Reviews for The Gladstone

Review 1:When we stayed the boiler was not working properly so we where unable to have a warm shower. On first look the room was lovely however as the evening went on there was a lot of flaws, there was dead flies stuck to the blind, not all the lights worked in the bathroom, the towel rail was loose of the wall, no hot water on arival after a 7hr drive. And when we first entered the room the toilet had not been flushed, so the bathroom stank of urine.

Review 2:The staff are fantastic, and friendly. The pub food is good, and a great selection of drinks.

Review 3:I really liked the Gladstone; it had more charm and character than most of the hotels I’ve stayed in. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and the freshly cooked hot breakfasts were delicious; so much better than the mass produced variety so often found with the larger chain hotels.

Review 4:The staff were very friendly and always happy to help, the rooms are very nice and cosy. The breakfast was excellent in taste and appearance. I would have loved to stay another night here and woke up to the great views it has. Overall I cannot really fault anything about this place I enjoyed every part of it and had no problems what so ever

Review 5:nothing to report.

Review 6:very friendly staff, excellent quality of room, very good value, good views over the bay and hillside. fantastically clean. with very good food. handy for Llandudno and Conwy albeit located outside (about 2 miles) just off the A55. excellent Wi-Fi connection's. nice to see Somerset cider has reached North Wales

Review 7:Only critiscm is we'd have preferred an option of semi skimmed milk not just full fat but that's if had to be picky.

Review 8:Exceptional food, beautifully decorated rooms, very clean, great location and staff went above and beyond. Will be returning next year.

Review 9:Check in at 4.00pm - I found this too late it was already going dark when we arrived: this was followed by a 10am check out so no hanging around! Also the breakfast room was small and uninteresting, I would have enjoyed eating in the main lounge where fantastic views of the coast were going to waste.

Review 10:Their attention to detail: Fresh flowers, luxury toiletries, real milk from hall fridge for in room coffee, mints on pillow, top of the range biscuits in room, real hangers in wardrobe, lovely room decoration and pictures and much more.

Review 11:the bar closed at 9. o'clock on a sunday evening, the alarms were activated, so you could not use the residents lounge, so you had to go to your room, if you wanted to go out you had to use the fire escape!! we were not told any of this when booking. the breakfast was a complete let down, under cooked and full of grease, plus a black hair!! which put my husband off straight away, they did offer to do another one, but we refused. the dinning room was a let down, dead flowers on all the tables and a sticky mark on the cloth. these things should be addressed.when paying we were asked if everything was okay, so we pointed out the above, which they said they would take on board, and I hope they do, a discount on the bill as a token would have been nice, but as we did not ask, they did not offer.

Review 12:a lovely room with stunning views, and very clean.

Review 13:nothing

Review 14:The Hotel, location, the food was all amazing, the room was lovely and warm, the staff so friendly and had great ideas on what to do for a day out,the food was so nice, fresh hot and tasty, and the location with the hills behind and the sea in front, just perfect we had a great weekend.thank you The Gladstone.

Review 15:The proximity to the busy A55 road precluded sleeping with the window open. The hotel room suffered from excessive noise from adjoining rooms.

Review 16:The staff were attentive and very helpful. The food was very good value for money with excellent presentation.

Review 17:If have to choose something, the road between the beach and the hotel was much busier than expected. Wasn't a big deal for us tho.

Review 18:Staff very friendly and approachable from the very start. Beautiful views from the room 1. Magnificent food.

Review 19:Room was on the small side, the live music on a Saturday can actually vibrate you out of bed.

Review 20:The staff were really friendly, the breakfast was delicious and the sunset over Anglesey was amazing.

Review 21:The restaurant is good but over-priced and we found nothing else within walking distance.

Review 22:Friendly hotel with a good atmosphere, convenient location for visiting the North Wales coast.

Review 23:Good proximity to tourist attractions if you have car but there isn't much within walking distance

Review 24:High standard furnishings and fittings in every room. Sea view room is well worth paying a little extra, although not ideal if there is more than 2 in the room as it can be a bit of a squeeze.

Review 25:The 'mountain view room' was a little tight for space.

Review 26:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Food was good. Car parking good.

Review 27:Had trouble with wifi, but that has generally been the case so far on our trip through the U.K.

Review 28:Staff were incredible, food was very good and the view of the Irish Sea was amazing.

Review 29:facillities in room not upto standard , light not working, plug in sink leaking would not hold water in sink, mixer taps for shower water temperature fluctuating hot to cold & noise from private quarters on one night until 3am kept us awake.

Review 30:Food & staff excellent

Review 31:the room was so small so was the double bed hence the room was stuffy- when window was open the noise from the motorway was disturbing.

Review 32:staff friendly and helpful- room decorated nicely but….

Review 33:I have spent over 100 nights in hotels and guest houses this year and this was one of the more disappointing stays. Decided to eat in the bar, asked for steak and ale pie, sorry run out. OK so decided on the burger, nope none of those in stock either! Settled on gammon, ok but not great. The room was a tiny twin really totally unsuitable for 2 people. Had to squeeze past a bed to get to the en suite. Came down for breakfast, wandered around to find where it was being served. No one around so had cereal, finished that and waited for someone to take our breakfast order. Could hear voices in kitchen, which had a window looking out to the dining area, finally when another diner arrived staff appeared. We had been waiting for 15 minutes by this time. Because the food is freshly cooked, there was another long wait, although 2 slices of cold toast arrived in the interim. A mention for the Wi Fi, it's still dreadful, barely usable. All in all over priced and very disappointing.

Review 34:Stayed with a friend for one night. Checked in by an efficient member of staff. Nice view from the bar. Plenty of parking .Room well decorated and very clean. .Breakfast fine when it eventually arrived.

Review 35:From the map it was difficult to tell exactly where this was located. As it turned out it was slightly out of town on the way to our next stop, the Beaumaris Castle. We arrived in Conwy at about noon and after having lunch visited the Conwy Castle. It is a very well preserved ruin and a must see as a Heritage site in Wales. Conwy has two main streets which are lined with restaurants, tea rooms, and pubs- not much more you could ask for. Getting directions to the hotel we realized it provided a nice head start to the next days trip. The Gladstone is a very nice hotel, with a good restaurant/bar, and very friendly and efficient staff. The food in the restaurant was well prepared and one of our better meals on the trip. (most of the meals were excellent)The room came with breakfast, our first "Welsh" breakfast which was a combination of the Scotish and English breakfasts. Needless to say we did not leave the table hungry. I would definitely stay there again if we visited Conwy Room Tip: Our rooms on the second floor were very quiet and the staff was happy to help with the luggage. See more room tips Stayed July 2015, traveled with family

Review 36:The only minor critic is that it would of been nice to have a mini fridge of our own instead of a shared. With a one year old who loves cheese and yoghurts, she couldn't really have them. Aside from that everything else was great.

Review 37:View from the Gladstone is lovely overlooking the sea and is within easy reach of 'staycation' hotspots and family attractions. The staff are very welcoming and always had a smile. The rooms were nicely decorated and comfy.

Review 38:The room was very small by other accommodation standards. Tiny, high window so no view out at all. We were disappointed. The best part were the breakfasts which were very good.

Review 39:The breakfasts.

Review 40:If in room 5 there is a fire exit that smokers use. This causes draught in room as no one shuts door

Review 41:Great staff. Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast

Review 42:The Gladstone is a wonderful local place to stay! Really nice old building which seems to be renovated recently. The rooms are lovely and you'll find a lot of small surprises. Staff is really helpful and friendly. Very good breakfast and food :)

Review 43:Room too small and no drawers to put any clothes in. There was just a small wardrobe and it had bedding I the bottom and in the drawer underneath.

Review 44:Convenient for area we wanted to visit and always a parking space free.

Review 45:bar prices were expensive and room could benift with a revamp bathroom panels looking a bit worn

Review 46:pleasant staff good location not far from conway with nice views if stopping at rooms at the front

Review 47:We stayed in Room 5 at the back of the hotel. The window was small and did not open very much so the ventilation was poor. It was not a particularly warm night but the warm stagnant air made it very hard to sleep. We requested an electric fan but none were available

Review 48:Traffic! But the accommodation etc made up for it.

Review 49:The views from the bedroom, the food which was excellent and good value. Breakfast was served in a separate room and the choice of food was good and tasted great. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 50:Virtually zero wifi, location is a bit of distance from anywhere but lovely uninterrupted views.

Review 51:Gorgeous location, lovely helpful, smiley, happy staff, virtually everything you could ask for at a reasonable rate, try it you won't regret it.

Review 52:Wardrobe was made of oak and still had a treatment smell. We were unable to put our clothes in the wardrobe. Overheard cleaning lady complaining about us putting finger prints on door panel.

Review 53:Decorated to good modern standard. Good facilities. Pleasant and helpful staff. Amazing beach views. Fresh flowers in the room were a beautiful touch. Bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious!

Review 54:May be limited parking if pub is full. Staff could advise to book a table in the restaurant if they know they are busy that night (no tables reserved for hotel guests by default).

Review 55:Small but clean room and very comfortable bed. Good, home-cooked food [excellent burger and steak & ale pie!]. Excellent breakfast. Sea-view from our window! Good location - very easy to find.

Review 56:Food was average - not that impressed with cereal option of Cocoa Pops and other similar sweet options.

Review 57:Bed was lovely and comfy, really good Wi-Fi access (which was free) and available in the room and hot chocolate one of the drinks options - not just tea and coffee.

Review 58:not far from the town o Conwy view of the sea breakfast traditional staff very friendly and helpful restaurant food is good and reasonably pricedN

Review 59:Nothing. They had to change our room type at the last minute but more than made up for it by giving us money off food and free wine.

Review 60:Service was excellent. Food was great Room was lovely

Review 61:The bed needed some TLC, my husband kept falling out of the bed due to the slope it appeared to have, no point raising with staff as we only staid one night,

Review 62:Location, food and staff.

Review 63:I couldn't manage to get on- line in the public areas, but that isn't important when compared to how lovely everything else was.ffggg

Review 64:The staff are really nice, friendly and helpful, our room was lovely with a fantastic view, and the food was really good.

Review 65:Just a few niggles with room-the electric points were quite inaccessible. The one that I could reach to charge up my phone seemed to have a connection problem. it was the one were the kettle plugged in and when I turned the kettle on it went off after a few seconds and wouldn't charge my phone at all (probably a small wiring problem). the only other socket I could find was behind the bed head and very hard to reach. My only other complaint was that I found the mattress a little uncomfortable although my husband said that his was fine. These are not complaints just constructive criticism.

Review 66:Lovely hotel with sea views. Fantastic breakfast. We had a meal in the bar area on arrival and this was brilliant as well. Good atmosphere as the Gladstone is a pub and eatery as well. Nice room with a sea view overlooking Puffin Island. Would definitely stay again.

Review 67:Very disappointed with the Bathroom. Wash Basin had a bad blockage, not cleared although we informed the staff. Shower rail broken, tiles behind toilet all displaced exposing the cavity, Black mould around bath at one end. Cobwebs all over light fitting.

Review 68:Staff Excellent. Food Good. Breakfast good,

Review 69:The only bad thing I could even think of. Is location. You're a few miles from Conwy town centre. But if I'm honest. It was nice to be out the way.

Review 70:The staff were spot on. They didnt seem to have the word 'No' in their vocabulary. The view was stunning from our room. And the room was also lovely.

Review 71:Nothing of note - double glazing masks the road noise.

Review 72:Friendly / helpfull staff with room ready earlier than booked time. High standard accomodation with excellant sea views from the bay window - added bonus if you like trains the railway is nearby. Pub (with real ale) serves good quality food at reasonable prices.

Review 73:Just one down point, the bathroom fan was very noisy. Could do with a residents area a few more sofas/comfy chairs rather than having to sit in the bar area.

Review 74:Friendly helpful staff, clean room, very comfy bed, lots of coffee and tea sachets, refilled both days.

Review 75:Retrospectively £200 for two nights seemed a bit steep in comparison to other places. Four poster bed wasn't a proper four poster, it was a framework without any drapes, but mattress was comfortable. Bathroom may need a little maintenance as the seal around the bath and front cover was a bit worn.

Review 76:Staff were great, good beer, good breakfast, room and facilities were good. A good sized room, well decorated, nice bay window with a couple of chairs so you can view of the sea and distant coast line.

Review 77:Towel rail needs fixing, bit of a shock when it came off wall. Would have been better to have a couple of easy chairs to sit on in room.

Review 78:Steak night super food friendly staff Location

Review 79:Room 1 was very noisy at night with wind blowing a sign right outside the window. Live band was also on quite late on Saturday night.

Review 80:The restaurant and bar area were really nice. Lovely food.

Review 81:Not major but at times in the early morning you can here staff who live above moving around.

Review 82:We stopped on a Saturday night in February in room 2 which is the luxury double with four-poster bed. The room was clean and comfortable with a nice bathroom and great views out to sea. The staff were lovely and the food, entertainment and company was great too. We will definitely return again.

Review 83:I didn't think I saw the Gladstone at it's best . Because it is the winter they weren't fully open. The earliest I could have breakfast was 8 which was actually too late. On my last day I went without breakfast as I had too far to travel. Breakfast from 7 -9 would be better for workers.

Review 84:Bed really comfy Breakfast great. View superb

Review 85:Bar closing at 7 but we had been told of this by email immediately after booking so this was fair enough and guess it is local licensing laws so out of their hands.

Review 86:Everything...super friendly staff, delicious food evening meal and breakfast, comfy bed and great room with a view...thanks

Review 87:Everything about The Gladstone was perfect, staff, food, atmosphere, Saturday night entertainment, location, views, ambience, would definitely book again and also recommend to friends and family

Review 88:This Was our third visit to the Gladstone. Had the experience not been first class the first time, we most certainly would not have returned for a second, let alone a third visit. A very pleasant atmosphere and exeptionaly friendly and helpful staff made each stay arel pleasure.

Review 89:only issue was the shower, tricky to get the right tempreture, a seperate power shower instead of being run from the bath taps would be better..

Review 90:stayed for one night, the staff excellent on arrival, showed us straight to our room, really pleased, clean tidy and quite alot better than some we have stayed in, staff reserved us a table in the restaurant, food was excellent, steak to perfection and the pork to die for..really pleased with this little gem.

Review 91:The pillows weren't to my liking but quickly sorted

Review 92:The room was very comfortable with a large flat screen t.v and although the a55 and the railway track were obviously there it didn't take anything away from the view of the great orm, puffin island, Anglesey and of course the beach and the sea

Review 93:Food was a little expensive but saying that it was excellent and would recommend the fish and chips and also the steak pie was the best i have ever had

Review 94:Friendly staff, excellent food, great entertainment on Saturday night we stayed and lovely room with sea view and the female manager was a joy and could not have been more helpful

Review 95:The internet service only was available in the lobby.

Review 96:The hotel was very nice and had lovely water views. The modern bathroom was the best we had on our entire 2 week trip. The full breakfast was wonderful.

Review 97:Not a particularly warm welcome. Breakfast served at quite a late time of 0830 hrs - most guests prefer earlier I believe, whether on business or holiday. Thought evening food expensive, though it was tasty. Photograph on booking.com makes the hotel look as though it is right by the water, which it is not.

Review 98:Efficiency of staff when we asked for a meal and early breakfast (served on a tray outside our room). Food was nicely cooked and the red house wine was excellent.

Review 99:I didn't realise it was a pub. However i enjoyed my stay.

Review 100:Sea view, good location in between Llandudno and Conwy. Lovely outside seating area. Lovely dinner and excellent breakfast.

Review 101:No negatives from our stay.

Review 102:Simply one of the best B&B style accommodations I have stayed in. The rooms are finished to anot incredibly high standard and the breakfast was exceptional. We will be returning without a doubt.

Review 103:My husband and I left some things behind in our room and didn't discover it until the end of the day and many miles away. Your staff went above and beyond to help and sent our things on for us! Everyone was very friendly! Also the food was excellent!

Review 104:food and drink was a little pricey.

Review 105:Adele and Paul where very welcoming and helpful,Nice well appointed room, with a really nice view and a very comfy bed,Excellent breakfast, adequate parking.

Review 106:Wouldn't change a thing.

Review 107:Great location . Very comfortable bed with good choice for breakfast Excellent bathroom facilities. Beer selection was very good & excellent quality. We enjoyed Wednesday evening quiz.

Review 108:The booking.com address says simply "Conwy" which is the county. The Gladstone is near Penmaenmawr. We were exhausted & stressed upon arrival after circling Conwy for an hour.

Review 109:The place and facilities were lovely. Great room, great bed. Lovely view! Wonderful bartender who fed us after hours. Saved us!

Review 110:Clean and comfy rooms, full breakfast included. Restaurant was very good. Staff was attentive and friendly. Good location, with sea view. Short drive to Conwy and Llududno.

Review 111:Although generally very clean the toilet hadn't been cleaned from the previous guests. Not a big issue and I'm sure if we'd said anything it would have been sorted quickly as the staff were very good.

Review 112:The staff were excellent and breakfast was good.

Review 113:Way above and beyond all our expectations. Stunning location, wonderful food and staff. We loved every minute and will definitely be back. Thank you for making our break so special

Review 114:Lights were too dark in the bathroom (room 2). Band downstairs were loud when we got back in from a wedding that night but it wrapped up around midnight. Might not be everyone's bag but I wasn't too bothered as it was quiet after that.

Review 115:Room clean and well maintained. Bed comfortable and I slept soundly. Nice touches like fresh milk available from the fridge in the hallway. Hot chocolate for my good lady wife and great view to the sea (bar the A55).

Review 116:Good food, including Gluten Free choices- very important to my coeliac husband. We booked a deluxe double room which was comfortable and clean. Friendly staff, who were refreshingly 'gluten aware'.

Review 117:As much as I was looking forward to staying there, certain things disappointed or even annoyed me. While the room was very nice the bathroom needed some fixing: the wall shower fixture was flimsy; the water temperature was so variable that it made the shower unusable unless you left the shower head into the wall fixture; the ceiling light was so 'atmospheric' that you could barely see anything. While there is a notice online about the noise from the music on Saturday, there is nothing about having floorboard noise from upstairs till about 2am! The live music noise on Saturday was much worse than we expected and no wonder as they put the band and the speakers right under our room! So, there was much more noise than we expected as we had: music, vibration, people yelling and clapping from 9:30pm till about 12:10am. That might be fine if you plan on going and joining the crowd but if you don't it's good to be aware. I don't understand why the owners cannot be a bit more considerate of the people staying there and just place the band in the other room! It would make a lot of difference. As for the breakfast, the non-cooked selection was a bit basic and the cooked breakfast took a bit too long. Also, poached eggs should be runny not hard. And when people ask for toast, would be nice to not have to wait another 10min to get that. Other unusual points for a B&B, as other people already mentioned, were the late breakfast times (from 8:30 during the week and 9 during weekend) as well as the alarm system that was supposed to be on from 12am till 8:30am. The truth is that, overall, we did not feel as being in a welcoming B&B but more in the accommodation attached to the pub. I still do like the pub a lot but I am not sure we'll be staying there again.

Review 118:I've been to the Gladstone before but only in the pub and I love its location, food and ale selection. The rooms look clean, modern and nicely decorated. We had a room with full sea view and we very much enjoyed that view. The location is quite good if you want to drive around in Wales as it's easy to just jump onto A55. The food in the pub is very good and if you stay there on a Thursday you should definitely go for the Steak night as their stake is excellent!

Review 119:The beautiful beach you can see close by is a long walk to get over the A55 and train line. Normally wouldn't be a problem but we had walked Snowdon during the day of our stay

Review 120:Gorgeous rooms, great location, great food and drink and lovely friendly staff. I am looking forward to visiting again

Review 121:Having to leave at the end of our stay !

Review 122:Very welcoming & helpful staff, Room was very clean, well stocked, very comfortable bed, with a wonderful view of the sea & countryside. Excellent range of beers & wines. Evening meals were especially good with an excellent variety - the Steak on the 'Steak Night' was' to die for' - Suculent, tender & full of flavour & locally sourced !

Review 123:This hotel is ideal for a relaxing and comfortable break. Excellent location to enjoy both the tranquility of the coast and the beautiful town of Conwy. We stayed in room 1 which has a panoramic sea view. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel was accommodating with a decked area for people to enjoy the vista whilst enjoying drinks or a meal.

Review 124:Nice bar with a good value menu.

Review 125:Excellent facilities, friendly staff. Breakfast and evening meals first class.

Review 126:Everythink was perfect for my grandaughter and I

Review 127:Spacious room. Lovely staff

Review 128:Very friendly staff, excellent breakfast, good food at a reasonable price

Review 129:Very comfortable room. Excellent service

Review 130:Room was too hot, radiator controls didn't seem to work, but room was over kitchens, I think.

Review 131:Dinner menu!

The Fine Print
