Reviews for The Clarendon Hotel
Review 1:Dated TV!
Review 2:We were upgraded at no extra cost to double rooms at no extra cost. Lovely bar area/lounge with roaring fire. Room was large and spotlessly clean.
Review 3:Slightly dated in its décor and layout, but at no real detriment to our stay. The shower was a little old-fashioned (but worked perfectly well)
Review 4:The staff were all very pleasant and extremely helpful. The view across Morecambe bay was stunning (when the weather allowed!). The food was excellent, especially dinner.
Review 5:Staff who use initiative and are sensitive to our particular requirements; they went beyond the normal good level of service. Breakfast option included poached haddock!
Review 6:Food was awful. I ordered "home made" Steak & Ale pie and it looked like it had come from a chip shop! Tasted awful. Breakfast wasn't much better. Scrambled eggs were as dry as sand!!
Review 7:The hotel is undoubtedly dated and some of the corridors etc are fairly shabby, contrasting with lovely grand staircases. The bedroom door does not automatically lock on closing, but the room was clean and well equipped, with a good-sized bathroom.
Review 8:The staff were universally friendly and helpful at all times. Breakfast was good. Night porter service efficient. Comfortable bar with sea views. Convenient free car park adjacent to the hotel.
Review 9:I found that although the hotel had a great priced Lunch menu the evening meal menu was a little bit on the expensive side, But would still stay again.
Review 10:Great location loved the hotel & staff breakfast was good so no complaints there
Review 11:The room we had was right at the back overlooking car park, no views to the sea. We thought a bit expensive for this type of room.
Review 12:Very good location, friendly staff and large free car park.
Review 13:Went to Morecambe for the "Vintage Weekend", was going to have afternoon tea at the Midland Hotel but it was packed so booked the tea at the Clarendon, in my opinion just as good if not better and far cheaper.
Review 14:There was a thunderstorm & our top floor room developed a leak. We were moved immediately & were not charged for our stay. Excellent customer service!
Review 15:Very nice character Hotel. Evening and lunch time meals very good. Excellent price for lunch. Davy Jones Locker pub very good. Helen the bar lady very friendly and helpful.
Review 16:The hotel and aera it is in are very run down all furniture was very sticky and in need of a good clean
Review 17:Nothing the staff in hotel were good but nothing else the dinning room and bar area were ok but all the rest was In need of a good clean or revamp
Review 18:My daughter and partner had a problem with the door lock and had to move to a slightly inferior room, but otherwise okay
Review 19:Our room was great with a sea view
Review 20:no one mentioned the bar next door would play extremely loud music which made the windows rattle, as a result we found it very difficult to settle our 5 month old son and then found it impossible to sleep until the Elvis impersonator had finished his set!
Review 21:The staff were all excellent and very helpful, the restaurant was excellent, very clean with a really nice feel and atmosphere
Review 22:Had trouble with onsite parking as staff explained a lot use it for going the market
Review 23:Nice welcome friendly staff room a little in need of a lick of paint but clean breakfast good!
Review 24:Not realising being charged for miscellaneous food we did not eat and for sauces that were charged as extras but not specified on menu.
Review 25:Being offered a sea view swap on arrival. Staff and service here were both excellent. Definitely book here again.
Review 26:The service in the Restaurant was laid back and bordering on slow perhaps due to not enough staff but this was only a minor problem and eating there was still enjoyable.
Review 27:Good location, clean and comfortable and I had a single room which was larger than I expected it to be. The staff were friendly and helpful and the Bar prices very reasonable.
Review 28:Toiletries consisted of mini bars of soap, 2 shower caps and 1 shoeshine sponge. Hair / body shampoo (?) was in a machine on the wall. No conditioner or body lotion. Shower cubicle was tiny - the small bathroom area hadn't been cleaned thoroughly, and neither had the room.
Review 29:Tea and coffee facilities in room
Review 30:When we arrived there was a tray which had the remains of somebodys room service meal in the corridor - it was still there when we checked out at 10 the next morning! We ordered a double room and got a twin, the room was tired and shabby with no wifi connection. Breakfast was a little meagre with no baked beans offered in the cooked breakfast.
Review 31:The bed was very comfortable.
Review 32:Bed was too soft for my liking (but that's a personal preference so it's not a complaint). It would be nice to have a lounge area that wasn't the bar Hotel was clean and tidy but the decoration was just a little bit tired
Review 33:Very helpful and friendly staff. Outstanding sea view Very good value for money Unexpectedly good food; excellent breakfast Room was clean and comfortable Spotless modern bathroom
Review 34:None
Review 35:Perfect location, seaview room. Very friendly staff. 2 good bars with "proper beer". Only stayed one night to catch the Isle of Man ferry.
Review 36:Tired and dated decor and fittings. Needs a major makeover to bring standard up to scratch. Over-priced for current condition.
Review 37:Good sea-front location. Friendly staff. Tasty breakfast.
Review 38:more modern t/v in bedroom could not get my free view programme, and the screen was to small.,
Review 39:quiet and comfortable, although floor boards making a noise, hope o one was annoyed below us.
Review 40:The rooms were large, great views and extremely clean. The service level was High and the staff very attentive and friendly. The breakfast was very good too
Review 41:Although the room was comfortable and the views very good, it was noisy until late at night. Perhaps air conditioning would help to save keeping windows open
Review 42:All of the staff that we dealt with were very good especially the restaurant staff who were extremely capable whilst not appearing to be pushy
Review 43:All of the staff we encountered were without exception, absolutely lovely. It really made our break and kept a smile on our faces. We couldn't fault them.
Review 44:For £80 I expected a slightly better room, it was ok but needs re-decorating and the bathroom overhauled. overall ok though.
Review 45:Location to heysham port, secure private bike parking, on the sea front.
Review 46:Breakfast was awful! Tiny portions and if you are a fan of a full English breakfast you will be really disappointed!
Review 47:Loved our room (the greasingham no2) lovely view of the sea front and big size room. Clean and Tidy good bed.
Review 48:The exterior looked a bit shabby and dated, but this was more than compensated when you got inside
Review 49:Beautiful and very comfortable room with a sea view a short walk from the centre. Very friendly and helpful staff, for whom nothing was too much trouble.
Review 50:The friendly staff. I have a pork allergy and they went the extra mile to accommodate me at breakfast. The room was nice and warm. The beds were clean and very comfortable.
Review 51:I cannot think of anything that I did not like.
Review 52:The room was very comfortable with a splendid view of the bay. The staff were superb, very friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
Review 53:Cannot believe that in this day and age only 4 channels available on TV, no Freeview! Waited ages for breakfast to be served, asked for a clean cup and saucer and am still waiting for it!
Review 54:good size of room
Review 55:Bedroom was clean and spacious but slightly tired and in need of some investment on decor, fixtures and fittings.
Review 56:Friendly helpful staff. Traditional seaside hotel with some beautiful features including the main staircase and plasterwork. Cellar bar provides good beer, entertainment, TV and games.
Review 57:nothing
Review 58:Sea front easy to find lovely friendly staff comfy bed great breakfast with lovely friendly staff and a fab sea view from dining room. Night porter a gem with lots of history knowledge on hotel and a fab chip shop just around the corner. Great value for money.
Review 59:Was very noisy so I didn't sleep very well. Could hear downstairs rooms then next door snoring also. Room was very small with a very old TV that was useless. Food was average
Review 60:Staff were friendly. Smart restaurant.
Review 61:The sheets didn't seem to fit the (single) bed well, so were all loose and rucked up after an hour or so of being in bed. Although there's more to life than TV, as a solo business traveller it's often valuable company, but the TV in the room was tiny and only had 4 channels (and somehow picked up London news rather than local news...), which was disappointing.
Review 62:Staff were friendly, my room had a sea view and the choice and quality of breakfast was excellent (except for some rather old, fizzy fruit juice).
Review 63:The bathroom is a bit small especially for large people like myself. Maybe you might furnish a fan to help circulate the air in the room.
Review 64:The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Review 65:Spring matteris left me feeling uncomfortable for my long journey home
Review 66:Friendly staff , really nice hotel , amazing veiw as soon as you awake in morning!.
Review 67:televisions need an upgrade (eg modern wide flat screens) and a better choice of channels (only four at present). mattresses very soft could do with firm ones.
Review 68:location very good , staff friendly, polite and helpful . very clean hotel. restaurant food good.
Review 69:The television only offered 3 channels. NO FREEVIEW. How outdated!!! Fancied a night in but nothing to watch on TV. Breakfast was tiny. Small bowl of beans(about 15 ) . BAD. Considering the price of the room, this was poor.
Review 70:good that pets are accepted. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 71:Just a little dated wouldn't say I didn't like it as it added to the character of the hotel
Review 72:Loved the traditional hotel experience top service great food best I've Been to for a while!
Review 73:The heating in the room was somewhat difficult to get the right temperature so had a hot night! Hot water was too hot, could not put your hand under it so potentially dangerous
Review 74:The hotel was ideally located and the staff wee so helpful and friendly. The room was comfortable and the bar and restaurant provided good quality food and drink. Great view across Morecambe Bay
Review 75:On reserving the room I was assured that gluten free food would be available. In the event it was almost none existent although the chef did offer to make gluten free gravy to accompany the roast dinner. The only gluten free sweet available was ice cream. At breakfast there were no gluten free cereals or bread. both of which could have been easily obtained from the local supermarkets..
Review 76:The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The general condition of the room was tired looking and in need of a thorough make-over.
Review 77:nothing, I had a great stay
Review 78:big and clean room, friendly and helpful staff, the decor is a bit dated but it's not a problem because the room is great and clean, the views from windows amazing and the hotel has a definite charm.
Review 79:Despite being in the off-season the hotel was quiet and the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is on the sea front which was a bit wild and windy when I stayed. During the summer I would expect the whole area to be a lot livelier.
Review 80:the piped music in the restaurant was loud and even after asking for it to be muted it still appeared loud
Review 81:Welcome of the staff on entry was excellent, having family to join with the evening meal was pleasant . fantastic views of the mountains from my room
Review 82:The hotel misrepresented how 'dog friendly' it really is. We have a little Jack Russell, so pleased to see that pets were allowed. When we arrived we were very impressed with the bar, all lit up with Christmas decorations and a lovely log fire going. We were really looking forward to having a drink there. When we entered it was quite early with only two other people there. We sat down by the fire and I was just taking off my coat when a member of staff rushed over to inform us that dogs were not allowed in the bar or any other public area of the hotel. We were very disappointed, not least as our dog is old and was in his stroller, also the site did not state this. We left, the weather was awful, but luckily we found a bar next door where dogs were allowed. The next dog friendly pub was a real hike away so thank goodness for the place we did find.
Review 83:Pet friendly Location Price
Review 84:We were lucky to be given a room facing the sea. Despite very cold and windy weather, all the public rooms and our bedroom were warm and cosy. The Reception staff were always friendly and helpful. The Restaurant menu was interesting and the food was tasty and served hot.
Review 85:The people in the next room kept bang against the wall. I think their bed banged against the wall, so every 20 minutes I was woken. I've stayed at this hotel many times and never had this problem
Review 86:Room with a view of the sea.
Review 87:Bar staff not aware who guests are, desk staff not available to busy looking after and dealing with private functions.
Review 88:Location, breakfast, restaurant staff,
Review 89:staff were polite, food was excellent couldnt have found a better place to have stayed. would be the first choice again in future when visiting morecambe
Review 90:The floors were very creaky , was making a noise every time you moved , was very worried about the people on the floor beneath , but rhis could not be helped.
Review 91:The location was perfect everything was within walking distance, The staff were polite and helpfull, breakfast was very good , amazing choice not just your bog standard fry up, The locker under the hotel was very pleasant also.
Review 92:Nothing
Review 93:Well what can I say fab hotel brilliant location staff excellent love every minute down stairs little bar really friendly did a fab black Russian with Guinness top good clean hotel always welcoming when you go for your key night.porter brilliant Dident mind opening door a.stupid o'clock when I went out for a ciggy think this will be our new weekend get away
Review 94:The TV - it was old and had restricted channels but I coped even with that, because one gets what one pays for and this place was value for money as far as I was concerned.
Review 95:Morecombe Bay and the view from my window. The hotel, loved it because I like older buildings rather than newer ones. Old does not mean shabby it just means interesting. Also value for money - therefore I do not expect any more or any less than I got.
Review 96:Just a few minor problems that were mainly corrected within a hour, such as two bulbs that were not working. The WC made quite a noise for several minutes after flushing. This was not put right, but annoyed us during the stay. Nothing special, though!
Review 97:We liked the feeling of being welcome. we felt to be at home in the hotel. The staff were most helpful, and the service speedy.
Review 98:This is the second time that we've stayed here and we really cannot fault it. It isn't four star luxury but represents excellent value for money in clean, spacious, comfortable rooms. The staff went out of their way to make us welcome and we will most certainly be returning. Our sea view room was perfect!
Review 99:Rooms need updating urgently. No Wifi in Rooms and only in Reception by icloud - for business traveller, this is a prerequisite. TV in room was too small and very old model.
Review 100:Position on the sea front. Staff very helpful and looked a decent menu. Hotel was tatty but very clean.
Review 101:stay was in oct 14 for two nights had a meal in restaurant food was the best b/fast good all staff were helpful one minor problem tv in my room 24 was as old as me and only 4 channels but that was the only thing the rest of my stay was great
Review 102:Just one niggle. I would say a bone to pick but it there weren't enough to honestly do that. Restaurant menu had ribs as a starter, also a £11 main and a £14 special, both with chicken. I'm not an overly greedy soul but 3 small ribs in a special portion barely scrapes past trades descriptions. When questionned it was to do with costs apparently. Maybe the starter portion was just a single bone..... Certainly the meanest portion I've seen in a long time.
Review 103:Location
Review 104:Room booked over 3 months in advance but still got a room overlooking a side street and noisy on a Sat night/early Sunday. Off road parking was a lottery. Not worth £90 more realistic price would have been £70.
Review 105:Easy to find, Clean.
Review 106:Only4 channels available on TV in the room. Restaurant food overpriced for a quality of food comparable to chain pub food.
Review 107:Bedroom clean and comfy. Quiet allowing a good nights sleep.Had a bath and shower. Good selection of drinks replenished daily in the room-
Review 108:Wasn't keen on the smoked bacon on the breakfast and the egg wasn't dippy
Review 109:Liked the size and comfort of the bedroom and bathroom, the downstairs area of the hotel and the bar underneath
Review 110:Antiquated tv; small beds, hotel too hot, we waited an hour to receive our meal - we only had mains & the restaurant wasn't full, small bath towels Internal rooms need updating. Not all customers are 80 plus! Extras added onto our bill that couldn't be explained - however they were then deducted.
Review 111:Character hotel, friendly reception staff, lift. Good location
Review 112:Our room was very noisy because of Karoke in bar below which went on till nearly midnight. Staff on reception did get the volume turned down when we complained.
Review 113:Good location. Staff very obliging and good breakfast.
Review 114:Room was a bit small & dated but reasonable for the price paid
Review 115:Staff were excellent - very helpful & friendly Restaurant was excellent - food fab & good price.
Review 116:The staff in restaurant very blasé dinner was at six pm we were hungry after travelling from Scotland .we were told a bit abruptly we thought not yet so we left and at around the corner Breakfast staff very nice and great service
Review 117:After staying the previous night at a grubby hotel the Clarendon was like a breath of fresh air clean clean clean I cannot praise it enough breakfast great lovely staff would recommend for sure
Review 118:Room was nothing like as presented on website, would rate as maybe one star. Everything was worn out and needed replacement TV had three channels and was old 16 inch CRT model. Cut our stay short as room was so depressing especially as I had requested a good room and would have paid more. OK for locals but not worth travelling half way round the world for.
Review 119:Staff were very helpful with any request but limited to what they could do.
Review 120:Stayed at the hotel for just one night with friends and family (16 in total) for a 70th birthday celebration. Although an older style hotel, the facilities, furnishings and cleanliness were up to days standards. Very helpfull staff and the location could not have been better. Had an evening meal which was adequate but not exceptional. Breakfast was good. Would recommend it.
Review 121:The town! The streets are very shabby. Sit in the Clarendon, have a nice dinner and enjoy the outlook over the bay - it's probably the best bit.
Review 122:The hotel was attractive inside, with well preserved traditional features such as wide sweeping wooden staircase and high ceilings. It looked, and was, comfortable. The lobby was spacious and airy as was the dining room. I had a lovely view of the bay from my dining table. The menu was varied and interesting and the food was very good. I had a lovely dinner and breakfast and the staff were friendly.
Review 123:the bed . the matress was uncomfortable.
Review 124:the staff were friendly and helpful. the hotel was clean and the breakfast very good. a nice location close to all ameneties a lovely sea view from the room.
Review 125:Staff not to keen to help when problem with non flushing toilet After three requests at he reception and asking to check out... The deputy manager dealt with the matter swiftly
Review 126:Breakfast
Review 127:I didn't order the egg or black pudding they weren't replaced with bacon or sausage so the breakfast was very small.
Review 128:The location was lovely even though we hadn't booked it we had a sea view. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
Review 129:Room very hot . And was a bit noisy outside with window open. Wasn't too impressed with breakfast not much left on the continental section by halfway through breakfast time . What was there was very dry . Service quite slow . Not bad enough to put us off staying again if we were ever in Morecambe .
Review 130:Really friendly and helpful man on reception . Rooms pleasant and clean . ( probably would not be up to standard for any nutters from 4 in a bed , bit of dust on top of pictures etc but bathroom very clean . Didnt try taking the plug holes apart .)
Review 131:The staff were very helpful especially the young lady on the desk who helped with a problem that I had. The building is old, 1893, but I enjoyed the character and the facilities were perfectly acceptable. The restaurant was excellent. The car park next to the hotel on the seafront was a big bonus for me.
Review 132:Just a bit noisey from the kichen extractor fans as we were on the back of the hotel
Review 133:The location was good the staff were pleasant and very helpful felt a home
Review 134:The price of the beer, it was quite expensive, but I would expect that from a hotel
Review 135:The food in the restaurant was excellent, the bedroom was spacious and very clean and tidy
