Reviews for Broomhill Art Hotel

Review 1:room wasn't warm enough

Review 2:Warm welcome, friendly staff- we were travelling with a baby and the manager accommodate us on a private room to have a dinner. Very interesting place to have a romantic weekend, distinctive surround arts and nature- amazing

Review 3:I had a wonderful experience but if were to be super picky I'd say that the bathroom tap was too low therefore unable to fill the kettle. Everything else wonderful.

Review 4:The breakfast was delicious - local bacon and superbly cooked. The hotel was interesting and funky and the sculpture garden was amazing. The works of art and furniture are really interesting. And the staff were really helpful and welcoming. We were able to have our dogs there which was great. A fab place to stay.

Review 5:This is one of the most interesting and unique places I have stayed, the room was good and the breakfast was even better. I loved waking up and seeing the interesting art & sculptures. I will be staying here again when I am next in the area!

Review 6:we could bring our dog they found us somewhere to eat with our dog so helpful food excellent l really enjoyed our stay. staff lovely. lovely view from room.

Review 7:fantastic food, all very reasonable prices. Art Gallery and garden an added bonus! staff are extremely helpful. Open fires in dining room and lounge are lovely. All rooms have excellent storage and plug sockets (something lacking in other hotels)

Review 8:The hotel is in an excellent position. It is stylish and different from the vast majority of local hotels. The art on display is very interesting both inside the hotel and throughout the grounds. The dinner menu was varied, well presented and very enjoyable.

Review 9:There is nothing to dislike! Ok, the weather!!

Review 10:What a fabulous place to stay! Peaceful and amazing location, wonderful staff, excellent food and supper room!

Review 11:The TV didn't work and the member of staff on arrival didn't explain the breakfast arrangements to me

Review 12:The breakfast, the art was amazing especially the sculptures

Review 13:Nothing to dislike.

Review 14:A weekend surrounded by art and sculptures, we were in heaven. The house was calm and peaceful with its open fires and cosy nooks to relax and take in the fantastic view. The room was very comfortable and the view was stunning. We ate in the hotel restaurant on both nights of our stay and the food was outstanding. Breakfast was included in the price of the room and was also delicious. Although the weather wasn't on our side, despite the rain, we wondered through the grounds to view the artworks and they were certainly a topic of conversation for us. A unique experience. Very enjoyable much needed weekend away. Thank you to the friendly, efficient and helpful staff for making our time so pleasurable. ??

Review 15:Nothing was unpleasant but as we were there as my son had been taken into hospital we couldn't phone the hospital as mobiles didn't work and they couldn't get me so we had to go out to get a signal which we got when on the road

Review 16:The quirkiness of the hotel . We enjoyed the statues etc the staff were very pleasent and the food was excellent

Review 17:No hot water in the morning. We fed this back and asked to be contacted and no one bothered to. That is very sloppy. I have asthma and there was mould in our room which triggered it. We would have liked to come again because it is a very beautiful place and the people are very charming but I was not impressed no one contacted me despite me asking.

Review 18:Beautiful place. Wonderful food.

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:Very welcoming and fantastic value for money as everything is much better quality than we usually recieve from much more expensive hotels we have stayed at. Only wished we hadn't eaten before we arrived as would have loved to try the Tapas.

Review 21:The Broomhill Art hotel is a little bit 'tucked away' but once we found it we were delighted. It is located in beautiful grounds with many interesting sculptures to view. We had a generous sized room overlooking the garden which was lovely. The highlight of our stay was the amazing Tapas meal and desert that was served to us by a very informative and friendly staff member. Definitely a meal that we will remember for a long time to come - thank you!

Review 22:Extremely hard to find especially in dark, could be better sign posts and entrance on road lite up. Plus no network coverage which was dissapointing

Review 23:Excellent service, very clean. Extremely polite and we'll looked after by the young lady. Nothing was a problem.

Review 24:The sculpture garden and art collection was full of hidden treasures. The staff were so friendly and accommodating for families and the food was delicious.

Review 25:The rooms were more basic than I had anticipated but were clean, comfortable and of a fair size with seating area overlooking the gardens

Review 26:There are some wonderful sculptures in extensive wooded gardens, glorious to walk around at our leisure, amazing displays around every pathway! Gallery in house had some amazing pieces. Breakfast delicious especially the home made breads and jams - exceptional! Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 27:The beautiful grounds, the delicious food - the evening meals were delicious and the breakfasts were really tasty in a lovely relaxing environment. Great room with a lovely view and the staff and owners were really friendly. Hope to go again as it was a very relaxing break.

Review 28:Ensuite bathroom was tiny. The sink was over the toilet. The shower was about 20 inches square. Breakfast was ok, evening meals not so good.

Review 29:Bed was comfortable, gardens were impressive.

Review 30:The staff were very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. The ambience of the whole hotel was so different and interesting. Plus the sculptures in the garden were out of this world

Review 31:Car parking provided but it may be helpful to reserve some for guests as it can be difficult for them to access the far car park across front of hotel.

Review 32:Lovely setting. Nice house. Food very good.

Review 33:It's a unique and beautiful setting. But most of all we liked the cheerful and honest simplicity of the place. Very much in keeping with the wonder of the gardens and sculptures.

Review 34:This is really petty.. but the kettle wouldn't fit under the tap in the bathroom so it made it a bit awkward trying to fill it.

Review 35:We had a delicious evening meal when we arrived. The staff were very accommodating as we arrived quite late.

Review 36:The room was spacious and nicely decorated but being a family room it has a fold out bed which is not really suitable for an older child as it has a deep ridge down the centre. The shower door didn't close properly.

Review 37:Fantastic venue to stay and visit. Friendly staff and great breakfast. Would like to have stayed for dinner but we were seeing friends instead. Loved wandering around the sculpture garden but ran out of time to do it justice.

Review 38:The wi-fi was not very good with no access in the room and limited access outside.

Review 39:The hotel is also an art museum, with lots of exhibits in the grounds and the house - this was a bonus we did not expect to be as good as it was. The tapas menu was unusual but very good

Review 40:Limited or no choice of alternative to cooked breakfast. Low pressure of shower in bedroom

Review 41:Very comfortable bed, quality of food Enjoyed exhibits in garden

Review 42:Nothing bad to say really, however the phone signal is very bad but they do have free wifi.

Review 43:Fantastic hotel, good sized room, great view from our window, comfortable bed and fantastic grounds and gardens full of plants and sculptures!!

Review 44:My room was not en-suite but this was not a problem

Review 45:Very pleasant and polite staff, meals were superb and excellent value, impressive gardens, would definitely recommend it, the lady owner even took me to meet my customer because I could not get a taxi, thank you.

Review 46:We liked everything

Review 47:A good place to go for a nice quiet stay and walk around the grounds looking at all the artwork staff is very helpful and cheerful location was perfect for our needs

Review 48:The room was a little dark but not a real issue as everytjing else was great.

Review 49:We loved the position , the quirky art, the friendly helpful staff and delicious breakfast.

Review 50:Nothing bad to say

Review 51:Location, staff, food all really great - the art all around you is quirky and interesting - relaxed atmosphere and nothing too much trouble.

Review 52:Rooms were a little shabby. Poor paintwork. Shower wasn't great. No bedside lamps. Cooked breakfast could have included more variety. No sausage!

Review 53:Great evening meal!lovely comfy beds. Tranquil surroundings

Review 54:Couldn't get wi-fi, no mobile telephone reception. Our room was above kitchen and no view.

Review 55:Peaceful location, nice clean room with clean towels each day. Excellent breakfast with selection of fresh fruit, yoghurt and full cooked breakfast. Evening meals were delicious and very good value. friendly staff.

Review 56:Bathroom seperate to room. No gowns provided. No bin in bathroom. Sheet didnt fit bed. Food all fuss no substance. Less flower petals more flavour or actually what it promised to be on menu. Tom bean casserole just potato three ways ?!

Review 57:The decor and atmosphere. Some staff very helpful and friendly others young and confused one borderline surly and stroppy and ditzy.

Review 58:The owners and staff gave wonderful service. Always cheerful and truly fantastic to ensure the guests enjoy a superb stay. The sculptures and gallery cannot be equaled. A magical third visit.

Review 59:We have a problem with our special requests not being passed on to the hotel and they were not aware we wanted an evening meal-this has happened in all the hotels we have stayed in on this trip-Booking.com needs to address this

Review 60:Fabulous location in a beautiful garden with lots of sculptures dotted around the pathways. Excellent food and friendly staff

Review 61:The friendliness of the staff and the quirkiness of the hotel. Different from the norm. Food was amazing. I'd go again and have dinner there. Great gardens and gallery for the more arty folk!

Review 62:Really can't think of anything

Review 63:We've stayed here before, and always found the staff wonderful and welcoming, the food exceedingly good, and the gardens are just magical. The sculptures are intriguing and dynamic, and the whole experience is just calming and recharging.

Review 64:Creaky floor, art in hotel quite average, unclear how sculpture park works (you have free access as a guest, it turns out!), wifi quite weak

Review 65:Amazing view over the sculpture garden, great shower, comfy bed, delicious breakfast, quiet location

Review 66:Nothing of substance.

Review 67:Great restaurant with nice staff and good service. Super gardens, we spent hours relaxing in. Interesting fine art placed around the hotel . Good base for visiting N Devon attractions.

Review 68:So often hotels with potential are let down by their plumbing! Our en-suite was tiny, the shower door didn't shut properly resulting in a wet slippery floor, despite the pressure of the shower head not being much more than a trickle! And there wasn't even a little shelf, or a hook on the back of the door to hang up your towel. Although the food was good, the service didn't match it; we had to remind the waitress twice to bring the wine that we had ordered, and then we were billed at the wrong prices! Such a pity because the patrons are lovely, well-meaning people. We think they need to concentrate more on the standard of the accommodation and less on the Art! We would not recommend staying at this hotel to our friends, but it's probably a good place to eat if you're in that neck of the woods, as long as the waiting staff are on the ball!

Review 69:Set in a Sculpture Garden, the hotel is in a lovely location, and inside there is a continuation and abundance of different, stimulating Art....everywhere you look! The standard of the evening meals was excellent: not surprised that awards have been won.

Review 70:No telephone signal, at all!

Review 71:Nice, friendly staff. Hotel is situated in beautiful Countryside and has beautiful gardens with all sorts of curiosities. I didn't eat in the evening but the breakfast was fantastic.

Review 72:Gorgeous hotel and gardens - the sculpture trail was fantastic - totally wowed by it all . Staff and hosts were perfectly attentive and yet great at giving privacy. Lovely and quiet at night and in the mornings too . We will be back again :-) ! !

Review 73:The location in the woods, the birdsong in the mornings. Interesting art, lovely dining room. Simple clean rooms. Great breakfast and a special evening meal menu. We really love this hotel. Oh and the staff are friendly too. Happy days!

Review 74:Difficult to connect and receive internet reception but not a bad thing. We all existed without it a few years ago. Would easily forgo this to stay at this wonderful establishment.

Review 75:Excellent value for money. Clean, comfortable rooms. Wonderful gardens. Lovely food. Helpful staff.

Review 76:Love love love this hotel.....food is amazing....loved the whole experience of staying at this property...the Art work is incredible in the gardens and gallery

Review 77:None of us got signal.

Review 78:The staff were incredibly kind & understanding of our situation. They cooked us dinner after the kitchens had closed & made an amazing lamb meal.

Review 79:Nothing as such but I would have like to be warned at time of booking that the phone signal is non exicitant except for a little upstairs.

Review 80:The staff were brilliant, great location and lovely meal followed be fantastic breakfast

Review 81:Almost no mobile coverage makes communications very difficult.

Review 82:The breakfast was very nice and staff very helpful. The extensive sculptures in the grounds are well worth taking the time to see.

Review 83:the room we had was a bit dark - long and narrow with windows only at the one end.

Review 84:The location within the park is charming. The proprietors are keen to satisfay their clients; the staff is well-trained.

Review 85:Nothing to complain about apart from a small slug which found its way into the bathroom. We agreed to co-habitat.

Review 86:Everything. It was comfortable, friendly, good food and an incredible setting.

Review 87:Suggest you arrive in daylight as it's an unusual entrance/driveway and signs on driveway are difficult to read.

Review 88:Lovely large room with sitting areas overlooking garden. The freedom to roam around the delightful garden and sculptures. The fresh fruit, local yoghurt and homemade Seville marmalade (best marmalade ever!).

Review 89:One disappointing course in an otherwise excellent menu. Acknowledged and remedied by the staff!

Review 90:A warm and welcoming hotel. With a lot of exciting art.

Review 91:Waited on arrival. Despite sending a email to say what time we would arrive. Matress was poor and sub - standard. Not acceptable. Would not go back. Not value for money. Very noisey.

Review 92:Free Wi - Fi and the location was O.K

Review 93:The shower was poor as was the bed but otherwise everything else was fine

Review 94:Wasn't aware that Monday nights was tapas, although it was very nice We enjoyed the gardens alot, and the location was very nice.

Review 95:It's hard to be critical of such a lovely place, but a few hooks in the bathroom would have helped.

Review 96:It's an interesting place, surrounded by works of art. Reception very friendly, and having a restaurant made going out for dinner very easy. The food was excellent, as was the service for both dinner and breakfast.. Wifi worked well in the room.

Review 97:It's a very minor gripe, but the hospitality tray in the room only had Earl Grey teabags! Had to pop out to buy some 'normal' tea.

Review 98:Beautiful room overlooking the gardens. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Bed so cosy that I didn't want to get up. Excellent breakfast - especially loved the colourful fruit salad. Loved all the artwork. I got a reduced rate through booking.com, and feel as though I got a real bargain.

Review 99:No mobile signal. But to some that might be a positive.

Review 100:Visually interesting and a refreshing change to the business aimed hotels. Great food. Great and friendly staff.

Review 101:Our bedroom #8 was big but noisy. Can hear whats going on downstairs clearly and sometimes the kitchen. Also lovely presented breakfast but it was very cold, was too hungry to turn it back,

Review 102:Homely environment with cool artwork all around. Very close to the sea

Review 103:The owners and staff were very helpful, friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. We travelled with our very laid back old dog and the staff set up dining tables for us, out of the dining room to accommodate the dog. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel in all aspects.

Review 104:Parking could be an issue as spaces limited and hotel we're hosting events during our stay.

Review 105:Amazing room, delicious meal/breakfast in restaurant, very attentive owners and staff. Wonderful sculpture park in the grounds and art gallery within the hotel - bonus.

Review 106:Amazing sculpture garden setting, beautifully decorated room, stylish and clean. The breakfast was delicious, afternoon tea and cakes by the open fire was wonderful.

Review 107:Nothing.

Review 108:Went to see the art and was not disappointed as it's well worth a visit. Would think the garden was exceptional in the Spring/Summer.Log fires, good Wi-Fi, loads of books and lovely breakfast made it a super place to stay.

Review 109:Too much light coming through window from outside lighting but this could be resolved with longer curtains

Review 110:Hotel is in a good location with ample parking. The staff I met were very friendly and accommodating. Very good parking. Nice quiet room

Review 111:The food was okay didn't quite live up to our expectations. Well presented but a bit of a 'confusion of flavours' on the particular dishes we chose... No sausages at breakfast on day 1 and unpleasant sausages on day 2 was a bit of a shock - we were expecting some good hearty local fare!

Review 112:We absolutely loved the sculpture gardens and overall arty feel of the place - even my partner who's not at all arty. Far preferable to large, bland, chain hotels in our opinion. The building is light and airy and the restaurant is less formal than it looks in the photos which we were pleased about. Felt very comfortable and would definitely recommend to people looking for a place to stay that's slightly different.

Review 113:Not in any way the fault of Broomhill, but I got lost trying to navigate through Barnstaple town to get there.

Review 114:Attractive building, superb surroundings, comfortable room, 5-star breakfast, helpful and attentive personnel, all at amazingly low cost.

Review 115:Off-season the chance was being taken to upgrade the rooms, so there was quite a strong smell of fresh paint

Review 116:Wonderful grounds, full of glorious art. Very good dinner and breakfast

Review 117:We have stayed twice before and had a excellent stay so found this time the food was not upto its usual standard with my husbands main meal cold in the middle as if it had been microwaved although I realise the flower are "in" not with a full English breakfast. As we were the only two that stayed overnight would have throught our breakfast would have been hot and not luck worm

Review 118:The address of Bromhill Art Hotel should be Muddiford Road, Muddiford - not Barnstaple. Then we would have been able to find it on the sat.nav.

Review 119:Excellent food. Very comfortable room. Amazing bonus of large gardens full of beautiful sculptures. Beautiful artwork inside as well.

Review 120:The pillows! Sad I know, so used to soft fluffy pillows at home that inch thick flat pillows didn't quite cut it for me. Staff gave me extra of the same which was kind of them. I know some people have allergies to feather but hotels I usually stay in offer the choice, just a thought.

Review 121:The hotel and grounds, are a credit to the owners. Some beautiful art inside and out. Our room was spacious. The food was excellent, we ate from both menus and breakfast all equally delicious. The evening waiting staff were perfectly attentive. We look forward to a return in the summer.

Review 122:loved the location , very mystical and fairy land. fab Chrissy decorations . Loved the Sculpture garden and Art Gallery . Loved the Tapas food menu . if you like off beat places this is the one . Very quiet- room was good

Review 123:This hotel is excellent in hospitality, food sevice and a cultural experience,we cannot say enough about the host and staff, and will undoutbably return, if only we lived nearer.

Review 124:Everything! Arrived on a rainy evening when the restaurant was closed. But proprietors still put together a simple but superb meal for us. We had another request because it was necessary to leave early the next morning and they served us breakfast 40 minutes earlier than the usual set time. Had not booked an ensuite room but was given one anyway because it was available. There was no extra charge. Why is the rating only 8,8? it should be 11.

Review 125:non existent mobile signal, but the hotel allowed us to use their land line. The food was very good, but a bit expensive for our tastes.

Review 126:Comfortable public rooms, log fires, nice bedroom, very good food. Tremendous amount of very interesting artwork, inside the hotel, and in the garden. Lovely staff.

Review 127:Rain, but that means we will return to look at the gardens one day

Review 128:One night stay, we arrived in the dark and pouring rain. A friendly hotel not over pretentious . Food was excellent as was our room. Will go back one day to explore you wonderful gardens we could glimpse through the rain.

Review 129:Nothing. .Apart from the lack of mobile phone coverage , sometimes not a bad thing.

Review 130:Everything the location the art & The food oh the food , We will be back.
