Reviews for The Imperial Hotel
Review 1:The decor is not in keeping with the building, very tasteless interior. The room was very hot and extremely noisy through out the evening. The breakfast was poor and neither the room nor the breakfast warranted the price.
Review 2:The staff were lovely, the room and particularly the bathroom were very clean and well equipped. The building has the potential to be quite grand.
Review 3:Male cleaner came into my room, unannounced, whilst my door was on the latch, half hour before I checked out at 11am. -- carpet big stain on it.
Review 4:Smiley staff. Nice cooked breakfast. Comfortable bed.
Review 5:Some of the beds (we were three of us) didn't have a that good mattress. This could be improved.
Review 6:Lovely people, nice breakfast, clean rooms, nothing fancy, but everything you need is there.
Review 7:Just a bit "tired ." in decor in places.Although the hotel does offer good value.
Review 8:CENTRAL. GOOD VALUE.HAPPY STAFF.QUIET ALTHOUGH IN CENTRE OF TOWN.
Review 9:Excellent breakfast, friendly staff. Good sized rooms refurbished not long ago and very clean. very comfy beds. Hotel right next to the station in the centre of town. Free parking was extremely useful.
Review 10:Bit dated, no choice of teas at breakfast and it was already made in a thermos on the buffet table, noisy at night and downstairs door left open and no staff on site, you do get a security fob on your key to get to bedrooms but didn't feel very safe and secure.
Review 11:Cooked breakfast was nice, staff very friendly and just across the road from the train station. Room was clean.
Review 12:Couldn't find entrance door , no guidance to where you had to go . Room 2 flights up no lift steep stairs for carrying luggage . Room view poor . Hotel situation rather dark and un appealling
Review 13:Morning staff very good breakfast very good room clean and comfy
Review 14:Hot water was not working. No hot shower in the morning. Salsa night under the room. Very noisy until 10pm
Review 15:Clean, very friendly staff, good location.
Review 16:Hotel not staffed at night; incorrect information given to me on arrival concerning breakfast the next day; no safe place to leave key if staff not present when leaving early. Shame: change it back from a rooming house to a hotel - or drop the name hotel altogether.
Review 17:decent size room, comfy bed, clean linen.
Review 18:No bad experience
Review 19:The hotel has over recent years been transformed and attractively decorated throughout. The management and staff are welcoming courteous and a pleasure to meet.
Review 20:The room was a bit and dated and was noisy for a short period early on Sunday morning as the taxi rank was below our room. The hotel car park has limited space.
Review 21:The host welcomed us and was friendly and helpful throughout our stay. There was a good choice of food for breakfast and the cooked breakfast was well prepared. We also had an enjoyable meal in the hotel's Thai Restaurant.
Review 22:It wasn't a bad experience poor value for the money. It all seemed a bit tired.
Review 23:comfortable bed and clean towels a generator or fan was humming throughout the night and the toilet had water trickling through constant ly. No saucers with the coffee or side plates at breakfast.
Review 24:OK but I would like more attention to detail (eg there was no rubbish bin in the room, herbal tea bags, only one
Review 25:very pretty, great location by station. Nice breakfast.
Review 26:Its a very old hotel and so floors creak, corridors are winding, plumbing interesting, but its all made up for by the sheer helpfulness and friendliness of the staff.
Review 27:Wonderful staff - they helped at every turn, and food was great, and its twenty paces to the station and right in the town. I felt like I belonged and was welcome in a way few places manage, and that was down to the nice people who worked there.
Review 28:Very noisy until midnight. Had to renew parking at five past midnight. Reception end of a busy bar and function guests spelling into bar and on stairs to bedrooms
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:Would have like lunchtime menu available on evening not just thia restaurant.
Review 31:Staff really helpful. Lunch excellent value & good selection. Room very clean & looked very nice. Breakfast excellent. Brilliant location right in centre of town.
Review 32:Not a bad experience, but only one teabag. Lucky I was the only one in the room.
Review 33:Lovely old building. Nice warm feeling in the bedroom, Clean bathroom. Clean bedroom. Very pleasant staff.
Review 34:BEWARE of parking. Very few hotel spaces resulting in having to use station car park, ticket £1.70 per day expiring at midnight making it difficult . Charges apply 24hrs/7 days and wardens have been known to check early.
Review 35:Clean hotel, good room and helpful staff
Review 36:Only a couple of comments - two of the complimentary milks were already used and had not been replaced and the loo was incredibly difficult to flush.
Review 37:Location really good, parking good also. Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Review 38:The hotel was clean and tidy and staff very helpful and friendly. The beds were comfortable and en suite bath and shower room capacious and smart. Excellent location especially if travelling by train.
Review 39:There are no staff on duty between 2300 and 0700 (mobile phone number given) which is a concern in view of the fact that the rear door lock has been physically re- positioned, which means the door is open 24 hours. The access to the guest rooms on the first floor is via adjacent doors, one of which is not locked. At 2300hrs the ground floor toilets and bar doors are locked to prevent non guests wandering into the hotel! The B&B rate charged was £89 which included 'English Breakfast', however, the meal was below average.
Review 40:Room fine
Review 41:The Wi-fi was very erratic; though provided with the pass-code, we were unable to log on to our tablets there. This is literally the only slight complaint. Generally a big 'thumbs up' to the Imperial.
Review 42:Staff excellent, breakfast great, and we also ate in the restaurant on the night of our arrival. The Thai dishes were superb. Would definitely go again. Also - the bar area is lovely, very atmospheric, and had the most beautiful collection of orchids in the windows.
Review 43:Must install double glazing of some sort far to noisy to sleep.Should have dining area other than eating breakfast in bar.
Review 44:Close to town centre and station.
Review 45:Climb up two flights of stairs to room. Not suitable for anyone with ailments.
Review 46:The attitude & friendliness of staff. Very helpful & smiley. Food very good. Evening meal and the breakfast
Review 47:Unfortunately there was a nightclub located directly outside the hotel, our family room was opposite it. The music lights and noise of taxis and people went on until at least 4am in the morning. Not the hotels fault I know, but caused a night of bad sleep for the whole family. The price of the hotel should have been cheaper to reflect this.
Review 48:Nice room, friendly staff. Food ok.
Review 49:Very noisy location, drunk people shouting and slamming doors at 4am. Drunk people sleeping in the hallway outside our room! Kebab fast food spilt over the stairs by aforementioned drunk people.
Review 50:Food was good
Review 51:The car parking is a first come first serve basis and outside the hotel - but is limited and you could be blocked in if someone decides to park inconsiderately. There is a car park a few hundred metres up the road if needed.
Review 52:The location was ideal for what we needed and if you are travelling by train (we weren't) it's opposite the station. Staff friendly and helpful good breakfast.
Review 53:As a single female travelling by train to Stroud for a family gathering, this hotel was ideally placed, and I felt totally safe by myself. Breakfast was excellent and well presented.
Review 54:Can't think of anything; I would definitely stay here again!
Review 55:Friendly and helpful staff; comfortable bed; excellent restaurant and breakfast; convenient location; overall cleanliness;
Review 56:For the price I paid, it was not great value. The bed was comfortable, but creaking. The room was positioned over the function room, where there was a dancing class going on until nearly 11 PM. The "free wifi" was not in the rooms - only in the bar.
Review 57:Really well located for travelling by train, which is why I chose it.
Review 58:No complaints.
Review 59:Large, clean, comfortable room with en suite bathroom. Four poster bed! Very pleased with room and amenities.Fantastic location if using train. We will definitely use this hotel on our future visits to Stroud.
Review 60:The shower was a bit disappointing - hot, but a very small shower head and quite a weak stream. That's really my only criticism - the hotel was better than I expected for the price.
Review 61:The hotel is fairly basic but it's in a good location in the centre of Stroud, right next to the train station and it was comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful and my room (although basic) was perfectly fine for my one night in Stroud.
Review 62:The pub, Lord John, has an outdoor beer garden which kept us awake until it closed at midnight. Second night it was quieter there. Also, the building has plants growing on the walls so we couldn't keep our windows open because of the bees.
Review 63:Great location to town and restaurants. A quick walk to train, but no noise from train. Very helpful staff who want to make your stay the best.
Review 64:Nowt to dislike!
Review 65:The welcome was very friendly, the room was spacious and comfortable, the restaurant produced excellent Thai food, there was a choice of real ales on the bar and the hotel was handy for walking-country and VERY handy for the railway-station and the town-centre.
Review 66:Nothing wrong with it from our stay.
Review 67:Right in the town centre, literally next to the train station. Staff were all friendly and room was comfortable, excellent shower.
Review 68:Family room was at the front of the hotel right above a busy taxi rank that kept our children and U.S. Awake until about 3am! Restaurant was ok
Review 69:Beautiful hotel, friendly helpful staff for the most part and comfortable room apart from the noise from the taxi rank and drunks outside
Review 70:Tired hotel. Bedroom furniture to me back the the era of "cheap pine everything". Bed was quite uncomfortable. I've stayed at better places for less money.
Review 71:Breakfast was cooked really well
Review 72:There seemed to be no overnight staff present, safety aspects usually require atleast a security presence overnight, and more free parking or perhaps money refunded when forced to park in the railway carpark maybe an ideal solution.
Review 73:There were 3 of us travelling friends so it was lovely to all be able to sleep together in one room, facilities clean, ideal for a stopover. Breakfast too was well cooked and quickly served. Good value for money overall.
Review 74:Thai food served in evening, with large choice of dishes. Our room was pleasant and quiet, despite the hotel being in the centre of Stroud, almost opposite the railway station.
Review 75:Its one of those typically English institutions where the heating is ramped up so high that you can barely breathe and yet the shower is only so-so. The free wifi didn't work on the second floor rooms and the onsite restaurant wasn't open on the Sunday that I stayed. The half full discarded glass of coke left on the windowsill of the permanently sealed open window that was there when I checked in was still there when I checked out. There was a tv but it was not much bigger than my phone, which mirrored the bed in which both my head and toes touched the ends of at the same time... The proximity to the station is great as you get to listen to the drunk people arguing and fighting through the single glazed windows at the end of a night...
Review 76:The single member of staff that I met was a friendly enough chap. The place was clean and warm. The bathroom was quite spacious and the price was reasonable.
Review 77:Staff are friendly and accommodating, it has an excellent Thai Restaurant and serves a good breakfast in a polite and efficient way. Rooms are spacious and clean. A little dated but definitely good value for money
Review 78:Staff had poor understanding of the English language which made ordering food/drink difficult. No wifi in rooms. TV cannot be seen from bed.
Review 79:Food and drink. Location
Review 80:In-laws had to change rooms due to terrible mattress and loud noise from neighbourhood bar. Family room ok, but beyond reliable wireless.
Review 81:Fairly helpful staff, full English breakfast.
Review 82:No place to put your stuff anywhere in the bathroom. Very noisy location overnight: taxis picking up and dropping off people late into the night and there is also a nearby club emitting a steady flow of drunken folks well after midnight. Free parking promised was limited and the parking at the nearby station is not so free when they are full up. Breakfast started at 8am and they ran out of pasties by 810am. When we asked them if there are going to be more brought out soon, we were informed that it takes a long time to prepare them. Toilet flush needed quite a bit of practice to master and even then could only be operated with varying degrees of success.
Review 83:We had a spacious room and the hotel is close to local amenities. English breakfast was ok.
Review 84:The free parking didn't exist. We had to park in the station car park & pay. Worse - we had to get up at midnight and repay!!! The one member of staff had no English and just smiled and shrugged a lot. No where to eat and squeaky beds & wonky headboards which banged against the wall when anyone moved! We opted to stay overnight to avoid the stress of late night travel but having to get up at midnight to feed the meter was not part of the plan! Sorry but not impressed.
Review 85:Staff were pleasant even if they struggled with the language! Breakfast was lovely.
Review 86:The small bed. Small teacups in room. Mat in bath needs to be better quality as "suckers" didn't stick and I slipped and fell in bath whilst taking a shower. Did not report this to staff, but should have done.
Review 87:The friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.
Review 88:Bed was broken and very creaky, we complained and asked for as other room but the hotel manager was not at the hotel so the staff member who dealt with us could not do a lot until he spoke to the manager. In the end we asked for a refund and drove to Cirencester (a much nicer place).
Review 89:Good location by the station
Review 90:we were told the parking will be freed up after the niteclub nexdoor closes. we can park near the station till sunday 10.00 am. result ? a parking ticket and 100 £ fine parking warden came at 6.27 am to fine all cars parked there. the hotel should leave the guests use the parking lot and keep the nite-club patrons out !!
Review 91:There was a lot of noise outside caused by a group of youngsters talking loudly and messing about.. This went on until 4 am and possibly later.
Review 92:The staff were friendly and helpful
Review 93:Parking! There was no space in the hotel carpark and so we had to park in the station carpark which said the ticket required a new one at midnight! We went out early in the morning to put a new ticket on......later there were parking tickets issues on other cars (on a Sunday!). Hotel should have some arrangement with carpark to issue permits for guests staying in the hotel as who on earth would go out at midnight!
Review 94:Hotel key was lost during the evening when returning to the hotel there is no reception on a evening so spent the night sat outside my hotel room until the cleaner arrived at 7am, shambles
Review 95:Trouble flushing the toilet, poor syphoning.
Review 96:Location in centre of town. Large bar and restaurant. Helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable and newly decorated bedroom and on-suite.
Review 97:The orange wall, outdated cheap room. I expect something a bit more modern for the price, the bed was uncomfortable and hurt my back, and the window didn't stay open. The night was worth £25 not £89
Review 98:The bathroom was up to date, clean and plenty of fresh towels.
Review 99:There was nothing to dislike about this hotel and I would definately stay here again.
Review 100:The hotel was close to the railway station and centrally located for the shops, theatre and restaurants, we stayed a Friday night and it was pleasantly quiet, the room was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable and a good choice of breakfast which was excellent, the staff were very pleasant.
Review 101:At a family gathering we were told that the bar would be open until 11.00pm. We returned to the hotel at 10.35 only to find the bar claws and locked!
Review 102:Convenient
Review 103:Floor very squecky. Carpets needed serious upgrade. No double glazing so noisy in the morning from trucks delivering/collecting goods. Stroud town center most uninspiring. Decor very mismatched and not true to the ethos of the hotel
Review 104:Big bed and large bathroom
Review 105:Rather hot in room at night
Review 106:Superb location right by station and shops but not noisy. Friendly staff, basic room, basic breakfast - at £69 for the room we got what we paid for. Sorrento's restaurant nearby highly recommended.
Review 107:No staff on call. Somebody got in to the supposed secure accommodation area on last night at 2 am and was knocking on doors. Will not be staying again
Review 108:Easy access to where I had to ne
Review 109:A more obvious main entrance and reception area would give a better first impression - and the lack of a lift might prove a problem for an elderly or disabled guest.
Review 110:Lovely room, friendly staff, breakfast cooked to order. This was perfect for me - no unnecessary fuss and frills, just somewhere very convenient, comfortable and clean. My room was warm, bright and cheerful and a pleasure to come back to.
Review 111:Hotel was a little tired, not well maintained and dirty in places - we had a missing bulb in the lamp (not broken, but missing) which the helpful staff replaced with one from another room - it appears updating is in progress as the bathroom is relatively "new" and good however the rooms and passageways unfortuntately are a little tired. Although a double occupancy only towels for one were provided. The car park is a little on the small side - however we did obtain a space when needed - but it is not guaranteed there will be room as there are a lot less spaces than the hotel has rooms.
Review 112:Great location and very helpful staff with a good breakfast. Availability of car parking.
Review 113:Convenience of the location for the train, walking around the town and especially the canal. Friendly, efficient staff and great Thai cuisine. Good breakfast selection.
Review 114:parking is limited and you could end up paying to park by the railway station. Food - evening meal was not of a standard I would have expected, it was Thai but bore little taste or resemblance to Thai food; breakfast was perfect. Room was small, no central heating but provision of a small portable heater resolved problem of cold. Furnishings were 1970's style.
Review 115:loverly old building of character. Staff were welcoming and friendly.
Review 116:-Toilet didn't flush well -Single pane windows and no room temperature control -No deadbolt and peephole on the door, so not secure -breakfast attendant was rude
Review 117:-Location right by the train station -Free morning breakfast
Review 118:The disposition of the staff, always willing to make your experience superb: not strict with lunch hours, so you can have a late lunch, flexible with the room we were assigned, so we could choose the one that we like most; personal, as the owner came to welcome us; everything was friendly and welcoming.
Review 119:Lighting poor in room. Furniture rather dated. I brought my own hair dryer but I don't recall seeing one in room (as specified on booking). Service in restaurant was little in adequate.waiting staff not very attentive.
Review 120:Easy to use shower . Room warm. Fan heater provided for extra warmth. Good selection of tea ,coffee and sugars. ( although more milk needed and no biscuits!) breakfast good. With good selection. Thai restaurant dishes very good.
Review 121:Nothing. For 'value for money' all was excellent.
Review 122:We like to stay in traditional well-established inns, but at the same time enjoy modern facilities. The Imperial provided just those qualities.
Review 123:The night revellers leaving from a nearby pub were noisy, but this is beyond the Hotel 's control.
Review 124:The location was excellent for us. The room was comfortable, clean and well equipped. The food was well prepared, hot and served by helpful staff. The breakfast selection was excellent with a good selection of cereals and other breakfast items. The staff were extremely helpful and we felt well cared for. The parking facilities were good and oversighted by security camera's. We were satisfied with our stay
Review 125:I found the breakfast area rather chilly until I spotted a plugged-in electric heater and sat near it. So... no complaints !!
Review 126:Friendly and helpful welcome. Quiet and impeccably comfortable room.
Review 127:The hotel has no lift but the stairs are wide and the staff gave us every assistance with our luggage.
Review 128:The location is excellent and this is matched by friendly, efficient staff. Very good value
Review 129:Travelling and keeping hectic hours always means that I will eat when I get hungry and when I can. Not here though, at 21:15 I asked if they could make me two cheese and pickle sandwiches to wrap up and take to my room. No, queried, No, asked why I was told that they only serve Thai food as the restaurant is Thai. I asked if they catered for residents needs other than Thai and I was told no. I asked if they minded if I brought stinking chicken to my room and they said no feel free so I did. I hate getting a room where someone has had chicken as a takeaway the night before as it stinks but it was all that was available so for this the hotel gets a LOW rating from me. I have many many nights away in a year and this is the first time one of my reviews has been negative....Sorry.....all true!!!!
Review 130:Location and style of hotel and it is in the town centre
Review 131:Decor could do with a freshen up
Review 132:Location from station, coffee making facilities, helpful staff, breakfast until 10am, value for money, clean rooms if a little dated.
Review 133:Could do with a bit of modernisation, however not too bad, has character.
Review 134:Perfect location for access to centre of town and rail station.Good quality full English breakfast.
Review 135:Poor quality bed Room very hot because we could get the window to stay open Shower very poor
Review 136:Good Breakfast Pleasant room and bathroom Good location
Review 137:the yale lock on the door would not open to get out of the room, so we had to use a credit card to throw the bolt to get out. The bar didn't stay open for guests as you would expect in a hotel, so we had to by two rounds and take them to our room
Review 138:It was within walking distance of where we needed to be. We had a very good sleep. Good parking for such a central location. Good breakfast
Review 139:Poor breakfast; individual cooked breakfasts fine but otherwise the provision was poor, no bread and very poor quality tea and coffee put out in large urns. The landing carpets were dirty, there was a loose banister and our toilet required a special technique to flush. The double bed in the family room had a very worn mattress with uncomfortable springs. Overall there were signs of poor maintenance. One evening the door to the upstairs rooms (accessible from the street via a side entrance) was left propped open with a fire extinguisher. It should have been kept locked at all times. In addition it meant that the fire extinguisher was not where it might be needed on the inside of the hotel. In the end I shut the door and moved it back into position for the night! What a shame because this hotel has a lot of potential.
Review 140:Good location. The staff at the bar (which also seemed to be reception) were friendly and did their best to help when asked.
The Fine Print
Please note that parking spaces are limited and are on a first-come, first-served basis.Kindly note the restaurant is closed on Mondays for lunch and dinner.
