Reviews for Midland Hotel

Review 1:Our room smelled as if someone had smoked in it. Also, we would like to stay more often but the prices are out of our reach other than for anniversaries etc.

Review 2:Everything above - the history, art deco etc etc.

Review 3:Staff and customer service excellent. Comfortable quirky room design. Small problem with room was put right very quickly. Overall a great place to stay

Review 4:Style over function in the bedrooms, specially the toilet arrangement. Attention to detail needs to be improved.

Review 5:Iconic building, fantastic views, lovely meal and breakfast

Review 6:no bad experience i thought the food was good but not great and was quite expensive, drink was quite expensive a large single malt whisky £10 house wine almost £20 a bottle, my total hotel bill was £ 700 plus i know we had a guest for 2 meals for that price you should be able to do a good all inclusive deal for my wife and I. the hotel also lacks a pool and small gym which would be very useful., my room over looked the car park.

Review 7:staff/service were very good, atmosphere was cordial,

Review 8:A super marriage between an old style 1920s building and modern facilities. Excellent standard food, served in very pleasing surroundings. Good parking and close location to centre of Morecambe.

Review 9:Surrounding area could do with a makeover.

Review 10:Beautiful art deco building and very modern rooms. The staff were friendly and the free breakfast was very tasty topped off with a view of Morecambe Bay.

Review 11:Nothing. Although Morecombe is not a perfect location

Review 12:Booked for my son and his new wife for their 'minimoon' so wanted something special. The Midland fitted that bill. Staff very helpful for the booking and looked after the newly weds

Review 13:The television in the room did not work, and despite reporting it on day 1, it was never fixed. The noise from the room above and being woken at 2am by parties in adjoining rooms

Review 14:The comfortable beds

Review 15:The room facilities took a bit of getting used to but everything was clean and tidy., Apologies were given for the lift being out of order.

Review 16:The food and restaurant service.

Review 17:A brochure/depliant pointing out all of the Eric Gill works and the most important Art Deco features would be useful. We only had a short stay at the hotel and may have missed something. The entrance to the car park needs to be more obvious---in driving rain we missed it , twice.

Review 18:Friendly, helpful, and knowledgable staff. Nice eating areas. No intrusive music

Review 19:Visited a year ago and the only thing that let it down were some of the staff being a bit unprofessional but visited recently and the staff are all now excellent! What a great, unique, hotel!

Review 20:4 star hotel ?l - I expected more than a bistro pub menu. Whilst I understand that our visit was "out of season" the hotel group should put in the effort to keep guests coming in all year round. Sea facing window was plagued by condensation.

Review 21:Iconic hotel, great location for exploring the Lake District. Friendly staff

Review 22:Overpriced and overhyped Room disappointed for a premium of £190 per nigh, stark and a bit tired in some areas. Rotunda bar more like a cafe. Underwhelmed by the whole place

Review 23:Stunning view from the sun terrace restaurant Pet friendly Spiral staircase

Review 24:Too noisy. The hotel organises events and the music is too loud and is heard in the first floor rooms until late at night. It was not a great experience.

Review 25:Nice location. Good breakfast. Very good restaurant.

Review 26:Despite having three mirrors, the Room lighting not the best for makeup. We stayed for a particular event in Morecambe, but the town has little else to offer except a cinema.

Review 27:Lovely restored Art Deco hotel. Quirky room design, some of which probably needed instructions! But great fun. Lovely breakfast with fantastic views out to sea.

Review 28:No pool no gym and couldn't get an appointment at the spa. Evening meal menu seemed odd. I'm not difficult to please and ear virtually anything but nothing on the menu excited my taste buds also we were not told on booking that gut an extra sum of hour try pounds we could have had a bigger room with a view

Review 29:The view from the breakfast room and the location. Excellent

Review 30:Although food and drink very good, in my opinion, extremely expensive. I paid over £27 for a steak and had to pay an extra £6 for a very small amount of vegetables ! A very small portion of chocolate mousse for dessert cost a whopping £7. Two glasses of wine cost £14. Roast potatoes were on the menu but when I asked if I could substitute these for chips, I was told 'no' as 'the chef didn't have the suitable potatoes for roasting'. I accepted this from the waitress, although the explanation left me somewhat puzzled.

Review 31:Beautiful hotel, staff very pleasant and room very clean and comfortable.

Review 32:This is a stunning Art Deco gem of a building. Our room was comfortable if rather more modern than expected. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

Review 33:Not a bad experience but having the lift out of order was a slight inconvenience. However the energy we used by walking up and downstairs to our room helped us burn off the calories from the delicious food we ate in the hotel restaurant.

Review 34:A brilliant stay in a wonderful hotel. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and nothing is too much trouble. They made our anniversary stay a real pleasure and even left us a congratulatory card in our room. We shall definitely be back and will lengthen our visit next time.

Review 35:Large room with wasted space, bathroom set up strange toilet next to bed ,hidden in cupboard "" not very private .room 106

Review 36:Location,seaview,comfortable bed and very quiet ,excellent breakfast with good produce, lovely afternoon tea

Review 37:No AC (way too hot even in October with the window open and a fan on!), being woken up by a cleaner letting themselves into the room at 8am on a Saturday morning, being woken up the next morning early by continual banging and clattering from the cleaners and doors continually slamming every few minutes, uncomfortable bed and pillows.

Review 38:Great shower in the room, spacious parking, bayside location, great restaurant and bar.

Review 39:The fact that all other customers were dressed so casually - does no-one bother to get out of jeans and shorts these days and dress smartly for dinner? Obviously not.

Review 40:Art Deco features-location on the bay. Evening meal excellent.

Review 41:Only minor complaint was a lack of comfortable seating in the bedroom. The chairs looked stylish but were very uncomfortable

Review 42:Efficient friendly staff. Good food with a choice of both relaxed and formal eating options. Tastefully restored and we'll appointed rooms

Review 43:Everything was great.

Review 44:This hotel offers everything! It has quirky rooms and lovely views over the bay when eating the wonderful breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff. Brilliant car park and great facilities. Brian Jenkins is our favorite member of staff. Always chatty and obliging.

Review 45:Its a shame that it was corner room which had a strange bathroom considering how long ago the booking was made and for such a special occasion a balcony would have been nice

Review 46:The staff couldn't be more helpful

Review 47:The plumbing and sound proofing - lack of it - could hear toilets flushing all night! Room quite expensive but perhaps it's the experience that counts

Review 48:Restaurant food exeptional. We had an upgrade with balcony and sea view which was a bonus. Staff - bar one curt female- were excellent.

Review 49:The bedroom chairs were very low and quite uncomfortable to sit in after a while.a perfect weekend

Review 50:The situation,the food,the service,the general ambience

Review 51:Our food order was lost/mixed up on one occasion at breakfast and we had to ask about it, however, we were served eventually and the staff were really sorry and caring about the incident. Sometimes wished for larger bedside storage but obviously its minimalist style.

Review 52:The Midland - iconic art deco style (we went to Eltham Palace some years ago and became interested in everything art deco.

Review 53:Parking on arrival was difficult, eased only by the extreme helpfulness of Nigel the porter.

Review 54:Everything! The whole experience was first-class: really friendly and helpful staff, good food, fabulous décor throughout, fantastic location. The sun even shone for us!

Review 55:This is a special hotel, brought back from the edge of dereliction and restored to its art deco splendour, with great views over Morecambe Bay and excellent fresh, local food in the panoramic restaurant.

Review 56:Communal areas could be cleaner. Dining room too brightly lit at dinner and chaotic at breakfast. Location is amazing but Morecambe is very depressing outside of the hotel.

Review 57:Cleverest design of a hotel room I've ever seen. Amazing furniture. Cracking afternoon tea.

Review 58:Wonderful views of the morecambe bay. Superb food. Having had difficulties with my original booking (of my own making)the friendly and helpful desk staff were brilliant in helping sort it out the problems.

Review 59:The cooked breakfasts were poor and the tea and coffee was warm rather than hot. Limited wardrobe space and a hidden loo made no sense in a room with lots of unused space.

Review 60:The location was superb with wonderful views over the bay. The hotel makes the most of its Art Deco features. The bed was very comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.

Review 61:Nothing - loved it all

Review 62:Art Deco style throughout. Lovely design Friendly staff Room service menu was a little limited but very good quality Breakfast very good Fantastic views

Review 63:No tables available until 9pm in the main dining room even tho we tried to book just after lunch.

Review 64:Design features in the room were really interesting, hidden cupboards & the toilet !

Review 65:Evening meals took a long time with long delays before ordering each course.

Review 66:Staff very friendly and helpful. Beautiful building and sea view. Beautifully cooked food.

Review 67:What a beautiful art deco hotel which has been superbly refurbished. It is like staying in a living piece of art work. Room overlooking the sea was lovely, restaurant and bars superb. Loved it.

Review 68:Morecambe itself isn't too lovely but the walk up and around Heysham Village truly lovely. Bar didn't stock low/no alcohol beer which should be an essential these days.

Review 69:Excellent rooms, stunning building perfectly refurbished. Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely meal in the restaurant. Funky bar.

Review 70:Room was hot as there is no air conditioning. However a fan was provided but too noisy to have on during the night. The room was noisy.

Review 71:Beautiful views of the bay. The decor is fantastic and the rooms were interesting.

Review 72:It is an art deco hotel, reason for going, we understand things need to modernise and it was left in disrepair for a long time. We think a bit more artdeco or more pointing out the art deco features instead of missing them or seeing them by chance. One small thing the serving lady told us the strainer was for loose tea! as if we didn't know, did make us feel she felt we shouldn't be there :(

Review 73:The view from the sea view room window lovely.

Review 74:the chairs in our room were scruffy & uncomfortable. the butternut squash soup was lacking in flavour & the meal was disappointing.

Review 75:the hotel architecture.

Review 76:There was nothing we did not like.

Review 77:We had a sea view room with lovely views. The room was spacious and well equipped. The decor was good and the balcony a nice feature. We came to celebrate my birthday and it was perfect. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent. We had always wanted to stay at The Midland and we were not disappointed.

Review 78:That my weekend went by so fast. I stayed at the Midland to attend a wedding in town. I wish I had more time to just relax and enjoy the hotel

Review 79:I loved the staff! The bed was so comfortable. The location on the Morecambe Bay was lovely. The dining area overlooked the bay. Lovely settings. The food. 5 stars!

Review 80:Nothing!

Review 81:The position of the hotel, the site of the hotel within the town and also re the sea. The style of the hotel building both exterior and interior. The style of the decor, furniture and fittings!

Review 82:Bed could have been a bit wider. Felt that bedroom needed a bit of air conditioning during the night as rather hot, but did not open window as would get gale from sea (in during night and close to hotel).

Review 83:Polite, cheerful and helpful staff. First class room, hotel and facilities. Breakfast is particularly impressive, an absolute treat.

Review 84:Hotel needs a refresh , dirty chipped paint , flooring and skirting boards really old and dirty especially in the restaurant and toilets. Need to sort the sound proofing as the wind howls down corridors and keeps you awake. If the people upstairs or next food flush the toilet you may as well be in their bathroom.

Review 85:Slight drainage smell in the room. The arrangement of the lavatory, although the shower was excellent.

Review 86:Friendly, efficient staff throughout the hotel. The food was of an excellent quality and it was comfortable and relaxing with the sea as an ever changing scenic perspective.

Review 87:We booked into the Midland Hotel for two nights from 12th August, 2015.We were allocated room 101, which was very spacious and clean which wewere pleased about, that is until 8.30 P.M. when the noise started. Theroom we were in was directly above the disco. The receptionist did notinform us that it would be noisy. It was a warm night so all the windowsand doors were wide open plus most of the revellers were sitting outsidebelow our bedroom window screaming and shouting, therefore we had nooption but to close our windows, being a warm night our room wasstifling. We had to suffer this until 12.30 before we could get anysleep. The next morning I complained to the duty manager. He said he wassorry but it would be okay tonight as there was no disco on. I paid £125for that night, I may as well have slept on a bench next to thefairground for nothing. I e mailed Lakes Hotels to complain but theyhave not bothered to reply

Review 88:Everything up until the disco started

Review 89:Perhaps a few original deco pieces would have made our stay even more interesting and authentic although I do appreciate the security involved in this request.

Review 90:The Art Deco design and architecture was the draw for our visit. The rooms were very well designed and a pleasure to spend time in. I loved the balcony with sea view in bedrooms and whilst eating. Will visit again

Review 91:Room lacked air con which made for a sticky uncomfortable nights sleep, car parking was quite stressful as the car park is an awkward shape and small. Couldn't find info on spa treatments

Review 92:The location is second to none, the building is fantastic, best view from a restaurant I have seen

Review 93:No criticisms.

Review 94:Wonderful seaside location and real character. The restoration to 1930's style has been done exceptionally well giving a real vintage feel whilst meeting all up to date expectations..

Review 95:The toilet behind the cupboard, especially getting up in the night. Older folk wouldn't be able to cope.

Review 96:Friendly, helpful staff and a good number visible.

Review 97:The information on the rooms gives the impression there are baths in the rooms, ours didn't - just a shower, though a good shower. So if you would prefer a bath, I would request one on booking. Morecombe isn't the best of places to stay and in some area's it is run down. The pier / jetty is very nice and there as been some investment in the southern end of the front. Happy mount park is nice and it is a good location for visiting other attractions. \With the right investment I feel that Morecombe could offer something to couples and leave the family fun days to Blackpool.

Review 98:A very enjoyable stay. The buildings decor is Iconic. The facilities were very good and the level of service was extremely good with all staff members being friendly and helpful. the whole stay was a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

Review 99:Not the hotel's fault but Morecambe is a dirty run down former seaside resort. There is nothing good to say about the resort. We ate in the Rotunda bar and the food was reasonable (there was no alternative outside of the hotel). Breakfast was good though service slow - took 25 minutes just to get the coffee and there were only about 6 tables being served. On the basis that hotels are often priced based on their location the hotel is very over priced at £190 for one night.

Review 100:1930's building with modern interiors.Very clean hotel with friendly staff

Review 101:Not much. I was slightly disappointed with the evening meal for the price but overall it's presentation and staff made up for it.

Review 102:A piece of history wonderfully restored. Amazingly friendly staff.

Review 103:Over hyped. Decor neither one thing nor another and the main entrance was soulless. 'Proper' art deco would have really shown the building off - see the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough where that has been done brilliantly. Evening meal was disappointing.

Review 104:Position

Review 105:On arrival ordered a drink, but didn't arrive.Staff well intentioned but poorly trained, didnt know how to pour a glass of sparkling wine or how to use the corkscrew.Had a good laugh about ordering breakfast with the new handheld computers,it was a miracle that anyone got fed, bring back the paper and pen method.Senior management could be friendlier by just saying hallo to guests, for they are working in the hospitality industry and one in particular wasnt very hospitable.

Review 106:Loved the room with sea view and balcony.Room well decorated, thought out and appointed.

Review 107:The art deco architecture, especially the central staircase. It's stunning! And the design in the room is really clever, with lots of doors that fold out to reveal other things.

Review 108:Service was very poor. On arrival reception greeting was informal not warm and welcoming. Dinner service was very bad, the time between courses was over 30 min. Had to complain twice before any action was taken. Refused to have main course as we just wanted to leave.

Review 109:Poor service considering the prices charged. Kept waiting for all meals- lunch in The Rotunda bar- no one attempted to serve us for at least 15 mins, at dinner service slow and a really chaotic breakfast service with hot drinks arriving very late

Review 110:Interesting building

Review 111:Just a little concerned about the 'step up' in the middle of the bathroom. This was difficult to see and caused an elderly relative some difficulty and concern. Not sure this is 'health & safety' compliant? But the bathroom itself, was gorgeous as were the shower and complimentary toiletries.

Review 112:The luxury and comfort and the 'quirkiness' of the individual bedrooms. The location (near to railway station and sea front) was excellent and the surroundings beautifully maintained.

Review 113:Funny smell on entering the bedroom, a bit like a disinfectant. Not keen on bathroom / toilet arrangement.

Review 114:Loved the location, the bar and restaurant area. Loved the ambience of the hotel. Liked when things went wrong at dinner/ breakfast they were rectified quickly with apologies ( no butter twice but fixed quickly). Pet welcomed & glass of fizz on arrival due to honeymoon.

Review 115:Unfortunately Morecombe doesn't seem to have a lot more to offer than this fab hotel.

Review 116:The rooms are very large & comfortable with a walk in shower. Our sea view was great. Nice cocktails in the bar too.

Review 117:Morecambe is a town which has seen better days. Parts of it are really seedy and run down. Expensive hotel for the location.

Review 118:This is a really interesting 1930's hotel with many original and well restored features. Wonderful views across Morecambe bay. Excellent food and service.

Review 119:Outrageous prices; indifferent staff who cared more for process than customers; horrid tasteless décor in bedrooms - it was as if Perfect Curve from W!A had taken over the design.

Review 120:The stunning location and what remained of the art deco original after a rather unsympathetic make over. The large fluffy bath towels and real milk and cold water in the fridge in the rooms.

Review 121:Room design failed to provide suitable shelving/drawers,also,as a mature couple the bath requires handles to assist getting out plus grab handle in shower as floor quite slippy.

Review 122:Location suited our need for a base to search for holiday home

Review 123:We were a little disappointed with our starters at dinner, but again there was no quibble & they were knocked off the bill. Didn't like that we had to go home!

Review 124:We asked for seaview on booking, but when we arrived we didn't have one. It was no trouble & the receptionist rectified this, no problem. We even got complimentry glass of Prosecco.

Review 125:Took my 12 year old son with me, didn't realise he could choose from the childrens menu at Dinner - it was not offered.

Review 126:The location and the bed was very comfortable.

Review 127:Bed was a little firm and non supporting for my liking - but that is just a personal thing.

Review 128:The room. Loved the design, the little touches and discovering where thing were behind hidden panels. Loved the bathroom, especially the hidden toilet! Lovely terrace restaurant overlooking the bay.

Review 129:The room we chose was not easily accessible. We should gone for disabled facilities.201

Review 130:The building and the setting were splendid. The food was excellent especially the Rotunda bar and so reasonable. The view at breakfast and the sunsets. Promenade for mobility scooter.

Review 131:I have known the Midland since my last visit to Morecambe as a boy of 11-years old. As a 70-+ couple we had to re-visit and try the Midland. It was an absolutely super experience. The dinner we had was really first class and I shall encourage people to visit the Midland.

Review 132:Asked for soft boiled egg with brown toast. Fried egg on toast presented. After fifteen minutes wait for my boiled egg had to catch a staff member to ask. My friend had finished her breakfast when after twenty five minutes my two very hard rubbery eggs arrived. At this point lost my appetite and the will to live. Suggest the kitchen staff have a sand filled egg timer which gives you the exact timing for soft boiled eggs.

Review 133:The bedroom wa s okay and facilities.

Review 134:We loved the Art Deco building with all the features, like stairs, murals, furnishings, carpets etc. The room was excellent with plenty of space for sitting and relaxing. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the Rotunda Bar was good with cocktails.

Review 135:A delightful and attractive hotel with stunning views to the sea. The restaurant food and wine list was very good. The staff were efficient and helpful

Review 136:The only problem was the "Weather"!A

Review 137:Everything about this Hotel was classic the fittings, settings even the music was in keeping with the building, it's a must for anybody appreciating the good things of the " thirties"

The Fine Print
