Reviews for The Groes Inn

Review 1:breakfast needs improvement. The accommodation was at the top end budget for bed and breakfast. The breakfast choice is limited on cereals. Also, we had smoked salmon and eggs, overcooked and too much smoked salmon.

Review 2:room was very comfortable and clean. great view from bedroom

Review 3:There is not much around, but it is a nice quiet place and close enough to explore Conwy.

Review 4:Clean, comfortable room and a wonderful restaurant. It is not a cheep place but It is worth the stay. Great friendly staff.

Review 5:Room 10, when in the shower the water spilled out onto the floor no matter how careful you were with the inside shower curtain in the bath. Silicone needs redoing. Didn't like the bidet

Review 6:Huge bed, glorious room with view. Fantastic food, (we dined both evenings of our stay). The wonderful atmospheric bar and dining area

Review 7:MY 16 year old grandson was not enamoured with with WiFi which seeming kept coming and going especially in the evening. I was a little hot with the duvet on the bed but a word to reception and it was rectified with a cooler sheet.

Review 8:The family room and beds were all good and comfortable and the bathroom was an 'all-white palace' with some nice toiletries about. View from the bedroom was superb, in general the Hotel is situated a little away from anywhere so having a car was important - unless you are a hiker! Be great for a 'get away from it all' or romantic honeymoon.

Review 9:The rooms have none of the charm of the inn - they're in a purpose built modern lodge, and for £150/night we expected a little more grandieur. It was very basic. Also the service in the restaurant was terrible. This is advertised as Pub of the Year 2014 and we couldn't get service at the bar, and we were ignored as we waited for a table, despite already having a booking. It was the first night we'd spent in Wales so we thought perhaps the chaotic style was typical of Wales(?) but having visited other places since, we know that not to be true. There is no family-run-inn type feeling here - the staff deliver an average service, at best, and the chefs are the ones pulling it out the bag. Given that we spent £70 on dinner for 2 in a little local pub, I don't feel that the service stood up to the quality of the food, and for that reason don't feel it was brilliant value for money. Additionally the receptionist had no local knowledge and did not even attempt to recommend any great places to go. For a tourist hot spot I found this surprising.

Review 10:Very striking original building with beautiful view of fields and mountains to the rear. Inn has retained all its period charm, and the food is very good (highly recommend the seafood chowder, which was exceptional). Rooms clean, TV with freeview channels, super comfy bed with view out of balcony, and some complimentary lotions/potions too which were a nice touch.

Review 11:The Wi Fi was hit and miss, I guess that was due to location.

Review 12:The location was excellent for visiting Conwy and plenty of things to do nearby. The inn was lovely with very friendly staff and our little dog was made very welcome!

Review 13:The staff were very busy at breakfast, maybe if the juices and cereal could be a buffet style, it would take the pressure off the staff , and able staff to serve customers promptly.

Review 14:The size of the room with a lovely view of the countryside. The evening meal was amazing I had the curry , and the barbarith pudding to finish.

Review 15:Wifi very slow. Check in also slow due to the lady having to be in two places at once, namely bar and reception.

Review 16:Excellent dinner. Very comfortable bedroom.

Review 17:It would have been nice at breakfast to be able to choose cold items from a buffet rather than ordering from the menu. Breakfast was fine but not wonderful, which is what we would expect for over £160 a night.

Review 18:The hotel is in a beautiful location. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, without exception they made us feel very welcome. The food at dinner was wonderful!

Review 19:The service in the restaurant evening and morning was very poor. I asked for my lamb to be pink but it wasn't but I couldn't attract anyone's attention to ask for a replacement. Once we'd ordered we seemed to be invisible. The bedroom was fine but the overall facilities didn't merit the AA 3 stars or the price charged. The wifi connection was very poor too and unfortunately the two rooms below us were occupied by smokers so I couldn't open the windows (I'm asthmatic).

Review 20:The view from the bedroom was fantastic.

Review 21:We had an overnight stay at the Groes Inn. The location was great, only a stones throw away from Conwy and surrounded by beautiful countryside. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable with a fantastic view over fields and hills. We ate in the restaurant and enjoyed the food very much, the service from the staff was exemplary. All round it was a lovely relaxing break and a great place to stay.

Review 22:Another guest ale would have been the icing on the cake ... although there are two rather tasty Groes ales and plenty of bottled beers and lagers .... another guest ale would have added that little something special; not to have it did not detract in anyway however!! :-)

Review 23:The staff were all friendly without exception ... felt guilty leaving a tip just for our waitress when the barman and the receptionist and ... When we checked out we were allowed to sit in their dining/conservatory area, enjoy a coffee, and catch up on admin/email before we finally departed. The evening meal was rather excellent served in a convivial and relaxed atmosphere.

Review 24:Nothing to dislike

Review 25:Beautiful old building. Huge room, huge bed, good wifi signal in the room. great food at the pub. dog friendly with little bowls for the dogs in the room which was a nice little touch

Review 26:Facilities are not as per booking.com list. Initial room had dampness, stained carpet and dirty windows.

Review 27:Staff very helpful, location fantastic and meals exceptional.

Review 28:Warm welcome, lovely lunch and later, fantastic evening meal. We booked two rooms, one with balcony looking onto the foothills of Snowdonia, stunning. The other was nice but lacked the view and charm of the first, so nice, but not stunning.

Review 29:Crack in my sink and in a couple of floor tiles in my bathroom.

Review 30:Spacious, comfortable & attractive rooms. Helpful and friendly staff. Tasty and plentiful breakfast. Stunning location.

Review 31:A bit noisy - woken by people above walking around during the night and early in morning, and the noise from plumbing pipes seemed quite loud. The room was very small, but appreciated you squeezing a king size in there as a good night sleep was more important to us than spare floor room.

Review 32:Restaurant (dinner and breakfast both good), ambiance good, bed comfy.

Review 33:Staff most helpful, view superb, and to have a small private garden wonderful. Route details for a very pleasant walk made a lovely change from a long motorway journey.

Review 34:great to find such a comfortable room with a modern bathroom in a historic inn. The catering was of a very high standard, and there's a good selection of real ales.

Review 35:Service at breakfast was a bit slow and chaotic.

Review 36:The location and views was stunning. Great atmosphere and service in the pub. Breakfast was very good.

Review 37:Everything was fabulous. Very welcoming and friendly staff. Lovely comfortable bedroom with all facilities and even a patio with fantastic views. The bar area was so cosy with a welcoming fire and the food was great.

Review 38:NOTHING!

Review 39:The lovely bedroom with a massive comfy bed, plenty of in- room drinks, the fab views from the window, large bathroom with gorgeous toiletries, the food in the Inn ( esp the breakfast and the cheerful waitress), in fact everything!

Review 40:The road just at the door, literally. Not much choice to eat around except for the hotel's pub.

Review 41:It had everything you really need, and very very kind staff.

Review 42:The Hotel is small with 5 star attractions, very well appointed bed rooms, very attentive staff, well prepared food using good local products, breath taking views.

Review 43:We don't feel that this hotel is five star although they charge five star prices. We would go again but the rate would have to be more reasonable.

Review 44:The bedroom was large and comfortable but the furniture was falling apart. The food was very good, especially breakfast which was hot and freshly cooked.

Review 45:Could only stay for one (1) night due to my business needs.

Review 46:The location, just outside of Conway, North Wales, was stunning. A real ale pub with a luxury accommodation facility is quite rare these days.

Review 47:The only thing possibly because of the hills & Snowdonia was the TV signal which was somewhat erratic!

Review 48:The Groes Inn is a Country Inn with lovely spacious bedrooms, great food & service with very friendly and efficient staff and if you have a well behaved dog very welcoming even in the restaurant. It is also extremely good value for money. Will we go back...most definitely, will we recommend it to friends...most definitely. What a find!

Review 49:Although the location is lovely, the Inn sits right next to a rather busy road.

Review 50:Very friendly and helpful staff, lovely. Dogs are welcome and can join you for breakfast and dinner, in the dog corner that comes with bowl of water, dog cookies and dog bed ! Spacious room with huge bed. Lovely view of fields with sheep and the foot of Snowdonia. Loads of charm.

Review 51:The internet didn't work, but really it was a blessing to be rid of it for a while.

Review 52:Just delightful. In every way, from the location, to the room, to the breakfast, to the flowers, to the magnificent vine in the conservatory, to the views, to the warmth of the staff. From the first moment we felt that the place put its arms around us.

Review 53:No iron in room so had to go to dinner with with creases in my shirt and my polo shirt next day was creased too.

Review 54:Location was spectacular. Food was first class. Room and facilities were very comfortable. Staff were very friendly
