Reviews for Pedn-Olva Hotel

Review 1:First room shown was on the small size, with a tiny shower room. Odd that the sink was separately in the bedroom itself.

Review 2:Absolutely fantastic views from the bedroom . Sitting in bed looking at the sea was an indulgence.

Review 3:£8 for parking which was not mentioned on the site/write up.

Review 4:Bedroom, literally, with breaking waves about 10 feet under the window as you had a panoramic view across the water to the harbour. Fabulous. Lovely breakfast overlooking the beach, beautifully presented and cooked. Although bedroom was small it was very chic with crisp white linen. Lacks leisure facilities but will definitely stay again, provided the price is right. I paid £89 for a twin with breakfast but I've seen ridiculous prices for the same room at other times.

Review 5:Bathroom needed complete update. Fixtures and fittings dated and rusty, especially the shower curtain rail. Splash back and bath in need of repair and grouting mouldy.

Review 6:Closeness to St Ives and beautiful views

Review 7:nothing really. had a party till late on the Saturday, but not worst issue so long as you don't like to be in bed for 10pm.

Review 8:great view of the bay from deluxe rooms. sounds of the waves can be heard as drift off to sleep.

Review 9:Didn't stay long enough to see any bad side to the hotel.

Review 10:Good sized room with large bed and amazing view over Porthminster Beach and St Ives. Staff at Reception were also very helpful especially since my husband had a bad back and could barely move!

Review 11:There is nothing to not like!!

Review 12:Awesome location. The hotel is right on the cliff. In the morning when you wake up, you can see the sea, well past your room!! My room also had a great view from the shower cubicle. The best location for me so far. And I have to many hotels in many countries..

Review 13:Very small room only accessible by exiting the hotel and walking down to the swimming pool - not so good in winter squalls. Bathroom so narrow it was hard to turn around in.

Review 14:Great location, very friendly staff

Review 15:We booked this as a last minute deal at a very good price. All of the staff were lovely and so friendly, they couldn't have been more helpful- those on the desk and also in the bar and restaurant. The rooms looking at the sea were simply stunning, really comfy and although small there was plenty of room for what we needed. The breakfast, lunch and dinner we had here were all amazing, we would definitely recommend eating here.

Review 16:I thought the breakfast could be better, the options were ok (eggs, salmon, haddock, full breakfast) but the cooking was poor and could be much improved, and I didn't see anything hot for vegetarians.

Review 17:The view from my room over to St Ives harbour and the sea was incredible. It's a very short and lovely walk down into the town, or on the other side down to the lovely Porthminster beach. On the whole the staff were very helpful.

Review 18:We could often hear unwanted noise from other guests traveling to and from their room. The hotel bar was quite expensive.

Review 19:The views were fantastic and the staff were extremely helpful and polite.

Review 20:Family room was very small so we ended up being put in 2 small double rooms which wasn't great for us as we preferred to be in one large room

Review 21:Great location and fantastic views of the beach

Review 22:Absolutely loved it here. Staff were welcoming accommodating and very friendly. Rooms were small but cosy, with excellent views, although the single rooms view room 10 wasn't as good as rooms 3 & 17. Would definitely recommend here & would visit again ?

Review 23:It was expensive and I expected more for the money. No complaints, just no wow.

Review 24:Location is perfect, right on the shore overlooking the town and harbour one way and one of the beaches the other. Breakfast was really good.

Review 25:cleanliness in public areas very poor. sticky seats on all terraces. dirt around all tables and rubbish i.e. food spills bits of paper etc. thick dirt around base of stools on terraces. not many people seated but all empty tables full of rubbish and glasses. not a good standard at all. This really lets you down !!!!

Review 26:friendly staff, excellent location. excellent breakfast.

Review 27:Would have preferred the dinner menu to be more varied over the week.

Review 28:Excellent location, staff very helpful, food in both bar and restaurant good. Amazing panoramic views from the bar and restaurant

Review 29:Original room way too small, offered larger at extra cost but having already paid a lot, I did refuse which they honoured at original price.

Review 30:Location, parking, even though it was extra! Great staff, very helpful.

Review 31:My shower was blocked so I couldn't use it. I left behind chocolate and biscuits in my room. When I went back a few hours later they couldn't be found - however staff really did try to look. Shame as had to run into town to re-purchase present again.

Review 32:I loved fact we were so close to sea - views fantastic. Breakfast great and staff really helpful.

Review 33:Apart from one lady the other members of staff were quite rude and seemingly unable to crack a smile. The rooms are tiny! The bed is also tiny and ridiculously soft. It also felt like it was tilting to one side. The bathroom is small but ok. However the doors are like wardrobe doors and left a crack down the middle when closed - not ideal. The rooms are hot, however we were provided with a fan when we asked (even if it was tiny). Breakfast was fine but service was very slow. Would I stay here again? No way.

Review 34:The lady on reception was polite and helpful. The view from the room is amazing. Great location.

Review 35:Cleaning the rooms, and the dishes and cups breakfast were caked with food. If you are alone you do not give the table to eat, prefer to give it to the people not the hotel.

Review 36:sea view and beach access. restaurant and food. room.

Review 37:The room was a little small.

Review 38:We had a beautiful view of the beach. The location was perfect being right by the train station, as we had quite a bit of luggage. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

Review 39:Shower extremely small, parts falling off Bed small not very private when terrace is full of people

Review 40:Nice decor in the room even though it was v small.

Review 41:The bathroom was the size of two portaloos stuck together. A large person would not be able to use either toilet or shower at all! Nice room but could do with updating. Dinner excellent, breakfast poor. For £180 per night I expect room to be cleaned daily and have fresh towels automatically, not to have to leave a sign on the door. Having said all this, we still had a lovely stay.

Review 42:The staff were excellent, always happy to help and with very friendly attitude.

Review 43:Very small room - no space to move or hanging space - shabby in areas Public having priority over guests in public areas rabbit warren feel to premises.

Review 44:Location - sheltered sun terrace

Review 45:I may have missed the deadline for responding. Every time I clicked on the response rating it did not work. However I would give the hotel excellent in everything. It was wonderful and staff were very helpful.

Review 46:booked a CLASSIC double room. classic in the dictionary states: of the first class, acknowledged excellence. The room was down 7 flights of stairs in the basement, filthy stained cheap and nasty carpets, very small room, smallest bathroom and shower possible. avoid at all costs, rip off at £180 night !

Review 47:Nothing. Everything was great!

Review 48:Superb views over Porthminster Beach and across the bay, great food - friendly staff knew what they were doing. The hotel is excellently placed for St Ives train station at the end of the delightful scenic branch line from St Erth where there is rail access to the rest of Cornwall and beyond.

Review 49:Nothing to complain about.

Review 50:Sea view room serenaded by sounds of the sea, waves lapping on the rocks below our bedroom window. Lovely terraces with spectacular views.

Review 51:The breakfast staff were rude and unprofessional.

Review 52:Gorgeous views from both picture windows in the room. Feel asleep to the sound of the sea. Steps from the train.

Review 53:Having booked a room with sea view, little did I realise that the view included the swimming pool area right in ftont of our window with some sun bathing seniors! We couldn't even keep the curtains open

Review 54:Excellent location, friendly service

Review 55:The service was very poor for this price/std of hotel, tables were left unclean and crockery was not removed quickly between each course. The bed was very soft and poor standard. They also found it really hard to bring the correct food that was ordered to the table.

Review 56:The room was very nice and the views were exceptional

Review 57:Not a problem for me but a challenging layout for the elderly or visitors with mobility problems.

Review 58:The views & positioning of this hotel are second to none. Brilliant use of terracing & glass make full use of the location. Sun decks, pool and great views from the bar, restaurant & rooms. Food in the restaurant was lovely & staff very attentive & pleasant

Review 59:Problem with the shower door. This was rectified before we left.

Review 60:Our balcony overlooking Porthminster beach. The breakfasts and evening meals were excellent. We could ask for nothing more. Staff were very attentive, courteous and helpful.

Review 61:On the expensive side and ensuite a bit like a cupboard so very lacking in privacy.

Review 62:The best view of St Ives in the bedroom and bar and restaurant. It wasn't far to walk into the centre at night and handy for the cliff paths and the station which you could use for a trip to Lelant, Penzance and other nice places

Review 63:We did not have a problem while staying here.

Review 64:The staff was wonderful! They were friendly and took great care of our every request. They even brought our luggage to and from the train car park for us. Rooms were small but comfortable and fabulous sea views. Food was excellent.

Review 65:Room was very small, the breakfast was a bit mediocre and why charge more for a cappucino when breakfast is included?

Review 66:lovely staff, good location, good bar snacks

Review 67:Unfortunately room was very small, felt like shower and toilet were in a cupboard.

Review 68:Views from our room were amazing. Food and service was excellent. Very friendly and pleasant staff.

Review 69:We found the staff not very interactive with us and didn't even get a "thank you" for staying as we booked out.

Review 70:We loved the view from the room although the room and bathroom was very small. The breakfast was lovely and plenty to choose from but got turned away for dinner on the last night at 9:30 because the kitchen was closing

Review 71:Have been here several times plus with friends and family but Room (33) for 2 nights for 2 @ £360 was bad. Little space, sink area tiny and shower/toilet bit of a joke yet Superior???? previous classis better and more spacious. Felt let down. May well consider elsewhere next visit.

Review 72:Staff, food and cleanliness

Review 73:friendly staff beautiful location great food relaxing place to sit and stare out to sea what more can i say if your thinking of going then go you will not be disappointed

Review 74:There were a few cracks on walls and a bit off shoddy paint work but looked like a work in progress.

Review 75:The views are amazing, Staff very helpful, good food and variety of drinks available.

Review 76:The staff changed my booked room to one just above the stair by the restaurant, so I could hear all the ruckus in the restaurant. The toilet had 'human stains' and there were stray hairs on my bed. The workmen had left tools in the bathroom. On top of this I had left my bag with the hotel while I went out on my last day. The bag was covered in debris when I picked it up and now needs to be cleaned. Had I paid £50 for room I could have accepted these shortcomings but at £180 a night this was a waste of money.

Review 77:Good location.

Review 78:Parking is a problem. Park in the station car park and carry bags down steps. Book parking with the hotel as they have reserved spaces.

Review 79:The position on top of the cliffs facing the harbour.

Review 80:Location overlooking St Ives bay is stunning. Staff friendly and welcoming. Loved being lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean, and enjoying pre breakfast coffee on the balcony

Review 81:It was all good, even the weather behaved!

Review 82:The View, the room was clean, comfortable and well presented. The service was friendly and efficient. Loved being able to hear the waves on the beach below the room, what a lovely sound to drop off to sleep to!

Review 83:Bathroom was more like a cupboard which was a little disappointing. Hardly any storage room for cases etc. Room could have done with some work, some rust on fittings, warping of surfaces - a bit tatty generally.

Review 84:View from room was amazing. Staff were polite and helpful.

Review 85:Nothing it was all good

Review 86:Whats not to like wherever you are situated in the hotel room, restaurant bar beautiful views across the beach nearby harbour and ocean.A haven set in a beautiful place

Review 87:Food on second evening less good (parsnip bhajis and steak burger)

Review 88:Hotel staff in the restaurant were really excellent. View amazing. Food great on my first evening (scallops and monkfish)

Review 89:Very clean, modern with good views across the bay. Comfortable rooms with good facilities. Helpful staff on arrival and good food in the restaurant too! Good variety at breakfast and parking close by.

Review 90:Nothing

Review 91:Location is terrific, Staff are most helpful, decor creates pleasant ambience, food is great. I left feeling chilled ebven though an overnight business stay. I will return for leisure stay.

Review 92:Sorry can't fault it!! Really should have a FOUR STAR rating!! Rather than three, Apparently it's due to the fact that they don't have a lift! That's it! The rest is awesome!

Review 93:Everything!! I just totally adore this little piece of Heaven!! Food is delicious!! Views are out of this world from the Bar and Restaurant! We stayed in Room 3 and it blew our minds for the views even from the bathroom! :-)

Review 94:Yes we forgot to bring our swimmers to us your pool. The weather took aturn for the worse the day we left but didn't dampen our spiritshaving had a lovely couple of days in St Ives.

Review 95:The location, the ease of parking, the view from our room, the bar andthe dinning room were all beautiful, we love St Ives and have visitedmany times both day trips and staying in guest houses and hotels andthis is by far the best yet and not necessary the cheepest. I'm amgoing to book a room from you for my parents 55th wedding anniversary inOctober just as soon as I can find when their free.

Review 96:Only one minor issue really. My room was adjacent to what I believe was either a store room or some kind of staff room? On my final night at Pedn Olva, someone kept slamming the door to that room. It must have woken me up 6 or 7 times in the night. I was able to go straight back to sleep each time, so for me it was no huge issue, but might be a problem for some people. Maybe remind staff not to slam doors when people are asleep.

Review 97:I loved this hotel. It'sconvenientlying close to the bus and train stations, and is right by the sea! My room was lovely and comfortable, and had a wonderful sea view. I will definitely stay here on any future trips to St Ives.

Review 98:One little quibble, the shower/loo is a tight squeeze - but they work and are clean and modern.

Review 99:Fantastic location right on the water - nice balcony right above the rocks - delightful staff, every one of them just great - nice room, a bit small, but very comfortable bed - lovely food (the seafood is best) - very convenient for exploring St Ives. And the staff are the best I've encountered in a British hotel - efficient, courteous, friendly (but not overly) - all in all excellent.

Review 100:We had difficulty with the on line directions as the last couple of lines didn't make sense. We had lent our Sat Nav to a family member which put us at a disadvantage.

Review 101:We loved the situation of the Pedn Olva, overlooking the beach and St. Ives town. We enjoyed 2 delicious breakfasts and the staff members were friendly and helpful, especially when we were trying to locate the hotel and were lost.

Review 102:Excellent location. The sight and sound of the Atlantic breaking on the rocks right below the hotel is mesmerising. Staff very friendly & helpful.

Review 103:Nothing really, but a replacement bulb for my room never appeared!

Review 104:The location, the breakfast, friendly staff, sea view and short walk to the train station and bus terminus.

Review 105:Location is absolutely perfect and the view is incredible. Rooms were clean and the staff were great. Can't pick a fault in this wonderful hotel, would definitely stay again.

Review 106:The room was very small, so don't plan on more than an overnight bag. Fine for a couple nights but you' won't be doing much more than sleeping in the room. Also the restaurants fireplace wasn't working and sounds like there were no plans to get in operating. Would have been nice on the snowy day we had.

Review 107:The sea view rooms are practically in the ocean. Room 32 had a nice balcony that hung over the rocks on the beach. Nice bar (St Austel pub) and credible restaurant made meals enjoyable.

Review 108:Had to ask to get fire lit each night staff not clearing tables general lethargy with staff except at breakfast which was good

Review 109:Breakfast and the position by the sea

Review 110:All good!

Review 111:The Hotel was clean and comfortable and all the staff very friendly, chatty and attentive. Good facilities in the room and a great sea view. The fabulous breakfast was served in a well kept restaurant accompanied by a panoramic view of the beach.

Review 112:Room was clean and fresh and there was fresh refreshments daily. The staff were obliging (even with difficult clients). Food was amazing and the views were extraordinary

Review 113:There wasnt anything

Review 114:Reception staff were very helpfull and we had a lovely breakfast everybody was very friendly parking is excellent as well very close to hotel just ask hotel to book you a place for the duration of your stay there is a charge but worth while as St Ives can be a nightmare to park .We loved it so much we have booked for my husbands birthday in February .

Review 115:It's expensive to stay at this hotel because of it's location. You could hear the staff talking and gossiping about some of their guests. Not at all professional and a shame because otherwise they were generally nice, friendly and helpful.

Review 116:The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel was clean and tidy. The view was amazing from the bedroom with a turquoise sea crashing onto the rocks just below the bedroom window. The breakfast was cooked to perfection

Review 117:Pillows are a odd size and had a bad neck in the morning from them. Couldn't find a hair dryer? Maybe a earlier check in would have been nice too.

Review 118:Loved the location and breakfast! Staff noticed everyone too which is nice

Review 119:Sun was shining through at breakfast but with heating on full blast it was extremely warm and became a little uncomfortable. Hanging space in the room was awkward, take out the baggage rack and the wasted bedside table, put a small shelf there if you need something. Signs of damp need addressing, it is not recent.

Review 120:Expectations were high knowing the location but even they were surpassed! Room was compact but very comfortable. All in All it was Fantastic.

Review 121:No bad points observed

Review 122:Pleasant and helpful staff who made us feel like valued customers. Our room was spacious and we had a large window with a view of Godrevy lighthouse and across the sea to Hayle. The view from the bar area is over the harbour. There was a plentiful supply of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and biscuits. A modern bathroom with a bath and a power shower. The most comfortable bed! Tv. Free wi-fi. The hotel is situated within walking distance of the shops, the bus station and the train station.

Review 123:The rooms are very small and overpriced for what they are. You cannot get a drink from the bar late at night even if you are a resident, because they lock up the bar.

Review 124:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The chef delivers excellent food in the restaurant The hotel is very clean.

Review 125:Not enough staff. Owners take note. Food good but not great. Filthyoutsides of windows from bar overlooking view. (Must be hard beingexposed but could do better)

Review 126:Staff friendly clean rooms great location great views of harbour

Review 127:strong smell of body odor at reception when we checked in,,,

Review 128:fantastic nearly on beach room with sea and beach outside window a smallish but adequate room with great large bathroom great chambermaid friendly and accommodating...as was reception and bar staff

Review 129:Surprising, no seafood platter on the menu, maybe fish catches not inbest seasonal time? Pedn Olva is expected to be the best in St Ives, butcooking was not up to Kinsale standard -- the best in Ireland, also onthe seafront on the south coast.

Review 130:The sound of the sea at night.

Review 131:Mattress broken. impossible to lie on bed without sliding off. Bathroom no more than a cubicle. Very small room.

Review 132:Location Attitude of staff Breakfast

Review 133:The bathroom was tiny! The swing door to the bathroom/toilet had a gap down the middle so very little privacy if you were sat on the toilet! The sliding door to the shower only opened part way....so if you are a large person you wouldn t be able to fit through the gap and step into the shower. The coffee sachets in the room were out of date and stale. Bought my own coffee .

Review 134:Excellent location and beautiful views of St Ives. Easy to walk into the town and handy parking at the train station.Friendly staff and the room was cleaned to a good standard.

Review 135:beautiful hotel overlooking st ives. the hotel room and bathroom spotless, cannot find anything to complain about, will be staying again in the near future

Review 136:We had an amazing stay at this hotel, when we walked into our room the sea view was breath taking. The hotel was very beautiful and the staff were extremely friendly and hospitable nothing was too much. The breakfast was excellent quality and the vegetarian option was great I loved viewing the sea whilst eating. I would definitely visit again and recommend this hotel. Thank You.

Review 137:sat nav using your postcode takes you to a dead end!!! Second attempt and I almost missed the tiny sign that led me to the car park above the hotel.

Review 138:room was very clean with great view over the harbour, All the staff I spoke to were very welcoming especially the waitress who served me breakfast in the morning, which was excellent (recommend the haddock and poached eggs). .
