Reviews for The Quay Hotel and Spa

Review 1:The room smelt a little musty when we first walked in but the smell went within a couple of minutes of having the window open and heating on. The biggest disappointment was breakfast. We chose room service, the full Welsh breakfast tasted like it'd been sat a while. No butter with the toast and no salt/ pepper sachets. After the excellent meal in the evening we had high expectations for breakfast, we ended up having a brunch elsewhere .

Review 2:Stayed for 1 night. Lovely hotel and great location. Chose the marina classic double, the courtyard view would have been just as nice. Lovely room and unbelievably comfy bed. Ate in the restaurant and had the 3 course meal. Food was brilliant and staff were very welcoming and friendly.

Review 3:Invariably the railway crossing gates were down on the way into and out of Deganwy Quay and took ages to clear. This was not the hotel's fault of course, just a bit of a pain about the location.

Review 4:Very comfortable room with a terrific view and the staff were warm and friendly.

Review 5:The only little niggle was that the restaurant was very busy, we found that we could not get a table on our first night, and had to book a table for the following night to secure a table. The bar/restaurant was also very busy , not very big for the size of hotel.

Review 6:We stayed in an executive double room for 2 nights, the views from the balcony were stunning. The food in the restaurant was very good. We also enjoyed the swimming pool and spa. The Staff were very helpful and polite, Overall we had a relaxing stay.

Review 7:The restaurant was woefully under staffed at dinner and breakfast. They were so nice, I felt sorry for them. It was very expensive and I felt the service should have been excellent.

Review 8:The location and room were lovely, the shower needed more pressure, it took an age to get showered.

Review 9:We had booked marina view rooms and a disabled room for our friends but despite booking 12 weeks ago neither requests were met! The staff were sorry and gave us a round of drinks, but my friend who is in a wheelchair can't get in the bath so a disabled room should have been given to him!

Review 10:The location, style, food and staff

Review 11:Water pouring in through the French windows. Buckets employed by the staff to catch the water. The carpets being soaked. The smell of wet musty carpets . The sounds of dripping all night. We could only use the bedroom and lavatory without the smell. No discount offered for the room

Review 12:The shower wasn't very powerful and the bed wasn't particularly comfortable. This wouldn't put me off coming back though!

Review 13:Gorgeous hotel, lovely bar and fab location.

Review 14:The staff in the hotel were not very warming and friendly. It was special occasion for me and my husband and we feel the staff didn't make our stay feel as special as other hotels we have stayed in. The pool facilities did not live up to expectations for example the pool was cold each time we went and there was no jacuzzi which would be expected in a hotel and Spa . Although the hotel had stunning views our room faced the car park and we were unable to enjoy the beautiful view of the estuary

Review 15:The hotel views were second to none, the spa was lovely and it was close to local amenities.

Review 16:We arrived for the wedding of close friends and whilst the hotel itself was sufficiently pleasant, the catering and management of catering and service for the event was appalling! A total of 4 staff and 1 manager had initially been allocated to serve a wedding breakfast to more than 70 people. Consequently, it was disastrously slow and left the wedding party sitting with empty plates in front of them for an unacceptably lengthy period of time. To add insult to injury, the soup prepared for the first course, was so salty it would have killed a whale. It was rather reminiscent of drinking from the Dead Sea. It didn't really get any better. Overall, I would not choose to have any function catered and managed here. At breakfast, I burned my hands on lids to the buffet which I had to remove myself as the chef on duty made no effort whatsoever to assist. He would have known and should have known that these things were hot, but there was no warning. Poor service overall from kitchen.

Review 17:The front of house staff and the housekeeping staff were excellent. They balance the right level of friendliness and formality which makes you feel welcome! Thanks to the bar staff - Bailey and Associate and to all who made the stay pleasant. Breakfast buffet was included in the price and though I was there at the opening time, some elements were already rubbery. All being said and done, a good selection of continental and hot breakfast was available.

Review 18:The restaurant service was absolutely shocking; very slow and forgetting orders. For a 4* this wasn't acceptable. We felt sorry for the chefs as the food was lovely. The shower was a mere trickle too. We have taken all of this up with the hotel manager.

Review 19:Beautiful location, lovely rooms, great food and friendly hotel staff.

Review 20:When we arrived at the hotel we had a problem as our booking wasn't confirmed at the hotel. The staff member on duty that evening managed to resolve the problem for us giving excellent customer service. Views from the room overlooking the quay were beautiful. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Enjoyed having breakfast in bed the food was lovely, would most defiantly revisit the hotel again in the near future.

Review 21:Pool could be a little more lit, as darkness approached it was very dim on window side of pool - some subtle lighting would improve this.

Review 22:Staff attentive without being intrusive. Spa facilities and treatments excellent. Lovely room with comfortable bed. View of marina delightful.

Review 23:pool facilities were a bit tired, jacuzzi run for a very limited time and the sauna door didn't close properly, so not much heat build up!

Review 24:good friendly staff, comfy bed and great food.

Review 25:All of our group had problems getting acces to our rooms with the key cards. A smile from the reception staff would be nice !

Review 26:Fantastic well equipped suite room with estuary view. Used the spa and had a very relaxing massage and facial. Great pool.

Review 27:The rain!!!

Review 28:The only thing I didn't love about our stay was the rain..... Everything else was fabulous. Definitely recommend staying here, we will be going back.

Review 29:a 4* hotel / spa that has 5* staff. Everyone was very welcoming and always had time to help. The pool / gym are restricted as far as size is concerned, however the spa is very clean and well presented even if it is, also, a little on the small size, which cant really be helped!

Review 30:Room temperature was too hot and no real control of temp other than to open door.

Review 31:Friendly and welcome staff in a beautiful surrounds. Hotel room was very spacious and comfortable. Good food and relaxed bar area. Highly recommended.

Review 32:We paid for an upgrade for a superior marina view room and were very disappointed to find we had a disabled room with no bath. As the hotel was full we could not be moved so did not cause a fuss. However the purpose of my trip was a break away from my caring responsibilities and so this room did not help me forget!! We also could not get in the restaurant for our evening meal ( it was full) so had to have a bar snack..

Review 33:The location was excellent and so too was the breakfast. The bar snack we had was also excellent. We would definitely come again and bring some friends, but book a table in the restaurant earlier next time.

Review 34:this was a last minute booking for one night only, and we felt very welcome and settled immediately and when we asked for room service, it was prompt and was very well presented also the spa and pool was excellent.

Review 35:Nothing, no complaints at all.

Review 36:Views were beautiful, staff very helpful and friendly, the food was really lovely too. Had a brilliant stay and we will be back!

Review 37:Room had 8 dragon flies on the first day spent spent the first hour sorting them out first before we could chill.had few issues with the cleaning staff not leaving clean glasses behind and leaving the dirty ones

Review 38:Breakfast was great

Review 39:Cleanliness was a bit poor.. The pool area and changing facilities were dirty with lots of lime scale on door handles. Our room, upon arrival had a half eaten biscuit on the tea/coffee tray and it had not been re-stocked, no tea bags, milk etc.

Review 40:The bedroom.. Comfy bed. Views

Review 41:The shower had hardly any power and was either very hot which scolded us or cold . We couldn't get it to stay one temperature

Review 42:Location , view from the room . Food in the restaurant

Review 43:Very expensive restaurant and food wasn't up to the standard expected. Staff need more training as wrong wine brought to the table and waiter when told what wine I ordered said no you didn't!

Review 44:Location was beautiful

Review 45:Only minor thing and it is minor was that on our first evening a member of staff, front of house in bar are did not seem to meet the standards of the rest of staff services, would have been nice for us if he'd welcomed and asked if we'd been before and if we knew what process for food and drinks was -like staff at breakfast time were, they were really helpful and friendly

Review 46:Everything from staff to location and facilities, arranged to have surprise flowers at breakfast table for partners birthday and all staff were aware of this when I asked, obviously good communication

Review 47:The dinning room is gloomy, lighting is very poor, food was good at times but poor at others., The dinning room needs direction, some male staff a bit too familiar, continental staff very good.

Review 48:The location is excellent, the room was superb, very clean, quality furnishings and fittings very comfortable,

Review 49:Leisure facilities are excellent ,the food good value for money and tasty and the spectacular view. All the staff are so polite friendly and welcoming ensures a relaxing break

Review 50:The shower was very disappointing considering the overall standard of the hotel. The bar and restaurant areas would benefit from an update.

Review 51:The location is excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 52:Hot tub not hot. Walk outside from the suite to reception/pool

Review 53:Excellent view of the estuary. Excellent bar staff service & unexpected evening entertainment in the bar area.

Review 54:Only really a couple of negatives. Balcony wasn't clean and could of done with a bucket of water over it to get rid of the bird poo. (bit grim) Wish I hadn't tipped the red wine sauce over my steak, unfortunately it just tasted like marmite and spoilt the main. This was mentioned and I was a little shocked to see it on the bill at the end of the meal but there you go.

Review 55:Great location - the view from the balcony was excellent and staff were all happy to help. The spa is lovely and the decor around the whole hotel is great. On the whole a great night's stay and decent food.

Review 56:We had dinner in the restaurant and found that ourselves and other diners were often left waiting for around 20 minutes between finishing a dish and the dish being taken away or indeed trying to order a drink. The waiting staff were often seen hanging around the kitchen and seemed completely oblivious to their customers.

Review 57:Beautiful hotel in a beautiful setting. On the whole the hotel staff are brilliant and very attentive and helpful. The hotel also serves very enjoyable food.

Review 58:the room was lovely, clean, big and the balcony was nice. the breakfast is really good, a very good choice of food and a nice atmosphere in the dining room.

Review 59:The shower was not up to scratch it was very low pressure and was over the bath for a hotel of this price you would expect a power shower and a separate shower cubical, the spa facilities were too over priced also

Review 60:We liked the views from the balcony and the fact that you could have room service it made the experience that much more luxurious

Review 61:We had issues with the door every day and when we first checked in we were given a room without a bat which we did ask for.

Review 62:The staff and service was excellent at all times

Review 63:Room was hot at night and the shower pressure was not great

Review 64:I booked an executive room overlooking the estuary and was not disappointed by the view. Excellent views of the castle. Good size room with balcony which allowed me to enjoy the sun and view

Review 65:Partner's 60th birthday which I had notified on booking. Nice card and two cupcakes in room on arrival. Good spa after golf at Conwy Golf Club. Room overlooking estuary is worth the extra. Fab views. Love the place. Will recommend and come again!

Review 66:The restaurant service was a bit slow (over 2hrs for a 3 course meal for two people is a bit much) & the puree on my main dish was burnt.

Review 67:A lovely hotel in a beautiful part of the world, we had a lovely room & an enjoyable stay for our wedding anniversary.

Review 68:The bedroom doors are quite noisy and when people are leaving early in the morning disturb people who are still sleeping but this did not spoil the weekend just making you aware

Review 69:Very friendly hotel with excellent facilities

Review 70:Couldn't say a anything bad about this hotel.

Review 71:What an amazing hotel, me, my hubby & two friends had a great weekend in the Quay, friendly staff, good food & fab rooms, excellent beds, we would definitely stay again

Review 72:Breakfast was average and the presentation of available choices was unappealing. Our table also felt sticky and that made me feel uncomfortable.

Review 73:Our room and bathroom was clean and pleasant with a lovely outdoor view of the water featured courtyard. The hotel had a lovely location near the water. Parking was available and close.

Review 74:Pillows a little too soft for us Wifi not very strong signal in room

Review 75:We loved virtually everything about this hotel the small points below are just minor

Review 76:The hot tub could off been warmer and no children in there but wasn't a major

Review 77:Staff were absolutely amazing! The beds were so so comfy! Had the best nights sleep ever! Breakfast was spot on couldnt off asked for anything else! Will be coming back'!!

Review 78:The attitude of the head waiter during our evening meal was challenging, literally. It was as if he wanted me to fall out with him. Refused to repeat the soup of day....accused me of not listening!! If he was trying to be funny he failed. We were a group of 8, 3 standard riims and one executive. Although the executive room was very big, separate lounge, 2 balconies, jacuzzi bath and separate showere I would have preferred more room in the bedroom. This room was big but for some reason the layout only allow for the two single beds to be more or less on top of each other!! Not good.

Review 79:The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The Spa facilities were lovely if a little on the small side.

Review 80:No air conditioning. Had a facial, I have had treatments for over 30 years, but never experienced deep tissue massage for the face!!! Very strong girl

Review 81:Beds are very comfy

Review 82:Poor shower pressure in room 247 on second floors Couldn't look out of bedroom windows whilst seated due to window height ( next door had floor to ceiling patio doors )

Review 83:View from room Live music Great staff

Review 84:The Quay Hotel was a very nice place. Most rooms either overlooked the Marina or the bay with lovely views of Conwy castle and those on the second floor had balconies. The hotel had a very relaxed atmosphere perfect for a chill out weekend. The restaurant was of a very good standard and the spacious bar area opened up to a large patio that overlooked the bay. I would highly recommend the Quay Hotel.

Review 85:Bedroom far too hot, reported to reception who produced a fan ( noisy ). Suspect it's accumulation of heated towel rail and no through draft due to fire doors ? Lucky not a sunny day for our stay !

Review 86:Not bad but two points of note: 1. Bed - mattress was too soft for us 2. Gym was too hot

Review 87:Super location - easy access to both Llandudno and Conwy. Breakfast selection and quality were excellent. All staff very friendly.

Review 88:The fact that I booked a marina view , paid £180 and the room was nice but expected a more for that price nothing special about the room , plus marina view is quite deceiving I thought it would be of the sea also. Booked for spa, a big let down , little room where you can relax so busy, the pool was small and over crowded, and all they had was a bigger jacuzzi with two jets, very poor spa day felt let down

Review 89:The location beautiful, the food , the bed was so comfortable

Review 90:The only downside I would say is our room was on the ground floor next to the car park. Not a lot of privacy if you have the curtains open. But this is only a minor criticism and didn't have any effect on our stay.

Review 91:Excellent hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. Facilities are very good. We enjoyed the pool and steam room. My wife enjoyed a massage as well. Lovely location on the Marina.

Review 92:No air con in bedroom. Restaurant menu not very imaginative, seemed to be a lot of chips on offer

Review 93:Staff friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast beautiful location

Review 94:No problems

Review 95:A fine spacious hotel in a beautiful situation near the mouth of the estuary looking out over the mountains. Superb room quality and excellent food.

Review 96:After the excellent breakfast we had high expectations for the evening meal.. Although the food was acceptable it was rather disappointing

Review 97:Although the hotel was busy the internal layout ensured a peaceful stay in a very comfortable room . All the staff we met were friendly ,helpful and courteous .

Review 98:Paid more for a view, thinking I would get the bay not just a car park for boats! The view from the bar & breakfast room is worth seeing. Also it's not really in Conwy but quite a drive around the bay, not walk into town distance at all.

Review 99:Comfortable room, friendly staff.

Review 100:Although we asked and got a marina view what they don't say is that the car park hides it so our view was the back of a line of cars. The WiFi didn't work in any part of the hotel and we were told that this is a problem for some providers. We didn't appreciate staff arriving for work with their music in their cars on full blast early in the morning, very inconsiderate for those who are trying to have a relaxing well earned lie in. The pool was full of children on both times we tried to use it. The hydro pool wasn't really up to much, not compared with other spa hotels that we have stayed at.

Review 101:The rooms were roomy and well looked after. Clean with an array of tea, coffee and bottled water. The bathrooms were also large with very nice toiletries and bathrobes. The food was delicious with plenty of choice and staff were extremely obliging. Good location if you don't mind a walk into Conwy. We didn't find it a problem but more less abled may find it a struggle.

Review 102:Could do with air conditioning. nights were very warm in the room but comfortable.

Review 103:Friendly service from all the staff. Excellent food served, amazing views and atmosphere. Spa facilities were great. Room was spacious and relaxing.

Review 104:poor view from window onto stairwell roof left me disappointed and no balcony. Sunny day with people opposite sitting outside all afternoon. Phone made peeping noise all night.

Review 105:hotel location and room great.

Review 106:Large pile of empty cardboard boxes in corridor overnight/a fire hazard. Public toilets not checked regularly, bins not emptied etc. very messy. Untrained disorganised staff in some cases. No drinks menu in bar.

Review 107:Great location. Good food. Clean comfortable rooms

Review 108:Having to pay £4 pp for breakfast to be delivered but they delivered a bottle of champagne and poured it in the glasses for us F.O.C

Review 109:The bed was to die for. Did not wanna get out of it! The breakfast was very yummy too.

Review 110:Nothing bad. Everything perfect.

Review 111:Everything!!! Staff were fantastic. Food fantastic. Rooms amazing. Views amazing. We had a complimentary upgrade but all the rooms are amazing. Can't wait to go back.

Review 112:Funnily enough, although the bed was comfortable the pillows were too generous - crick in the neck.

Review 113:I needed no more than a bed for the night and an early breakfast.

Review 114:Rude Deputy manager (John) in restaurant spoiled our dining experience . Overpriced drinks. Bar attracts lots of non residents and was reminiscent of a camp site club house.

Review 115:Great location, good room, great standard of food.

Review 116:We had a suite which was lovely, however, the bathroom completely let it down. Very poorly appointed, shower over the bath ... what is that all about! My bathroom at home is far superior and I would have expected better from a suite room in such a lovely hotel!!!

Review 117:Beautiful location, great facilities. We had a suite which was lovely. Great breakfast and very helpful staff.

Review 118:Excellently positioned hotel with well appointed rooms. Staff very friendly and accommodating - nothing is too much trouble. Superbly positioned dining room offering excellent quality food.

Review 119:Unfortunately, no one can control the British weather. Yes you guessed it, it rained. What didn't I like, very little. Just a couple of petty things. The internet was slow and the TV aerial connection was a bit dodgy.

Review 120:Brilliant hotel. Comfy bed, clean room. Polite staff and well organised receptionist. Good breakfast. Central location good for seeing surrounding area. A return visit is planned already.

Review 121:i) very scratchy flannel and pretty rough towels too 2) battery failure on the rowing machines and one of them was a bit scuzzy. 3) no weights under 4kg in the gym. If you're are in injury recovery this can be a problem

Review 122:Lovely room with great view, gym and spa facilities, good food.

Review 123:Bar service was extremely slow. Lack of co-ordination. Felt this was due to lack of management and understaffing.

Review 124:Despite bar service, all staff were very friendly and overall a very enjoyable stay.

Review 125:The weather!!! Such a pity we couldn't take in the lovely views more.

Review 126:Beautiful location, room was lovely with everything we needed for an overnight stay. We had room service which was delicious and arrived quickly. The beds were very comfortable and the room very clean. It was a pity we couldn't have stayed longer, would definitely recommend.

Review 127:The suite, whilst spacious could do with some modernisation. The staff we so friendly and accommodating, but were at time a little over zealous during dinner service!

Review 128:The view, the food (amazing), and the space in the suite.

Review 129:Rooms are always so hot. Noticed a few people sleeping with patio doors open. We were on the ground floor but we had't to open our patio door in the end. Bathroom floors look lovely but can be slippy.

Review 130:The hotel itself, views, breakfast. Concierge very friendly and helpful.

Review 131:Bathroom drains & towel rack didn't work. Dinner not good for $$, food fair at best. Tv box didn't work, had to have technician twice.

Review 132:Location, staff, convenient parking, had a lift for luggage.

Review 133:The rooms are way to warm, as there is no air con, and the windows could only open slightly. With outdoor temperature of not more than 20 degree, this is too bad

Review 134:Requested a wake up call at 7.45am on Sunday 19th July, received a belated wake up call at 8.20am, we then had to rush through breakfast to meet our appointment, you expect a hotel to be able to provide this type of request on time!

Review 135:Friendly staff.

Review 136:My only criticism is that if you sit outside in the bar/restaurant the service can be very slow..

Review 137:All round a perfect place to stay if you want to chill and relax.. Views of surrounding areas stunning especially at sunset...

Review 138:Brilliant hotel, made even better by such lovely, polite and efficient staff. Can't wait to return, and will recommend to family and friends
