Reviews for Hotel De Normandie
Review 1:Heating wasn't on all the time.......and it was very cold weather. Should leave the heating on during the winter.
Review 2:The decor was pleasant and welcoming. Great sauna and pool with jacuzzi. Food was beyond excellent. Steak particularly cooked to perfection and large portion. Our room was a corner one and very spacious.
Review 3:The location and the value for money. I was only in jersey for a couple of days and I managed to get all round the island using the hotel as a stop off because it was quite central.
Review 4:The pool was cold, I Asked for a double bed and I got two singles pushed together with double covers and sheets. I could have just payed for two singles and din it myself . Very dissatisfied.
Review 5:I loved the breakfast very nice, I also like the decor around the hotel
Review 6:Only slight disappointment was small dinner portions for the 2 course offer but very delicious.
Review 7:Bus stop directly outside so good links to get around. Good facilities even for a budget room. Amazing breakfast.
Review 8:parking can be a problem but additional parking is available
Review 9:the ability to book a room without a breakfast option although breakfast was available if required
Review 10:The "Leisure Centre" felt just a little tacky and I would not have liked to use the sauna as a single female. Climbing out of bed to switch off the bed "side" lamp - room 31.
Review 11:The price.
Review 12:Friendly staff in this traditional, very well maintained hotel. Spotlessly clean. Rooms a bit on the small side but everything you need in a hotel this size.
Review 13:The way the staff member chose to tell us our credit card had been declined ...... which it hadn't! !
Review 14:I liked the breakfast.... The room was spacious and the bed comfy.... but had to be moved to this better room.
Review 15:The pool was freezing! The heater in the sauna was not protected and sounded like it was going to explode. Didn't like the fact my friend went home Ill after eating uncooked food. My other friend also found a long red hair in her salad! Didn't get to sleep until 3am due to traffic being so loud (not much the staff can do about that though)
Review 16:The staff at breakfast were chatty, friendly and polite. The rooms were very clean and beds were comfy.
Review 17:The swimming pool was very very cold- not comfortable to use. An over reliance on budget ingredients made breakfast a disappointing experience. Room cleaning basic
Review 18:I could not find anything to like enough to comment on.
Review 19:The jacuzzi was out of order when we were there. Evening set menu was very poor and obviously microwaved - frozen mushy vegetables too. On numerous occasions food came served cold (this happened with the cooked breakfast too). We spoke to the duty manager who was rude to us so on the last night went elsewhere even though we were half board. Staff were otherwise friendly although didn't seem happy to be working there. Walls were very thin in the rooms and creaky floorboards - you could hear everything going on in other rooms around. Rooms very hot with radiation off - couldn't open windows though as there was a lot of traffic noise & roadworks. No windows in restaurant so couldn't see daylight.
Review 20:The rooms were very spacious & clean. Nice that there is an indoor pool, jacuzzi, sauna and a lovely relaxation room. We could see the sea from our room too. Reception area very nice
Review 21:While the Normand is located close to the beach, it is also right on top of a main road. My first room was on the pavement, right opposite a mini roundabout and bad traffic noise, plus the hum of the swimming pool pump, the hotel did mention noise from the swimming pool pump in the confirmation, but not the main road. The room was changed the next day on request, however any relief at being away from the traffic noise was dampened by yet more fan noise, from outside. Ear plugs blocked that, so a good sleep was managed.
Review 22:The staff seemed pleasant. Being close to the sea made for pleasant walks along Havre de pas on the way to work.
Review 23:Slight negative was the indoor pool that wasn't warm enough and had very poor lighting. If hiring a car both hotel car parks are an awkward shape and a lot of people seemed to be blocked in.
Review 24:excellent breakfast selection. Ben the waiter was great, my wife didn't even have to ask for gluten free bread by the second morning he brought it straight out.Evening bar menu could do with more choice but food excellent. 2 bus stops outside hotel with excellent service and you can buy 1,2,3 or 7 days passes from the driver.
Review 25:Lots of children in the swimming pool and sauna
Review 26:Good quality and amount of food available for breakfast. Clean and comfortable room with a view of the sea
Review 27:The hotel's indoor pool was freezing, it was too cold to enjoy or relax in. We were put in room 37, the window of which is next to an air conditioning unit which kept us awake all night. The guests above the room jumping up and down in the room until 3am...would have gone to another hotel lif we were staying more than one night!!
Review 28:The breakfast was very good.
Review 29:Bed wasn't a double and just two singles mattress put together, protector kept coming off. Several odd marks (Spit) left on carpet from other guest in corridor, this is not the fault of the hotel but the people staying. The cleaner could have done a better job removing it though! Towels provided were hand towels and too small to dry with after shower and the room needs an extractor fan in the bathroom to avoid mold as it looks like other guest haven't opened the window. A fan in the room would be nice as no air moves even with the windows opened.
Review 30:Price was very reasonable and breakfast was good. The hotel is located within walking distance of centre but also across the road on bus stop to town. Hotel are able to book local trips for you at the desk. Shower was good and warm, wifi was good signal all around hotel. Great food in the bar and across the road.
Review 31:unsupervised swimming pool. as men were jumping about in pool, and young ladies had to leave the pool, due to there behavior. and the way they were as disgusting, they embarrassed the ladies. if you cant afford to employ staff to supervise the pool, then put cameras in there with a sign saying so..
Review 32:was disappointed the room had no view, just because was budget room, this was a special occasion for me and my husband, and was not asked on arrival was there anything else we needed..also rooms to be warmer on arrival, as i had to put on radiator myself and the room was cold when i got there.
Review 33:The staff were very helpful, the room clean and spacious and the whole place was excellent value for money. Our bathroom radiator was stuck on, so the whole room was quite warm, and the shower was deafening, but apart from that it was really excellent. The location, on the edge of the town, is nice and quiet and just a short walk to the main restaurants and shops.
Review 34:English breakfast very very poor. Cooked early in the morning and re-heated. Especially the fried egg. You can not re-heat a fried egg
Review 35:Reception staff, were very good
Review 36:Waiting staff not helpful. If you pointed out any problems it was never their fault. Never found the sun terrace as advertised.
Review 37:Reception staff very good especially when our ferry was cancelled. Breakfast excellent, plenty of it too. Manager friendly and helpful.
Review 38:Not impressed with all the staff. Only a couple of the guys in the restaurant were friendly and polite.
Review 39:The room was clean and the overall appearance of the hotel
Review 40:The first few rooms smelt really bad of damp to the point that by the fifth room we went to, had it not have been smell free we would not have stayed. Unfortunately the lady working the day shift on the Saturday who was on reception not friendly or welcoming at all.
Review 41:Sara on reception very polite and friendly dealt with numerous rooms moves on our arrival as the initial rooms we were shown smelt badly of damp. She was very professional and a credit to the hotel.
Review 42:Room was next to the road so a bit noisy and it felt damp, but it was clean and tidy, and well cleaned daily.
Review 43:Great location and really nice helpful staff
Review 44:Other than a 'bar' no other facilities to eat in the evening unless its included in your board. The bar menu is eaten in the bar which isn't massive and a locals bar with fairly loud music.
Review 45:Staff were very friendly and rooms clean and tidy. Breakfast is great and worth going for.
Review 46:Replenishing tea & coffee and bathroom items for the shower were inconsistent for both of us in two different single rooms on half board basis. First night advised late arrival, no mention given to dining room to prepare even a tray for the room with something light. Only after asking what they would do, did the reception staff use something from the snack stand in reception, fortunately. However, I had expected a more professional response, knowing in advance we were arriving late.
Review 47:Lovely restaurant staff, and reception staff in terms of friendliness.
Review 48:Being woken by short fire alarm thro the night, tried to contact reception to find out what was happening but no-one responded. Was accused the next morning of smoking in my room - I am a NON smoker! Get your facts right before accusing clients.
Review 49:Good breakfast, comfy bed,
Review 50:Bathroom could do with am upgrade as I had to run around a bit to get wet. But other than that we had a nice stay.
Review 51:We were pleased with what we got from the hotel. The staff were great and very helpful. Breakfast was very good. Location was also great as it was close to town.
Review 52:Property decor is quite tired apart from the reception and quiet lounge area but clean and good as a base to explore the island.
Review 53:Location good and staff are friendly. Good choice at breakfast.
Review 54:The swimming pool was cold, would have used it more but for the lack of heat especially as 90%+ of the clientele were not youngsters
Review 55:Hotel was decent, clean and frienfly
Review 56:Food was bland and dull for half-board Bar selection was terrible. No wine list. No good wine. Parking was a nightmare with insufficient space and exposed blind exit on to busy road. Most rooms not served by useless lift.
Review 57:Bedroom was basic but had windows on 2 sides.
Review 58:We liked the staff who were helpful, and the view of the beach from the room (ask for a coastal view ). The area is different from the main part of St. Helier, and has some very attractive buildings, an excellent family run Portuguese restaurant (Moita) and a great outdoor swimming pool nearby. The hotel itself has an indoor pool too.
Review 59:Positioned on a blind corner and extreme care is needed. Crossing the road.Taxis are expensive but the bus service is good and only 30m from the hotel
Review 60:Quite, Good Location.
Review 61:The fact they located my daughter and her baby on a different floor to my wife and myself and at the back of the hotel meaning a lengthy trek up and down stairs.
Review 62:Helpfulness of staff, decent food including breakfast. Ability to catch bus outside hotel
Review 63:two meals served cold Jose sorted one no problem, however when Jose was not around his stand in seemed to struggle with communication and putting it right
Review 64:It was nice to see some familiar faces amongst the staff from our previous stay guiding and helping the newer members of the team
Review 65:Overall feeling of being past it's sell-by date - needs a realmakeover. Car parking difficult, squeezed in 2 smallish areas.Breakfast ok but clearly heated-up and unappetising - leathery baconand burnt tomatoes.
Review 66:Position pretty good.
Review 67:A little out dated in places.
Review 68:Good value for money, clean and comfortable room, not too far from St Heliers, near bus stop, nice swimming pool, bar and quiet lounge.
Review 69:Probably the friendliest staff ever - we didn't realise all restaurants in Jersey stop serving food at 9pm - staff ordered us a takeaway so we didn't starve. They also posted back my house keys left in the room. All were lovely
Review 70:Not the best beach in Jersey and a walk required to get to good restaurants in town. Excellent bus service with a stop just outside hotel.
Review 71:Comfy room, great breakfast, friendly staff, good bus service.
Review 72:Booked early breakfast (pre-paid)due to early travel arrangements. When reached restaurant, nothing was prepared. Not even tea or coffee. Left hotel hungry
Review 73:-Enjoyed the leisure facilities -Location to beach
Review 74:Had a cold shower every day, mould on the ceiling in the shower room, curtain broke when tried opening it, the safe wouldn't work.
Review 75:The drive down is beautiful & near the sea. That's pretty much all that was nice about the place.
Review 76:Customer service in the restaurant was very poor. Received the wrong dinner by the time it was brought correctly my husband had finished eating. We were asked if we wanted to sign but we were not offered coffee. At no time did anyone apologise for the wrong dinner and when we checked out no one asked us if everything was ok with our stay. We would not stay there again.
Review 77:I didn't like the bar closing at 11pm, we arrived back after dinner to find the bar closing and there were several other disappointed clients too, we were told its to stop complaints about noise but surely they should find a happy medium it was dead with no music. the hotel should realise that people are on holiday and would like some entertainment or life at least especially on a Friday/Saturday
Review 78:The room was not up to the price standard, old with inadequate wardrobe and drawers and small shower room with noisy water heater. The view to the sea did not make up for the room comfort. Rooms in the hotel's new wing are much better and more comfortable and cheaper.
Review 79:staff really nice and welcoming
Review 80:Breakfasts were rather industrial. The Full English Breakfasts had been prepared well in advance so they were drying and hardened when served. Only the eggs had been done to order. The room doors are a hazard because they cannot be opened with one hand so a person leaving in a hurry with a child would be in difficulty
Review 81:Staff, location
Review 82:Bizarre issues: quizzed about asking for extra cups for room - 2 cups in a room for 3 people; hot breakfast selection not always 'quite' correct - eg beans and extra eggs delivered when not requested; 'fresh' fruit salad for evening meal essentially tinned fruit cocktail from breakfast menu. Relatively minor, but odd.
Review 83:Good location, close to city centre and opposite beach. Nice sea view. Generally friendly and helpful staff. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Made use of the pool, jacuzzi and sauna - always a bonus. Good selection for breakfast and quick service; evening meal selection offered good value and good food.
Review 84:Parking very poor, couldn't fit our vehicle in at all, not very close to town centre if wanting to walk. Shower head not very powerful due to leaking from the pipe. Room was quite hot, could have done with air con. Jacuzzi could do with re-vamp.
Review 85:Nicely furnished and decorated. Spacious clean triple room, clean airy bathroom
Review 86:Could smell the cooking from the kitchen if we had the bathroom window open. Car park was awful reception had to keep your keys so they could move your car. Water pressure was so bad the shower was a trickle and took ages to fill the cistern up - we did let them know about that and so hopefully it wil be resolved.
Review 87:Friendly staff quiet location.
Review 88:Limited breakfast options Reception staff not the most helpful Our room was damp - nothing would dry and the bed linen felt damp to sleep on. There was mould on the back of the curtains and in the bathroom. It was on a very busy road.
Review 89:Main areas decorated nicely Breakfast staff friendly
Review 90:Need to watch for cars on the bend when crossing road to get to beach
Review 91:Very good beds and nice indoor pool. Spacious bar and lounge areas and games room. Attentive staff.
Review 92:In the bedroom, the duvet and bedding was too thick for summer. Staff could have smiled more and been friendlier-like Ben who was cheery at breakfast. Room was basically clean but window catch needed repairing.
Review 93:Good breakfasts. Bus stops outside. By the beach. Good Thai restaurant and pub over the road. Swimming pool, but a bit small when children jump around and hog it with Father watching! Ben the waiter was the only one who interacted and smiled at us!
Review 94:1 bad night with noisy party at the back of the hotel ( not hotel premises). The room backed on to a private garden. Manager offered to move us to another room.
Review 95:Restaurant staff were extremely friendly & helpful
Review 96:Location, breakfast SUPER, bus service outside HOTEL, beach across the road, ROOMS clean and fresh towels every morning. Pool sauna and steam room super
Review 97:Unfortunately our family room was located right above a bar and the volume of noise on an evening was unacceptable. On arrival, our room was extremely humid but we were unable to open the windows because of the tobacco smoke blowing into our room from the people in the bar below - this wasn't a good environment for my family which included three young children.
Review 98:The staff were friendly and helpful and there was a good variety of food on offer at breakfast time. The indoor swimming pool was also a good feature.
Review 99:Breakfast was good but staff not well organised at breakfast time so wait to be served was variable. Room was a little small with travel cot in - maybe something to consider if you are thinking of taking a small child/baby with you to the hotel.
Review 100:Good location, Breakfast was nice, excellent facilities. On first night put on third floor, only accessible by stairs which was difficult to say the least with a 5 month old child, a pram and luggage to carry. We were however moved the next day and the hotel staff moved everything for us.
Review 101:There was not heater in the room or bathroom to dry any swimming gear or as we were traveling by motorcycle our gear due to the rain the staff did dry our gear in the laundry room which was a big help
Review 102:The bed could have been bigger
Review 103:The hotel was clean, rooms cleaned daily. The food was excellent the waiters friendly. Location was great straight on to beach with a pub & lovely restaurants close by. A short walk into the centre of St helier
Review 104:poor parking staff only friendly when suits them maids don't speak English only changed pillowcases and not the beds in 2 weeks shower in room filthy old bed bases and carpets and toilet made room smell funny so had to clean it our self for the service we go it should only be a 1 star hotel don't go there as you will feel very old when you leave I can sum this up in one word RUBBISH
Review 105:beach and the towns
Review 106:The squash of car park, though staff very good at sorting it out. Being on the corner a bit dodgy crossing the road .
Review 107:Staff friendliness and comfortable bed. We were travelling with our son and grandson and the waiters made a fuss of him and especially Ben who helped him feel comfortable using a buffet.
Review 108:The hotel charged us an extra 40 pounds on our credit card and we haven't contacted them to find out why but disappointed to discover that. I did have trouble setting the safe and was never able to use it but neglected to tell office staff. Still upset about extra charge without the explanation.
Review 109:Location by the beach and restaurant and proximity to public bus. We found our room quiet and bed comfortable. The included hot breakfast was enjoyable and appreciated that tour bus came directly to hotel.
Review 110:Excellent location - easy walk into St. Helier. Choice of food at breakfast was great. I had a quiet room and really appreciated this. The room was small and no view to speak of, but overall I think this hotel represents great value for money.
Review 111:Very bad customer service, grumpy staff at reception and at breakfast. When we arrived we were told we had to hand our car keys over in case we were blocking others in the car park -which we couldn't have been as we were in furthest corner of overflow area - & there was no acknowledgement that we hadn't expected this or that it might invalidate our insurance. We were just told we would have to use the public car park if we didn't hand over our keys. With a bit of effort they could make it clear on their website and/or number their spaces so they know which it applies to.
Review 112:The car park is very small and someone is guaranteed to be blocked in so you have to hand over your car keys to reception so they can move your car!
Review 113:My husband and I spent three nights here and really enjoyed ourselves. The staff are friendly, the breakfast was very nice and it's within walking distance of town.
Review 114:The only minor down side was the lack of entertainment on an evening.
Review 115:The staff especially the manager were all professional and friendly nothing was too much trouble whic made my aged mother and myself feel very welcome
Review 116:The room was in a corner of the hotel, facing the road , really dark and above the bar; Poor isolation and noisy. Bathroom reAlly old but not in a nice way! Bed too short and too high
Review 117:The beds were too soft for our liking. Parking was a challenge but solveable, and happy to have it.
Review 118:The children loved the pool. And the breakfast. We had a good stay. So close to the beach.
Review 119:Very difficult parking. Given keys to our room which already had someone in it. Given another with no problem, but was very dated. The bed was appalling. We both rolled into the middle and it was so soft we hardly slept. Very noisy traffic because of the position it is in. Other guests quite noisy too.
Review 120:The staff could have been a bit more friendly.A smile and good morning wouldn't go amiss.
Review 121:The location of the hotel is very good, five minute walk into St helper.the breakfast was very good as much as you like, the hotel was clean and comfortable.
Review 122:Very pleased overall. Hotel was clean and tidy, all amenities we needed, including lovely pool and Jacuzzi with towels provided. It seems they have thought of all possible needs. Food good, and staff extremely polite, friendly and helpful. Would certainly go back again and recommend a friend.
Review 123:Unable to sleep room was hot and location was far to noisy to open windows and sounds of traffic. Also parking was a nightmare the pool also was full of chemicle and caused a bad rash on our 2yroldq
Review 124:Clean bedroom and breakfast
Review 125:Booked a double room and when I got there was set up as a twin. Was rectified after 1st night after mentioning to reception. Parking! Tiny car park in front of hotel with instruction that you had to leave your keys with reception so they could move your car around. Entrance & exit of car park are on a blind corner. Public areas are nicely decorated but some of the rooms & corridors are a bit shabby. Had to navigate quite a rabbit warren of corridors to get to my attic room. No view - even from front of hotel. Staff - some very helpful, some less so. Waiters served the "Bar Menu" of food in the restaurant but then told you that you had to get your drinks from the bar yourself with, and I quote" I haven't got time to go and bring drinks orders"!
Review 126:Clean, comfortable rooms. Good powerful, hot shower Good food in restaurant. Plenty of choice at breakfast.
Review 127:Very noisy throughout the night. Could do with signs asking residents to respect the fact that others may be sleeping at 2am and not to run along the corridors, slam the doors or jump down the stairs during the night. Also when people use the car park during the night it would be better if they didn't slam their car doors and had a volume control to their voice, they don't need to speak really loudly in the middle of the night.
Review 128:Breakfast was fantastic, you certainly wouldn't leave feeling hungry. The waiting staff were very friendly, especially Ben. Lovely sea view from our room, Nice swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna.
Review 129:Some of the restaurant staff were very unhelpful so much so that we didn't have breakfast after first morning.
Review 130:Reception staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 131:Outdated and very basic rooms. Not modern as advertised. Parking is a nightmare. Breakfast finishes at 9.30 - too early give that places don't open until 10am. Downstairs room was like part of conference centre. Two stars max for the rooms.
Review 132:Comfortable bed
Review 133:Parking can be an issue, limited spaces.
Review 134:Good value hotel, clean and tidy. Kids enjoyed the pool. Breakfast was good, Ben one of the waiters always had a smile and brightened the start of our day.
Review 135:The whole experience fantastic and location so central and the staff and manager couldn't do enough for you. Very impressed and would go back again.
