Reviews for Chy-An-Albany Hotel

Review 1:No bad experiences, but a bit pricey for the time of year.

Review 2:Excellent service, every member of staff was friendly and helpful. The food in the restaurant was really delicious. Good location with great views.

Review 3:Should have been a couple but due to a last minute change had to visit alone. I was able to change from a deluxe double to a single without any problem and at a great price.

Review 4:The shower in room 31 was shocking and the toilets made funny noises after flushing

Review 5:The location was perfect and the staff where very helpful answering any questions etc

Review 6:There wasn't a fridge in the room but I should probably have checked before I booked. It was only a problem because I had some wine to chill.

Review 7:The sea view room had a really good see view. Breakfast was very nice with a buffet and options to order. The staff were very pleasant and helpful.

Review 8:Parking was a bit tricky - only a few spaces in front of the hotel but apparently another car park at the rear. The hotel bar was a bit soul-less.

Review 9:We had a lovely big room at the front (a Family room) with a terrace and sea views. The room decor was pleasant, the bathroom good with loads of hot water and a decent shower. The hotel is a short walk into the main part of St Ives. Breakfast was help yourself and fine. The staff were casual but very helpful.

Review 10:Excellent accommodation lots of room lovely views booked again for next year. Staff where really nice. Very clean very good value for money. We've stopped in more up market places in st ives including the treganna castle and the porthminster hotel of course at a premium, while we have thoroughly enjoyed these hotels we think that we enjoyed our stay at the chy an albany lodge more because of the facilities value for money and friendliness of the staff

Review 11:The cream sofas in the bar area were worn on the arms. The breakfast could have been hotter

Review 12:Location was good. Staff very friendly. Rooms clean and tidy

Review 13:The hotel needs to spend more money on the bedrooms. On the first night, the mattress was so old we could feel the wooden frame through it and so had to be moved to another room. The other room we were given was under the reception / bar area and was very noisy. The heating didn't work properly so the room was very cold

Review 14:Excellent staff and breakfast

Review 15:The rooms were very small, almost not enough room to move a bag around the bed in a double room.

Review 16:Close to town, clean and thew staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really nice and the rooms were warm

Review 17:Once again stayed for pre Christmas holiday, great for visiting Mousehole and all Christmas lights in the area. Helped enormously by the super weather this year. Room redecorated recently, staff as cheerful as ever and breakfast super. Our place to stay in St Ives

Review 18:Lovely views of the bay and harbour. Excellent breakfast including fresh fruit - a clear cut above average hotel fare Staff very friendly and helpful

Review 19:Really great location in St Ives, and friendly staff. Rooms were cute and clean. The breakfasts were delicious and the hostess/waitress was friendly, efficient and accommodating.

Review 20:No towels in the room, one small soap for 2, had dinner on their premises they overcharged us for our meal as well as charging us for an extra bottle of wine it took 3 phone calls for them to refund our money. Staff were snarly & unhelpful

Review 21:Amazing breakfast catered just for our personal needs...welcome at reception was lovely with upgrade option to our room the best ever our room was amazing seaview and spacious amazing stay thank you

Review 22:The room looked over other bedrooms and was small, basic and very dated! There was burn marks in the carpets and marks all over the walls.

Review 23:Excellent location, lovely breakfast.

Review 24:Nothing not to like about this hotel.

Review 25:Wonderful food, loved the dining room and lounge. The bedroom was adequate, just a little small but ok. The staff were good and the girls in Reception were lovely. The location is 1st class. Thank you.

Review 26:Room 37 the layou is not good and felt slightly colstifopic and th e view was terrible just a wall!! The shower had no power and no blind at the window , the overall feel was very dated. The breakfast although plenty of it the standard was not good the sausages were hard and the hash browns were soggy where it had all been standing in its own steam.

Review 27:Hotel was a good location we loved st Ives, staff were helpful.

Review 28:No flannels, take your own.

Review 29:Location, great breakfast, friendly staff, comfortable bed. Delux room with sea view, great price if you are able to book some months in advance. Shower/bath, water hot and with good pressure. Complimentary tea/coffee/drinking chocolate and biscuits

Review 30:Only a corner bath so a little bit squished... No weekend breakfast timings so finished at 9.30.. would have liked it to be a little later so we could have had a lazy morning.

Review 31:Room 24 - Loved the view from our room, from the bed we could see the beach! lovely to wake up too, even though it was raining! large room with a sofa and nice hot chocolate!

Review 32:Lacking character and the decor was a bit depressing. Rooms dated and no sound proofing between rooms. Breakfast was greasy and not tasty.

Review 33:Useful to have parking. Walking distance from town centre.

Review 34:Our room was quite basic but good value for money. Excellent food in the restaurant for our evening meal. staff went out of their way to find out information for us.

Review 35:Very tired decor, cheap and broken furniture, it just needs a facelift. Breakfast staff pretty grumpy and not helpful with my gluten intolerance despite me having informed hotel in advance.

Review 36:Lovely views and location, staff mostly friendly welcoming and helpful. Room good size.

Review 37:As St Ives is not car friendly we had to walk into the town each day and get a taxi back as the hotel was at the top of a steep hill

Review 38:After a small problem with the room we were speedily moved

Review 39:The room we had, the bathroom was very small.

Review 40:Location was good, just 10 / 15 mins walk into St Ives. Breakfast was good, enjoyed our stay for the weekend, would go back there again. Staff were very helpful.

Review 41:The location was excellent The staff were great The food was first rate. I don't usually write a post but I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Loved it

Review 42:No bad experiences at all

Review 43:Bed very comfortable like being at home, lift to all floors, room 39 was spacious, very quiet neighborhood, would definitely stay again, plenty of parking.

Review 44:Although excellent I found the menu slightly expensive for food quantity also bar prices in the upper price ranges. Overall fairly resonable and would return

Review 45:Excellent choice for breakfast. Lift to all floors. Friendly staff. Ample parking at time of my visit

Review 46:The carpark at the back of the hotel could have been better if it was tarmacadam and not gravel. Made it difficult to manoeuvre.

Review 47:It was a most enjoyable stay and staff there were most obliging and pleasant and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was to a high standard too.

Review 48:Breakfast finished a little to early as well as check out times being also a little early

Review 49:Having booked a sees view room, I was pleasantly suprised at just how nice the room was. Extremely spacious, with a large balcony with a wonderful view of the coast and beautiful sunrise. Totally satisfied with our stay!

Review 50:There wasn't anything really bit of a hill climb to the hotel from town but plenty of places to sit and rest on way up to hotel.

Review 51:The staff are very friendly and helpful, food was very nice we only had breakfast but plenty of it and freshly cooked, other meals looked very nice. Lovely view over the beach .

Review 52:Friendly, helpful and very efficient staff Excellent breakfast with good quality jams etc and local produce. Breakfast staff really efficient and worked as a team. Well done to you all and your chef!

Review 53:I had to move to another room due to rainwater penetration. Also the wash basin was too close to the wc bowl. The second room was a family room, but was affected by noise from the floor above ( people talking loudly, footsteps and the cistern refilling.

Review 54:The dining room and lounge with its glorious views and a good reception area.

Review 55:Bed was a little uncomfortable

Review 56:Breakfast restaurant had lovely view over the bay, breakfast also very nice with good choice. Staff helpful and pleasant.

Review 57:Lighthouse Bistro. Food was amazing. Really really good BUT the atmosphere (or not) was frankly appalling. For very little cost or effort it could be somewhere lovely to have a meal.

Review 58:Hired The Lodge. Good facilities and very quiet.

Review 59:Staff not particularly friendly - no eye contact, smile or hello when passing through reception.

Review 60:Great location with free parking. Good views from breakfast room and plenty of choice of breakfast.

Review 61:We asked for a sea view room and got a family room wit the view of a pipe and staff smoking in the back of the hotel ,My neice and her boyfriend had a suite with lovely views and only paid £10 more than us would never go back to this hotel, When we complained they did nothing , The bed was supposed to be a double i kept falling out it was so small .Breakfast was always cold .

Review 62:Location

Review 63:Shower temperature unpredictable. Staff, while not rude, a bit curt and seemed uninterested. Coffee was terrible. Much of the Hotel is outdated and there is NO ATMOSPHERE whatsoever. Pity, as someone who is in the trade, I could see a lot of potential.

Review 64:Super sea view. Room was clean and fine, outside areas kept well. Parking. Apart from that not a lot!

Review 65:The room was incredibly small, with a shower that varied from scalding hot to freezing cold and then packed up completly. we complained on day one, were told it had been fixed but it was exactly the same the next day. Ran out of tomatoes and beans at breakfast, told a grumpy waitress who gave a very abrupt reply but nothing was replaced.

Review 66:The location was very good as there is nowhere to park in st ives and it was only a 10 minute walk into town. The views from the hotel were lovely.

Review 67:Nicer pillows perhaps

Review 68:Good location, superb sea view from dining room and the breakfast was excellent - best sausages I've ever had! The free parking was brilliant.

Review 69:Bar facility poor. Showers awful unprdictable water temperature. Double bed would expect something more king size. Always had to wait for eggs at breakfast. slow toasters. A lot of the hotel is outdated

Review 70:Staff were ok 9/10

Review 71:nothing all good

Review 72:stayed in room 4 with balcony good view, great hotel, nice breakfast , massive room ,could'nt wish for any more, i would state this hotel is 4+ star, about 7 mins from town downhill

Review 73:All ok but the staff at breakfast let the place down. I went down at 8.30 it wasn't busy but service was poor. Coffee was awful and breakfast had been on the hot plate for a long time and was dry and over cooked.

Review 74:Good location, great sea views

Review 75:Staff miserable and not helpful. Rooms very small and outdated. Hotel needs refurbishment. Although we stayed during half term and expected to pay more, we were very disappointed with this accommodation.

Review 76:Location ok

Review 77:asked for a 2persons bed but got 2 singles (that you couldn't place together). Shower had almost no water pressure, more dripping as shower. They advertise with a TV on the room, but my navigationsystem got an even bigger screen (and it didnt come with binoculairs).

Review 78:Location, clean rooms with very comfortable beds and a good breakfast for a decent price.

Review 79:Not very organised at breakfast, 1st day good, after that down hill, had to get our own coffee refill, and wasen' very hot. customers waiting on fried eggs at breakfast, and toast taking far to long to toast, otherwise good selection at breakfast.

Review 80:Comfortable, and clean, and tea /coffee facilities. Plenty of space along with storage.

Review 81:We had to wait for about 20 minutes for the hot breakfast buffet items to be replenished. It would also have been good to have more milk and tea bags available in the room, although I'm sure we could have asked for extra at reception if we'd been staying longer.

Review 82:We had a really lovely, large room overlooking the bay, with a big balcony/terrace. The bed was really comfortable. A fantastic selection of food available on the breakfast menu.

Review 83:The breakfast service was terrible, barely any food available, hair on the table, and awful and abrupt attitudes of the serving staff. We complained to reception, who were apologetic and refunded our breakfast bill.

Review 84:The view of St Ives from the windows was amazing

Review 85:Water pressure in shower a issue as is often the case in old buildings

Review 86:The breakfast was great - wide range and very well cooked - I had the eggs with spinach and muffin - beautiful!

Review 87:Front car park, detracting from view. And badly parked cars, making leaving difficult. Would suggest car registrations attached to room nos. at Reception to facilitate their contact with less-than-considerate drivers/guests.

Review 88:Spacious room; cleanliness; good sea view. Excellent choice for breakfast (including cooked to order items).

Review 89:Shower not great - difficult to regulate and stay on hot.

Review 90:Warm welcome from the friendly and helpful receptionist. Good location with a lovely view. Evening meal very good.

Review 91:I found the atmosphere strange , staff were not very warming , The rooms were small and basic but clean

Review 92:Excellent food , very high standard of food and compliments to the chef.

Review 93:Parking is not that good. I had to park in the road because the car parks had filled up.

Review 94:The room facilities were good, although I had to report a fault with the light, which was not rectified.

Review 95:Evening dinner was fabulous and brilliant value when added as db&b rate. The balcony off the bar was lovely sunny spot to sit and read in morning too.

Review 96:Perfect for a weekend but the room is probably too small if we were staying for a week or more

Review 97:Lovely location. Rooms very clean and comfortable, great breakfast

Review 98:The only thing I didn't like were the hash browns at breakfast, they tasted as if they'd been steamed rather than grilled/fried.

Review 99:Friendly staff, nice comfy spacious rooms, lovely views.

Review 100:Our bedroom was on the back with the view of the kitchen extractor chimney.

Review 101:It was in a good location, very clean, good breakfast, comfortable, large carpark and good value for the money.

Review 102:My husband had to work so breakfast was a little late for him (service starting at 8am) but they opened the doors dead on time and the hot buffet was ready to go immediately so he just about had time to eat. But if breakfast could start at 7.45 it would have been less rush for him and he could have enjoyed it more. (They do offer continental earlier I believe)

Review 103:Short 5 min walk down into the centre of st ives, parking available, as it is on the outskirts of st ives it is easy to get to

Review 104:Check in. Miserable faced and no eye contact at all. Finally a pleasant younger girl checked us in. Took the lift. It was filthy. The corridor smelt stale and very very dated. Room 29. Opened the door to a very strong smell of stale tobacco. It was like a pub the morning after ! Had to ask for a change however the response from the miserable faced receptionist was a shrug of the shoulder and a " well there's nothing else " tough attitude. Again the younger happier receptionist suggested another room that was available. Room 31 I think. That was dull and miserable and no sea view which we'd requested and booked back in August. So we were left with the tobacco room to then discover the smallest closet bathroom I've ever seen. It was laughable. If a size 14 you'd struggle in there. Pathetic. Dated fixtures. Dated curtains. Terrible room! This is a deluxe sea view by the way. Parking was s nightmare. Couldn't wait to leave!

Review 105:The view was the only thing that salvaged this place and I believe they rely on the location to justify the prehistoric decor

Review 106:The toilet and shower was a very small confined space, would have preferred larger facility. No spare loo roll on last evening although had just enough - they left empty carton instead. No sea view from bedroom which we asked for on booking.

Review 107:A fantastic breakfast choice and lovely evening meal. Fabulous views over Porthminster bay from the dining room.

Review 108:Hot buffet breakfast, was only warm and having to make your own toast. The menu stated hogs pudding but there was none on the buffet.

Review 109:The two evening meals we had in the bistro

Review 110:Parking was a bit of an issue, but we managed to find a solution

Review 111:Beautiful bedroom with great views. Breakfast was just right. Bed was very comfortable

Review 112:Small, dated bedroom - not at all similar to wesite images! Was this due late booking with Booking.com? Would not have accepted room at full price.

Review 113:Location. Bright spacious public areas. Very good breakfast. Pleasant gardens.

Review 114:Disproportionally expensive. It is probably the location that allows this hotel to charge so much, but the facilities / rooms offered resemble a very basic 2-star hotel which has not seen any refurbishment since the 80's. I will not book again.

Review 115:Lovely, helpful staff.

Review 116:Facility is old, shower especially. Hot water amount was poor and felt cold after use

Review 117:Location is not far from town centre, and in quiet area Staff was very supportive

Review 118:An en-suite smaller than most broom cupboards - about 28" by 50" - unbelievable! A lumpy mattress with jangling springs.

Review 119:Helpful, friendly staff and good food

Review 120:Staff in the dining room for breakfast weren't very helpful. Actual food was not too bad. Service and welcome were poor.

Review 121:Good location, good room, clean

Review 122:The room was too small the shower room tiny. There was no view of anything from the window, not even the sky.

Review 123:Not much, it nearly spoilt a otherwise great holiday in St. Ives Arriving at our room was the worst hour I have had for a long while.

Review 124:It was raining and would have been nice to have cover on outside top decking many people like to sit outside and enjoy a drink and a view even in cold or wet weather

Review 125:Location and views lovely staff helpful and friendly clean and nice breakfast bit pricy but I guess that's due to the location ( St IVes )

Review 126:Bad check in. Got the wrong room. The three nights we were there, we were in a different room each night!!! Staff was not too helpful.

Review 127:Location and view

Review 128:There was a strange smell as soon as we opened our bedroom door - it was the drain from the sink - black mould down the plughole. It needed domestos or similar. The room was very small, like the 1980's and the en-suite tiny. Thin walls, you could hear things you didn't want to at night!

Review 129:The food was very good, especially the evening meal in the lighthouse restaurant. The view from the dining room was lovely,

Review 130:We did not have any real problems but felt the mattress on our bed was soft from what we are used to at home, but that it nit-picking.

Review 131:We liked the location on the hotel and were able to travel to various location easily.

Review 132:Only things I would mark them down for and it is minor, no flannels or toothbrush holders and no means of drying the towels.

Review 133:Location for us was perfect, just round the corner from our friends. Breakfast was excellent. Staff very friendly.

Review 134:Generally noisy, rooms and hallways need a refurb, small rooms. Overall somewhat overpriced for what you get

Review 135:Good parking and super friendly staff, good wifi speed

Review 136:Sea view was ok to the right brick wall on left side, hardly what I expected having paid extra Breakfast was limited and not being replenished quickly enough. Bathroom was basically a closet!!!! Overpriced considerably for what you got, can do better in a London hotel for cheaper price!!!!'

Review 137:Room was nice and clean, receptionist and staff were nice.

Review 138:Night porter was new apparently and advised incorrect breakfast times which caused us to miss choice of breakfast Rooms rather tired, dated Price - target poor value for money; expected an indoor pool and contemporary decor for what was charged Parking at front limited

Review 139:Food Staff - friendly and efficient
