Reviews for Swinton Park
Review 1:I liked the high quality approach to everything at the hotel, especially the friendliness of the staff. This was a more expensive hotel than I have used before as it was a special occasion, and it met my hopes for a luxury stay.
Review 2:There were no water cups and the water bottle in the spa was empty during the hour we had booked for use
Review 3:Location, building and grounds beautiful, falconry taster session brilliant
Review 4:The Semerwater room was amazing. The room was huge but was still comfortable. We dined on the restaurant which was a wonderful experience and the food was amazing. It felt homely and the staff were friendly and nothing was too much trouble.
Review 5:No toiletries on day 2, service wasn't consistent on the 2 days we were there. Harrogate bathroom could do with an update as shower very small
Review 6:Comfort of the bed and lounge areas, the bar food and breakfast.
Review 7:Room was too warm, the heating was overbearing which was only realised in the middle of the night so we couldn't do much about it.
Review 8:Staff were lovely, we were made to feel very special. The dinner was incredible. The surroundings were beautiful and calm.
Review 9:The only negative was that our room did not have any kind of view as it overlooked a service courtyard.
Review 10:Beautiful building and surroundings. Luxurious interior but at the same time very accommodating for young children. Excellent breakfast and service.
Review 11:The room was very warm and the bathroom in need of updating. The laminate floor was out of keeping with such a beautiful house.
Review 12:The evening meal was excellent. The walk around the lake was stunning.
Review 13:The sauna. Shower's pipe was blocked.
Review 14:The character of the hotel and a location. Enjoyed the open fire in The drawing room and The bed was really comfortable
Review 15:Didnt like the two beds made into a double was uncomfortable and asked for a double. Very dusty room and toilet hadnt been cleaned.
Review 16:The property , the grounds, and the style of the decor.
Review 17:Upon making a reservation for dinner, I was advised (by phone) that the restaurant was closed due to a function in the dining room, but that I could have dinner in the bar. I was told that the dinner menu was still being served, as I had said I didn't want a bar meal. It was on this basis that I made the reservation. However, when we arrived for dinner at 7.30 pm we were presented with the lunchtime menu - pasta, burger and chips etc. When I explained that I had been advised that the dinner menu would be available, I was shocked to be told by the male member of staff "I don't think that you would have been told that". Outrageous! If I had been told it was only bar food, I would have booked elsewhere and added to that I am not in the habit of telling lies, as was the inference of this member of staff. The reception staff tried hard to get us a table at various local restaurants but as it was now 8 pm on a Saturday night, we were not having much luck. We eventually got a table at the Blue Lion in East Witton and that was lovely. However, the £38 return taxi fare caught us by surprise. We will book again when the restaurant is open but be warned, if there is function on, you will need to book dinner elsewhere unless you are happy with the burger and chips type food on offer.
Review 18:The hotel is beautiful and there is wonderful attention to detail in the small things like flower arrangements made up of flowers and greenery from the grounds. Very comfortable beds and lots of space in the room and bathroom. The grounds are beautiful. A deer park that seems to go on forever and acres of beautiful woodland and lakes. Truly lovely setting.
Review 19:The heating !!! It was cold in the hotel generally, we re-booked becauseour experience last year was lovely and the hotel was warm and cosy withfires burning in the lounge areas and reception. This year the man thatsets the boiler was on holiday and therefore the timings were wrong andthe heating did not come on until after 730pm and then only until 10pm.It then came on at about 645am and went off at 8.00. The reception staffoffered me their heater - apart from the fact that the room was bigtherefore it wouldn't have made the slightest bit of difference, they have moved the reception desk to the hallway and the poor staffthere would have been frozen! (Moving the reception desk was not a goodidea!!) We went out to eat and drink because the restaurant would havebeen cold and people were wearing their coats in the bar when we lookedin! I sat in the room with a blanket round me when waiting for myevening bath. I also had to request fresh towels due to the fact thatthe heating didn't come on, the ones we had used in the morning werenot dry when we wanted a bath before dinner. This then contradicts thewhole point of re-using towels in order to protect the environment as Ihad to ask for new ones when the old ones weren't dirty - just coldand wet! I wonder if costs are being cut in order to accommodate thebuilding of the new spa and maybe saving up so that the heating can beon next week when it is half term and lots of people will be staying. Iam sad that this visit was not up to the expectation that we had fromour last visit and we will be considering returning to the B&B westayed in for the 3 peaks challenge - it was £200 cheaper a night andthe whole place was as warm as toast!
Review 20:The room was very spacious - we had stayed last year and wanted aslightly bigger room this year so that we could relax in it late in theafternoons as my husband had completed the three peaks challenge beforeour visit. The breakfast is very good and the staff were helpful.
Review 21:I think there were a couple of trainee waiters on, which was perfectly reasonable for a Monday night, but the restaurant might run more smoothly if you had an extra experienced person to call on under those circumstances.
Review 22:The rooms, dinner, the park, what's not to like. A wonderful base for exploring the dales
Review 23:Not able to get a Spa treatment because of staff shortage but good to see Spa being extended
Review 24:This place is fabulous and one thing you must try is the Falconry with Sophie
Review 25:Reception area now moved and somewhat cramped. Previously we'd been greeted by staff in tweed and escorted in - felt very personal. On this occasion the reception was more like any other hotel.
Review 26:The restaurant food and service excellent yet again. Fantastic dinner and breakfast.
Review 27:My room is not as big as the picture shows and with small windows to the back yard of the service area. No view at all !!!!!
Review 28:Nice grass land, gardens, birds and deer park.and beautiful castle with very comfortable private spa room.
Review 29:Restaurant was expensive and there were a couple of errors in the cooking and service, didnt spoil our evening.
Review 30:Great for spotting wildlife from your bedroom window.
Review 31:We stayed here 6/8/15 for the second time, we previously stayed 18 months ago & we love everything about it, beautiful views & the staff look after you well.
Review 32:Nothing
Review 33:Everything from start to finish was jusr fantastic! We loved every moment. The rooms are beautiful, the place stunning and the setting glorious. There is so much to do there. We loved the deer park & the birds of prey. Everything is so well thought through even down to the smallest touches such as a boot room to borrow coats & boots. We loved the extra special things such as the bear on the bed. We would love to come back and only wish we were able to stay more often as the prices are top end for us but we will look out for any offers and hopefully stay for longer next time.
Review 34:We loved the beautiful location of the property lovely walks around the Estate. Our Dog enjoyed coming along with us very convenient with its gorgeous grounds and great being a pet friendly Hotel. We loved the whole atmosphere and would return again it was a lovely treat staying here.
Review 35:The restaurant food was not very good. Breakfast was bad. Service extremely slow. Dinner Menu is limited since the whole table must order the set menu or none of you can order it. Alicante menu is very limited. The waitress did not tell us this upfront. Only after we ordered did she come back ten minutes later and told us we both needed to order differently. However, no exception for people with food allergies.
Review 36:The hiking was great.
Review 37:There was a constant humming noise all night, im sure this wouldnt bother most people but as we live in the middle of nowhere we are use to silence. Mark the manager was very understanding about the matter.
Review 38:Been greated on arrival and our car been parked for us. The falconry experience was super thanks to Sophie
Review 39:Disappointed with our standard room, view looked onto back yard, TV faulty, could not watch programmes in the evening and could not get sink basin plug to release. Our appointment in the hot tub was delayed, had to ask at reception twice before given the ok to use it.
Review 40:Lovely grounds.
Review 41:Loved that as soon as you arrived a valet was their to take your luggage and park your car. The staff were all friendly and polite. Soft music was playing as you entered into your magnificent room. Complimentary drinks in your room on arrival. The general atmosphere made our weekend extra special!
Review 42:Nothing!
Review 43:Me and my girlfriend went for our anniversary and we had a lovely time. The staff were very friendly and personable and the food at Samuels was delicious! The room was the Knights room and was very comfortable, there was free whisky too :). Te bed was huge and so soft! We were lucky with the weather and walked round the grounds which have a great view of the Dales. Later we visited Haworth which was nearby so reallt well located for that! Overall very happy!
Review 44:Cooked breakfast on first morning - overcooked and dry - second morning beautiful! Restaurant evening menu a little bit limited and pricy, but good food.
Review 45:Private one hour use of spa - lovely added bonus. Beautiful large bed View of lake and deer - after asking to be moved to room with a view ( initially over back staff yard)
Review 46:Absolutely NOTHING
Review 47:Excellent service and attention to detail. Food was superb. 7 course tasting menu and accompanying wine is a once in a life time experience not to be missed. The staff were exceptional in their ensuring everything was there to make our stay extra special. The grounds surrounding the estate are magnificent. Rating 9.5
Review 48:We loved the hotel. The staff and accommodation were wonderful. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The food was excellent. We ate in the bar, sitting room and main dining room and everything was superb. It had a lovely homely feel whilst making you feel special. The location was great. Close to the Dales and many local attractions to visit as well as having beautiful grounds that covered many acres to explore. We would definitely visit here again.
Review 49:The staff were friendly, helpful without being intrusive. I loved the fact that none of the serving staff in the restaurant asked that crass question, beloved of mediocre places, "is everything alright there" when I was eating.
Review 50:nothing!
Review 51:helpful staff, magnificent house and gardens, first class food good wine list. Price of room was cheaper than other four star hotels in the area and far better quality on all counts.
Review 52:None
Review 53:Attentive staff. Large and comfortable room with a nice front view of the garden. Abundant wildlife in the multi-acres garden, with deers and birds. Visited their bird hide with feeders that attracted small wild birds. Dinner was great too.
Review 54:Having to wait so long for breakfast which when it arrived was dried up bacon & over cooked egg. Carpet under settee in bedroom not seen Hoover for a long time.
Review 55:Comfortable bed. Complentary drinks
Review 56:hope that planning for pool and gym and bistro does not distract from why we go there ?peaceful with great ambiance if it gets to busy will lose its charm and individuality. Cost is steep with evening meal, does not want to get to much more as they will lose custom.
Review 57:forth time here , location great ,very relaxing, you get what you pay for, great walks, golf is on doorstep loverly course, not cheap but great for a few days.
Review 58:Stopped just one night during our journey thru England, we got fully what we expected. The venue is fantastic, a gem set in a lovely park. It's worth every penny we spent. Excellent service, relax, quietness are just plain words to describe our experience, it deserves a visit. The building is magnificient, a walk in the part make you feel part of the real nature with its lakes, ponds, woods and deers (yes there are lot of deers belonging to the estate. Take out your shoes and walk on the grass, you'll feel in harmony with the surroundings.
