for quite upper level room in advance we were given a very noisy small and uncomfortable room on the second floor facing busy road. I asked to change the room but given an opption to take twin room on the same level just 2 doors from ours.We could not rest or enjoy our special weekend at all. The only option was to pay £ 50.0 extra for an upgrade on the top of £175.0 a night! Not a value for money at all and very disappoiting.
Review 82:Spa facilities and location was good
Review 83:Nothing at all. The only thing was that we had to leave and I couldn't move in!
Review 84:Amazing. The entrance was spotless and so inviting. The reception staff were so welcoming and attentive. More then happy to let us store our luggage due to the 3pm check-in. When we got to our room it was so beautifully decorated. The bed was so comfortable and you can tell the bedding was expensive. The shower is amazing and the room albeit fairly small had a wonderful partial sea view which we didn't even pay for! Plenty of storage and was right next to the reception so really handy for asking questions. The grounds were beautiful and the rest of the hotel was immaculate and offered plenty of things to do if you decide to stay at the hotel. The breakfast was so tasty and had so much to offer. Stunning views of Porthminster Beach and bottomless juice! :). The best bit: The Spa. The facilities are included in stay price. The pool is stunning and a nice temperature/size. The jacuzzi was so luxurious and the whole area had yet again stunning views. Amazing to watch the sunrise whilst we took a morning swim. The steam and sauna were so luxe. I especially loved the Swedish style sauna. Perfect temperature. And the changing facilities were perfectly stocked and had handy lockers and even a swimming costume dryer! Cannot fault this place at all. Perfect!
Review 85:The way we were treated from start to finish was fantastic. Because of this, I will now always come back to this hotel. Super location, super view, super staff! What more could you want!
Review 86:Room 121 felt like we were in servants quarters! The window was stuck and couldn't be closed. The room was not too clean. However, the receptionist was extremely helpful and re located us to room 308, which was much better.
Review 87:The location and staff
Review 88:After a night in different hotels for a week this had to be the worst value for money. The chlorine was far to strong in the spa and has to be the worst place for coffee, breakfast and bar coffees. Only hotel I have never had an email back, email sent to two different email addresses before arrival.
Review 89:Fell into bathroom over a high step from bedroom . Couldn't get hot water from bath taps. Poor restaurant service at lunch time.
Review 90:Very smart interior. efficient staff
Review 91:Bed was too small for my 6'2" body and the window rattled in the wind. Difficult to find car park entrance - not enough clear signs, if any!
Review 92:Good location and good food.
Review 93:The price of the hotel for the room we were given. Not happy.
Review 94:The staff were brilliant. Could not ask for a more helpful team. Made us feel so welcome.
Review 95:Room a bit dated and too large for furniture present!! Felt like something was missing in it. Also very small window in the room. Unable to book any spa treatments due too unavailability of therapists.
Review 96:Dinner was not what we expected. A bit of fresh fruits and vegetables with dinner would be better. A more healthy options.
Review 97:Good cleaning and quiet location. Excellent breakfast and friendly staff
Review 98:Room was quite small for a double. Only one easy chair in room, so one person had to sit on the bed. No space for another chair, Shower in bathroom very small. Nowhere to put shower gel etc whilst in shower.
Review 99:Very welcoming and friendly staff. Well furnished room. Excellent food, although a bit pricey. Guest facilities excellent. Close proximity to beach and town centre.
Review 100:Restaurant closed at 9 so couldn't enjoy the inclusive D from the DB&B package even though called at 8.30. We had been delayed by being diverted to assist in finding an aircraft suffering an emergency, but our heroics were unrewarded!
Review 101:Nice hotel
Review 102:I booked by mistake a standard room and couldn'd change that. Nevertheless for £195 in a little harbour town and out of season, I was expecting something decent. I didn't get it.The hotel is old and dejected. The room on a passing steet was hardly big enough for the bed. The only window was dirty and cracked in two places. The window and the door were so old that they banged and creacked all night.By giving me the worst room in their hotel, these people insulted me. They also insulted you. They have to be taken out of your lists immediately. If anything like this happens to me again, I am off Booking.com
Review 103:Nothing really - if I was picky the water pressure was low and I couldn't work out the bath plug! Had a shower instead!
Review 104:The location was wonderful - sea swim before breakfast followed by coffee cheerfully brought to me on the terrace; easy access to town for art galleries and dinner in the evening. All the staff were very welcoming.
Review 105:Hotel has old sash single glazed windows with no curtain just a simple blind, so our room on road side was unbearably noisy. We got no sleep so cancelled the second night. Maintenance poor - 2 lights out in bathroom and one bedside light not working. Heavy mirror was totally unsecured, leaning on window sill and had to be moved to open or close window blind. Wi fi not functional in room.
Review 106:Views from restaurant and bar stunning. Food OK not better at the price
Review 107:Were given Room 217 at first, but above spa so very strong of chlorine so best to avoid! But they found us another room for each of other 2 nights so all good in end
Review 108:Corridors to rooms and our room and bathroom smelt of fish. Something we had noticed before but thought it was because we were near kitchen but clearly not. When there is wedding there are restrictions. Think guests should be told
Review 109:Near to beach and town. Lovely view.
Review 110:The hotel is very tired looking, it needs a lot of work to make it good. The lift system is inadequate, often having to walk up the stairs as guests have not closed the doors! No mirror in bedroom.... totally unacceptable. The car parking is poor, it does not tell you that your car will be parked somewhere else! Also you may have to wait 20 mins for it to be collected. Wedding parties seem to have priority... foot paths to hotel not in use when weddings on.... 5 night stay, 4 weddings!!
Review 111:The location for views of the beach is great, for walking into St Ives also
Review 112:Parking is a little complicated, as it is located across the road in another building, away from the main reception entrance. However, the porter helps you with your luggage across the road and also valet parks your car.
Review 113:The view from the hotel restaurant and the sea view room were very good. Food in the restaurant was very good and we particularly enjoyed afternoon tea. Staff were also very friendly and the customer service in general was also very good.
Review 114:Room was above the kitchen and very noisy at night. Room smelt damp and was small. Disorganised car parking. Room refreshments such as hot chocolate, biscuits, bottled water were not replaced which is disappointing for nearly £190 a night. Breakfast was chaotic.
Review 115:Spa was excellent. Very good location. Breakfast had an excellent view and breakfast food was very nice.
Review 116:Poorly prepared room with pubic hair in the shower, room did not smell fresh and a pair of socks (not ours) were found in the room. The room was exceedingly noisy and overpriced and sleep quality was close to zero.
Review 117:The car was parked for us -nice welcome and quality food used for breakfast
Review 118:Paint coming off walls, buttons in bed head missing, picture on wall askew, 2 single beds pushed together to make a double (not even joined properly - so separating), no wifi available in rooms, only in public areas and even then really really bad signal
Review 119:View from dining room, luxurious looking lounge
Review 120:The wifi is hopeless to the point where you need to leave the hotel to access the Internet. The staff were all pleasant but inexperienced and sometimes appeared in a muddle. It is not possible to order food when a wedding is in progress because of concern about kitchen noise affecting the ceremony. The spa pool is also the children's play pool during the daytime, although was always fine for swimming before 10am.
Review 121:The location was superb. The room and bed very comfortable. The spa facility was good. Early morning the gym and pool were accessable and good. The sun terrace is superb a perfect sheltered sun trap which enabled sunbathing even when too cold elsewhere in St Ives
Review 122:Very very small rooms, staff some good some rude. Breakfast cold scrambled egg and undercooked fried eggs. Hotel tired and in need of decoration upstairs. Spa awful full of children screaming throwing balls taking over the changing rooms so you can't move, not the relaxing four star break I expected, very very overpriced. Disappointed won't be returning.
Review 123:Location and dinner amazing .
Review 124:Adult only in the restaurant after a certain time.
Review 125:Food was amazing at breakfast time and in the morning. Also staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
Review 126:The room was very poor for the cost . Very small, right on road and next to kitchen - therefore very noisy . ( reception staff very helpful and changed room for second night - room was better , but still quite costly fur what it was )
Review 127:Location fantastic Good facilities at hotel Good breakfast Friendly receptionist
Review 128:Wifi is advertised but is not accessible throughout the building. It would have been useful for researching things to do in rainy weather and for making bookings but not a major problem .
Review 129:Very friendly and helpful staff. Parking spaces are like gold dust in St Ives but the staff were very helpful in parking our car and returning it to us when we wanted it.
Review 130:Very very poor value for money. For £235 a night you expect and can get a lovely hotel in a great location - even in a major city. The hotel did not match this price on decor (a little tired) or room quality. We had to argue to get moved to a room facing the sea, which was much better but still not good value. Our first room was very noisy from the road and frankly run down.
Review 131:The location and the Spa were great.
Review 132:Room at rear looking at a stone wall no veiw from tiny window. Also service in resturant poor Waited two hours for dinner and also for breakfast poor service.hair in butter on table.
Review 133:Location of hotel and
Review 134:For the price, the hotel did not even provide shower caps and cotton buds. The shampoo, shower gel and conditioner were not replenished in the second day.
Review 135:Location is good.
Review 136:The room was disappointing. The picture on the website was not a true reflection of the actual room. We were expecting better.
Review 137:Location to beach and town. Restaurant and lounge bar, spa suite .
The Fine Print
