Reviews for The Old Mill House
Review 1:The charming rooms with beautiful views into the garden below. All the little extras in the room made it special. Excellent breakfast. Would stay here again if we're ever in England again.
Review 2:Debbie, the owner was very welcoming. I liked the convenience of the location, a small car park just across the road with a 50p contribution to village hall funds. The Old Mill had a friendly atmosphere, excellent breakfast and clean, warm room which they've clearly decorated since buying it 18 months ago
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:Location is very good for Padstow area. Accommodation is superb, traditional Cornish building with modern comforts. Bistro has excellent food & the staffs attention to detail was outstanding, don't hesitate to book this venue, just do it.
Review 5:Really liked the friendliness and helpful attitude of Debbie & Ashley and the rest of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was very good and the rooms comfortable and well appointed.
Review 6:It was a shame there were no bedside tables in our room (only shelvesabove the bed), but this is a personal preference and I do realise thatthe space had to be utilised for the en-suite. Will book a differentroom in future.
Review 7:Loved everything about our stay. The friendliness of all staff wasreally appreciated - as was the offer of fresh milk (rather than uht).It was a shame we weren't able to stay another night and book intothe Bistro for a meal as the food looked fantastic. We asked to see thegarden in the daylight and the owners were only too willing to show usaround and put the water mill into operation for us.
Review 8:Getting to and from Padstow by taxi was a little expensive (£9 going into town, but £14 for the return later).
Review 9:This lovely property has the perfect garden with views down a beautiful stream.
Review 10:It was like going to stay with Family, Debbie and Ashley were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble, the setting was fantastic the Old Mill is quite old and very tastefully decorated throughout so very peaceful the best bed I have ever slept in and I have stayed in 4 star hotels all over the country but this one will take some beating !!!! The food in the Bistro was amazing, Adrian is a very taleneted chef also the breakfast WOW!!!!! what can i say fab try the eggs benedict I am already planning my next visit.
Review 11:What a lovely little place this was to stay. Beautifully restored; fabulous restaurant (book if you want to dine in, as the locals will book it out, it's that good!). Owners were friendly and even went out of their way to accommodate my gluten free dietary requirements. Must also make mention of Boomer, the resident Labrador. What a lovely old sweetie he is. Really loved our stay here; great room, super-comfortable bed.
Review 12:A beautiful home in a picturesque village. Hosts were very friendly including the lovely Boomer. The room was comfortable clean and smelled of beautiful roses. Breakfast was generous and great variety. Very close to Padstow and the camel trail.
Review 13:having to leave/////////-
Review 14:The Welcome you get, little personal touches. The Breakfest and choice , is something not to be missed. The bistro is first class, well up with the best.
Review 15:Tastefully decorated very old grist mill. 2.7miles from Padstowe. Spotless with personal service. Character, charm, history, beauty & good food to boot.
Review 16:Afternoon tea didnt have much choice really only cream tea would have liked choice of sandwiches and homemade cake as well
Review 17:Lovely staff nothing too much trouble, clean comfortable room, excellent bistro, great breakfast, good location ,
Review 18:Nothing to dislike.
Review 19:Wonderful, spacious & beautifully decorated room with little touches a lot of other places haven't even thought of. Very comfortable bed, great atmosphere, good location & outstanding service at breakfast.
Review 20:Just how friendly the owners were, you felt like you were old friends popping in for the weekend. The food was excellent and the sherry in the room was a welcomed surprise.
Review 21:Before and after we received news of our son in WA being critically ill requiring cancellation of our travel plans and a return home ASAP the accommodation, food and particularly the staff was extraordinarily good. The help given to us when we received the bad news was far beyond the call of duty and made us feel as if we were family.
Review 22:Everything about this place is fantastic. It's beautiful building set in an idyllic location has is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The food is exceptional and hosts are very helpful and friendly. You won't stay at a better place than this.
Review 23:Very hot in bedroom, as noise from traffic prevents opening windows, suggest a much lighter duvet, or thin cover. Music was terrible, we never want to here dancing cheek to cheek again, especially first thing in the morning.!!
Review 24:Lovely character Inn.
Review 25:The Old Mill House, what a gem we found. Perfect hosts and hostess, they couldn't have been more friendly or accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable, we were offered fresh milk for tea and coffee and even a small decanter of sherry was waiting in the room. The food was excellent and we would highly recommend booking a table for an evening meal in the bistro.
Review 26:Couldn't get wifi
Review 27:Everything, the old mill is a lovely quaint place. The inside and the gardens is beautiful. The family run business is very friendly and welcoming, it was like home from home. Great food and breakfast. And a lovely old dog called Boomer!
Review 28:we only stayed one night after a week long stay in a cottage. The owners and staff were so helpful and pleasant. The whole ambience of the Old Mill House is perfect, the garden playing no small part.We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was excellent. I hope to return.
Review 29:Everyone is really friendly, the walk to Padstow through the countryside footpath is a must, only takes an hour and is beautiful and quiet, especailly compared to the hectic buzz of Padstow in the summer season! Restaurant is fantastic, with food and service far better then the place we were recommended to eat in Padstow the previous night. Would definitely come back to stay with Debbie and her family again. Thank you to you all!
Review 30:Located on a narrow, country road with quite a bit of traffic to and from Padstow. Some nighttime traffic noise, but not bad
Review 31:Loved it. Beautiful, private and friendly
Review 32:We didn't know we had to book in advance to eat in the restaurant and it was closed the next day but that wasn't a disaster, just slightly inconvenient. There was some traffic on the road outside but not too bad.
Review 33:A beautiful house and grounds and wonderful hosts. There was sherry in the rooms on arrival which were well equiped and clean. You need a car to get anywhere but that is the price one pays for staying in a rural location. Breakfast was excellent which hints at why their restaurant gets booked up so quickly!
Review 34:Arrived on the current hosts first anniversary of management and could not have felt more welcome. We loved everything about our stay here. Charming hosts,a lovely, comfortable room in a fantastic setting. They also have a bistro and the food was superb.
Review 35:Building and location unique. Being able to choose your style of bedroom. High standards being maintained. Breakfast and Bistro meal excellent. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 36:Small negative, we should have been told prior to arrival that Bistro closed on Monday evenings.
Review 37:The room, gardens, breakfast were all perfect and owner's very friendly and obliging.
Review 38:Traffic noise early morning , parking having to feed the parking meter everyday ! Possibly would be better to pay a one off fee for weekly parking !
Review 39:Friendly staff &Dog
Review 40:Nothing!
Review 41:Everything! Food was lovely-breakfast very good-freshly cooked and lots to eat! We had one evening meal here and it was wonderful, better than what we had eaten in Padstow! The setting of the place was very pretty by a stream-very tranquil and relaxing. The only downfall was a bit far from Padstow to have a drink and walk back-had to get taxis which were not cheap! Owners very welcoming-lovely to have a drink in the garden in the evening!
Review 42:The whole experience at The Old Mill House was excellent.
Review 43:The attention to detail by the owners shows in the property inside and out. The rooms, service and food are all excellent. I can't rate this hotel high enough.
Review 44:Wifi intermittent in bedroom
Review 45:Location, old characterful building, friendly personnel, good breakfast and dinner, lovely sheltered garden for evening drinks. Central location for exploring the Cornish north coast
Review 46:Wifi difficult due to location of property in a valley, not a bad thing if you need to escape!
Review 47:Great location, comfortable room, quiet retreat, friendly staff, good food.
Review 48:Nothing to complain about.
Review 49:The family are very friendly and keen to help make the stay enjoyable. The terrace is great to sit out on and watch the stream and the wildlife.
Review 50:Energy saving light bulbs are fine but it would be nice if they got bright enough to read by. All other B&Bs we have stayed at recently have had the same problem.
Review 51:Complementary room items. Helpfull staff
Review 52:We were comletely happy with our stay no problems at all
Review 53:The owners were very friendly, very helpful. They thought of everything we needed during our stay.
Review 54:Nothing to dislike!
Review 55:We liked everything! Breakfasts are great, evening meal in the Bistro was excellent value. All food sourced locally and you could tell. Do have an evening meal here but ensure you book as the locals have also found out about it so it can get fully booked. No bar as such but there are supplies of local bottled Padstow real ale (excellent by the way), choices of spirits are available, wine also available and those we sampled were excellent value. The owners appear to be constantly looking to improve and enhance your stay in this beautiful area. Our only worry giving it such a good write up is whether we will be able to make a booking in the future! Thanks for a great time.
Review 56:There was no bad experience everything was lovely. The only thing I would say was when I booked the rooms they were advertised at £80 each when my husband paid he was charged £70 for one room and £95 for the other, I didn't realise this until after we had left otherwise I would have queried it. We were only charged altogether £5 extra but we should have been charged what we booked the rooms at.
Review 57:The hospitality of the owners, comfort and amazing breakfast
Review 58:The only thing we did not like was having to leave!
Review 59:The Old Mill House is a gem of a B & B on the outskirts of Padstow run by a very welcoming family with quality hospitality as their goal..... and they achieve it splendidly! From the begining of our 2 night stay til we left they were attentive without being intrusive and their premises are quaint, clean and tastefully decorated.... with nothing too much trouble for our hosts.
Review 60:The Old Millhouse is about 5 minutes' drive from Padstow. It has ample parking available in a public parking area. The Old Millhouse is veryneat, clean and tidy, and serves a wonderful breakfast. Additional meals are available upon request. WiFi service is good, but cell-phone signal is variable. We'd be happy to return!
Review 61:Entrance gate onto a blind corner of the road!
Review 62:Breakfast was lovely. Bee warm and comfortable place. Outside space was very relaxing next to an pieceful watercourse!
Review 63:Warm welcome - delightful accommodation - a great deal of care and thought and hard work by the owners into the refurbishment of the property We were thrilled by our 'accidental' find - superb breakfast . Took our little dog who was also given the best of welcomes!
Review 64:nothing
Review 65:loved the room, so cosy and nicely decorated. great breakfast but the best thing about this b and b was the staff, all that we met went out of there way to help with anything we needed and were very friendly, highly recommended.
Review 66:Crossing the road to get to car park on a bend - but as it's so quiet you can hear if a car is on the way!
Review 67:The family who run the business went out of their way to ensure we had the best stay possible
Review 68:A very well appointed retreat. This family run business offered excellent facilities, comfort and cleanliness. We were made very welcome and breakfast was a treat. Would definitely return and recommend.
Review 69:Wifi didnt work at my room
Review 70:Atmosphere Staff and their attention to every detail Facilities/Comfort Cleanness Delicious breakfast Great music at reception/living room
Review 71:we requested cream tea on arrival but no mention of this when we did arrive and you really need a car in order to get to Padstow.
Review 72:lovely staff, great breakfast, really pretty and comfy B&B.
Review 73:One or two very minor niggles e.g. if you are going to offer steak on your menu, no matter how good it is, you really should have steak knives. Also at breakfast it was a little difficult to track down the marmalade, honey etc. Overall, however, these did not spoil our stay at all.
Review 74:The Old Mill House is very comfortable and well appointed, the food is excellent. The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Henry the puppy was particularly cute...
Review 75:The rooms were a bit cold
Review 76:Lovely, friendly, and extreamly helpful owners. The evening meal was incredible, the cooked breakfasts were beautifully prepared. Big congratulations to the chef! We loved it all, individuality of the rooms! Thank you for a lovely weekend
Review 77:Parking payment requirements in the Village Hall parking lot a little confusing. Would have liked to have known earlier that there was no food service on the Saturday we were there.
Review 78:The staff were most helpful and the resident dog was very friendly! Our dinner was excellent value. The Doom Bar beer was well chilled.
Review 79:Staff were friendly and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Beautifully decorated and full of character, loved the location. Food delicious and fantastic value for money. A definite must!
Review 80:Didn't realise that this was as far away from Padstow harbour, but this was our error, and we could have done more research on the location. It's not far, but not walking distance as we were hoping for.
Review 81:Loved the size of the room, perfect to accommodate the super king bed. Loved the peaceful atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff
Review 82:Sorry I have to put a negative, but had problems with Wi-Fi access, but this was explained in the information guide in our room.
Review 83:Loved the warm welcome of all the staff. Loved the well behaved dogs of the owners. Loved the comfort of the bed. Loved the food in the Bistro. Can't fault our stay, would highly recommend to others.
Review 84:Very welcoming, loved the dogs! Great breakfast. Lovely location, free parking. Warm room and we were able to control the temperature of the radiators which is good as some hotels/b and b's are too hot and then you cant sleep. Fantastic all round. Would recommend!!
Review 85:not really a minus point just coulndt get wifi in some areas but thats just an environment issue not a bad comment
Review 86:everything, very hard to fault, the family running the Mill were the best and so accommodating for everything...
Review 87:Having to come home
Review 88:The host Debbie &ASH WHERE FANTASTIC , great welcome , great food , great room , the whole weekend was made special by the whole family . WE WILL BE BACK
Review 89:Excellent attentive caring staff. Looked after us on a four night anniversary break and made our stay very enjoyable. Great food both breakfast and dinner menu.
Review 90:There wasn't anything I did not like
Review 91:We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The B&B and it surrounds were really lovely and the hosts were very hospitable.
Review 92:Absolutely nothing.
Review 93:Everything about The Old Mill House was great, the facilities, the staff and the breakfast (the best omelette ever!). We wish the new owners every success with their venture. They are certainly off to a good start.
Review 94:Traffic on the one lane bridge is heavy and the parking is across the road.
Review 95:The building is a wonderful structure and the staff was great. The waterwheel and gardens by the stream make it a beautiful setting
Review 96:The house and rooms were perhaps a little busy/cluttered but in some ways that was part of the charm.
Review 97:Our hosts were lovely and made us feel very welcome but were not obtrusive. The food was simple and well cooked and just what we were looking for. Although beside a road the rooms were quiet and after the bustle of London it was a very peaceful place to stay, and close to Padstow.
Review 98:Really liked this place! Lovely atmosphere, comfy rooms, great service & very accommodating of quirky diets. Nice attention to detail & lovely garden space. Good access to eg Tintagel & Padstow & Eden.
Review 99:A charming village setting close to Padstow, with friendly hosts & a relaxed & comfortable atmosphere. The food was plentiful & delicious.
Review 100:Wi fi was hit and miss due to the very thick walls but not an issue for such a lovely place, nice to get away from it!!
Review 101:Stayed for 3 nights, and from the minute we arrived we were made to feel as if we had known the owners for ages! The location was beautiful and the building full of character with the mill wheel being a mesmerising attraction whilst eating a wonderful breakfast. Our room was very comfortable with a lovely window seat to sit in and enjoy the garden. There were lovely additions of mini shampoo, body lotion etc in the lovely en-suite and all beautifully clean and oh so soft towels! Breakfast was a lovely selection to suit everyone's taste with a very filling full Cornish breakfast,or huge omelette,s,gorgeous smoked salmon and eggs or eggs benedict on offer! All of which we tried and loved. Debbie and Ashley have only been there a few months and have put their own stamp on the place and a fabulous job they are doing! Cannot recommend this place more highly for a lovely, welcoming, quiet break! It is a short run into Padstow or a lovely 2 mile walk across fields! There is a nice pub a few minutes up the road for meals and drinks,or stay and join Debbie and Ashley at the accommodation for drinks as they offer a good selection and lovely company! Will definitely return.
Review 102:Nothing that i did not like
Review 103:Super breakfast in the morning , owners took us to Padstow both evenings saving us a taxi ride. room was imaculate will definately stay here again
Review 104:Beautiful location, clean, comfortable and the breakfasts were lovely. New owners were lovely and would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. Couldn't do enough for you,
Review 105:Would have preferred 2 single beds, but that is just our preference because we are tall and have bad knees and backs, so need a bit of room to move around.
Review 106:The professional and helpful welcome. The superb breakfast. The atmosphere of the building - particularly in the dining room.
Review 107:Bed was a little on the small side and the room we had on the front was extremely noisy with passing traffic.
Review 108:Great outside seating area fantastic dogs and a really nice family good breakfast and choice.
Review 109:The bed was uncomfortable but because there have only just taken over they are in the process of making changes and improvements
Review 110:The owners were so friendly very homely nice location
Review 111:Charge of £2 for leaving car in local authority car park opposite
Review 112:The location was excellent, with the most friendly dog in the world (even though I am a non-dog lover) ideal for those of you who enjoy walking up hill!! however you are rewarded at the local establishment. Owner could not do enough for you made you feel as if you were an old friend visiting.
Review 113:Not being able to connect to wifi in our room but understand that it is an old building with thick walls and the signal does not reach all of the bedrooms.
Review 114:The rooms were fantastic.
Review 115:From the moment we arrived we felt so welcome. The staff we really kind and just made our stay very special. The breakfast was amazing, would like to have stayed longer for more.
Review 116:I had beautiful room overlooking garden, though rooms at road side may be a bit noisy as there is a lot of traffic passing through
Review 117:location; staff; comfort; information received beforehand very good and useful
Review 118:Our room was on the roadside which was something we weren't used to. Car headlights shone into room, maybe thicker curtains would help?
Review 119:Facilities and staff are excellent, would recommend this place to anybody.
Review 120:Brekfast was almost cold and the bacon was hard, been left too long in warmer too long. Waitress forgot to bring coffee had to ask for it. Only one milk in bedroom on tray and the vanity mirror light was not working.
Review 121:Soft comfortable bed.Friendly staff
Review 122:We chose the Old Mill for convenience to Padstow. I thought the property was very attractive and well maintained. The owners very friendly and helpful. The evening meals, although a limited menu, were tasty, and reasonably priced, and we couldn't resist the cream teas in the garden. Hope to go back and walk the coastal footpath into Padstow. Loved our room with a working water wheel just outside.
Review 123:Location and outdoor garden area Clean Cosy Ignore all reviews from pre July as this place is a great place to stay for just one night or base your holiday around for Longer
